A Message from the Editor Hello, Pandas! I hope all of you are making the most of the final days of your summer and are getting ready to start the new school year! Here is this month’s edition of The Panda Roar, and I hope you enjoy! - Ky Guerrero, DNE

Service Recap COMIC CON | Valley ! “I feel that this event is very interesting, you get to see different people dressed up, and it’s a really fun and different experience. Most importantly you get to learn different perspectives and learn about how people like and choose to express themselves. Overall, I was really excited about this event, because on top of the service, I was able to meet one of my favorite actors. Being next to him in his presence was very fun and different. I can’t wait to serve at this event next year.” - Jacqueline Vargas, Valley

BEST BUDDIES AT FIRST FRIDAY | Valley

“On Friday, June 3rd, 2015, Valley Key Club volunteered at First Friday to help the non-profit organization Best Buddies with their tent that they had there. Best Buddies main goal is to create opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. They pair their volunteers with a buddy with a disability to allow them to not only become a mentor to them, but a friend that will always be there. They also work a lot with Opportunity Village and the many exciting things they do there as well. Lastly, they have many fundraisers such as a run that will be taken place in September. ! When I arrived at the event, I was greeted by the amazing coordinator who's smile gave us all volunteers a boost of positivity. We immediately got to work by organizing the tables at the tent, by putting down the table cloths and sorting through the t-shirt sizes and putting them in order on one of the tables. More volunteers filed in as we went through the t-shirts, and by the time we were done with this task, everybody had arrived. We were taught a little bit about Best Buddies and the amazing things they do, so that we would be able to teach the guests about the organization. After this, some of us were given signs to walk around the area with, to tell the guests and the various artists about Best Buddies and to stop at the tent for more information. At the tent, there was a basket hoop game where if somebody was able to shoot in the basket within three tries, they would win a pair of sunglasses. This idea attracted a lot of people, which gave us a lot more guests to the booth. There were also sign-up sheets where people were able to apply to become a volunteer of Best Buddies and to sign up for the race in September. Lastly, some of us helped out with picking up the First Friday area by emptying the trash cans and recycling bins when they got full and putting new trash bags in them. My favorite part of the event was running into a lot of old friends and getting to have the opportunity to tell them about the amazing organization I was volunteering for. This experience was absolutely magical! ! By the end of the event, I felt as though a lot had been accomplished, and we were able to inform not only the guests, but ourselves about a great organization as well. I learned so much about leadership, selflessness, and drive, and how all of these things can come together to create more goodness and positivity in this world. I truly had a fantastic time, and I hope that one day i will be able to volunteer for Best Buddies again.

- Victoria Patterson, Valley

July Joint DCM “The July DCM was not only informational, but it was fun-packed too! We got to hear about what the other clubs have been doing to keep active, and shared our activities as well. Furthermore, awards for Member of the Month were given out, and our very own Hannah DeLuna was picked! Afterwards, everyone got to participate in a water balloon fight! I underestimated just how many water balloons there were. There was A LOT! In the end, everyone had the time of their lives, It certainly was the most fun DCM I have attended thus far. - Kelsey Neill, Liberty

AuGust joint DcM “I thought that this DCM was nothing like any other DCM. It was great to see Key Clubbers from other divisions right before the new school year. The August DCM was very informative with not only business regarding Key Club, but also with the presentation about time management that was included. At the end, there were different skits performed by the LTGs that included possible situations that can occur in any Key Club. I feel like I was able to use a lot of the information I learned from the August DCM to better myself as a club officer in order to benefit the club I serve. - Rosie Dumo, Coronado
