J’Ville Bike Bash

3rd Annual J’ville Bike Bash took place at the Coastal Plains Raceway in Jacksonville, NC on August 28, 2010. What an awesome turnout for this event! Beautiful skies and a great day for riding! Bike Bash is a non-profit entity focused on gathering bikes, bikers, and motorcycle enthusiasts of all kinds from around the surrounding areas for a safe, family friendly event while raising funds to aid two different charities each year, one international charity and one local charity. The Bike Bash Staff of volunteers is comprised of several different bikers from different groups which have volunteered to assist with the duties needed to make the event possible. Each year the volunteer staff gets together a list of possible charities to contribute to for that year. Once again CMA’s Run for the Son has been chosen for the International charity because 100% of the money given to the organization goes to 4 different mission fields to aid the biker community in the US and around the world. This year the local charity chosen was the Jacksonville USO because of what they do for our local service members who do so much for us and our community. It was a fast paced day of excitement and trills on and off the track with something for everyone! Cycle Nuts had their portable Dyno for anyone who wanted to check out the diagnostics of their machine. Crossroads Children’s Ministry had three huge inflatables for children to enjoy themselves on along with several other games and activities in the Kids Activity Area. The Food Vendors kept everyone fed and refreshed while the merchandise vendors had a variety of different items along with all the free display booths. The Custom Bike Show had ten different categories of bikes along with a People’s Choice for spectators to cast their vote for their favorite bike. The Stunt Shows, Drill Team performances, and Open Drag Strip rotated on the track all throughout the day keeping the crowd entertained at all times. “Thank You” to Coastal Plains Raceway for the use of their facility, along with their professional staff who operated the drag strip throughout the day. “Thank You” also goes out to the NC Precision Drill Team, Freedom Biker Church (opening prayer), and Lynn Neal (National Anthem) for the Opening Ceremony. 343 Memorial Ride sponsored by the Red Knights

The 343 Memorial Ride is sponsored each year in Wilmington, North Carolina by the Red Knights International Firfighters Motorcycle Club: North Carolina Chapter Six. The Red Knights International Firefighters Motorcycle Club is an international organization, founded in 1983 in Boylston, Mass., and made up entirely of firefighters and their families. The 343 is an escorted ride which takes place each year around the weekend of September 11, beginning at Britt Motorsports on 6431 Market Street and courses throughout the city led by police, fire and EMS units. The primary purpose of the ride, for motorcyclists around the region, is to bring attention to the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, and the attack on the World Trade Center, during which 343 firefighters lost their lives. Each of the first 343 motorcycles registered for the ride receive a “dog tag” upon which is engraved the name of one firefighter who lost his life in the attack on the World Trade Center on 9/11, and that motorcycle will ride representing the memory of that firefighter. Postride activities include a pig-picking, beverages, live music, special presentations, drawings and raffles. Proceeds each year benefit the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center in Chapel Hill, NC. Cost is $20 per motorcycle; $10 each passenger. Next year’s ride will mark the 10th anniversary of 9/11. Red Knights NC Chapter 6 are already hard at work planning the 2011 event. They enthusiastically anticipate that the 5th Annual 343 will be the biggest and best one ever, setting new marks for the number of bikes and funds raised for the North Carolina Burn Center, in memory of all who heroically and sacrificially gave their lives on September 11, 2001. New special events, entertainment, prizes and special guests are in the works for next year, so mark your calendars (dates will be announced soon) and make plans to be there with your scoots!

Anniversary Party

As temperatures began cooling off and the leaves began turning members of Nash County Southern Iron fired up the grills. On October 8th the guys opened up their Clubhouse to friends and family to help them celebrate their 1st Anniversary. UP a long winding path past a really nice pond you would find their Clubhouse, with a few old tobacco barns in the band and a big yard for parking way off the road. This is an ideal place to party. The guys had table and chairs set up for their guests to sit at especially when it came time to partake in the fantastic meal they had put together for their guests. With 3 grills going at one time Pee Wee had his hands full making sure it was all done to perfection and done it was. He had something for everyone: BBQ chicken was cooking on one grill, while Boston Butts were sizzling on another, and the last grill contained a pig grilled to a golden brown and ready for the Clubs guests to indulge. As the line of people filled their plates outside everyone went back inside to a room off of the bar area where a long table was set up overflowing with homemade side dishes prepared by the members ladies. After eating everyone sat back and relaxed while talking or just roamed around the grounds and checked out the Clubhouse. For those interested the Club had 2 tattoo artists on had to help you find the ink of your dreams. All the while, members from The Doghouse Retreat were busy setting up their equipment for the nights entertainment. Southern Iron had an outside bar with beer or jello shooters whenever you preferred. Inside those tending the bar were ready to fill your order, from beer, jello shooters, or mixed drinks and the bartenders were busy making sure their guests were happy. Around 830pm The Doghouse Retreat took the stage and began playing some really great tunes. The music fired up the crowd with several kicking off their shoes and dancing. At the first break the 50/50 drawing took place and the lucky guest holding the winning ticket was Deanna Collins. Deanna received $150.00 for her part of the 50/50 and shouted, â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;Who wants a beer?â&#x20AC;&#x2122;

