Service Recap CHECK YOUR SEAT IN THE HEAT | Liberty “The Liberty officers attended the Check Your Seat in the Heat event on July 11. It was held inside Smiths at Green Valley Parkway from 9 A.M. to 1 P.M. Our Kiwanis advisor, his wife, and another Kiwanis member also attended and aided us. We worked on spreading our ribbons out on the table to make it look presentable and we grabbed some ourselves. The first hour was slow and the Kiwanis member gave us an idea to split ourselves up so we could cover both doors on our side. Mrs. Dodge and him covered the exit while Lexie and I covered the entrance. This helped us give more ribbons out. Many people didn’t accept, but an equal amount accepted as well. It was sad that people didn’t want to take a second just to hear us out and grab a ribbon, but the people that did take it made us feel even better. It was also nice to see people interacting with us. With our hard work and effort, we were able to hand out all the ribbons and we ended thirty minutes earlier than the deadline.”

Liberty faculty advisor, Ms. Dodge, hands out a “Check Your Seat in the Heat” ribbon to an Albertson’s customer.

KIWANIS FIREWORKS | SECTA

SECTA Secretary, Nicole Villanueva, trying to advertise the selling of fireworks.

"On June 30th, Nicole and I had the pleasure to volunteer with the Kiwanis Club of the Las Vegas Strip at their Kiwanis Fireworks Booth Fundraiser. This was Nicole’s first time volunteering but it was my second time. This time it was slightly different since we came earlier in the day and on the first day. We helped set up the booth by stapling all the tags on the tables, organizing the fireworks by price, and setting them up for display. We met members from different clubs such as Clark, WCTA, and Centennial. It was really fun getting to know people from our sister division and working with them. We learned a lot of things from them and we developed work skills from the entire experience. We learned how to use a cash register, work with customers, and working efficiently. Fortunately, I made the first sale of the day, in which I sold about $37 worth of stuff to a family who was very patient with me.”

- Terrie Truong, SECTA Vice President
