TALK OF THE TOWN
Boat Tail represents the apex of the marque's coachbuilding capabilities
“C
oachbuild elevates our work as a House of Luxury into a new space; it is the haute couture of our industry. For the commissioning patron it offers the ultimate in individuality, selfexpression and Bespoke service. Far more than just a beautiful motor car, a coachbuilt creation becomes a legacy that embodies something extraordinarily personal and emotionally resonant for each client. For our designers, too, Coachbuild provides unparalleled creative freedom; opportunities to take design, materials, engineering and craftsmanship to the very highest levels. For Rolls-Royce as a marque, it is both a return to our roots and a contemporary revolution, in which we deliver the impossible in conventional automotive manufacturing into a stunning reality.” Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars “Every Rolls-Royce Coachbuild commission is, of course, incredibly special; but in this case, there was an additional depth of feeling. Creating a motor car in honour of a revered client’s father and family history is an extraordinary privilege; a responsibility that we took very much to heart. The commissioning patron’s deep-rooted connection to Boat Tail is an inspiration – the result far exceeds a means of conveyance to become, quite literally, a moving work of art.” Alex Innes, Head of Coachbuild Design, RollsRoyce Motor Cars Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is honoured to present the next chapter of its Boat Tail coachbuilt commission – one of just three that have been, and ever will be made. The essence of Rolls-Royce Coachbuild is that each commission tells a story entirely unique and personal to its owner, reflecting their own history, tastes and sensibilities. With this in mind, Boat Tail, revealed at Concorso d’Eleganza, Villa d’Este 2022, on the shores of Lake Como in northern Italy, is a masterwork of restraint, sophistication, elegance and attention to detail.
4
Boat Tail is entirely hand-built, with the body panels fashioned from vast, single sheets of aluminium to create the distinctive outline inspired by the racing yachts of the early 20th century. In every respect, this remarkable motor car is entirely unique. It was commissioned by a patron whose family business has grown from his father’s origins in the pearling industry. Widely travelled, internationally educated and cosmopolitan in his tastes and influences, the client is an established patron of the arts, who additionally owns a sizeable collection of classic and modern cars, housed in a dedicated private museum. A level of sophistication, garnered from the client’s extensive knowledge of luxury, is clearly visible in this coveted objet d’art. The overall design aesthetic is restrained; a study in carefully considered materials and precise details that together create a highly personal and emotionally resonant homage to the client’s father. At the onset of the commissioning process, the client presented Rolls-Royce Coachbuild Designers with a selection of four pearl shells, personally chosen from his private collection for their unique colour and complexity. The shells provided inspiration for the exterior colour, which is one of the most complex Bespoke finishes ever created by Rolls-Royce. The foundation of the colour is a shimmering blend of oyster and soft rose, with large white and bronze mica flakes adding a unique pearlescent quality that changes subtly under different light conditions. The contrasting cognac-coloured bonnet, created specifically for this Boat Tail, contains fine bronze and gold coloured aluminium mica flakes complete with a layer of crystal and iced matt clear coat, adding significant warmth and depth to the car’s appearance. The technical fibre lower sills of Boat Tail incorporate a rose gold woven thread. The rear deck, which houses Boat Tail’s unique ‘butterfly-design’ hosting suite, is swathed in

Royal Walnut veneer, inlaid with rose goldplated pinstripes with a satin-brushed finish to ensure a sensitive and sophisticated appearance. The Royal Walnut was specifically selected by the client for its beautiful properties as it matures over time, a material that will gradually transition to the tonal properties of the cognac colour. From above, one observes a harmonious balance and satin effect of the iced bonnet and tactile wooden rear deck, in contrast with the high-gloss front and side perspectives. From the front, the Pantheon Grille, milled from a single, solid billet of aluminium, is graced with a Spirit of Ecstasy fashioned in rose gold. The interior is a beautifully curated combination of perfectly matched cognac and oyster-coloured leathers and Royal Walnut veneer, with rose gold and mother-of-pearl accents throughout. The leathers, complete with a pearlescent finish, accentuate the surfaces and forms of Boat Tail’s seats and interior design. The transmission tunnel is formed from Royal Walnut veneer with rose gold pinstripes, drawing a direct visual reference to the rear deck and adding a glowing warmth to Boat Tail’s interior. The centrepiece of the dashboard is a timepiece made from mother-of-pearl, chosen and supplied by the client from his own collection; the fascia of which is pure and minimal in its appearance so as not to detract from the precious material. The same prised substance graces the control switches and instrument dials, creating a strong visual and material connection between the car, the owner, and his family heritage. Alex Innes, Head of Coachbuild Design, said, “Boat Tail is a step-change in ingenuity and creative liberty. Building a motor car by hand offers a new realm of exploration and possibility: we can accomplish things and resolve challenges that normal industrialised methods would prohibit. This is the tale of two worlds: a modern motor car of contemporary design, made possible by historical techniques and time-honoured craft. It is truly, one-of-a-kind.”