Once The Doghouse Retreat came back on stage the crowd began dancing again to the sounds of the music and thoroughly enjoyed the tunes being played for them by the guys in the band. The band played well past midnight to the joy of the guests of the Club. Southern Iron of Nash County was completely prepared for those that came out to help them celebrate their 1st Anniversary. The guys had a wide range of food choices and all were extremely delicious. The Doghouse Retreat rocked the crowd with some excellent tunes, and the hospitality of the Club and its members was outstanding. They made each guest feel like they were at home and welcomed each to come back again. If this is a sample of what the Nash County Club plans for any future parties you really need to stop by for the next one. There is plenty of room for camping and a great bunch of guys eager to see that you have a good time. Congratulations on your Anniversary guys and may there be many more in the future.

Caring for Korah

On March 31st a precious little girl was born to the proud parents of Crystal and Jayson Darak at Duke University Hospital. This was no ordinary birth for when Crystal was 5 months pregnant a routine ultrasound showed a problem with her unborn child’s heart. Upon delivery, baby Korah was placed in the Duke University’s Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit with Hypo plastic Left Heart Syndrome. This disorder is a complex and rare heart disease that the left side of the heart is under developed, allowing limited blood flow to the lungs. Untreated Korah would have certainly died shortly after birth, but within 3 days of birth she had her first open heart surgery to insert a stint to help blood flow into her lungs. On April 28th, when Korah was supposed to come home, little Korah was taken back into surgery. All this was due to an infection and then she went back to the PICU where she remained until her release on June 28th. Although she has at least 2 more surgeries, she enjoys anything having to do with being outside. On October 8th a Benefit sponsored by The Doghouse and Wilson Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors to help raise funds to aide in her medical needs. When we arrived at the Doghouse our attention was caught by this precious little girl, Korah, with a sparkle in her eyes and a big smile on her face. After seeing this precious little girl we noticed several people in white t-shirts that simply stated, ‘Caring for Korah’, who were all volunteers to help wait on tables during the benefit.

Korahs mother Crystal has been giving constant care of all her needs since returning home from the hospital. With help from her mother and mother in law she administers Korahs medicine that must be given at exact times. Jayson, Korahs father is a government contractor in Afghanistan and was only allowed home for the birth of this daughter till after her surgeries, although he was home for this Benefit for a few days. By 8pm the bar was packed with many people eating, donating, purchasing 50/50 tickets, or bidding on one of the several items set out for the silent auction. Doghouse owner Steve Raper was thrilled with the growing crowd as members from Southern Iron MC and a member of Edgecombe So. Ghost Riders came out to help the little girl. Shortly after 8pm the band Easy St. cranked up to the thrill of the growing crowd. The Doghouse was full; the outside patio was packed with overflow on the sidewalk in front of the bar, with approximately 200 people there to help this little girl. When the band took their break the winning 50/50 number was called with the winning ticket being purchased and donated back to Korah way before the drawing the entire amount of $467.00 went to help this sick child. Immediately following the drawings the winners of the silent auction received their prizes. Once all prizes were given out Easy St. once again took the stage to continue playing for the crowd until around 1230am. The doghouse Sports Grill & Bar, the Wilson Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, and the parents of Korah, Crystal and Jayson Darak wish to thank everyone that came out to help this little girl. Once again the community, as well as, bikers alike, came out to help someone in need.

