Nos esmeramos en ofrecerles a nuestros lectores información variada e interesante que no sólo refleje lo que pasa en nuestra comunidad, sino que plantee de forma clara, imparcial, objetiva y hasta amena los problemas y necesidades de Doral, ofreciendo soluciones posibles que contribuyan con el crecimiento de la ciudad.

Honesty because we try to remain impartial, showing both sides of the story and maintaining the basic principle of journalism: objectivity. We avoid presenting the news in a sensationalist manner, we rather focus on creating clear and fair stories intended to build a better community. The truth is that, ever since the very first pages of the First Edition until this day, I have always seen the Doral Family Journal as an extension of my personal and professional growth. What I have learned through these 100 issues goes beyond having acquired new journalistic knowledge, as it has also allowed me to learn to understand, help and love even more the community of Doral. It makes me proud to say that we are part of Doral’s schools, not only because our paper is distributed in each of them but also because we strive to produce enriching and cultural content that will provide educational information, and now we are even launching a project to link the businesses of Doral to our schools. 100 EDICIONES COMPROMETIDOS CON LAS FAMILIAS DE DORAL

Creativity because we do not settle for the obvious. We strive to offer our readers assorted and interesting information not only reflecting what happens in our community, yet also to alert in a clear, impartial, objective and even pleasant manner about the issues and needs of Doral, while offering possible solutions that contribute with the city’s growth.

Emotion because every sleepless night we spend designing, working on layouts, writing or researching is more than a sacrifice, it is really about the satisfaction that we get by making each edition interesting, entertaining and truly informative. It is all about the joy we get every time one of our articles is talked about or when our clients are pleased with the advertisement work.

¡Gracias a todos!

Yet what is really important after these 100 issues is to give thanks. To thank Doral’s community for its faithful reading, the local authorities for their support and specially the loyalty of our clients that has allowed the constant development and growth of our pages. Finally, I want to thank our contributors and personnel of our paper, many of which are my close friends and who have helped me lead the paper with commitment and responsibility. Thank you all!!!... There is much more to come in the future so be prepared for 100 more issues of Doral Family Journal.

Emoción porque cada noche de desvelo que pasamos diseñando, diagramando, redactando o investigando es más que un sacrificio, es realmente, la satisfacción que nos produce hacer que cada edición sea interesante, entretenida y realmente informativa. Es la alegría que nos genera cada vez que comentan nuestros artículos o que nuestros clientes se muestran complacidos por el trabajo publicitario. Honestidad porque tratamos de ser imparciales, mostrar los dos lados de cada historia y mantener el principio básico del periodismo: la objetividad. Evitamos presentar las noticias de forma amarillista o sensacionalista, más bien creamos historias claras, transparentes y equitativas dirigidas a crear una mejor comunidad. La verdad es que, desde las primeras páginas de la edición Nro. 1 hasta hoy, siempre he visto a Doral Family Journal como una extensión de mi crecimiento personal y profesional. El aprendizaje que he tenido a través de estas 100 publicaciones va más allá de haber adquirido nuevos conocimientos periodísticos, pues también me han permitido aprender a entender, ayudar y querer aún más a la comunidad de Doral. Me llena de orgullo decir que formamos parte de las escuelas de Doral, no sólo porque circulamos en cada una de ellas, sino también porque nos esmeramos en producir contenidos interesantes y culturales que aporten información educativa y ahora estamos impulsando un proyecto que va a permitir vincular a los comercios de Doral con nuestros colegios. Pero lo realmente importante en estas 100 ediciones es dar gracias. Agradecer a la comunidad de Doral por su fiel lectura, agradecer a las autoridades locales por su respaldo y especialmente a nuestros clientes, quienes con su lealtad han hecho posible el constante desarrollo y crecimiento de nuestras páginas. Finalmente, quiero dar las gracias a nuestros colaboradores y al personal que trabaja con nosotros, muchos de los cuales son mis amigos cercanos y me han ayudado a guiar el periódico con compromiso y responsabilidad. ayor Luigi Boria addressed a packed audience at the Council Chamber on Tuesday evening, to deliver his 2015 State of the City of Doral address. A formal ceremony was the perfect match for a moderate and concise text, which went beyond covering the results of the past year, to become a compilation of the issues tackled over the last three years by the Mayor and Council. As the City of Doral Police Department Color Guard presented the Colors, Chief of Police Donald De Lucca led the Pledge of Allegiance; Alberto Castro, a student from Ronald W. Reagan/Doral Senior High School performed the National Anthem and Pastor Steve Alessi gave the Invocation. In attendance were Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz and Property Appraiser Pedro Garcia, as well as representatives from the offices of federal, state and county elected officials and the SouthCom Garrison Manager Mr. Andy Bird. Before introducing Mayor Boria, City Manager Eddie Rojas recognized the success, dedication and teamwork of the staff during this year that has led to high standards of public service, and has increased the national and international recognition for Doral.

“THE STATE OF THE CITY IS STRONG”

Boria began the address remembering that when he was first elected to his position, the country had merely begun to emerge from the economic crisis: “We entered office facing county-wide traffic, development projects—dormant for years— suddenly starting construction, and the demands of our fast-growing community. Your City Council met those challenges head-on.” One of the issues Boria has insisted during all his mandate has been keeping local municipal taxes at the lowest possible. His achievements on this matter were among the first results presented on his speech. “We have put your tax dollars to work in our roads, our public safety, and our wellness” said Boria. “We have improved City finances and our quality of life. And we have done all this while maintaining the highest reserves and the lowest millage rate in our City’s history. Yes, the State of our City is strong and it is only getting stronger.” Mayor Boria was confident to affirm that “Doral is better than it’s ever been, and it’s only getting

TRAFFIC: DORAL A MIXED-USE URBAN CENTER

Regarding the traffic, that constitutes the most important issue at the moment for Doral residents, Boria summarized the different traffic relief projects that are ongoing at the moment, and are expected to alleviate the situation in the upcoming months, such as the connections between 74th street and 97th avenue and 109th avenue and 41st street. “We are completing the traffic grid. We are creating new roadway connections to ease traffic in our major corridors.” He also explained that the city is transitioning to a new “mixed-use urban center, where everyone will have a variety of methods to move. When we say, “Doral is on the move,” I want that to mean on foot, on bike, on trolley, or your car.”

SAFETY ACHIEVEMENTS AND RECOGNITIONS

Right on cue, as the Mayor began praising the achievements of the City of Doral Police Department on 2015, a video started to play on the background monitors, showing the ceremony where the department became the 11th force in Miami-Dade to receive the Commission of Florida Accreditation of Law Enforcement. “Our police force has created a crime suppression team that looks for patterns in criminal behavior.”

Other achievements remarked were the creation of 1,200 new businesses only on 2015. “Doral means business, and the city has created a business friendly environment. As a result, Doral is recognized as an emerging economic engine in Miami-Dade County and South Florida.” Regarding education, Boria expressed his satisfaction for the upcoming building of 2 more K-8 schools and a new High school, besides the recently opened Downtown Doral Charter Elementary School, all these achieved in a joint effort with Miami-Dade County Public Schools. He also commended the hard work of the Parks and Recreations Department, recognized the leadership of Director Barbara Hernandez and described the benefits that the two upcoming facilities (Doral Legacy Park and Doral Glades Park) will provide for the community. Boria concluded the address praising the work of his fellow Councilmembers “We have forged a vision for this city’s future; although challenges remain, we will meet them with passion, courage, humility, loyalty, and resilience.” The majority of the public in attendance to the address were staff, members of the Advisory Boards, business and community leaders who have been actively involved on the city this year and members of the media. A more mature and involved crowd than in previous years. Boria closed the address asking if Doral is now better than three years ago and answered himself, in Spanish, “İClaro que si! Of Course it is!” The year 2016, being a year where three out of the five seats of the City Council will be up for reelection, will certainly bring more challenges to the current administration and a close scrutiny of their actions and decisions by the citizens. They will need more tangible results that impact positively the quality of life, and resonate louder than charisma to the residents, to ensure a positive outcome in the polls.

Informe de Gestión de la Ciudad de Doral

nte una apretada audiencia, el Alcalde Luigi Boria presentó el martes 17 de Noviembre su Informe de Gestión de la Ciudad de Doral 2015. La ceremonia formal estuvo muy acorde con el texto moderado y conciso del discurso, que más allá de cubrir los resultados del 2015, resultó una compilación de todos los aspectos atendidos por el Alcalde y concejales en los últimos tres años. Presenciaron el acto el Comisionado José “Pepe” Diaz y el Tasador Municipal Pedro Garcia, asi como representantes de los oficiales electos federales, estatales y del Condado Miami-Dade. También estuvo el Gerente de Guarnición del Comando Sur, Sr. Andy Bird Antes de la presentación del Alcalde, el Administrador Municipal, Sr. Eddie Rojas, hizo un reconocimiento al éxito, dedicación y trabajo en equipo de los empleados de la ciudad, por sus altos estándares de servicio público, que han incrementado el reconocimiento nacional e internacional de la ciudad.

