Some facts about our organization's work for the year 2013: We had 371 volunteers who came through our center. This does not include the many volunteers who work on collection drives and fundraisers at churches, Scout troops and military groups. We mailed 1031 care packages. The postage cost for these packages was over $19,000. We served over 130,000 troops with items that were picked up and taken out of the center, and not mailed. If 20 members of a troop shared a care package, that means over 20,000 troops were served by care packages! This is an awesome job by an awesome team supporting an awesome military. But we cannot do this without YOUR HELP. We need donations of items, and donations of funds for postage. Watch for ideas, and share your projects on our Facebook page for others to be inspired! We filled the truck with goodies for our troops! Now we need to restock the center ASAP!

Defififfiifiant spirits biker brethren MrC Story: Lady D 2nd annual chili cook-off Photoz: Moe Defiant Spirits Biker Brothern MRC held their Chili Cook-off on February 15, 2014 at their new club house. Last year it snowed, this year it rained, but it was not a wash out! This year was at a new location, with new selections of chili; but the same Brothern to serve, to help, and be in unity for Bikers and the community. There were many different kinds of chili to taste test until your stomach was full! There was chili that was hot, mild, special sauce, secret sauces, bean, meat, vegetables and of course the special chili custom simmered by Cornbread was there to enjoy as well. The incognito judges were placed in a dimly lit room to secretly taste the wonderful chili’s and make the difficult decision as to which pot was the best. What a difficult job to be the first to taste the homemade chili’s to your hearts delight before anyone else had the chance. The judges were lucky people to “taste” as much as they wanted right off the top! Slingblade won the Chili Cook-offs First Prize and People’s Choice Trophy. You could say he really put his spicy foot in it! A Second Place Trophy was given to Stephanie and Ray Grimes with a chili that was scent-tastingly delicious!! There is nothing like laughter, smiles, good chili, honor, respect and love for all. DSFFDS

The Nash Community College Foundation is pleased to announce the 7th Annual Jack Laughery Ride for Knowledge will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Rocky Mount Harley-Davidson. The event serves as a tribute to Jack Laughery, the former CEO and chairman of the Hardee’s restaurant chain along with his wife, Helen and their love of motorcycling and support of higher education. All proceeds from the motorcycle ride benefit the Helen and Jack Laughery Honorary Scholarship Fund at Nash Community College. The Helen and Jack Laughery Honorary Scholarship was established in 2004 to recognize the Laugherys’ philanthropic endeavors and outstanding leadership for the betterment of the Nash/Rocky Mount area. This fund provides annual scholarships to help deserving nontraditional students who return to college to enhance their marketable job skills. Fifty scholarships have been awarded since the scholarship’s establishment. Jack Laughery aimed to make the community better, and this event is a tribute to his legacy. In many ways, he may be remembered as a “Hometown Hero” for the economic development of the greater Rocky Mount area. Jack was a Patriot who loved his Country, enjoyed motorcycling and truly valued education. In addition to Jack and the Laughery Family, the event honor our local hometown heroes. This group includes first responders, law enforcement officers, firefighters, medical emergency professionals, and military veterans. These individuals dedicate their lives to ensure the community’s well-being. The ride is rain or shine and registration will begin at 9:00am and the ride will begin at 11:00am. The cost is $20 per rider and includes breakfast, lunch catered by Doug Sauls, a raffle ticket, entertainment, a commemorative pin, live music and a parade-style ride escorted by the Nash County Sheriff’s Office through scenic Nash County.

All bikes are welcome.

your Health Behind Barz

Doctor Visits Doctor visits are usually made when we do not feel the best. I do not know of one person who makes an appointment, and pays big bucks just to sit and talk to their doctor as a friendly gesture. When you have an appointment remember that the doctor is using his education and experience to do their best to help you. The doctor will appreciate some information as to what they need to do, not just hear I feel bad and need some help. When you see your doctor let them know what has changed since you last saw them. Have you started new medicines, had a bad reaction to some medications, have a new diagnosis like diabetes, high blood pressure, what your allergies are. They may have your chart but they need to hear it from you as not all the information may be in your chart, especially if you visit other doctors or go to the Emergency room for care.