Tuscarora 25 Years As the weekend of September 25th quickly approached, the members of Tuscarora Motorcycle Club eagerly prepared the Clubhouse for their Fall Rally and 25th Anniversary Party. With the gates opening around 6pm on the 24th several friends came out to help the guys start the party off, with on guest from Southern Sin, OB, staying all night. Saturday morning brought more guests coming thru the gates and before the evening was over members from: Desperados, Brotherhood, Southern Sin, Frog Level, Southern Iron, Freedom Riders, Warriors, Lenoir Co. Ghost Riders, Veterans and CBA, joined in on the festivities. For those arriving early enough in the day, Hurricane had cooked up a black cauldron full of lima beans and sausages. Guests quickly emptied the pot leaving nothing but the broth. Meanwhile, guests continued to arrive to join the early arrivals. The members of Tuscarora welcomed their guests whole heartedly. The guys were busy making sure everyone was taken care of while the growing crowd mingled amongst themselves talking to friends about their summer rides and adventures on the open road. Meanwhile, memories of the Spring Rally were spoken of and the tragic aftermath with the death of Southern Iron member Gary ‘Crump’ Crumpler in a horrific accident on his way home that night. Others waited to see the outcome of the grand prized drawings to be held later that evening. Early afternoon brought the ladies of the members of the Club up with vehicles full of food for the growing crowd of friends. While Hurricane busied himself getting the chopping area ready for the pig once he took it up. As Hurricane says, ‘When you have cooked pigs as long as I have there is no reason to check it till it’s done.’ So, when he finally opened the top of the grill, the guests knew it wouldn’t be long before it would be time to chow down. With members inside the Clubhouse making sure everyone had plenty to drink, their ladies began bringing the food out. Hurricane and Assphalt took the pig up for chopping. Once the pig was chopped and placed in serving trays the crowd lined up to eagerly feed their growing hunger from smelling the alluring smells of the cooking pig all afternoon. Tuscarora pulled out a spread that would tempt any ones taste buds with – BBQ, slaw, potatoes, deviled eggs, green bean casserole, macaroni and cheese, pasta salad, baked beans and of course the banana pudding that is always so good. It is usually gone quickly so you have to be fast to get some of it. Shortly after everyone had finished eating, the nights entertainment – Automag, took to the stage. These guys actually rock playing a selection of classic favorites mixed with a variety of their own songs. They had the party hopping! After the first set, Chaser took the stage ready to give out door prizes. Tuscarora always gets the crowd going during this part of the evening with guests calling out numbers hoping theirs would be called for a chance to win something. The big door prize winners were Gina Rowland and Johnnie King, with each taking home equal prizes from the drawings. However, anticipation was in the air as the drawings for the Grand Prizes was about to begin. Tuscarora always has awesome grand prizes and this year was no exception with a 50 inch plasma, flat screen TV up for grabs. Many guests had purchased tickets throughout the evening in hopes that their name would be called. As the tickets were drawn everyone held their breath while the winner of the 3rd place prize of $50.00 went to Sherry Franklin. 2nd place prize went to Mike Dechants, and the winner of the Grand Prize was – Paula Coley. Paula came with the band and originally asked for 5 tickets, but was given 6 instead. Honest as she is she told the person selling the tickets they had given her one too many so she gave them an extra dollar for the ticket. Paula felt that was the lucky ticket that won her the TV. With the drawings over, everyone settled down to listen to the sounds of Automag for the rest of the evening.

Although these guys have been together for 25 years and have 25 years worth of parties under their belts, every year the party gets better than the previous year. The Tuscarora Motorcycle Club has great hospitality, an awesome spread of food to chow down on, great door prizes, and fantastic Grand Prize drawings (once and year). The parties they have get better every time, so once again an OUTSTANDING time for all attending! I for one am looking forward to the Spring Rally 2011. So see ya’ll there.

Dickie Wells...

