SPIRIT 2.0
A OF IBIZ
SPIRIT OFF IBIZA? THIS THING CALLED SPIRIT OF IBIZA IS NOTHING OTHER THAN THE FEELING THAT BROUGHT US ALL HERE...
LO QUE LLAMAN ESPIRITU DE IBIZA ES NI MÁS NI MENOS LO QUE NOS TRAJO A TODOS AQUÍ…
With us I really mean most, because there are hardly any real Ibicencos, this is all a mélange of different cultures, the only difference is that some are born here and others were not so lucky... but finally found their way to Ibiza. And if they stay for a living their children will be born as Ibicencos as well.
Since the appearance of the hippies in the late 60s this island converted into something nobody would have ever expected. It became a Mecca for free minds, people with the need to express themselves in whichever way possible. Sure, the pirates were kind of free minds as well, but their form of living had nothing to do with ours today.
In the last 20 years Ibiza has become the centre of electronic music during the summer months, 40.000 tourists of which almost 25.000 look for diversion in the big clubs each and every single night, non-stop. And as we have a certain liberal way of living here which makes everyone think he can go bonkers whilst staying in Ibiza.
This may be funny up to a certain point, but humans tend to push their limits, and some of them go way beyond. I do not want to write another article on how you should behave on your holidays, but as we are in the centre of attention because this freedom is abused in so many ways, we have to try to at least maintain this freedom for all of us.
The government in some areas of Ibiza changed after the elections, the new one also knows that the party-scene is a big part of Ibiza’s tourism, but we should not continue to push their limits. Music is the drug, this is our message, and they cannot prohibit this as long as we prove to be old enough to not endanger our lives and the ones of others. So please dear family, try out a night with sparkling water, dance until dawn, share your experience with others and just enjoy this lovely island in all its colours, so it may remain what we love so much forever.

WINTER IN IBIZA TEXT: ANDREAS SIMON // PHOTO: PHRANK

06/07
SAME PROCEDURE AS EVERY YEAR… NOT? The winter in Ibiza has, believe it or not, developed into a serious alternative to the summer’s craze. We count with more than 130.000 people, living on this tiny little island the whole year round, and since 2007, for the first time, there are more ‘non-Ibicencos’, meaning Spaniards from the mainland and people from other countries, than Ibicencos living in Ibiza. With the new technologies like e.g. a finally really fast internet (which was not normal 2 years ago...) there are more and more people coming to Ibiza that can make a living out of being connected, e.g. producers of electronic music, digital artists, writers etc.. This makes for a really interesting melange of creative heads, exchanging their ideas and like this multiplying their output. This makes the social life during the 7 off-season months very interesting. And I am not just referring to the nightlife, no, we had a fantastic winter with a really mild January and February so the beauty of this island showed up like never before. It is those endless walks with the dogs on a beach, exploring the north over and over again, visiting the few spots you never saw in years of living here... and the people take it really easy. Sooner or later you meet everybody somewhere and you get to know them as they really are, not in the rush of the summer where nobody has time for anything. But let’s talk a bit about the nightlife... Once again the winner for
PROCEDEREMOS COMO TODOS LOS AÑOS… ¿O NO?
me is our beloved Grial, there seems to be a lot more space left to grow, because this winter was even better than the last one, they worked hard on lights and, more importantly, sound. Function One is for me the best sound system there is, and in Grial you can prove that very easily. I remember playing Wednesdays and people coming to me asking: ‘Where is the subwoofer, where is this sound coming from?’ Well, my answer was ‘there isn’t one...’, the sound is just fantastic like it is, something both big or small versions of Function One sound systems have in common. Respect! The best parties were Sense every Wednesday, Twisted every Friday, the few well-chosen dates of Industria, Jessica76 with a different sound and, last but not least, Electra with their incredible decoration. Pacha works well in winter too, for me the best parties there were the HDI – House de Ibiza with Jordi Villalta and friends and Houseworld. PK2 reopened and they had some really good nights, this place counts with a long tradition and is well worth a visit. Lo Cuuuuuraaaa... This place is just magic, and I love it even more in winter, as it really becomes a family story. The DJ booth is for sure the smallest on the island, but is another proof that size does not matter... From dub with love! After hours? Yeah! Some serious mornings were celebrated in our beloved Sunrise on calle de la Virgen with Monica69 and friends...
After hours?

RE-DESIGN-MIX Humans tend to always reinvent themselves, change their environment for the supposedly better, or just ‘optimize’ their life. Whether this is good will not be discussed here, the fact is that we have done the same with the dub magazine. The issue you hold in your hands is our version 2.0, we’ve remixed almost everything, from a new logo to the size and the quality of the paper, to a content that is a lot clearer without losing its charm. The logo was born out of the symmetry of the word ‘dub’ in combination with the flow of being able to draw it all in one go, similar to the ‘infinity’ sign. And it is open towards the above, signifying positivism and progress. The new size gives the mag another appearance, now it becomes even more a collector’s item, the only disadvantage is that it does not fit so easily in one’s pocket. But you will find a way... The content is clearer now, we work with bigger pictures to give them more impact, also we kept the same amount of words but in more space, so it is easier to read and therefore easier to enjoy. The paper quality is, not only thanx to our printer, another step in a new dimension: We opt for a paper that is not recycled to keep the quality of colours and sharpness, but it is one that costs the trees almost nothing, for they are our very good friends. And we don’t like it too glossy, as this is bad for the environment as well. The cover is waxed, so you could even drop your cold drink on it... but please don’t try. So enjoy our ‘new’ dub, if you have any questions or feedback you can contact us at office@dubibiza.com, we are open to any constructive comments.
Estamos abiertos a cualquier comentario constructivo.

SAME PROCEDURE AS EVERY YEAR... ALMOST... As you might have seen (it is hard not to) the roads are ‘more or less’ finished, nobody knows where to drive to and the feeling of going through a tunnel in Ibiza is still veeery strange. The majority of people say it is a relief for the island to have these big roads, sure, you can drive faster from San An to Ibiza and Santa Eulalia, and the Airport is just 15 minutes away now. But this will only be cool as long as there are not a lot more people coming to the island, so let’s hope this relief will stay one... And one thing is true: most of the new roads, like the one from San Rafael to the connection to Santa Eulalia, are safe now. Thanx for this. Anyway, besides all the highways there really is a lot to tell this year, let’s start in
ALLÁ VAMOS CON LO MISMO DE TODOS LOS AÑOS… O CASI… 14

