BUENA Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, are club was unable to participate in many events. However, there were two events we were able to take part in; one of these events was the February DCM. Our club celebrated and mourned the last DCM of the term with our fellow Key Clubbers, participating in ice breakers and creating cards for kids. Proudly, our club won Kiwanis Advisor, Club, and Advisor of the month. The next and final event our club participated in was the Fundraising Coordinator and Member Recognition Chair elections. There were many suitable candidates for these roles, but the members chose Audrey Beaver as the Fundraising Coordinator and Sophia Nacu as the Membership Recognition Chair. Our group of seven officers has promised to make this term to be successful and delightful for our Submitted by Zoey Brar-Avelar members.

CHANNEL ISLANDS Unable to meet face to face for a proper meeting on Tuesday, April 7 we held our second meeting over google meet. With this meeting, we discussed ways we could help out those who are combating the virus at the front lines. With the help of our club advisor, we came up with ways to show our appreciation to medical frontliners through handwritten letters and videos expressing our Submitted by Khalia Jackson gratitude.

OXNARD Unfortunately, our 2019-2020 term was cut short due the coronavirus and DCON was canceled. However, we can’t wait for the next term and we are super excited to show off what O-Town has to offer. For the month of March, we had officer elections for the 2020-2021 term, and they went by smooth. HUGE CONGRATS to our new cabinet! Submitted by Jasmine Andres

PACIFICA Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Pacifica High School’s Key Club Cabinet is currently communicating with each other in order to stay in touch and remain updated with future events through calls and on social media. We hope that everyone is safe during this quarantine, along with practicing the use of social distancing. Although we are not able to see each other at school or such related events, there is always a way to keep ourselves occupied! With this in mind, our new cabinet is planning to have an upcoming cabinet bonding day by playing Roblox! In addition to this, our cabinet is arranging future calls through Facetime to catch up on any upcoming information. Even if we are experiencing challenging times throughout this past month, we know that we will all get through this together. We hope that everyone is safe and healthy! Submitted by Aliyah Cantada

RIO MESA Rio Mesa High School Key Club has selected the new cabinets for this term in the division. President - Estrella Olguin Vice President - Pamela Nera Secretary - Lesly Hurtado Treasure - Ashley Duong Editor - Andy Le As of right now, we really have not touched in with service events or fundraisers due to the virus, but we are looking forward to this term to make our club a successful year. Submitted by Andy Le

SANTA PAULA On March 7th, our members volunteered at our local Hospice. We have been building strong connections with our local Hospice and they have provided a plethora of events throughout the year. Also, our members had cut out butterfly designs for the first ever Santa Paula Butterfly event but due to our global circumstances it has been Submitted by cancelled. Carolina Martinez

VENTURA In March we had two meetings: one board and one general. At both meetings the primary focus was the festival of talent: an event that the majority of the club took part in. We also planned on doing art projects with the special needs kids and making blankets for a children’s hospital, but out plans had to be cancelled due to the Submitted by quarantine. Jason Hepfer

Are you doing your part in flattening the curve? During this wide world pandemic, social distancing is the new norm, and if you’re anything like me, you might feel bored 24/7. However, these “stay at home” efforts are not done in vain. Social distancing and minimizing contact is all done to ensure our hospitals are able to treat people in a controlled manner, in other words, flattening the curve. Although you and I may be relaxing at home, medical frontliners and essential workers are doing everything they can to keep our society afloat. Here are just a few ways you can reach out to your community from the comforts of your home.

Stay appreciative. HealthCare frontliners and essential workers risk their lives everyday combating the virus. They, too, need to be reminded of how thankful we are of them. Send digital letters, speak out on social media, or simply say thank you to the family around you. Let them know they are loved.

Stay informed. At times like these, misinformation is incredibly harmful to each and everyone of us. Make sure any info you learn is from a credible source. Don’t listen to any Facebook Mom posts. Misinformation causes paranoia. Advocate for safe and effective ways for protecting yourself against the virus. Work smart, not out of fear.

Stay at home. Above all, staying home and minimizing contact with others secures our safety of ourselves and our local community. Remember, the spread of the virus is through direct contact. If we all do our best to social distance, we are preventing the virus from spreading any further. If we ever want to get out of quarantine, we must do our part and take this seriously now.

WHAT IS IT? In 2010, Kiwanis International and UNICEF joined forces to help eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) worldwide through the Eliminate Project, with the goal in mind being to seek the end of MNT. It will also pave the way for other life necessities, including, but not limited to: clean water, nutrition and other vaccines.

WHO DOES IT HELP? According to the World Health Organization (WHO), an estimated summation of 787,000 newborns have died as a result of MNT in 1988, and every 17 minutes, a newborn passes away from MNT. Thus, the Eliminate Project was created with the intention to save millions of mothers and newborns all over the globe!

Through The Eliminate Project and Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, the Kiwanis Family is changing the world. To date, we have helped save and protect lives by eliminating maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) in 27 countries.

Stack up your loose change in a piggy bank, water bottle, cardboard box, or anything else you may have! Every $1.80 you donate will save a child’s life, so make sure you count up those pennies and let us know how many lives you’ve saved! Send your club president pictures for proof. Stay tuned for more information about Eliminate Week!