“LA CIUDAD ESTÁ MUY SÓLIDA”

Boria inicio el discurso recordando que cuando fue elegido hace tres años, apenas el Condado se recuperaba de la profunda crisis económica: “Cuando llegué a la alcaldía encontramos que proyectos de tráfico y desarrollo en todo el condado, que habían estado suspendidos, fueron reiniciados, aunados a las necesidades de nuestra creciente comunidad. Como Concejo enfrentamos juntos esos retos.” Uno de los aspectos en los que Boria ha insistido todo su mandato es mantener los impuestos locales al nivel más bajo posible. Este fue uno de los primeros logros que presentó en su discurso. “Hemos puesto sus impuestos a trabajar en nuestras carreteras, en seguridad pública y bienestar ciudadano. Hemos mejorado las finanzas de la Ciudad y la calidad de vida. Y todo lo hemos hecho manteniendo al máximo las reservas y la tasa de amillaramiento más baja en toda la historia de la Ciudad. Definitivamente la Ciudad está muy sólida y seguirá fortaleciéndose.” El Alcalde Boria afirmó con confianza que “Doral está mejor que nunca. Estamos demostrando ahora, más que en cualquier otro momento de nuestra historia, que esta es una comunidad donde podemos vivir, trabajar, aprender y divertirnos.”

DESARROLLO DE NEGOCIOS, EDUCACIÓN Y RECREACIÓN

DORAL, UN CENTRO URBANO MIXTO

El primer tema abordado en el discurso fue el tráfico en la ciudad, porque es un aspecto importante actualmente para todos los residentes. Boria resumió los diferentes proyectos de mejoramiento del tráfico que están actualmente en proceso, incluidas las conexiones entre la calle 74 y la 97 avenida, o la calle 41 y la 109 avenida. “Estamos completando nuestra red de vialidad y creando nuevas conexiones para aliviar el tráfico en las arterias principales.” Explico también que la ciudad está en transición hacia un modelo de “centro urbano mixto, donde todos tendrán diferentes medios de transporte. Cuando decimos ‘Doral en Movimiento’ queremos decir que puede ser andando, en bicicleta, en el trolley o en su auto.”

RECONOCIMIENTOS Y LOGROS EN SEGURIDAD

Justo cuando el Alcalde celebró los logros del Departamento de Policía en el 2015, aparecieron en las pantallas videos mostrando la ceremonia de certificación del Departamento por parte de la comisión de acreditación de cuerpos de seguridad de Florida. “Nuestros oficiales han creado una unidad para prevención del crimen que revisa patrones en el comportamiento criminal” Al teniente Yojan Martínez y el Sargento Leonel Peña, quienes recibieron reconocimiento público junto al Jefe De Lucca, por ser parte de ese equipo. “Sabemos que nuestros oficiales están haciendo un gran trabajo, puesto que el crimen no se ha incrementado en la ciudad en los últimos tres años” afirmó Boria.

Otros logros presentados incluyeron la creación de 1,200 nuevos negocios solamente en 2015. “Doral significa negocios, y la ciudad ha creado un ambiente receptivo a las iniciativas. Como resultado, Doral ha sido reconocida como un núcleo de crecimiento económico para el Sur de Florida y el Condado MiamiDade.” Con respecto a la educación, Boria expresó su satisfacción por la próxima construcción de dos nuevos Centros K8 y una nueva secundaria, además de la recién inaugurada Downtown Doral Charter Elementary School. Todos estos logros son un esfuerzo conjunto con Miami-Dade County Public Schools. También felicitó al Departamento de Parques y Recreación por su excelente trabajo, reconociendo el liderazgo de su Directora Bárbara Hernández y describió los beneficios que los nuevos Parques Doral Legacy y Doral Glades traerán a la comunidad. Boria concluyó su presentación alabando el trabajo de sus compañeros en el Concejo Municipal. “Hemos forjado la visión de la ciudad del futuro. Aunque aún vendrán retos, los enfrentaremos con pasión, coraje, humildad, lealtad y perseverancia.” La mayoría del público presente fue personal de la Alcaldía, miembros de los Consejos Asesores, Líderes de negocios y comunitarios que han estado activos en la ciudad este año y miembros de los medios. Un grupo más maduro, interesado e involucrado en el futuro de la ciudad, comparado con el público de años anteriores. Boria concluyó el discurso con la pregunta “¿Está Doral mejor ahora que hace tres años?” respondiéndose en Español, “İ Claro que sí!” El 2016, al ser un año electoral, donde estarán en juego tres de las cinco sillas del Concejo Municipal, ciertamente traerá muchos retos para la administración actual y un seguimiento cercano por parte de los ciudadanos sobre sus acciones y decisiones. Para asegurarse un resultado positivo en las urnas, el Alcalde y Concejales necesitarán resultados tangibles que impacten positivamente la calidad de vida y resuenen más fuerte que el carisma en la memoria de los residentes.

Celebrating Thanksgiving as Families A Gift and a Privilege to Treasure By: Grecia Romero

For decades, family has been defined as the fundamental unit of society. It is in the center of a family that a human being can learn and practice a complete and long list of values in life: love, unity, tolerance, patience, loyalty, respect, generosity, humility, empathy, trust, understanding, and many others. Overall, the family is the canvas where children learn virtues, gain experiences, and develop their character which will allow them to be the best they can be for their future. With that in mind, Doral Family Journal, as a big family in this community, wants to celebrate this Thanksgiving dedicating our 100th anniversary edition to honor all the families living in Doral. As a representation of what this community is, and the virtues and messages families in Doral have to share, this special edition is featuring four families and their way they celebrate Thanksgiving showing their contribution to what they consider more important in life.

VILLALOBOS – OLAVARRIA FAMILY: LOVE IS THE FOUNDATION

Pablo Villalobos, Jackelyn Olavarria and their 10 months-old baby Dereck have lived in Doral for the past 2 years. Even though both are from Venezuela,

their lives crossed path here in the States six years ago during one of Pablo’s business trip. They have been happily married for three years now. Different reasons brought them here. Jacky wanted to continue her higher education by obtaining a master

degree, and Pablo decided to establish in the U.S. because of his career and personal development. Now, as a family, they put their talents together at work establishing their own car rental company called ‘Pablo Cars’ and they are also opening a restaurant at this moment. Pablo is also the Artistic Manager of the well-known celebrities “Chino y Nacho”. All of these activities keep them with a very busy agenda for this young family, who defined themselves as a “hard-working family with a lot of personal and professional goals in common”. But that is not an obstacle for them to place priorities first, “despite our work and commitments, we are a very united family. We always find time to share love and quality time”, says Jacky. “Family for us is another way to say love, and since love is the most important feeling in a person, family is the best source for us to learn that” adds Jacky, We have been taught by our parents that love and respect are fundamentals in life”. Pablo and Jacky believe that family should be the center for understanding, respect, support, and union, “All of these virtues are taught in the loving environment of a family, because family is the most important school for a human being”. As they continue sharing “in the family, all members need to grow in honesty, and self-respect to being able to share that with others, letting shine the inner light without switching off the light of others, but helping them to be better each day, because the one who gives more, receive more”. “During this Thanksgiving, we want to be thankful to God for all His daily blessings. To be thankful for all members in our family because they are there for us in good and in bad moments, sharing their love one to another. Also, thanking for friends who are like family, co-workers, doctors, and people in the grocery mall, those who are in our life and take part of it”. And they conclude saying that “family is one of the most complex projects in life, but it is indeed the one that teaches us the most pure love we can feel”.

ERTHAL FAMILY: FAITH AND UNITY

Claudia and Carlos Frederico Erthal were from in Brazil. They have been married for over 22 years, and have 3 boys, Jonas 20, Nathan 18, and David 17. Carlos is currently a sales director at IBM in the US, and Claudia is a former PE teacher. She has dedicated

her time to volunteer work since becoming residents of Doral. During the 15 years that they have been living in Doral, this family has always been active participants of many city activities. Their three children have attended schools in the city, participated on several sports and were part of the Cub/Boy scouts at the Pack/Troop 552. They have also been parishioners of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church since 2002, when it was based at EBT. For the Erthals “Family is the cell of the society, where members depend on each other to live and to grow, and learn from each other how to share, to love, to be patient and tolerant. These attributes are essential to become good citizens in the society”. The Erthals consider Family as treasure as they see it as a human way to reflect God. “Husband and wife become one, and their kids are the fruit of their love. This relationship of unity and love reflects a better image of our Creator, who is per se the “perfect family” (Father, Son and Holy Spirit)”. In this sense, they consider faith and unity as the main virtues that define their family as it is an important part of their daily life: “We value the sacraments of the Catholic Church and attend mass every weekend as a family. We also discuss the gospel and pray the rosary every Sunday. We strive to provide time, talent and treasure by engaging on ministries and stewardship initiatives”. These practices have helped them to develop faith, unity, tolerance, patience, loyalty, unconditional love, generosity, humility and desire to understand and do God’ will. All of them essential virtues to overcome the challenges of living abroad, far from the loved ones they left in Brazil. They say that their faith is the link

with their family and friends, which allows them to stay close during difficult times. They celebrate Thanksgiving with local friends, and even though they have different religions (Catholics, Jews and other Christian denominations), they unite in prayer to thank God for their friendship and countless blessings despite any problem they may encounter, as they say “No family is perfect because nobody is perfect. However, if we acknowledge that we need God’s mercy and help to improve our relationships, we can overcome the natural challenges and difficulties faced in today’s secular culture. We need to honor our family regardless of its size or the size of its problems. It is a gift from God that you must be thankful for”.

ROHL FAMILY: TRUST, CARING, EMPATHY

Lynda Ocanto-Rohl, and her son Carlos Alfonso Rohl (Foncho) have lived in Doral for the past 13 years. There are two members in their family, but as Lynda said “it was not always like that, when we came to live to this country, we had a third member, my husband Carlos Alfredo Rohl who moved two years ago to have a residence in heaven”.

