Thank you so much for your continued support! Our troups are still on their mission! There is a lot that your church, civic group, families, bike club, etc. can do to help the troops! Items currently needed for Care packages: Hand sanitizer, deoderants, lipbalm, cool wraps, powdered drink mixes to add to bottled water, protein foods such as jerky, slim jims, and tuna in pouches, nuts and trail mix. This is a great idea for a bike club/group - collect items and let the participants write messages of encouragement on cards to include in our care packages! Volunteers are always welcome and needed to support our troops. We are a nonprofit organization with the mission to support troops and their family members by providing care and comfort items and ex-pressions of appreciation for their service and sacrifices. Packing care packages for deployed troops is a way to show your support and appreciation for the service and sacrifices by our military members. You can also send a contact name and address of a troop. Absolutely fantastic group of volunteers today! Volunteers from 4 units of North Carolina National Guard, Army soldiers, NCP4P team along with TruPack truckers unloaded 12 pallets of Girl Scout cookies from the Piedmont to Pines Girl Scouts.

We Remember

In Memory of Joe Cochrane On May 3, 2014 a Memorial Service and Motorcycle Run was held in memory of Joe Cochrane at Country Time Tavern in Goldsboro, NC. Many bikers participated and all the proceeds were given to the Cochrane family. Joe Cochrane was a man of honor. He was a loving husband and fantastic father to his step-daughters whom he loved with all his heart. He never had anything bad to say to anybody. He was a quiet man but when the music started… his head went a boppin’ as he enjoyed the sounds of great music around him. After his passing Joe was an organ donor. Not only did he donate his organs so that others may live, his hair was cut and donated to Locks of Love for disadvantaged children who are in need of hair pieces as they are suffering from long term medical hair loss. What an example of giving all in love!

Joe and Gina

The bikers who went on the run, stopped in front of Joe’s house for a moment of silence to remember him. His dear wife had his motorcycle in the driveway with his boots to the side and his helmet on the back. This simple act to demonstrate the love, respect and honor for this quiet man that everyone had. Delicious BBQ plates were sold and quickly eaten. Redemption Band gave a great concert in the evening hours for all to enjoy. There was a raffle for a Kahr Arms CW9 9 mm semi -automatic pistol. Jody O’Neil is now the proud owner of the 9 mm pistol.

~ RIP JOE COCHRANE ~ You will be remembered for the great Biker Brother that you were!

your Health Behind Barz

The Best Fah-Ree Medicine Many times the best medicine is fah-ree. Laughter is often the best medicine. If laughter was sold for $250 a chuckle we would realize how valuable it is to laugh. There is evidence in medical journals that supports it is good to laugh. Laughter will decrease blood pressure, relieve tension, relax your muscles and often put you in a better mood. Laughter will decrease pain at times, boost the immune system, decrease anxiety and stress. Laughter will strengthen relationships, enhance teamwork and promote group bonding. Laughing with others is more powerful than laughing alone. Joy often is doubled when you laugh with fellow bikers. It is written a merry heart does one good and it is so true. Remember laughing at something silly that your children did and how good you felt afterwards?? Even just remembering the stupid things you did years ago and now it is so funny to talk about??? We are fah-ree to laugh and share our joy in these United States of America. Let us be thankful for our country and share a good Fourth of July joke with someone. Be blessed, ride safe and smile big!

Jerry Grimes Poker Run & Benefit On May 31, 2014 a benefit poker run was held in honor of Jerry Grimes. Brother Jerry Grimes has ridden with and encouraged many bikers in the last few decades. Jerry always took time to listen and help brothers and sisters. He has been very ill and doctors believe he has neurosarchoidosis. Only time will tell if he will regain lost physical and mental capabilities. This run helped to raise just about $3,000 to assist the family with expenses and care for this dear man. The run went from Wayne County, to Smithfield, to Wilson and back to Goldsboro. At the end of the run there were delicious plates of BBQ, 50/50, cake auction, an aeronautical print auction and of course the poker run winner was announced. While participants ate, Jason Crawford Pearce sang songs off of his new CD, Faith and Heartbreak, for all to enjoy. His daughter, Tracy, (AKA Red), rode Jerry’s Honda Valkyrie in his honor in the poker run. When Jerry saw the number of people who showed up to honor and help him he was so filled with thanks for the support. A tear was noted in his eye while he smiled and you could see the desire to ride with all who came.

Mr. Jerry you are loved! Remember to keep your head up. A biker salute to you for all you have done and are going to do!

