Blue Knights NCXXI 2015 Easter Basket Event By Michael Gallina Jr. Mix up some respect for our elders, some good old fashion southern hospitality, a few hundred Easter baskets, and some roaring motorcycles. We now have The Blue Knights Chapter NCXXI 2015 Easter Basket Event! On Friday April 3rd the members and their families got together put constructed 476 Easter baskets. Items like fruit, deodorant, brushes, tissues and some other misc. goodies overflowed inside some beautifully decorated baskets. April 4th the trailers were loaded up and the roar of motorcycles was heard. The Easter baskets were delivered to 5 elderly assisted living homes and care facilities in Tarboro, Rocky Mount, and Nashville. A few of our own members got to meet some old friends and mentors/teachers who lived there. It was quite an honor to serve them that day. This even once again proved that the motto “There are no strangers, only friends you haven’t met.” holds strong and true! “There is more to us than guns and cuffs, We really are community oriented.” The Blue Knights is a world wide Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, dedicated to serving our comunity.

Motor Maid News Riding in the Breeze story: Diane Dixon S.C. Motor Maid

SC Motor Maids Ride in to McCormick, South Carolina for Riding in the Breeze weekend On Friday, April 17, Motor Maids across South Carolina were packing their bikes and getting ready for an adventurous weekend at the Hickory Knob resort in McCormick, South Carolina. Our first “Riding in the Breeze” weekend was scheduled and we were ready to ride! Rain was predicted and showers were among us, but it didn’t dampen our spirit for a beautiful ride through South Carolina to McCormick. When I arrived at the Hickory Knob resort, I was not disappointed. It was an absolute beautiful ride into the park taking the rolling roads alongside the beautiful golf course. The hotel room was very nice and poolside! Rain would keep me from enjoying it this year, but next year will be a different story! Once checked in, several of us made our way to the resort restaurant. As luck would have it, it was seafood buffet night! We sat down and started to enjoy our dinner, watching as more and more of our members arrived. As night approached most of our members had arrived safely and we all had a little get together in one of the hotel rooms to chat about the days’ events and the ride in.

Ride through Hickory.

Most of the heavy rain came during Friday night. We awoke to clearing, but cloudy skies. Everyone suited up for our lunch ride to Abbeville, a great town about thirty minutes away from the resort. We headed out and had a very nice ride into Abbeville. When we arrived on Main Street the town was bustling with visitors as a wonderful French Festival was in full swing. Abbeville was a quaint, beautiful town and everyone we met was extremely friendly! Our group had a delicious lunch at the Village Grill. After eating we all set out to explore downtown and all the shops we had seen walking to the restaurant. What a grand afternoon of fun! Evening was setting in and some showers were on the horizon so a few of us headed back to the resort while others stayed the evening to continue shopping and have dinner. As I rode back, I thought of what great adventures and memories riding a motorcycle brings. If not for this weekend trip, what lovely places I would not have seen and kind people I would not have met. Sunday morning we all left out early to stay ahead of the rain. The ride Ladies with their bikes in Abbeville. back home was filled with new ideas of where to travel next. If you have a motorcycle, don’t waste a minute. Feyetteville Field of Honor For ten years in the middle of May, the Airborne and Special Operations Museum and the Fayetteville Downtown Alliance set the Field of Honor in Fayetteville. From the middle of May until the end of June a field of 1,000 flags flies beautifully. Rolling Thunder NC Chapter 1 always assists in the setting of the field and the posting of the flags for ten honorees each year. This year one of the honorees was Corporal William A. Buck, Jr., a Recon Marine killed in Vietnam, and a brother of a Rolling Thunder Chapter 1 member. The other nine men all heroes from every branch and well decorated as well. The remaining flags in the field are dedicated by family and loved ones "in honor" or "in memory" of someone. There are POW/ MIA flags posted by each branch military flag to remind the nation of our need to leave no service person behind. Making a visit to Fayetteville, be sure and visit the Field of Honor and the NC Veterans Park directly across the street. This living display of heroism flies as a patriotic tribute and honors all who are serving, those that have served and those that have made the ultimate sacrifice.

your Health Behind Barz

Fingernails

Len 91 years old!

