Motor Maid News Discovering SC history sc motor maid style It’s amazing how you can live in a State for a long time and yet not take in all its’ beauty and history. In September, the South Carolina Motor Maids had a fantastic time riding the South Carolina Cotton Trail. Stretching from I-95 to I-20, this ninety mile ride will take you through South Carolina’s cotton country. Six towns make up the cotton trail: Clio, Bennettsville, Cheraw, Society Hill, Hartsville and Bishopville. Riding along this trail not only will you see many fields still used to produce cotton, but also you can experience the amazing National Historic District in Cheraw that host three centuries of lovely structures. Bennettsville has a fascinating museum containing exhibits such as a Victorian parlor, Indian artifacts and many other interesting historical objects. There is a cotton gin which runs from fall to winter. Pearl Fryar’s Topiary Garden resides in Bishopville. A must see on your planned trip! Society Hill hosts the Sompayrac General Store which operated from 1815 to 1984. The General Store was operated by the same family for 169 years. The scenic beauty you will find traveling along the South Carolina Cotton Trail is breathtaking! A great part in South Carolina history you’ll want to explore. Diane Dixon SC Motor Maid Director

He made an impression! You have to admit that. Even if you weren’t a Trekkie or a Trekker of even a follower of any kind of science fiction...you knew who Spock was! He became engrained in our minds, our thought processes, our psyche. I had the privilege of meeting him back in the 80’s when he came to Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College) in Wilson, N.C., to give a speech. I don’t even remember his speech but I do remember I must have shot 5 or 6 rolls of film of him that day. Too bad we didn’t have digital back then. I probably would have taken hundreds! It was a great memory from my childhood! I begged my mom to take me and even though she really didn’t want to, she drove me there. It was certainly a day I will never forget! Thanks mom! Leonard Nimoy was born in Boston on March 26, 1931. He was the second son of Max and Dora Nimoy, Yiddish-speaking Orthodox Jewish immigrants from Iziaslav, Soviet Union (now Ukraine). His religious upbringing influenced the characterization of Spock. He even created the Vulcan greeting.

In 1953, Nimoy enlisted in the United States Army Reserve, serving for 18 months and separating in 1955 as a sergeant. Part of Nimoy’s time in the military was spent with the Army Special Services.

Leonard Nimoy

Nimoy was an accomplished actor, writer, director, poet, photographer, teacher, and pilot. He was even a recording artist. He had a master’s degree in Spanish and an honorary doctorate from Antioch University. He was more than just SPOCK. He even said so many times himself. He penned two books, one was “I Am Not Spock”. But that wasn’t such a bad thing, he later discovered. “Given the choice,” he wrote, “if I had to be someone else, I would be Spock.”

