Editorial | Editorial Dear readers, Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the histories and cultures of people whose ancestors came from Latin countries and Spain. This month is also about recognizing the contributions Hispanic American citizens, like the soldiers who are overseas, Nobel Prize in Physics recipient Luis W. Alvarez and Nobel Prize in Physiology recipient Severo Ochoa. The city of Doral has multiple events and activities planned this month to celebrate Hispanic culture, beginning September 15 with the Hispanic Art Expressions Gallery Night in Doral Park Country Club. Also, Miami International Mall invites you to your 7th Annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration. On Friday, September 30th at 6pm they will be hosting a charitable cocktail, taste of the nations, award ceremony recognizing notable Hispanics and a high-end fashion show to benefit the League Against Cancer (La Liga Contra el Cancer) and Simon Youth Foundation. Hispanic Heritage Month is an important time for the Latin community. This is a time to get to know Hispanic cultures and to meet new people. It is important for Americans to take time acknowledging our successes, and at last go deeper with their gestures of gratitude for this rich and diverse culture.

Amigos lectores, El Mes de la Herencia Hispana celebra la historia y la cultura de las personas cuyos ancestros provienen de países de toda América y España. Este mes también se trata de reconocer las contribuciones de los ciudadanos estadounidenses hispanos, al igual que los soldados que están en el extranjero, así como al Premio Nobel de Física, el Sr. Luis W. Alvarez y Premio Nobel de Fisiología, el Sr.Severo Ochoa. La ciudad de Doral tiene múltiples eventos y actividades programadas este mes para celebrar la cultura hispana, a partir de 15 de septiembre con la Noche de Galería de Arte expresiones hispana en Doral Park Country Club. Además, Miami International Mall invita a su séptima celebración anual de la Herencia Hispana. El viernes 30 a las 6:00 pm será el anfitrión de un cóctel de beneficencia, el sabor de las naciones, entrega de premios y reconocimiento de los hispanos notables y un desfile de moda de alta calidad en beneficio de la Liga Contra el Cáncer y Simon Youth Foundation. El Mes de la Herencia Hispana es un momento importante para la comunidad latina. Este es un momento para conocer las culturas hispanas y de conocer gente nueva. Es importante que los americanos tomen tiempo para reconocer estos logros, a fin de profundizar su agradecimiento por esta cultura rica y diversa.

City of Doral Building Task Force presents final report

By Dominique Barba Mr. Frank Bolaños, Advisory Board Chair was responsible for making the annual presentation on Wednesday , August 24th, 2011. The City Council approved unanimously the report (see below) : Following complains and concerns throughout the community, the City of Doral created a Building Task Force on November 10th, 2010 to help pinpoint the issues that needed to be addressed. The following members were named by the Mayor and ratified by the City Council: Ernesto Anton, Alfredo Llop, Frank Bolaños, Hani Jardack, Benito Irastorza, Viola Sanchez and Joy Ruiz. They held the first meeting on January 26th, 2011 where they voted for the executive positions within the task force. The Task Force met in several occasions with members of the business community, many of whom had previously avoided doing so in fear of retaliation, outlining the nature of their dysfunctional relationship. Members of the public were also encouraged to participate. In order to address the relations and try to improve them, the task force devised a plan of legislative action to assure a timely resolution, monthly reports from the City Manager and a departmental self-assessment. In hopes of better understanding the Building Department’s decision making rationale and thus being able to take steps towards greater efficiency, the task force conducted several case studies. Most of the findings indicated a need for improved communication, lenience in administrative penalties, reduction of unnecessary delays, making use of the city’s digital capabilities and electronic record keeping, outsourcing some parts and overall streamlining the process. Some of the methods directed at increasing efficiency also included implementing private inspectors, honoring previous comments, satisfaction surveys, and encouraging speedy responses. Overall, the Task Forces seeks to find balance in costs and services to help portray a business friendly image for the City of Doral. Well aware of the challenges, the task force continues to work diligently in reducing delays and further helping Doral become a world class city.

l Sr. Frank Bolaños, Presidente de la Junta Asesora fue responsable de hacer la presentación anual el miércoles, 24 de Agosto de 2011. El Concejo Municipal aprobó por unanimidad el informe, que le presentamos someramente: A raíz de quejas y preocupaciones de toda la comunidad, la ciudad de Doral creó el 10 de Noviembre de 2010, un grupo de trabajo denominado “Doral Building Task Force” para ayudar a identificar los temas que debían abordarse y solucionarse. Los siguientes miembros fueron nombrados por el alcalde y ratificados luego por el Consejo de la Ciudad: Anton Ernesto, Alfredo Llop, Frank Bolaños, Jardack Hani, Irastorza Benito, Sánchez Ruiz Viola y Joy. Se celebró la primera reunión el 26 de enero 2011 donde se votó a favor de los puestos ejecutivos en el grupo de trabajo. El grupo de trabajo se reunió en varias ocasiones con miembros de la comunidad de negocios, muchos de los cuales habían evitado hacerlo por temor a represalias, explicando la naturaleza de su relación disfuncional. Los residentes y público en general también fueron alentados a participar. A fin de abordar las relaciones y tratar de mejorarlas, el grupo de trabajo elaboró un plan de acción legislativa para asegurar soluciones , exigiendo el envío de informes mensuales de la gerente de la ciudad y de las acciones efectivas de un departamento de autoevaluación. Con la esperanza de una mejor comprensión de las decisiones del departamento de construcción de la ciudad, y en pos de una mayor eficiencia, Doral Building Task Force, ha llevado a cabo una serie de estudios sobre casos particulares. La mayoría de los resultados revelan la necesidad de mejorar la comunicación, la indulgencia en las sanciones administrativas, la reducción de las demoras innecesarias, hacer uso de las capacidades digitales de la ciudad y el mantenimiento de registros electrónicos, contratación externa de algunas partes y sobre todo la búsqueda de una agilización del proceso. Algunos de los métodos dirigidos a aumentar la eficiencia también incluyen la aplicación de inspectores privados, respetar evaluaciones y comentarios realizadas por inspectores previos, encuestas de satisfacción, y el fomento de respuestas rápidas. En general, Doral Building Task Force busca encontrar el equilibrio en los costos y servicios para ayudar a proyectar una imagen favorable a las empresas de la ciudad de Doral. Muy consciente de los retos, el grupo de trabajo continúa trabajando diligentemente para reducir las demoras y además ayudar a Doral convertirse en una ciudad de clase mundial.

Doral Public School Principals met with members of the Parent Academy in a Doral Rotary Club initiative By Dominique Barba

wo prominent members of the Rotary Club Doral, Felipe Madrigal, Founding President and Gerardo Reyes (JIS PTA) organized this important meeting in the meeting rooms of the Doral Park Country Club on September 2. The following principals attended the meeting: Maria Caceres (DMS), Mayra Falcón (EBT K-8 Center), Ms. Gwendolyn Hines (JIS K-8 Center) and Dr. Jacques Bentolila (RRDSH). Also in attendance, Dr. Jenny Miranda Gonzalez (Parent Academy Director), Mrs. Arlene Martinez (MDCPS), City of Doral Vice Mayor Mike Di Pietro, and other board members of the Doral Rotary Club. Doral Family Journal was the only news organization to be present and was recognized for their work regarding the Doral system of education. The initial presentation was made by Mr. Felipe Madrigal, who said that the goal of the meeting was to achieve a final agreement between parents of Doral and institutions such as the Parent Academy. The only chance of success is through effective school principals who allow for lectures, seminars and/or any other activity offered by the Parent Academy or takes it upon themselves to help bridge the gap. It was stated that such systems have existed in Doral and successful meetings have been held. Mr. Madrigal mentioned that the unity of the community is the key to the success and that the winds of uncertainty that loomed the city a few months ago, when misinformation led some to assume that the school could even be closed, have given way to new proposals and new protagonists, in turn assuring the wellbeing of our children and with that, greater peace of mind. Mr. Reyes presented the results of his project ‘Parents Night / Grass Root in JIS K-8 Center “ and de-

Directores de las Escuelas Públicas del Doral se reunieron con miembros de Parent Academy … una iniciativa de Doral Rotary Club. Por Dominique Barba

Dada la importancia de este programa, el Superintendente Carvalho lo ha incluido en su presupuesto y ha solicitado fondos estatales y federales para financiarlo. A su vez Iraida Méndez Cartaya , Asistente de Superintendente para el área de presupuesto ha dirigido una serie de presentaciones en diversas escuelas explicando la realidad de la situación y proponiendo se escriban cartas a los legisladores solicitando un apoyo real a la educación publica. La Dra. Miranda González trabaja conjuntamente con la Dra. Ángela Lozano (Parental Involvement) y aprovechó la reunión para entregar a los directores la documentación correspondiente para que soliciten charlas (en los idiomas que elijan) y cualquier otro tipo de ayuda. Se le recomendó entregar las encuestas en sus escuelas y trabajar en equipo para lograr un mejor resultado. Por otro lado, la directora, Mayra Falcon recomendó que los seminarios y charlas no sean exclusivos de una escuela si no abiertos a la comunidad para ser mejor aprovechados, iniciativa que fue compartida por el resto de directores presentes, quienes a su vez se comprometieron a seguir divulgando, motivando e impulsando, todos los programas y proyectos de Parent Academy. Doral Family Journal también hizo el compromiso, por lo que se proyectan muy buenas cosas para el Doral…sin duda.