photos: Moe, Bud, & Ernie

If you are in pain, do your best to describe your pain. Do not say “I just hurt”. Let them know where you hurt, how long you have been hurting, point to the place you hurt. Try to give a verbal description of the pain like, stabbing, burning, pins and needles, aching, numbing, feels like a knife cutting me. Give a level or rating of the pain on a scale from 1 to 10 with 1 being just a moderate little pain you can tolerate without medication to the number 10 being it hurts like H*** and you need medication. Let them know what you have tried to make the pain go away, like did you take medications; try a hot or cold pack. Do you know what started the pain; did you lift your bike when it was down and you felt a stabbing, intense, pain in your lower back as you lifted it up. Tell them. Tell them if you have had a fever, diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, ear ringing, can’t move a joint, chest pain, hard time breathing, can’t sleep, lump or bumps on your body, anything that is not normal for you. When the doctor is finished examining you, ask some question of them. Ask them what the name of your condition is. Explain to you what it is, why they think you have this problem, how long will the problem last. Ask will there be anything you need to change in eating habits, exercise, or stress. Can your problem be cured or will you have to live with it. If the doctor gives you a prescription to be filled, don’t just take the paper and walk out. Ask some questions, you are paying the doctor, get your money’s worth. What is the name of the medication (as I am sure you can’t read it)? How does it work? How long are you to take the medication, when to take the medication? What do you do if the medication does not seem to help? What are the side effect’s you need to be aware of? When will you begin to notice a change in your condition? Are there foods you do not need to eat while taking the medication? Is there a generic medication that you can afford? Do they have any print outs for your condition that you can read and learn from? Doctor visits can be helpful in a hurtful situation. Be sure to share and ask questions to get the information you need. Ride safe, be blessed and keep the rubber on the road!

Good tymes club 30th anniversary If you have ever been to Good Tymes in Rocky Mount, N.C., you know it has been around for a long time... Horace and Barbara Joyner have been the owners for 30 years! I can remember going there before I was even old enough to drink ( I was the DD, of course!).

All My Rowdy Friends

Barbara and Staff

Back in October, 2013, Good Tymes Club had their 30th Anniversary Party. In conjunction with their anniversary, they also raised over $1,000 for cancer research and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. It was one massive party with standing room only inside and a packed lot outside! Horace and Barbara Joyner sure know how to throw a rockin’ party! They had live music by: “Mark & John Bunn”, “Speakeasy” and “All My Rowdy Friends”! There was a bike show, corn hole tournament, door prizes, raffles and a 50/50 drawing. Not only that, they had a Civil War Reenactment by the 13th NC Latham’s Battery. These guys wore their Civil War uniforms and fired a huge and VERY loud canon! It was so loud that it rattled the windows of the bar! Everyone loved it! Even though there was rain throughout the evening at various times, I don’t think anyone really cared. They were having way to much fun! Horace also had hot chopped BBQ sandwiches during the day and commemorative t-shirts were sold, with part of the profits going to St. Jude. Horace and Barbara would like to extend a special thanks to: Southern Sin MC, 13th NC Latham Battery, Chris & Gwen and the GTC bartenders, staff and friends!

Never Judge A Bo Interviewed by: Moe photos: Moe

ook By It's Cover Bikers are judged all the time simply because of the way they dress, their tattoos, maybe even because of their long hair and beards and certainly because they ride a motorcycle. It’s a fact of life that people sum up other people simply by the way they look. It’s not right. But if people can just look a little deeper, especially with bikers, they will find bikers give more to society than any other group. Many would give the shirt off their back or the last dollar in their pocket to help someone else...and they do! We are all writing our own books...the past, the present and the future is in the works. The dust jacket may be a little dirty, grungy or completely torn off but it’s what’s inside that counts! That old adage is true...Never Judge A Book By It’s Cover! You know the guy - the one that rides up and parks his motorcycle, walks fearlessly into the old bar, clad in his black leathers and colors. The one that opens up his jacket, revealing tattooed arms, tosses a few bills on the bar, which the bartender accepts and places a shot in front of him. You catch a glimpse of the bikers devil-may-care look in his eyes before quickly turning your head away. You’ve just seen a BADAZZZZZ....... Deuce, aka Robin Stroud, is just such a man, but with a heart of gold, and one that would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. I can still remember the first time I ever met Deuce. Not only did “ badazz” come to mind, but a few other names that I can’t print, did too. But as the saying goes, “Never judge a book by its cover.” The inside of that book is a whole different story.