TALK OF THE TOWN
UAE engineering firms must work closer with educators to inspire the next generation of innovators engineering talent to meet its future requirements, industry and the Government will need to work with schools to ensure children from a young age experience hands-on practical learning of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) subjects to encourage creativity, imagination and problem-solving.
D
ubai, United Arab Emirates – 20th May 2022: The engineering sector must work closer with educators if the UAE is going to inspire and enable the next generation of Emiratis to become world-class innovators of the future, according to a new report. The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), a 151-year-old global organisation with more than 155,000 members in 148 countries, has released findings from its UAE Skills Survey report that lays bare the skills gap currently facing the emirates’ engineering industry, as well as the skills prospects for the next decade. The IET, which has been running skills surveys for the past 17 years, joined forces with market researchers YouGov, and interviewed engineers and senior decision-makers in UAE companies that employ engineers. The findings cast a positive light on the expansion of the industry over the past year, with almost half (48%) of engineering and technology firms seeing a growth in their business and one in five reporting a large increase in staff numbers. However, during 2021 the majority struggled to fill vacancies with more than nine in ten (93%) UAE engineering employers finding it difficult to recruit new staff. The report also highlights the quality of new recruits who joined the sector challenged many businesses with 58% of large companies (those with over 500 employees) saying they are struggling to find applicants with the right technical skills. Engineering employers also say there are simply not enough applicants for the jobs on offer, with a quarter saying there
8
are not enough people interested in new positions. Other challenges facing engineering employers include pressure on wages (34%), increased remote working (23%) and staff retention and turnover (23%). Over the next decade the UAE’s industrial strategy, Operation 300bn, aims to develop the industrial sector and enhance its role in stimulating the national economy. The companies which took part in the IET survey said that upskilling their staff in problem solving and leadership were amongst their most pressing training needs to meet their priorities. Most employers are confident they can address the skills gap as their businesses diversify into new ones. Almost 90% of engineering employers are confident they will be able to access the training needed to meet their goals in the next five years, with two thirds (66%) looking to implement training to address their skills gap by turning to professional training bodies, such as the IET, to meet their needs. The IET’s President, Sir Julian Young, said: “Engineering employers can gain value by encouraging the achievement of professional standards within their workforce. There are globally-recognised frameworks that exist to assess the professionalism of engineers and technicians. The attainment of such standards boosts the level of knowledge, skills, and competence, and also supports a workforce’s good ethical behaviour.” For the UAE to continue to build home-grown

David Lakin, Head of Education at the IET, said: “We need to open young people’s eyes and minds to the world of engineering at a much younger age. Not only do we need them to understand what engineering is, we want them to see that if they practically apply the STEM skills they learn in the classroom, they can improve the world for everyone.” Unlike many other countries, the view of STEM graduates is a positive one across the UAE, with over half (54%) of those who employ entry-level employees considering university education to be very effective in preparing them for the workplace. As the UAE engineering sector diversifies in the coming years, it will be critical for employers and educators to work together to shape the skills pipeline for their industry. Sir Julian added: “Employers should look at hosting work experience opportunities and mentor schemes, as well as encouraging the engineers and technicians they employ to act as STEM Ambassadors, so the next generation is inspired and prepared for the skills they need.” Few who took part in the survey identified diversity as a current issue - with only 17% saying they currently see a lack of gender diversity among the workforce and 13% recognising a lack of ethnicity in their workplace. The UAE has a truly diverse population, and it is essential for the engineering sector to continue to embrace diversity, which is critical in helping to increase creativity, productivity, and profitability. Past President of the IET, Professor Danielle George, said: “The UAE is ahead of many countries when it comes to recruiting female engineers. This is due to the efforts that have been made in the past decade to attract female graduates into the sector. We hope this trend will continue in the next ten years and would urge the UAE government to share its learning across the world.”

