VINCENT’S LETTER

A monthly message from your Lieutenant Governor

What’s poppin, Division 4 East? I hope that you are able to enjoy the fall with your family and friends, whether that be on Zoom or at a social distance! I can tell it has been rough for a lot of us, including me. Recently, I’ve been working on college applications, school work, and reaching out to each of our clubs to help with their growth. This month, we should really focus on turning in our club dues payments, since the regular deadline for their submission is December 1st. Make sure you reach out to others to make sure they turn in their dues on time so that we can make this year amazing – even if we’re online for now. On another note, Key Club has been planning lots of different events that you can participate in. Look for the Chipotle Fundraiser from Foothill, the Social Game Night with Foothill, and the December DCM with Division 11. Division 11 is located in San Diego, and they’re super friendly. Their LTG is my best friend, and I hope that you’re able to relax on your winter break with us! The DCM will be on December 19th at 6:00pm and we will mainly be participating in icebreakers (it’s cold!), socials, and games for all of us. The expected turnout is 200 people, so give Division 11 a run for their money! As always, enjoy your time in Key Club. It’s been a rough time for all of us, but remember that service comes from the heart. You can always help others, even if it doesn’t count as community service hours. I hope to see you all soon! —Vincent Vu

Hi goldfish! I hope everything has been going well for all of you regarding school, extracurriculars, and for seniors who are finishing up their college applications! You guys can do it! Now, onto this winter-themed newsletter; Many of our home clubs have been holding many fun and unique events such as Orange Key Club’s boba fundraiser and Pacific Coast Key Club’s Red Ribbon week events. Make sure to read about them in the following pages to find out what our division’s schools have been up to! Last month in November, we got to experience our first Region Training Conference online. Find out what kind of activities we participated on the next page! Lastly, I’d like to remind all of you you check out the District’s December Newsletter as well for much more new and important information regarding Key Club! Stay safe and remember to wear a mask, Amber Dang

REGION TRAINING CONFERENCE Vy Le | Canyon

On Saturday, October 17, Region 3 held its annual Region Training Conference on Zoom. This was the first time that we held a Region Training Conference online. Comparing this experience to my last few times at RTC, I can gladly say that this RTC has greatly educated me as well as my fellow Key Clubbers. This year's RTC theme was super fun, with the theme being Teletubby-TC! Throughout the conference, each individual Key Clubber chose their preferred workshops that would best educate them on Key Club related topics, like board positions, motivation, and many more. Personally, for me, I went to the Presidents workshop, Dues Payment workshop, Distinguished Officer E-Portfolio workshop, and the Scholarships workshop. Each of these workshops gave me the opportunity to learn more about something Key Club related that I hoped to learn more about and educate myself on. From the Presidents workshop, I was able to learn more about my role as a President and how to better serve as one. From the Dues Payment workshop, I learned how to best collect dues from members. From the Distinguished Officer E-Portfolio workshop, I learned how to put together a good and professional e-portfolio for Key Club awards and recognition. And from the Scholarships workshop, I learned about some amazing scholarship opportunities that could help me in my future! Overall, I believe that these workshops in Region 3’s annual Region Training Conference have provided me with lots of essential knowledge in regards to Key Club!

“This conference is definitely one to remember as I gained new leadership skills that will guide me through my Key Club journey!” — Kate Lee | Yorba Linda

“I love how people were interacting with each other, and I met a lot of new people! I am always so amazed at the work and effort the lieutenant governors and advisors put in to hold these kind of events over zoom.” — Christina Nguyen | Yorba Linda

OCTOBER DCM Jarod Smith| OSCA

Welcome back Goldfishies to OCSA Key Club’s monthly wrap up. With spooky season over and moving into a season of family and giving thanks, we look forward to spreading community cheer and spirit. Last month we got the opportunity to attend the virtual October DCM and see many of our fellow Goldfishies, as well as other key club members within our region. Through our club meetings in the previous month, we mainly focused on giving teacher’s our appreciation with cards, letters, and videos of our gratitude and love for them. But most of all, we wanted to ensure the OCSA Key club community was just as strong virtually as it is in person. For now, we are signing off, but we cannot wait to see you next month!

COLOR A SMILE EVENT JOLYN LE| VILLA PARK Villa Park Key Club collaborated with Villa Park National Honor Society to create a volunteer event! We chose Color-a-Smile, which is where everyone printed and colored a coloring sheet. This service event was held on October 23, 2020 on Google Meets. There was an amazing turnout of members from both Key Club and National Honor Society. The event lasted for an hour and it was wonderful to see over 70 people join. Below, a few of the volunteers showed their beautiful coloring sheets they were working on! Kelly Pham, VPKC’s Vice President and VPNHS’s Senior Secretary, mentions: “Color-A-Smile has been an ongoing event in our division for quite a while, but recently, we’ve been holding Color-A-Smile calls to motivate members to participate in the event. It’s a lot more fun to color when everyone is on the call, because we can talk to each other, listen to music, and enjoy each others’ company - even though the event is remote, it feels less lonely when we do it together.” Below, it displays the coloring sheets Kelly Pham finished during her time in the Color-A-Smile Event. This event was a great opportunity to earn hours and bring a smile to a child’s face.

ORANGE BOBA FUNDRAISER PAULINA ESCALERA|ORANGE This past month Orange High Key Club and our members participated in a fundraiser we so excitedly arranged! We wanted to form a fundraiser that many of our members and students could participate in. We came up with the idea of teaming up with a small boba business in our city. It was so much fun! The boba fundraiser was through a new small business called Fourtea. It was definitely extra fun because we partnered with a business that is starting small and hopefully can get bigger one day. Many of our members participated in the fundraiser along with family and friends. It was nice knowing we would be contributing to the Pediatric Trauma Program. Everyone was so stoked to try a new boba place while helping out for something great!

RED-RIBBON WEEK KEANA REDFEARN| PACIFIC COAST From October 26th-31st, 2020, Key Club members digitally participated in Red Ribbon Week by dressing up to drugprevention themes. Key Clubbers posted and sent us pictures of themselves supporting the cause through following the themes our member representative, Claire Munch, created. Below is the list of Red Ribbon Week themes, created by Club Member, Claire Munch. Below is an image of President Grace Davenport’s post, representing the theme for Day 1, Monday, October 26th.

ANNOUNCEMENTS DISTRICT PENPALS

ONGOING SERVICE EVENTS

For those of you who applied for District PenPals, make sure to keep an eye out for PenPal activities that you can complete. Completing these can garner recognition for you and your partner, so make sure to communicate with them often to get to know them better!

Hey, Goldfish! Remember we still have some ongoing service events such as Charity Miles, FreeRice, and Color A Smile! These are all events that you can still participate in and do it on your own time as well! Check our Division Instagram, which can be found in the Contacts page, for more information on how to complete these events. Be sure to record your hours in our service log once you’re finished!

Some ways for you to easily get to know your partner can be through zoom calling each other or following each on social media; doing all of these can only benefit you and result in you making a great, new friend and winning a prize for having fun!

13

SPRING RALLY If any of you did not know already, instead of having Fall Rally in November like we usually do, we have Spring Rally planned in April for all of our members to attend! The event will still proceed the same but this time in the Spring! It will be a new experience but it will be a lot of fun! Look forward to Spring Rally, Goldfish!