chronological order: If you want to have breakfast in Ibiza you have a variety of options, we recommend the Croissant Show, from 07:30 on you can get your caffeine dose and the finest patisseries… Sunset Café became Sunset DeliCafé, now not only can you have a relaxed coffee, snack, beer or whatever, but you can also choose from different delicatessens to take away or enjoy on the rebuilt terrace. A must! Bliss Café is always a perfect option as well, on the whole all Plaza del Parque is good to get the latest gossip! On the backside, facing the old town wall, you will find Out of Time People, not just a breakfast but a spiritual encounter! If you want to have a cheap but very filling breakfast you can go to Buenissimo in Vara del Rey, always packed and always good! Out of Ibiza? In Jesus you have to visit the Croissant Show or the Bon Lloc.
Cana Negreta on the road to Sta. Eulalia offers you Bar Toni, coffee at 90 cents! In Sta. Eulalia you should, once again, visit the Croissant Show, or the Maritim Café in the Puerto Deportivo. San Carlos stays with Bar Anita, THE reference for breakfast, bocadillos, tapas etc… San Juan is just as original, there the place is called Vista Alegre. In San Lorenzo La Paloma is where you should go, not just good breakfasts but fantastic brunches and buffets as well! In San Miguel you have to visit the ‘Café of the false teeth’ in the market place, coffee for 85 cents!
Sta. Gertrudis, still my favourite, offers savoury breakfasts from 08.00h at the Can Partit or try the fantastic Otto Cappuccini, again under new management; breakfast, breads and midday menus are back. If you went to San Antonio by mistake or booked a hotel there you should visit the very end
ENOUGH BREAKFAST?
Then let’s go and get some sun… but protect yourself well, it is really boiling this year. In Salinas my first choice will always be Sa Trinxa, best crowd, music and food… and try the Sangria! Jockey Club and the adjacent Malibu are beautiful spots as well, try to find a good massage there, it is worth it! In Es Cavallet, on the other side of Salinas, you can find the Es Cavallet Chiringuito or the Chiringuay further down the beach, the latter is home to the more colourful crowd. A dream! In Playa d’en Bossa you find Bora Bora, 300
meters along on the left, where the old Pin Up club was, you find BioBeach with the finest tunes. A tip! Cala d’Hort offers the view to the legendary Es Vedra, 360 meters of magnetic rock… Sa Caleta is a dream for bathing, as is Es Codolar behind the airport with the Macao Café on the rocks. It is situated on a pebble beach, but has crystal clear water. Cala Jondal also offers a clear sea, some good restaurants and a fantastic tranquillity. San Antonio is massive, but you have to know very well where to go. A must is the SunSeaBar, or the new Golden Buddha round the corner, not to forget Kumharas (again), obligatory for the best sunsets, a dream come true! The people from Kumharas will again be doing the CAT project just next door this summer, it’s all about Tibet and all the benefits go to public institutions there, guaranteed. Cala Saladita is a secret tip,
(one of those we will tell you, because our last resorts have to be kept secret … sorry), after San Antonio head north, follow the signs, it is worth the search! Cala Xarraca high up in the north is a mustsee as well, or Cala Benirras next to San Miguel, once home to the legendary drum festival… Aguas Blancas on the way to San Vicente is a perfect spot to take a dip, best water and relatively few people. Try the bar on the left end! Between Sta. Eulalia and Jesus comes Cala Llonga, follow the signs to Sol d’en Serra, a hidden spot surrounded by rocks, a perfect restaurant, best to relax and chill… We must not forget s’Estanyol between Talamanca and Jesus, up the mountain and then down, a spot to disconnect and recharge the batteries…

of the port, there you find the Café des Port, best food at best prices. Or you go to Kumharas in the west end, they stay open the whole day, with breakfast by the pool, spa-feeling and true Ibiza Spirit. In San Rafael you should try the Café Centre, THE place for a strong coffee and more.

You should visit the old town of Ibiza, they are really working hard to restore the whole area. Pure Ibiza Spirit! In Buffalo on the Vara de Rey you can get nice things for a reasonable price. The price spiral in Ibiza is very widespread, there are no limits. Possibilities for extreme shopping are e.g. Heaven in Marina Botafoch, the NIC in Vara de Rey, or EGB in c/ Bartolome Rosello.

PARTY!
Gertrudis. ¿Prefieres 20

Partying here is amongst the best worldwide, 24 hours a day! More than 400 bars, 7 big clubs and 5-10 small ones, at least 300 DJ cabins waiting to be spinned. Live music will also be a big factor this year, a fact we like very much! For the perfect warm-up visit the Mambo Bar in Ibiza’s port or the Reunion Bar by Ulises Braun next to the Rock Bar. Further up the mile you find Bar Savoy, after you go to my beloved Lo Cura by Düsi, Anita and Luna, this year joined by WeLove resident David Phillips, finest beats and the best mojitos in town. A perfect balance between the clubbing culture and the best of the local scene, this place is a must-go! Next Step is the Grial, endless years in a row winner in the winter, and this summer we can expect a lot more, they will maintain a fine booking’s schedule all through the season. Watch out! Some of the big dates will be the presentation of our mags. Grial rules!

Another strike is the reopened Blue Rose in Figueretas, no more stripping but lots of booty... Fine nights with a fusion of live music and electronic beats. Killer! You like HipHop? Funk? Rap? Then there is a new place for you, small but wow! In Loop one of Ibiza’s oldest hotspots, on Plaza la Drasaneta just up the Calle de la Virgen, you will find ‘Freak for me’ every Friday by the Business Hippies, finest soundz live! In Sta. Eulalia you should go to Guarana, Sundays live music, the other days you can enjoy the finest house from Tomas Hedberg & Co. Aura on the way to San Juan caters to the English crowd, Bambuddha on the same road will prepare some surprises as well. In San An Bar M will be home to the Manumission crowd. Ibiza-Origins? Las Dalias on the way to San Carlos will hold fine events like every

Let’s go on with Space, no doubt the club
with the biggest changes, as our beloved Fritz is no longer their manager. Thanx at this point for 16 years of loyalty to this island! And we welcome the new staff; you have a big legacy to defend! But we are sure it will work out. Space hosts great nights like the La Troya on Wednesdays, La Comunidad on Fridays and the longest party, WeLoveSpace on Sundays. Amnesia keeps rockin, Mondays is home to Cocoon, this year they do a ‘freak show’, and you can be sure they will truly freak out. We are family! Cream on Thursdays and People from Ibiza on Saturdays are classics as well. Privilege did a really good job this year, the biggest newcomer there is definitely the Monza night, they came from Penelope via Space to Privilege and will have an even better line-up this year, if this is possible. Legendary! Mondays is Home, an own party from Privilege, and the other big news is Alma from the

LET’S GO TO THE CLUBS!
Nowhere else in Europe will you find such a high concentration of big clubs, there were 7, but this year there are 2 more on the playground! The freshly re-opened Heaven (former Penelope) hosts the colourful crowd in a mix of English and international, veeery interesting. The other one is the old Kiss (or Somny), now called Diva and completely restored. They host nights like the Underclub, the rest is not confirmed yet. We from dub wish them all the best!