32nd Annual Memorial Run

On September 18th, Southern Sin Motorcycle Club held their 32nd Annual Dickie Wells Memorial Run. The run and party was hosted by Horace and Brenda at Good Tymes Bar in Rocky Mount, NC due to a fire that burnt the Clubs Clubhouse earlier this year. The Club was ready for the expected crowd that this event always brings. As good friends and long time supports of the Club, Horace and Brenda, owners of Good Tymes, had stocked the bar well also in expectation of a large crowd that day. Party goers started arriving early to make a complete day of the event with members from the: Wingmen, Desperados, Brotherhood, Southern Iron (Wilson, Nash, and Edgecombe Chapters), Tuscarora, Frog Level, and Wayne County Ghost Riders, with members from CBA, as well as, several friends and independents showing up to pay their respects for the loss of fallen club members of Southern Sin. Early arrivals were treated to the sounds of our dear friend, D.J. Erma Smith. Erma is a strong supporter of the Club and sister of former Club President Tom Smith. She is known by one and all, as well as, loved by everyone for her outgoing personality and great smile. The tunes Ms Erma was playing helped members Bobby Little and Greg Willis, sit back and relax for a bit, since they had been up early getting the Boston butts on the grill, so they would be ready when the Run returned. At 4; 00pm a total of 30 bikes lined up to make the ride to pay their respects to the members of the SSMC that had taken their final ride. At 4;30 the riders left Good Tymes, with a Sheriff’s escort, for the final resting place of Richard ‘Dickie’ Wells, who passed away due to a tragic accident, but while doing what he loved…RIDING. After saying a few words about Dickie, by OB, we moved over to fallen member Thomas “Tommy” Batchelor. Memories of Tommy included the fact that he loved a ham sandwich and he was the only one they knew that rode his Pan head with a horse saddle as a seat. (While there the names of members: Jake Collins, Kenny Banks, and Gene Baker, were also mentioned although their resting places too far to ride too their names are important for it to be a true memorial to all Sin members.) After everyone had said or related their fond memories we headed back to the bikes to head back out on the road and the resting place to Thomas ‘Tom’ Smith. With the Nash County Sheriff’s Department still escorting the ride, it was an awesome sight to watch passers move over and stop as the precession of bikes rode past to the Smith home, where our friend and former President Tom Smith had been laid to rest. Once arriving at the Smith home a Southern Sin Prospect arrived with 2 cases of beer to drink one for Tom. Tom was loved by all, especially the ladies who always had a picture taken with him at all of the Clubs parties. He fought a battle with a silent adversary that seldom lets go and takes no prisoners…CANCER. Although, he was in pain Tom always had a smile and never complained. He was truly one of a kind, true to his family and his Club. Tome is respected by all that met him. As riders drank their beers, some poured some of theirs on Tom’s grave while OB spoke of hid dear friend. Asking if anyone else had something to say, on individual said, “To Tom”, while raising their drink in a salute to their fallen friend. We headed back tout ot the road thinking we were headed back to Good Tymes, but we were all surprised as we made an unexpected stop…to the unveiling of the Clubs new Clubhouse. The New Clubhouse is slightly off of the road with a few barns in the yard, but once inside you can tell the guys had done a lot of work to get it ready for this day. Members opened the bar for a bit so the riders could enjoy a drink in their new house as their special guests. Once all had finished their drinks back outside we went and the roar of the bikes once again was heard going down the road as they rode two by two headed back to Good Tymes. As we arrived back at the bar the crowd had grown significantly while we were gone. Once back the riders till talked about the new Clubhouse the Club members started setting up the tables and putting out the food for their guests. All in all it was a feast and the Club went all out with: BBQ, potato salad, green bean casserole, boiled potatoes, deviled eggs, baked beans, Brunswick stew, string beans and several desserts including a Southern Sin cake (that was absolutely sinful to eat but delicious. My hat goes off to Bill Chessons wife who made a decorated that cake.) After everyone had eaten their fill, Ten Feet Thick, cranked up the sounds of some fine tunes (with a little breaker problem), l the rocked the crowd till closing. To Horace and Brenda of Good Tymes a work of Thanks for your hospitality to us all for allowing Southern Sin to have this event at your establishment. The members of Southern Sin once again pulled off a party to remember. From the tunes of Erma Smith, the ride full of memories, the grand showing of the new Clubhouse, the delicious spread of food, the delightful tunes of Ten Feet Thick, and the always…AWESOME feeling of family amongst the crowd.

Once again these guys have outdone themselves to see that their guests had a really GREAT time. I look forward to the Grand Opening Party of the new Clubhouse…till then: Ride on, Party Hard, and Sin if you can.

The weekend of 9/11 is remembered by one and all as the worst terrorist act against our great country, The United States of America. For the Dragon Slayers MC it was a time to bring the reality of the anniversary to light for many while helping other firefighters and opening their Clubhouse up to friends, family, and other clubs. With the threat of bad weather coming in on Sunday the party began early with the members from the Desperados, No Rules Riders, and CBA coming to party with the Club, as well as, many independents. The sound of the band, Stackhouse, filled the grounds to the growing crowds delight. Vendors were on hand to sell shirts and other merchandise to whomever was interested. However, an unexpected rain shower fell Saturday afternoon that forced the band to pack up early. So the members of the Club took out a stereo and kept the music going. As the partiers were mingling amongst themselves, after the rain, the Reverse drawing for $5,000.00 in cold hard cash was well on its way. As the drawing got down to the last 5 names the holders of those tickets decided to split the money up and each received $1,000.00 a piece. So, Clarence Harbour, Damon Taylor, Tabitha Keeter, Kenny Barnhill (CBA), and Pam Quick were each given $1,000. After the split was agreed to the stress was off so they decided to see who would have won if it wasn’t split. Although he only got $1,000, if he hadn’t agreed to the split the last name in the drawing would have been Damon Taylor. After the drawing Dragon Slayer Prospect, ‘Lil Mark’, decided to try out the burn out pit. The back tire popped after about 5 minutes of burning rubber and the crowd applauded his success. The Club had some awesome cheeseburgers, BBQ sandwiches, and hot dogs (all hand turned and cooked under the excellent eye of Bart ) for their guests that were hungry. The cheeseburgers were really good and looked to have been hand patted out. With the evening winding down and the rain coming in early, the Club had done a GREAT job showing everyone a really good time. All proceeds from the party went to FAAFF – Firefighters Assisting Armed Forces Families, NC Fallen Fire Fighters Foundation, and Wake County Feed the Firefighters. The Dragon Slayers MC is made up of retired, voluntary and active firefighters and this party was a great way to help those who have suffered in the past, etc. This was a great way to help out these families on the anniversary of the tragic loss of so many. A GREAT JOB guys….my hat goes off to you! All donations were tax deductable and for a good cause. Many of us have seen these men risk their lives to save our belongings, as well as, peril in the act of doing their jobs. To many, the remembrances of all the firefighters that perished in New York when the planes hit the World Trade Center and those that have suffered illnesses since from the dust afterwards gave their all to help their fellow man kind. Four of the five reverse drawing winners! To the families of those brave men and women that gave the ultimate price we as Americans still morn your heroic acts and the lost of your loved ones.