We received this letter in the mail from Kathy Cobb. I was reading in the last issue of BB Magazine a very interesting article you had in there. It truly caught my eye. The name of it was: “Never Judge A Book By It’s Cover”. That is a true statement. In 2007 I lost my husband and through my cousin we started going out some and he took me to a place called “The Hogs Pen. It was located in Macclesfield, N.C. It was owned and operated by a wonderful couple, Mike and Patsy Bullock. When I got there I wasn’t sure if I should be there or not because I hadn’t been out for a long time. But I became very close to Patsy. She introduced me to so many people. All were bikers. I wasn’t a biker but by the end of the night I had met a lot of wonderful and gracious people. Before that night I had never been around bikers so I wasn’t sure about myself. But I learned an important lesson that night BIKERS are the most loving and caring people you will ever meet! They are there for you no matter what. They have BIG HEARTS! They will go above and beyond the call of duty to help anyone they can. In their eyes you are a friend whether you ride or not. They made me feel like a part of them and made me feel right at home. I owe so much to MY BEST FRIEND PATSY for taking me that day and introducing me to so many wonderful people. There is no way I can begin to list all of those wonderful people. After this I got involved in benefits they did for different ones. Such a joy to be able to help people in need. Of all that I helped with, the one that stands out to me was the one that was planned for a great person, Cliff Jackson! It was amazing to see all the people that were there to lend a helping hand. That truly opened my eyes and I realized that the outside of a person doesn’t count. What counts is what’s on the inside and in the heart. As I said before, BIKERS have the biggest and greatest hearts! This is another thing that was so wonderful going to that bar...Mike and Paty kept saying the name Dany James. And I said, well I went to school with a Danny James and he was wild but sweet. Mike said, well he’s a preacher. I said, Oh no, it’s not the one I know then. But man did I get fooled! At this time, Patsy was planning my 51st birthday party and she said I am going to invite Him and his wife. I said OK. When that night finally arived I was so excited! I was walking around talking to people and Patsy came and got me by the arm and she said I have someone I want you to meet. So, we walked over there and she started to tell me who he was and I said OMG it is really the Danny James I know! This is a prime example that you should never judge a book by it’s cover because you can be fooled so bad. I was so happy to finally see him again and he introduced me to his wife, Lynn. Very sweet person. That Danny that I used to know had really changed and became a preacher and was the most loving and caring person! We connected so much that night and we talked about so much. He was truly a friend. He was there for me with all that I was going through. He gave me encouragement to keep moving forward. I consider this man, Danny James “Preacherman” my guardian angel. He led me to better things in my life. I thank God for the chance to see Danny again. I thank Him for all the praying Danny did for me. He said, Kathy I worry about you because you are my friend and a child of God. He said I want to see you get your life straight so I can see you in my Heavenly Home. Yes, I will s ay I miss him today because he was always there to talk to. So, with all that’s going on in my life I will never ever judge a person by looks. It will be by what’s in the heart. He had a strong backbone to walk with him and that is his wife, Lynn James! He told me so many times that Lynn was his eyeball and his blessing. So, for anyone or everyone who reads this, please live by this motto: NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY IT’S COVER!

Send us your photos, stories, ideas complaints... whatever. We would really love to hear from you! You can send via Email: behindbarzmm@suddenlink.net or Snail Mail: PO Box 692 Nashville, N.C. 27856

Don’t be skeered! WHAT I LOVE ABOUT HARLEY DAZE As I look at my Harley all black and so chrome I look down that highway for I need to roam I really get a kick out of shifting those gears And if I miss one it brings me to tears So as I take off so fast in the wind I hear my drag pipes roar and I start to grin And when I get back after riding all day I think to myself there’s no need for dismay For tomorrow will be another Harley day! your Health Balance

Behind Barz

We all may need balancing or alignment, be it how we walk or what we ride. Our bodies are fearfully and wonderfully made and yet at times we may feel “out of alignment”. Some people may have headaches, a limp, back pain, or neck pain as a result of misalignment. According to doctors and articles there are many ways to “re-align” ourselves be it inserts in our shoes, exercise, yoga, diet, prescription medication, physical therapy or a chiropractor. Back and neck pain are specialties of Chiropractors. Chiropractors may help to line up our spine and nervous system to work more efficiently. Chiropractors practice a type of alternative medicine to diagnose and perform treatments for misalignment of the musculoskeletal system. They do not prescribe medicines. I spoke to Dr. Gallagher, a Chiropractor in Goldsboro, North Carolina, and asked him about spinal alignments. He shared that we all will function through life. Be it malfunction or function in life as intended. Malfunction is joint misalignment, God don’t make junk and our joints need to be where they belong. He shared there are different ways to do an alignment by different doctors. Some will use instruments, like activators, which are spring loaded tools to deliver adjustment to the spine and directly to joints. Others will use drop tables, the Thompson technique. All treatments are administered after a thorough physical exam, health history and x-rays are completed. I asked how long do these adjustments last? He shared that after a person is aligned it takes time for the joints to heal in the right position. It depends on how long you were out of alignment. If it was a recent misalignment may be just a few treatments. If it happened a long time ago, it will take more treatments to realign. Each person will have a personal treatment plan that should be discussed with them. Talk to your family doctor, research information on line, or some Chiropractors will offer free consultations (be sure to call first to find out). They say many times a simple adjustment will make a big difference in setting you straight to help put you in balance. Health—mentally, physically and spiritually goes a long way in keeping you Behind Barz. Keep the rubber to the road and be safe.