Our fingernails are a window to our bodies’ health. Changes in the look, shape, or color of our finger/toe nails may indicate a disorder somewhere in our body. Fingernails are made of protein, keratin and sulfur. They grow about .05 to 1.2 millimeters a week. In mammals, the growth rate of nails is related to the length of the outermost finger bones. Thus, in humans, the nail of the index finger grows faster than that of the little finger; and fingernails may grow up to four times faster than toenails. Deep transverse grooves known as Beau’s lines may form across the nails (not along the nail from cuticle to tip) and are usually a natural consequence of aging, though they may result from disease. Discoloration, thinning, thickening, brittleness, splitting, grooves, small white spots, receded lunula (white moon shape at the bottom of your nail), clubbing (convex), flatness, spooning (concave) can indicate illness in other areas of the body, nutrient deficiencies, drug reaction or poisoning, or merely local injury. Nails can also become thickened (onychogryphosis), loosened (onycholysis), infected with fungus (onychomycosis) or degenerate (onychodystrophy). Some abnormally thick nails might be due to the blood not circulating properly in the vascular system in your arms or legs. Nails can dry out, just like skin. They can also peel, break, and be infected. Toe nail infections can be caused or exacerbated by dirty socks, specific types of aggressive exercise, tight footwear, and walking unprotected in an unclean environment. The best way to care for your nails is to trim them regularly. Clean your nails while washing your hands. Pay attention to your fingernails and those of your loved ones. Speak to a medical professional if you have concerns and they look differently than they have in the past. Be neat about your hands and feet and be blessed to keep your kneez in the breeze.

DHMC RAT rides win big at hog 1st annual bike show New Bern, NC-

story & photos: Tracey Stones

The Dead Headz Motorcycle Club, Pamlico County, NC showed up in Craven County earlier this month at New Bern Harley Davidson for the Spring Open House and their HOG Chapter’s First Annual Bike Show where they made a clean sweep of the competition with a couple of rat rides. There were several classes in the competition and most were well represented; especially the touring class. In all there were more than 30 entries and three awards were given for each class and one grand prize trophy was awarded for Best in Show. There were several trikes and classics, some sportsters, many touring editions, several showed up for the metric class and three rat bikes all registered. Winner of the top prize for the Rat Class went to an Active Duty Marine who is currently deployed. Manny, DHMC Vice President, entered fellow Dead Head, Primate’s bike in the competition. When it won Best Rat, the group accepted his trophy collectively. Primate’s bike is a 1998 Honda Shadow A.C.E. 750. He bought it new from the Honda dealer in New Bern when he was a LCPL. The transition of it becoming an award winning show piece started in around 2000 after some guy backed into it outside the barA proud day for the DHMC Standing with racks when he was a CPL. He trophies: Manny and Breeze, kneeling are said the first modification was, “I Trap and NOS cut up the old fender and bobbed it back. It just went on from there.” In the end, only two of the three rats won a prize for the class because Breeze rode off with the Best in Show for his Rat. He purchased the 2001 Johnny Pag a few years ago, after dumping it a couple times, it morphed into the masterpiece that it is today. A motorcycle surrounded with his personality, eclectic and unique. It was a great day for these warriors.

from the mind of big ed Unknown soldier... I’m typing this to you to thank you for what you gave. I hope you travel to heaven but please don’t look back. I wouldn’t want you to see what you gave your life for. Remember when... You held your hand over your heart in first grade and looked at the flag. Think how awesome it was to hear the whole class say it. You felt pride in your heart and even felt it more when you said under God! Sorry, God is offensive now better not do that. Remember when... You opened the door for some one walking in to a store that was behind you...and they said thank you? Sorry, respect and courtesy is gone now days.

Hello you Happy Riders!!

Remember when... The church bell would ring and you would hold your Daddy’s hand as you looked down at your dress shoes shining and your shirt tucked in and your belt was buckled and you felt so good as your Daddy smiled at you with pride? Sorry, there ain’t many daddys anymore. Crystal meth took them away.

Ever since I was a small kid I’ve always been patriotic. Maybe it was the old Bugs Bunny cartoons when Bugs was in the Army or maybe old John Wayne movies I watched as a kid...but...When I met my Blood Father for the first time at the age of thirteen that’s when I really had the love of this country sink into my heart. My Dad served our country in Vietnam. He would tell me about the war stories and the things he had seen and had done. I held on to every word! I knew in my heart I wanted to be in the military. When I was seventeen years old, just days before I turned eighteen, I went to join the Marines but when my Dad found out he made me promise I wouldn’t because he had gotten cancer from Agent Orange and had less then a year to live. Out of love and respect I followed my Daddy’s wishes but still regret not joining. Sometimes tho, i sit and watch the news and see people and how they treat this country and it hurts my heart to see how they can be this way. Knowing how my Daddy felt and knowing how his friends died before him on the battle field, it just kills me to see it. So, I wrote this letter to all the Unknown Soldiers out there... who have gave their lives for this country. I hope people read it and change their ways. I shared this on my Facebook page but hope it may reach more here in Behind Barz.