Circo Loco crew. Be prepared... Manumission on Fridays and Silicon on Saturdays are classics already. Big, bigger, Privilege! Pacha keeps their all-time faves, Roger Sanchez’s Release Yourself on Mondays, Defected on Tuesdays, Erick Morillo’s Subliminal on Wednesdays and the F... Me I’m famous on Thursdays are 100% party! Divino goes once again for classics like Salvacion on Thursdays, Penetra on Wednesdays etc. DC10 is heading towards eternity, this year it is not just the Monday’s monster Circo Loco, on Wednesdays Mr. C and his Dollz at play will burn the floor with their Superfreq. night, and Fridays will be Pandemonium with Tanja Vulcano & Company. Don’t miss it! You see, there is more than you can take, so choose well where to go, holidays are short, and in Ibiza even shorter, as you

TIME TO GO TO BED?
Cheap and good is the Casa Huespedes in Ibiza, Vara de Rey, a secret spot is Pepitas in Salinas, if you want to party even in the hotel go to the Jet Hotels in Playa d’en Bossa or to Es Vivé, they host DJs, VIPs and some real stars. They even have their own little club! Pacha Hotel is, as the name indicates, another hot spot for 24h partying… Another tip is the Hotel Punic on the way to Sa Caleta, a place for friends... Atzaro or Can Curreu are a dream for Agro tourism, you will find more places in the countless Guides. You can find numbers of all the aforementioned places in the back

This one is not new, but so mind blowing that, if you did not know about Dr. Masaru Emoto and his research about water, life, positive thinking, etc. before, you will freak. I promise. This article is from extracts of an interview of Dr. Emoto by Ray Hemachandra in the ‘New Age Retailer’ magazine in 2005. Dr. Emoto believes that in a former life he had already been a scientist, and in this life he feels he has a master plan to do something outstandingly good. His search for the master plan brought him through sound to one of the substances that almost all life is related to: water. Further on his research on water brought him to Hado Medicine, the medicine about vibration. A minimal vibration that cannot even be measured, but is there and keeps us moving. And what transmits vibration perfectly? Water... Both Earth and the human beings who inhabit it largely are made up of water. Oceans cover 70 percent of the Earth’s surface. The human body also is about 70 percent water, and the human brain is 85 percent water! In many religions and traditions, water is considered sacred, or endowed with special spiritual powers, especially as a purifier. By exposing water to words, music, images, or prayers, freezing the water, and taking photos of the resulting water crystals with YOU FOOL high-speed photography, Emoto learned that water responds to our words, thoughts, and feelings. Beautiful words, such as “thank you”, “wisdom”, or “angel”, created commensurately beautiful water crystals. Water molecules also formed beautifully when blessed, shown lovely photographs, or played soul-soothing music, such as Bach’s “Air on the G string” or Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake.” But when shown negative words, like “Satan” or “You fool,” or played heavy-metal music, the water crystals deformed badly. Emoto’s lesson is clear and explicit: The words we choose to speak and think and the stimuli we surround ourselves with have a profound impact on our wellbeing — our physical health and our spirit. “So many different sounds exist in this world. There are very soft, mellow, peaceful sounds, and there are dangerous, crisis sounds. Probably, the sounds that come from destruction make bad, negative words. Beautiful sounds from beautiful phenomena in the world create beautiful words. If you speak negative words, that leads to destructive matters, and if you speak positive words, then some positive and beautiful thing will occur”, Dr. Emoto explains.

You might ask yourself ‘but how does he come to the result of different crystal shapes after exposing different information (or vibration?) to water? Well, this is how it works: The water used is distilled water. For showing the words, the words are not written by hand but typed on a word processor. The word is put on the bottle or glass backward, like a mirror effect, so the water can read the word, and the water reads the word for more than 24 hours. For pictures, the bottle or glass of water is placed on top of the picture for more than 24 hours. With prayer, if you have the water right there, you can pray and then take the sample right away. In terms of music, the water ‘listens’ to the music. Or, the water is shown a photograph. Immediately after that, the water goes into a freezer at minus 25 degrees Celsius for three hours. Right after that, a photograph is taken of the crystal. There were many cases where he showed a photograph or picture to the water, and the crystals would form in the exact shape of the thing pictured. When shown a picture of an elephant, the crystal created the nose right in the center. When shown a shrine, the crystals recreated the roof shape and the rope shape from the picture. Dr. Emoto would like to offer the theory that water is like human beings’ memory mechanism. Water gets the information from the picture, and through that the PRAYER water is able to show the actual shape of the picture and the details that the water saw, or felt the vibration of, much like our own memory mechanism. Water takes every form, is used in many different ways. We drink it, we clean with it, there are many different forms of water. Water does not complain, whether it is used to flush your toilet or to heal your body, water seems to basically stay the same. But it is not, as you can see in the crystals. And how does the water take in the information??? Dr. Emoto tells us: “I believe water is such a complicated substance. When you look YOU FOOL at physics, you can understand everything that exists in this world. But, I believe water came from outside of this earth — from outer space. So, we cannot understand water with normal physics. I believe that water is a light, because water has many different kinds of shapes and forms. Maybe this universe is like water soup — a soup made of water! Some places are hard. In some places, there is nothing. Some places are light. What has connection to all these different elements is the vibration. I believe that the water gets the information through vibration.” This brings us back to Hado Medicine, or better said vibrational medicine. Hado is a vibration that cannot be seen, because it 40

WATER GETS THE INFORMATION FROM THE PICTURE

To end this incredible story another article we wrote last year comes to mind: You remember the EM (Effective Microorganisms), the bunch of organisms that are able to turn around each ‘bad’ liquid in a ‘good’ one just by adding a few ‘good’ – as in ‘life creating’ organisms - to it? Well, this is what Dr. Emoto says: “In my lectures, I talk about how water and water crystals are 10 percent goodness, 10 percent evil, and the rest — 80 percent — is opportunist. When the 10 percent that is goodness and the 10 percent that is badness in water crystals fight, then the 10 percent that is goodness wins and overpowers evilness. So, if the 10 percent of goodness would carry past that fight to the 80 percent that is opportunist, than the 80 percent will follow the goodness, not the badness. Likewise, 10 percent of people are positive and believe in this, 10 percent are skeptical, and the other 80 percent are looking to see who wins!” You can find out more about Dr. Emoto and his research about water in the following page: HYPERLINK „http://www.masuruemoto.net“ www.masaru-emoto.net. text: William de Worde

is so small. It is so subtle that it cannot even be measured. Dr. Emoto believes that we should move toward vibrational medicine. The starting point of that is people’s hearts. When you have a stressed or damaged heart, then your body becomes damaged, as well. He believes that how God, or something great, created this world, is with love and gratitude. Love is an active energy, and gratitude is a passive energy. He also believes that when you deviate from this law, this balance of love and gratitude, a person is destined to have illness.