Bill Lyerly is a well-known American roots rock artist from the US East Coast. His music is aired on AM, FM, satellite and internet radio stations all over the world. Lyerly’s most recent work, Too Hurt To Cry, was mastered at Abbey Road Studios in London, the most famous recording facility in the world.

Left: Dave Jordan (WITN News) came out with friends to enjoy the food and Bill Lyerly.

at The Sunny Side Oyster Bar We had a special Valentine’s Day this year. Bill Lyerly and his band were playing at Sunny Side Oyster Bar Seafood Restaurant in Williamston, N.C. So, we loaded up and went on down to see the show and sit at the the famous oyster bar and eat some marvelous seafood. It was a packed house, standing room only. This was my first time eating at Sunny Side. I assure you, it will not be my last! They shucked up some of the best oysters that I have ever eaten. And they were harvested just up the road in Englehard, N.C. The beer was cold and the oysters were fine. The highlight of our evening, though, was listening to and watching Bill and his band! They put on a heck of a show! It was practically standing room only!

Getting served in the oyster bar!

Lyerly formed his first band when he was 11 years old, and in high school he skipped class to rehearse. He performed with such greats as The Shirelles and Steppenwolf. After college Lyerly co-founded Super Grit Cowboy Band, one of the first alternative country bands. Later, a producer at RCA Records heard an “album” Bill had recorded at a small North Carolina studio. In 1980 Lyerly signed with RCA Nashville and joined Waylon Jennings as the only artist permitted to use his road band on his recordings. He began writing and recording albums and CDs, which include: Prodigal Son, Higher Ground, From The Old School, Railroad Station Blues, Cobalt Blues, Motel Room Blues, Requiem Mess, The Twang Years and Too Hurt To Cry.

In 1999 Cobalt Blues was released. This amazingly poetic and haunting line-up of songs was nominated for a total of five CAMMY Awards with Lyerly taking home Best New Artist in 2000. The list of major artists Lyerly has performed with includes many R&R and Country Music Hall of Famers and multiple Grammy winners including: John Lee Hooker, Bo Diddley, Gregg Allman, Leon Russell, Waylon Jennings, George Jones, REM, Bill Monroe, Steve Earle, Emmy Lou Harris, John Mayall, Levon Helm, Rick Nelson and many more.

By the end of the 80s, Lyerly’s music had evolved into a new sound, fusing Chicago Blues (Muddy Waters), Texas Blues (Freddie King) and British blues rock (early Eric Clapton).

View from the band’s perspective.

In 1998 Railroad Station Blues (Riviere International Records) was released in the US and Europe, receiving instant, rave reviews in Living Blues and Blues Revue.

We just love Bill Lyerly and this is the 2nd time that he has appeared on our cover!

What goes up must come down!

story and photo by: ESPB STAFF www.eatsleepplaybeaufort.com

What goes up, must come down. Beaufort, S.C. When you walk into the Johnson Creek Tavern on Harbor Island the first thing that hits you is the decor. It’s tradition at the local eatery for patrons, locals and tourists alike, to post a bill to the wall or ceiling as a record of their visit to the popular island spot. And many have. Thousands have. In fact more than 13,350 have. It was time for the money to come down on Saturday as the Tavern hosted a party for the removal of the dollars and their donation to the Honor Flight Network, which pays to transport WWII Vets to memorials in Washington,What goes up, must come down: Johnson Creek Tavern donates dollars to charity D.C. that have been erected in their honor.

$13,350 in total was removed and donated. Well beyond the $8,000 to $10,000 originally estimated. Tavern owner Jay Lloyd said, “It was an honor to make a contribution to such a great cause, our Veterans. We want to thank the Marines for all of their help today and to all of the volunteers and amazing customers for their donations and assistance.” Did you have a dollar stapled to the wall? We know we did. And, we’re glad to see it went to such a worthwhile cause.

25 local Marines from MCAS Beaufort joined in with a huge crowd of nearly 200 others to assist in the removal of the dollar bills from the walls and ceilings of the two dining rooms in the restaurant.

hello my happy riders from the mind of big ed

I cruised back home on my bike, still imagining this awesome display of power and thrill that passed before me. Then I started making the rumble noises with my mouth as my imagination kicked in. I too, was a bad a$$ biker I thought to myself, stirring dust and feeling the sense of freedom... It was one of the most spectacular things I ever saw and it was burnt in to my little kid mind forever!