Lynda and Carlos came from Venezuela looking for a better future for them and their 5 years-old son. Coming from a big family, the decision to move to a country with no relatives wasn’t easy, but it was made with a “smile and infinite love” for their child, knowing that they would find new opportunities to grow as family as well, and indeed they did. Living in the U.S. gave Lynda and Carlos the opportunity to fully develop the virtues that defined their family: trust, caring, empathy and respect. As couple, they were always compassionate on the needs of others and dedicated their time to help the homeless as Lynda remembers: “Some years ago, Carlos, Foncho and I joined a group in Doral that gives food and clothes to those who live in extreme poverty in the street of Miami. We learned that working together serving others is a blessing that unites families in many aspects”. After Carlos Alfredo’s passing, Foncho continued the mission his parents started. He joined a group that

supported the need of others at his former Christopher Columbus High School, and now, even with the busy schedule of being a freshman at the University of Miami where he’s studying Psychology and a minor in pre-med, he is still supporting the homeless by planning this year to gather back packs to turn them into “Care Kits” as he calls it, as a simple way to provide practical help to a homeless person (toiletries, food and clothes). After everything they have gone through, Lynda and Foncho have found the real meaning of a big family, as they say “people you can trust, who are always there for you, despite of the situation and without interest in anything in return. People who are able to love others more”. Losing a member of the family so suddenly is difficult and challenging but despite the hard moments, they always try to put the wishes of others before their own as they share, “there is always someone who has less than what we have”. During this Thanksgiving Lynda and Foncho plan to enjoy every minute together, being aware of what Foncho advise to all Doral Families: “We sometimes takes our family for granted, or we consider it something we deserve and we don’t appreciate it too much until it’s too late. We need to be thankful for having one even when we know it’s not perfect. Keep talking the truth, show respect and love every day because we never know when it will be the last hug”.

RABBI AVROHOM AND ZELDA BRASHEVITZKY: GRATITUDE, APPRECIATION AND SHARING.

Rabbi Avrohom and Zelda Brashevitzky are originally from Brooklyn NY. They moved to Doral around 10 years ago to establish the Chabad Jewish Center of Doral, “an outreach Jewish Community based organization geared towards bringing all Jews together and at the same time bringing Judaism’s message of a better world and good values to all”. They started from their own home and now they have their own center / synagogue on NW 58 St. In addition to working with the local Jewish residents and business community, Rabbi Brashevitzky has devoted himself to serve the entire City of Doral community, which he considers as family, through volunteering on the advisory boards and serving as one of the Chaplains of the Police Department. Rabbi Avrohom and Zelda Brashevitzky have 10 children. The oldest is 18 and studying in Israel, and the youngest is just 5 months old. For them, family is a precious treasure, they consider family and extended

family as their life. Years ago they had a very personal experience that stablished a new tradition for them, a new thanksgiving celebration: “When we moved to Doral, it was before Passover (May/April) and we were expecting many guests. Zeldie went shopping for a very large pot for chicken soup. All the stores did not have any large pots. Upon inquiry with one of the managers she was told that they only carry large cookware during “cooking season”, namely Thanksgiving...” “When Zeldie shared this information with me I had an Epiphany: In our home (as well as in every Jewish observant home) – Every Week is “cooking season”. We sit down for an elaborate dinner every Friday evening to celebrate Shabbat (Sabbath). Whether it was a good or bad week - we sit down together as a family with friends and guests. It occurred to me to implement the following idea: ‘Every Friday Eve dinner we go around the table and everybody says something they are thankful for’ - That occurred that week!” Since that day, they express their gratitude, sharing and appreciating everything they have… “Why wait for once a year to be thankful? So many good things happen every week, we should give thanks and show appreciation more often!” they say. They consider that “Thanksgiving is a great Holiday, and it should be celebrated with family (not online for some materialistic things)”. But they advise that “we should utilize it to thank God for all the good we have. However, it is to our benefit to also do so (at least in small measure) more often than once a year”, especially for “our family because having a family to share their time with, even to whom to complain or a shoulder to cry on is a lot to be thankful for!” Doral Family Journal wants to take this special occasion to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving in union with all your love ones. Celebrando Acción de Gracias en Familia Un Regalo y un Privilegio que Atesorar

Como es de suponer, todos estos compromisos representan una agenda muy ocupada para esta pareja, que se define a sí misma como una “familia joven muy trabajadora y luchadora, con muchas metas en común tanto personales como laborales”. Quienes saben equilibrar las ocupaciones y sus prioridades, como dice Jacky: “Somos una familia muy unida, que a pesar del trabajo y los compromisos siempre buscamos un tiempo para compartir y darnos amor”. “Para nosotros la Familia es sinónimo de amor, y el amor es el sentimiento más importante que el ser humano puede sentir, por eso la familia es el ente donde aprenderlo”, añade Jacky. “Nuestros padres nos han enseñado que el amor y el respeto son fundamentales en esta vida”. Pablo y Jacky ven la familia como el centro de comprensión, respeto, apoyo, entendiendo y unión; para ellos “La familia es el pilar de la sociedad y una buena educación comienza en casa. La familia es la escuela más importante en la vida de una persona”. En su opinión “Las familias deben cultivar principios y valores, respeto hacia uno mismo y hacia los demás. Cultivar las buenas acciones y dejar muy claras las malas para no realizarlas, pues el ser humano debe brillar por luz propia y no apagando la luz de otros”. Consejan “ser mejores personas cada día y ayudar al prójimo porque el que más da, más recibe en bendiciones”. “En este Día de Acción de Gracias, deseamos agradecer a Dios pues sin el nada sería posible. A la familia por estar allí en los momentos buenos y malos, con amor incondicional. A todas esas personas que son como familia: amigos, compañeros de trabajo, empleados, conocidos, personas que frecuentamos y forman parte de nuestras vidas”, y así poder sentir, como ellos concluyen, que aunque “la familia es uno de los proyectos más complejos de la vida, tal vez el compromiso más grande, es también el que el enseña el amor más puro que pueda sentirse”.

Jacky deseaba continuar sus estudios universitarios de postgrado y Pablo decidió establecerse en Estados Unidos considerando esta mudanza lo más beneficioso para su crecimiento laboral y personal. Pablo Villalobos, Jackelyn Olavarria y su pequeno Dereck de 10 meses de edad han vivido en Doral por los últimos dos años. Aun cuando ambos vienen de Venezuela, fue en USA donde sus vidas se cruzaron hace seis años en un viaje de negocios de Pablo y ya llevan tres años felizmente casados.

FAMILIA ERTHAL: FE Y UNIDAD

Durante los 15 años que han vivido en Doral, la familia Erthal ha sido muy activa en todas las actividades de la ciudad; Sus tres hijos han asistido a las escuelas locales, practicaron varios deportes y fueron parte de los Cub/ Boy Scouts en el Pack/Tropa 552. También han sido feligreses de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe desde 2002. Para los Erthal: “La familia es la célula de la sociedad, donde los miembros dependen unos de otros para vivir, crecer y aprender fundamentos como: compartir, amar, ser paciente y tolerante. Estos atributos son esenciales para llegar a ser buenos ciudadanos en la sociedad”. Los Erthal consideran la familia como un tesoro, ya que lo ven como una forma humana de reflejar a Dios: “El esposo y la esposa se convierten en uno, y sus hijos son el fruto de su amor. Esta relación de unidad y amor refleja la mejor imagen de nuestro Creador, el cual es en sí misma la “familia perfecta” (Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo)”. En este sentido, consideran que la fe y la unidad son las principales virtudes que definen su familia, ya que es una parte importante de su vida cotidiana: “Valoramos los sacramentos de la Iglesia Católica y como familia, asistimos a misa cada fin de semana. Comentamos el evangelio y rezamos el rosario todos los domingos. Nos esforzamos por ofrecer tiempo, talento y tesoro mediante la participación de los ministerios y las iniciativas de la iglesia”. Estas prácticas les han ayudado a desarrollar la fe, la unidad, la tolerancia, la paciencia, la lealtad, el amor incondicional, la generosidad, la humildad y el deseo de entender y hacer la voluntad de Dios. Todas ellas virtudes esenciales para superar los desafíos de vivir en el extranjero, lejos de los seres queridos que dejaron en Brasil. Los Erthal afirman que su fe es el nexo con su familia y amigos, lo que les permite permanecer cerca de

ellos en los momentos difíciles. Durante la celebración de Acción de Gracias, suelen celebrar con amigos locales, que a pesar profesar distintas religiones (católicos, judíos y otras denominaciones cristianas), se unen en oración para agradecer a Dios por su amistad, y el sinnúmero de bendiciones que reciben sin detenerse en las dificultades que se presenten en sus familias. Como ellos dicen “Ninguna familia es perfecta porque nadie es perfecto. Sin embargo, si reconocemos que necesitamos la misericordia de Dios y su ayuda para mejorar nuestras relaciones, podemos superar los desafíos y dificultades que enfrentamos en la cultura secular de hoy. Tener presente el honrar a la familia, independientemente de su tamaño o el tamaño de sus problemas. Es un don de Dios por el cual agradecer”.