The youngest son seems to be following in his Dad’s footsteps. “My youngest son is as much a part of the club as I am.” “The club is my family, they are my Brothers, and its my life.” I asked Nasty, the President of USSMC, if he had anything to say about Deuce? His words summed it up. “Deuce is my Brother, he is truthfully loyal, he speaks his mind and he is never to busy to help anyone when they need help.” So the next time you come across someone and you think, yep that’s a badazz, and you turn and walk away, you might want to take a few minutes and get to know the inside of that book. You might just be surprised at what you will find on those pages. I know I was.....

Deuce has been a Biker for 26 years. He is currently the Vice President of Unspoken Sons MC in Lenoir County, and has held that position for almost 2 years. He has been with the MC since its origin in 2010 and he is one of the Original 10 that formed the MC. He currently works at MJE Telestructure, as the Manager of telecommunications. He also worked 6 years at a dealership selling motorcycles in Wilmington, NC. He has had 8 motorcycles since he was age 18. and he currently has 2 awesome bikes that he rides. Deuce has raised two sons on his own, that are age 14 and 21. They are both fine young men.

75th Myrtle Beach Bike Week Expec

May 9-18 Milestone Event Commemorate

Myrtle Beach, SC – March 1, 2014 Organizers and promoters of the Myrtle Beach Bike Week Spring Rally are anticipating a substantial increase in attendance during the upcoming 10-day rally (May 9th – 18th). Steeped in tradition and the second oldest motorcycle rally in the world, the Myrtle Beach Bike Week’s spring and fall rallies in 2013 were hugely successful…with most bike week businesses seeing a 20-25% increase in attendance and business. Local authorities and media reported a significant increase in attendance from previous years. The upcoming Spring Rally commemorates the 75th Myrtle Beach Bike Week. Local organizers, promoters, and bike rally venues initiated promotion of this milestone rally immediately after the 2013 Fall Rally and expect the 2014 event to be the biggest rally since 2008. The current version of the Myrtle Beach Bike Week rallies extends along the Carolinas’ coast from Shallotte, NC to Georgetown, SC (often called the Grand Strand) with the municipalities of Murrells Inlet and North Myrtle Beach featured as the largest rally locales. Last year, more venues and rally sites stepped up to be active Myrtle Beach Bike Week players including Myrtle Beach Speedway, The Boathouse, Bucksport Marina, Big Tuna (Georgetown), Murphy’s Law locations, the bars & restaurants along the Murrells Inlet Marsh Walk, Pirate’s Cove, ACME Bar & Grill, and Rockin’ Hard Saloon. More are expected to participate in the upcoming spring rally, including Crooked Floor Tavern, Harley’s Roadhouse, Island Bar & Grill, and Dick’s Last Resort…joining traditional Bike Week hot-spots like Suck Bang Blow, Beaver Bar, Spokes & Bones, House of Blues, Myrtle Beach HarleyDavidson’s two locations, Coastal Victory Indian Motorcycles, Captain Poo’s, and Barefoot Landing. These businesses that cater to the visiting biker crowd have put out the “welcome mat” to bikers all over the eastern seaboard. A number of these businesses continue to make a more ambitious and pro-active effort to deliver and communicate reasons for larger biker crowds to return.