Nitin Jain: Finding the silver lining in the dark is the secret to success.
“S
uccess in Dubai requires self-satisfaction and fulfillment. It means living a prosperous and fulfilling life.”
Nitin Jain is the director of Affordables, the leading garment manufacturer in the UAE (UAE). He is a citizen of India who was born and raised in Delhi. He is not just a businessman but also an advocate for health and sustainability. His assistance in developing a clothing business for expats in the UAE enables him to be prosperous and contented. He has wanted to be an entrepreneur since he was a youngster. He continues to work and inspire others with his unique works and vision even today. He is now a married man with two beautiful children. Nitin stated: “I’ve lived in the UAE for 20 years and had no work when I first arrived. So the only alternative I have is to try my luck. After several months of effort and adversity, I got work at a textile firm and stayed for nearly two years.” “I established Affordables in 2003. I started my business in Ajman, and the journey has not been simple, but it has been worth it because of what is happening in my business now.” Nitin’s company concept arose amid the 2008 recession in Dubai, where the expat population around them was suffering greatly. Despite the recession hype, that event becomes a watershed
moment for him to establish a firm. He kept on looking for the silver lining amid adversity. “This idea occurred to me since I’ve noticed that expats can’t afford to buy as many clothes at the mall because of the high pricing. Spending so much money on apparel and accessories in the mall is not reasonable. That is why my wife and I decided to start a business called Affordables.” “We established the firm for the first time in September 2009 and currently manage 15 different stores. This year, we want to develop two additional locations so that more people may enjoy high-quality apparel at the most affordable prices,” he said. Success and learnings For Nitin, success in Dubai is self-fulfillment, contentment, and enjoying a rich and decent life. On the other side, Nitin argues that financial success is not the main criterion. Instead, living in peace and safety is much more significant. “I am a person who sees achievement in the face of difficulties and challenges. It makes me more robust, more confident, and more hopeful.” According to him, the fashion industry fascinates him, and it is inevitable and constant changes provide him with a great scope of innovation and a continuous search for new ideas in vogue.
“I truly believe that the fashion industry not only dresses people but defines the character.” Conquering adversities positively “We do not leave behind just wealth and inheritance - what we impart are legacy and inspiration.” Nitin shared that the constant challenges he usually encounters are when he is about to import from various countries, adopting new laws, price war, handling the needs of 250 nationalities, leasing situations, and Human Resources. He added that they need to make decisions about buying thousands of new articles, colors, and styles daily in the fashion industry, which happens to be the highest level of decision fatigue. “Like any other entrepreneur, I had to face many odds while starting my business. Capital mobilization was the biggest hurdle to begin with. It was followed by other aspects like cost of operations, working capital, extensive paperwork, and minimal support from other business enterprises,” he added. Nitin Jain was awarded Dubai Vibes Eminent Businessman of the Year 2022 for Clothing and Accessories.