F.A.I.T.H. riders 1st Weekend Bike Rally

Story: Lady D

Photoz: Joe Strickland

On June 6, 7 and 8, 2014 the Neuse Baptist Church F.A.I.T.H. Riders had a weekend bike rally off of Highway 70 in La Grange, NC. Evangelist Jerry McGee was there all three days. Brother Jerry shared how he was there to talk about the cross. No matter how down you have been or how hurt you are there is hope in Jesus Christ. He was there to give the gospel of hope and redemption as all things CAN become new. He has a story to tell of the changes in his life….let him tell you about going from the Harley to the Cross…. On Saturday many riders from all over came. Bikes were blessed and then all went on a Bike Charity Ride to the Cliffs of the Neuse. When they returned to the open camp site there was free food, beverages, a people’s favorite bike show, and One Promise Gospel Band provided live music for all to enjoy. Much love and respect was shown by all who helped work the rally. All the funds that were raised on the charity ride were given to the Friends of the Homeless shelter in Kinston. Thank you F.A.I.T.H. Riders for sharing the good news, good giving, and great loving, that is what brotherhood is all about.

Relay For Life Franklin County, N.C.

story & photos: Nicole Hastings

The Relay For Life of Franklin County held our first ever motorcycle ride on Saturday, May 24, 2014, with over 35 riders and passengers supporting our Ride For The Cure. Ride organizer, Steve Burnette, contacted the American Cancer Society to start a ride in Franklin County. “I called the Relay For Life of Franklin County looking for a Relay For Life ride to support. I have been through cancer treatments, and realized just how much Relay For Life has done and I wanted to give back somehow. There was no ride in Franklin County and I wanted to do my part,” said Burnette. “With over $480 raised towards the fight against cancer, our first year was a success! We will definitely have another ride next year,” said Nikki Hastings, Community Manager for the Relay For Life of Franklin County. “Thank you to everyone who supported the event! A special thanks to Steve Burnette for organizing, as well as Johnny Gardner and the Johnny’s Barbecue staff for the meal after the ride.” Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraiser with more than 6,000 events in 20 countries, raising more than $400 million. Donations received through Relay For Life are put to work through investing in ground-breaking research in every type of cancer and providing free information and services to cancer patients and their care-givers. Each Relay For Life event is special to its community, but all events are volunteer-driven and have the same mission. Relay For Life honors survivors and caregivers, remembers those lost to the disease, and continues to fight back for a world with more birthdays. Throughout the year, teams organize and hold fundraisers to raise money for the cause before the big event. At the event, teams, participants, survivors and caregivers gather at a track, park, or fairground to campout and walk overnight in confidence that their effort will lead to a cure. The night is filled with food, music, live entertainment, games and meaningful ceremonies to celebrate and remember the reasons we Relay. The Relay For Life of Franklin County is held every year in the month of May in either Bunn or Franklinton. Our goal for 2014 is $140,000 and we are so close to reaching it! We have currently raised $133,789.42 in the fight against cancer. There is still time to donate if you would like to help! Please visit our website, www.relayforlife.org/franklinconc to make a donation today. If you would like more information, or would like to know how to get involved with the Relay For Life of Franklin County, please call (919) 334-7196.

Ride For The Cure 8th Annual

Breast Cancer Benefit Ride

The first “Ride for the Cure” in the Greenville area was held in September of 2007. In an effort to increase awareness in the community, the ride was based at the Harley-Davidson dealership in Winterville, NC (formerly J & E Harley-Davidson). The second annual event was also held at the dealership in October of 2008.

In March 2009, a group of 10 people joined forces to form “Ribbon Riders of Eastern NC, Inc.“. Having fought their own battle with cancer or having a loved one affected by cancer, the group realized the need for awareness and support on a local level. After serving as a “stop” on the ride for two years, the Breast Imaging Center at Eastern Radiologists, Inc. became the host site and is a major supporter of the annual event. “Ride for the Cure” continues to be based at Eastern Radiologists, Inc. Breast Imaging Center located at 2101 W. Arlington Blvd., Greenville. Each year, “Ride for the Cure” continues to grow. In 2012, there were more than 100 riders, coming from communities across the state and parts of southeast Virginia. In addition, there were more than 40 cars on-site for the first Car Show. In 2013, there were over 125 motorcycle riders and more than 60 entries for the car show.

