Service Recap KEY CLUB SOCIAL | Liberty, Valley, and Coronado !
“On August 15, Liberty, Coronado, and Valley held a joint social service at Sunset Park from 7:45 AM to noon. Due to the early start, we had a breakfast potluck and after that, we held a water balloon fight. Unlike the July DCM, we had less balloons to fight with, but it was still just as fun. Those few minutes of splashing water were a relief in the heat. Once our fight was over, we rested for awhile and ate. After that brief intermission, a worker from the park explained to us what we were going to do and then we got separated into groups. Most of the Liberty board was in the painting group, but our bulletin editor was in the landscaping group. Our task was to paint the marked yellow curbs from the parking lot all the way to the back parking lot. It was really fun to paint but the heat made it less enjoyable. Despite the daunting heat, we finished our task in an hour and a half due to the combined efforts of every member. Once we were done, we went back to our tables and rejoiced in the refreshing shade. It was about ten when I left so I wasn’t able to participate in the trash picking competition with everyone else, but I heard it was fun. This joint social was a great way to spend the last few days of summer and I hope to do another one again.”

FLAG CUTTING | SECTA “Over the course of three days (starting September 5th), I got together with a local CCSD teacher and helped her cut flags for Foothills High School. When I first accepted the task, I had imagined that I would be cutting tiny flags. However, when I arrived, I was quick to realize that the job was on a grander scale than I had originally imagined. Using a hot knife, a tool I had never even heard of until that day, I was to help hold down, fold, and count flags, as the teacher did the tedious task of cutting 600 flags; some, spreading over 7 feet wide! If that wasn’t bad, we were expected to get at least 200 done by that Monday! Though the task seemed like a bad remake of Mission Impossible considering there was only two hot knifes which constantly had to be cleaned in between cuts, we took the daunting task by working nonstop on the flags. Over the course of three days, and with an aesthetically pleasing chart keeping us motivated, we somehow managed to cut, fold, and bag approximately 550 flags that were to be sewn together to make one big flag. The missing 50 was only because we ran out of fabric. Regardless of how tedious and time consuming it was, helping to cut these flags felt very rewarding because I got to help out a stressed teacher and ensure her that the task wasn’t impossible.”
- Danika Manguiat, SECTA
September DCM “On Wednesday, September 16th from 5pm-6pm, the D28S DCM was held at SECTA. Many clubs from different schools attended to announce their own upcoming events, information, and success about their projects and fundraisers from the past month. The DCM was conducted by LTG Sofia Yahya where she presented a seminar, skits with the DLT, and Austin Chavez conducted the icebreaker “Telephone” with the club he serves. D28S’s September DCM was an overall amazing experience to all Key Club members who all attended thanks to SECTA, LTG Sofia and her executive board.”