Father, husband, son, brother, and friend are just a few of the helmets that Robert Russell wore until his untimely death on September 4, 2010. Robert Nelson Russell Jr. was born December 24, 1983 and grew up in the small town of Nashville, NC. He graduated from Southern Nash High School and went on to join the Army as a light wheel mechanic.

During his time in the Army he was sent to serve in Germany for two years and that is where he met his wife, Ronni. Ronni had just recently been assigned to Germany with the Air Force. In December 2005, Robert ask Ronni to marry him and they were married in February of 2006 at Fellowship Church, where Robert grew up. Robert loved his wife and his children very much. They have three children, Cody 9, Eli 5 and Jon 3. In 2007, the Air Force relocated Ronni to Florida. Florida is where the biker in Robert started to come alive. He had always loved riding motorcycles but now he would have the opportunity to fulfill that dream. The first thing Robert did was become a member of AM VETS. This not only gave him a chance to be around other veterans but to help people in his community. He had a heart for people and helping the less fortunate. The first thing he helped with was the Thanksgiving and Christmas meals on wheels program. In 2009, he helped cook, box and deliver over 250 meals for both holidays. "He always volunteered to cook for fundraisers and participated in our POW/MIA recognition ceremony," said JR Ethridge, fellow veteran and friend of Robert. He also had become a Patriot Guard rider. He also volunteered for the annual Homeless Veterans Stand Down. This is a program where the community gets together and provides necessities to prepare our homeless vets for winter. Besides clothes, there are also doctors, lawyers, dentist and a judge to clear minor offenses.

He went on every charity poker run he was available for. He participated in the Crestview Toys for Kids run, where they had over 700 bikes and the toys and proceeds went to local children. He also participated in an Escort Ride for "the Wall that Heals", which is a traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall. In April 2010, he started riding with the Saints of Lost Souls. In June he began officially prospecting with the club and he was to receive his Cut on September 5, 2010. He came to know his fellow club members not only as friends and fellow riders, but Brothers with a common love of country and family and his fellow man. He wasn't a bunch of talk. He was a get it done type of guy. He was loyal to a fault and would give you the shirt off of his back. He left an amazing legacy for his family and friends to follow. So lets get out there on this highway called life and ride with a purpose and cause and live up to the legacy that was and is Robert's life!