24

With more venues and rally site options spread throughout the area, it will result in a more enjoyable experience for bikers, relief in Bike Week congestion, and lesser impact on the area’s 314,000 year-round residents. Organizer and promoter, Bike Week MB, a website and social media resource for the Myrtle Beach rallies, has taken an active role in promoting and organizing Myrtle Beach Bike Week venues, events, and contests. Bike Week MB’s “Cruise the LOOP” program has successfully encouraged bikers to cruise around the greater Myrtle Beach area to visit the newer and non-traditional rally sites. The “Cruise the LOOP” promotion and Poker Runs invite bikers to venues along the southern loop (Highway 17, Highway 701, and Highway 501). A “north-end” loop program is being organized for venues and rally sites north of the city of Myrtle Beach for this spring’s rally. Bike Week MB’s Mark Krom comments, “On the heels of the highly successful 2013 rallies, we are seeing a spiked increase in interest from our followers, the biker population, and vendors to return to the Myrtle Beach Bike Weeks for 2014. We see significant growth potential in attendance in years to come”. Popular biker bar, Suck Bang Blow’s Bill Barber stated, “These are exciting times for the Myrtle Beach Bike Weeks as we see a renewed interest in the rallies. In celebrating the 75th Myrtle Beach Bike Week, we expect a large turnout for this spring. At SBB, we’ve made capital improvements to handle the larger expected crowds…including a new rooftop sky bar…and a 20 foot high walkway that connects our main building to our vendor building. This will improve our traffic flow and make watching our famous biker games and contests more enjoyable. We have big things planned for this rally”.

rates 2nd Oldest Bike Rally in the World Myrtle Beach Speedway has returned as a major Myrtle Beach Bike Week player and will be holding their second annual Myrtle Beach BikeFest featuring live music, exhibitions, vendors, and new this year, four racing events during the rally, including an AMA motorcycle race card and the Wheels of Destruction Thrill Show. The speedway’s General Manager, Steve Zacharias stated, “We’re excited about the 2014 version of our BikeFest rally. In our first year back, we had an excellent turn-out for the first rally on the speedway grounds in years. This year, we’re adding four exciting auto and motorcycle race events that should generate even more interest and attendance!” A new rally site will be making its debut during the spring rally. Crooked Floor Tavern, located on Old Highway 17 in the Marsh Walk area of Murrells Inlet will be hosting the first Marsh Walk Bike Rally on its 1.4 acre property. Crooked Floor’s program includes vendors, live music, bike shows, and entertainment. Said Crooked Floor owner, Mike Foster, “Crooked Floor will fill a needed role as an additional rally site for the large biker crowd that congregates in Murrells Inlet. Just down the road from Suck Bang Blow and Beaver Bar, we have a great location and a great plan to host a big Bike Week crowd. We look forward to establishing the Crooked Floor as must stop during the rallies”. In addition to more rally sites, venues, and vendors, another welcome addition to the Myrtle Beach Bike Weeks is Behind Barz Motorcycle Magazine. ~ Road Rage ~

Last year was a bad year for motorcyclists and road rage. In December 2013, a Tennessee man driving an SUV was charged with two counts of attempted murder after a particularly heinous incident. After Rodney Lee Scott nearly hit two bikers, they waved their arms to make sure he saw them. In return, Scott made obscene gestures, stopped his SUV in the middle of the road, then backed up to hit one of the bikers. A witness stopped to help, then, with the motorcyclists, followed Scott to his home, where they called 911. Before the police could arrive, Scott came out of the house shooting. One of the bikers was shot three times in the back and once in the wrist.

The Scott incident followed the highly publicized incident in which a motorcycle social group—the Hollywood Stuntz— stopped an SUV that had bumped into the back of one of the bikes, then beat and slashed the driver. In an attempt to get away, the SUV driver ran over one of the bikers, leaving him paralyzed for life. Road rage is often triggered by what you see or experience on the road, such as being in stop-and-go traffic, watching someone else driving too fast or changing lanes without warning, or being tailgated.

No matter where you are or where you’re going, road rage can affect you, whether you’re the victim or the rager.

~

Aggressive driving includes speeding, driving too fast for conditions, improper lane changes, tailgating, and improper passing. If you’re experiencing other life stress—being late for work, having a fight with your spouse, or anything else that gets under your skin—it can make road rage more likely. Many people who lose control lose don’t recognize how dangerous their behavior is in the moment. Instead, they see that someone disrespected them or did something “stupid,” and they feel it is their mission to set the other guy straight. It becomes almost a battle of good versus evil, and of course the other guy is always wrong…and he needs to be punished. That’s how road rage can go from a minor question of manners to people being run over or shot. Once a person is in a full-on rage, all rationality is gone.

By David Henson Managing partner of HensonFuerst Attorneys.