Finalmente la Dra. Miranda González tuvo a bien explicar lo siguiente: “la institución Parent Academy, creada hace 6 años, es una organización sin fines de lucro que se responsabiliza en proveer directamente un mejor servicio educativo a las familias, sin significar costo alguno para las escuelas”. Si bien es una entidad de Miami Dade County Public Schools, no es financiada por esta, si no por fondos privados. Esta organización si bien fue creada por el anterior Superintendente, Dr. Crew, fue implementada por el Dr. Alberto Carvalho. Para este fin, el Dr. Carvalho solicitó el apoyo de Knight Fundation y consiguió una donación de 1 millón 800 mil dólares destinados principalmente a cursos y eventos familiares gratuitos. La selección de cursos fue lograda a través de diversas encuestas enviadas a distintas escuelas y un estudio determinó como distribuirlos. Parent Academy cuenta con la participación del 86% de las escuelas publicas y 91% de las chárter. La meta que tienen es llegar al 100%, por lo que no escatiman esfuerzos para alcanzarla. El problema actual que enfrentan es que la donación de Knight Fundation llega a su fin en Octubre de 2011 , fecha en al cual se cubre el plazo de 3 años. Hasta el momento se lograron realizar al menos una charla por escuela y por mes; y un evento familiar por mes. Esto significa mas de 400 charlas /seminarios

Asistieron a la reunión los directores: la Sra. María Cáceres del Doral Middle School, Sra. Mayra Falcón de Eugenia B. ThomasK-8 Center, la Sra. Gwendolyn Hines de John I.Smith K-8 Center y Jacques Bentolila de Ronald Reagan Doral/Senior High School. Así mismo, la Dra. Jenny Miranda González (Directora de Parent Academy), Sra. Arlene Martínez (MDCPS), el Vice Alcalde de Doral, Mike Di Pietro, así como otros miembros del directorio del Doral Rotary Club. Doral Family Journal fue el único medio informativo en estar presente y fue reconocido por su labor informativa al servicio de la educación en el Doral. La presentación inicial la realizó el Sr. Felipe Madrigal quien indicó que le motivo de la reunión era lograr un acercamiento definitivo entre los padres de familia del Doral y las instituciones como Parent Academy. Para este fin la única posibilidad de éxito es a través de los eficientes directores quienes desde sus escuelas pueden permitir charlas, seminarios o cualquier actividad ofrecida por el Parent Academy o encargarse de su difusión. Se especificó que éste sistema funciona hace algún tiempo en Doral y exitosas charlas han sido presentadas en las escuelas… Madrigal puntualizó que la unión de la comunidad es la llave del éxito y que los vientos de incertidumbre que asomaron la ciudad hace unos meses, cuando la desinformación hacia suponer que incluso una escuela iba a ser cerrada, han dado paso a nuevas propuestas y nuevos protagonistas, augurando bienestar para nuestros hijos y con eso mayor tranquilidad. El Sr. Gerardo Reyes presentó los resultados de su proyecto “Noche de Padres/ Grass Root en JIS K-8 Center” y entregó a la Dra. Miranda Gonzales mas de 500 encuestas de Parent Academy diligentemente completadas por los padres de JIS, lo que significa una participación mayor al 50%. El Sr. Reyes agradeció a Doral Family Journal por haber publicado la encuesta, lo que permitió una difusión mayor y así conseguir el éxito alcanzado. La exposición del Sr. Reyes estuvo enfocada también en la necesidad de una comunidad unida que lucha contra graves problemas, que tienen como herramientas a instituciones como PTA/ PTSA, a padres preocupados e involucrados, y a maestros y administradores comprometidos con la excelencia en al educación.

Shelton Academy At the Forefront…

t’s a new school, and that means learning is done in a whole new way! Welcome to Shelton Academy! It’s taken a lot of work and planning, but it was all worth it. The environment grabs you immediately. We have opportunities here that we don’t have anywhere else. With a small number of students in each of our classes, teachers focus attention individually on us. We don’t get lost in the crowd. Some of us come from schools that had 43 students in one room! Our 5th grade class has only 7 kids! It’s awesome! For the first time in our lives, we feel like we can express ourselves more openly, and we do! The classrooms are all about US – our ideas, our work, our posters, and our projects. And we are brainstorming for all kinds of field trips and clubs we want to be a part of here at Shelton. Our computer lab has brand new Macs, and one of our favorite places is the science lab, which is super high tech. In middle school, we’ll all get I-pads!!! Learning is fun, not only because of all the different activities we do during the day, but also because share a big living room with kids from other grades. It’s here that we work on group and art projects all the time. We’re not stuck inside the same four walls every day. Our gymnasium seems as huge as a football field. Soon, we’ll have karate, film, music, dance, and even yoga classes in the afternoons! We can’t wait until the pool and tennis courts are built. On the first week of school, our teacher, Ms. Stefan, took our pictures and asked us to write about what we wanted to accomplish this year. We named our class “The 5th Grade Miners.” We chose that name because each of us is mining for gems of knowledge and achievement. Now our pictures and goals are up in our classroom to remind us of all the hopes we have for what we are sure will be an unforgettable year!!! ispanics had come to advancement and to perform valuable contributions to society with achievements in science, arts, entertainment, politics, sports, and some other fields. Thus, from September 15th and until October 15th we will be celebrating the Month of Hispanic Heritage; a celebration and recognition to a rich and abundant political, economical, social and cultural influence of the Hispanic community all around the territory of the Nation. Congress decreed, in September 17th 1968, a week of festivities to incorporate the importance and broad diversity of the Hispanic culture to the national agenda. Twenty years later, President Ronald Reagan, decided to extend the festivities from a week to a month, pointing the span begin-

ning September 15th, and ending October 15th of each year. This extension pretended to make the end of these said festivities to coincide with the national celebrations in Costa Rica, Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, and Chile. That’s why the known Month of Hispanic Heritage is of great importance for Hispanics sited in United States, whom all around perform a variety of events and activities ranging from cultural to sports, and principally gastronomic events. Even thou, there are some to believe that this celebration is not enough, and that Latin people deserve a more real opportunity to reach the American dream, because we’ve been here for generations or they just arrived. There is no doubt that many Hispanic had given

In record numbers Hispanics have enlisted in the military although many have held their traditions and mother tongue they have learned the language of their new land and encourage their off spring to be proud of being an hyphened American. With a changing world of tolerance and understanding we are no longer a melting pot of nations but rather a salad bowel of vibrant colors co existing with each other in harmony much like we are in Doral. The recent pronunciations should take this into perspective, America the land of opportunity where you may soar as high or as low as you set your mind. God Bless America!”.

People like Sonia Sotomayor, first Hispanic Judge for the Supreme Court of USA; Hilda Solis, Secretary of the Department of Labor; Ken Salazar, Secretary of Interior Affairs; Senator Marco Rubio; Astronaut Jose Hernandez, and artists like Gloria Estefan, Penelope Cruz, America Ferrara, Jessica Alba, Christina Aguilera, Selena Gomez, Antonio Banderas, Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Eva Longoria, Sofia Vergara, Bruno Mars, Ricky Martin, and Pitbull, among others. According to recently published numbers by the Office of Census, the Hispanic population in United States had an impressive growth during the last decade: 16,3% of the total (50,5 millions) consolidating the position for the first big minority of the country. For it, Hispanic organizations and those of defense advocating for a migratory adjustment had remarked that the Census numbers confirm the weight of the Hispanic vote for the next presidential campaign in 2012.

Many came to the United States from countries in Central, South America and the Caribbean looking for a new future for their families or running away from dictatorships and persecution. Hispanics have always looked at the United States as the place where to find their economic dreams, better education, a great place to raise a family and liberties. In general, Hispanics settled in border states closer to their motherland and where the Spanish language was more predominant. All things considered, the contribution of Hispanics to this nation has been positive; but, it also brought some problems with the immigration which are still pending a resolution. Today, Hispanics have become an important block of voters and we have seen how the political parties courtship the Hispanic votes when elections comes around. Hispanics play an important role in the political future of this nation… Hispanics are celebrating another Hispanic Heritage Month and hoping that in the next decades we can take a more active role in the future of this nation by becoming US Citizens, honoring the founding fathers and their commitment protecting this nation”.

Es por ese motivo que el denominado Mes de la Herencia Hispana tiene una gran importancia para los hispanos radicados en este país, quienes a lo largo de todo el territorio americano llevan a cabo múltiples eventos culturales, deportivos y sobretodo gastronómicos para disfrutar de las celebraciones y ser honrados por ser latinos. Aunque hay quienés consideran que esta celebración no es suficiente y que los latinos merecen una oportunidad real de lograr un sueño americano por estar aquí por generaciones o por que acaban de llegar. No hay duda que hay hispanos que han fortalecido y que han contribuido al espíritu de lo que es ahora Estados Unidos. Hay trabajadores, maestros, médicos, abogados, jueces y empresarios exitosos. Además, de la gran representación de líderes políticos, que hoy en día, nos representan a nivel estatal y nacional. Sin olvidar los soldados

Muchos han mantenido sus tradiciones y su lengua materna, pero han aprendido el idioma de su nuevo país y están orgullosos de ser un americanos. Con un mundo cambiante, la tolerancia y la comprensión que ya no son un crisol de naciones, sino más bien un tazón de ensalada de colores vivos que coexisten unos con otros en armonía al igual que estamos en Doral. Las ultimas pronunciaciones deberían tener esto en perspectiva, América la tierra de oportunidades donde se puede volar tan alto o tan bajo como te propongas. Dios bendiga a América! “.