Remember when... The stores closed on Sundays and the love of God was above the love of money. Families would hang out with each other and throw horse shoes and watched football and then they would all sit down and look at each other and pass the mashed potatoes? Sorry, cell phones have taken the place of seeing each other face to face at the supper table. Remember when... You held the American flag high and you loved this country and the people around you loved it too...and didn’t want to live off the government and working for a living filled you with pride? Sorry, they burn the flag now and living off the sweat of others is what people call making living! Remember when... the President held this country’s values higher than his own? Sorry, the PRESIDENT is more worried over his own race agendas and what TV he can smile from. I’m sorry unknown solider. You gave so much for what people now days thank so little of! I wish we could live in a country that was worth the precious blood you gave! I wish people would love this country the same way you did! So rest in peace unknown solider. You are in a much better place.

2nd Annual

Michelle’s Ride

On March 24, 2013 I lost my daughter Michelle Ann Lam Gordon to a seizure she had at home alone. She was only 30 years old and had dealt with epilepsy and seizures since she was 8. While she lived here in N C she visited the Epilepsy Institute of North Carolina and was attended by Dr. J. Christine Dean, M. D. They assisted Michelle with many things that helped to make her life better. She never complained about her epilepsy and lived her life to the fullest. For the second year in a row we have gotten together to celebrate her life and support epilepsy research. We had a beautiful day this year and raised $2,555 for the cause.

American Legion Riders, Post 11, Dudley, North Carolina, held a benefit ride for Ms. Sylvia Britt on June 6, 2015. Ms. Britt is a survivor of Breast Cancer, yet the cancer returned to challenge her lungs. She is a woman who has shown love to all the people she meets. She has been a cosmetologist for many decades and has made many ladies in the Grantham area beautiful for all their special occasions as well as helping with the daily beauty routine. If there was a need among any of her customers or their families she was there to help, encourage and show love. She has never been known to say an unkind word to anyone, and had the skill to cook up some good ole southern grub to help those in need. This time though, the love, care and concern has been returned to her in a small portion. Bikers met and rode in her honor. Raffles were held, door prizes were given away and a silent auction held for some wonderful donated items. The American Legion Riders also sold some fantastic BBQ chicken plates with all the fixin’s. The American Legion Riders have the honor to help those in need with acts of service. They have great hearts of love for our country and the people who live here in the U S A. Thank-you American Legion for what you do. Salute to all.

~ When Can the Government Take Your Land? ~ By David Henson Managing partner of HensonFuerst Attorneys.

As a biker, you love the freedom of a wide-open road. But that freedom loses some of its luster if your property was taken to build or expand a highway. ********************************************************* The power of the government to take your land is rooted in very old law called Eminent Domain. In America, that law traces back to the United States Constitution, under the 5th Amendment, which states that ‘no private property shall be taken for public use, without just compensation.’ In most cases, it is very difficult to defeat a government’s authority to take land. It happens occasionally, but in our experience, that’ a very difficult fight to win. While they must provide proof that your land is of benefit to the public, such as for building a new roadway, they must pay you the “fair value” for that land at its highest and best use. You can negotiate the value of the land, but more often than not, the government is going to get your land whether you like it or not. In other cases, land may be taken by Inverse Condemnation, when the government or a private entity does something to reduce the value of your land…without paying you anything. Some examples of this might include: 1. A highway is built near your property, and an important water source is altered such that your land is now flooded. 2. During the construction of a highway, the contractors use explosives, and the blast from the dynamite causes damage to your buildings or home. 3. The state has long-term plans to build a roadway project, say, 20 years from now. But, in the meantime, will not allow you to build or make improvements to your land. We frequently see cases like this when the state is considering building a belt line around a major city, but the project may drag on for decades. All the while, property owners can neither sell nor improve their property. In all of these ways, you—the landowner—are being deprived of your state and federal constitutional rights to receive just compensation for your property. If one of these situations is affecting you, then talking with an attorney about your legal rights is probably the single best thing you can do to protect yourself and your investment.