The monies distributed are used to support breast cancer screenings, early detection programs, and provide assistance to breast cancer patients (women and men) during treatment. According to the American Cancer Society early detection tests for breast cancer save thousands of lives each year. The money raised and put to use through “Ride for the Cure” allows patients to be diagnosed at an early stage and treated successfully, saving lives right here in eastern North Carolina. For more information about the 8th Annual “Ride for the Cure” visit us online at RideForTheCureNC.com, on our Facebook page RideForTheCureNC .

Last year Ride for the Cure NC’s fundraising efforts produced over $20,000 in donations to Pitt, Beaufort and Lenoir Counties.

Tippett’s Mill

photos: Vinney & Doobie

Bike Nights and Beyond! Tippett’s Mill store is a great destination whether you are on your bike or not! Also known as Taylors Millpond, it is a reservoir located just 4.8 mi. from Zebulon, in Nash Co., N.C. Down by the water’s edge was a former grist mill. After the mill closed it became a store, owned by John & Marie Tippett. They ran the store for years until 1999 when Hurricane Floyd flooded and destroyed the building. Now, the original building is no longer there. A new bldg. was built, after the Floyd devistation, located just up a hill in full view of the beautiful mill pond. John & Marie Tippett poured their heart and soul into the new store. John has since passed on and Marie’s health is in decline. It is now ran by Bill and Melissa. They are carrying on the dream of maintaining a mom & pop drinking hole ~ Melissa says, “Where everybody is welcome!”

Many things are happening at Tippett’s on any given night. From pool tournaments to turkey shoots. There’s always a bike run or two stopping in every weekend. Not to mention, one of the best fishin’ spots around! ...just ask Bobby Driver! He catches fish for a monthly fish fry at Tippetts! Just ask him. He will tell ya how many he has cought thus far for the fish fry and how many he has thrown back. Bobby is the local icon/mascot for Tippetts Mill! He knows the fishin’ hole like the back of his hand and he knows all about the history of Tippets and the surrounding area. He should, he has lived there his entire 80 year life! Tippetts Mill has bands play quite often and you never know who might stop by. Bill also cooks on certain days and the beer is always cold! Check them out on Facebook or give them a call for all the details of what’s going on...if they are unsure, ask for Bobby. He can tell ya!

Beards for Bigun Blowout Our dear friend and co-worker, Steven “BigUn” Harris, has been battling Cancer. With being out of work and the arrival of a beautiful baby girl, we know times have not been easy for he and his family. Hometown Harley-Davidson wanted to do everything in their power to help! They challenged everyone with the task of helping them reach their goal of raising $7500 to help BigUn! If they succeeded, they would have their very own, Jamie Seymour, COMPLETELY SHAVE OFF his currently 11” beard! As you can see in the photo to the right...they accomplished their goal!!! Ryan Thompson shaved off Jamie’s beard at the event for BigUn while his friends and family cheered him on! BigUn, we wish you well in the fight of your life! God bless you and your family during this trying time!

Sandhills bike blessing 2nd Annual SandHills Bike Blessing – Freedom Biker Church Fayetteville Folks at Freedom Biker Church were praying hard for the rain to either hold up or move along before they kicked off the 2nd Annual SandHills Bike Blessing on Saturday, April 5th. The forecast was calling for rain late Friday, early Saturday morning but it turned out (answered prayer) to be an excellent day for the Bike Blessing. This is a great event that focuses on praying for Motorcyclists in Cumberland and the surrounding counties. Freedom Biker Church started the event in 2013 to simply pray for those who ride. Sr. Pastor JD Tew said, “We have approximately 8000 registered Motorcyclists in Cumberland County and another 8000 in the neighboring counties… We want to pray for all those who ride, for their safety, their Bike, and any other issues they have going on in their life. It’s an honor and a privilege to go to God in prayer, and even more so when you get to pray for others.” The folks at Freedom Biker Church Fayetteville would like to see the Bike Blessing grow into a State wide event and even an East Coast event. They had several couples ride in from out of state and two couples who rode down from Pennsylvania. The event was scheduled from 11 am – 1 pm but folks continued to hang out to 2 pm, which says a lot about the folks at Freedom. A main “Blessing” is shared at High Noon for all the Bikers and our Military. After the Main “Blessing” the folks from Freedom break out and pray for individuals and their motorcycles. It’s really something to see all those people praying over the Bikes and those who ride! There were 30 Vendors present for this year’s event with everything from Biker Jewelry (Beverly Rose Designs) to Leather goods (TACTOY Leather), and the crowd favorite chocolate covered Strawberries, Bananas & Cheesecake from the Chocolate Lady! This year the folks at Freedom cooked 3 pigs and sold BBQ sandwiches to raise money for their building fund. (And they need it the way they’re growing!) Freedom’s own Scott “Frosty” James kept the crowd entertained with his DJ skills and was the MC for the event. They topped last year’s numbers with over 400+ Bikes and 800+ in attendance. I’m sure next year will be even bigger & better! If you ride you should check your church out! It’s a place to Belong, Believe, and Become what God wants you to Become in Jesus Christ!