A fin de cuentas, la contribución de los hispanos a este país ha sido positiva; pero, también trajo algunos problemas con la inmigración, los cuales estan pendiente por una resolución. En la actualidad, los hispanos se han convertido en un importante bloque de votantes y se ha visto un gran cortejo de los partidos políticos por el voto hispano cuando se aproximan las elecciones. Los hispanos juegan un papel importante en el futuro político de esta nación... Los hispanos celebran otro Mes de la Hispanidad con la esperanza de que en las próximas décadas puedan tomar un papel más activo en el futuro de este país al convertirse en ciudadanos de los EE.UU., honrando a los padres fundadores y a su compromiso de proteger a esta nación.

os hispanos han logrado avanzar y realizar valiosas contribuciones a la sociedad con logros en la ciencia, arte, entretenimiento, política, deportes y otros campos, es por ello que a partir del 15 de septiembre hasta el 15 de octubre se estará celebrando el Mes de la Herencia Hispana… una celebración y reconocimiento a la rica y abundante influencia política, económica, social y cultural del pueblo hispano en todo el territorio de los Estados Unidos. El Congreso decretó el 17 de septiembre de 1968 una semana de festejos para poner en la agenda del país la importancia y la rica diversidad de la cultura hispana, pero veinte años más tarde, el presidente Ronald Reagan decidió extender los festejos a un mes, del 15 de septiembre al 15 de octubre. La extensión de tiempo se produjo con el fin de que los festejos coincidieran con las fiestas patrias de Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala,

Personajes como Sonia Sotomayor, que es la primera juez hispana en la Corte Suprema de EU; Hilda Solís que es la Secretaria de Trabajo de EU, Ken Salazar, Secretarios del Interior, el Senador Marco Rubio, el astronauta José Hernández, y artistas como Gloria Estefan, Penélope Cruz, América Ferrara, Jessica Alba, Christina Aguilera, Selena Gómez, Antonio Banderas, Cameron Díaz, Jennifer López, Eva Longoria, Sofía Vergara, Bruno Mars, Ricky Martin y Pitbull, entre otros, son muestra de ello. Según las cifras divulgadas recientemente por la Oficina del Censo, la población hispana de Estados Unidos tuvo un impresionante crecimiento en la última década, a 50,5 millones, es decir 16,3% del total, consolidándose como la primera minoría del país, por lo que organizaciones hispanas y de defensa de una reforma migratoria destacaron que los hallazgos del censo confirman el peso que tendrán los hispanos en las presidenciales de 2012.

Así lo explico la Dra. Ángela Lozano, Directora del Programa de “Parental Involvement” (Participación de los Padres) de MDCPS. El objetivo de esta organización es apoyar a todos estos padres de familia que tienen el firme compromiso de hacer la diferencia y de ser protagonistas directos en la educación y en el éxito de sus hijos. El primer requisito para lograrlo es contar con la información necesaria, para poder opinar y sobre todo actuar. Miami Dade Mayor Carlos Giménez held a town hall meeting on proposed budget at Doral By Dominique Barba

he facilities of Doral Middle School were the stage for Mayor Carlos Gimenez’ recent presentation on the budgetary recommendations for the 2011-12 fiscal year. The basis of his proposal was the following three points. 1- Rolls Back property tax rate while preserving services for seniors and children, public safety and other essential services 2- Shrinks government by eliminating nearly 1,300 positions and reduces s the cost of employee salaries and benefits 3- Continues efforts to make county government smaller, more affordable and more efficient.

Mayor Carlos Giménez began by congratulating the Doral authorities for making our city one of the best in the country in only a few years, then briefly explain each of the points of their proposal, indicating that these changes correspond to his agenda presented during the campaign. When he finished, the round of questions began, most of them linked to tax cuts as a result of the elimination of jobs. Several participants indicated that these measures would diminish the quality of life and community service; some even asserted that cutting taxes was minimal compared to what was lost in services to residents. Mayor Gimenez justified these measures by explaining that the basic services, special programs and safety will not be affected, therefore there is no way diminish the quality of life. Besides, the tax cut will benefit many people, and with significant amounts when it comes to low-income families. A good group of owners of farm animals, mostly horse owners, thanked him for not placing a tax in the holding of these, a point which was ratified at the meeting. Another important recommendation that was well received, was to place inmates with misdemeanors to work in the service of taking care of city parks, also requested was greater efficiency in transport services, upgrading units and working with smaller and better performance. In Doral’s case, it was asked about the whereabouts of the 0.5% tax on transportation that the county did not assign to the city and that Doral, like other cities, is seeking litigation The answer was affirmative and pleased everyone. After the presentation, which was very well received, many participants praised the mayor of Doral directly for the beauty and success of the city. The vast majority claimed to have heard a lot about Doral regarding it boasting the best schools in the county, but never imagined the other aspects that also adorn. The highlight was as usual the traffic in and out of the city, but the response was that they are always looking for resolutions, a proof of this is 74th Street, which connects with Palmetto Turnpike, and somehow no one knew about it, but now pledge to use. The final words of Mr. Bermudez’s pleased all in attendance, “Doral is the best place to live, work, study and play” ... without a doubt!!

Esta presentación es parte de una serie de encuentros del Alcalde con su comunidad, la importancia del Doral en el ámbito local es determinante por lo que fue seleccionada como una de las sedes . El Alcalde del Doral, Sr Juan Carlos Bermúdez fue el encargado de iniciar la presentación con palabras que reflejaban el gran orgullo que siente por su ciudad, también fue muy elocuente al saludar y agradecer a todos los residentes y visitantes por ser activos participantes en las importantes decisiones del condado. El alcalde Carlos Giménez inicio su exposición felicitando a las autoridades del Doral por haber logrado en pocos años que la ciudad sea una de las mejores del país, luego explico brevemente cada uno d e los puntos de su propuesta , indicando que estos cambios correspondían a su plan de trabajo presentado durante la campaña. Terminado esto, se iniciaron las rondas de preguntas, la mayoría de ellas vinculadas a la reducción de impuestos como consecuencia de la eliminación de puestos de trabajo. Varios de los asistentes indicaron que estas medidas iban a mermar la calidad de vida y servicios a la comunidad, otros incluso aseveraban que la reducción de impuestos era mínima en comparación a lo que se perdía por buenos servicios a los residentes. El Alcalde Giménez justificó estas medidas explicando que los servicios básicos , los programas especiales y la seguridad no serán afectados, por tanto no hay forma que la calidad de vida disminuya . Además que la disminución de impuestos va a beneficiar a muchas per-

sonas, y que los montos si son significativos cuando se trata de familias con bajos ingresos. Un buen grupo de propietarios de animales de granja, mayormente propietarios de caballos , agradeció que no se pusiera una tasa impositiva a la tenencia de estos, punto que fue ratificado en la reunión. Otra recomendación importante que fue bien recibida, fue el de ubicar a reclusos con faltas menores a trabajar al servicio de la ciudad en cuidado de parques, igualmente se pidió una mayor eficiencia en los servicios de transporte, modernizando unidades y trabajando con mas pequeñas y de mejor rendimiento. Por Doral se pregunto acerca del 0.5% de la tasa impositiva de transporte que el condado no le esta asignando a la ciudad, y que al igual que otras ciudades, esta reclamando luego de un litigio. La respuesta fue afirmativa y satisfizo a todos. Al finalizar la presentación , que fue muy bien recibida , muchos de los asistentes felicitaron directamente al alcalde del Doral por la belleza y éxito de la ciudad. La gran mayoría afirmo haber escuchado bastante sobre Doral en lo referente a que ostenta las mejores escuelas del condado, pero no se imaginaban los otros aspectos que también la engalanan. El punto álgido fue como siempre el trafico para entrar y salir de la ciudad, pero la respuesta fue que se están buscando siempre las soluciones , una prueba de ello es la calle 74, que conecta Turnpike con Palmetto, y que paradójicamente ninguno conocía…y prometen utilizar. Por eso las palabras finales del Sr Bermúdez los complacieron gratamente: “Doral es el mejor lugar para vivir, trabajar, estudiar y jugar “ …sin duda!!!!

n una acto convocado por la Organización de Venezolanos Perseguidos Políticos en el Exilio (Veppex) el pasado 5 de septiembre, en el Hotel Intercontinental de Doral, se dieron cita cientos de venezolanos residenciados en el sur de la Florida en su mayoría asilados y perseguidos políticos para asistir a una reunión la cual se trato las violaciones del consulado venezolano en Miami hacia los ciudadanos que han intentado inscribirse en el Registro Electoral Permanente para ejercer su derecho al voto en las venideras elecciones del año 2012 y no le es permitido por las autoridades consulares, alegando que al ser asilados o refugiados han perdido la ciudadanía venezolana, negando de manera arbitraria y sin basamentos jurídicos los derechos políticos a los venezolanos que res-

othing embodies the “American Dream” better than the prospect of owning your own home. For those of us who are first generation Americans, we are likely here today because of our parents desire to provide us with a better life and the ability to control our own future. We are blessed to have the liberties and freedoms that, quite simply, do not exist for so many individuals throughout the world. The notion of working hard in order to be able to own your own home is indeed something that distinguishes us from so many others. But with home ownership comes a great amount of responsibility and sacrifice, particularly during this challenging economy, with so many people unemployed and underemployed. As your State Representative, I constantly hear from individuals who have questions about their mortgages, property taxes, foreclosures, etc. I am reminded of the seniors who live on fixed incomes and can no longer afford their homes, which is why I have filed legislation to prohibit any increases in property taxes and provide much-needed relief for low-income seniors. Additionally, I am working closely with the H.E.R.O. Foundation to provide individuals with real answers and solutions to any and all issues related to home-ownership, including loan modifications, foreclosure preven-