HOVI – HOME VIDEO FESTIVAL IBIZA 2007
FESTIVAL DE VIDEOS CASEROS DE IBIZA
It always gives one faith to see people working on something ‘just’ for the cause, not the benefit... This was the case in the first edition of ‘HOVI’ Ibiza 2007, a festival for all those who have something interesting to showcase when it comes to music, film, or anything related to these subjects. It took place in a new venue just at the Pacha roundabout, and was pure underground spirit. As soon as I walked in I knew that all the people involved had worked their heads off to get this festival going, and the installations were spectacular.
From really crazy videos, e.g. of a bunch of people cleaning a room via a very interesting showroom from the ‘girlzschool’ crew to an experimental sound-installation covered by Ibiza Sonica Radio, everybody was fully involved. We from dub hope that this festival will have a long future and that money will never be a driving force, as this is pure Ibiza spirit. Thanx to all the people organizing this event and all the visitors who made it a complete success! See you next year!

SONICA INTERVIEW 0607 IBIZA SONICA, ALMOST 1 YEAR LATER... HOW DOES IT FEEL? On the one hand satisfied with the work done, and on the other excited by what is coming. This year has been hard work, summer never finished for us and we’ve had the chance to learn a lot and also have loads of fun. We have learnt that on a musical level Ibiza is very knowledgeable; it has an incredible music culture. Many times when we decide to change our line of music for something more commercial people call us up to tick us off saying ‘nononono, don’t let anything change you, it’s your style’ which means the people get to decide where this radio station is heading. This is how it should be in all radio stations. People demand quality, and what’s interesting is that on the outside many think that when it comes to electronic music Ibiza is mega commercial, but it isn’t, here they demand quality and more quality. In what regards the radio we have managed to broadcast the real sounds of this island through the use of already existing technologies, not by inviting people to our studios but by taking the studio to them. We have broadcast from incredible locations, places never visited by any radio station. I get all excited telling you because it’s really like this. If you broadcast from a mastering studio, a live concert from the hippie market in Es Canar, or yesterday’s 10 hours with ‘Nightmares on Wax’ in Kumharas... and in the evening in places like the Macarena Club in Barcelona with you, people really appreciate it, and the promotion this signifies for the locations, DJs and the music industry is fantastic. 60

We have also grown a lot in terms of our collaborators; there have been some really interesting proposals from even more interesting people which we have received with open arms. We have an incredible programme line-up for this season. IBIZA SONICA – CULTURA SONICA. CAN YOU EXPLAIN WHAT CULTURA SONICA IS? It is a non-profit cultural association whose goal is to promote and spread the music from Ibiza and to help all the producers, musicians, disc jockeys and people related to this music industry through an association that ensures that everything goes well. The difference between Ibiza Sonica and Cultura Sonica is simple. Cultura Sonica has various tools such as the web page, an audio production academy which is in the process of being created so that anyone interested has the opportunity to learn how to produce electronic music, and last, but not least, Cultura Sonica has a radio station to broadcast Ibiza’s musical culture YOU HAVE GROWN A LOT, WHO ARE THE ‘BASIC’ TEAM? In principle the commentators, we also have people doing the office work in Cultura Sonica, and we have loads of collaborators, both local and international. Most of the programmes are made here, and some come as exclusives from outside. When it comes to the daily programme schedule in the mornings we count on people like, Valentín Ruedo, the Café del Mar resident, with his ‘Zoologico Musical’, I start at midday, the Cultura Sonica programme starts at 2 and there you can listen to Al Velilla from Macha Recordings, also Joele Brizzio, Xavier Fux from Mexico, Solar Sides, Eva Pacifico, P.M F.M., Nico and friends with their

‘Jardin Botánico’ specialized in Reggae music which is fantastic, Laurent from FeelIbiza Music, Malte from MovinSounds, Charles Webster as our international collaborator, Space Teepee Music with Swann and Elea and Lenny Ibizarre. And there’s more… Larry Capolla from Electronic Latin Freeze, Nightmares on Wax will be doing their own show every Thursday, as will the Cocoon crowd every Monday, Weltrecordings with Nima Gorji, Franceso Farfa with ‘Farfa Sound’, José Padilla, DJ Tsunami, Balearia with Andy Wilson. We also count on Vila Rodríguez who is in charge of agendas and activities, and Carlos Sense who will be visiting clubs around the world and bringing their key players back here. Apart from that at night we promote Ibiza’s clubs like Space, and on Sundays we will be broadcasting live from WeLoveSpace. Apart from that we seize every chance to run around the streets and pick up whatever we can of what’s happening with our microphones. WHERE IS SONICA HEADING? With the intention of having a good time and creating an association of serious and professional musicians with quality on offer. I think it pains us all to see Ibiza portrayed outside the island in ways that have nothing to do with Ibiza. We want to show the island itself, as well as those outside, what this is all about. That it isn’t only about parties but about the electronic culture created here. YEAR?

RADIO INTER-VIEW

BIG CITY BEATS
PURE MUSIC IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS Those who live within transmission range of bigFM or Radio Galaxy can consider themselves fortunate – after all, they’re able to enjoy the big city beats every Saturday (though all others can listen to it on the internet). That’s the day the BigCityBeats team broadcasts club sounds for partygoers live from the U.F.O. in Frankfurt – with growing success. What started out as the simple idea of a minimalist radio program for electronic music has now grown into a small, cross-media enterprise which in addition to the show produces a successful CD series, organizes breathtaking events for Germany’s party crowd and hits Ibiza in the summertime. Bernd Breiter is the man behind BigCityBeats. A lot of things have been happening in three years of BigCityBeats. But the idea behind it hasn’t changed. “At the time we figured there were so many people working in dance music only addressing other people in the same field”, remembers Bernd. “But the people who enjoy dance music in their spare time or on week-ends are often left out. I mean those people who don’t want to know which label published what track or what kind of samples the artist used, but who simply want to go to the club and dance the night away.” So the proximity to the consumer is what matters to the man from Frankfurt. “BigCityBeats is a kind of mouthpiece for people that’s on their level. And the big city beats stand for the feeling you have when the week’s coming to an end. It’s Friday afternoon, 2 p.m., and you notice that strong desire to get out on the dance floor, forget the daily routine and enjoy the night. That’s basically what BigCityBeats is all about.” What was created to somehow fill the gap that formed when many commercial TVs and radios, in spite of all evidence to the con70

