September 28: Alzheimer’s Walk KEY CLUB ATTENDS THE WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S! by Rachel Swingler (Pacific Coast HS)

A couple of weeks ago, Pacific Coast Key Club attended the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in support of Team Price, created by Key Club alumni, Madison Price. After arriving in the early morning, members gathered at the event to raise funds going towards Alzheimer’s research by going to booths and playing games. Hundreds of people were at the event supporting their friends and/or families affected by Alzheimer’s. When all the members arrived, the sky was clear; although as everyone began to walk around, the rain started to come down hard, but this didn’t stop our Key Clubbers from attending the event. All our members continued to walk, as it was more important to us to stay for the cause than to stay dry.

August 26: Beckman’s Club Rush by Natalie Ho (Beckman HS)

Beckman High School had their club rush at lunch, where every club on campus has a chance to advertise their club and bring in potential members. To prep for such a big and exciting event, we started by making posters to make our club more visible and noticeable. Addy Desmond, Beckman’s publicist, and I each made a big poster with “Key Club” and a description of Key Club. We also advertised the club to our classes. On the day of, we set up a table right in the middle of the commons, where everyone would most likely go; Club Rush was very hectic and packed. Our board members had a lot of fun yelling to the crowd about this club and waving around the posters! Many people took notice of Key Club and a crowd soon gathered around our table to sign up. In the end, we counted how many new members we had, and the total was over 100 sign-ups! It was a very exciting and rewarding event, and it definitely started off the year strong with high hopes for what’s to come!

Popcorn, Caprisuns, and ice cream were sold separately for them to enjoy as well. They also could take pictures with a giant cardboard cutout of the Cat Bus! Overall, Foothill Key Club raised $170 for the Pediatric Trauma Program and had a blast with new and returning members!

During the event, volunteers distributed meals, water, groceries, produce, and clothing. Volunteers ran booths for snow cones and helped people find clothing for their families. September 21: September DCM by Vy Le (Canyon HS)

D04E’s Key Club had a DCM at La Purisma Church. We started off by talking about old news and taking attendance. After that, we started making some leis in order to get have more spirit gear for Fall Rally, which is coming up on November 9. Making the leis was hard and somewhat difficult, but I enjoyed making them especially because I was extremely excited to wear them just in time for Fall Rally! After we finished making the leis, we began playing icebreakers in order to get to know everyone better. An example of a fun bonding game we played was musical chairs. Overall, even though we didn’t discuss as much about Fall Rally as I had originally hoped, it was fun being able to hang out and bond with other Key Club members and my friends.

September 19-20: Yorba Linda Club Rush by Ryan Bui (Yorba Linda HS)

a Key Club success story!

5

Yorba Linda High School (YLHS) held its annual Club Rush, and it was an immense success this year. Over 50 YLHS students signed up for Key Club. During Club Rush, Key Club board members (Caitlyn Truong, Sarah Kim, Ryan Bui, Sharon Hwang, Christina Nguyen) worked their designated tables as they passed out candy to students who signed up to become new (unofficial) members. They handed out AirHeads, Hi-Chews, and more to incentivize students to join Key Club. While working the table, club president, Caitlyn Truong, repeatedly exclaimed all the benefits of joining Key Club: meeting new people, receiving community service hours, and helping the community. Furthermore, as a new policy implemented into Key Club this year, board members advertised free pizza during general meetings for members that attend club events; this is to increase participation and membership for Key Club at YLHS. Because of this, many YLHS students signed to join Key Club. A couple of weeks later, YLHS’s Key Club held its first meeting of the year, which had over 30 students attend to learn more about Key Club and how to join it!

September 18: Dessert Concert by Gillian Pascual (Villa Park HS)

On the night of September 18th, the Villa Park Key Club (VPKC) gathered together at their school’s Preforming Arts Center for the Dessert Concert. This was an event set up to help fundraise for Choir’s trip to Ireland, and VPKC was quick to give a helping hand. An hour before the doors opened for the audience, VPKC’s Casey Duyan, Sydney Ho, and Vivian La are seen setting up the dessert table, which the audience would later be helping themselves to during the concert. VPKC board members, Isabelle Tran and Hannah Lee, also help set up tables and chairs for the audience as well as set up the table outside the doors to later be used to sell tickets. When the moment came, the doors were opened for guests to be greeted warmly by more members, including Leyna Hoang, Jennellee Samkhem, Vy Vu, and Franky Ly, as they entered and found a table to sit at. When the lights came down, which signified the start of the show, VPKC’s bulletin editor Gillian Pascual mc’ed the show, announcing all the amazing performances that were presented that night. After the show was concluded, VPKC cleaned up with choir. VPKC loved supporting choir by helping and would not hesitate to help again in the near future!

Franky Ly from Villa Park

“Franky’s involvement with Key Club started off slow, but once he realized how great Key Club was, he became a more active member at Villa Park HS. He went to Regional Training Center, even though it was only mandatory for board members. I was also surprised when I saw how spirited he was when doing cheers or games. These characteristics show how great of a role model he is for other Key Clubbers!” - Vy Vu (Division News Editor)