28

What is “Fair Value”? The first question most people have when they find out their land is being taken is “How much money will I be paid?” Well, in an eminent domain land condemnation case, the amount you receive for your land can be determined in a couple of ways. In most cases, if the NC DOT or other government agency preparing to take your land, they will have their own appraiser determine the value of the land taken from you. That is the amount they will likely offer you. In my experience, this appraised value is always lower that what your land is actually worth. That’s because the State’s appraisers are working for the government, and will therefore try to minimize the amount that has to be paid to you—the less they pay you, the more money they get to keep. The only way to fight this low-ball offer is to hire an attorney experienced in land condemnation cases. Your attorney will retain a real estate appraiser who is experienced in land condemnation and eminent domain cases on your behalf. That appraiser will be independent of the government, and will develop an opinion of the value of your land, which considers all of the factors allowed under the law. Now, if this process seems unfair and uncaring, you’re right—it is. The government will be unemotional and unmoved about your plight as a landowner. To them, it is all about money and building things. But to you, it is about a whole lot more than that. It’s about your home, your land, your family, your life. That’s why having an attorney on your side is so important. You need someone who understands your legal rights, and who will fight the big battles for you. We have created a whole video series about Eminent Domain, Land Condemnation, and Inverse Condemnation. You can find the videos and more at: www.nclandlawyer.com.

Been There,

I Am One of Many – A

By: Chewy (Biker Dog)

Second, if it’s warm, my driver will wet my t-shirt before we roll. Wetting my t-shirt is not for any contest. The evaporation cools me. Be prepared for longer stops at gas stations and rest areas as people ask about your dog. My driver uses that time to praise God and Jesus, and talk about support to our Troops and to Veterans. For us, it’s a ministry opportunity to plant seeds. Keep in mind that there are added dangers to riding with a dog. I think most dogs will stay in their saddles and enjoy the ride, so I don’t think it’s the dog that becomes the danger – it’s the cagers.

Do you have a furchild and ever thought about taking the little one for a ride? I occasionally receive messages asking about my saddle and riding tips. I’m happy to provide information about my gear, but my driver and I also provide warnings. Those warnings are not intended to discourage bikers from riding with their furchild, but to make them aware that riding with an animal increases the dangers to them and those riding with them. First, my saddle. It’s a BeastRider and it is secured to the passenger saddle. My saddle is custom to my H-D Ultra, and the company makes saddles of all sizes for many bikes. For example, my bikerdog friend, Kimi, has a BeastRider for her driver’s Spyder (August Miller), and it’s much larger than mine. Jack (rest in peace) had a large saddle that his driver, Chuck Persinger (rest in peace), could use on their Softtail or Dyna. I think Jack’s saddle is now used by Fred, who rides with his driver, Mark DaPonte. If you have a small dog, there are more options. For example, Snoopy has a type of child seat he uses when riding with his driver, Tim Wall. My uncle welded a seat frame for his biker dog, Bella, and built it so that it is part of the bike. If you’re dog is small and unsure if s/he will ride, then you might consider securing a milk crate to your bike to determine if your dog likes it. If you do, put some padding on the bottom so it’s a bit more comfortable. If your dog loves the ride, then you can google a better, safer saddle. If you’ve seen me or pictures of me, you know I wear doggles and a helmet. I sometimes wear a swamp vest when it’s warm, but not humid. You can google those on the internet to find them. You might also notice that I wear a white t-shirt in the summer. There are two reasons. First, the white t-shirt does not absorb as much heat from the sun as compared to my darker fur.

30

On the interstate, we have been forced to the shoulder many more times than I can count on my paws. The cagers are trying to get a picture and I reckon getting those pictures are more important than our lives because they start drifting toward us and into our lane. When we’re forced to the shoulder, my driver simply lets up on the throttle and the cager flies ahead of us. Most of the time, we see brake lights and they slow down to get beside us again. My driver just stays behind them until they give up and drive on. Early in my riding days, we learned not to ride near the front of the pack unless we’re primarily on 2-lane roads. If we’re in a group on a 4-lane, it only takes one cager to slow down to take pictures and causes a back-up of other cagers alongside the group. That presents a danger to the whole pack! If we’re in a group and know we’ll be spending a lot of time on 4-lanes, we tend to ride near the back of the pack unless we’re taking photographs or videos. That way, as cagers/starers come up to us, they keep the line of cagers behind the tailgunner and the pack. Keep in mind that not all establishments allow dogs. When we’re travelling, my driver rarely leaves me outside alone, except to order a meal that we share outside, or to go to the latrine at a rest area or gas station. We have to research hotels in advance to ensure I can stay with my driver. For a trip to South Texas for my driver to attend a reunion, we could not find any doggie-friendly hotels at the destination, so he made reservations for me to stay at a private, air-conditioned doggie resort near Odem. I was sooooo happy when I heard my Harley roll-up before I checked out of the resort. Depending on the size of your dog and where s/he sits, you also need to be aware of the slobber factor, which depends on the air flow. At speeds below 45mph, my slobber rolls into the wind and falls behind us. At about 55-60mph, the air flow brings my slobber forward and the back of our windshield gets dried slobber spots.