FAMILIA ROHL: CONFIANZA, CUIDADO, EMPATÍA

Lynda Ocanto-Rohl, y su hijo Carlos Alfonso Rohl (Foncho) han vivido en Doral durante los últimos 13 años. Su familia consta de dos miembros, pero como dice Lynda “no siempre fue así… cuando llegamos a vivir a este país, teníamos un integrante más, mi esposo Carlos Alfredo Rohl que ya no está con nosotros porque hace dos años que se mudó y ahora su dirección es en el cielo”. Lynda y Carlos llegaron de Venezuela en busca de un futuro mejor para ellos y su hijo de 5 años. Viniendo de una familia grande, la decisión de trasladarse a un país sin parientes no fue fácil, pero fue hecha con una “sonrisa e

Después de la muerte de Carlos, Foncho continuó la labor de ayuda con el apoyo de un grupo del Christopher Columbus High School donde estudiaba, y ahora, incluso con la apretada agenda de ser un estudiante de primer año de psicología en la Universidad de Miami, y en paralelo estudios menores en pre-medicina, él sigue apoyando las personas sin hogar. Este año su meta es reunir mochilas para convertirlas en “Kits de Cuidado”, como él lo llama, una forma sencilla de proporcionar ayuda práctica a personas sin hogar (artículos de aseo, comida y ropa). A pesar de todo lo vivido, Lynda y Foncho han encontrado el verdadero significado de lo que es una gran familia, como la definen: “personas que siempre están ahí no importa la situación y sin esperar nada a cambio. Capaces de poner su amor por el otro sobre el suyo”. La pérdida de un miembro de la familia tan de repente es difícil y desafiante, pero a pesar de los momentos difíciles, ellos siempre tratan de poner los deseos de otros antes que los suyos, pues como dicen “Sabemos que tenemos suerte por todo lo que tenemos y agradecemos eso, por lo que ayudamos cada vez que podemos a los más necesitados, ya que siempre hay alguien que tiene menos que uno”. Durante este Día de Acción de Gracias, Lynda y Foncho planean disfrutar cada minuto juntos, teniendo en mente lo que Foncho aconseja a las familias de Doral: “La familia es algo que a veces tomamos por hecho, que nos lo merecemos y no le hacemos caso hasta que es muy tarde para volver atrás y la verdad tenemos que agradecerla aunque sea imperfecta. Es importante hablarse con la verdad, respetarse y demostrarse el amor que se tienen todos los días, por qué nunca sabemos cuándo va ser el último abrazo”.

RABINO AVRAHAM Y ZELDA BRASHEVITZKY: GRATITUD, APRECIO Y GENEROSIDAD

Rabino Avraham y Zelda Brashevitzky son originarios de Brooklyn NY. Se mudaron a Doral hace 10 años para establecer el centro judío Chabad, el cual es “una extensión de la base de la Comunidad Judía, orientada a reunir a los Judíos de la zona y llevar a todos el mensaje fundamental del judaísmo: un mundo mejor y buenos valores”. Comenzaron desde su propia casa y ahora tienen su propia sinagoga en la NW 58St. Además de trabajar con los residentes locales judíos y la comunidad empresarial, el rabino Brashevitzky ha dedicado su tiempo a servir la comunidad, la cual considera como su propia familia, a través del su participación voluntaria en los consejos consultivos de la ciudad y del Departamento de Policía. Los Brashevitzky tienen 10 hijos, comenzando con el mayor de 18 años que estudia en Israel, hasta el más pequeño de tan sólo 5 meses de edad. Para ellos la

familia es un tesoro preciado y la consideran y aman como su vida. Hace años, ellos tuvieron una experiencia personal que les hizo establecer una nueva forma de celebrar acción de gracias: “Cuando nos mudamos a Doral, era poco antes de la Pascua, en abril o mayo y esperábamos muchos invitados. Zeldie fue a comprar una olla grande para preparar sopa. Las tiendas no tenían ninguna del tamaño que buscaba y al preguntar a uno de los gerentes le dijeron que sólo vendían ollas grandes durante la “temporada de cocina”, es decir, en acción de gracias...” “Cuando Zeldie me contó esto tuve una epifanía: En nuestra casa (al igual que en todos los hogares judíos) cada semana es “temporada de cocina”. Nos sentamos cada viernes por la noche para celebrar el Shabat (sábado) con una comida especial. Así se trate una semana buena o no, nos sentamos juntos en familia con amigos e invitados. Fue entonces que se me ocurrió poner en práctica la siguiente idea: Hacer de cada viernes una acción de gracias en la que cada miembro diría algo por lo que están agradecidos esa semana, y eso hicimos ese día”.

Desde entonces, expresan su gratitud, compartiendo y apreciando todo lo que tienen...”¿Por qué esperar una vez al año para agradecer? Tantas cosas buenas suceden cada semana, ¡debemos dar gracias y mostrar aprecio más a menudo! “, comentan los Brashevitzky. Ellos consideran que “el día de Acción de Gracias es una gran festividad, que debe celebrarse con la familia y dejando de lado las cosas materiales”. Ellos aconsejan que “debemos utilizarlo para dar gracias a Dios por todo lo bueno que tenemos, y aprovechar, para nuestro beneficio (al menos en pequeña medida) practicar el agradecimiento con más frecuencia que solo una vez al año”. Agradeciendo en especial por “tener una familia, con quien contar, con quien compartir nuestro tiempo, nuestras quejas y tener un hombro en el cual llorar cuando se necesite”. n order to support the schools of Doral both financially and academically, Doral Family Journal is developing an initiative together with the Business 2 Action organization, which is expected to create cooperation relationships with businesses to collect funds for maintaining the correct operation of our educational facilities. Through the communicational platform of the Doral Family Journal and its clients data base, our editor in chief Ettore Sabatella has become the main promoter of this project known as “Business for Education”, which favors Doral’s education. This project provides three alternatives for businesses to cooperate with the schools of Doral: Gift, Share and Connect. Elizabeth Nuñez from Business 2 Action is another of the individuals who leads this great educational project. She points out that although initially, they counted with the support of the Doral Family Journal, the idea is that every business in Doral joins the project, in order to create a magnificent educational community. Regarding the ways in which businesses may support schools, the “Gift” alternative refers to the financial help that may be offered to schools through activities such as the aluminum-recycling project, supported by Covanta Corporation. Covanta is the solid waste processing facility located in Doral, responsible for processing and transforming into energy all the garbage generated in the Miami-Dade County. This facility receives 1.2 million tons of garbage every year, which is treated through a combustion process that reduces it by 90% and converts it into ashes. Covanta not only gets rid of the garbage generated by Miami-Dade county residents, it also transforms it into energy, as they recycle waste and transform it into the electric power needed to feed its operations as well as 45 thousand homes. Covanta also collects 20 thousand tons of aluminum and steel. The “Share” option refers to an academic kind of support where productive businesses and companies of Doral open their doors to students allowing them to visit their facilities. These educational

tours will begin from January 2016 and the first visits are expected to be among three of Doral’s largest businesses which have provided great support to this program: Covanta, Miami Herald and Café Domino. Even though Doral Family Journal and Business 2 Action were the ones who created this initiative, the goal is to encourage the entire Doral community to participate in this project, just like the city of Doral has done through its Deputy Mayor Christi Fraga, who offered to donate some computers that are not been used at the Mayor’s Office.

RECYCLING FOR THE SCHOOLS

One of the most important aspects of this great educational initiative is the aluminum-recycling project, intended to obtain financial resources to improve the schools of Doral. This idea had been conceived a long time ago by Ettore Sabatella and has now been picked-up again with the support of

the Covanta corporation. The plan is to launch the aluminum-recycling project as a pilot in two of Doral’s schools, John I. Smith and Dr. Rolando Espinosa, where the collection bins for the aluminum cans will be placed. The most interesting part of this pilot project is that apart from the collection of cans discarded by these schools, several businesses already offered their transportation means to collect the cans from the remaining schools of Doral and deliver them to the corresponding container site. Covanta Corporation will be in charge of the logistics of collecting and weighing the aluminum cans, as informed by its general manager William Meredith, who claimed to be committed to carrying out this process. Once the aluminum is exchanged

for money, the funds will be delivered to the Parks and Police 4 Kids foundation, which will be responsible of distributing said funds evenly among Doral’s schools. The idea is clear, to deliver the cans directly to the aluminum collection plant and submit the funds directly to the Parks and Police 4 Kids to ensure transparency while reaching the ultimate goal: benefit the schools and students of Doral.

on el objetivo de apoyar a las escuelas de Doral financiera y académicamente, Doral Family Journal está desarrollando una iniciativa en conjunto con la organización Business 2 Action, a través de la cual se espera crear relaciones de cooperación con los comercios de la ciudad para recaudar fondos destinados a mantener el funcionamiento de nuestras unidades educativas. Este proyecto en pro de la educación de Doral, del cual nuestro editor Ettore Sabatella ha sido el principal promotor gracias a la plataforma comunicacional y de clientes de Doral Family Journal, ha sido denominado “Business for Education”, el cual busca alternativas para que los comercios puedan integrarse a las escuelas de Doral y apoyarlas de tres maneras: Gift (dar), Share (compartir) y Connect (involucrarse).

