VINCENT’S LETTER A MONTHLY MESSAGE FROM YOUR LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR

What’s splashing, D04E? Its been quite the month with different events, extracurricular activities, and schoolwork, but I hope that October has been treating you well. I have been focused on keeping up with school and finding time to spend with my family and friends because these trying times aren’t easy for any of us. I want you all to remember that when times get tough, reach out to a family, friend, or loved one. I promise you that they want to be there for you. Your life matters, so please don’t feel like you’re alone in this. I am not the most knowledgeable about each and every one of my member’s lives but I do know that we’re all in this together. On another note, Key Club has been going quite slow due to Region Training Conference, which happened on October 17th. At RTC, members were able to learn more about Key Club, college life, and other personal workshops aimed at bettering our homes, schools, and communities. Additionally, we hosted our October DCM the same day, in which members were able to learn more about the upcoming events within our division. I hoped that you enjoyed both of these events! Look out for future service events, fundraisers, and DCMs because they’re going to be even more fun with extra members joining. Remember to stay safe, and I hope to see you all soon!

You all have been doing an amazing job, and I congratulate all of you who have been putting their all into this club! With that being said, let’s move onto the next pages to see what Division 4 East has been up to! Also, make sure to check out the November District Newsletter at cnhkeyclub.org ! SEPTEMBER DCM JOLYN LE | VILLA PARK To kick off the school year with new members across the schools, the division created a movie night for the DCM! Over 70 members arrived to view announcements and to enjoy the incredible movie, The Greatest Showman. Below, Visual One showcases the title screen for the September DCM! During the September DCM, we discussed many topics varying from the newsletter, updates within each high school club, officer and Division Team member of the month, and much more. We also were introduced to new events like the OC pen pal system. Afterwards, The Greatest Showman was being streamed on Disney+ over the Zoom meeting, and although there were issues in the first few minutes, we finally were able to watch! Isabella Carrazco, a Villa Park Key Club member, mentioned, “I really enjoyed The Greatest Showman. The movie was very entertaining, and I loved reading the comments in the Zoom chat. Despite the minor technical difficulties and lag or buffers, overall this DCM went very well and was so much fun! This was a great experience for all the new members to understand our Division better and to connect with other members again!

This was by far my favorite DCM I have ever attended. I got to spend a relaxing Saturday night watching my favorite movie with my fellow Key Club members. Even my little sister joined me for a bit to watch! I especially enjoyed reading all the comments filled with reactions to the movie such as “omg awee” and “I forgot how good this movie was!” — Katelyn Lee, Yorba Linda

FOOTHILL GENERAL MEETING DIEGO SAHAGUN | FOOTHILL Our first General Meeting focused itself to welcoming new members from our virtual club rush and to update the returning members as well as our new plans to handle service events and the club activities in general. The turnout was great as we received around 55 members in the zoom, most being new members. It was exciting holding most of the boards first general meeting and getting more people to help the community through the club. We explained Key Club and the current district and home events that are planned, and we hopefully will see an increase in member activity.

GARDEN CRAFT DONATIONS KEANA REDFEARN | PACIFIC COAST On September 16th, 2020, Key Club members collaborated on Zoom to create and donate garden crafts for a preschool classroom. Key Clubbers were instructed how to make origami butterflies, sunflowers, and had the opportunity to design other garden-related decorations if desired. The event lasted a total of 1 hour, beginning at 12:00 pm, ending at 1:00 pm. Below are the origami Articles and visuals instructions created by PCHS’ Club President, Grace Davenport & Vice President Alycia Paradise. Below is an image of a finished Sunflower, created by Editor, Keana Redfearn.

AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY DISCOVERY SHOP PAULINA ESCALERA | ORANGE Our members this month got to help out in a fun opportunity! We had the chance to collaborate with a local thrift store that has an awesome purpose. A little bit about them is they are new to the community, and supporting local businesses is always helpful during these Articles and visuals times. Not only that, but all store earnings go to the American Cancer Society! It was wonderful finding this shop as we can continue to work with them especially with October coming up and it being the month of Breast Cancer awareness. Our members were eager to help out! They help the store owners with organization and cleaning, which is very important to keep a business running. Not only are our members going to help the business grow, but they are helping it to stay active with customers to help raise more funds for the American Cancer Society!