Never Judge A Bo

TiM Christie

Bikers are judged all the time simply because of the way they dress, their tattoos, maybe even because of their long hair and beards and certainly because they ride a motorcycle. It’s a fact of life that people sum up other people simply by the way they look. It’s not right. But if people can just look a little deeper, especially with bikers, they will find bikers give more to society than any other group. Many would give the shirt off their back or the last dollar in their pocket to help someone else...and they do! We are all writing our own books...the past, the present and the future is in the works. The dust jacket may be a little dirty, grungy or completely torn off but it’s what’s inside that counts! That old adage is true...Never, Ever Judge A Book By It’s Cover!

ook By It's Cover Tim Christie, biker born, biker life, has biker ink and a biker’s heart. This brother loves to live life to the fullest with no regrets. He is so willing try almost anything once. Yet don’t judge a book by it’s cover..... Tim has attended Windham Technical to learn about automobiles and he loves to rebuild old cars. Tim has grown up around race cars and has worked on automobiles his whole life. He has a 1938 Chevy Master that is all original except for the mechanical. He customized a Budweiser beer keg for the gasoline tank in the Chevy Master. There is nothing like opening up a car trunk and seeing a keg of gasoline in front of you! Tim enjoys customizing bikes, too. He has a 1996 Harley Davidson Super Glide that he bought in 2003 and started customizing it the day he bought it. He is starting his own business for customizing cars and bikes called Highway 13 Ratrods. He proudly says that meeting his lovely wife, Brandi, was a turning point in his life. She is one to encourage, lift-up, rise-up, and helped him become the fine man he is today. Together they have one lovely child that causes his eyes to light up when he talks about his family. Tim is a big supporter of POW-MIA’s and has a full back tattoo to show his support and a customized tag on his bike to display it as well. He has proudly served our country in the United States Air Force. Tim customizes most anything with an engine in it and will tell you to “tighten up the first chance you get”! My cross-country ride did not go as planned. On the morning of May 10, Craig Hardy linked up with us in Sanford. The weather was pawfect until we reached Virginia. Craig and my driver put on their wet suits. Me? I stay dry by tucking in behind my driver. In West Virginia, we ran into rain, most of it was heavy. We took a short detour to check out the New River Gorge Bridge, but it was too foggy and rainy to get a clear view of it. Soon after leaving the bridge, we had problems. We could hear loud grinding coming from the area of my driver’s feet. We pulled over and my Harley wouldn’t go anymore. At first, my driver thought it was the primary, but since we only heard the noise when releasing the clutch, he thought it may be the transmission. Since my Harley is on its third gear pack, that seemed to make sense. Craig and my driver are HOG members. The first lesson learned is to put your HOG card where you can find it. Why? HOG members participate in a roadside assistance program. My driver knew our HOG card was in one of the bags. Craig had his card in his wallet. We were stranded on the side of the road for over two hours before J&J towing arrived, took us to a hotel, and took my Harley to their shop. Craig was unsure about going on to California, but my driver and I convinced him that we were OK and all we needed was to get the Harley to the HD Dealer in Raleigh. We gave Craig the 200 dog tags we were carrying and the funeral flag. The next day, Craig headed west while my driver and I rented a U-Haul and brought my Harley home. During our previous cross-country rides, our contingency plan was to put the bike in a rental truck and bring her home if we could not get her repaired in a day or two. In West Virginia, the Harley service departments are closed on Sundays and Mondays (or so we were told by HOG), so it was the right decision to take the bike home. While my Harley was in the shop, Craig visited a number of veterans memorials and cemeteries while rolling through West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Louisiana and Mississippi.

Birmingham, AL - it felt like being in a tomb surrounded by Fallen Heroes, whose names are engraved in the walls. This is as far as my Harley rolled on Day 1 - near Hico, WV.

Sniffed That

rumps Our Plan While in the Atlanta area, I met Craig’s son and daughterin-law.