‘UAE is very kind to expatriates.’ — Dr. Vinod Thampi Narayanan
“I
have been working in the UAE for 10 consecutive years and I am very happy that the benevolent governance of this country, as well as the leadership, have a real humanitarian role in giving an insurance provider to the patient – by law or otherwise. I feel it’s a very kind gesture that is happening continuously,” says Dr. Vinod Thampi Narayanan, a neurologist who also is Chief Executive Officer of Ahalia Medical Group and ergo, simultaneously a full-time consultant in Neurology and the Director of Medical Sciences in Neurosciences in his group. “I could honestly say that the best part of my career as a medical administrator at the CEO level, which I have been holding for the last 14 years, and as a practitioner with the head of neurology that I have gain for more than a decade, is the insurance coverage for patients,” Dr. Vinod says. He said insurance coverage for patients makes it more attractive for doctors to practice in the UAE. “Back in our home countries, patients spend for their diagnosis, the radiological laboratory investigations, the doctor consultation fees, cross references and the medicines from the pharmacy, from their own pocket,” Dr. Vinod said. However, he said the situation is a lot different in the UAE where approximately 85% of the population are expatriates from over 200 countries across the world. In the same vein, Dr. Vinod said: “I wish the screening of diseases (in the field of) oncology as well as genetic diseases also be taken seriously by the employers, the employees, the HR of organizations, the insurance companies, the third-party administrators, and finally the Department and Ministry of Health in this country, so much so that, if these things also are included among the insurance coverages, we will be able to serve a much bigger population with the same expertise and infrastructure.” Dr. Vinod comes from a family of engineers. “My grandfathers, both of them, my dad, my brother, all were engineers, and they excel in their professions. I took inspiration from the community to understand that medicine was my method. “Right from the age of 17, when I joined medical school, I have wanted to become a neurologist. So, I was very clear about choosing my specialization. I took the medical profession very seriously.”

What is it like for a multifaceted doctor to become a philanthropist?
A
medical practitioner that never stops trying to help others in whatever way he can. This is how people characterized Dr. Sangeeta, the Medical Director of Abu Dhabi’s 35-year-old Al Ahalia Hospital, one of the emirate’s oldest institutions. She was a doctor who served in the Indian air force and as a medical officer in the armed army. She also took part in BeingShe Universe, a female empowerment pageant. This woman has been living in the UAE for six years. She began her career as a laboratory director at the hospital before being elevated to Medical Director. Serving in a leadership role motivates her to be a sound pioneer among his colleagues. “Success is feeling content doing anything you want at the moment. Happiness is fulfillment. Small goals are achieved. And failures serve as a springboard to achievement.” She is a pathologist as well as a philanthropist. She ensures that her interest in medicine is linked to her participation in various community projects. Dr. Sangeeta felt that her hospital needed a multi-cultural approach, with doctors from all over the world. Dr. Sangeeta was born into a medical family. Her parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins work in the same industry. She stated that she had never reached a time when she needed to decide on new employment. “I was captivated by them since I was young, and they gave me a lot of drive and inspiration. I couldn’t come up with anything else, “ she said.
22
I am delighted that I reached here,” she uttered. She also said, “I worked in different government hospitals in India, and it is challenging for doctors to utilize the resources. Since India is so populated, there is always a scarcity of materials and doctors. They need to do their best despite the misery.” Life in the UAE When Dr. Sangeeta chose to relocate to the UAE, she openly discussed the difficulties of beginning from scratch. She stated that she needed to acquire a license and search for work at the time. Fortunately, she did a fantastic job on her first try. “I am fortunate to have been allowed to oversee and administer the hospital. I received my MBA in hospital administration. I’m doing everything by hand, “ she revealed.
When questioned about her children’s decision, she told Dubai Vibes Magazine that she would leave it up to them. Assume they are motivated and passionate about serving. Being a doctor is a complex and long path. Otherwise, she has their full support regardless of their interests.
She added: “When I worked here in the UAE, I learned that it focuses on its quality. They give a lot of emphasis on quality and the patient’s safety. And if this quality is taught at every level of the healthcare field, the results are wonderful and more efficient. When I return to India, I will bring all my learnings to my country.”