trary, declared dance music to be dead and erased it from their programs, is now an integral part of what partygoers plan for their nights out. Something like good friends. Humanity instead of shoptalk: “Even when Sven Väth’s playing for us, which he frequently does, we don’t speak about the technology he uses or suchlike, he talks about personal things instead. That’s what people like to hear.” That – and the music played weekly not only by BCB residents Steve Blunt, Paul Lomax, Hildegard and Marco Petralia, but also by top acts of the music scene like Moguai, Paul van Dyk or Milk & Sugar. But it’s the mixture between Carina’s and Rita’s unconventional presentation, the very personal artist interviews, the news from the Rave line desk and the regular live broadcasts from all major BCB Summer Clubbing events – NATURE ONE, Sea of Love, Islands or Privilege/ Ibiza – that glue the listeners week after week to their radios or to bigcitybeats.de However, BigCityBeats is much more than a radio show that’s on air every Saturday at 8 p.m. All 6 volumes of the CD compilation series enjoy great success. “BigCityBeats has always consisted of the idea of offering a lifestyle concept that’s much more than just a radio program. It’s supposed to represent our philosophy in other areas as well.” And the makers certainly succeeded – all BigCityBeat events are crowd pullers, just like the recent album release tour. While other events show off with big and expensive line-ups, BigCityBeats deliberately rely on their residents and still fill the locations to the brim. “The name BigCityBeats is enough for the people. We’d rather upgrade our technology so we are able to offer innovation and convey great emotions and impressions,” explains Bernd with a trace of pride.

While up till now the CDs have been produced in cooperation with the residents, BCB now takes it one step further by releasing a compilation from the Ibiza super club Privilege at the beginning of July – compiled and mixed by Circo Loco resident Cirillo and star DJ John Acquaviva from Canada. The latter, who hosts the Meganite events with Mauro Picotto in Privilege, has become an integral part of the BCB family and is happy about it. And to top it all for the first time there will be a compilation of the Sea of Love open air festival this year in Freiburg, Germany on the 24th of June - mixed by no less than Moguai. For Bernd, this development is logical but nonetheless gratifying. Just like the fact that BCB now cooperates with Defected on a monthly basis and organizes a special show. And that Ibiza’s Global Radio will transmit BCB. Bernd never forgets his roots in the label business and his love for vinyls, as proven by the sporadic releases like Jerome Ismae’s “Phantom” including a remix by Tom Novy. But, as he emphasizes, he only does that for fun. All in all you can be sure that there’s much to be expected from BigCityBeats in the future, judging from Bernd’s thirst for action and all the ideas he has in store for you. We look forward to it!

ISLANDS PART I BALEARIC FLAIR IN OFFENBACH HARBOR
AIRES BALEÁRICOS EN EL PUERTO DE OFFENBACH
On the 29th and 30th of June, the premiere of the Island Festival will lure partygoers to Hesse and offer Ibiza style holiday feelings for those who stayed at home. As in previous years, the King Kamehameha Beach Club (Hafeninsel 2, Offenbach) will be the location for the only large-scale and true Ibiza festival in Germany.
This hot spot for sun seekers in Offenbach’s former harbour is located on a long, narrow peninsula. During the week, these white, Balearic flavoured beach sceneries surrounded by water, inspire visitors to relax and sip fruit juices. On this special weekend however, there will also be dancing, partying and cocktails. Many naked feet will be dancing on over 11.000 m2 covered by 5000 tons of fine quartz sand, offering a sharp contrast to Frankfurt’s bustling metropolis and providing a spiritual holiday for the overworked and stressed. Last year, 8.000 cheerful party guests danced to the records of island residents like Paul Lomax, Sin Plomo, André Galluzzi and many more.
The big names from the island will all be back this year: the mega club Privilege as well as the cult club El Divino, the beach bars Blue Marlin, Café del Mar, Sa Trinxa and Jockey Club, the party series Cocoon Ibiza and In Bed With Space as well as Ministry of Sound presenting their “Clubber’s Guide to Ibiza” – a recently released CD that not only offers two Dj mixes by Space residents Jonathan Ulysses and Voodoo&Serano but also a 68-page booklet featuring all sorts of information about Ibiza. They will also be putting up 15 of their very own Djs. This event will represent the highlight of the German 2007 summer festivals in Germany‘s most beautiful outdoor location, but the pleasure won‘t only be derived from the music, fireworks and laser shows will delight the crowd. An array of Ibiza performances with acts on stilts, great costumes and acrobatics will add to the entertainment. There will also be Mediterranean food, various shops and numerous stalls on offer. And to complete the happy-go-lucky-Ibiza-feeling, the phenomenal and legendary sunset as seen from San Antonio’s Café del Mar will be filmed on both evenings and shown live in Offenbach, roughly 2.000 kilometres away. The party begins on Friday at 6 p.m. and again on Saturday at 3 p.m. The price for one day is 15 EUR - for those who don’t want to miss anything there’s the two day ticket for 25 EUR.

MIXMASTER OF THE FIRST ‚SEA OF LOVE’ COMPILATION
MIXMASTER OF THE FIRST ‘SEA OF LOVE’ COMPILATION
DJ and producer André Tegeler is a busy man. The artist known as Moguai not only succeeds with his own releases like the recently published single „Freaks“ on Superstar Recordings, produced with his colleague Tocadisco, or the track that will be released this month: „Ataque“, on his own label PUNX, including remixes by Meat Katie and Guy Gerber. He also hosts his successful event series „Moguai & Friends“, repeatedly bringing top acts like Paul van Dyk, Chris Liebing, Timo Maas or DJ Hell (in July, @Heaven, Münster) to the region around his hometown Recklinghausen. The events become increasingly popular and are already firmly established in the north-west of Germany. Besides, the man who shares his studio with friend and colleague Phil Fuldner is booked for all of this summer season‘s festivals, such as the Sea of Love in Freiburg on june 24. Though Moguai will be more than just one Dj amongst many since he‘s got the privilege of compiling and mixing the first CD ever to this event. A fortunate coincidence, as he states: „I‘ve already played before at the Sea of Love. When they asked me to do the compilation, I was planning on doing a mix CD anyway.“ Moguai wanted the mix to be a compilation for any occasion instead of just a club session. „It‘s important to me that you can listen to a mix compiltion anywhere – in the car, at home or as background music in a fashion store.“ And in order to capture the right atmospere he decided to keep the first disk from the double CD by his standards rather soft, while CD no.2 rocks in the typical Moguai fashion. Besides some of his own recent productions there are tracks by Johannes Heil, Eyerer & Namito and Gui Boratto, among others. But there‘s one act he specially cares for, and that‘s Phonolulu, synonym for ex Genlog member Oliver Kunze. „This is a pre-release – the track will soon come out on PUNX. It sounds like a mixture between Booka Shade and Goldfrapp.“ Besides all the stress Moguai will nevertheless take a time-out on his favourite island Formentera and pay a couple of visits to Ibiza.