On October 2nd it was the perfect day...sunny skies and 75 degree temps! Today was our very first poker run here at Whiskey Dick's Saloon and we started out the day with positive thoughts and lots of excitement!!! One of our bartenders read an article about Thomas King and she looked at me and said WE should do something to help!! Clayton Baby, Thomas King, In Need of Life-Saving Transplant Transplants can often exceeding $500,000 and many transplant patients are unable to shoulder the financial burden of such a procedure. The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) is a national charity dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising funds for transplant-needy patients. Thomas’s family has asked for assistance from the Children’s Organ Transplant Association. The organization’s priority is to assure that no child is denied a transplant or excluded from a transplant waiting list due to lack of funds. One hundred percent of all funds raised are used for patients’ transplant-related expenses. Thomas was born on April 28, 2009.and was diagnosed with Hirschsprung’s Disease. Doctors at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina recommended a life-saving small bowel transplant. Thomas is the son of Ryan and Tabitha King, and the brother of Zoey and Ryan King Jr. His grandparents are Tim and Debbie King, and Robin and Terry Smith. Donations may be mailed to the Children’s Organ Transplant Association, 2501 West COTA Drive, Bloomington, Indiana, 47403. Checks or money orders should be made payable to COTA, with “In Honor of Thomas K.” written on the memo line of the check. Secure credit card donations are also accepted online at www.COTAforThomasK.com. After learning about Thomas we talked with the rest of the team. We all felt the same way – we needed to do something to help. All the employees worked hard getting door prizes and auction items! It is amazing how people will come together as a team to help someone they don’t even know!! I have put on several poker runs over the years at a friend's bar but this was the first at my own bar, here in N.C., and it was the first with this group of employees...so, I was really wanting to do it right. I had plans to be out of town, however after a few small problems I decided to return home to be here for this run - man I am glad I did!! Although it was bike week in Myrtle Beach, S.C., we still had a good turn out and even though we didn’t have as many bikes as we would have liked, everyone who participated or volunteered had a great time. Doug, Rhett, & I cooked over 100 lbs. of Chicken, donated by Case Farms. Thanks to Mavin!! We cooked 4 gallons of BBQ potatoes and 3 gallons of green beans! At the end of the day there was nothing left!!! We had plenty of door prizes, a 50/50 drawing and several auction items. A local resident and friend won the best hand and Mavin won the worst hand. Both riders donated their winnings back - Thanks guys!! The 50/50 was won by a local Airman stationed at Seymore Johnson Air Force Base, Kyle Lafferty. Doug offered an additional $100 if he donated it back!!! Kyle gladly obliged. Another local airman Sgt. Ben Rhodes also donated $300.00. This says a lot for our guys in uniform! We all know that they don’t make the best pay checks while serving and protecting our freedom, so for these guys to help out like this, it means a lot. Thank you to Kyle, Ben and all the other men and women serving in our military!! One of our bartenders’ sister added another $200.00. We auctioned off a couple of Kasey Khane Budweiser jackets, a grill, and several other items, as well. All of these helped increase the total amount raised. Special thanks to Jerry at Morgans Bar, Charley Blalock at Country Time tavern, and Heidi at Heidi’s two wheel cafe and everyone else who helped make this charity poker run a huge success. These three not only served as locations for the poker run but donated cash to the cause! I called Ryan and Tabitha King on Monday to tell them about our run, they told me Thomas was doing well, but it is a continued battle back and forth to see Doctors. When I told them we had raised $3,500.00 they were surprised and VERY THANKFUL!! From all the staff of Whiskey Dick's Saloon and all the people who made this possible, we wish Thomas and his family the very best. We are glad that we could help make a difference..

Autism Awareness On September 11, 2010 Mike and Heather Summers along with many volunteers from Team Thomas came together at the Doghouse Sports Grill for a huge fundraiser for the Autism Society. The team had been planning this event for months and they had all put a lot of hard work and effort into making it a success. Steve Raper was kind enough to be there on a Saturday and take time away from his own family to help out. The day started off at Noon in the parking lot with games for the kids. There were around 7 different games set up just outside the Doghouse Grill along with a table for face painting. Many kids enjoyed having their full faces painted, arms or hands painted or just their cheeks. Chick-fil-a of Wilson let Team Thomas borrow their spinning wheel for a game, gave some coupons for prizes and even brought out the cow for the kids. The fire department showed up with a fire truck and this was truly a highlight for Thomas! The kids could buy tickets and then play the games and win prizes and candy. They all seem to really enjoy it and have a good time, next year we hope to have many more games out there and even more volunteers! Around 5PM it began to rain so Team Thomas had to take down all of the games and pack them up and move inside the Doghouse Grill. They set up a table inside with information about Autism, t-shirts, bracelets and pins. Inside were the silent auction items that were donated and Team Thomas was fortunate enough to have around 50 items donated that day! So many people wanted to be a part of this event in one way or another. We had volunteer waitresses from Barton’s sorority, Phi Mu, and they did an excellent job that evening! We really appreciate them coming out and taking time from their day to help us out. Once the team got inside the band arrived, The Mason Smith Band. They set up and began to warm up. The band started at 8PM and they were great! Many more people showed up throughout the evening. Some came for dinner, some just for the band and others just stopped by to see how things were going. We had over 30 team members that showed up and rotated throughout the 12 hours that day. The event ended at Midnight and we truly could not have done it without all of the helping hands that came. That night we raised over $2,000 and in total so far we have raised a little over $3,500! All of the proceeds have gone to the Autism Society of North Carolina. Team Thomas is walking on October 9 in Moore Square in Raleigh NC. So far we have a total of 23 team members signed up to join us. We welcome anyone who would like to walk with us that day! PUPS ON A MISSION Greetings and blessings... Some of you are aware that we at Healing Ministries Retreat were running a pilot program involving producing quality pedigree puppies to donate to the service organizations; well, this got completed today! The remainder of the litter (Johnnie 5, Chase and Hoss) went to K2Solutions to be raised and eventually trained to sniff out IEDs that are killing our soldiers in Afghanistan. It was a bitter sweet moment when we saw them finally leave. The final numbers went to these places: 6 went to be trained to help the blind have more independent living, 1 went to the Canine Partners For Life to be trained to help their new owner meet their physical/emotional needs, 1 we had to keep local because his growth was a little slower than the other puppies and the last three went to be trained to work with the soldiers in our military with hope they can save a life from being blown up by those IEDs on the roads. We ask for your prayers over these soon to be service dogs for their protection, training and use in the fields the Lord wants to use them in. As stated earlier, this is a pilot program and we have hope we can start this again in the near future when the Retreat finally gets built and running. In Memory of a Brother A smile always, friendship and brotherhood undying and devoted. This was the man that we all knew as Hammer, Steven Carson Johnson, of the Duplin County Ghostriders. Since joining the Ghostriders over two years ago he devoted his loyalty and friendship to so many. But, sadly, this wonderful person passed away on August 7, 2010. Hammer loved his family without doubt and was a very special father to his five sons and a best friend in the world to his wonderful wife Nancy. The Motorcyclist Prayer says that we are thankful for God by our side as we ride and Hammer has definitely had him by his side this last year. After hitting a deer a year ago on his bike he underwent several surgeries on his broken leg. He wore a metal cage surrounding his leg with pins to hopefully help it heal; it did not and had just recently been put into a cast. The week before his passing he had just underwent the last surgery that would hopefully finally fix his leg where once again he could ride free with us and enjoy the breeze in his face. This was what he wanted so badly and what we couldn’t wait to share with him again.

