VINCENT’S LETTER A monthly message from your Lieutenant Governor

What’s splashing D04E? It’s finally past the month of February and I hope everyone was able to enjoy Valentines, whether it was with a loved one or by yourself. There are so many ways to show love to others and it’s just as important to show love to yourself. Make sure to spend time with your loved ones and tell them “I love you” once in a while! It’s been a difficult and stressful few months with the second semester beginning and a rough transition. But, hope is on the way! Make sure to continue staying safe and studying hard because the school year is almost coming to a close. In terms of Key Club news, I hope you enjoyed the Care Bear Bonding event and the February DCM. They were back-to-back, which meant that there was a lot of last-minute planning, so I hoped that you were able to make new friends or at least enjoy the almost-end of the term! As always, I may not be able to say this enough, but thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you all as the Lieutenant Governor of D04E for the 2020-2021 term. Our service hours are almost at 3.5k, meaning we are only 2,000 service hours away from reaching that goal. Please continue to encourage your members to serve and look out for Virtual DCON this year! See all the hard work you’ve done pay off and celebrate the start of a new term. Remember to congratulate Ashley, our new Lieutenant Governor too! Swimming with service, Vincent Vu

AMBER’S LETTER A monthly message from your Division News Editor

Hello, Goldfish! I hope everyone has been well and has been staying safe for this past month. I just want to say that all of you have been doing an amazing job with running your clubs and hosting different events. Keep up the amazing work, Goldfish! Anyway, moving on, I have a Spring themed newsletter for you guys to see what we have been doing this past month. Many of our clubs have been racking up their service hours with many events, such as Canyon holding a Hygiene Items Drive and Pacific Coast hosting a Non-slip sock making event! To end off this letter, I want to ask that all of you congratulate our new Lieutenant Governor that was chosen for the 2021-2022 term, Ashley Park! She was chosen at Conclave back in January. Go to the next pages to see Ashley introduce herself and to see what occurred at Conclave and at the DCM that took place after. It’s been a strange and long year, Goldfish, but we have been doing a great job and pushing through. Let’s keep swimming!

Wishing you all the best, Amber Dang

MEET OUR NEW LTG!

ASHLEY PARK 5

Hey Division 4 East! This is Ashley Park, your next Lieutenant Governor Elect! It has been so great to see our division grow and connect over the last term, and I can’t wait to finish this term off strong! Being able to watch all of you work hard and be passionate about Key Club has been so inspiring to me, and that’s what makes Ashley’s letterme so excited for our next term! I know that whatever the circumstances may be next year, our division will continue to thrive and that our family will become even closer. In my own home club, we just went through our club elections for the next board officers, and I know you all are going through this process as well! I wish all the candidates the best of luck in running for your positions! You are all great student leaders, and I have complete faith in you all! I hope to see you all at the upcoming service events and DCM’s in the future! When you do, don’t be afraid to say hi or to ask me any questions! I want to get to know all of you and create lasting bonds with my few key-clubbers, and I’d be more than happy to talk! Thank you for your support this term, and I will make sure to do my best to support you guys as much as the next one!

Thanks, Ashley Park

CONCLAVE AND JANUARY DCM JOLYN LE | VILLA PARK With 2020 now far behind us, D04E started the year off with a January DCM and a conclave! Both meetings were held on the same day with the Region Conclave first at 9AM and the DCM afterwards. For a short recap on what happened during the Conclave, lieutenant governor candidates recited speeches in front of everyone. Also, the candidates were asked questions from each school’s delegates. Though the process was tedious, we were able to introduce all the new LTGs including D04E’s Ashley Park. For the DCM that happened afterwards, we had a brief overview of Division events like service projects we are continuing, pen pals, and member recognition contests. The next page displays our current progress in Division goals. The photos on the right shows these are the current service projects from the previous months. They also show the member recognition contests that members could apply to. Although this DCM was relatively short, it was a great start to the new year with a new lieutenant governor elect!

After the nominating conference was over, the new lieutenant governors were chosen. Luckily, Ashley Park from our division had no competition to run against. She is now the new lieutenant governor of Division 4 East for the 2021-2022 term! —Kate Lee | Yorba Linda

CLUB RECAPS NON-SLIP SOCKS DONATION Keana Redfearn | Pacific Coast This past Wednesday, our club members gathered on Zoom to watch Inside Out while making non-slip socks for hospital patients. Together, our volunteers discussed how to decorate their socks and where they will be sent. Below is a photo of our participants watching the movie and following instructions. PCHS’ Vice President, Alycia Paradise, lead this event while displaying the socks that she embellished. Also below is a screenshot of us celebrating for receiving Club of the Month at the January DCM. Woo-hoo!

HYGIENE DRIVE Jaqueline Tran| Canyon Canyon Key Club held a Hygiene Drive for the month of January. We collected items like toothpaste, deodorant, bar soap, menstrual products, shampoos, conditioners, shaving cream, and toilet paper. The items collected are going to be donated to the Orange County Rescue Mission to help people who need these supplies. The Hygiene Drive was a success, we got a lot of members who came out to donate for the cause, and a considerable amount of boxes were filled up to be donated. I personally had a connection to this event because it was very touching to see the whole process of it from start to finish; from planning it all the way to see it turning out amazing. I had fun being at the drive with a fellow board member to run and supervise it, and I was even able to further connect with my peers who came out to the Hygiene Drive. It makes me happy knowing that the items collected are going to a good cause to help people for the better.

BOARD APPLICATIONS Paulina Escalera| Orange Orange High Key Club started off the year with board applications. We also have kept our members informed about the current service events offered by our club and the division. This past month we held an informative meeting for those interested in obtaining a board position next school year. It was nice to see many are eager to get involved in our club and potentially become a board member. We made sure we answered all the questions our club members had about our roles. Along with a personal statement each of our board members put together. It was nice to be able to share our experiences as part of the board this past year. It was in fact different than others, but we assured those interested how fun it is to be involved!

GOLDFISH OF THE MONTH School:

CANYON Canyon Key Club served the most service hours for the Division this month, coupling in over a hundred hours. They have always done a great job in terms of service events, fundraising, and participation. I look forward to their eventual new board and I was extremely thankful for the many members that signed up for the February DCM and the Care Bear Bonding. — Lieutenant Governor Vincent Vu Officer:

AMBER | CANYON Amber is exceptional all around. From turning in her submissions as a Secretary on-time every single month, to completing monthly Division articles, visuals, and newsletters, she does everything with passion and dedication. Her sheer will to take on two of the most difficult positions in Key Club and still show her love for Key Club all the way until the end inspires me. She is the ultimate role model for a hard-worker and I thank her for everything she’s done this term. — Lieutenant Governor Vincent Vu
