Editorz Notez All of us at Behind Barz hope that each of you had a very blessed Christmas! We also wish you a very happy, prosperous and safe New Year!!! May your roads be curvy, the weather be fine, and the sun on your face continue to shine!
Happy New Year We have a big spread this issue on Wreaths Across America. You can read all about it on pages 12-14. Wreaths Across America is committed to teaching younger generations about the value of their freedoms, and the importance of honoring those who sacrificed so much to protect those freedoms. Without the help of volunteers (many who are bikers and bike clubs) they would not be successful in what they do. Which is to remember the men and women who served our country, honor our military and their families, and teach our children about our freedom and those who protect it. Without them we would not have the freedom to ride our bikes in this great country, as we do. Never forget the sacrifices they made for all of us! Thanks to all of our readers for keeping the suggestions coming in, as well as, the stories, photos, poems, etc. Of course, none of this would be possible without our advertisers. We could not do Behind Barz without you! Without our biker family, readers and advertisers, we wouldn’t be. So, “Thank you!” God Bless each one of you!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Volunteers and donors are what make NCPacks4Patriots what it is and Barbara is the jell that holds it all together. She and her volunteers work tirelessly to make everything work smoothly and efficiently for our heroes through NCPacks. Barbara and the volunteers provide a little bit of “HOME” for the men and women serving our great country! Whether it be giving of their time to help pack boxes, creating beautiful cards with encouragement, or running errands last minute, they do it graciously and with a smile. They know how much one small item can mean to a soldier far away from home...the smell of a favorite candy or snack, the site of a familiar book or magazine, just knowing that friends and even strangers back home, care about them can boost moral and esprit de corps! So many look forward to receiving an NCPacks box and sharing it with their fellow soldiers.
Photo above: Barbara being recognized by local troops. Photos on this page and facing page: All of our volunteers have huge hearts for our military! ...and they always have a smiling face! THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS!
We want to take this time to thank you, Barbara, and all of the wonderful volunteers who make NCPacks4Patriots what it is!!! Y’all move mountains for our heroes! ...and I am sure there are hundreds of thousand of our troops out there who feel the same! ~ THANK YOU! ~

Our mission is dependent on both items for packages and financial support for postage. We invite and welcome your support. Our troops are still deploying, still serving and still sacrificing for our country. We honor that service and sacrifice. Will you join our team to make sure we can continue our mission of support to show our deployed troops that Americans still appreciates their service and sacrifice? Please don’t ever think that you can’t make a donation because your effort is too small. We appreciate every single dollar. Troop Signup for Care Packages We appreciate the service of the members of our country’s military as they deploy to serve missions in difficult and dangerous environments. Our care packages show the care and support of a grateful nation. They contain snacks, toiletries, and recreation items. Troops are welcome to ask for specific items that they may be missing or needing. Special requests often are items like coffee, certain snacks, socks, favorite magazines and books. We send packages that are large enough for several members of a troop to share. Chaplains are a good point of contact for our organization so they can distribute items in chapel, recreation items, or along their visits to outlying areas. Troops who are deployed and have a confirmed address are welcome to request care packages! Send name, address, and stop mail date to us by email to ncp4p@yahoo.com - information is only used for mailing labels and kept secure. You can also ask for special requests or needs and we will try to fill those. We ask that you let us know when packages arrive.