“I work very hard, and there is strong competition in India. I work the hardest to achieve my dreams. And with the help of the blessings, all my hard work is paid off, and I am sitting here.
Lastly, Dubai Vibes has named Dr. Sangeeta Sharma the Eminent Medical Director of the Year for 2022.

Ankit Mehta: How to glisten brighter than a diamond
A
nkit Suresh Mehta’s glittering life story began in Mumbai, India, when he discovered the world of jewels and its essence. This man had a rollercoaster journey in his career before becoming the managing director and co-owner of Palazzo Jewelry, and he had confessed that he had nothing in life. “I completed my education in Mumbai, India.” I began my career in the jewelry sector as a workshop executive administrator. “My first employment was non-salaried,” Ankit Suresh Mehta explains, emphasizing that this was industry standard for interns.
“I worked for free for about eight months to learn about jewelry manufacture and diamonds.” As part of my job routine, I used to take a two-hour train ride to this industrial facility and then return home. Due of the workload, I would sometimes spend the entire night in the plant. Regardless of the difficulties he would face along the path, he maintained his resolve. Ankit became a typical worker since his circumstances was comparable to that of others competing in India’s rigorous battles. “After work, I remember we would travel by local train in Mumbai and have lemon juice at railway stations as it was the cheapest refreshment you could get during those times. The famous Mumbai Street food, vada-pav, was our meal before sitting on the train for the two-hour-long journey home,” Ankit recalls. “Life was just passing by, and I was hoping things would change and I could get an opportunity to do something good in my life,” he added. With help from his brothers, Ankit got an offer to travel to Abu Dhabi for a salesman job with an AED1,500 monthly; it was 2005. “I accepted it immediately,” said Ankit. “I saw a Mercedes Benz as a taxi when I came out of the Abu Dhabi airport – it blew my mind. In my country, this car was rare to see on the streets. I decided to make my future here in the UAE and make my family proud,” he said. Ankit has never looked back since that day– he kept working hard, succeeded, and achieved as time passed. He worked the salesman job for three years, he said, then started his own company in Al Ain. To date, Ankit is co-owner and managing director of Palazzo Jewellery, which has three branches in Dubai and one in Abu Dhabi, focusing on going online. “We are going with the flow. The jewelry industry is very much personal, emotional, and sentimental. But as the future is online, we need to be a part of it as well, and so we are working on a “Try home, try now’ approach, which is virtual jewelry that can be viewed on smartphone devices and give people a clear idea how it would look like if they purchase it,” said Ankit. He said this could be scheduled with no charges and free delivery on purchase options. “We are planning to make it as flexible as possible for the different jewelry styles,” he said. Looking back, Ankit has these words of advice: “Do your math. Do not go with others’ perceptions or ideas. Get your numbers right and work on a plan before executing something. Do a thorough study of what you are getting into.” He is now recognized as Dubai Vibes Eminent Businessman of the Year in the E-Commerce category.

That person may be the next Raju Gidwani, who was 23 in 1991 and, having just gotten his MBA a year before, was loading up rows and rows of shelves at supermarkets in Ajman and Sharjah instead of sitting in a swivel chair writing paperwork. Years later, Gidwani, who left his middle-class family’s textile company in Beawar, Rajasthan, India, to “make my own future, attain objectives, and self-dependence,” would become executive director of Shankar Trading Co., an affiliate of the very stores where he was “shelf boy.” “I started working with Shankar Trading in 1991.” I had to start from scratch. I began working as a shelf boy. I started my adventure from there. “I learnt the retail sector in a few of years,” Gidwani, now 52, told Dubai Vibes Magazine in a rare interview. In 1993, Gidwani was promoted from shelf worker to import procurement and logistics manager. He was appointed to manager two years later, in 1995. “There was only one West Zone in 2005,” Gidwani said. “The 125th (UAE) shop will open soon in Dubai,” he said. West Zone Supermarket inaugurated its 124th location in Abu Dhabi a week before this interview. According to Gidwani, the first West Zone branch opened in Mirdiff on December 2, 2005. Gidwani is also responsible for the widespread availability of Filipino FMCGs in the UAE. “I saw the possibility 20 years ago,” he explains. “When people come here (to the UAE), they miss their home food,” he said. Gidwani stated that his first visit to the Philippines was in 1995. He was soon doing business directly with the local manufacturers. So, after starting with about 20 Filipino items, Shankar Trading is currently importing and distributing over 1,000 in the UAE, he explained. Gidwani’s spirit of being a good Samaritan is probably what keeps him going. On weekends, he works in social services. “I want to give back to the community.” I want everyone to be happy. “No one should go to bed hungry,” Gidwani remarked. “We’ve made a lot of money from this place. “It’s now time to give back to the community,” he said. Indeed, having gone full circle from organizing grocery shelves to importing and distributing merchandise, there appears to be nowhere else to go but back to the community, where it all began after all. Raju Gidawani is currently the Dubai Vibes Eminent Businessman of the Year for Chain of Superstores for 2022.