NIKKI’S COLUMN MY “FIRST TIME” OR: NEVER GO FOR POT LUCK AGAIN
MI “PRIMERA VEZ“. O: NUNCA MÁS UN “VIAJE RULETA“.
1993: Intrigued by numerous tales about various after-hours, it takes me about 1.25 seconds to convince my boyfriend to take a two-week pot luck holiday to Ibiza. Too bad we knew the island itself about as much as we knew about pot luck holidays.
We wanted to go to Playa d‘en Bossa and ended up in... San Antonio. While someone a little better informed would have become suspicious after 20 minutes on the bus to the hotel, we remained oblivious. After about 45 minutes on a smelly shuttle bus stopping at all kinds of shabby hotels, we’re finally dropped off in front of our hotel. And this is supposed to be crazy Ibiza? Where are all the freaky party people? It takes another 20 minutes till it dawns on us that something has gone wrong. With the help of a map handed out at the hotel we realize reasonably fast that San Antonio is miles from Playa d‘en Bossa. Pot Luck: if the actual place of destination is booked out, you‘re simply wheeled to the next one, or, as was our case, anywhere on the island. Rien ne vas plus! We try to accept our fate and calm down after an initial nervous breakdown. Right, so the bus station for the party shuttles is a few kilometres away and always hopelessly overcrowded. Our student’s travel budget doesn’t allow for a hired car, so we think twice before making a move to the south of the island. But Space is on the very top of our list. Buses going south on Sunday morning? Forget it. So we decide to hitchhike. Too bad that there‘s a car passing by only about every twenty minutes. Car number four stops: a merry, breezy buggy steered by two guys – Spanish maybe, or Italian, Montenegrin, whatever, we don’t understand a word. Too loud. The wind constantly sneaking in under my skirt earns me an instant cystitis. After a 20-minute tour through salty Balearic air, my hair looks like a haystack. Even the numerous long drinks, in those days fairly low-priced at 20 German Marks, don’t manage to change my mood. Good thing that nowadays I know much better – the drinks will never be that cheap again!
Queremos ir a Playa d’en Bossa y acabar en... San Antonio.

SEA OF LOVE 2007 BIG FEELINGS AT TUNILAKE
GRANDES SENSACIONES EN TUNILAKE
Just like previous years, BigCityBeats will again go on tour in 2007 to present their Summer Clubbing facet to their loyal listeners: live and in colour. Islands Part I will be on the last week-end in June – one Sunday before, on the 24th of June, the tour will stop at the beautiful Tunilake in Freiburg. From 10 a.m., this recreational area in Baden-Wurttemberg will turn into the lake of big feelings, the Sea of Love.
The event that has a growing number of fans every year is already holding its sixth edition. It offers deluxe partying in a great open air location with beautiful scenery, bringing holiday feelings to the otherwise rather grey Germany - and all meteorological signs point to sunny skies. There will be a broad range of music, both Techno and House fans will be able to hit the dance floor. Since it’s such a top-class line-up, it wouldn’t make sense to talk about a special headliner – each one of them is a reason to pay a visit to the Sea of Love. Helmut Geier aka DJ Hell is coming from Berlin, just as DJ-colleague Monika Kruse and the Tiefschwarz brothers. Moonbootica and the Disco Boys arrive from Hamburg, and Moguai, the man responsible for the compilation CD for this year’s event, happily travels the 500 kilometres that separate his hometown Recklinghausen from the location. All these and many more will heat up the scantily clad crowd in the 10,000 square metre area and catapult them far from their daily routines. Let‘s not speak of the devil, but in case of rain there will be a big circus tent and various awnings and roofing for an area of 2,500 square meters, also providing shelter from the hot midday sun. Tickets for the event cost 21 plus on presale or 25 at the door. You‘ll find more information about this spectacle at

NATURE ONE 2007 A JOURNEY TO THE PROMISED 13TH LAND
UN VIAJE A LA 13ª TIERRA PROMETIDA.
It’s good to see that even in these fickle times when parades are cancelled, confirmed again, relocated and revived, while others cloak their mega events in secrecy, there are still events you can rely on.
One of these events is definitely the yearly open air festival NATURE ONE in Kastellaun, which already takes place for the 13th time. I-Motion, the promoters from Koblenz, also responsible for KaiserTanz, Ruhr-in-Love and recently for MAYDAY as well, know their craft and wouldn’t dare leave 50.000 disappointed ravers in the lurch on the first week-end of August.
And so everyone who upon leaving the rocket launching site in Pydna/ Hundsrück made a mental note of this year’s date can actually be looking forward to a top notch major event again. The line-up is as diversified as usual and so extensive that mentioning all attending artists would go beyond the scope of this text. Just in the so called Century Circus, the 8-master-tent in the centre of the whole area, top-class guests from all over the world like Adam Beyer, Guy Gerber, DJ Murphy or Lucca get together. The open air floor also offers nothing but the cream of the crop with names like Carl Cox, Judge Jules, Above & Beyond, Client, Paul van Dyk, Ferry Corsten or Armin van Buuren. House enthusiasts get their share in the “House of House” with the Disco Boys, Milk & Sugar, Phil Fuldner, Moonbootica, Malente and Karotte. Last year’s newborn “Classic Terminal” brings us Yves de Ruyter, Miss Djax, Tanith and Afrika Islam, while the tents and bunkers of the 17 club delegations will certainly offer even more. All of this and much more converts NATURE ONE, under this year’s motto “The thirteenth Land”, into a definite must go for the raving society. But it’s not only the event itself that attracts more people every year; it’s also everything that surrounds it. Apart from bungee jumping, food and shops, the camping ground in particular offers entertainment, amusement and the chance to meet people. Further information and tickets for the festival on www.nature-one.de. Additional presale at all CTS booking offices or calling the +49 (0)261 - 921 5840 hotline. A day pass for Friday or Saturday costs 41 EUR (presale) or 47 EUR (at the door). A festival pass for both days only costs 54 EUR or 62 EUR respectively.
62 EUR.