www.bikerdoggie.com

Sniffed That

A Doggiehood of Bikers At 65mph and higher, my slobber floats forward, the airflow under the fairing pushes it up, and the air flow over the windshield pushes it into my driver’s face. On my second cross-country trip through east Texas (80mph), I puked and some of it ended up on my driver’s lips and face. He had to pull over when he started getting dry heaves. For us dogs, putting our tongues in the wind is enjoyable, but being with our hoomans is what we enjoy the most. If you decide to bring your furchild on your steed, please consider the safety of your dog, the people around you, and, of course, your safety.

Tongue in the wind!

brewer Cycles’ 18th annual Duke Charity Motorcycle Ride Sunday, June 7, marked Brewer Cycles’ 18th Annual Charity Motorcycle Ride to Benefit Duke Children’s. After Duke helped Chris Brewer’s son, Tyler, win a 3 year battle with childhood cancer, 17 years ago, he has used his award-winning dealership every year to host a charity ride. All of the proceeds go directly to serving the children and families of Duke Children’s. The event begins around 7:00am when Ronnie Gilliam and other members of the Christian Motorcyclist Association light the coals that will slow cook the chickens to be served for dinner. By 9:30 vendors are arriving and setting up; this year vendors included Robert’s Airbrush, Cross Creek Outdoor Supply, Origami Owl Jewelry, Thirty-One Bags, Behind Barz, Vance County Animal Control, and Stick’s Grill. Ride participants enjoyed music by D.J. Sawyer Wilson as they played corn hole, visited with friends, ate some lunch, and admired performance cars. The Christian Motorcyclist Association was on hand, as they are faithfully every year, to bless bikes, cook, and serve in any way they are needed. The ride began promptly at 1:30 after a few words from Duke’s own Jordan Chaney and a prayer. Nearly 260 motorcycles carefully maneuvered out of Brewer Cycles’ parking lot and made their way through the center of Henderson. After a safe and successful 82.5 mile ride to Clarkesville, VA., and across the dam, they made their way back to the dealership for a delicious chicken dinner, including dessert provided by the Durham frozen yogurt company, LoYo (Local Yogurt; named for their use of locally grown ingredients) and endless door prizes. Please visit www.brewercycles.com to see a complete list of 2015 Door Prize donors. Finally, the 1st and 2nd prize raffle winners were drawn as well as the winner of the 50/50 raffle – who then donated half of it right back to Duke Children’s! With over 300 people and over $8000 donated to Duke Children’s, the 18th Annual Charity Motorcycle Ride was definitely a success!!!

Behind Barz Product Review Undertech Undercover Coolux mesh shirt review. Photos & story by Blue Star Bud. My son SuperDave & I had the opportunity to try a great American made product by UnderTech Undercover. This is a highly specialized shirt made expressly to be the ultimate in comfortable concealment for handguns. The box lists this shirt as the Coolux mesh, Compression Concealment V-neck Coolux shirt. Dave’s is the grey, XL, item # T1275. The shirt easily accommodated any of the 3 different pistols we tried. It had no problem holding either a full size Colt 1911 in .45 ACP, a Ruger P85 9MM, or a S&W 422, .22 LR. with a 4” barrel. It has pockets on both sides for LH or RH carry, plus pockets for one spare magazine on both sides. A person could, conceivably pack 2 handguns & 2 magazines, one handgun & 2 magazines, or 1 gun, 1 magazine & a decent size folding knife like a Cold Steel Voyager or Recon 1. Obviously this is a versatile platform with a multitude of discrete carry options. Dave found the shirt snug but comfortable on his 6’, 200 lb. frame. It fits rather tightly, but it is a ‘compression’ shirt, so it won’t shift and allow items to flop around. We found no flaws or undesirable features with this shirt. The coolux mesh was comfortable to Dave even on the hot, humid day we took these photos. Concealment & accessibility don’t necessarily go hand in hand but this product isn’t made for ease of access to your favorite ‘heater’. There are other products to carry a handgun & get it into action fast. This shirt, worn under almost any type of other shirt, or jacket will provide a high degree of ‘discretion’ for the person who wants to pack a ‘piece’ without anyone else knowing it. To that end, this shirt excels at it’s intent. I did some internet research & found many great products at undertechundercover.com. This shirt can be purchased from them for $59.95 each, or you can buy 3 for $119.95. They even allow you to mix 3 dissimilar products at a substantial savings. Ground shipping was $13.54 to my area.