2020 AMA/ASRA-sanctioned Daytona 200 takes place March 14 79th running of 200-mile road race at Daytona International Speedway
PICKERINGTON, OHIO -Dozens of the nation’s fastest road racers will be pushing their motorcycles to the limit around Daytona International Speedway’s 3.56-mile road course on March 14 for the 79th running of the Daytona 200. The 200-mile road race, sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association and the American Sportbike Racing Association, features some of the most talented road racers from around the world battling on the speedway’s 31-degree banking. “The AMA has a great partner in the American Sportbike Racing Association for the Daytona 200, and we’re looking forward to another year of close competition in this iconic race,” AMA Track Racing Manager Ken Saillant said. “The past two years have delivered great racing and thrilling finishes, and the number of international riders competing in the event has been on the rise.”
AMA Hall of Famers who have won the Daytona 200 include Giacomo Agostini, Brad Andres, Steve Baker, Ben Campanale, Miguel Duhamel, David Emde, Don Emde, Floyd Emde, Johnny Gibson, Paul Goldsmith, Nicky Hayden, Bobby Hill, Dick Klamfoth, Ed Kretz, Eddie Lawson, Dick Mann, Billy Mathews, Wayne Rainey, Cal Rayborn, Roger Reiman, Kenny Roberts, Gene Romero, Scott Russell, Kevin Schwartz, Dale Singleton, Freddie Spencer, Johnny Spiegelhoff, Babe Tancrede and Ralph White. “We’re really excited to be co-sanctioning the 79th running of the Daytona 200 with the AMA,” ASRA President Kevin Elliott said. “Having worked with the AMA and Daytona International Speedway to make this standalone event more attractive to international riders for the last five years, we are pleased to see a record number of requests for race information from outside the United States.” For more information about the Daytona 200, including how competitors can register in advance, by visiting www.asraracing.com.
The Daytona 200 was first held in 1937, with racing taking place annually -- except during World War II -- on an oval course along the Atlantic Ocean beach and U.S. Route A1A. The race moved to Daytona International Speedway in 1961.

W
reaths Across America began in 1992 with a trailer load of wreaths, decorated by volunteers and laid at the graves of fallen soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery has now become a national organization with over 1200 participating locations - all focused on the mission to Remember - Honor - and Teach. Morrill Worcester, owner of Worcester Wreath Company of Harrington, Maine, was a 12 year old paper boy for the Bangor Daily News when he won a trip to Washington D.C. His first trip to our nation’s capital was one he would never forget, and Arlington National Cemetery made an especially indelible impression on him. This experience followed him throughout his life and successful career, reminding him that his good fortune was due, in large part, to the values of this nation and the veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. In 1992, Worcester Wreath found themselves with a surplus of wreaths nearing the end of the holiday season. Remembering his boyhood experience at Arlington, Worcester realized he had an opportunity to honor our country’s veterans. With the aid of Maine Senator Olympia Snowe, arrangements were made for the wreaths to be placed at Arlington in one of the older sections of the cemetery that had been receiving fewer visitors with each passing year.

Cemetery in our nation’s capital. It takes many Photo: Wreaths Across America
Above: Black Hills National Cemetery in South Dakota. Photo by: Sally Colhoff As plans were underway, a number of other individuals and organizations stepped up to help. James Prout, owner of local trucking company Blue Bird Ranch, Inc., generously provided transportation all the way to Virginia. Volunteers from the local American Legion and VFW Posts gathered with members of the community to decorate each wreath with traditional red, hand-tied bows. Members of the Maine State Society of Washington, D.C. helped to organize the wreath-laying, which included a special ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The annual tribute went on quietly for several years, until 2005, when a photo of the stones at Arlington, adorned with wreaths and covered in snow, circulated around the internet. Suddenly, the project received national attention. Thousands of requests poured in from all over the country from people wanting to help with Arlington, to emulate the Arlington project at their National and State cemeteries, or to simply share their stories and thank Morrill Worcester for honoring our nation’s heroes. Unable to donate thousands of wreaths to each state, Worcester began sending seven wreaths to every state, one for each branch of the military, and for POW/MIAs. In 2006, with the help of the Civil Air Patrol and other civic organizations, simultaneous wreath-laying ceremonies were held at over 150 locations around the country. The Patriot Guard Riders volunteered as escort for the wreaths going to Arlington. This began the annual “Veterans Honor Parade” that travels the east coast in early December.