MINISTRY OF SOUND GERMANY MORE THAN JUST A MUSIC LABEL!
¡MÁS QUE UN SELLO DISCOGRÁFICO!
Almost everybody knows the famous in club logo: the crowned Disco ball with ‘Ministry of Sound’ wrapped around it. What started more than 15 years ago as a club in London/England has developed into a global brand in music and club culture. Nowadays different clubs all over the world have opened under the Ministry of Sound of Sound banner. Apart from the main club in London there are two more in Singapur and Taipeh; two more are going to open in Moscow and New Delhi/India. Furthermore there is a Radio-Show, TV station and – thanks to Stars like Eric Prydz, Bob Sinclar, DJ Badehose or David Guetta – a very successful record label. The German branch has also broadened its roster. Next to successful compilations and Artist-albums covering the whole range of Club music from Balearic Beats, to House and Chill-Out, Ministry of Sound now broadcasts its own live radio show (every Monday from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.) on Radio Sunshine. Since the 1st of April the Ministry of Sound vibe is also on the internet at www.ministryofsound.de. Apart from the latest releases members get exclusive upfront information and the improved features enable them to use this platform to chat, flirt or even physically talk.
The Canadian John Acquaviva has been on the top of the international DJ scene for years. Spinning the turntables since 1980, he first became famous when he and Richie Hawtin created the now legendary label Plus-8 in the late eighties. Acts like Speedy J, Kenny Larkin or Acquaviva and Hawtin themselves, under various pseudonyms, released milestones of electronic music on this label. Always a bit ahead of his time Acquaviva already started including MP3 technology in his sets around the Y2K and right after fascinates his fans with Final Scratch. He‘s generally quite fond of the MP3 format so much so that the three volumes of his compilation series “Electro Deluxe” are only available as downloads in all important online stores. However, soon the Canadian will present the Privilege CD he compiled and is published by BigCityBeats. But there is more to the relationship between this club and the proud BCB-family newcomer than a mixed CD: he’ll also host “Meganite” with Mauro Picotto every Wednesday this summer.

INTERVIEW: SVEN VÄTH HELLO SVEN, ANOTHER YEAR HAS PASSED... CAN’T WAIT TO START? Well for sure! We can’t wait to start, all people here are working hard since weeks to get it all prepared. We did a whole new campaign, incredible costumes, and we are very excited about how the people will take it! WHAT IS ‘FREAK SHOW’ ABOUT? Made by freaks for freaks... We opt for the people that have been coming to Ibiza for years, experienced clubbers that only find in Ibiza what they are looking for, in sound, vibe, decoration, the club itself and the whole craze around it. And I think I can say we are the mega-freaks... THIS YEAR A LOT OF PROMOTERS HAVE JUMPED ON THE ELECTRO-HOUSE-TRAIN, HOW DO YOU SEE THIS DEVELOPMENT? In the end this is a confirmation of what we’ve stood for for so many years. We are now entering the 8th season with Cocoon, and this movement started already 3 years ago when the first other promoters started to do a similar sound. When I look at Privilege for example, they have pretty similar sounds on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Maybe the one or the other does not know how difficult it is to really do a fine selection in between this sound of techno-electro-minimal, and that it kicks off straight away... We have our audience, they do not just love the sound, they identify with Cocoon in all its facets. 98
06/07
They know it comes straight from the heart, 150%... I hope it will not become an overkill, people will not pay 5 nights a week entrance fees to listen to similar sounds, definitely not. WHY IS COCOON DIFFERENT TO ALL THE OTHERS? Our thing is not just electronic music, we have superstars like Ricardo Villalobos, Ritchie Hawtin amongst others since the very beginning, but Cocoon is more, it is about the feeling, you need to transmit your spirit very clearly to get the best feedback from your crowd. Cocoon has a face, and this somehow is missing in some other nights. IT MIGHT BE THE LAST YEAR OF THE DAY-PARTIES, WHAT IS YOUR OPINION? What do you mean, the official Space parties etc? I did not know about this, to be honest... I find it very sad, Ibiza stands for a liberated way of partying, be it day or night, I remember the days of the open Space terrace, incredible parties were held there... This has changed in the last years, those clubs had to put a roof on their terraces, minimize the sound for the neighbours etc. It would also be very sad not to have Circo Loco happening during the day on Mondays, it is definitely a big part of Ibiza’s party face. Or imagine dancing on a beach in the sun, incredible! WE ALL ARE GETTING OLDER, LOTS OF TOP DJS REACH THEIR 40S... IS THERE NEW TALENTS COMING?
WE ALL AR GETTING OLDER, LOTS OF TOP DJS REACH THE 40’S, IS THERE NEW TALENTS COMING? There isa lot of new talents coming, but i think it is not really a question of age, it is like a good wine, you get better every year, you get more experienced and your musical background amplifies itself. I mean the ability to play different facettes in between the same sound, after so many years you can definitely reach another depth. Talking about newcomers let me mention Raresh, Chris Tietjen or even Magda. She is no newcomer any more, but her sound is fresh and she is incredibly active. So i see it very positive in general, the only question for me is if some of them have, let’s say, honest ambitions, or if they just want o make a lot of money, fly business class, live in 5star-hotels and get all the girls… It is no art to take the top 20 tracks of big Djs and play them yourself, the art is to filter the incredible amount of new releases and create your own style to reach the crowd. This is about authenticity, very fast you find out if a DJ lives what he is doing or not.

Or imagine dancing on a beach in the sun, incredible!
¿A qué te refieres?

KUMHARAS CD VOL. 5:
FABRIC35 – EWAN PEARSON:
BLIMINAL
With a backbone of beautiful ambients, its renowned ethnic touch, KUMHARAS vol.5, compiled by Swann (ELEA), brings you directly on a warm seashore, chilling out, watching the sun slowly sink into the sea. And you find yourself flying over the desert with ELEA and HYPNOTIZER, taking a ride to Asia with SHRI and NINBIMIMI, then on the heights of the Earth with ALTITUDES and so on… From dub with love!
Ewan Pearson tells a gripping, equivocal story; at times it’s moving with Aril Brikha, other times it ibrilliantly off-the-wall with Konrad Black, then it even twists and turns towards the adulterous with 1ooHZ, but, from beginning to the end, remains completely unpredictable. Pearson has crafted a wonderfully fluid mix, shifting from abrasive, percussive workouts to sublime, sparkling electronics with ease. Respect!
The subtitle says ‘an interchill compilation, and this is meant in its true meaning. Rare trax from Slackbaba, Moravec or Ishq make this CD a real collectors item. It may not be brandnew but it got shipped into our offices in last minute, maybe from outer space?? A perfect CD for those cosy afternoons on your terrace, a sunset on the beach with good friends like Maria + Johanna (ukwis!), or to spend a day in Atlantis...
DJ AWARDS 10TH ANNIVERSARY
UPSYDE DOWN - FLOOTING GROOVES
EAR PLEASURE
I can remember the early days when it all started. Thanks to José Pascual and Lenny Ibizarre this event grew and grew, and is today considered a must-be event at the end of each summer. To warm you up a bit they present a 10 year’s anniversary double CD including a DVD containing the best moments in history. Music is delivered by lots of great acts, amongst others there are highlights like Blaze, Afromedusa, Kings of Tomorrow, Antidote or Åme.
Upsyde Downe delivers a busy series of psychedelic aural environments where the quality or nature of the sound is of equal importance with any tunes being unfolded. There is an underlying global thread taken up by instruments such as the didgeridoo and ethnic percussives - but also the electronica itself has an exotic nature to it, unusual voices and tribal patterns thickening the spell.
Brain massage! Chill Tribe Records in Norway is back with a third release compiled by PKS bringing you the cream of talented downbeat, dub, ambient producers from around the world. As usual, Chill Tribe gathers several of the most sought after pioneers in the scene, this time exploring everything from deep ambient, dub to downbeat with psychedelic rock influences.

