Kiwanis Citrus Fest Santa Paula Key Club members were extremely delighted this month because this past July was the annual Kiwanis Citrus Festival. The Kiwanis Festival is popular in Santa Paula bringing carnival games, rides, and concerts to the local citizens. Throughout the three day festival, Key Club members helped at the ticket booth and greeted customers with a smile as they handed their tickets. Afterwards, we got to enjoy the games and even scored free popcorn. It was also a great opportunity to meet the new Santa Paula Kiwanis president, Carol! It is half way through summer break and Santa Paula Key Club is still going strong. Each Wednesday, Key Club members give time from their summer vacation to continue helping at Many Meals. During that time, Key Club members prepare hot meal and bag groceries to hand out to the homeless. Afterwards, Key Club members socialize with the homeless and the other dedicated volunteers who have been there for years. All members feel blessed to participate and help out their community. We recognize that there is an increasingly high rate of homeless people in Santa Paula and Key Club members are ready to help in any way possible. Many Meals definitely makes their summer productive and special. Article submitted by: Mireille Vargas, Santa Paula HS Vice President

Santa Paula Key Club Member Speak Out Against Power Plant

Recently there has been news about the proposed power plant in Oxnard, making it the fourth power plant in the city. What most people don’t know is that a power plant has also been proposed in Santa Paula earlier this year. Santa Paula Key Club members, knowing that these energy company are targeting low-income minority, helped rally Santa Paula citizens to appear at the second hearing regarding the power plant. The one planned in June was cancelled due to a lack of translators, and this time around the word had spread even more. So on July 28th, Key Club members rallied at the community center and assisted over five hundred citizens during the hearing. Once the hearing began, many of the attendees spoke out against the power plant including Santa Paula Key Club secretary Larry Renteria. He spoke passionately about the air pollutants that the proposed power plants would bring to the younger generation. With an outcome of over five hundred citizens, the hearing about the power plant was a success for Santa Paula’s Key Club. Article submitted by: Mireille Vargas, Santa Paula HS Vice President

Hello16Arctic Foxes! Why hello there! I thought you were studying up for that first AP exam? Oh well, at least you learned something. I hope you all enjoyed the first days of school, like a few of us. I know recovering from an exciting break is hard but this is reality and later or not we will get hit by a truck load of exams, tests, notes, homework, etc. I know that sadly, this may be the end of some people’s all-nighters, watching anime, playing Pokémon GO, skipping curfew, diving into the pool like summer olympians, or just relaxing in the summer weather but, just remember the amazing things you’ve accomplished over this break! Let’s continue doing those stuff while in school! Get your club to volunteer at the local elementary school after school activities or even at a local homeless shelter! Show the community that even though we may not have a lot of free time, we’re willing to spare those little moments to help out the community! Now, for those that is starting school, or already started, be sure to encourage other classmates to join Key Club! If you have a club rush or a club day, be sure to advertise! A club with lots of people means a club with lots of potential! Don’t forget to share your first meeting with us and don’t forget to send a photo as well! We’d love to hear about it and see all of your BEEautiful smiling faces! I wish you all the best of luck this school year as I know you all will do wonderful! Well, that’s it for now and as I always say, until next time, stay foxy! Chilling In Service, Noah Tyler T. Ratley Division News Editor, 2016-17 16