He carried a Fallen Heroes roster with over 6,700 names. It’s hard to describe the emotions when you see a name on a head stone or a memorial and you realize you are carrying that person with you on a journey to honor Fallen Heroes and to honor our military service members, past and present. The problem with my Harley wasn’t the gear pack. The rear pulley was chewed up and about a third of the drive belt teeth were sheared off. Maybe something got caught between the pulley and belt. My Harley was ready by Friday. Craig also had problems with his bike. He took his Harley to Thunderbird Harley-Davidson in Albuquerque, NM with electrical problems. We had only one day built-in as a contingency, so when his Harley was ready, he headed east. On May 17, we rolled west to link-up with Craig. We rode US-64 across North Carolina to Chattanooga, TN. By the time we reached Brevard, we rolled through scattered showers and fog. The next day, we visited Chattanooga National Cemetery in the rain, and we rolled through heavy rain to Birmingham. Once we reached the north side of Birmingham, it was partly sunny and warm. We linked up with Craig in Birmingham, AL and had dinner a dog friendly restaurant. The next day, we visited a memorial in Birmingham and the Marietta National Cemetery before spending the night at the house of Craig’s mom and step-dad. On our way to NC, Craig pointed at the school that he attended and told us a story of the school. After returning to North Carolina, we spent two days at home before riding with Rolling Thunder NC1 to Washington, DC to attend Rolling Thunder over the Memorial Day weekend. It’s amazing the number of people we met referring to Rolling Thunder as a parade. It’s a demonstration or protest. The local news estimated 500,000 bikes staged at the Pentagon for the demonstration.

Beginning and ending our mission at Kipling Cross.

Rolling Thunder weekend was totally pawesome. Barbra Corbett talked the owner of Governor House Inn (Falls Church, VA) to grant an exception to the no-pet policy so that I could stay with RTNC1 and RTNC2. We had a clean, comfortable room surrounded by bikers from many states. We had the addresses of several dog-friendly restaurants in Arlington, so we ate at “sit-down” restaurants instead of parking lots of fast-food places. On Saturday morning, we rode with RTNC1 and visited Arlington National Cemetery, where we visited several Fallen Heroes, most of whom we attended their funeral or memorial service. Craig and my driver carried their Fallen Heroes roster while they walked in Section 60.

Been There, Sniffed That At the Ft Washington H-D shop, we met Kristin, the Gold Star Wife of Carlos Santos-Silva, Sergeant First Class, US Army, Killed in Action 22 March 2010, Afghanistan. When we learned that Kristin is a Gold Star Wife, we told her about the Fallen Heroes roster onboard my Harley. We pulled it out and asked Kristin for her husband’s name. When she saw the book, she couldn’t speak, so she pointed to a patch with her husband’s name. My driver asked her for his home state, and she replied Tennessee. My driver opened the Fallen Heroes Roster, and it opened right to Tennessee and my driver immediately pointed to SFC Santos-Silva. Coincidence? Yes, if you believe that coincidence is God’s way of remaining anonymous. It also felt like God used us to brighten Kristin’s day. Honor. Respect. Remembrance. The day of the demonstration started at o’dark thirty. There were about 40 or so bikes that departed Governors House Inn for the Pentagon. Two members of Congresswoman Renee Ellmers staff were guests of RTNC1. The spent time with the chapter at the Pentagon parking lot, became bikers for the event and rode with two RT members, and spent time with the group under a shade tree near the Lincoln Memorial. Once we arrived under a shade tree, I snoozed and met the people around us between snoozes.

Rolling Thunder NC 1 allowed us to ride with them.

Ready to roll after spending the night with Craig’s parents near Augusta, GA.

After Rolling Thunder, the USO contacted Ol’ Bill (aka OB1 aka Jammer aka Our Smoke Chasin’ Friend) to try to reach me and let me know about Operation Omaha on June 6. Being the USO Ambassadog, I joined the USO in welcoming a group of WWII veterans returning from a visit to the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, VA. There were three buses, and the Patriot Guard Riders escorted them to Dorton Arena at the Raleigh Fairgrounds. After we returned home, we watched news video from the air of the buses rolling through traffic with police escort and the Patriot Guard. That was pawesome! The next day, we participated in a fund raiser for the Veterans Legacy Foundation. The first 20 or so who registered received one of the dog tags from Craig’s cross-country mission. When we linked up in Birmingham with Craig, we decided that he should have all of the dog tags to do with what he wished since he carried them almost across the USA.

