What’s splashin’ Orcas? I hope everyone is resting and staying healthy! I am Aria Phan, the Lieutenant Governor for the 2020-2021 term and I am overjoyed to serve everyone! I am a freshman at Sage Creek where I discovered my passion for service and Key Club. In the past, I was the Member Recognition Coordinator and was given the opportunity to experience all the happiness, smiles, and service a well connected division brings. I really love music, whether it is listening to it or playing it on my violin. On top of that, I love to do anything art related, such as painting, calligraphy, and bullet journalling. As your Lieutenant Governor, I hope to lead our division to new heights. I want to encourage and inspire my Orca family! I hope to spread awareness about how wonderful Key Club really is!

Hey Orcas! This is your Division News Editor, Kennedy Parker, and I’m a sophomore at Sage Creek. Key Club was the first club I ever joined, and I’ve always loved the fun and energetic atmosphere! Plus, I loved the many clean up events where I saw many Orcas work together to restore and conserve our local environment. I applied to become the DNE because I wanted to use my artistic abilities to serve my community. I love drawing a variety of subjects, including people, nature, and creatures in different styles. Through my graphics I hope to inspire more people to join Key Club and truly understand our message and our values. I’m elated to be a greater part of the division and I'm grateful for this opportunity to work alongside passionate Key Clubbers in the DLT.

Hello Orcas! My name is Isabel Carreon. I attend Vista High School and I will be a senior during the 2020-2021 term. In addition to being one of your new Executive Assistants, I am also the president of Vista High School’s Key Club. Some of my interests include listening to rock music, photography, and editing photos to enhance their quality. As one of your executive assistants, I will make sure to create new and fun service ideas that will connect us more this term! During this new term, I will be more involved and connect with you guys to see what kind of service projects would be best for us. I am really excited about this new term because I have so many ideas already!

Hello all, my name is Jackie Torres! I’m from Carlsbad, California and am currently attending Sage Creek High School as a sophomore soon to be a junior. In addition to being an Executive Assistant, I also am the Vice President at my school. Aside from Key Club, I enjoy volleyball, field hockey, spending time with my brothers, and bullet journaling. I speak 2 languages (Spanish and English) and am currently learning ASL! I am passionate about helping others around me and positively building our community. I’m excited to help you all build stronger connections with each other at future service events!

Hi, I’m Nadia Razzaq and I’m glad to take on the role of Executive Assistant for this term! I love to be involved in things that help others. If I’m not tucked into the corner of a coffee shop, I can be found reporting for The Sage publication or practicing my shots on the basketball courts. I’m a lover of a large variety of music and driving along the coast. I aspire to help our division make new memories while effectively engaging in events. I cannot wait to work with everyone for this term and become more involved in the orca community!

4 | Meet the DLT

Hello, my name is Anika Hume, one of the two new Spirit Coordinators for the 2020-2021 term as well as co-president of Tri-City Christian School's club! Previously, I was the Member Development and Education Coordinator and Secretary of TCCS's club. I am so excited for you fellow Orcas to get to know me and work with me this term. I love Key Club, and I am here to show just how fun this club can be. Some things you may want to know about me are that I am in theatre and am a setter in volleyball. I will be a senior this next term, and will finally be graduating from TCCS after 16 years of attending the school. I am a piano teacher and am currently learning French and Spanish. My goals for this upcoming term are to increase attendance in DCMs and other events such as Fall Rally and DCON and to better the club in any way I can.

Hello, my name is Luis Aceves and I’m from Vista, CA at Rancho Buena Vista High School. I’m currently a Junior and your spirit coordinator. My interests are playing my guitar and reading. I’m also treasurer of RBV. I’m excited to be one of your spirit coordinators to help make the division fun and productive as well as keep everyone here motivated and prepared for spirit events. Lastly, I want to be more involved in Key Club as it brings the community together and gives people a chance to meet new friends!

Hello fellow orcas! My name is Jackson Duong. I go to Sage Creek High School and I will be a senior during the 2020-2021 term. Besides being your new Technology Coordinator, I am also the Webmaster of the Sage Creek Key Club. Some of my interests include playing video games, listening to music, and hanging out with my friends. My goals as the Technology Coordinator is to work more on my photography skills as I will be taking photos during our DCMs, service events, etc. I also want to be more involved with Key Club as a whole as I have made many new friends and created many memorable moments through this club and I want to try and give that experience to my fellow Key Clubbers.

What’s poppin?! I’m Jed and I go to Rancho Buena Vista High School (Go Longhorns!). As your Recognition Coordinator, I can’t wait to get your phenomenal passion for service recognized! I love falling deep into Wikipedia rabbit holes, taking candid photos, and playing Crazy 8! My goal is to expand the way we recognize our awesome members - stickers, certificates, gift cards, and the like! Can’t wait to hear about the awesome things you’ll do, Orcas!

5 | Meet the DLT

Hey Orcas! My name is Ceylon Wargo and I am President of Carlsbad Key Club. I am currently a junior and was Vice President last term. My goals for our club are to establish a friendly bond between the officers so that their positivity and motivation help the club grow. I’d like to do more service projects during meetings such as, goodie bags for the homeless, blankets for dogs in the shelter, and my personal favorite, coloring books for children in the hospital! I am hoping we can have the best year from all the support from members and officers!