...continued from page 13
The wreath-laying is still held annually, on the second or third Saturday of December. WAA’s annual pilgrimage from Harrington, Maine to Arlington National Cemetery has become known as the world’s largest veterans’ parade, stopping at schools, monuments, veterans’ homes and communities all along the way to remind people how important it is to remember, honor and teach. Wreaths Across America also conducts several programs to honor our veterans, including the popular “Thanks a Million” campaign which distributes cards to people all over the country to give veterans a simple “thank you” for their service. WAA participates in veterans’ events throughout the year, and has a veteran liaison on staff to work with local veterans organizations.
Above: Laying of a wreath at The Tomb of The Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. A breathtaking sight to behold. Photo: Wreaths Across America The annual trip to Arlington and the groups of volunteers eager to participate in Worcester’s simple wreath-laying event grew each year until it became clear the desire to remember and honor our country’s fallen heroes was bigger than Arlington, and bigger than this one company. In 2007, the Worcester family, along with veterans, and other groups and individuals who had helped with their annual veterans wreath ceremony in Arlington, formed Wreaths Across America, a non-profit 501-(c)(3) organization, to continue and expand this effort, and support other groups around the country who wanted to do the same. The mission of the group is simple: Remember. Honor. Teach. In 2008, over 300 locations held wreath-laying ceremonies in every state, Puerto Rico and 24 overseas cemeteries. Over 100,000 wreaths were placed on veterans’ graves. Over 60,000 volunteers participated. And that year, December 13, 2008 was unanimously voted by the US Congress as “Wreaths Across America Day”. In 2014, Wreaths Across America and its national network of volunteers laid over 700,000 memorial wreaths at 1,000 locations in the United States and beyond, including ceremonies at the Pearl Harbor Memorial, as well as Bunker Hill, Valley Forge and the sites of the September 11 tragedies. This was accomplished with help from 2,047 fundraising groups, corporate contributions, and donations of trucking, shipping, and thousands of helping hands. The organization’s goal of covering Arlington National Cemetery was met in 2014 with the placement of 226,525 wreaths.

The organization offers learning tools, interactive media projects, and opportunities for youth groups to participate in the events. They also work to create opportunities to connect “the Greatest Generation” with the “Generation of Hope”, passing on inspirational stories from World War II veterans to the leaders of the future. Wreaths Across America would not be successful without the help of volunteers, active organizations and the generosity of the trucking industry, which offer invaluable support to WAA’s mission to remember the men and women who served our country, honor our military and their families, and teach our children about our freedom and those who protect it.

New Bern, NC 27th Annual Kennedy Home Toy Run The 27th Annual Kennedy Home Toy Run was wet and cold! Even though the weather wasn’t very nice the turn out was really great for the 38 mile ride from New Bern HD over to the Kennedy Home. “It was well worth it for the kids! We had an awesome time with great friends...we may have been rained on and cold but the warm smiles on kiddos faces is what it’s all about! We decided to stay in New Bern a bit to warm up, dry off, and refuel our bodies,” said Jessie, owner of El Azteca Restaurant in Kinston. From The Mind of Big Ed... I had parked my bike and prepared it to spend the night ‘cause I wasn’t in no shape to ride it home. I pulled my key out of the ignition and from there it’s a blur. When I woke from my drunken slumber the following day I tried to remember my night. I know there was a lot of laughing. There was a tab I couldn’t remember and I couldn’t remember how much it was, and there was a picture frame with a bit of embarrassment and a spot of bloody knuckles, but no remembrance of where I placed my key.
Big Ed aka 2Timer
HAPPY NEW YEAR FOLKS!!! It’s winter time and with that being said, it’s time to work on those sleds. Mine has given me a time. I got an oil leak and I know people say, “well it’s a Harley.” Well that might be acceptable to some folks but as a mechanic it’s just against my principles to know my machine has an issue and I just let it go. I was kinda out of touch with it a bit last year. I didn’t get a whole lot of ride time. Family life and work and trying to find that balance to keep everything flowing at a calm not so stressful pace was my goal and I got to say it’s working. Work life is easing up. Went from being a maintenance mechanic to being an engineer has helped me a bit in that dept. Home front still has a few issues. Got to fix the kitchen floor and bathroom floor and I’m no splinter head. Me and wood just do not mix. I was a welder for years. Me and metal, we just flow together perfectly but I can’t see my wife digging a metal bathroom floor. Even if I polished it up to a shine. Back to Motorcycles... Yeah, last year, I made the mistake of thinking I could hold on to my keys forever. We were about to make a ride for our fallen brother, Daytona, but the weekend before that I had gotten pretty close to some good friends like Jack…Danial’s and Coke. Plus, being surrounded by my brothers from the club next thing I know I was in the spirit world.
32
Folks I’m here to tell ya. I walked that floor and walked that floor looking my key. I never did find it, so I took some advice and went on down to the local Harley shop and ordered me a few sets. I made the ride by the way but I was able to use my bros extra bike. HEY GUMP! THANKS BRO! I was thankful to make the ride even tho I am a f*** up and missed the turn...a few times it was still a good ride. A much needed ride. Preventive maintenance is a must if you are going to ride. Oil changes, air pressure checks on the tires and also checking your tires themselves for wear. Batteries also need to be on the list ‘cause once again my ride was a now show for another ride in early December. I was ready, too. I had gotten everything in order at home to make sure I was ready to ride on a Saturday. I hit the gym first thing that morning, went grocery shopping with my wife and got home just in time to get the winter gear on and hit the road and sure as Sh*t my luck hit again. My battery was dead as sh*t. I had just cracked it on the Wednesday before and put it on the tinder. Yet, the damn thing was dead. I pulled out the meter and got a 11.5 volts...I wasn’t in the best of spirits when I called my Prez to inform him that I wasn’t going to make it.

