Aloha Arctic Foxes! Can you BEElieve that it’s the start of a new term? Or that it’s even almost summer break? Wow time has gone fast, so has this past term! However, before break starts, make sure to rack up those memories with the seniors in your club because it’s probably the last time you’ll see them! Well, for a little bit that is. First, I’d like to say that I am glad to be serving such a wonderful division for all of my four years in Key Club! I cannot wait to start serving along side all of you BEEautiful people and make a ton of memories once again and for the last time as my graduation year is soon to come about. As my school year is coming to an end , I am cramming all my studies and make all the memories I can with all the seniors that I am acquainted with! Once summer starts, I’ll be at home most of the time, if not catch me at the beach with my friends or traveling abroad! Here and there you can catch me at a service event as well. Utilize this summer and all the time you have to have fun and give back to your community as well! There are countless amount of service events to do and endless amount of ways to serve! Don’t forget to document your service and send them in! Feel free to contact me throughout the term with any questions, comments, or concerns! Have an amazing and joyful summer and don’t for get keep being foxy! :)

Serving with pride,

Noah Tyler Ratley News Editor, 2014-18 3

On April 23rd, 2017, Oxnard High School Key Club volunteered at Aut2Run, a 3k run for autism awareness. Our members who went signed up to cheer the runners on. They made a poster and assisted the organization with whatever they needed from handing out water to assisting with setup and cleanup. Submitted by: Austin Yen Oxnard High Club Editor

PHS Key Club members continued to volunteer at another cleanup event just two days later on March 20th, 2017. This event was a collaboration with other Key Club members from OHS, CIHS, and RMHS. The overcast weather did not hold them back for they aided the Silver Strand beach immensely with care. Laughter and fun smiles filled the site as a remarkable amount of harmful pieces of trash were collected. The beach cleanup ended with a plentiful pile of garbage thanks to the help of everyone who showed up.

A future volunteering chance for the D42 West Key Clubbers will be the California Strawberry Festival. This is a two day event held from May 20th to May 21st, 2017. The Key Club members from PHS volunteers at the contest booth every year in which they have fun with both kids and adults. Despite the fact that things do get messy with the signature pie eating and pie throwing contests, everyone has always had a blast. Every year has been an awesome turnout and we hope the same this year! PHS Key Club members of D42 West took a wonderful opportunity in volunteering at the Ventura River Cleanup on Marth 18th, 2017. Although the short amount of members that showed up, a great deal of trash was still cleared out and the river was close to spotless. Our members had plenty of fun in improving the environment and went home satisfied. Submitted by: Ella Borcena Pacifica High Club Editor 13

On April 7-9, my VP and I attended District Convention 2017 in Anaheim, CA. I’d be lying if I were to say it wasn’t one of the biggest opportunities I’ve done. DCON honestly opened both of our eyes, mine a little more. We learned so much over that weekend with all the sessions and workshops we attended. I honestly cannot wait to apply everything we have learned to next year! We met so many people and it honestly made me so happy. Our roommates were the absolute best; many friendships were made then. DCON had such an awesome vibe from everyone, we all love serving our communities and it’s such a great thing. Also, when we had general sessions, they showed how much money we had raised as a division as well as schools; I was so shocked and impressed. I really hope I can attend District Convention 2018 as well as many of our members! On April 22, our club helped out at the Earth Day beach cleanup at Marina Park. This event was just a good way to give back to our Earth, which was fun. At the event, we all kind of just got into little groups and went around finding as much trash as we could. Sometimes it’s even fun if you put a little competition in it. Beach cleanups are always a good time, especially when older people come up to us and thank us for what we’re doing to help out our community, and especially the Earth, one step at a time. Not so many of our members came out but next year we’ll strive for a better turn out! On April 15, we had a wildlife restoration volunteer event available for our club. We had a good outcome, which was great. The restoration project is one of my favorites we do monthly. What you do is basically just get together with a bunch of other people and pull ice plants from the ground. It may sound boring, but it’s not, because you’re helping out your community and local ponds. It’s especially fun when you have many hands to work all the ice plants and plant a bunch of flowers and native plants. Our goal for the club is to help out as much as we can each month and just have fun while volunteering. Submitted by: Delilah Juarez Rio Mesa High Club Editor 14

Students from different high schools participated at the Saturday April DCM. Upon the student’s arrival, they were tasked to make up group dance moves. Teams compete against one another until there was one team left standing. Lieutenant Governor Roselyn announced the upcoming events and encouraged members to sign up for the 2017-18 Division Leadership Team application. The Kiwanis DCM was held at the Ventura ARC in Ventura, CA. Amongst the student’s arrival, they were separated and assigned to different table groups. Once students and Kiwanis members got to know one another, they competed amongst the other table groups to create group names, chants, and an outfit for their table group leader. Once the outfit was created, group leaders had to walk down an imaginary runway and show the room their new outfit. As school comes to an end, Many Meals will continue throughout the summer. Club members prepare home cooked meals for the community members in need. These meals are created in an assembly line to fasten the pace of making meals because 60-80 people from Santa Paula wait patiently outside until they are given their meals.