Hello, my name is Josh Bowe-McLeod and I am the President for El Camino Key Club. Some things about me are that I live in Oceanside, although I am from Texas, (most recently at least). I spend most of my time away from school playing sports, including varsity swimming, water polo, track and field, and wrestling, my favorite AND least favorite of which would have to be wrestling - wrestlers would understand. The reason I participate in Key Club is that I care about my community and although I've been doing community service on my own for a while, how could I resist the opportunity to be part of a club that allows me to participate in community service events with my friends from school. My primary goal with Key Club is to improve myself as a person and as a leader through helping those around me.

Hey Orcas! My name is Emeline Oropeza, and I am the Key Club President of Guajome Park Academy! After discovering my love for Key Club, I decided to run for president so that hopefully I could get more of our members more involved and connected with our division as well! Some things I like doing on my free time is sketching some doodles while listening to music (especially musicals!) as well as experimenting with cooking! Another new interest I have taken up in the past year is a green thumb for gardening, particularly flowers! My goals for my club would be to bump up the member count and participation so everyone can see how cool Key Club really is!

6 | Meet the Presidents

Hullo, hullo, Orcas! I’m Jed, the President of Rancho Buena Vista Key Club. In addition to being President, I’m also your division Recognition Coordinator. I like to listen to music, read random snippets of poetry, and sing off-tune (jokingly) to randomly shuffled Spotify playlists. My goals as president is to increase membership and participation in Key Club events, whether it be the local marathon or the annual Fall Rally South. I believe that service is the number one thing our youth today should internalize because it’s fulfilling, rewarding, and fun! See ya around!

My name is Jessia Duong and I’m from the Class of 2021 and am the President of Sage Creek Key Club. I’m a bit of an introvert and a nerd so I ran for President as an attempt to, in a sense, “break out of my shell.” As President, I hope to significantly increase both membership and participation. I also want to create a friendly and welcoming environment within my own club that will allow members to have the same amazing experience I did throughout the 3 years I’ve been in Key Club. All in all, I want all my members to have a good time during service events while contributing to the community!

Hello fellow Key Clubbers, my name is Anika Hume, and I am co-president of the Tri-City Christian School club along with Jacob Larose, and Spirit Coordinator for our division. Some interesting things about me would be that I have a pet betta fish named Beans and I have been a pescatarian for over four years. I have a car named Tom and love him dearly. I currently teach piano and work at Hume & Co as an Office Administrator. My presidential goals for the 2020-2021 term are to increase TCCS's dues-paid members by at least 5% and increase TCCS's participation in Key Club events such as DCMs, Fall Rally, and hopefully even DCON.

My name is Jacob Larose and I’m the co president at Tri-City Christian School. My interests include watching sports, playing video games, and driving. My goals for Tri-City Key Club would be to bring the club together, find new opportunities for us to work together as a whole, and become more organized.

7 | Meet the Presidents

Hello Orcas! My name is Isabel Carreon. I am president of Vista Key Club and I will be a senior during the 2020-2021 term. Some of my interests include listening to rock music, photography, and editing photos to enhance their quality. I am also a 2nd Lieutenant Logistics Officer for this program called AFJROTC. Raising at least $4,000 for the Pediatric Trauma Program is super important because the Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP) helps children live happy lives that are not bothered by traumatic unintentional injuries! Donations to the PTP are used to provide grants to partner hospitals and PTP safety which ends up helping children through outreach programs, education, and provide doctors with advanced pediatric training. Let’s help show our support for this program and achieve our goal!

Having our division serve a total of 3,000 hours by the end of this term is extremely vital! Service is a great way to help better our community and give a helping hand to others. Dues-paid members even get a chance to be recognized by the CNH District because of their dedicated service. There are many ways to volunteer, so don’t be discouraged that you may not be able to do it in-person for a while! Many clubs have already started to provide a variety of ways you can still serve from home. Let’s continue to serve our home, school, and communities, Orcas!

Thank you for everything you do and I can’t wait to see how each and every one of you will help lead our division to another successful term!

10 | Division Goals

An Increase the amount of dues-paid members by 15% would really help us grow as a pod! This means we want to add 43 more members on top of the original amount of 284 to let them experience the wonders and fun Key Club provides! The money from your dues end up going back to you in many ways, like scholarships, Fally Rally/DCON and awards to name a few! Be sure to stay on track and always pay your dues! Lets encourage our Orca family to grow and help support others!

This points system is meant to recognize clubs for their dedication and all the hard work they do to achieve their goals throughout the term. We hope to foster friendly competition and intra-club camaraderie as well as highlight role model clubs of caring, character building, inclusiveness, and leadership, which are the Key Club core values, through the leaderboard known as “Pod Place”!

A group of Orcas playing Minecraft together during the DCM!

April 11, 2020 Our division successfully hosted our first ever online DCM! Using the division’s Discord server, we were able to meet and discuss what our clubs have been able to accomplish remotely. Then, we played a Kahoot where Orcas were able to test their Key Club knowledge! Members split up into different channels to play a variety of fun games soon after! Orcas met up digitally on Minecraft and Club Penguin to bond and have a blast with each other’s company. This unordinary event proves our division’s flexibility, Orcas are quite exceptional!

Although we may not be able to gather, we can still continue to serve our community from home. Many Orcas are already engaging in service activities like sewing masks and creating cards for those in need. Another way to support your community is through donations! Check the next page for resources and ways to help.

Sadly, International Convention 2020 has been cancelled due to the pandemic. The event was supposed to be in San Francisco, but holding the event would’ve been unsafe. For those of you who have already registered, the registration fees will be fully refunded. Stay safe, Orcas!
