Hiya Butterflies! I can’t believe summer is going by so fast, I hope everyone gets to take the chance to take breaks and spend time with loved ones. I’ve never been a fan of the heat, but so far summer’s been treating me well. I’ve been staying productive with summer school and service hours. In the coming month, I hope to stay on track to finish any summer courses, specially this one film course that has been testing me. Good luck to anyone in summer school or dual enrollment, the effort will pay off! ♡

Hey hey Butterflies! It’s crazy to think that summer is flying by and we are already entering August! We’re nearing the second half of 2021, which means we are moving forward with service! How has your summer been? Mine has consisted of a ton of running at cross country practices, and of course the naps afterward. It has been great staying in shape (even in this unbearable heat) and seeing my teammates. I hope you’re all staying productive throughout, while still taking time to yourself to really enjoy the summer! Finish summer school off if you’re taking it, you got this! See you next time!

DIVISION GOALS

C L U B

The Club of the Month is Ventura. Ventura has done a great job at staying active and hosting events and Ventura has also shown great progress with their member recruitment.Their officers are doing a great job keeping up with their submissions! With their secretary turning in submissions early, along with their editor working on submitting articles and visuals early, they really are on top of their stuff! We cannot wait to see our Cougars in action this term and know they will do amazing.

M E M B E R

The Member of the Month is Eduardo Cintora of Pacifica!. Eduardo was chosen and nominated because he has been a very dedicated and consistent member. He has accumulated a great amount of hours through charity miles and Eduardo is a person who goes out of his way to encourage and invite people to check out key club. This is remarkable for him to do so as a member because sometimes people will listen more to the members involved in the club. It will be an amazing term having Eduardo by our side!

O F F I C E R

The Officer of the Month is Aylin Fernandez of Channel Islands! Aylin as a secretary has done an amazing job of keeping track of service hours and filling out MRFs and submitting on time. She is a great communicator and because of this she is able to communicate with members regarding their hours and such. With accurate and on-time MRF submissions, Aylin has exceeded expectations and truly fulfills the duties of an outstanding secretary. Keep it up, Aylin!

The Faculty Advisor of the Month is Tiffany Herbst of Santa Paula! Mrs. Herbst has done her best to familiarize herself with the key club organization and has been a great facilitator in all meetings. She has contributed with great input and always shares her suggestions and questions. She was also present helping to facilitate OTC. She really goes above and beyond as Faculty Advisor and ensures all her key clubbers are in great hands and good-standing. We cannot thank you enough for all you do, Mrs. Herbst!

K I W A N I S

The Kiwanis Advisor of the Month is Tina Martinez of oxnard Kiwanis! Tina has been a great Kiwanis Advisor, she helped Pacifica organize a food drive service project and she has always been an active advisor who has been very helpful with the Oxnard Kiwanis. Our key clubbers are always able to turn to her for any help on service projects and for keeping us up with our Kiwanis in general. Her work is one that could never go unnoticed and we truly are grateful to call her part of our Kiwanis family!

D L T

Christabelle Canonizado is being recognized as our Division Leadership Team Officer of the month! The very newsletter you’re reading right now would not be possible without her hard work! She is constantly working on making sure our newsletters are aesthetically pleasing and enjoyable to ead. She embodies the hard work expected of a DLT officer and Division 42 West is more than lucky to call her our News Editor. This is just the start of our newsletter journey and know they will only get better throughout the term, knowing we have the wonderful Christabelle on our team!

Hey butterflies! Our first DCM of the summer was a success! We loved meeting new friends and DCMs are a great way to meet other members from our division. The new DLT was introduced with Daniella Viorato as our LTG! Our very own Co-President and previous president Breana Chhay is on the DLT as well. She will be serving as our division treasurer for the next term. We know she’ll put in lots of hard work and make Buena proud! Along with our June DCM, we also had our June division service week. Each day of the week had a new service project focus including projects like playing online quizzes, painting rocks, and writing thank you cards! All projects are tasks that every member can participate in to earn hours while still being in the comfort of home to escape the heat. We are looking forward to this month’s activities and remember to get out and serve your community!

June DCM was one of the most memorable moments of this year! We are so happy to have two amazing members and a person from our officer cabinet representing CIHS. Members from our club applied for a position to become a part of the division DLT team. Three members from our club, Zaide Pasion, Ashley Vargas, and Ethan Villanueva were selected to become a part of the 2021-2022 DLT team. We are thrilled to have these three incredible members representing Channel Islands Key Club. We have seen the passion they have for Key Club and are looking forward to what they can do to make the D42W become a more prosperous division. Very excited for what will come from our division!

For July, Oxnard Key Club had another beach cleanup event at Oxnard Beach Park on the 24th. Though it had been only a month since our last cleanup at this same location, we found more trash that we missed the first time or had washed up throughout the month. With the weather getting hotter, it's not surprising that more people are going to the beach -- which makes the responsibility of cleaning up even more important. In addition to this, our club has reached over 16,000 miles on Charity Miles! A big thank you to those who regularly contribute their traveled miles to the app!

Pacifica has started the new term for the 2021-22 school year with a bang as President Hazel Acosta and Vice President Aliyah Cantada take on the spotlight! With the new term, we held our first general meeting on June 7 after school and were able to have 16 members attend. The meeting started off with the icebreaker, Doodle!, where we had to guess each other’s drawings. On the second week of July our club joined Oxnard Kiwanis is food boxes distribution. We had a lot of fun and worked until 5pm. We also attend the joint OTC with the rest of Region 10 and also attended the DCM that was in the OTC.

For the month of June, Santa Paula Key Club continued service projects like charity miles and free rice. The last June event was a service project for the community in which key club members served at an event by serving food, and attending guests. As of now, Key Club members have just been attending DCM’s and staying up to date with all division service projects.

For the month of June, the club of VHS completed club week. Various activities included beach cleanups, chalk messages, and rock painting. with school coming into the end, this was the first project with our Co-Presidents Brooke Roberts and Ella Strong. Both worked a team by giving us constant reminders to participate in various activities. Even with the rough transition, both have been organized and passionate about Key Club and this work has been demonstrated throughout the activities they had planned for service week. Reminders were set almost daily to ensure our club was focused on deadlines. The first week of Key Club was a success!

Kiwanis of Camarillo continues to remain active as we head into in-person service projects! They started off with a bang at the kidSTREAM work day in July, where they helped renovate and get a children’s museum started up in Camarillo. Our volunteers completed various tasks throughout this hardworking day, which included making benches, fixing up some shelving, cleaning blinds, cleaning up carpet, and loads more! Our Kiwanians and Kiwins put in a great deal of work to get this museum ready for the future. Volunteers were able to work hard while still maintaining a fun and spirited attitude during their breaks between restocking and repackaging items. What an amazing job that our Kiwanis of Camarillo completed, we know the museum will look great!