tion, mortgage fraud, short sales or first time home buying. Think of this fact, 1 in every 396 housing units in the State of Florida received a foreclosure filing in July 2011. This is a real and pressing problem that will continue to plague our community for some time to come. In response to what I view as an ongoing crisis, in June of this year, along with Mayor Bermudez, I hosted an informative seminar in Doral. arlin Engineering, Inc. has been honored with the 2011 Project of the Year award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) for its outstanding design work on the NW 25th Street Viaduct. The NW 25th Street Viaduct is a $200 million construction project that expedites the movement of freight from the western side of Miami International Airport to the Palmetto Expressway, Doral warehouse facilities and beyond. Marlin Engineering, which is observing its 20th anniversary, used its innovation to drive the planning, design and oversight of this large-scale signature project. hen you go on a road trip, you need to follow the signs to arrive at the right place. Going online can be very much the same. Look for the “.gov” at the end of the web address - if it isn’t .gov, it isn’t the real Social Security website - www.socialsecurity. gov. Countless consumers nationwide are victimized each year by misleading advertisers who use “Social Security” or “Medicare” to entice the public to use their services. In many cases, these companies offer Social Security services for a fee, even though the same services are available directly from Social Security, free of charge. These services include: • updating a Social Security card to show a bride’s married name; • replacing a Social Security card; and • getting a Social Security number for a child. These for-profit businesses may cleverly design their websites, so when people use Internet search engines, their advertisement pops up. They may even make their advertisement look similar to the real Social Security website. And some of these sites, at first glance, appear to be affiliated with Social Security. But upon closer examination, these are for-profit companies charging individuals for a service that is provided free by Social Security. For instance, a quick Google search on “replacing a Social Security card” brings up paid advertisements for websites that charge a fee just to get an application for a new card. That service is absolutely free from Social Security. The law that deals specifically with misleading Social Security and Medicare advertising prohibits people or non-government organizations, like for-profit businesses, from using words or emblems that mislead others. Their advertising cannot lead people to believe that they represent or are somehow affiliated with or endorsed or approved by Social Security or the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (Medicare). When you go to www.socialsecurity.gov, make sure you look for the “.gov” sign along the way. Don’t be tricked into paying a fee for a service that’s free. Existem vários tipos de Vistos para entrar no Brasil: Visto de Turista, Visto de Cultura, Visto de Negócios, Visto de atletas, Visto de estudante, Visto de trabalho, Visto de Jornalista, Visto de Missionários, Visto Permanente. Vamos falar hoje, mais detalhadamente do visto de Turista. Este visto é emitido para pessoas que querem visitar o Brasil para conhecer e passear ou ainda, para visitar amigos e parentes. É recomendada a vacina de febre amarela para os turistas que pretendam visitar os Estados do Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Distrito Federal, Goiás, Maranhão, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima e Tocantins. he consulate of Brazil in Miami issues Visas for Americans and people of the other nationalities, authorizing the entry into Brazil in accordance to the Statue of Foreigner. For the Americans it works as follows: The consulate of Brazil in Miami issues a visa to enter Brazil for the residents of Florida, Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands. To apply for the Visa you must be with a valid passport at least 6 months prior to its expiration date. The passport also, must have at least 2 blank pages. There are several types of Visas to enter in Brazil? Tourist, Culture, Business, Athletes, Student, Journalist, Missionaries or Permanent Let`s talk today in more details about the Tourist Visa. This Visa is issued to people who want to know the country and visit friends and relatives. Yellow Fever vaccination is recommend if the applicant intends to visit one the following regions in Brazil: Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Federal District, Góias, Maranhão, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima and Tocantins. The tourist Visa is granted on the “shelf life” of 10 years however, tourist Visa holders are not allowed to engage in any paid activity under employment contract with a Brazilian entity. This Visa allows the bearer to stay in Brazil for up to 90 days, renewable by the immigration authority for more 90 days. The total time spent year is 180 days. To request a tourist Visa you need the following documents: 1- Valid passport. 2- A recent photo, white background, 2x2. 3- Filled form which is available on the web site of the Brazilian Consulate in Miami or on the web site. 4- A signed letter explaining the reason for travel and the address where you will stay. 5- Proof of residence in the United States could be for example, power bill. 6- Driver`s License. Other documents will be required to apply for Visa to a minor of age. Such information may be obtained by contacting the Brazilian Consulate in Miami. If the person is applying for the Visa in person he/she must pay a fee of US, U$140.00, if application is made by a third party in possession of the documents, the fee, will be U$ 160.00. It`s simple and easy, it is ready in 15 days if done by the third person and in five days if required by the individual. This is it! In ‘The Double,’ the mysterious murder of a US senator bearing the distinctive trademark of the legendary Soviet assassin “Cassius,” forces Paul Shepherdson (Richard Gere), a retired CIA operative, to team with rookie FBI agent, Ben Geary (Topher Grace), to solve the crime.   Having spent his career chasing Cassius, Shepherdson is convinced his nemesis is long dead, but is pushed to take on the case by his former supervisor, Tom Highland (Martin Sheen). or the non-believers, and for those of us that always believed in a better humanity through the teaching of arts, had been really amazing the results obtained by children and youngsters taking part of the Summer Camp Workshops at One, Two, Three Leonardo Timor Arts Center. Barely five sessions down the road for the workshops of plastic arts, music, and specifics for percussion, the students launched themselves to the stage, backed up by the confidence in whatever they had learned from their teachers, guided by them, whom in return exhibited blind confidence in the skills acquired by their students in such short time. Something nobody was never ready for, was for collecting success with closed ovations and more, the voluntary integration of the audience to the shows, intended at the beginning to be just for demonstration. And sure enough, they were demonstratives. Few presentations were enough to show that not only our children and young people are avid for the satisfactions that good and well structured art can deliver; we, as spectators are also thirsty for changes, radical

changes to develop and expand our society for us, and for our descendants, a 180 degrees eternal twist of events. The teaching systems being used at the Center had brought together — more than gather— students of different ages, stratus, and dissimilar characteristics, and more than one can expect from traditional systems, family union is a priority factor for the completion of the academic formation of our children. Many of the parents and tutors had discovered worlds lying down inside their minds which at last, did find their way out using some of the techniques learned and shared with the kids. One, Two, Three Arts Center Leonardo Timor do not preach theory teaching, although this is important too, better, adapts the necessary theory to develop a technique, and put it immediately to practice. “Generally is the left side of our brains the active one while the right side —the one where all the creativity centers are found— remains passive until is awaked and trained” explain Ana Silvia, one of the school’s directors. “When the right hemisphere of our brains gets activated, the caudal of ideas and creation is unstoppable. The receptivity increases along with the concentration to get tasks to term.” The more truthful example of this all can be found in students of our Summer Camp with “learning difficulties” These children will keep assisting to upcoming classes for a reason. Arts Center Leonardo Timor integrated in the same classrooms “regular” children with, for example, autism. The differentiation is banal and vague. All children in the same classroom developed skills at the same time, up to a point that is very hard, or almost impossible, to tell ones from the others. Here no child is or not is; all of them are spectacular beings needing only sensibility and love to make click on their creative potential. It will be extensive to talk here about the educational labor of the Center. Enough to be, to mention that the

integration of the arts to the community, as well as this to the arts as a medium to develop an integral society can be count among the giant objectives of One, Two, Three. Apart from the life presentation of the music groups, the administration of the School had embrace the task of bringing to the light a collection of Christmas Postcards, all with paints done by our children. It is incredible the freedom of the brushes, colors, and lines. In some cases, it is even hard to believe that such paints were made by children of ages between 5 and 15 years old. For the next period, beginning Monday, September 5th a new optional workshop will be added to those already established of plastic arts, music, and percussion: Photography, a very attractive plastic arts modality, yet so far and until now, wrongfully had as expensive. Along, Leonardo Timor Arts Center will continue their rescue labor of talented musicians, many of those had been reunited within one seal, a traditional Big Band: The Miami Big Band Project. The sound is electrifying, and hypnotizes the more zealous of the listeners, thus surprising the conjunction of young musicians not quiet twenty years old, with others surpassing that mark almost three times. Silvia Hernandez sacar a la luz una colección de postales navideñas, todas con temas pintados por los niños. Cabe señalar que asombra la libertad con que se expresan las pinceladas, los colores, las líneas y, en muchos casos, será difícil creer que obras tales fueran realizadas por niños de entre cinco y quince años. Para el próximo período, que comenzará el Lunes 5 de Septiembre, se agregará un taller opcional más a los ya establecidos de artes plásticas, música y percusión: Fotografía, modalidad de las artes plásticas que a muchos atrae, y de la que se tiene el concepto, ahora erróneo, de ser muy costosa. A la par, el Centro Leonardo Timor continúa su labor de rescate de músicos talentosos, a quienes ha reunido en el seno de una Big Band tradicional: Miami Big Band Project. El sonido de la banda es electrificante e hipnotiza al más cauto de los escuchas, y a la vez sorprende la conjunción de músicos tan jóvenes que no llegan a los veinte años, con otros que los sobrepasan hasta más de tres veces. y más, la integración del público a los espectáculos que, más que todo, estuvieron en principio dirigidos a ser demostrativos. Y ciertamente lo fueron. Pocas presentaciones bastaron para demostrar que no son solamente nuestros jóvenes y niños quienes están ávidos de las satisfacciones que nos regala el arte bien estructurado; nosotros, los espectadores, también demostramos que estamos ávidos de arte, que estamos sedientos de cambio, un cambio que sea radical en nuestra sociedad, que la mejore y la expanda para nosotros, y para nuestros descendien-