And if the other driver reacts in any way, the rage builds on itself, snowballing until someone is in the hospital or being booked for murder. The next time you’re tempted to tailgate, brake without warning, or weave in and out of traffic… or when you see someone else behaving badly: REMEMBER, that driving is not a power struggle; it is a way to get from one place to another. BREATHE. Relax your grip on the handle bars and take a deep breath. The traffic and your anger won’t last forever. DON’T TAKE IT PERSONALLY. You don’t know who’s behind the wheel of the other vehicle, or what challenges they are facing today. DON’T REACT. If another driver shows signs of road rage, or even if they are simply doing something you don’t like, don’t show any physical reaction. That means no hand gestures, and no eye contact, which can be interpreted as a sign of aggression. STAY IN CONTROL of your own temper. DON’T HONK. A horn is for avoiding danger, not for expressing your opinion or displeasure at other drivers. Even a “light tap” might cause another motorist to fly into a rage.

While it may sound dramatic, your choices on the road could save your life. Literally.

Been There, S An Interview

By: Chewy (Biker Dog)

Behind Barz recently interviewed one of our writers, Chewy. All of us here at BB Mag just LOVE Chewy and his driver, Butch! They both do so much for our communities, our soldiers, our fellow bikers and spreading the great word of our Savior, Jesus Christ! Hopefully you have been reading about their adventures for the last few years, here in BB. They put more miles on a bike than most bikers we have ever met and it’s always for a greater purpose ~ to help their fellow man.

Chewy ~ Have an enjoyable, but safe, St Patricks Day.

Chewy: (Ears perked) Rrrrooooo!

Chewy: I was sick. The first thing I got was something called a bath, and my driver and his son pulled off over 60 little bugs they call ticks. He took me to Doc Bailey (my veterinarian in Apex) and he treated me for intestinal parasites and a bad case of heart worms. While on the heart worm treatment, I couldn’t take my driver for any walks for about three months.

BB: How did you and your driver meet?

BB: So, when did you first ride on a bike?

Chewy: I somehow ended up in doggie death row and I was on my last day. This guy comes into the SPCA and he looked like he needed help. I went over to him, stayed with him, and I decided to let him adopt me.

Chewy: It was in March 2008, I think. A big box was delivered to our house, and it was my seat. My driver put it on my Harley. When he went in the house to get something, he came back into the garage and I had already mounted the bike and I was sitting in my seat ready to go.

Here is a portion of that interview.

BB: CHEWEEEEEEEEEEE!

BB: Is that when you took your first ride? Chewy: Woof, but in a car. He put me in something called a crate in the back seat. I was farting a lot in the car, and my driver lowered the window every time I made that stinky smell. So I figured I’ll just keep making the smells so that the window would stay down. BB: What was it like when you first arrived in your home?

30

BB: How long was it until your first group ride? Chewy: My first group ride was with the Raleigh Harley Owners Group in May 2008. We rode for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation with several hundred bikes. I like that organization and we also rode for PBTF in Asheville, NC and in Tampa, FL.

CHEWY The Biker Dog: w

w With Chewy

BB: You mentioned riding across the USA. Was that your longest trip?

BB: What’s the fastest you’ve ridden? Chewy: I rode three laps on Charlotte Motor Speedway and reached over 100 miles per hour on each lap. When I took my driver across the USA a couple of years ago, we rode a whole day at 80 miles per hour cuz that was the speed limit. That was fun! There was a time that I felt like I was going faster.

Chewy: Woof! I rode across the USA twice. The first time was with Thomas and my driver. The second time we started solo, but on the return we came up on Tom Lystrup from California and rode with him to Rolling Thunder.

BB: Faster than 100 miles per hour? Chewy: Woof! I took Thomas Sanders and my driver across the USA and we had headwinds between Amarillo and Albookerkee, New Mexico (I can’t spell that). When we arrived at a hotel for the night, we heard on the TV that those were 60 mph headwinds with gusts higher than that. With the speed limit, I think my doggy math sez I was doin’ about 130. Chewy ~ Please spread the word about Bowe Bergdahl.

Chewy Tongue in the wind!

BB: How many miles have you ridden? Chewy: More than I can count on my paws. My driver sez I’m close to 85,000.