CHEWY The Biker Dog: www.bikerdoggie.com

Been There, Sniffed That We also decided he should keep the US funeral flag. The VLF fund raiser was a pawrific success. Congresswoman Renee Ellmers was at PDQ Fayetteville to welcome us! PDQ provided us with a chicken tenders basket, fries, bottomless sodas, water and cookies. I shared part of one chicken tender with my driver, but I let him have the fries and root beer. So, the question I’ve been asked since Rolling Thunder is when will I be riding across the USA again? We’re grateful to Smart IT People Inc and Capital Bank for letting my driver take the time off for my cross-country ministry mission, but I probably won’t be trying to roll across the USA again because of my age. That was likely to have been my last opportunity, but I’m just happy to ride with my driver anywhere he goes! I’m dogficially going back to semiretirement, but I will try to continue supporting many of the organizations that have helped look after my driver and me over the years. If a church wants to hear our testimony or a military base wants us to visit, we’ll be happy to travel to them if they are within a few hours from my home. So, to answer the question. Cross-country? Probably not. My driver has an idea for a shorter ride next year, but we’ll see how I’m doing after another seven dog years pass.

Stay hydrated and enjoy the summer!

For Rene

On May 9, 2014 the Defiant Spirits MRC held a fund raiser/bike run/ Semi-Truck raffle for Rene Duff, at Kennedy Brothers Trucking in Beulaville, NC. Rene Duff has been diagnosed with aggressive, small cell cancer, stage 4. It has metastasized to his liver and brain. Rene is undergoing radiation and chemotherapy. Rene has been riding bikes since 2005. He loved riding his Heritage Softail and Ultra Glide. He is a trucker by trade, as well as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He has a history of being committed to all he does. But, now he is unable to work due to Cancer‌

Rene is pictured here in the center.

Many M/C, R/C, 2 wheel, 3 wheel and even 4 wheels rode in to give support. About 150 bikes participated in the run in his honor. Other organizations and churches in this community joined in with Defiant Spirits to help this brother. Live music was provided by the fine bands Crossroads and Dixie Driver. Over 1000 yummy BBQ plates were sold, 50/50 tickets, vendors, auctions, door prizes and the Semi-Truck raffle ticket drawing was held. Yes, you read right a Semi-Truck raffle. A Freightliner Semi-Truck was raffled off to raise money for Rene. The winner of the truck raffle was Ben Bundy. $30,000 was raised with the Semi-Truck Raffle and over $13,000 was raised with the other fund raising activities!!!!! Rene is very thankful for the Defiant Spirits sponsoring this benefit to help him and his family. Tears were in his eyes as he spoke about the love from bikers and the community to help him through this cancer challenge. Prayers are continued for Rene and much appreciation to the Defiant Spirits MRC for their love, honor and respect. DSFFDS

Riding for Those Who Can’t Do you know… How many Americans are still listed as unaccounted for from all previous wars? A. 7,887 B. None C. 125 D. 1,642 E. None of the above If your answer was “None of the above,” you are correct. If you don’t know or weren’t sure, you are not alone. The fact is that there are more than 83,000 Americans listed as unaccounted for since WWII. This includes more than 73,000 from WWII…7,887 from Korea… 1,642 from Vietnam…125 from the Cold War…and 3 civilian contractors from Iraq. Unfortunately, this is not common knowledge. That is why Rolling Thunder® Inc. Chapter 1 NC holds the “We Ride For Those Who Can’t” Remembrance Run each year. The primary purpose of this event is to educate the public that we still have many Americans who have yet to return from all wars, and to remind our government that we demand a full accounting of all those who remain missing and will not stop in our efforts until they are all home.

September 6, 2014 will mark our 5th annual Remembrance Run. This year we are teaming up with Freedom Biker Church Fayetteville and will start and end the day there. As in the past, upon registration a shirt with the POW-MIA logo prominently displayed will be provided to each paid participant. Come early to ensure you get your desired size. Every time you wear this shirt – YOU TOO will be helping to make sure our POW-MIA’s are not forgotten. We will take a ride through the country where we can appreciate the freedoms we have because of the sacrifices of those who served and are still serving and those who have yet to return. Lunch will be provided and there will be some cool door prizes to give away as well as time to enjoy the fellowship of so many like minded patriots. But the focus of our ride will be when we – strong in number and unified in our cause – roll down Hay St. in Fayetteville, NC and into the NC State Veterans Park to honor our nation’s POW-MIAs. Members of Rolling Thunder® Inc. Chapter 1 NC will conduct the Missing Man Table ceremony, a somber and powerful visual reminder of all of our nation’s missing. In attendance will be some very special guests…former Prisoners of War from WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. These men endured captivity in deplorable conditions and survived with honor due to their training and their faith… faith in their comrades, faith in their country, faith in their families, and faith in God. Today, they are pillars of the community and very active in supporting veterans programs and our active duty military. Funds raised from our event will be used to help with programs that support and honor veterans, such as Wreaths Across America, Veterans Empowering Veterans, and the Veterans Nursing Home…additionally, they will be used to help us continue our mission to educate the public. We do this in many ways…donations of POW-MIA flags, distribution of POW-MIA magnets…distribution of brochures…presentation of the Missing Man Table. Anything we can do to help ensure that when somebody sees the POW-MIA logo, they know what it stands for…that they know the price that has been paid for our freedoms. We hope you will join us this year as we take time to honor and remember our nation’s missing…and every year hereafter until they all come home. NEVER FORGET. Rolling Thunder® Inc. Chapter 1 NC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to publicize the POW-MIA issue…to educate the public that many American Prisoners of War were left behind after all previous wars; to help correct the past and to protect future Veterans from being left behind should they become Prisoners of War-Missing In Action. We are also committed to helping American Veterans from all wars. James R. Hollister, Jr., President Rolling Thunder® Inc. Chapter 1 NC www.rollingthunder-nc1.com