tes, un vuelco de ciento ochenta grados que sea imperecedero. El sistema de enseñanza usado en el Centro ha unido —más que reunido— a alumnos de edades, estratos, y características muy variadas y, más allá de lo que se pudiera esperar de algún otro centro con sistemas tradicionales, la unión de la familia ha sido factor principal en el completamiento de la formación académica. Muchos de los padres o tutores de nuestros jóvenes asistentes, han descubierto mundos que se agolpaban en sus cerebros y que al fin, encontraron una vía de escape en el uso de algunas técnicas aprendidas y compartidas con los pequeños. “Un, Dos, Tres, Centro para las Artes Leonardo Timor,” no predica la enseñanza teórica, aunque esta es también importante, mejor, adapta los conceptos teóricos necesarios para desarrollar una técnica y los pone en práctica de inmediato. “Generalmente es el lado izquierdo de nuestro cerebro el que está activo, mientras que el derecho, donde se encuentran los centros de creatividad, se mantiene pasivo hasta que se le despierta y se le entrena”, explica Ana Silvia Hernandez, una de las directoras del Centro. “Cuando el hemisferio derecho de nuestro cerebro se activa, el caudal de ideas y creación es casi imparable. La receptibilidad aumenta junto con la concentración en las tareas propuestas.” El ejemplo más fehaciente de todo lo tenemos en los alumnos que, con dificultades en el aprendizaje, asistieron y continuarán asistiendo a los talleres que se impartirán. El Centro Leonardo Timor integró en las mismas aulas a niños “regulares” con por ejemplo, niños autistas. La diferenciación es banal y vaga. Todos desarrollaron habilidades al unísono, al punto que, resulta bastante difícil, si no imposible, diferenciarlos. Aquí ningún niño o joven es o no es; todos son seres espectaculares que sólo necesitan que la sensibilidad y el amor hagan click en su potencial creativo. Sería muy extenso hablar aquí de la labor educativa del Centro. Basta mencionar que la integración del arte a la comunidad, tanto como esta al arte como medio de mejoramiento social, se cuentan entre los gigantes objetivos del “Un, Dos, Tres”. Aparte de las presentaciones en vivo de los grupos de música, la administración del local se ha dado a la tarea de

anto para los incrédulos, como para aquellos de nosotros que siempre hemos tenido fé en el mejoramiento humano por medio de la enseñanza de las artes, han resultado verdaderamente impactantes los resultados obtenidos por los niños y jóvenes que formaron parte de los talleres de verano del Centro para las Artes Leonardo Timor. Con tan sólo escasas cinco sesiones de talleres, que abarcaron artes plásticas, música y talleres específicos de percusión, los alumnos se lanzaron al campo de las presentaciones con entera confianza en lo aprendido de sus profesores que, liderando a sus grupos, a su vez, confiaron ciegamente en las habilidades adquiridas por los muchachos. The musical inheritor of the highest exponent of Mambo

s part of the beginning for the celebrations of the Hispanic Heritage month, our editorial decided to dedicate this space to a young musician that nowadays, keeps walking over the steps of his father and his roots. We are talking about the New Yorker, Tito Puente Jr., son of the legendary musician from Puerto Rico, Tito Puente, “The King of the Timbales.” Doral Family Journal went for an interview with the artist over lunch at the Italian Restaurant “Chef Sammy’s,” in the Doral area, for our section “In Spotlight,” where I did realize how nice, jovial and funny this musician is. Not because of being the inheritor of such legend of the music he shows unreachable, is great human being who enjoys talking of his father. In his latest production, “Got Mambo,” the interpreter of the new rhythmic generation of mambo, guaguanco, and cha-cha-cha, included the track “Junior’s Mambo,” in a way to sustain the musical essence of his father, Tito Puente. For the recording, he counted with the collaboration of other renown musicians like: Bobby Cruz, Hansel & Raul, Kevin Ceballo, and Ricky Melendez. He also render a tribute to his father with another production, launched in digital format, using the fifties style, and published in MyMusicSite.com. “I do always think of the spirit of Tito Puente. My father was a worldwide legend, but when I think of him, I see him as a regular father, a father of the streets, very talented,…Daddy is Daddy.” And that is the way he wants to pass this image to his own kids, Miranda Cristina and Tito Puente Jr, Jr. “My dad is a great influence for my music and my personality”, said Puente Jr. When asked if over the stage he thinks of his father, the answer was prompt. “I have the spirit of Tito Puente in my heart. When I’m playing with my orchestra, or following the music of The King of Timbales, his lyrics and compositions, or when I’m about to climb up to a stage, the spirit of my father is always there with me and for the rest of the people…” If you ever have the power to keep alive the essence of salsa and mambo, what will you do to achieve such thing, or to recover it? What would you teach younger generations?

“It is for me a great honor to play the music of The King of the Timbales: mambo music, cha-cha-cha, and salsa. What I want is for all youngsters today to know the music of Tito Puente and Celia Cruz; they are the Maestros of our music. It is for me very important for these young generations to know this music.” When you, for example, think of Celia Cruz, what’s on your mind? “Celia had and incredible voice, unique. The “Guarachera of Salsa,” was my Godmother, and my sisters’ too. Celia was the foundation of today’s salsa.” The artist also told us that he is a big follower of the music from the 70’s, music of singers like Hector Lavoe, Roberto Roena, and Fania All Stars. “That’s the real music of Puerto Rico, the Enchanted Island, and is also a big influence in my music.” Although, he likes Larry Harlow’s salsa as well as Marc Anthony’s —with whom, as Puente Jr. confirmed us, would like to work. His new record will be ready for next year, and for now the artist is traveling for presentations with other different talents such as Hansel & Raul. “I do have different ideas for the next record, with arrangements of my dad and some originals. I am working with Mr. Marlon Rosado, who is the composer of a huge part of my music, and because he has, in his music, the flavor I love.” Even when he assured us the next record will be different… “It will be the original music of Tito Puente Jr.”

Nos referimos al neoyorquino Tito Puente Jr., hijo del legendario músico puertorriqueño Tito Puente, el Rey de los Timbales. Doral Family Journal decidió almorzar con el artista en el Restaurant italiano “Chef Sammy’s” de Doral, para nuestra sección In Spolight, donde me di cuenta de lo muy agradable, jovial y jocoso que es y que, por ser hijo de una leyenda de la salsa no es para nada “inalcanzable” y un gran ser humano que disfruta hablar de su padre. En su última producción discográfica “Got Mambo”, el intérprete de la nueva generación rítmica de mambo, guaguancó y chachachá, incluyó el tema “Junior’s Mambo,” para mantener la esencia musical de Tito Puente, y con la participación de Bobby Cruz, Hansel & Raul, Kevin Ceballo y Ricky Melendez. También le rindió un homenaje a su padre en un disco de música al estilo de los años cincuenta, y que lanzó de manera digital, en MyMusicSite.com. “Yo pienso en el espíritu de Tito Puente siempre. Mi papá es una leyenda en el mundo entero, pero cuando pienso en él, pienso como en un papá normal, un papá de la calle, un papá bien talentoso, … papi es papi.” Y así lo quiere transmitir a sus dos hijos, Miranda Cristina y Tito Puente Jr, Jr. “Mi papá es una gran influencia para mi música y mi personalidad.” Dijo Puente Jr. Al preguntarle si al estar sobre un escenario, piensa en su padre, enseguida nos respondió: “Yo tengo el espíritu de Tito Puente en mi corazón. Cuando estoy tocando con mi orquesta, o siguiendo la música del Rey del timbal, sus letras, sus composiciones, o cuando estoy apunto de entrar al escenario, el espíritu de mi papá está siempre allí conmigo y para la gente…” Si en tus manos estuviera el poder para mantener la esencia de la salsa o el mambo, ¿Qué harías para poder lograr o recuperar esto? ¿Qué le enseñarías a la juventud? “Para mi es un honor tocar la música del rey del

timbal, música mambo, cha-cha-chá, salsa. Lo que yo quiero es que todos los jóvenes de hoy conozcan la música de Tito Puente y Celia Cruz, esos son los Maestros de nuestra música. Es muy importante para mí que los jóvenes conozcan esa música”. Cuando piensas por ejemplo en Celia Cruz, ¿Qué te viene a la mente? “Celia tenía una voz increíble, única. La guarachera de la salsa era mi madrina, y de mis hermanas. Era una persona increíble. Celia fue la fundación de la salsa de hoy.” El artista también nos comentó que es un gran seguidor de la música de los años 70, música de cantantes como Héctor Lavoe, Roberto Roena, y Fania All Stars. “Esa es la verdadera música de la Isla del Encanto, Puerto Rico y también es una gran influencia para mi música.” Aunque también le gusta la salsa de Larry Harlow y Marc Anthony, con quién nos afirmó le gustaría la idea de trabajar. El nuevo disco estará saliendo para el próximo año, por ahora el artista está viajando para varias presentaciones con diferentes artistas como Hansel y Raul. “Tengo diferentes ideas para mi próximo disco, con unos arreglos de mi papá y tengo unos originales. Estoy trabajando con el Sr. Marlon Rosado, que es un grandísimo compositor de mi música, por que el tiene el sabor de la música que me gusta.” Aunque nos aseguró que va a ser un disco diferente... “Será la música original de Tito Puente Jr.”