Elizabeth Núñez de la corporación Business 2 Action es otra de las personas que lideriza este gran proyecto educativo y señaló que, inicialmente, se cuenta con el apoyo de los clientes de Doral Family Journal, pero la idea es que se vayan sumando todos los negocios de Doral, creando una gran comunidad educativa. En cuanto a las formas en que los negocios

pueden apoyar a las escuelas, la alternativa “Gift” implica las ayudas económicas que se puedan ofrecer a los colegios a través de actividades como el proyecto de reciclaje de aluminio, para el cual se cuenta con el apoyo de la empresa Covanta. Covanta es la planta de procesamiento de desechos sólidos ubicada en Doral que se encarga de procesar toda la basura generada en el condado de Miami-Dade y convertirla en energía. Esta planta recibe 1.2 millones de toneladas de basura al año la cual es tratada por un proceso de combustión que logra reducirla en un 90 por ciento y convertirla en ceniza. Covanta no sólo se deshace de la basura generada por los residentes de Miami-Dade, sino que además la convierte en energía, pues reciclan los desechos y los transforman en electricidad para sus operaciones y para 45 mil hogares más. Covanta también recolecta al año 20 mil toneladas de aluminio y acero. La opción “Share” implica una modalidad de apoyo académico en la que los negocios y empresas productivas de Doral puedan abrir sus puertas para que los alumnos de la ciudad hagan recorridos por los mismos. Se trata de tours educativos que se iniciaran en el mes de enero del 2016 y las primeras visitas están planteadas en tres grandes empresas de Doral que han prestado todo su apoyo: Covanta, Miami Herald y Café Domino. La idea es que el resto de los negocios de Doral se vayan entusiasmando a abrirle sus puertas a los estudiantes, lo que no sólo serviría para inculcar

en los niños conocimientos nuevos y productivos, sino también para promocionar a estas empresas e integrarlas a la comunidad educativa. “Connect” abarca todos los encuentros y eventos en los que los dueños de negocios puedan intercambiar ideas con los representantes de las asociaciones de padres y representantes (PTSA, por sus siglas en inglés), directores, maestros y comunidad en general con la idea de conformar una mejor y más sólida comunidad educativa. La idea es realizar de forma periódica este tipo de reuniones que también pueden incluir actividades deportivas y culturales. Estos eventos de intercambio se iniciaron con el Desayuno de Negocios realizado el pasado 22 de octubre del 2015 en el Hotel InterContinental de Doral, coincidiendo con el quinto aniversario de la edición impresa de Doral Family Journal y el cual contó con la masiva participación de miembros de negocios, autoridades escolares y municipales, representantes comunitarios e igualmente estuvieron presentes autoridades locales como el alcalde Luigi Boria, la vice alcaldesa Christi Fraga, la concejal Sandra Ruíz y el alcalde la ciudad de Medley, Roberto Martell. Una segunda actividad se llevó a cabo el pasado 12 de noviembre del 2015 en el restaurante Carolina Ale House, donde se logró reunir en un mismo evento a los representantes y miembros de Doral Chamber of Commerce y Doral Business Council, las cuales compartieron con representantes escolares de Doral, en una noche caracterizada por la cordialidad y el interés en el desarrollo educativo de nuestra municipalidad. Este proyecto fue presentado al superintendente de escuelas públicas del condado de MiamiDade, Alberto Carvalho, quien manifestó un gran entusiasmo por el mismo y señaló estar de acuerdo con todas estas acciones en pro de la educación de los niños y jóvenes de la ciudad de Doral. Una parte importante de estas iniciativas es ayudar a los padres, especialmente a quienes tienen

www.doralfamiyjournal.com poco tiempo viviendo en nuestra ciudad, a conocer cómo funciona el sistema escolar y entusiasmarlos a que se involucren y participen activamente para construir una red de apoyo educativo que contribuya a mantener la excelencia académica en Doral. Este proyecto educativo beneficiará a los todos los alumnos desde Primaria hasta la escuela secundaria y en él pueden participar las escuelas públicas y charters de la ciudad de Doral, pues la idea es atender y estimular a quienes serán los líderes del futuro, por lo que también se aspira a crear un sistema de premiación. Este sistema de premiación, que ya había sido implementado por Doral Family Journal años atrás, ha sido retomado con la idea de premiar a los niños que se destaquen académicamente y a los miembros comunitarios y negocios de Doral que hayan participado activamente en el apoyo al mejor funcionamiento de las escuelas. Para la realización de este gran proyecto Doral Family Journal también cuenta con el apoyo de dos grandes empresas como los son el Hotel InterContinental y el International Mall, dos pilares fundamentales del desarrollo económico de la ciudad de Doral y los cuales han puesto todo su empeño en esta gran iniciativa educativa. Si bien ésta es una iniciativa de Doral Family Journal y Business 2 Action, la idea es que toda la comunidad de Doral se vaya sumando, como ya lo ha hecho la ciudad de Doral, a través de la actual vice alcaldesa Christi Fraga, quien ofreció la donación de algunas computadoras que ya no están en uso en la alcaldía. Uno de aspectos más importantes de esta gran iniciativa educativa es el proyecto de reciclaje de aluminio, pues el mismo pretende conseguir recursos económicos para el mejor funcionamiento de las escuelas de Doral. Esta idea había sido concebida tiempo atrás por Ettore Sabatella y ahora se ha retomado contando con el apoyo de la empresa Covanta. Se aspira que este proyecto de reciclaje de aluminio arranque de forma piloto en dos escuelas de Doral, John I. Smith y Dr. Rolando Espinosa, en las cuales se colocaran dos colectores de latas de aluminio. Lo más interesante es que no sólo re recogerán las latas que se desechen en estas escuelas, si no que varios comercios locales ya han puesto a la orden sus sistemas de transporte para buscar las latas en las otros colegios de Doral y transportarlas hasta estos contenedores. La logística para la recogida y pesado de las latas de aluminio estará a cargo de la empresa Covanta, la cual, a través de su gerente general William Meredith, se comprometió a realizar este proceso. Una vez que el aluminio sea intercambiado por dinero, estos fondos serán entregados a la fundación Parks and Police 4 Kids, quien será la encargada de distribuirlo equitativamente entre las escuelas de Doral. Como es evidente, la idea es que los fondos recaudados lleguen directamente de la planta recolectora de aluminio y sin intermediarios a Parks and Police 4 Kids para que sean administrados con transparencia y logren el objetivo final de este proyecto: beneficiar a las escuelas y estudiantes de Doral.

he Comprehensive Master Plan (CMP), the document that sets the pace for the growth and development of the City of Doral is currently undergoing a review. It is a lengthy process that covers the different elements that define the structure of the city: green initiatives; future land use; transportation; housing; infrastructure; conservation; parks and recreation; education facilities; intergovernmental coordination and capital improvements. Doral Family Journal met with Planning and Zoning Director Julian Perez, who gave a thorough explanation of the process that is followed when updating any components of the plan for the City, the importance of public involvement in that process and what are the changes that are shaping the future way to live, work, learn and play in the City of Doral.

UNDERSTANDING THE PLAN

“The comprehensive plan is a policy document” said Perez, “created through what we understand in our business as the data inventory analysis. We evaluate each of the elements and generate the technical information we need to develop the policy component.” The CMP is a guiding document where are described goals, objectives and policies. ”It is the document that we use in order to make sure that the developments that are coming to our community are consistent first with the land use and then with the zoning map.” Those are the maps that Planning and Zoning uses on a day to day basis to do all their work. The future land use map is the most important one, is the policy map based on all the information described in the CMP and the input provided by residents and business owners.

COLLECTING INPUT FROM THE RESIDENTS

The current review of the CMP covers the following elements: Green (environment and sustainability);

Future land use; Transportation; Housing; Infrastructure and Parks and Recreation. Perez explained that public participation on this process and any other changes in legislation can be done two ways. One of them is through attending the workshops held by his Department. “And the second way that we take input is by the residents submitting to us emails, letters or coming and meeting with me personally, which I encourage them to do. Those are the ways how we incorporate or analyze the input that is provided.” The current review of the CMP started in February 2015 and there have been several public workshops for the residents to give their opinions and observations on the different components.

We can’t deprive anybody from building a project that has already been approved. Property rights are protected by many laws, specifically in Florida.”

“Everything is about education.” said Perez. His department is constantly organizing workshops and meetings to keep the public informed about any changes that can affect them. Recently they had a presentation to explain residents about the re-designation of the Doral Legacy Park as a Green Reuse area, in order to be able to be considered within the Brownfields Redevelopment program. The resolution passed on First Reading during the November Zoning Meeting and will go for Second Reading in December. There will also be a presentation about Special Taxing Districts on December 9th, to explain the County proposal to modify the program. Educating the public “is one of the biggest challenges I have as a director” said Perez. “To me it is the most important thing.” “What I can tell the community is that if you ever have a question or concern the first place to come and see is City Hall. From the resident’s perspective, they need to come, meet with us and have an open mind. What we are telling them is very different of what they were used to.” “Something we need to convey to everyone is that what we do here is based on a process, that process is based on Florida Statutes” concluded Perez. The comprehensive plan and the land development code have gone through all those legal steps, through public hearings where everybody is given an opportunity to provide their input, and then at the end of the day the Council makes a decision. All truly concerned citizens need to take the time and make the effort to participate on workshops, meetings and hearings. Being educated and informed; voicing their opinions timely and respectfully, through effective channels, will certainly be the best way to ensure that the real vision of the residents is reflected in all the plans and the future landscape of the city.

Crecimiento de Doral es parte del Plan Maestro

l Plan Maestro (CMP por sus siglas en Ingles), es el documento que marca la pauta para el crecimiento y desarrollo de la Ciudad de Doral. Actualmente está en proceso de revisión, una tarea larga que cubre los diferentes aspectos que definen la estructura de la ciudad: iniciativas ecológicas, uso del terreno, transporte, residencias, conservación, parques y recreación, facilidades educativas, coordinación intergubernamental y mejoras de infraestructura. Doral Family Journal se reunió con el Director de Planificación y Zonificación, Sr. Julián Pérez, quien explicó ampliamente el proceso necesario para actualizar todos los componentes del plan estratégico de la Ciudad, la importancia de la participación ciudadana y cuáles son los cambios que depara el futuro para la Ciudad de Doral.