Hello you happy people!! I don’t know how it started for me. Maybe my Dad being a biker...can’t really put my finger on it. I do remember one day when I was a little punk a$$ kid in the trailer park, just sitting on a cement block close to the highway. I’m guessing I was 12 maybe 13 years old and it was spring and the dandelions where peeking out of the green grass. I was digging for worms with one of my Mom’s big table spoons so I could go fishing. I heard this rumble...I could tell it was getting closer and closer. So, I stood up and looked in the direction that I thought it was coming from... and that’s when I saw it! A very large crew of patch holders were rolling thru. I say it was about 20 but I didn’t count. I could just tell it was many. Man, my heart raced as I heard the rumble and saw the chrome as they passed by! I just stood there, even tho they were going fast it seemed like slow motion to me at the time. I kept watching until I couldn’t no longer make out the tail lights and bags strapped to the sissy bars. I remember forgetting the fish at the pond and running to my house and grabbing my bicycle and peddling as hard as I could to see if I could watch them for a moment longer, but they were gone.

2235

Today I grabbed my leather gloves. I slid my feet into my boots and adjusted my boot knife for comfort. I threw on my leather and proudly placed my rags over my back. Slowly I adjusted my shades and looked into the side mirror. I fired up my Harley and let her oil pump thru her motor as I sat idle.I took a moment, closed my eyes and asked God to look over this wild child that I am, and also my brothers. I pulled in the clutch and hit the shifter and eased out on to the road with my brothers as we made another journey to see where the black top lands us. My mind played a song in my head as the club passes fields and houses until all I see and feel and hear is the rumble and rush of riding with my bros. My mind thinks back to that moment in the trailer park and the feeling I had as I watched that awesome sight as a kid. Wondering in my head was I the only kid who ever felt like that...but I know I won’t. ‘Cause there we were, me and the bros, two wheeling down a black top on our way to hit a party. On the highway we passed this car with a little boy in the back seat, with his face pressed against the door glass as if he was looking at candy thru a store front window. I could tell he was thinking we were the coolest thing he had ever seen and as we passed, I looked him in the eyes and waved and his face lit up with a smile! I knew there’s a bit of freedom seeking, wind chasing biker in all of us...

So, let’s keep chasing that breeze... And I will see you Behind Barz. Big Ed (2Timer)

CVMA

COMBAT VETS MOTORCYCLE ASSOCIATION

February 8th, 2015 Members from 3 CVMA Chapters took advantage of this years first 70 degree day to help out a disabled Vietnam Veteran with a gift card from Lowe’s. Chapter 15-1 from the Fayetteville area heard of a Veteran in need, made a $1000 donation for repairs to the man’s home then passed the word on to Chapter 15-6 from the Raleigh area. ‘Sheriff’, the Chapter Commander of 15-6 suggested to the members that in the spirit of ‘Veterans helping Veterans’, they purchase a gift card from Lowe’s so ‘Doc’ could do some needed repairs to his home. With the help of a friendly CVMA Chapter from Pennsylvania, they were able to present ‘Doc’ with a $450 gift card. If I seem vague over some details, it’s because I have been asked to respect ‘Doc’s’ privacy. A group of riders left from Garner, then joined up with more of us in Lillington. Mr. Mark ‘Marky-Mark’ Martin, a retired CW4 U.S. Army Master Aviator, and former Kiowa Warrior helicopter pilot held the pre-ride safety meeting and then assumed the position of ‘Lead Ship’ for the ride. Our next stop was the Johnsonville Veterans Memorial in Harnett County. 15-6 patched in a new member named Rich and we all got a stretch. Getting back on the road found me riding behind Beth ‘Pink’ Bryd who was riding her shiny new black 2015 H-D Softail Slim. This was Beth’s 2nd Harley, her first being a Sportster, so she was an experienced rider, but new to a full size bike. As we got close to the side road ‘Doc’ lived on, our lead riders had to slow down & search for the street signs, so they put their 4-way flashers on. That idea moved down the line so Beth & I did the same. That’s when Kilroy stepped in. I noticed that the riders in front of Beth were pulling away from her, and she was headed for the side of the road. Since I had her 6, and my flashers were already on, I stayed behind her & followed her to the edge of the pavement. She did everything right, didn’t panic, pulled over, emergency flashers on, got her bike re-started & we got in front of the trucks who were running interference for us. If you have a late model Harley, you probably know what happened. With her gloves on, she inadvertently bumped the kill switch when she pushed the flasher button. I’ve done it, I’m sure many of us have, but the important thing is that she kept her machine under control, moved to safety & got back in the action. Good job ‘Pink’ ! Even though ‘Doc’ knew we were coming, he wasn’t prepared for the onslaught of so many bikes, trikes, trucks & people who were there just to see him. He was visibly moved that so many folks would show up for one Veteran.