NICOLE

If you need to carry personal protection, and want to keep it truly concealed, then consider this product. As for SuperDave & myself, we’re impressed!

The BB Crew tested a few products from UnderTech Undercover. They sent us men’s and women’s concealment shirts and the Belly Band. They are all made of top quality material and they provided comfort, even while riding. We all agreed that the shirts do not sag, are comfortable and one thing I loved about them is the fact they they hold up in the wash! I have washed mine several times because I carry all the time and it still looks the same and conceals the same. ~Doobie

I loved the UnderTech Undercover women’s scoop neck compression concealment shirt I tested! I wore it while riding my bike and out on the town. It was very comfortable and I did not have to worry about anyone having a clue that I was carrying! ~Nicole For more testimonies and photos, please go to our Facebook page: www.Facebook.com/BehindBarzMag If you have a product that you would like us to review, please give us a call: 252-314-8589

Never Judge A Bo Bikers are judged all the time simply because of the way they dress, their tattoos, maybe even because of their long hair and beards and certainly because they ride a motorcycle. It’s a fact of life that people sum up other people simply by the way they look. It’s not right. But if people can just look a little deeper, especially with bikers, they will find that bikers give more to society than any other group. Many would give the shirt off their back or the last dollar in their pocket to help someone else...and they do!

Joseph

We are all writing our own books...the past, the present and the future is in the works. The dust jacket may be a little dirty, grungy or completely torn off but it’s what’s inside that counts! That old adage is true... Never, Ever Judge A Book By It’s Cover! Joe is a perfect example of this adage! He was born Nov. 24, 1947 and raised in Milwaukee, N.C., and still lives there today. He is the oldest of five kids and says he is the best looking, as he chuckles. He got hitched in 1971 and unhitched in 1995. He goes on to say, “I make light of my marriage but I have to say the divorce was the most hurting thing I have ever experienced. I have one son and a teenage grand-daughter. This period of my life gets a lot of credit for the person I’ve become!” Joe retired from International Paper in Franklin, Va., after 35 years. He is a patch holder of the Dragon Slayers and has been for two years. Joe has a cute little friend that is his shadow most of the time. “Harley is my English Bulldog that just turned one year old. When I bought her she was 12 weeks old. She can be the most stubborn dog I have ever seen but she is also a little sweetie. We asked Joe how many tattoos he has and he said he has never counted them but that 85% of his body is covered. He says, “My goal is to be covered before I leave this world...or at least 95%.” He continues, “During my marriage I made some bad decisions (I know we all do at times) but I really regret judging people by their looks. I would tell my son people with tattoo’s and piercings were drug addicts, alcoholics, wouldn’t work for living, etc. Well, after my divorce in 1995, I got my first motorcycle and tattoo. Well friends, it took off from there! I was addicted to getting tatts! On May 12, 1992, I went to a treatment center and I became clean and sober. About 4 years later I decided to start getting a piercing for every year I stayed clean and sober. So, now I have 22 piercings...and another one is due. In reading this you can see that I now look like people I would tell my son (when he was growing up) were no good. It came back to haunt me. He doesn’t want me around my grand-daughter, or his wife, or him in the public. But I know and feel different about judging people today . I have lots of tattoos, piercings, and a genuine good heart.” He goes on to say, “I’d rather be hated for who I am than to be loved for what I’m not... And most importantly, God is my Savior!