COMPRENDIENDO EL PLAN

“El Plan Maestro es un documento normativo” dijo Pérez, “creado en base al análisis de la información recogida del público. Evaluamos cada uno de los elementos y generamos la información técnica necesaria para desarrollar las políticas y normas correspondientes.” En el CMP se establecen metas, objetivos y normas. “Es el documento que utilizamos para asegurar que los desarrollos en nuestra comunidad son consistentes con las normas de uso del terreno y con el mapa de zonificación. Tanto el mapa de Planificación como el de Zonificación los utilizamos diariamente en nuestro trabajo.” El mapa de uso futuro del terreno es el más importante. Es un mapa que se basa en toda la información descrita en el CMP y en los aportes de residentes y empresarios de la ciudad.

TOMANDO EN CUENTA LA OPINIÓN DE LOS RESIDENTES

La revisión actual del CMP cubre los elementos

siguientes: ambiente y sustentabilidad; uso del terreno, transporte; infraestructura habitacional; infraestructura general y Parques y Recreación. Pérez explica que la participación del público en este proceso puede hacerse de dos maneras. Una es asistiendo a los talleres informativos organizados por su departamento, “y la otra es enviando cartas, correos electrónicos o asistiendo a reuniones particulares con nosotros. Esas son las maneras que nos permiten incorporar y analizar las opiniones que nos hacen llegar.” La revisión actual del CMP comenzó en Febrero 2015. Se han realizado varios talleres informativos con los residentes para recoger opiniones y observaciones sobre los diferentes componentes. El mas reciente fue en Octubre.

LOS DESARROLLOS ACTUALES COINCIDEN CON EL PLAN

Todo desarrollo que se realiza en Doral debe seguir las normas establecidas en el CMP. Muchos de ellos fueron aprobados mucho tiempo atrás, bajo las normas del CMP vigente en esa época o incluso bajo la norma del Condado, antes de la incorporación de Doral como municipalidad. High parking, mixed use, great density and so forth, because you will have the transportation available right there.” “What you are seeing on the North West side is more traditional, Euclidean zoning: Residential here, commercial here, industrial there.” The rest of the city however, is going to correspond with the mixed used vision.

comercial e industrial bien delimitadas, el resto de la ciudad corresponderá a una visión de uso mixto.”

RESIDENTES Y EMPRESARIOS EDUCADOS HACEN LA DIFERENCIA

“Todo se basa en la educación” dijo Pérez. Su departamento constantemente organiza talleres y reuniones informativas para informar al público sobre los cambios que pueden afectarles. Recientemente presentaron a los residentes el proyecto de Re-designación del Doral Legacy Park como Área Verde en Rehabilitación, para poder aplicar al programa de desarrollo Brownfields. Esta resolución fue aprobada en la reunión de zonificación de Noviembre y será sometida a Segunda Discusión en Diciembre. Habrá también una presentación sobre los Distritos Especiales Tributarios, el día 9 de Diciembre, para explicar las modificaciones propuestas en el Condado para este programa. “Educar al público es uno de los retos más grandes que tengo como director” dice Pérez. “Para mi es la actividad más importante.” “Invito a la comunidad a acercarse en primer lugar a nuestras oficinas en el Ayuntamiento con todas sus dudas y preocupaciones. Allí estamos para ayudarles. Desde la perspectiva de los residentes, es importante que vengan con la mente abierta, porque es probable que lo que escuchan sea muy diferente a lo que estaban acostumbrados.” “Algo que queremos que todos sepan es que todo lo que aquí se realiza pasa por un proceso que está regulado por los Estatutos del Estado de Florida” concluyo Pérez. El CMP y el código de desarrollo de terrenos ha superado todos los pasos legales y las audiencias públicas, donde a todo el mundo se le brinda la oportunidad de poder aportar sus ideas antes que el Concejo tome una decisión. Los ciudadanos realmente interesados y comprometidos con el progreso de la ciudad deben tomarse el tiempo y hacer el esfuerzo de participar en estos talleres, reuniones y audiencias. Ser educados y estar informados; expresar sus opiniones oportunamente y con respeto, a través de canales verdaderamente efectivos. De esa manera podrán estar seguros que su visión será tomada en cuenta y reflejada en todos los planes presentes y futuros de la Ciudad.

Free College Planning Workshop Sponsored by The Art Shack Miami, Doral Family Journal and San Ignacio College By Grecia Romero

s a result of a joint effort between The Art Shack Miami, Doral Family Journal and San Ignacio College to support education, high school students and parents in Doral had the opportunity to participate in a free College Planning Workshop last November 5th at 7:00 pm. The workshop was first conducted by the Higher Education Expert and College Funding Specialist Peter Ratzan, followed by a presentation from Sandra Iza, owner of Huntington Tutoring in Doral. The purpose of the event was to provide valuable tools to families that allow them to take control of the college admission and funding process of their children. “We want you to know that getting into college is a real possibility for all families, in all income levels and with economic benefits. It is not true that only families in need can get grants and scholarships; that’s possible

for middle class families too. The secret is to know the process and start actions now”, said Mr. Ratzan. As a high level summary, during the presentation Mr. Ratzan stressed the importance of having “the right admission strategy” which means getting the right education and the scholarships and grants that each family needs by planning ahead understanding the

process: knowing the Expecting Family Contribution, appropriate Aid Eligibility Calculation, researching colleges as early as in 10th grade, making the contact with admission officers to get information, completing and submitting applications early or/ on time (college, financial aid, and independent scholarships applications), and always compare “offers” from colleges because it can be discussed for consideration/appeal for an opportunity for a better “deal”. Mr. Ratzan also pointed out that high school students must be aware of the importance of taking the right classes (rigor and good grades), taking and prepping for the right admissions tests, and paying attention to their interests and talents so it can be used on their applications. n un esfuerzo conjunto entre The Art Shack Miami, Doral Family Journal y San Ignacio College en apoyar la educación, estudiantes de la escuela secundaria junto a sus padres tuvieron la oportunidad de participar en un Taller Gratuito sobre Planificación Universitaria el pasado 5 de noviembre a las 7:00pm. El taller fue conducido por el Experto en Educación Superior y Especialista en Financiación Universitaria, Sr. Peter Ratzan, seguido por una presentación a cargo de la propietaria de Huntington Tutoring en Doral, Sra. Sandra Iza. El propósito del evento fue proporcionar a las familias, herramientas útiles que les permitan tomar el control de la admisión y proceso de financiamiento de sus hijos en la universidad. “Ingresar a la universidad es una posibilidad real para todas las familias, en todos los niveles de

ingreso y obteniendo beneficios económicos. No es cierto que sólo las familias necesitadas pueden obtener subvenciones y becas; eso es posible para las familias de clase media también. El secreto está en conocer el proceso e iniciar acciones tempranas”, indicó el Sr. Ratzan. Durante la Peter Ratzan presentación el Sr. Ratzan destacó la importancia de contar con “la estrategia correcta de admisión”, es decir, conocer cómo funcionan las becas y ayudas que cada familia necesita para planificar el proceso: conocer cuánto es el Aporte Familiar Esperado, saber realizar el Cálculo de Elegibilidad

de Ayuda, investigar las universidades desde que el estudiante está cursando décimo grado, contactar los oficiales de admisión y obtener información. Completar y enviar las aplicaciones universidad, ayuda financiera y becas independientes a tiempo, y comparar “ofertas” de las universidades, ya que pueden ser revisadas y negociadas. El Sr. Ratzan también enfatizó a los estudiantes la importancia de tomar clases de rigor, obtener buenas calificaciones, prepararse para los exámenes adecuados y atender a sus intereses y talentos que son utilizados en sus aplicaciones. Sandra Iza por su parte ofreció a los padres una visión general de las pruebas estandarizadas que los estudiantes tendrán que tomar para ser admitido en la mayoría de las universidades. Mostró la importancia de la preparación, entender cómo funcionan las pruebas y el tipo de preguntas que van a encontrar, “Un estudiante que se prepara va a obtener mejores resultados que uno que toma la prueba sin saber qué esperar”, afirmó la Sra. The Federal Aviation Administration Conducted A Seminar To Inform The Public of Doral on Drone Safety By: Patricia Segovia

embers of the Federal Aviation Administration along with representatives of the Doral Police department gathered at the Doral Government Center on the morning of November 16th to educate the public on Drone Safety. The seminar lasted a total of one hour and half an hour of Q&A session, in which Doral residents were able to ask the experts all their questions on the subject. The public was constituted by a majority of civilians, most of them either commercial or recreational drone users. The rest of the crowd included members of the Doral police department, all wearing their uniforms and badges. Mike Wilson, the FAA’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems Program Manager, gave the presentation. He focused on the proper use of unmanned aircrafts and the importance of the security of the national airspace in the United States of America. “Our number one mission is the efficient handling of the national airspace in regards to safety,” said Mr. Wilson. With Christmas around the corner, large corporations such as Walmart and Amazon will be shipping thousands of drones all around the country. Therefore, new consumers will be handling these unique aircrafts without any knowledge of the National Airspace System, which has made the FAA more concerned with educating the public on drone safety.