I got to speak with ‘Doc’ for a few minutes and ask him where the name ‘Doc’ came from. He told me that he was Army Infantry in Vietnam, and when his unit’s Medic was killed, he took over the job until a replacement could be found. When I handed him a new issue of Behind Barz Magazine, I pointed out the Veteran’s Day parades the CVMA attended. ‘Doc’ said that he had rounded up some local kids & drove them to Fayetteville to watch that parade so they could see for themselves many of the brave men & women who serve, and have served in America’s military. I have to admire ‘Doc’ on several levels. Over 75 members, supporters & friends of the NC Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association rode 50+ motorcycles, trikes & trucks to befriend one Vietnam Vet, thank him for his service, say “Welcome Home” and make his life a little easier. That’s AWESOME! Thanks to Mr. Martin for getting us there & back safely, ‘Sheriff’ for putting this ride together, ‘OB1’ for doing all that he does, ‘Raider’ for bringing the 15-1 members in from Fayetteville, the ladies for adding class & grace to our rides, our supporters, friends & Active Duty members, away from home, defending our Country. Always missed, never forgotten.

~ If an Accident Happens ~ By David Henson Managing partner of HensonFuerst Attorneys.

Sometimes, accidents happen. If you’re on a motorcycle, you’re at the mercy of every other motor vehicle driver on the road. Statistics show that if there’s a wreck, it’s probably not your fault, but that doesn’t make road rash heal any faster. *********************************************************

Just as it is important to take steps to prevent an accident, it’s important to know what to do if a wreck does happen. 1. If you are able, get yourself off the road. Leave the bike for now—just get yourself to safety. Once you’re off the road, you can evaluate the situation better. 2. Once you are in a safe place, call 911. Don’t assume someone else has called. You want to get help to the scene as quickly as possible. If another vehicle is involved, don’t let the driver convince you not to call—often a person driving without insurance will promise to pay for your damages, but good luck finding that person later. Plus, you want the police to document the scene and take statements from witnesses. 3. If you are hurt, let an ambulance take you to the hospital. After an accident, adrenalin kicks in. You might not know exactly how badly you are injured. If you delay medical treatment, you could end up with complications. 4. If possible, take photos of the scene with your cell phone, and ask other people to take photos, too. Get as many angles as possible. Document the position of vehicles, skid marks, and any other important detail.

26

5. While you’ve got your phone out, take identifying pictures of any other drivers and witnesses. This can include photos of license plates, insurance cards, and even faces. If possible, take video of witnesses stating their name and contact information. 6. Within hours of an accident, the insurance companies will start calling. They want to settle the case, and they can be aggressive. Don’t talk with them. North Carolina enforces a contributory negligence law, which means that if it can be proven that you contributed to an accident in any way, you can’t collect any compensation for your injuries that were a result of that accident. Insurance companies use this law to their advantage, and they will do everything they can to try to show that you somehow contributed to your accident. Anything you say will be recorded and used against you later. Never trust an insurance company to do what is “right.” 7. Call an attorney. You need someone on your side. Most motorcycle accident attorneys will give you a free consultation. Even if they don’t take your case, they will probably still give you valuable legal advice about how to proceed. What’s better than free legal advice? The best lawyers are those who are willing to invest the time in listening to your concerns, and who will then communicate with you in a compassionate and caring way.

