About the author...
Doobie was born in Rapid City, S.D. at Ellsworth Air Force Base. When she was just six months old, she and her family moved to Rocky Mount, N.C., while her dad was sent overseas during the Vietnam war. At the age of ten months, she was airlifted to Duke Medical Center in Durham, N.C. because of a tumor that had taken over one of her kidneys. She was given a 50/50 shot at survival. Almost eighteen years later, after moving out on her own and never having ridden a motorcycle, she decided to buy a bike. Needless to say, two weeks later she earned her wings by totally destroying her bike and ending up in the hospital for a few days. After receiving a ticket from the local HP, she learned two things about riding a motorcycle - you need a motorcycle license and you have to stay awake while riding! Ask her about that little tid-bit some time if you are interested! Twenty years later, Doobie was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer - a sarcoma in her spinal column. Again she went to Duke, but this time the prognoses was not good. First of all, she was told she would never walk again and secondly, they didn’t even know if they could touch the cancer. One thing was for sure, it was inoperable! BUT, against all odds, Duke saved her life again! Doobie went through several grueling rounds of chemotherapy and radiation and long arduous physical therapy sessions. “Without a great team of doctors, God in my life, a wonderful family and some mighty awesome friends, I never would have made it through that!”
“Doobie”
There was unrepairable nerve damage to her left leg so, Doobie recently had her bike triked. Gary and the crew at The Biker Barn in Pilot, N.C. converted Doobie’s ‘99 Softail Custom into a trike! Thanks to all who made that possible!
See ya on the road!

Who is the outlaw and who is the angel? That just might surprise you! Outlawz & Angelz could be described as a photographic essay with just a little flair. Included here are various bikers, from all walks of life, who ride an eclectic array of motorcycles. The biker lifestyle is brought to life within these pages with just a few short questions. Even though a photo is worth a thousand words, a few extra questions that you might never ask of a biker are asked here in this book. It’s a small look into the biker phsychy...just a hint of what lies under that do-rag and bug laden helmet...and some of the answers are quite hysterical. Editor of Behind Barz Motorcycle Magazine, Debbie “Doobie” Sykes, has compiled some of her favorite photos of each biker to go along with the questions. Bikers are some of the most over exagerated and underestimated group of people on the planet! Your first impression of a biker is usually the wrong impression! There are so many examples of evil bikers in the main stream media, in movies and on television, that it isn’t any wonder why we, “the bikers”, get a bad rap. Maybe this book will shed a little light on that very subject by letting you see the unrehearsed and unpromptrd biker answer some of lifes most simple questions...no teleprompters here! Outlawz & Angelz is as down home as your favorite bike shop and as in your face as a splattered anthropod on your helmet! It’s for young hipsters, grizzled old timers and everyone in between! Outlawz & Angelz is the first in a series of books by Sykes.
