STAY KEY-NNECTED

hiii arctic foxes <3 Happy July everyone! Personally, this is my favorite summer month and I hope nothing but good things come to all of you. Once again, thank you to my editors who’ve worked hard to get in those articles and submissions early/on time. I would also like to thank everyone who’s been interviewed for the spreads you are about to read! It means the world to me when I have helping hands on this dear newsletter. We have a lot of service opportunities coming up, including our Recycling Drive, so keep an eye out for that. I can’t wait to see all of your faces soon!

Serving with love,

Division 42 West Division News Editor

WHAT’S POPPIN’, 42 WEST! I am glad to say that our division has greatly adjusted to this pandemic, and we are continuing to serve our communities from home. As quarantine continues, I encourage you all to continue to practice safe social distancing and at least wear a mask. If we want to have any in-person events anytime soon, we need to do our part in flattening this curve! I hope you are all staying safe and treating yourselves with care. Feel free to try to check off everything on this month’s Summer Bucket List! Personally, I love bike riding and I highly encourage you all go on a ride :D . Even though school is over, it doesn’t mean we are going to stop serving, so please keep in touch with your club officers to see what they have planned! I hope to see you all at our next DCM and stay ICY ! With an ICY passion for service,

Division 42 West Lieutenant Governor

Name: Enoch Ashong School: Channel Islands Grade: Incoming Senior Star Sign: Gemini My favorite thing about summer is getting to hang out with my friends during band camp. I absolutely adore going to band camp during the summer and meeting new friends and learning songs to play. My plans for this summer is hopefully to go to band camp again, and possibly try something new such as dance. I’m also planning on doing more community service opportunities. I would love to go on a trip to Ghana, Africa with my family and possibly even invite some of my closest friends so we can enjoy our time together there.

Name: Hugo Alfaro School: Buena Grade: Incoming Senior Star Sign: Scorpio My favorite thing about summer is the nice warm weather and the longer days. I also like the extra free time that it gives. I plan on going out to run more and to get ready for the fall sport season. If quarantine wasn’t stopping me, I would like to go out and hang out with my friends and be able to do sports again.

Name: Jasmine Andres School: Oxnard Grade: Incoming Senior Star Sign: Pisces My favorite thing about summer is going to the beach or pool and getting that nice fresh tan. I honestly just love the freedom and memories. My plans for this summer is to make the most out of it because it is the last summer in high school before I graduate. I’m going to say YOLO to everything. If quarantine wasn’t stopping me I would like to take my friends’ portraits because I want to get more into that type of photography and learn more about film photography. You never know if there will be a tomorrow.

Name: Carlos Oregel School: Oxnard Grade: Incoming Junior Star Sign: Aquarius My favorite thing about summer is that I don’t have to attend school and I have a lot of free time to hangout with friends and family. My plans for this summer are to workout and hangout with my pets and family since I can’t really go out and hangout with friends due to the pandemic. If quarantine wasn’t stopping me, I would like to go out and hangout with my friends. Also, I would like to go hiking, kayaking, and shopping.

For the month of June, our members participated in four major events--our first virtual club meeting, Free Rice, Charity Miles, and Chalk Around The Block. There were fourteen members in attendance, along with special guests from Ventura College’s Circle K Founder, Sopheak Suy, and Santa Paula High School’s Key Club President, Andrea Arana. Our club discussed service events, fundraisers, and mascot changes. Submitted by Breana Chhay

On Saturday May 30th 2020, Channel Island Key Club hosted a donation drive for the Lighthouse Charity for Women and Children. CIHS KEY Club officers collected the donations dropped off at the nearby church and brought them to the Lighthouse charity center. CIHS Key Club cabinet collected a plethora of donations for the Lighthouse Charity. Bags filled with canned foods and health products were brought to the charity and given to those in need of such supplies. Submitted by Khalia Jackson

What up D42W! During the month of June, O-TOWNs key club has been participating in fundraising for UNICEF and March of Dimes through Charity Miles. On top of that, we fundraised for PTP with goodie bags for the Class of 2020 filled with popcorn, candy, and chocolate-covered pretzels. A few of us got together to make the goodies bags which was really nice and fun! We will be participating in the Divisions Service Week on June 22 - June 26 and we are truly excited! We've also been participating in our service project, Love For The Elderly, showing them some love during these tough times by writing letters to them. Let's make the most out of this term and service as much as we can! Submitted by Jasmine Andres

Our school's home club was able to hold our first virtual meeting. We had 20 attendees, including new members interested in joining us for the new term. During our meeting, we were able to inform our club on new division updates and service projects. Service projects such as Couch Coins and Charity Miles were included to allow our members to partake in earning service hours. We also included an icebreaker to start off the meeting, where members were able to participate by typing out their mood. Overall, our first virtual meeting was successful. This past month we are still planning out activities and meetings with our club but as of right now, we have nothing in store yet. Submitted by Andy Le

SPHS Key Club had its first club general meeting on zoom on June 9th. We've been taking part in the division service projects for the month, along with Couch Coins. Our club is also using the website Free Rice as a way for members to get hours. We are excited to participate in the division service week. The officers will also be having a board meeting to plan for a general meeting on zoom for July. Submitted by Andrea Arana

Ventura’s club earned a total of 12 hours through the Charity Miles event so far. We raised about $14 for UNICEF by running, biking, and walking a total of 81 miles. Our members are excited to participate in more events for service week. Submitted by Jason Hepfer