RIDE SAFE!

Never Judge A Bo Sandwitch Christie Sanders Bikers are judged all the time simply because of the way they dress, their tattoos, maybe even because of their long hair and beards and certainly because they ride a motorcycle. It’s a fact of life that people sum up other people simply by the way they look. It’s not right. But if people can just look a little deeper, especially with bikers, they will find that bikers give more to society than any other group. Many would give the shirt off their back or the last dollar in their pocket to help someone else...and they do! We are all writing our own books...the past, the present and the future is in the works. The dust jacket may be a little dirty, grungy or completely torn off but it’s what’s inside that counts!

That old adage is true... Never, Ever Judge A Book By It’s Cover!

ook By It's Cover You know that feeling you get when you have met someone genuinely beautiful inside and outside? Well, that’s the feeling I got when I met Christie Merritt Sanders! Christie, aka Sandwitch, is one of those truly “real” people that you meet and right away you feel comfortable and welcomed in her presence. At first, Christie seemed to be a little skeptical about being featured in Behind Barz for this article. She didn’t think there was anything special about her story and she just laughed about not being photogenic and shrugged her shoulders. But there is something very special about Christie! Lots of things that make her a very special lady. Christie is married to Donnie Sanders, and together they have three beautiful daughters and two adorable grandchildren. Two of her daughters are special needs young ladies. Their youngest daughter Kailey loves to ride, also. Christie has overcome many obstacles in her life and has been blessed many times in her journey through life. When she was pregnant with her second child, her husband l eft her to raise her special needs babies alone. She divorced him and soon after bought her first motorcycle, a Honda Rebel, and taught herself to ride. She laughingly asked, “ Who does that? Who goes out and buys a bike when they are recently divorced and broke?” A very strong woman, that’s who! Christie worked as a housekeeper at the beach while raising her daughters who were in and out of hospitals for the first ten years of their lives. She decided to go to nursing school and has been a Labor and Delivery nurse for nine years. She is currently working on her Bachelor’s Degree. Christie has owned three bikes and currently rides a Harley Davidson 883 Sportster customized for her by her husband. She rides better than a lot of men I know! She has prospected right alongside her husband twice but does not hold a patch at this time. She tossed back her shoulders and proudly said, “I can throw a prospect bag together faster than most men!” It was a rare, warm and sunny day in February, when we did Christie’s interview, and as the sun shined on her smiling face, she told us that she dreams of just setting off cross country on her bike to see places she’s never seen. She says her family doesn’t understand why she rides but her Mom does tell her that everything she has ever set her mind to, she has accomplished. I asked Christie if she wanted to add anything to our interview and she had some powerful words. She replied, “ People always have preconceived ideas of what you should and shouldn’t do. I don’t think you should limit yourself to anything!”

VFW Memorial (Hwy 258)

Helping Support Veterans

We need your support! You are personally invited to come out for a day of fun, food, and music on April 18, 2015. This is the date of The American Legion Riders (ALR) Chapter 19 NC’s 5th Annual “Keep the Light On” Poker Run and Event day. We invite you and all your friends to join us at the Robert B Anderson American Legion Post 13, 2035 US Hwy 301, Wilson, NC 27893 in order to help ALR 19 NC raise money to support veterans and/or their families.