Mr. Wilson went on to explain the differences between three different groups that handle unmanned aircraft; each with their own particular interests. These are the hobbyists and recreational users, the public government agencies and the entrepreneurs and commercial or civil operators as defined by the FAA. Francisco Morel, a professional photographer and a resident of Doral, falls in the category of commercial users; those who want to make money from operating a drone. “I would like to extend my business by doing aerial photography through the use of a drone and

Mike Wilson, the FAA’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems Program Manager that’s why I’m here,” said Mr. Morel. He also mentioned that as a new citizen of Doral, he is unfamiliar with the regulations of the city and wants to avoid any trouble with his recently purchased unmanned aircraft. Commercial users operate the drones a lot more frequently than recreational users and in more urban spaces. All the news media networks and entertainment channels want to be where all the action is taking place and thus the use of drones is practical, yet this increases the likelihood of a risky situation. On the other hand, public operators are generally located in more rural areas such as military restricted zones. The FAA integrates the drone operators’ intentions with the National Airspace System to establish the range of operation within safety limits. A measure towards this goal was the establishment of test sites in six states throughout the country (North Dakota, Nevada, Texas, Virginia, NY and Alaska) where public and commercial agencies may attend to test their drones. They also set centers of excellence to help operators obtain the knowledge required to adequately operate this technology. In regards to Law Enforcement Agency guidance, South FL has acted as a model for other states throughout the country. “We are the first to do a police department law enforcement agency certificate of authorization to fly drones down here and its been the piece that made the rest of the country work” said Mr. Wilson. The FAA is currently shaping their policy and adding more restrictions. There are a variety of different features in the regulations for each type of drone operator. Some of these include flying below 400ft.,

avoiding interference with manned aircrafts and avoid flying close to people or stadiums for hobbyists. Public and civil operators need to obtain FAA authorization in order to fly a drone. These measures come after numerous incidents in the past involving unmanned aircrafts, such as one hitting a person or another flying too close to a helicopter, making it impossible for the pilot to do his job. As long as the issue involves national airspace, the FAA will continue to get involved. Mr. Wilson concluded the presentation by showing a picture of Albert Einstein and explaining how his Theory of Relativity is easy compared to unmanned aircraft systems. The public could relate to that after listening to his lecture on all the regulations that encompass the use of drones. “The presentation was informative to the community, to law enforcement and it also gave our presenters an idea of what the public is seeking as well,” said officer Luis Martínez. He also explained how the only issue people seemed to have had was lack of information. Those that own drones are eager to use them correctly and they attended the seminar to learn about what they can do with them and how they can do it on a legal platform.

Peter Acevedo, FAA’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems Program Manager, concluded the seminar by saying how the only and most important way to maintain drone safety is by outreaching education. The way the FAA is educating the public is by posting all their regulations in a clear format on their website (FAA.gov/UAS), working together with major hobby shops to teach them how to educate their public, carrying out informative seminars and now through the launch of a new app called B4U Fly. “We are not trying to stop you from operating your drones. We want you to fly, but safely,” said Mr. Acevedo.

Immigrants and the “Holiday Blues”: Overcoming homesickness

oliday Season in the US begins with Thanksgiving Day, the last Thursday of November. It is the most wonderful time of the year, where family values and appreciation for all blessings received are the highlights of the celebrations. However, for those who have recently immigrated to the US, and are just beginning to get used to the traditions of this country, the holiday season can be a period of sadness and homesickness, a season for longing for their loved ones and their familiar surroundings. Dr. Mariela Guillen, clinical psychologist, defines nostalgia as “a psychological phenomenon in which a mental state of reminiscence is experienced, and the person longs and wants to return to a place or event in the past.” A person can feel nostalgia for a bygone era, for a loved one who passed away or as a result of decisions that completely transformed his or her lifestyle, such as migrating to a new country. Nostalgia “is a human experience that we will always live,” says Guillen, “Therefore we must be aware that it is something natural to experience”.

IS IT NOSTALGIA, ‘SEASONAL AFFECTIVE SYNDROME’ OR DEPRESSION?

Drastic changes in lifestyle consequence of a migration process, in addition to the natural nostalgia for places, people and familiar flavors, can cause a series of physical and mental symptoms that is important to differentiate and control, to take appropriate measures and prevent them from escalating into a severe depression, especially during holiday season. Dr. Guillen explains, “It was once thought that nostalgia, as a form of melancholy, could become depression over time. Today it is considered a natural, common and even positive phenomenon that brings adaptive functions for the person experiencing it’. Feeling sad is a natural process, especially in when experiencing change. However, when that feeling becomes permanent and begins to affect performance in everyday activities, people should pay attention and seek help to overcome it. The National Institute of Mental Health reports that 6% of the US population is affected during holiday season by “Seasonal Affective Syndrome” (SAD), and 14% suffer from a milder form of emotional disorder caused by the changing of weather over the seasons, called “winter blues”, that has similar symptoms and affects especially those who live in cold climates. Seasonal Affective Syndrome, explains the Mayo Clinic,

is a type of depression related to the changing seasons. Sufferers experience, about the same time each year, symptoms such as: • Irritability • Tiredness or low energy • Problems getting along with other people • Hypersensitivity to rejection • Oversleeping • Appetite changes, especially a craving for foods high in carbohydrates • Weight gain On the other hand, a depressed a person may be: • Feeling sadness most of the day, nearly every day. • Feeling hopeless or worthless. • Having low energy. • Losing interest in activities he or she once enjoyed. • Having problems with sleeping. • Experiencing changes in your appetite or weight. • Feeling sluggish or agitated. • Having difficulty concentrating. • Having frequent thoughts of death or suicide. Those who have moved to another city or recently, and are still going through a process of adaptation, should be alert to detect if they or some of their family members, even children, have any of these symptoms or if they worsen during the holidays. Both SAD and depression are clinical conditions that require the intervention of a doctor or therapist. Taking timely action will help to resolve the situation and regain physical and emotional health in order to adapt to the challenges of the new environment.

OVERCOMING THE HOLIDAY BLUES AND ENJOYING NEW TRADITIONS

Although some people feel a sense of loss when they get nostalgic, according to some studies, “the experience itself can make them more optimistic about the future,” explained Dr. Guillen. “Nostalgia is universal,” says Dr. Guillen, noting that immigrants can experience it more often, to the extent that it makes more difficult for them to adapt to their new geographic location, values, traditions, customs and language, while if they find their new surroundings familiar, it gives them a sense of security and continuity, that helps them create new and positive experiences. To those who might be facing homesickness during this holiday season, Guillen recommends them to seek information and become educated about the traditions and customs of their new environment, and to integrate their own customs to the celebrations. Also, to speed up on the Dra. Mariela Guillen acculturation process, it is recommended that immigrants, as well as learning about the customs, food and traditions, take the initiative to learn the language, laws, codes and rules to be able to interact effectively with others. “Focusing on the positive aspects of the past and present, will help us take a more proactive perspective towards change in the future” concluded Dr. Guillen.

a época de las Fiestas de Fin de Año comienza en los EEUU con el Día de Acción de Gracias, el último jueves de Noviembre. Es una época hermosa, donde se resaltan los valores de unión familiar y la importancia de agradecer lo que hemos obtenido en el año que termina. Sin embargo, para quienes han emigrado recientemente y apenas empiezan a acostumbrarse a las tradiciones de este país, la época festiva puede significar un periodo de tristeza y nostalgia por la lejanía de sus familias y de sus entornos conocidos. La Dra. Mariela Guillén, Psicólogo clínico, define la nostalgia como “un fenómeno psicológico en el que se experimenta un estado mental de reminiscencia, se añora y se desea volver a un lugar o evento del pasado”. Se puede sentir nostalgia por una época pasada, por un ser querido que se ha ido o a consecuencia de decisiones que transforman por completo el estilo de vida de la persona, como puede ser emigrar a un nuevo país. La nostalgia “es una experiencia humana que siempre vamos a vivir” afirma Guillén, “debemos estar conscientes entonces de que es natural experimentarla”.

¿NOSTALGIA, ‘SÍNDROME AFECTIVO ESTACIONAL’ O DEPRESIÓN?

Los cambios drásticos en el estilo de vida que conlleva un proceso migratorio, además de la natural nostalgia por los lugares, personas y sabores conocidos, pueden ocasionar sobre todo en la época festiva una serie de síntomas físicos y mentales que es importante saber diferenciar y controlar, para tomar medidas oportunas y evitar que puedan degenerar en una depresión severa. La Dra. Guillen explica que “antiguamente se pensaba que la nostalgia, como una forma de la melancolía, podía convertirse en depresión. Hoy en día es considerada un fenómeno natural, común e incluso positivo, que acarrea funciones adaptativas para la persona que la experimenta.” Sentir tristeza es un proceso natural, sobre todo en una circunstancia de cambio, sin embargo cuando esa sensación se vuelve permanente y comienza a afectar el desempeño en las actividades diarias hay que prestar atención y buscar ayuda para superarlo. EI Instituto Nacional de Salud Mental informa que 6% de la población estadounidense es afectada en la época festiva por el “Síndrome Afectivo Estacional” (SAD por sus siglas en ingles) y un 14% sufre de una forma más leve de trastorno emocional causado por el cambio de las estaciones llamado “Tristeza de Invierno”, con síntomas similares, que afecta sobre todo a quienes residen en

Quienes lo padecen manifiestan alrededor de la misma época cada año síntomas tales como: • Irritabilidad. • Bajos niveles de energía. • Hipersensibilidad al rechazo. • Dificultad para las relaciones interpersonales. • Exceso de cansancio y sueño pesado. • Cambios en el apetito, especialmente deseo de consumir carbohidratos. • Aumento de peso. La depresión por su parte se manifiesta por: • Sensación de tristeza constante y diaria. • Irritabilidad o agresividad excesiva. • Perdida de autovaloración y autoestima. • Bajos niveles de energía. • Perdida de interés en actividades que antes se disfrutaban. • Insomnio. • Cambios en el peso o el apetito. • Sedentarismo extremo o agitación. • Dificultad de concentración. • Frecuentes pensamientos suicidas. Quienes han cambiado de país o ciudad recientemente y aún están pasando por un proceso de adaptación deben estar alerta para detectar si ellos o algunos de los familiares que les acompañan, incluso los niños, presentan cualquiera de estos síntomas o si estos se agravan durante la época festiva. Tanto el SAD como la depresión son condiciones clínicas que requieren la intervención de un médico o terapeuta. Tomar acciones oportunamente les ayudará a superar la situación y recuperar la salud física y emocional para poder adaptarse a los retos de su nuevo entorno.