OSCA GENERAL MEETING JAROD SMITH | OSCA Guess who’s back, back, back again my goldfishes. It’s the OCSA Key Club and we are so glad to be sharing what we have done with you during this spooky month. On Thursday October 7, 2020, we had our very first club meeting with over 20 participants. Not only were old board members there, we also got a very special visit from the one and only Vincent Vu, our Lieutenant Governor. We were able toArticles initiate and manyvisuals new and younger members that will carry on the goldfish legacy long after current members graduate. Being able to come together as an OCSA community once again in a Key Club platform was more than swimtastical. Hope you enjoy your spooky spooky month.

CLOTHING DRIVE JONATHAN TRAN | CANYON Earlier in September, Canyon Key Club held a clothing drive as a way to stay involved in the community during quarantine. We held our drive at Peralta Canyon Park, where members would simply drop off their articles of clothing. In order to maintain within public health guidelines, only a few people went to pick up the clothing. The event was a success: We received an abundance of clothes! We planned to have all donations be sentArticles to the Salvation Army. Because of the limitations and visuals of quarantine and the result of this event, we plan on holding similar drives in the future as a way to stay active.

ANNOUNCEMENTS MEMBERSHIP Membership dues are coming up soon, everyone! Since we are diving deeper into the school year, make sure to get all your returning Key Club members and all your new members to fill out the member recruitment form that can be found on our LinkTree. You can find it in the contacts page of this newsletter, or you also can find it in the bio of our Division Instagram (which you can also find in the contacts page of this newsletter)! Your home clubs will most likely be holding their own membership drives where you can sign up for Key Club as well, so make sure to look out for that!

ONGOING SERVICE EVENTS Hey, Goldfish! Remember we still have some ongoing service events such as Charity Miles, FreeRice, and Color A Smile! These are all events that you can still participate in and do it on your own time as well! Check our Division Instagram, which can be found in the Contacts page, for more information on how to complete these events. Be sure to record your hours in our service log once you’re finished!

SPRING RALLY If any of you did not know already, instead of having Fall Rally in November like we usually do, we have Spring Rally planned in April for all of our members to attend! The event will still proceed the same but this time in the Spring! It will be a new experience but it will be a lot of fun! Look forward to Spring Rally, Golfish!

CNH PENPALS Sign up for District Penpals to meet someone new at tinyurl.com/cnhpenpals2021! Are you ready to meet someone beyond your division? You can possibly meet someone within California, Nevada, or even Hawaii! There will be challenges that you and your penpal can participate in in order to receive recognition. Make sure to sign up by October 30th 11:59 PM to participate in this exciting term-long event!

GOLDFISH OF THE MONTH SCHOOL:

CANYON

Goldfish of the month

Canyon has done an amazing job this month. I have noticed them create amazing general slides and host creative ideas for their meetings for their members. Canyon, once again, has the most service hours for the month, showing that they are involving all of their members for the month on a monthly basis. Furthermore, although their meeting did not go as planned, they held a professional standard to the meeting and made sure that each of the members understood the expectations at Key Club meetings. — Lieutenant Governor Vincent Vu

OFFICER:

RAFAEL MARTINEZ | FOOTHILL Rafael has shown tremendous growth in terms of professionalism and leadership throughout the term as president. I have noticed that he is more careful and collected when it comes to planning his meetings and working with the members, officers, and advisors that are affiliated with Foothill High School. Rafael continues to work hard and is making Foothill more of a stronger club by demonstrating his leadership skills. — Lieutenant Governor Vincent Vu

13

MEMBER:

JONATHAN LIU | PACIFIC COAST Jonathan from Pacific Coast has demonstrated amazing qualities of leadership and dedication to service. Grace, the president of Pacific Coast Key Club, writes that Jonathan participates in all of the meetings and continues to do service even during social distancing. These are exemplary qualities from a new member, and I hope that he continues to attend events and leave a lasting impression on Key Club for many years to come.

Goldfish of the month Governor Vincent Vu — Lieutenant

Congratulations, everyone! Keep up the great work!