You will be helping support a host or programs such as; a local Veteran’s memorial. We, ALR 19, in 2011 accepted the responsibility and ownership of caring for a VFW Veteran Memorial on Hwy 258 in Edgecombe County. We are responsible for the nancial needs of this memorial. This memorial is lighted so that the ag can y free 24 hours a day. As most know, the American ag, unless lit, should be lowered during hours of darkness. It is raised at day break and lowered at dusk. In February of 2011 Mr. C J Webb a member of VFW Post 7777 and a family member Al Keel ask to come to an ALR 19 NC business meeng. At that meeng, they ask the chapter if they would be willing to take over the responsibility of supporng the memorial. We were a “new” chapter, but we accepted this responsibility proudly and have connued to support this memorial since that me. The memorial had been dedicated to the VFW in 1999 and Mr. Webb had taken ownership of it. But, Mr. Webb’s health was failing and he was looking for someone to step up and carry on this tradion. We were glad to accept this responsibility. This was the beginning of our rst event in support of this goal and 5 years later we connue that commitment. Other programs we are supporng with your help are the Legacy Scholarship Fund and the Colon Furr Nursing Scholarship Fund. Both of these are in support of one of the goals of the American Legion to support educaon. The Legacy Scholarship Fund was created to support young adults in their connuing educaon. These scholarships are provided to those adult students from families where a member of the family, lost their life in support of our freedom since 9/11. The Colon Furr Scholarship Fund is a state level American Legion goal to support nursing students that qualify, in their second year of nursing school. Addional goals that we, ALR 19 NC are raising money for is to provide funds for renovaon of Post 13, that are much needed. We are also making a donaon to the Veterans Museum in Tarboro, NC. This museum supports local veterans. Looking forward to your support for these worthy endeavors and hope to see you on April 18th!

Two-Wheeled Therapy (You never, ever see a Harley parked outside a psychiatrist’s office)

TIME A robin lands on the swirled razor wire A sign that spring is on the way People everywhere are loving the sun But to me it’s just another day

When I’m burnin’ with the need Like good ol’ Johnny Appleseed Spread myself far, thin and wide Squeeze the clutch, drop a gear I’m the hell outta here Down the road on my Electra Glide

Another day out in “The Yard” Lifting weights to pass cruel time Knowing that there’s nine years left As the change of my sentenced “Dime”

In and out of different towns Makin’ all appointed rounds Fly’n on a magic carpet ride Tank is full, lots more gears Have no worries, got no fears Down the road on my Electra Glide

The winter wasn’t that hard on me Pretty much passed it by staying inside But the sun and the first signs of spring Have this Brother Jonesing to take a ride

Call it two-wheeled therapy A recipe for sanity Freedom that will never be denied The rest is up to you my friend As for me, I’m in the wind Down the road on my Electra Glide

For just that few seconds as the rumble passes by Eyes closed and feeling fine Then as the rumble ceases into thin air I go back to lifting to pass cruel time © Bob “Bikerwolf” Bryant Road Scribes Of America ™ Bikeless

Kickstand up, snap 1st and go Leave it all , mend my mind Steel pony , free reins Feel the air , the horizon smiles Solo at peace , quiet roar Gentle giant , the asphalt winds Giving chase to nothing , no end Thankful to just ride the freedom

In this crazy world of have and have not, a bikeless biker is feeling distraught. His ride had to go...just so he could live. His soul now feels strained...like ran through a sieve. He already misses the rides that they took. He won't find escape, from reading no book. Off in the distance, he hears his ride roar… Sounds like it's angry, and anquished for sure. Together they travelled a great many miles. Sharing the road...sharing the smiles... smile emoticon Now he must continue to work to find way… to get back a rollin'...and send life astray. He knows that he will, he knows that he must, before all his joints just seize up and rust. The lifetime he spent a rollin' long lines, is just who he is...a biker defined...

Buffalo Chip to Become First Town Built By Bikers For Bikers™ Published on Friday, February 27, 2015 You’ve probably seen the news about the Buffalo Chip wanting to incorporate into its own municipality. The Chip has stayed unusually quiet during all of this, but now that the Meade County Commissioners Office has accepted the petition, we can let the cat out of the bag… By the time the 75th Sturgis Rally arrives, it's likely the Buffalo Chip will have become the first biker municipality in the world! That’s right Buffalo Chip Campground, LLC will sit within the town of Buffalo Chip, South Dakota. "We're extremely excited for the opportunities that come with the town of Buffalo Chip’s incorporation," says Buffalo Chip President Rod Woodruff. "Big things are definitely in the Chip’s future. The incorporation allows for improved economic development opportunities within the municipal boundaries that will benefit the entire region. We are looking forward to strengthening our relationship with the city of Sturgis to mutually promote these opportunities." The registered voters and founding members of Buffalo Chip, SD will vote on May 7, 2015 in an election to approve the incorporation. Behind Barz photo