hello my happy riders from the mind of big ed

Hello you happy people!! Man, this sun and this weather is on time.. I’ve been enjoying the breeze and the wind in my no hair. While riding have you ever thought of the what (if’s)? What if a deer jumps out in front of me.. What if the guy in front of me doesn’t want Tue tomato on his just bought whooper and he chucks it out the window. What if that taco I just had.. decides to bail out in the middle of town and bacon the traffic is at a hault... All these what (if)s will make you think.. So then you think safety.. Did I check my tires? Is my welded holding up.. Did I do a quick check on my bolts.. Safety should all ways be on your mind for yourself and your passenger. Or if you are like me in a club. You keep your bros in mind.. Well.. I met one biker this week who had no business on two wheels and much less carrying someone with him. I was heading to work the other morning and there was a biker in front of me. That’s when I saw something cringging. I saw a piece of chrome hit the highway behind him. Nothing will make your heart sink like seeing chrome hit the road. So I pulled over to pick it up. It was a sissy bar. Then came the thrill of catching him before he got to far. After a brief undisclosed speed I caught up with him. At first he didn’t pay me no mind.. but once I showed him his sissy bar , he became very attentive.

I was almost disappointed there was no chewing gum holding something down.. I was like dude!!! Your bike needs some work huh.. He was like yea.. People ..there is no way you should ride a piece of... hummm well.. a bike like this.. and damn sure not carry someone with you.. not unless you want to.. 1. File an insurance claim. 2. (If you mate is with you.. ) you want to start seeing other people.. Or 3. Be true to the shirt that reads.. if you can read this shirt.. the bit*h fell off..

We pulled over and I handed him his stuff , I looked and asked ,hey bro, where’s his bolts that hold the bar. He then tells me it was zipped tied on..

You got to always think safety.. and you got to be ready for the what ifs .. Respect your ride.. or its going to hurt you..

I couldn’t believe what he said.. so I asked.. you don’t rife no body up there like that do ya.. he said, yea man .. its OK because they are holding me.. I was just in shock... then I couldn’t help but look at his sled. There was loads of duct tape..and loads of black electric tape..

Anyway.. stay safe out there.. and I will be seeing you Behind Barz.....

Cruisin’ The Coast “Cruisin’ The Coast” AKA the Myrtle Beach Spring Rally was bigger than ever this year! Numbers were certainly up!

We (the BB Crew) left on Thursday before the big weekend of the Rally from Goldsboro, N.C. We rode the entire way in rain, rain, and more rain! It was exciting, to say the least, and not our first time dancing in the rain but the older I get the less I like doing that! ...I think I speak for the entire Crew on that subject! After arriving at our destination and drying our soaked to the core bodies the rest of the weekend was a breeze and we kept our knees in it! We hit all the happenin’ spots, Poo’s, SBB, Beaver, K-Rae’s, Jammin’ Leather and Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson! MBHD had events going on all over the place...from Sticky Fingers and Texas Roadhouse to their main store in Myrtle Beach. At this year’s Rally there were no deaths do to vehicular accidents or any other means. This was one of the busiest rallies in years and fewer arrests. We found the best place to eat in Murrells Inlet, K-Rae’s! It is overlooking the Intercoastal Waterway, has live music and outdoor dining. The best seafood by far in S.C.! We stayed in Calabash, N.C. during the Rally and while there ate at Coleman’s Original Calabash Restaurant...we always do. It is our favorite restaurant in the Calabash area. It also has a beautiful view of the water. Can hardly wait for the Rally in the Fall ~ Hurricane Ally Rally!