Founder Vicki Gray To say Vicki Gray is an advocate for safe, fun, motorcycling is an understatement – her life is fully submerged in motorcycling and she’s as passionate about the sport today as the day she first began to ride! She’s participated in all aspects of motorcycling - taught motorcycle riding to thousands of beginners, trained police in the Caribbean (Netherlands Antilles), raced in the Supersport 600 throughout Europe, co instructed with MotoGP racer Katja Poensgen, partnered events with famed TT Circuit Assen, and co-hosted a television program for the Discovery Channel. These are just a few highlights of her accredited bio not forgetting to mention her sponsorship by World Championship team Ten Kate Honda and during other competitions; by Ducati.

With RaceGirl’s explosive worldwide growth and popularity Vicki decided to create a new brand which would satisfy the entire range of women’s riding disciplines and in 2005 MOTORESS® was born! Motor is the Dutch word for motorcycle and of course ‘ess’ is a suffix of femininity. Vicki relocated the company to Toronto, its current International head office.

Of both Canadian and Dutch nationality, born in Ontario, Canada, Vicki sets the overall direction for MOTORESS®. Before deciding to become an entrepreneur, Vicki enjoyed numerous business development careers for major European Telecommunications companies. Prior to jumping on the ‘internet wave’ she spent many years at Excerpta Medica Amsterdam, (Reed Elsevier) in Medical Strategic Publication Planning for Europe.

Vicki’s over twenty five years as a motorcycle instructor both in North America, Europe and the Caribbean gained her a role in 2010 as one of the presenting instructors (the only female), for the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme Commission (FIM) International Experienced Rider Training Symposium (ERTS). This was hosted in Canada by the Canadian Motorcycle Association (CMA) and the Canada Safety Council.

In 1998 Vicki founded RaceGirl Motorsport, a non-profit motorcycle training and support community head-quartered in Amsterdam, The Netherlands which coincided with her personal road racing activities. She built the renowned global brand RaceGirl and its website - the first of its kind for women motorcycle riders. Her courses, on-line articles and workshops encouraged women, enhance skills and continue to expand the female riding community.

In 2012 Vicki achieved certification as “Honda Advanced Skills Motorcycle Instructor” from Honda Japan via the Honda Driving Safety Promotion Center Motegi, Japan. She is the only woman to date to have completed this training in the school’s history, Motegi, Japan.

In 2007 she introduced International Female Ride Day with the theme of “Just Ride”, the only global women’s motorcycle ride event. Its embraced success by women around the world has made it a global phenomenon and an important mechanism for the motorcycle industry.

Vicki continues to work solely (soul-ly) on MOTORESS® while enjoying excessive amounts of diverse motorcycling!

1st North Carolina NATIONALS Raleigh, NC

What a show in NC’s capital city! It was hot rodding at it’s best at the NC State Fairgrounds on 17-19 April. Over 1,500 American made & powered show cars came through the gates, along with thousands of fans. Saturday night the Goodguys Demolition Derby took place and it was wild and action packed! The new Raleigh event was also the kick off for the Goodguys AutoCross for Kids program benefitting the Austin Hatcher Foundation. The Austin Hatcher Foundation teamed with Goodguys earlier this year to raise funds and awareness for the Foundation’s mission to erase the effects of pediatric cancer for patients, survivors and their families. True to form, the hot rodding community stepped way up to help! Countless enthusiasts handed over generous donations to take a ride around the Goodguys AutoCross track with a PRO driver of their choice. Thanks to all who participated and helped us raise over $2,000 for the kids! Big AutoCross weekend winners included Kyle Tucker (PRO 39.545), Chris “Smitty” Smith (Shootout Qualifier 40.390), Christopher Haigler (Hot Rod 43.218) and Michael Johnson (Street Machine 39.396). Good-Guys also had a spectacular indoor vintage race car exhibit (inside the spacious Dorton arena), a great swap meet & AutoTrader Classics Cars 4 Sale Corral. This looks to be a new and awesome tradition for North Carolina! For a list of car show winners and more info, please check out their website: www.good-guys.com

11th annual Bull City Rumble NC’s largest vintage motorcycle show! Downtown - 1007 W. Main St. Vintage motorcycle and scooter rally hosted by Ton Up N.C. The event has evolved from its humble beginnings in a parking lot in 2005 to a multi-venue, multi-day rally drawing thousands of enthusiasts from all over the world. Thematically, the event has its roots in the traditional rivalry of Mods vs. Rockers, the sensationalized clash of two youth cultures- scooter riding mods and motorcycle riding rockers, in 1960’s England.
