Update

Aloha Arctic Foxes! I hope all of your are enjoying the summer sun and hanging out at the beach! I know many of you are having a swell time sleeping in and demolishing your sleep schedule, but then again, it’s summer time. Are you catching up on any of your favorite shows? I know I am! I’m just waiting for one of my shows to start their new season, The Last Ship season 4! Sounds boring, I know, oh whale. :P So what’s the latest you’ve slept? Woken up? Most likely after midnight and way past noon for most of you. For me, probably around 2 am and 1 pm. It’s summer though, just take a whole day’s nap why don’t you, but don’t sleep in on the amazing volunteer opportunities! Remember, we’re a year-long club. That means we serve even on break! Of course you need some rest, so don’t pile your plate with many things. I hope all of you are fired up for the last moments of summer just like the weather! Trust me, 80 degrees to us is like 100 degrees in Las Vegas, props to the Nevada Key Clubbers. I hope to see all of you at service projects! Until next cool! :)

On April 23rd, 2017 Oxnard High school Key Club volunteered at Aut2run, a 3K for Autism awareness. Our members who went signed up to cheer the runners on. They made a poster and assisted the organization with whatever they needed from handing out water to assisting with set up and clean up. On 6/2, we sold spam musubi for $2 and $3 with egg. That day is when the yearbooks are distributed to the people who bought them. We know that many people will be gathered at the ASB room so we chose that location for more customers. It was a success but I hope that more members can be involved in sales like this. On 5/28, we held a beach cleanup at Oxnard Beach Park. Unlike our previous beach cleanups, we also invited some people from CSF (California Scholarship Federation) to join us. Although beach cleanups may sound boring to some people, but it is actually a fun activity and also be part in making the environment in our community better. Fun fact: During the few hours of collecting trash, we found many unique items including a mannequin! On 5/27, we sold root beer floats for $2 on the day we had our senor goodbye rally. Many people were interested because it is quite uncommon in our campus. It was another success and we sold out multiple cups of root beer floats. At the end, we made a total of $90 which can cover our bus fees to go to Fall Rally, an annual six flags trip. Submitted by: Austin Yen Oxnard High Club Editor 10

This past month we’ve had about five volunteering opportunities which are mentioned at every meeting after reciting the Key Club pledge. Although there were only three club meetings for the month of May (due to AP testing), many members still showed up wholeheartedly ready to sign up for volunteer events. Some testimonials that are referable to are Nathaniel Tagulao and Kacie Galang. Overall, the Key Club of Pacifica High School is doing everything expected and still thriving for the best!! On May 13, 2017 we volunteered at the Cornucopia garden in Ventura. There were about 25 people that went total. We helped from 9am-11am. We were asked to clear an area of weeds. After that was done a few people had to go shovel mold from piles of wood into barrels. The barrels were taken to the area we cleared and the mold was spread across the area to fertilize it. It was a tiring two hours be everyone had a lot of fun doing the work. It’s a very beautiful garden and it was a great experience helping out the community in that way and we want to do more events there when we get the opportunity. On June 4, 2017 there was a Love Run marathon in Westlake Village that our club volunteered at. Seven of us volunteered from 6am-10am. We were placed at different stations throughout the rout that the runners were running through. We filled up cups of water and handed it to any person that wanted it as they ran by. We really enjoyed this event because even though it was early, it was a good cause to help out with. On May 20, 2017 our club volunteered in Ventura at the Wildlife pongs. A good amount of people went. The goal for this restoration project is to take out all the ice plants that are blocking pathways around the pond and to plant more native plants around that area. This project is one of the clubs favorite many people enjoy doing this work and having a good time. This event is mostly every month and people usually help for 3-4 hours. It’s important for people to enjoy volunteering because you are making a change in the community even if at first it doesn't seem like it. Submitted by: Delilah Juarez Rio Mesa High Club Editor

On May 13th, all of the Santa Paula High School Key Club former officers, including some of the newer officers, attended the Division 42 West banquet and reported that they all had a blast. The food served were delicious Mexican tacos that all officers were delighted to eat. There was also a talent show at the banquet that the officers were really excited to watch. The new DLT members, Regina Hernandez and Valeria Medrano, were recognized. The Santa Paula High School Key Club was awarded the “Outstanding Service Award” in which all the officers were hyped to receive. On May 23rd, the Santa Paula High School’s Key Club had their banquet during lunch. Many Key Club seniors received their beautiful sashes for graduation while the juniors, sophomores, and freshmen received certificates with the amount of hours they got the 2016-17 school year. Along with the handing out of sashes and certificates, many people brought food varying from KFC to chocolate chip cookies, while we supplied the banquet with Domino's Pizza. It was a great time seeing the senior members of the club experiencing their last banquet in Key Club and reminiscing on the great memories they created with several other Key Club members. On May 7th, 6 of the Santa Paula High School Key Club officers attended the May DCM on a beautiful day in Oxnard. Firstly, the members who went to the DCM volunteered in icebreakers and had lots of laughs with other members from different schools. Several officers donated to a cause, which was to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus, a prominent issue in today’s world. Submitted by: Valeria Medrano Santa Paula High Club Editor