athers play a unique and irreplaceable role in a child’s life. This is the reason why every day more health professionals emphasize the importance of their parental role. It is essential to understand the different roles a father and a mother have. Not only are they unique but they are also complementary, therefore, each role contributes to develop different strengths in a child’s life. It is very important that the mother creates spaces where the father can be part of the child’s rearing and thus facilitate a greater proximity in his child’s daily life. Accordingly, the father’s role has many influences in the child’s life, some of the most important are: • Identity Development: Boys develops their masculine identity through the imitation of his father; girls on the other hand, see the father as a model of husband. • Self-esteem Development: the father’s presence, communication and dedication to the child, plays a crucial role in self-esteem. • Emotional Development: Father-child relationship will contribute to their emotional security; child will project himself or herself as a competent, strong and secure person. • Academic development: Children who have a father figure have a better chance of academic success than those with absent fathers. Furthermore, researchers suggest that a child might distinguish its father’s voice from a few weeks of age; in fact, other researches affirm that even from the womb the baby can identify who its father is. Whatever the case is, we can infer that if the baby is born with this ability to distinguish between the father and mother most probably is because the father’s connection will be also important for its growth and development. Once you understanding the relevance of the father’s involvement, there are many ways you can get involved in your child’s life. Whether you are expecting a baby, have a new baby or your child is growing, you can be the father you want to be! Here are some tips that may help you to make the difference in your children’s life: • Read with your child, play with him or her and walk with your child while exercising • Devote time with your child without phones, IPods, video games or TV • Talk with your baby; hearing your voice is important for brain development. • Child develop at their own pace give their temperaments and abilities; be patient with progress • Show your pride in being the father of either a boy or a girl • Join a fatherhood support group Finally, Father’s consistent involvement in a child’s life helps him or her gain self-respect, do better in school and strengthen family and community. This is why, on a local or national level, there are fatherhood groups where fathers get together to discuss their child’s development, make new friends and get support! l papá juega un papel único e irremplazable en la vida del niño, es por esto que cada día mas los profesionales de la salud enfatizan en la relevancia que el rol paterno aporta a la vida del niño. Es fundamental comprender que los roles paterno y materno no son solo diferentes, sino también complementarios y aportan diferentes fortalezas al desarrollo del niño. Es pues, de suma importancia que la madre permita espacios donde el papa pueda ejercer funciones en la crianza del niño y de esta manera facilite una mayor proximidad en la vida diaria de su hijo. Dentro de las principales influencias que el rol paterno tiene en la vida del niño están: • Desarrollo de la Identidad: En el caso de los varoncitos desarrollan su identidad masculina a través de la imitación de su padre; las niñas por su lado ven al padre como modelo de esposo, como ejemplo y trato de comunicación con la pareja. • Desarrollo de la autoestima: la presencia del padre así como su comunicación y de dedicación hacia el niño juega un papel crucial en su autoestima. • Desarrollo emocional: la relación papá -hijo(a) va a contribuir a que el niño se proyecte como una persona competente, fuerte y segura. • Desarrollo académico: Los niños que tienen una figura paterna presentan más posibilidades de éxito escolar que aquellos con padres ausentes. Así mismo, los estudios sugieren que el bebe desde unas pocas semanas de nacimiento es capaz de distinguir la voz del padre de la de la madre, otros estudios más arriesgados sugieren inclusive, que esto sucede desde el vientre materno. Sea cual sea el caso, lo que sí se podemos inferir es que si el bebé nace con esta capacidad de distinción entre el padre y la madre, es ciertamente porque esta conexión va a ser importante para su crecimiento y desarrollo. Comprendiendo la relevancia que la participación del padre tiene en la vida del niño, existen muchas maneras para facilitar que esta interacción se dé. Sea que tu estés esperando un bebé, tengas un bebe recién nacido o tal vez ya tus hijos están más grandecitos, involúcrate en la vida de ellos. Estos son algunos consejos que pueden ser de utilidad: • Lee con tu hijo, juega con él o con ella, camina con tu hijo mientras haces ejercicio. • Comparte tiempo con tu hijo dejando a un lado las distracciones de teléfonos, ipods, juegos de video o televisión. • Habla con tu hijo desde pequeño, escuchar tu voz ayudara al desarrollo del cerebro del bebé. • Los bebés y los niños progresan de diferentes maneras, se paciente con dicho desarrollo. • Muéstrale a tu hijo lo orgulloso que te sientes de ser su padre, sea niño o niña. • Inscríbete en grupos para papas El constante involucramiento del papá en la vida del niño ayudara a que este adquiera respeto por sí mismo, y afianzara su relación con él y al mismo tiempo que fortalecerá la familia y la comunidad. Como tú existen muchos papás que desean ser parte crucial en la vida de sus hijos y que están trabajando para ello, es por esto que a nivel nacional y local existen grupos de papás que se reúnen para discutir temas sobre la crianza de sus hijos, hacen nuevos amigos y reciben apoyo entre sí. or many years, the Scout family has been widely known within the United States, for both boys (Boy Scouts) and girls (Girl Scouts). As a mother of girls and after hearing about the “Delicious Girl Scout Cookies”, I was interested in knowing more about the activities of this organization and why it is so interesting and also how my children could benefit from becoming a member and getting involved in it. That’s how, three years ago, together with my daughters, we got involved in this wonderful organization, which I will now share with you. Established in 1912, Girl Scouts is one of the most world’s preeminent organizations dedicated to helping girls building courage, confidence, and character, which not only contributes to their success in the real world but also helps make it a better place. In partnership with committed adult volunteers, girls develop qualities that will serve them all of their lives, such as: leadership, strong values, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth with everything planned in an accepting, fun and nurturing environment. Organized by age groups, the Girl Scout program starts as early as 5 years old and runs until adulthood. Como madre de niñas y luego de escuchar acerca de las “Deliciosas Galletas de las Girl Scouts” me interese por conocer un poco más sobre las actividades que realiza esta organización, porqué es tan interesante y más aun, cómo beneficiarían a mis hijas de pertenecer en ella. Así fue como, hace ya tres años, en unión a mis hijas, nos involucramos en esta hermosa organización, que ahora comparto con ustedes. e, human beings are always searching for pleasure, in every one of its forms. And once we get it, we are never satisfied. We always want more of that which makes us feel good, euphoric… pleased. This is why we become addicts. You can become addicted to a variety of things: alcohol, tobacco, drugs, and… food. This last one applies to me. Many years ago, I stopped consuming alcohol, tobacco and caffeine. I do not need these substances anymore because they no longer give me pleasure, but food is a different story. I have to acknowledge that I am addicted to food. For me, eating gives me pleasure. In fact, if I cannot eat what pleases me, I would rather not eat at all. It is because of this addiction to food that I am overweight. And it is because I am obese that I am diabetic. On top of this, I have diabetes in my genes. A significant number of my maternal relatives have had to deal with this disease and I am no exception. We can fight and even totally eradicate addictions. For example; through appropriate therapies, a drug addict can manage to live without drugs and thus recuperate his or her normal way of life. This applies to all addictions, except food addictions. Unlike other addictions, you cannot fight a food addiction because we need food to live, including the harmful sugars and carbohydrates that come with it. For us diabetics, it is paradoxical that that which we need to live is actually killing us. If we stop eating we will die of hunger, and if we eat without limitations, we will die as a consequence of the complications of diabetes. This is the dilemma! The solution resides in eating what we should, not what we want. This is why we diabetics must fight our addiction to food by using our consciences as follows: • We must be conscious about the fact that we are sick and avoid eating excessive amounts of sugar and carbohydrates. • We must be conscious about the implications that the arbitrary consumption of food, and consequently obesity, can have on our health. • We must be conscious about the need to change our harmful eating habits; otherwise our life expectancy will be significantly diminished. Diabetics, let’s fight our addiction to food and keep our diabetes under control. Let’s live better, eating better. osotros los humanos siempre estamos a la búsqueda del Placer, en todas sus formas. Y una vez que lo conseguimos nunca nos saciamos. Siempre queremos más de aquello que nos hace sentir bien, eufóricos… complacidos. Es por ello que nos volvemos adictos. Las adicciones pueden ser variadas: al alcohol, el tabaco, las drogas y… a la comida. Esta última es mi caso. Desde hace muchos años dejé de consumir alcohol, tabaco y cafeína. Todas estas substancias ya no me son necesarias porque ya no me causan placer, pero con la comida la cosa es muy distinta. Debo reconocer que soy adicto a la comida. Para mí, comer es motivo de placer. De hecho, si no como algo que me guste, prefiero no hacerlo. Es precisamente por esta adicción a la comida que tengo sobrepeso. Y es por mi condición de obeso que soy diabético. Además, tengo herencia diabética. Un considerable número de miembros de mi familia materna han tenido que lidiar con esta enfermedad y yo no soy la excepción. Las adicciones pueden combatirse y hasta erradicarse por completo. Por ejemplo, mediante el uso de terapias adecuadas, se puede lograr que un individuo adicto a drogas logre prescindir de su uso, recobrando así su vida normal. Así sucede con todas las adicciones, excepto con la adicción a la comida. A diferencia de las otras adicciones, ésta no se puede eliminar porque necesitamos de la comida para poder vivir, incluyendo los azúcares y/o carbohidratos mismos, que son los que nos perjudican. Para los diabéticos, resulta paradójico que lo que necesitamos para vivir nos esté matando. No podemos dejar de comer porque moriremos de inanición, y si comemos irrestrictamente moriremos a consecuencia de las complicaciones generadas por la diabetes. ¡He ahí el dilema! La solución radica en comer lo que podemos y no lo que queremos. Por ello, los diabéticos tenemos que combatir nuestra adicción a la comida con el uso de nuestras conciencias, a saber: • Debemos estar conscientes de nuestra condición de enfermos y evitar el consumo excesivo de azúcares y de carbohidratos. • Debemos crear conciencia de las implicaciones que tiene en nuestra salud el consumo indiscriminado de alimentos y la consecuente obesidad. • Debemos tomar conciencia de que si no cambiamos nuestros dañinos hábitos alimenticios nuestra expectativa de vida estará reducida. Diabéticos, combatamos nuestra adicción a la comida y pongamos a la diabetes bajo control. Vivamos mejor, comiendo mejor. ow, that school started and infants are returning to their respective Day Care Centers their association with other sick children may bring about a series of common respiratory problems for children and, one of them is Bronchiolitis. This condition mainly occurs during the winter and early spring, and it affectes the entire respiratory tract, including the bronchioles for which is named after. Bronchiolitis usually begins as a cold often with symptoms of fever, runny nose and nasal stuffiness as well as poor appetite or we may see some difficulty with sucking in some infants. After 2 to 4 days, the virus spreads to the bronchioles, causing irritation and narrowing of the air passages. This results in a whistling sound (wheeze) when breathing out. Bronchiolitis usually goes away by itself. Bronchiliolitis is usually mild and the child gets better after 3 to 4 days. However, sometimes the infection is more serious and admission to the hospital is required. There maybe several different viruses that causes colds and flu-like illnesses but, the RSV is the most frequent one being followed by the parainfluenza viruses. Young children catch these viruses during close contact with older children, as well as family members and others who are infected, but often have mild illnesses. The virus is spread directly to the mucus membranes whan an infected person sneezes or coughs into anothers face. It can be spread indirectly by the hands that touch contaminated toys or tabletops (known as fomites) and subsequently touching their eyes or noses. The illness begins in approximately 3 to 7 days later.. Because the virus causing bronchiolitis can be spread to others and if the child is hospitalized due to deteriorating conditions an isolation sign shall be posted to remind others of precautions. The same precautions shall be utilized at the house if a diagnosis is made to your child. The following shall be followed: 1. Strict handwashing techniques by everyone in the family and the sharing of toys and objects shall be prohibited