Chewy: Woof! I rode across the USA twice. The first time was with Thomas and my driver. The second time we started solo, but on the return we came up on Tom Lystrup from California and rode with him to Rolling Thunder. BB: Have you had any other long rides? Chewy: I’ve been to South Texas and to Tampa, Florida. I don’t know if this counts, but I’ve also ridden three “Charlie Mike” rides with the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association NC 15-1. These were certified rides by the IronButt Association and each was 1,000 miles in 24 hours. They rode in honor of military groups, such as Vietnam veterans, Korean War veterans and World War II veterans. 31

Chewy ~ Iraq Afghanistan War Memorial, Irvine, CA.

BB: What do you look at when you ride? Chewy: I sniff the air a lot. I have a helmet camera. We were on a Patriot Guard mission the first time my driver used it on my helmet. He was surprised by what caught my attention. He could see that I watched over 30 fire hydrants go by, and dumpsters, and port-o-jons. BB: What was the coldest you’ve ridden? Chewy: I’ve been on the saddle riding the interstate with temperatures in the teens. I’ve been caught in sleet a few times, and that hurts my snout.

Chewy: My driver has a thermometer on the handle bar, so we have a pretty good idea about the temp. I’ve been in heat hotter than 110 degrees. When we were in Austin, TX a few years ago, it was over 105 and humid. That felt hotter than Bullhead City, AZ when we riding with temps about 115. We took a wrong turn somewhere while trying to stay on Route 66 and ended up in the Mojave Desert low on fuel. Try riding in the heat with a fur coat. It’s HOT! I wear a loose white t-shirt in the summer that helps and I have a swamp vest that keeps me cool when we’re not rolling.

BB: Did you bark to your driver to stop?

BB: I heard you and your driver were hit a few years ago.

Chewy: Nope. I just tucked in behind him.

Chewy: Woof!

BB: What’s the hottest temp you’ve ridden in.

BB: Were you hurt?

If you are interested in seeing more pictures, please visit my Facebook page.

Been There, Sniffed That Chewy: I came out of it OK. But word got out that I was killed. One of my HOG friends said that a fellow HOG friend from the north asked if we were hurt, and a friend from the south said “Chewy’s day-yed”. I think that’s how it went from my dad being hurt to my being dead. I think that got cleared up real quick. BB: Do you have a long ride planned for this year? Chewy: We haven’t dogficially announced it yet, but I have my paws crossed for another ride across the USA. My driver has already asked for unpaid time off for this ministry mission. I hope we will know in February so we can plan and get my bike ready. BB: If you go, what’s the mission? Chewy: We want to call it “In God We Trust”. It’s not a very creative mission name, but the people who know about our previous trips know that God blessed us and continues to bless us. BB: Where do you want to go? Chewy: We’re thinking about the first half of the mission being in honor of our military service members, past and present. We want to visit the Iraq Afghanistan War Memorial in Irvine, California. That’s what my driver and I call it, but I think the real name is Northwood Gratitude and Honor Memorial, if you want to doogle it on the internet. That Memorial was our destination on our previous two missions. On the way back, we’re riding for Bowe Bergdahl, who has been held as a Prisoner of War since June 30, 2009. We met Bowe’s dad in 2012. Ol’ Bill “Jammer” and I gave our POW flag to Mr. Bergdahl after we flew that flag across the USA. Mr. Bergdahl gave the flag back to us and asked us to keep flying it until his son returns home. We continue to fly that flag, we spread the word about Bowe being held as a POW, and we ask people to pray for Bowe and his family. Monica Cash keeps us stocked with Bowe bracelets that we give to people we meet to help them remember Bowe. BB: Chewy, it looks like you found your purpose! That’s all the time we have for now. Thank you so much for barking with me. Chewy: Woof! Keep your tongue in the wind!