~ Top 5 Things You Can Do ~

To Mess Up Your Social Security Disability Claim By David Henson Managing partner of HensonFuerst Attorneys. Applying for Social Security Disability is tough. At a time when you are feeling bad enough to be considered disabled, the Social Security Disability Administration seems to go out of their way to make the process as difficult as possible. If you want to make their job easier, I can help you with that. At HensonFuerst Attorneys, we help people through the long and exhausting process of getting Social Security Disability benefits. Of the many things we’ve learned along the way, one lesson is clear: The agency looks for reasons to reject your claim. They stack the deck against you. Here are the top 5 things you can do to help Social Security shut you out:

1. Don’t get medical care for your conditions.

Medical records are the foundation of any Social Security case. Because disability benefits are all about proving severe illness or disability, judges treat medical records very seriously. Whatever is written there is taken as the gospel truth, and—on the flip side—judges assume that anything NOT included in the records doesn’t exist. That means that if you don’t go to the doctor, then judges will believe that you aren’t that sick or injured. Of course, you and I know that that assumption isn’t completely fair, because some clients have chronic pain and gain nothing from going to the doctor. But winning a Social Security case is about having proof. Without documented proof of your ongoing medical care, you will lose your case.

2. Do drugs or alcohol.

With all the doctors’ appointments you’ll be having as part of treating your illness or disability, you won’t be able to hide a substance abuse problem (that includes drugs or alcohol). Doctors are masters at knowing when someone is taking drugs or drinking alcohol to excess, and they always make a notation of that in the medical records. And if your doctor somehow misses the signs, you can’t fool blood tests or urinalysis. If you have a problem with drugs or alcohol, you can still receive Social Security Disability benefits as long as you are getting treatment and trying to stay clean. Clients with a documented substance abuse problem need to get off the stuff, go to rehab, attend abstinence meetings, or do anything necessary to stay clean. Social Security judges have very little sympathy for folks who don’t want to help themselves, and they’ll deny a claim if they suspect that an applicant is an active user.

3. Break the law, or end up in jail.

If judges don’t like drug addicts and alcoholics, they deplore criminals. With so many people applying for Social Security Disability, and with limited funds available, judges will look for any reason to choose one applicant over another…and criminal activity is a fantastic way to help the judge stamp you file as “REJECTED.” And I’m not just talking about committing murder or bank robbery—get yourself a DUI or two, or give someone a black eye after an argument and you can destroy your case.

4. Don’t keep your lawyer up-to-date on your situation.

Your lawyer is your representative—we are your eyes, ears, and voice within the legal system. We need to know what you know, understand changes in your medical situation, and hear about what you are doing with regard to employment. We’re on your side, and we can advise you about how to proceed if there are changes in your life or illness. There is really no good reason to keep secrets from us. If you do, we can’t represent you properly…and we could both end up looking foolish in front of a judge. That’s a great way to tank your case.

5. Miss deadlines or appointments.

It’s hard enough to work through a Social Security Disability claim if you play by the rules, but if you don’t show up for your hearing, blow off a Consultative Exam, or fail to file an appeal within the required time, you’re virtually asking NOT to be approved. Second chances are rare, and the courts take appointments and deadlines very seriously.

If you work hard all your life, and end up so injured or sick that you can no longer work, you may be eligible to receive Social Security Disability benefits. But just because you are eligible, that doesn’t mean you are entitled. There is a world of reasons why your case may be not be approved…don’t hand the courts a reason to deny your claim.

morial Day

ndBarz.com

Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the men and women who died while serving in our country’s armed forces. We celebrate Memorial Day every year on the last Monday of May. It was formerly known as Decoration Day and originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union soldiers and Confederate soldiers who died in the war. Memorial Day Ceremonies were held across our great country on May 26, 2014. At 5:45 pm, people of all generations from across the State gathered together on the deck of the Battleship North Carolina, overlooking the scenic city of Wilmington, to pay their respects. The Executive Director of the Battleship, Captain Terry A. Bragg and members of the USS NORTH CAROLINA Battleship Commission, along with many vets were on hand for the ceremony. The two photos, top left, were shot by a great photographer who only wants to be known as, BigK! The photos below were shot by Stephen R. Brown a renowned photographer in the Washington DC area. His photos were shot at the WWII Memorial. Check out his photos on his website and on Facebook. He also has a book out called, Jewel of The Mall.