.Brothehood I sure as hell wasn’t in a joking mood when he replied with the “I knew you won’t going to make it,“ response. Timing is everything. He hit the bullseye right in the nerve. I had to think fast and hang up the phone. My response would have not been cool but hey that’s what bros do. We kick you a bit when you’re down to toughen you the hell up. He called back ‘cause he knew I wasn’t feeling it. He’s a good man. He helped me with a few ideas to check on but deep down we both knew the deal. The bike had collected too much dust from sitting under the shed and we both knew I needed to get my sh*t straight and get to riding again. HEY NASTY< love ya bro. I’m a working and very devoted family man but I got to step back and be me, as well. I got to get some road time. Me and that Harley need to get reacquainted. I got to buy some tires and give her an oil change and freshen her up a bit. We got a new year and it’s time to add some mileage. This is a big year for my club by the way. 10 years! We will be ten years old. We are still young but we’ve all gained some knowledge. We have grown in numbers but we have learned that numbers ain’t everything. Quality in a brother beats numbers any day of the week. In the 8 to almost 9 years of being in the club I’ve seen some changes. We ain’t the club we used to be. We are better. We have really grown close and have really become a family, but I’ll be speaking more of this as our Anniversary draws near. I love you brothers of The UNSPOKEN SONS MC. I’m going to stop here and I will catch up with y’all again soon. I’m a proud brother of UNSPOKEN SONS MC and proud to be a part of the family with Behind Barz Motorcycle Magazine. For those of you who like to hunt, kill, and prepare your own food, we have compiled some of our favorite recipes. We will showcase them for you here. If you do not bag your own game and would rather buy it, there are many fine butcher shops and specialty meat markets that offer rabbit, hare, turkey, venison, duck, goose, quail, pheasant, and other big and small game. So, no excuses! As any Southerner knows, both raccoon and opposum make excellent eating! But neither of these are found in specialty butcher shops or the like. These animals are truly wild. Since a feast of game for most people is not an everyday affair...sad but true...you may substitute other commonly used meats for the ones listed here. We don’t recomment this, though. You ride, don’t you? Let your taste buds go wild, too!
North Carolina Wild Boars/Feral Swine In the early 1900’s, wild boar were introduced from Europe to a private game reserve in Graham County, N.C. Some animals escaped and thrived, spreading to other mountain counties and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The wild boar persisted in western North Carolina and some interbreeding with domestic swine occurred due to free-range farm practices, releases, or escaped domestic stock. In 1979 the wild boar was given the status of game animal by the N.C.Legislature. Wild swine have appeared in other areas of the state due to free-range farm practices and intentional stocking by private individuals. Populations of free-ranging feral swine continue to grow and spread in North Carolina. Feral swine can significantly impact plant communities and wildlife habitat because they root through the ground’s surface in search of food. Feral swine destroy agricultural crops and other property and pose a substantial disease risk for both domestic swine and wildlife. Due to these factors and the invasive nature of feral swine, they are considered to be an undesirable species on North Carolina’s landscape.