2. If the child is hospitalized it is in the best interest and in part is a reuirement to wear gloves and gowns to prevent direct contact of the skin and clothing with respiratory secretions and contaminated surfaces. It may not be a bad idea to follow the same isolation precautions at home so as to avoid propagation of the disease. As far as feeding, most babies are offered a regular formula or breast milk. Liquids and fluids are one of the most important things needed by a baby with bronchiolitis. We all need to gauge the breathing of the child and make sure that they are breathing comfortably. When babies have bronchiolitis, the nose often gets plugged. This can make it hard to breathe while eating. Often the nose of an infant with bronchiolitis will be suctioned before being fed. Sometimes it is hard to suction mucus from the nose because it is very thick. When this happens, a little bit of saltwater such as saline nose drops re dropped into the nose before suctioning. Learn how to use a bulb suction to obtain the result desired. Some children with brionchiolitis may need to be hospitalized and be followed closely with their respiratory status and some may require the use of oxygen and be followed by the respiratory therapists and be assesed by a machine called pulsioximeter for his oxigenation status. As we stated before bronchiolitis usually goes away by itself. If the child may present with fever a non aspirin fever reducer may be used, Medicines such as bronchodilators may be tried and may work on a baby with bronchiolitis. Even if the baby was hospitalized and discharged, it maybe normal for the child to have the symptoms for a few days, the whistling sound or wheezes usually gets better in 2-5 days. But, the stuffy nose and cough may last for 1 to 2 weeks. Sleeping and eating routines may not return to normal for 4 to 7 days.

1. Let us make sure that no one smokes in the house this could b detrimental for a child with bronchiolitis. 2. Also, be sure to wash your hands frequently specially when handling the infant. Use saltwater nose drops and suction your baby’s nose if stuffy and if plugged up before feedings or putting your baby down to sleep. You can buy saltwater nose drops at any drug store and follow the instructions. 3. Do not give decongestant nose drops or any antihistamines or other cold medicines unless told by your Pediatrician. Always consult with your health care provider for any question or questions that you may have in reference to your child’s health.

Esta enfermedad o condición respiratoria es muy común en los bebes y en los niños pequeños. Ocurre durante el invierno y comienzos de la primavera y afecta a todo el tracto respiratorio. Los bronquiolos son los pasajes mas pequeños de aire en los pulmones. Los bronquiolos generalmente empiezan con un resfrío, a menudo con síntomas de fiebre, una nariz congestionada, y un apetito pobre o dificultar al chupar en los bebes. Después de 2 a 4 días, el virus se extiende a los bronquiolos, causando irritación y estrechamiento de los pasajes de aire. El resultado es un sonido sibilante o de silbido cuando se bota o expulsa el aire. La bronchiolitis es por regla general leve y el paciente, en este caso, el niño se va recuperando después de 3 a 4 días. Sin embargo, algunas veces la infección puede ser mas seria y requiere que el paciente sea admitido al hospital de niños. La bronquiolitis puede ser causado por cualquiera de los tantos virus que causan enfermedades parecidas a la gripe y al resfriado. El causante mas frequente es el virus respiratorio sinccial, seguido

por los virus de la parainfluenza. Los niños pequeños se contagian de estos virus durante el contacto cercano de niños mayores, familiares y de cualquier otra persona infectada. El virus se extiende directamente a las membranas mucosas cuando una persona infectada estornuda o tose a la cara de otra persona. Puede esparcirse indirectamente a través de la mano que toca juguetes contaminados o el tablero de la mesas y después se toca los ojos o la nariz. La enfermedad empieza después de 3 a 7 días de contagio. En el caso de que su niño sea ingresado al hospital de niños se inicia un aislamiento ya que este virus puede expandirse rápidamente. Estas recomendaciones de aislamiento pueden seguirse de acuerdo en la casa y durante el periodo de contagio y durante la temporada de flu o gripe: 1. Lavarse las manos antes y después de proveer cuidados al niño o paciente, cada vez de que se limpien las excreciones del paciente o después de tocar los juguetes u objetos como son los muebles. 2. Lavarse las manos es la mejor manera de prevenir de que se disemina la infección. En términos de nutrición a los bebes se le ofrece la formula o mejor, la leche materna para su manutención. Los líquidos son unas de las co-

Vamos a recordar algunos puntos importantes como son: 1. Asegúrese que nadie fume en la casa. El humo puede ser perjudicial no tan solo al que tenga ese vicio si no a las personas a su alrededor y es en especialmente malo para los bebes con bronquiolitis. 2. Asegurémoslos que nuestras manos están limpias y su lavado debe ser frecuente especialmente después de tocar al bebe. Use gotas de agua con sal para la nariz que se encuentran a su disposición en la farmacia. 3. No le de gotas nasales descongestionantes, antihistamínicos o cualquier otra medicina para el resfrío a menos de que sea o haya sido recetada por su medico o Pediatra.. Mantenga una buena comunicación siempre son su proveedor de salud. Hasta la próxima. La bronquiolitis generalmente desaparece por si sola y no ayuda el darle muchos medicamentos habiendo por supuesto alguna excepciones. Se pueden utilizar medicinas anti-febriles que no contengan aspirinas, en el caso de que su bebe este inconfortable o si tiene fiebre. Algunas veces se prueba con medicinas como son los broncodilatadores que se inhalan dentro de los pulmones. A veces ayudan a su bebe durante el transcurso de la enfermedad. Muy pocos bebes están en el hospital mas de 2 a 3 días a pesar que puedan seguir con esos síntomas unos días después de haber sido de alta del hospital. La respiración sibilante generalmente mejora en 2 a 5 días, la nariz congestionada o tapada al igual que la tos puede durar por una o dos semanas mas.

A menudo la nariz de un bebe con bronquiolitis debe ser succionada antes de su comida. Algunas veces es difícil succionar el moco fuera de la nariz ya que esta muy duro. Cuando esto sucede, se pone unas gotas de agua con sal por la nariz antes de succionarla, se debe de aprender como usar la bombilla en forma de pera para succionar.

fter a two year recess, the Football teams from the two principal high schools of Doral City got face to face again in the dispute for the Third Mayor’s Classic Cup. The game between the Ronald Reagan Senior High School Bison, and the Doral Academy Charter High School Firebirds, took place this past August 26th at the Millander Stadium in Hialeah, finalizing with a boardmark of 26 to 7, giving the Bison the victory for the very first time. The animation of fans from both sides was non stopping during the whole game. The game was positive for all participants. Discipline and good conduct prevailed, so the most important, the competition, served for the development of the students. While the Cup was fought for, the host of this competition, the Mayor of the City, Juan Carlos Bermudez, didn’t take his eyes from the field, following each movement, and said that Football game served the purpose of bringing together two schools of the area. “This is very positive for all involved” commented. “These are two good schools in sport combat. With this event we strive to create consciousness of friendship and discipline. This is a very demanding game and develops confidence in the students for their future”, Mayor Bermudez said. The team from the Reagan headed by John Lopez, and the Director of Field, Carlos Perez, reached the rest time governing the board 20 to 7, only to keep showing in the second time their physical superiority, and to imposed the reason why they would have take the Cup this time. “Tonight’s results are the fruit of our efforts and exercises during the summer” said the Director, Carlos Perez, visibly excited. For many, the result of the game was a surprise. Ronald Reagan’s is a fairly new team, which in a short period of time has reached the same status of quality of Doral Academy with more than eight years of experience playing. “At this moment, Reagan’s team had leveled game quality and physical conditions” Jesus Palacios, Superintendent of Parks for Dora City, commented for us. Another that was spotted among the fans was Renier Diaz de la Portilla, who told us that this way we can teach youth that with the fraternity of two teams competitiveness is developed too: “With sports we learn discipline, and to work as part of a team, those are lessons learned in the fields and schools, as well as at home, and serves for the development of future entrepreneurs and workers. We cannot forget the labor of the trainers and their dedication to teach good lessons to young students.” On the other hand, Douglas Rodriguez, Principal of Doral Academy Charter High School, said to be optimist because their students gave a good game. “I am very happy to see these two teams in the same field, playing after this recess period, it is positive for the community and for the schools…and I am proud of what we have seen”.