There will be many that miss this man for some time to come and no one can ever replace him in our hearts. There is an empty spot in the club now and we are all at a loss. Memories and pictures are what we have left and we will share them forever with his wife and sons and each other as the days pass. Many memorial runs such as the one being held in Wilson County August 14th will hopefully be held over time to try and help this family cope during this time. Prayers and thoughts will continue to be needed and appreciated for his family and friends. The funeral was held on August 12, 2010. Steve “Hammer” Johnson is survived by his loving wife, Nancy and his parents, Ann and Fred. He also shared a special bond with his fellow GRMC brother and lifetime brother Joe “Malice”. He also has five very smart, wise and wonderful sons that he was so very proud of. Steven, Levi, Joshua, Justin and Jamie will all carry a special place in their hearts for him forever and us as a motorcycle riding family need to make sure they have our support in their lives. The music at the service was beyond beautiful and the words that were spoken in memory of Hammer touched us all. Many different clubs came together to sit in memory of Hammer and the friend that he was to them all. Never without a smile on his face and never a complaint coming from him, was Hammer an inspiration to us all. Ride free and look upon us now my friend and know that you were and always will be sorely missed and loved in our hearts forever.

By: BJ Bush and Johnnie King The Memorial Run was held by the Wilson County Ghostriders in memory of their brother and friend, Steve ‘Hammer’ Johnson. There were well over 30 riders participating in this run to help the family of Hammer. Ghost Riders from Wilson, Nash, Lenior, Edgecombe, Duplin and Scotland Counties all came out to join the cause, as well as, Southern Riders, Veterans, and Bikers for Christ. The run started at the Wilson Clubhouse and went to Wendy Trails in Stantonsburg where Debra and Bob Burke from CBA were there to help the riders quench their thirst at the bar, as well as, offer food for those that were hungry. After a drink or two the riders saddled up and headed to Wilson and Carolina Billiards, where once again they were met by a warm smile and ice cold beer. Once the cards were pulled the group hit the road again heading for the Breeze in Elm City where they pulled their last card before heading back to the Clubhouse. Talking and remembering their lost friend the riders spoke of times gone by and things they had done with Hammer while he was with the Club at the stops along the way. After the cards were pulled yet again, the riders cranked up the bikes and headed back to the Clubhouse where a growing crowd met them. Although the crowd was seemingly small in nature the hands for the run did not show it, for the Ghostrider Chapters from out of state had sent in money for Ghost hands to aid in this cause for a dear friend and brother who had fought so hard to overcome the problems he was having with his leg after the accident. As the night progressed, friends of Hammer arrived to help raise money to aid the family in this time of need. With the passing of a dear friend, brother to all, husband and father, Hammer, showed everyone the meaning of faith and determination with his battle to recuperate from his accident a year ago. Although he fought to the end he never stopped fighting or smiling with words of encouragement to all he saw or talked to. Hammer left a wife and 5 sons to carry on without him, but sadly there was no insurance for he had been out of work for so long due to his leg, and his wife is on disability making it hard for the family to overcome this tragic lost. Altogether the approximate amount collected for the family in this time of grief was $1000.00. The family has lost a husband and a father, as the Club has lost a Brother….to all of those concerned we would like to send our Sympathies on the passing of their loved one….Hammer.