ho doesn’t want to maintain their fitness and health? Now that summer has arrived, many of us would like to take a holiday and visit the beach to enjoy the sun’s heat and spend time bonding with our family and friends. But, one of the things that we are concerned with, particularly in men, is how to appear slim, fit, and healthy. We asked nutrition and fitness expert Kian Barazandeh for his advice to those individuals, not only males, on how to stay fit and healthy this summer so that we can show ourselves more boldly and physically, but most importantly psychologically, everywhere. Please take notice that these suggestions will be quite beneficial to us. 1. Determine and Monitor Your Weight Keeping track of your body weight daily or weekly can allow you to know what you’re losing and gaining. 2. Eat Healthy Meals and Limit Unhealthy Foods Remember to have breakfast and select a nutritious meal that has more protein and fiber and less fat, sugar, and calories. You don’t have to give up these comfort foods that we’ve become accustomed to. It’s all about limits and control. 3. Take Multivitamin Supplements Taking a daily multivitamin tablet to ensure adequate nutritional levels is a brilliant idea,
especially if you don’t have a range of veggies and fruits at home. Many micronutrients, such as vitamins A, B6, B12, C, D, and E, and zinc, iron, copper, selenium, and magnesium, are essential for your immune system. No proof adding supplements or “wonder mineral supplements” to your diet can help protect you against the illness or speed up your recovery. High vitamin dosages might be harmful to your health in some situations. 4. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, and limit your intake of sugary beverages Drink plenty of water to keep healthy, but no evidence doing so often (e.g., every 15 minutes) will help avoid viral infections. 5. Engage in regular physical activity and exercise At this point, at-home training might be beneficial. However, you may also go for a stroll or run outside. Make sure you’re up to date on what’s happening in your neighbourhood. If you have the time, go to the gym for 30 minutes to an hour daily. 6. Minimize your sitting and screen time Exercise will not protect you from your sedentary lifestyle. Even persons who frequently exercise may be at greater risk for diabetes, heart disease, and stroke if they spend a lot of time sitting in front of computers. Practically, you may try taking sedentary breaks, such as strolling
around the office/room a couple of times each day. 7. Get Enough Quality Sleep Sleep quality and amount have a strong relationship with your immune system. Get seven to eight hours of sleep each night to maintain your immune system operating correctly. 8. Drink Moderately and Stay Sober Consuming alcohol will not protect you from coronavirus infection. Don’t forget that the calories from alcohol may soon mount up. Alcohol should be drunk in moderation at all times. 9. Learn to Manage Your Emotions During a pandemic, it is usual for individuals to experience dread, worry, despair, and uncertainty. 10. Use an app to track your activity, sleep, and heart rate People with major chronic medical disorders, such as excessive obesity, diabetes, and heart disease, are at a higher risk of complications and becoming extremely unwell from the COVID-19 infection. They should consult with their doctors and follow their advice. It’s essential to be healthy no matter what season we’re in. Remember to be cautious and remain safe these days.