Los Bisones de Ronald Reagan High School se llevan la Copa Clasica del Alcalde

ras un receso de dos años, los equipos de Football americano de las dos principales escuelas secundarias de la ciudad de Doral, se volvieron a ver las caras para disputarse la 3ra. Copa Clásica del Alcalde. El juego entre los Bisones de Ronald Reagan Senior High School y los Firebirds de Doral Academy Charter High School, se llevó a cabo el 26 de agosto en el Milander Estadio    en Hialeah, concluyendo con el marcador de 26 a 7, dando la victoria por primera vez para los Bisones, Ambos equipos jugaron duro y la gran cantidad de fans de ambas escuelas aplaudieron y animaron sin parar durante toda la noche. El juego fue positivo para todos los participantes, donde prevaleció la disciplina, la conducta y la más importante, la competencia, que sirve para el desarrollo de los estudiantes. Mientras se disputaba la Copa, el anfitrion de esta competencia, el alcalde de la Ciudad, Juan Carlos Bermudez, no perdió de vista ni un solo movimiento de los jugadores y nos comentó que esta era una buena oportunidad de unir a las dos escuelas jugando footbal americano. “Esto es muy positivo para todos los involucrados. Estas son dos buenas escuelas combatiendo deporti-

vamente. Con este evento se logra crear consciencia de amistad y disciplina, ya que es un deporte muy exigente, y a su vez fortalece la seguridad de los estudiantes para su desarrollo en el futuro”, nos dijo el alcalde Bermudez. El conjunto del Reagan dirigido por Jhon Lopez y el Director de Atletismo, Carlos Perez llegó al descanso mandando en el marcador por 20 – 7, para en la segunda parte, seguir demostrando su superioridad fisica e imponer por que se llevaría la Copa. “El resultado de esta noche es el fruto de nuestro trabajo y ejercicios durante todo verano” dijo el entusiasmado director, Carlos Perez. Y es que para algunos, el resultado fue sorpresivo, porque el equipo de Ronald Reagan, es un equipo particularmente nuevo y que ha llegado a un estatus de calidad equivalente con el Doral Academy, que lleva mas de ocho años jugando y con una larga experiencia. “El equipo de Reagan en este momento se encuentra en un mismo nivel en lo que ha juego se refiere y condición física deportiva”, nos dijo Jesús Palacios, Superintendente de Parques de la ciudad de Doral. Quién también se encontraba, animando a las escuelas era Renier Diaz de la Portilla, quién nos comentó

que de esta manera, se educa a la juventud, y con la fraternidad de dos equipos se desarrolla la competitividad. “Con el deporte aprendemos la disciplina, y a trabajar en equipo, son lecciones que se aprenden en los escenarios y en la escuela como también en los hogares, y que sirve de educación para la formación de futuros prospectos de empresarios y trabajadores. También no podemos olvidar el esfuerzo de los entrenadores y su vocación para enseñar a los jóvenes estudiantes. Por otro lado, Douglas Rodríguez, Director de Doral Academy Charter High School, dijo sentirse optimista, porque sus estudiantes hicieron un buen desempeño en el campo… “Me encuentro contento de ver a estos dos equipos en un mismo campo jugando, después de de un periodo de receso, resulta positivo para la comunidad y para las escuelas… y me siento orgulloso de lo que vimos”.

Doral Field Hockey will begin a new season In December 1st, one of our other developments will begin their season. This is the open category, also known as Black Angels. These ladies will begin their practices that month and by March 2012 they will be competing in their first tournament in Tampa. We expect many new things happening this season, the first Junior Field Hockey Florida League will begin activities, we will be traveling to the Atlanta Cup for the first time, USA Field Hockey Futures program will hopefully send many of our players to Virginia to compete in the Regional and National Hockey tournament, and many more wonderful things. All of this growth was possible thanks to the unconditional support of the Field Hockey families, the incredible and very committed players and the very passionate group of coaches this club has. Today, I want to thank you all!!!!!. Let’s make history!

his September, Doral Field Hockey will begin a new season full of expectations and new events. To begin with, for the first time, we are going to have boys practicing of the sport. This would be only the second Junior Field Hockey development for boys throughout the State of Florida. We expect a lot of good things coming from this new development. Also, our girls categories will begin from a younger age. This year we are introducing our “Tigers”. These will be our boys and girls from 5 and 6 years old. This is also new to our State but, although these players will have less chances of competition, we need to introduce the sport at this early age so when they reach the age for competition, they are “good to go”. For this new division of categories, Doral Field Hockey has enlarged the number of coaches and in this way, we will be sure that we are catering for every one of our amazing players.

stimados amigos es un placer regresar con ustedes luego de hacer esta parada de 3 semanas en la Formula 1, con nuevas baterías llegan los pilotos y equipos a este el Gran Premio de Bélgica en el legendario circuito de Spa Francorchamps. Este circuito es uno de los más afamados y legendarios en la historia del automovilismo mundial. Uno de los factores determinantes en esta pista es el clima que cambia drásticamente de un momento a otro, recordemos carreras de gran emoción que a faltando 10 vueltas por terminar, se tornaron totalmente distintas a lo acostumbrado apareciendo la lluvia para dar a los espectadores un final no apto para cardiacos, pero sin más preámbulo pasemos a describir los hechos en este gran escenario. Sábado Agosto 27: seria el dia de una clasificación donde Sbastian Vettel daría continuidad dictatorial de la clasificación haciendo la pole con un crono de 1:48.298, sin embargo Lewis Hamilton estaría muy cerca a 1:48.730 dejando el tercer puesto de la clasificación a Mark Webber con 1:49.376. luego estaría Felipe Massa y Nico Rosberg para así cerrar los cinco primeros en la clasificación. De nuevo Hamilton estaría involucrado en una situación en pista al forcejear con el venezolano Pastor Maldonado quien resultaría penalizado por obstruir de forma peligrosa al ingles de McLaren, Maldonado sería sancionado con cinco posiciones que lo enviarían al puesto 22 de la parrilla de salida por otro lado Michael Schumacher saldría desde la última posición como consecuencia de la salida de la rueda de su Mercedes durante la Q1. Así se daría la salida en Spa que cobraría varios toques entre los autos en la primera curva. Cuando Senna llegaba pasado de frenos a la misma y así despacharía a Alguersuari quien lograra una clasificación impresionante en el sexto puesto de la parrilla de salida… Alonso también llevaría un toque del auto de Jaime pero saldría ileso para así iniciar la remontada rumbo al pódium. Vettel largaria primero sin inconvenientes y mantendría su posición seguido de Rosberg quien rebasaría a Vettel para arrebatarle la primera posición en carrera sin embargo al calentar gomas Vettel rebasaría a Rosberg desde atrás vendría Hamilton atacando a los Ferraris de Alonso y Massa, entrarían a pits y Fernando se quedaría rodando con gomas blandas en el

respiraría un clima de entrega por parte de Mclaren y Ferrari quienes pudieran ya estar reconduciendo su política de desarrollo hacia el próximo campeonato.

La próxima cita será el circuito de Monza, casa de la Ferrari, donde los ferraristas dan unos caballos de potencia mas a los pilotos de la casa roja, veremos cosas interesantes ya que tanto Ferrari como Mclaren llevan nuevos adelantos aerodinámicos en sus autos para así intentar detener la impresionante avanzada de los hombres de Red Bull que hasta ahora son indetenibles. Desde aquí desde los pits observaremos que puede acontecer en Monza este próximo domingo 11 de septiembre cuando se apaguen los semáforos y se de la largada del GP de Italia.

Con esta victoria Vettel deja en una posición muy cómoda la sentencia de este campeonato 2011 que pudiera definirse en las dos próximas carreras dependiendo de cómo lleguen los seguidores de Vettel y por supuesto si Sevastian se mantiene ganando. En declaraciones luego de la carrera ya se

primer lugar hasta que Hamilton en una maniobra de pase a Kobayashi con toque de rueda incluido que a demás le dejaría fuera de carrera y traería como consecuencia la salida del carro de seguridad mientras que Ferrari con Alonso apostaba a tirar de una ventaja ante Vettel que ya había entrado a pits a colocar gomas frescas que al final seria la clave de la victoria para el joven campeón Aleman. Así con el Auto de seguridad se reanudaría la carrera y Ferrari tendría que cambiar gomas lo cual relegaría a Alonso a la sexta posición Jenson Button que con una demostración de manejo de la estrategia perfecta avanzaría posiciones demostrando que definitivamente es el piloto que mejor ha sabido interpretar el uso de las gomas Pirelli. Desde atrás también vendría Michael Shumacher quien daría cuenta en la vueltas finales de su compañero Rosberg, para asi conmemorar sus 20 años de carrera en la Formula 1, otra de las grandes remontadas la protagonizo el Venezolano Pastor Maldonado quien se hizo del 10 lugar y obtuvo su primer punto en la Formula 1 igualando a su compatriota el legendario Jhonny Cecotto quien también ostenta un punto en la máxima categoría. Así llegaríamos a las vueltas finales con un Vettel consolidado en el primer lugar seguido por Webber quien apuraría el paso lograría reponerse a su mala salida para así se acomodaría en el segundo lugar detrás de Vettel que ya lucia inalcanzable y controlaba la carrera. Ferrari lograba el tercer puesto con Fernando Alonso pero Button con su mclaren le recortaba 4 segundos por vuelta y faltando 5 vueltas para el final y gracias a la buena estrategia del equipo Ingles que junto a su piloto manejarían las gomas de forma espectacular dando cuenta de Fernando y su Ferrari que quedaría relegado a la cuarta posición sin poder hacer nada para contener la arremetida del Ingles que consolidaría un fantástico tercer lugar en el pódium de Spa, quinto se Shumacher y sexto Rosberg con un Adrian Sutil que lograría terminar por encima de Massa quien seria octavo, Petrov y Maldonado cerrarían los 10 primeros en Spa.

Se inaugura escuela de música en Doral El día 7 de septiembre se inauguró la Escuela de Música “123 Arts Center Leonardo Timor”, en la ciudad de Doral teniendo como marco de la vigilia del Día de la Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre. El evento protocolario contó con la presencia del alcalde de Doral, Juan Carlos Bermúdez y la Coordinadora de Desarrollo Economico de Doral, Bettina Rodríguez Aguilera; profesores, amigos y miembros de la Big Band. Porque la cultura transforma a la gente, el proyecto de “123 Arts Center Leonardo Timor”, comienza sus actividades bajo la dirección del Maestro Leonardo Timor, y el impulso de Silvia Hernández y Diana Gutiérrez. El objetivo de la escuela será desarrollar, la inteligencia musical, formando instrumentistas, compositores y directores de coro. La idea es conformar una orquesta infantil a través del aprendizaje de diversos instrumentos, como violín, viola, violoncello, contrabajo, flauta, trompeta, trombón, tuba y percusiones. Actualmente las actividades se realizaran con mas ímpetu, poniendo su servicio y conocimiento al servicio de nuestra comunidad, coadyuvando a hacer emerger los dones en las personas y haciendo florecer su talento.