Had the pleasure of cruising on over to Spring Hope Saturday, Oct. 15th to attend Biker Barn’s annual Open House. Whee doggie... I was treated to the absolute best grilled pork chops ( thick & juicy ), homemade chili, slaw, baked beans, potatoes ‘n cheese, homemade deserts the likes of which I haven’t enjoyed since I was a youngster eatin at Granny’s. Banana pudding with real homemade meringue !!! Who does that anymore ? I met Gary ( the owner ) and have to say that he and his entire crew are a down-home friendly bunch that are extremely talented. They built the 2009 Easyriders Charlotte ‘Best of Show Bagger’ , custom “triked out” Softail dubbed the ‘Doobie Trike’ both of which have been featured on the cover of this magazine and were on display along with other creations of theirs which were all awesome ! These folks put on this annual throw down ALL FOR FREE each year to show their friends & customers how much they appreciate them. If you‘ve never been ... pardner you need to put this on your calendar for next year fer sure. I’ve heard for some time from friends how talented these folks are and how they go out of their way to satisfy their customers and have to say.... after having met them ... they really live up to their reputation. Christmas is coming up fast for Give2thetroops! We just figured up yesterday that we will have about 860-900 troops who serve are points of contacts to receive care packages and distribute to their buddies. So we need items to fill a minimum of 900 packages to serve about 18,000 troops. The postage costs for those packages will be about $18,000. We also need items to pack in packages that local bases will be picking up to ship themselves. Last year we served about 78,000 troops for the holidays and we are praying we have the continued support from Americans who appreciate our troops' dedication and bravery. Rolling Thunder Inc. Franklinton , N.C. North Carolina Chapter 7 October 2nd started off to be a brisk morning in Creedmoor, the first of the fall. Rolling Thunder Inc®, North Carolina Chapter 7 was ready, ready for the kick off of their First Annual Rolling Thunder NC7 Bike Show and Military Appreciation Rally. The cool fall weather gave way to a warm sun and Carolina Blue skies and the Bikes rolled in. Rolling Thunder NC7 Committee Chairman Randy Grosskopf and the Show’s Production Manager Tommy Keith, SgtMaj USA Ret stood in amazement as the bikes kept coming. The crowd beat all expectations with over 140 Motorcycles on the lot and 50 Bikes registered to compete, some in Multiple Categories. Vendors from as far as Statesville NC came to show and sell their wares. Among them, Cruiserworks of Roxboro who also gave a wonderful $300 value donation toward the Raffle, a Brand New pair of Riding Boots, moisture wicking shirt and Boot Care Products, also on board were Alamo Customs Leather, Greg’s Vinyl Stickers, Busted Knuckle Motorcycle Shop of Creedmoor, militarycustomma.com of Statesville, Keith Mills Sterling of Statesville were all on hand. Items also donated from various local Bike Shops and businesses contributed, of those The Widow Maker, C&C Performance, Twin Specialties, Bonedaddy’s, Maxson’s, Gregory Poole, Fox’s Suzuki, Champs Tire, Auto Zone, Advance Auto, Eternal Ink and other local Business’s. Also among the raffled items, a 1500lb Bike Lift and a Dual Deltran Battery Tender. The NC Blue Star Mom’s were on hand and running their own fund raiser where they gave away a beautiful Handmade Quilt, all monies going directly to their Holiday Mailing Campaign, the Gold Stars Moms and Honor and Remember were also on hand to promote and advance their causes. A Great Day was had by all who came! Rolling Thunder NC7 would like to thank all who came out and supported this in what will now be an annual event. A big congratulation goes out to Joe Medlin of Roxboro who took home over $500 in prize money from the 50/50. All proceeds from this event will go directly back out to Rolling Thunder NC7 Charities to Support the Troops. A very Special Thank You to Behind Barz Magazine for Supporting RTNC7 and giving full coverage of this very successful event.

Miracle Legue Ride Sponsored by No Rules Riders

The Miracle League is a baseball league that gives ALL disabled children the chance to play baseball...even children who are blind, have Cerebral Palsy, or Downâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Syndrome or even if they are in a wheelchair. The Miracle League Ride is a Motorcycle Charity Ride in Raleigh, NC that raises money for The Miracle League of the Triangle. The day of the Miracle League Ride and before the game these atheletes visit with the motorcycle riders and even get to sit on the bikes. This organization is non-profit and there are over 200 ML organizations across the country. The No Rules Riders make sure that this event is successful every year and this year was no exception.
