VINCENT’S LETTER A monthly message from your Lieutenant Governor What’s splashing, D04E? School is in full swing again! Of course, that means that many of us will be super busy with our own school work and extracurricular activities, but don’t forget the importance of serving your communities. There are always different ways of doing community service, whether that’s volunteering at an event or participating in online service opportunities. I hope you make new friends online by participating in the DCMs or Penpal systems that are popping up all over the CNH District! Look out for future fundraisers and socials, especially for Among Us or any other crazy games out there. Remember to apply for distinguished or aim for that 50 service hour goal because this quarantine is something we can take advantage of and spend time helping others. Pay dues and make the most of this crazy year. I hope to see you soon, Goldfishes! Swimming into service, Vincent Vu

Amber’s LETTER A monthly message from your Division News Editor How’s everything been, Goldfish? Here’s a Halloween-themed newsletter for the month of October for you guys. I hope school has been alright for most of you. It’s been really tiring for me, especially with having to deal with college apps and such; however, I hope that you and your home clubs have been trying really hard to continue to have many events and activities for your members to participate in because we got to reach our goal of 5,500 hours! As a little word of encouragement, let us strive to overcome the ongoing quarantine and the struggles that come with it. In fact, I believe many of us are already doing a great job at doing so. Check out what we have been doing for the past month in the following pages! Lastly, make sure to go check out the October District Newsletter at cnhkeyclub.org!!! Stay safe and healthy, Amber Dang

AUGUST DCM Jolyn Le | Villa Park Full of excitement and jubilation, Division 4 East Key Club members joined the conjoined DCM with Division 4 South and Division 4 Central! This meeting was planned on August 22, 2020 from 1 PM until 4:15 PM with plenty of entertaining events and activities. The formatting of this event was slightly different than typical DCMs because everyone joined a YouTube live stream introduction and conclusion of the meeting, with a shared Google Document containing all links to activities and events. In D04E’s meeting, we discussed the goals we accomplished, member recruitment, and member/club/DLT of the month! One of the topics the DCM talked about was the goal progress this year, which you can see in Visual One (below). Division 4 East is nearly at 1,400 hours and $238! Club of the Month for August was Villa Park High School once again, as seen in Visual Two (below)! In Visual Three (next page) is a few of the attendees to the DCM. After the division meetings, there were different volunteer events to choose from such as Color-a-smile, Thank You letter card making, Crane Making, and Dog Toy Making. It was fantastic to meet new people from Division 4 South and Division 4 Central. The last event was to choose your activity to join such as Breakout Rooms, Zoom Shenanigans, and Jeopardy. This was an opportunity to interact with other Key Clubbers. Overall, this DCM was a delightful way to end summer and to enter the new school year with hopes that Key Club can resume in person where everyone can be together!

ORIGAMI CRANE MAKING Jolyn Le | Villa Park

After making dog toys in a previous service project event, D04E is back with another volunteer event where members can be hands-on and learn how to create beautiful origami pieces! The event consisted of a tutorial on how to make a basic origami crane and then making more on our own in the second half of the meeting. Though there were a few attendees who created cranes for their first time ever, many members who joined had previous experience in creating origami pieces such as Jennellee Samkhem! Senior at Villa Park High School, Jennellee Samkhem, joined her first virtual Key Club event and developed cute origami creatures! Jennellee stated, “I was really excited to do this service event since I love folding cranes! After the event ended, I was inspired to practice my origami skills and practiced with more cranes and lotus flowers and learned how to make jumping frogs, all of which I hope to donate with the cranes!” As seen in the visuals below, these are Jennellee’s incredible origami creations! Learning origami can be difficult without someone helping you step by step in person, but everyone made the most of it and were able to learn a new skill and donate these cute cranes to St. Joseph Hospital!

CLUB RECAPS CHARITY MILES Diego Sahagun | Foothill Continuing the District Charity Miles event, our club decided to get its board members to hike together as a bonding experience. Breathing in the fresh air in the Crystal Cove park, hiking through the hills and still exercising safety protocols, the board had fun and got to know each other better through this meet up as a way to break the mundane cycle of the Coronavirus lockdown. Although in total our participation in this event has lowered due to the start of the school year and the start of more assignments.

Goldfish of the month School:

canyon Canyon Key Club has definitely stepped up their game this past month. By providing more service events and fundraisers, Canyon if definitely working hard to supply their members with different events that they can attend. Along with strong MRF submissions, Canyon has recently held their first meeting and is doing and amazing job with getting their members involved in Key Club. I look forward to seeing other clubs and their growth after Club Rush and their meetings! —Lieutenant Governor Vincent Vu

Officer:

Diego Sahagun | Foothill Diego has been doing an amazing job in terms of submitting his articles and visuals as a bulletin editor. Amber (DNE) and I have both noticed that his consistency and diligence when it comes to submission has made him shine in terms of being an exemplary officer. He provides a lot of different articles and visuals that the Division News Editor can use for her own submissions, which has made both of our jobs a lot easier. Diego continues to work hard and I hope that these qualities motivate other officers to give it their all even these trying times.

She showcases leadership and inclusiveness, two of the core values within Key Club and demonstrates tremendous passion and potential to take Key Club to even further heights. As a member, Rheyanah is doing an amazing job, and I hope to see others follow in this path. —Lieutenant Governor Vincent Vu

Congratulations to all of you! Thank you for your service, and keep up the great work!

ANNOUNCEMENTS FreeRice

Charity Miles

As most of you know, FreeRice has been a service event that we have been doing for a couple months now, and fortunately, you can still participate in this event!

Charity Miles is another ongoing service event that we have been holding for a while now! You can still participate by downloading this free app that donates money to different charities depending on how much you exercise. Once you download, choose a preferred charity (i.e. March of Dimes or UNICEF), and begin walking, running, or biking! And guess what, there’s no deadline!**

FreeRice is a free app where you can answer fun trivia questions, and with each question answered correctly, the app will donate 10 grains of rice to those in need! For every 500 grains of rice you donate, you will receive 30 minutes of service for Key Club. Help us in preventing world hunger now!**

District PenPals Sign up for District Penpals to meet someone new at tinyurl.com/ocpenpals! Some schools from our division, such as Canyon and Villa Park are participating in this fun event, and your school can as well! If you’d like to have your school join, make sure to contact our Lieutenant Governor on how to join!

Member Recruitment Membership dues are coming up soon, everyone! Since we are diving deeper into the school year, make sure to get all your returning Key Club members and all your new members to fill out the member recruitment form that can be found on our LinkTree. You can find it in the contacts page of this newsletter, or you also can find it in the bio of our Division Instagram (which you can also find in the contacts page of this newsletter)!

** All of these service events require you to fill out our service log to receive your hours! The service log can be found on our LinkTree!