SUPERAR LA NOSTALGIA PARA DISFRUTAR NUEVAS COSTUMBRES

“Aunque algunas personas sientan una sensación de pérdida cuando se ponen nostálgicas, de acuerdo a algunos estudios la experiencia en sí misma puede hacernos más optimistas frente al futuro,” explica la Dra. Guillén. “La nostalgia es universal” dice la Dra. Guillen, acotando que los inmigrantes pueden experimentarla más frecuentemente en la medida que les sea más difícil adaptarse a su nueva ubicación geográfica, por las diferencias en valores, tradiciones, costumbres o idioma, mientras que “si algo nuevo nos parece familiar, eso nos da un sentido de seguridad y continuidad que hace que experiencias pasadas se extrañen menos.” Recomienda Guillén que para manejar la nostalgia en la época de las fiestas de fin de año, puede ser útil para los inmigrantes buscar información y educarse sobre las tradiciones y costumbres de su nuevo entorno, e integrar las costumbres propias a la celebración, creando nuevas y positivas experiencias. Asimismo, para acelerar la adaptación, se recomienda que los inmigrantes, además de aprender sobre las costumbres, comidas y tradiciones, tomen la iniciativa de aprender el idioma, leyes, códigos y reglas para poder interactuar de manera efectiva con otras personas. “Enfocarnos en los aspectos positivos del pasado y del presente nos ayudará a tener una perspectiva más proactiva frente al cambio.”

JUSTICE FOR A FALLEN VETERAN By Jose “Pepe” Diaz

n August 25 at around 9:20 p.m. , a senseless act of violence ended the life of a South Florida family man and veteran – and changed his family’s life forever. Keith Cox, a military veteran and security guard for 50 State Security, was working his post at the Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza Metrorail Station. An altercation erupted and Keith was shot. He died that night after being transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital. His killer is still at large. Keith was a patriotic American who served his country with pride. He was also a hard worker, trusted employee, and a great provider and role model to his family and kids. His family was everything to him, and he was very much involved in his children’s lives – taking them on outings, celebrating birthdays and sharing laughs and lessons. Keith also had passion for barbequing. He loved sharing his barbeque tips and creations with friends and co-workers, and many can still picture him at the grill – smiling, laughing and dispensing free cooking advice. Keith served honorably in the United States Air Force

reinta años después de que Michael J. Fox, interpretando al personaje de Marty McFly en la mítica película de ciencia ficción “Volver al Futuro”, se desplazara en una patineta voladora, el mercado de las patinetas está siendo revolucionado por una patineta que, si bien no vuela, es bastante futurista porque funciona con energía eléctrica. La Hawkboard o Smart Balance Wheel, cuya marca más reconocida es Segway PT es, originalmente, un vehículo de transporte ligero giroscópico eléctrico de dos ruedas, con auto-equilibrio inventado por Dean Kamen y presentado en diciembre del 2001. Sin embargo, una nueva versión manos libres de esta patineta se ha empezado a comercializar en el 2015, teniendo un gran éxito en el mercado infantil y juvenil. Quizás podamos describirla como una especie de patineta eléctrica e inteligente que se maneja según los movimientos del pie y algunos modelos traen control remoto y hasta dispositivos Bluetooth. Si bien su precio, el cual oscila entre 300 y 1,000 dólares no sea la característica más atractiva de este producto, la sensación que ha causado en los últimos meses permite pronosticar que sea uno de regalos navideños más populares. El Segway PT original es producido por Segway Inc, una empresa de New Hampshire y su nombre se deriva de la palabra “segue”, que significa transición suave, mientras que PT es una abreviatura de transportador personal en inglés. Computadores simples, sensores y motores eléctricos en la base mantienen el dispositivo funcionado de manera rápida y tecnológica. Utiliza sensores giroscópicos y sensores de nivelación a base de un acelerómetro para detectar los cambios resultantes en su ángulo de paso y para mantener el equilibrio, que impulsa las ruedas hacia delante o hacia atrás, según sea necesario. En el proceso, el usuario establece y luego mantiene una velocidad. Funciona mucho mejor en zonas pavimentadas.

Hay que recordar que la versión original de estas patinetas lleva un manubrio y se utiliza con fines laborales, especialmente para el desplazamiento de agentes policiales en las ciudades, vigilantes de centros comerciales o empleados de algunos parques temáticos, por citar algunos ejemplos. Sin embargo, esta versión sin comando manual, se comercializa con fines de entretenimiento. Esta patineta eléctrica está diseñada para que los usuarios hagan menos esfuerzos y su experiencia de conducción sea más sencilla y divertida con un tiempo mínimo de aprendizaje. Aunque tiene neumáticos sólidos, no es 100 % resistente al agua, por lo que no es recomendable usarla para atravesar charcos. En cuanto a la seguridad que ofrece esta patineta, la mayoría de los modelos incluyen protección de la inclinación, protección del límite de velocidad y protección de la batería baja. Alcanza una velocidad entre 12 y 20 millas por hora y cubre una distancia por carga entre nueve y 12 millas. Las instrucciones para su uso son bastantes básicas, pues sólo indican que debe ajustarse la gravedad del cuerpo, mantener el equilibrio al igual que en una patineta tradicional y realizar los giros de forma lenta las primeras veces. Ante cualquier inconveniente, la recomendación lógica es saltar fuera de la patineta.

RIESGOS Y RECOMENDACIONES

Si bien la inquietud de muchos padres frente al “boom” comercial generado por estas patinetas sea la posibilidad de que su uso incremente el sedentarismo infantil, pues para emplearlas no se requiere ningún esfuerzo físico como en las patinetas tradicionales, los pediatras parecen estar más preocupados por el aumento de las caídas. Los pediatras Georges Saliba y Jorge A. De Diego coinciden en señalar que, si bien las caídas son algo muy común en el uso de las patinetas, estos modelos electrónicos incrementan el peligro pues el jovencito no emplea la fuerza de su cuerpo para controlar la patineta, lo que limita la autonomía que el niño tiene

sobre la misma. “Creo que con estas patinetas los muchachos están más propensos a caerse que con las patinetas tradicionales. Si bien aún no existen estadísticas registradas respecto al uso de este novedoso sistema de desplazamiento, considero que el riesgo es mayor porque se controla de forma electrónica y no con el propio cuerpo y fuerza de quien la está utilizando”, comenta el doctor Saliba. Para el doctor Saliba es vital que se tomen las mismas precauciones que cuando se monta en la patineta tradicional. “Me preocupa que, como esta patineta es más bien vista como un aparato electrónico, los muchachos se monten en ella a la ligera y sin protección. Eso es un error, es vital que usen casco, muñequeras, coderas y rodilleras para evitar lesiones”. El también pediatra Jorge A. De Diego coincide con su colega al señalar, “ciertamente, estas patinetas electrónicas podrían aumentar el sedentarismo, pues no implican el más mínimo esfuerzo físico, sin embargo, me parece que lo que es realmente preocupante sobre ellas es el peligro de caerse, pues los niños no tienen un total control sobre las mismas”. Comenta el doctor De Diego que en la patineta tradicional, el jovencito maneja los movimientos con su propia fuerza, sin embargo, en el modelo electrónico la patineta tiene más autonomía y como hay muchos modelos que incluso vienen con control remoto, es muy posible equivocarse al seleccionar la función que se desea. “Hay que estar muy alertas y prevenidos para evitar caídas en estas patinetas”. Resumiendo la opinión de los especialistas, podríamos indicar que la mayor preocupación en torno a estas patinetas es el riego de lesiones graves, debido al poco control humano sobre este dispositivo, sin embargo, la facilidad de desplazamiento que permite, aunado a sus características tecnológicas, la han convertido en un producto muy atractivo para los más jóvenes.

AARP Florida presentó Academia de Liderazgo Destino 2015 Bajo el lema: ¡All Hands On!, llegó la sexta edición de Destino 2015, la academia de liderazgo de AARP Florida, que se realizó el pasado 7 de noviembre en el Miami-Dade Collage. El objectivo de DESTINO 2015 es proporcionar una introducción a las herramientas prácticas, desarrollo de liderazgo y oportunidades de aprendizaje multidisciplinario para promover la participación de los miembros de la comunidad multi-cultural en áreas de impacto social e influencia de colaboración. Este año los oradores principales fueron Alberto Carvalho, Superintendente de las escuelas públicas de Miami-Dade y Chris Gardner, autor del best seller The Pursuit of Happyness. Durante todo el día se ofrecieron diferentes talleres con el enfoque en temas como el mercadeo por medio de las redes sociales, como construir comunidades, y otros más.