“Wild boar”, “feral hogs”, feral swine, and domestic swine are all the same species (Sus scrofa). In 2011 the status of all free ranging swine (including “wild boar” in the historic counties) was changed from a game animal to a nongame animal with no closed hunting season. Thus the recognition of wild boar as a big game animal ended. NCWRC biologists no longer tract the harvest of these animals thorough the big game harvest reporting system. The harvest of feral swine is monitored through our annual hunter harvest survey that provides biologists with an annual estimate of harvest. In counties of North Carolina where “wild boar” historically existed, many people still hunt the feral swine using traditional methods like hunting with hounds. However, across NC people hunt using various methods and at all times of the year. As the range and destructive nature of feral swine has expanded, management efforts have changed from managing a game species to attempting to contain and control the spread of a destructive species across the landscape.

the good news! Resolution Resolution is defined; As a firm grip on a decision to do or not do something. It’s a top priority of determination, to be Resolute. We will all hear it on the new year’s day, my new year’s resolution is to... As we look back over our shoulder down yesteryears road there were some things that flew right by us. We can’t go back now but we can look forward to seeing them again. As I wind back to some kick stand up ride roads last year in my rearview mirror mind, I realize my resolution is to ride more and I am resolutely determined to keep this resolution. Personally I didn’t ride as much as I would have liked to, my health prevented me from some long distance rides. The one’s I remembered though we’re a couple of breakfast rides meeting up with some 15 brothers at a restaurant in Goldsboro. One pack ride back in September was about it...But the couple of rides that have stood out now, and I know that alot of ya can relate to, are those rides that weren’t planned...at least you didn’t plan them ahead of time rides. But they were planned by someone. Am reminiscing on those soul searching get questions answered rides. That ride that speaks to your Spirit saying, “Today’s the day” ride. God knows when you need them, and He has them all planned out for you, He works them in just at the right time. I can’t plan them, seems when I plan a day just for me to ride in advance, that day comes with rain. But when you wake up with nothing to do, He’ll tell ya, ”Today’s the day, let’s ride”. Jesus’ Father told Him that,” Today’s the day” day recorded in by Luke in the new testament, Luke 9:51. With this account, “ when the days drew near for Him to be received up, He set His face as a Flint to go to Jerusalem.”

Flint, meaning “an iron will.” Flint formed from the mineral “ quartz”, the formed Flint is used to start a fire, and the mineral quartz is used to make oscillators. Oscillators are used to covert direct current from a POWER supply to an alternating current SIGNAL! That day Luke recorded that Jesus was resolute with this resolution, not to look back but forward to His Father’s Will. Jesus knew what was going to happen to Him in the days to come, His Father set that future day of, “Today’s the day.” The Father supplied the POWER and Jesus got the SIGNAL! That today’s the day to ride, ride for soul searching questions answered day will come and you’ll know. He will make it the perfect day for you. So, Ride! And ride with this resolution; Know Jesus will be riding with you and He is determined to give you one of the best rides that day and every year! And at the end of the year you’ll be Resolute to ride more with Jesus, for He’s calling you. Jesus said, “Everything has been entrusted to me by my Father. Only the Father knows the Son,and the Father is known only by the son and by those to whom the Son will reveal Him. So then, Come to Me and I will give you rest, all of you who work so hard beneath a heavy yoke. Matthew11:27-28, And verse 29, Biker translation, 29. Ride with Me, it’s a perfect day to ride, and let Me teach you, for I am respectful and humble, and you shall find the answers to the questions for your soul needs. Rest in My Ride for you / Us...