A&E NETWORK BEGINS PRODUCTION ON NEW ORIGINA STARRING BIG SMO PRODUCED BY BROWNSTONE E Many of you are familiar with Big Smo...he has graced the pages of Behind Barz Mag many times! He has had a few concerts right here in Eastern, N.C. He shot a music video here and the BB Crew were a part of that! He has been on the TV show, Bar Rescue and on Lizard Lick Towing which is based out of N.C. Now he is going to get his own TV show! NASHVILLE, TN – Big Smo, a.k.a. Hick Ross and Boss of the Stix, will now release his debut album Kuntry Livin’ on June 3rd on Warner Bros. / Elektra Records. Officially in stores the same week as CMA Music Festival 2014, the album is just the start of what's to come this year from Big Smo. Currently on the road playing shows and visiting radio stations across the country, the country ‘hick-hop’ artist is also starring in his own original A&E Network reality series produced by Brownstone Entertainment called "Big Smo" (working title). Giving an exclusive look into his larger-than-life personality, the series will follow Smo taking his unique style of music to new heights with the support of lifelong friends, loyal fans and most importantly, his beloved family. Being shot in his home state of Tennessee, production on the ten half-hour episodes began in February with a premiere expected this summer. With over 15.2 million views on YouTube and already selling over 150,000 digital tracks to date, Big Smo has developed a sound and genre all his own containing pulse-pounding beats, passionate vocals and electrifying guitars set to lyrical subject matter that’s pure back-country reality, establishing the Tennessee native as “Hick Ross” among his followers. The self-proclaimed Boss of The Stix’ latest EP, Backwoods Whiskey -- currently available on iTunes -- features a remix of “Kickin’ It In Tennessee,” produced by Battleroy (Bruno Mars, Eminem). The high energy song, co-written by Battle, Casey Beathard and Smo, served as last season’s theme song for the NFL’s Tennessee Titans. The four-track EP gives fans a sample of the sound and vision that has brought Big Smo to the musical forefront as well as a taste of what to expect from his forthcoming debut album, Kuntry Livin’. Born John Smith in the small town of Unionville, Tennessee, Big Smo is a country boy turned charismatic `hick-hop’ artist (a blend of country, Southern rock and hip-hop) who just signed to Warner Bros. Records. While music is Smo’s lifelong passion, he’s a family man first and foremost. Surrounded by a lively extended entourage including his mother, childhood buddies, long-time girlfriend and two young daughters, Smo is driven to stay grounded and succeed in a business known for hard living. As he gears up to debut his first major-label album, Kuntry Livin’, Smo is continuously challenged to balance the tireless life of a touring musician with the demands of his family responsibilities. When not out on the road, Smo’s on his farm in Unionville in the role he holds most dear, that of a good and present father to his daughters and supportive partner to Whitney, the love of his life. Through it all, Smo’s determination, die-hard fans (known affectionately as his Kinfoke) and deep Southern family roots keep him going on his wild ride to fame. https://twitter.com/TheRealBigSmo https://www.facebook.com/bigsmo

hello my happy riders from the mind of big ed

Hey people... I hope by the time you all read this, the temps are in the 70’s and 80’s. I just made a ride that was so cold that frost was on my cutt when we made it back to the house. Not only cold...but also, rain. Put it this way, I couldn’t find my fun twig and giggle berries when I took off my clothes to get warm. But Man! It was fun. You really love riding when you ride thru stuff like that. You feel the cold wettness burning your legs and Me, I try to fool my mind by drifting into my happy place. Its not cold rain... it’s a hot summer day. Yea, I’m riding with my shorts on and it’s the hot sun giving me a tan...but...You can only fool your self so much though. Especially when my boots fill up with cold water. Then the mind games go and you start focusing on the destination. What I did like about the whole experience is my brothers riding with me. How we all had that “WOW! I’m a dumbazz riding in the cold rain!” look on our faces. You can’t help but laugh on the inside as people pass us by and their nose pressing against the car windows. But that’s what makes us bikers. The love we bikers feel for being on two wheels and the freedom you feel in your soul.

Yea...if you love golf...you chase your balls around all day...wow...so awesome...NOT! If you love fishing...you go around smelling like fish...great...two thumbs up...NOT! Being a biker is feeling the wind and seeing truely how wonderful America is! Sign me up for that! The only thing on earth that can come close to understanding this love for the wind is a dog when they hang their head out of a car window. And when they do...don’t they look happy? So, burn the tread off them tires and see what God has created for us. It’s a black top road to a happy horizon...and I will be seeing you in the wind... Yall be safe out dar... Your bro, Big Ed

They began riding in the Globe, then expanding to MX jumping, and now the Wall of Death. The WALL OF DEATH is their passion, and allows them to carry on a tradition of board track style racing that is nearly extinct.