MUSIC ININA GAP – SOFTWARE SOCIETY
MASTURA – MASTER MARGHERITA
INDEX ID – ODYSSEE
A trip through the universe of pop meets clubsounds, some drum n’ bass influences melt with ambiental spheric grooves, leaving you with a big smile on your face. Best is to listen to it on repeat, about 4 times all through. We have another nightshift in our offices to finish this issue, and this CD was one of our winners... Respect from dub.
Mastura is the first Solo album of Master Margherita+friends. From conception to completion it has taken three years! Master Margherita’s composition style shows his “free thinking” application to his music, no code, just following the path of his feelings in the music he composes. The list of guest artists and producers was chosen at the beginning of 2006 and all the tracks were finalized during spring 2006.
Ralf Uhrlandt aka Index ID presents his third longplayer on Electrolux, and he seems to know exactly where he wants to go. A mix of Synthiepop, old days dub trance melodies meet violins, voices that seem to come from another space, but never loosing a context that is to bring you where you always wanted to be: in your inner self. WOW!
FORT KNOX FIVE – REMINTED
MAKOSSA + MEGABLAST – KUNUAKA
GUY GERBER – LATE BLOOMERS
With this release, FK5 dig into their vast remix vault to select 12 tracks to create a continuously-mixed DJ set that takes you on a journey through some of their favorite performances. Celebrated masters Tito Puente and Joe Bataan, overlap vibes with current dancefloor artists A. Skillz & Krafty Kuts, Dynamo Productions, Skeewiff and Ursula 1000, to name a few.
Kunuaka - the debut album by dynamic dub specialists Makossa & Megablast is breaking onto the airwaves like a sonic future shock, and looks set to propel the Austrian duo into the producers elite. Fusing Afro-electro vibes with organic grooves this album shows G Stone, their spiritual home, is still looking forward and bringing through the best of the next wave of producers.
Gerber is following up on his big successes with his debut longplayer, which promises to freshly meld house, techno and trance, but with its own sensibility which defies easy categorisation. Gerber includes his previous single ‘Seagull’, new versions of his 12”s ‘Sea of Sand’ and ‘Belly Dancing’ being released on Cocoon recordings, as well as nine new cuts on the album. Reschbeggt!
MASSIVAN – WIDE
AURAL FLOAT – BEAUTIFUL SOMEDAY
BEACHLAND – MADE IN IBIZA
Jazz meets pop meets acoustic chill meets experimental… sounds strange but is exactly what you can expect from the Blue Bar resident from Formentera. Apart from this you get clubby tracks like a coverversion of Diana Ross’ Now that you are gone, making this CD an ideal partner for an evening in a lounge of some afterhour on the beach.
Chill-pop… this is a combination of words merely used lately, but in this case it is really true. Gabriel le Mar, Alex Azary and Pascal FEOS deliver their third longplayer in already 10 years of existance as Aural Float, and it is definitely their best album so far. The sounds are so clear, you want to repeat it over and over again, hoping that the next longplayer will not take so long...
Miguel Vizcaino is responsible for this CD out of a long series of compilations reflecting the feeling we love so much... Tracks from Lisa Shaw, Notenshun, Kim English in a fantastic mix from Jon Cutler or the great Nikola Gala give you back what you might have lost on your way home, away from this little paradise… the smile on your face. Ideal collectors item and an even better flashback!

COCOON RECORDINGS – G
PHONIQUE – GOOD IDEA
SEBO K. - BACK UP VOL. 1
This one is the green one, as they are all held in different colours. I think the first one was yellow… Anyway, once again the crew around mastermind Sven Väth delivers a perfect product, bringing you soulful techno with this ambition to not be too technoid. My favourite is the first track from MyMy, Fast freeze, giving me goosepimpels of listening pleasure. A perfect proof that this sound is constantly evolving, towards eternity.
Phonique has taken an enormous step forward in the last few years. His pieces develop on many grounds and levels allowing a listener to discover them gradually, up to the state of final enchantment. It doesn’t matter if it’s pop, electro, swinging jazz, hip hop or Spanish flamenco, Vater puts his notes together with the highest proficiency. To describe it in a few words could be ‘minimal meets house meets techno meets melodies’. More!
Sebo K. is one mastermind behind the Mobilee record crew, presenting us a wonderful melange of deep tech, house, minimal, groovy sexy always. In a perfect mix as usual, this CD screams for more, giving you this unforgettable smile on your face you always had after a fantastic nught out. Press repeat and come again
QUARKLAB – LAB1
MONZA CLUB IBIZA – COMPILATION VOL. 2
SENDOS FUERA - THE TRUE FACE OF HOUSE
Very intelligent sounds in some endless mixes (the longest is 18:34 minutes!) leave you behind in a world of technoid sounds, influenced by old days warm trance melodies, covered in warm synthie sounds that seem to come from the other part of the universe. Manuel Estevez, Pedro Escandell, Willie Buetas and Javier Ferrer deliver this fantastic compilation. With love!
Two of modern electronic music’s most respected label-heads and DJs come together to furnish Get Physical with a double-CD compilation of impeccable taste and inarguable quality: two mixes that go way deep and provide numerous exclusives, without losing their sense of timelessness and fun. And as they are well experienced when it comes to know what the ibizencan crowd wants to hear they do exactly what they should – to make you dance, baby!
Ernesto Altes + Guillermo Morro present their first complete longplayer on s’Hort Records. A fantastic mix of classic house tracks, melting together all the ingredients a modern kitchen has to offer. Warm sounds, deep grooves, beautiful voices and incredible spheres leave you behind with this typical smile on your face when you know you just had a perfect dinner… Big respect from dub!
SHUT UP AND DANCE! – UPDATED
SA TRINXA BEACH SESSIONS VOLUME 1
ISLANDS – BALEARIC SUNDOWN SESSIONS
A very ambitious project bringing together big stars like Luciano and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, creating a mix of sounds that was not heard up to today. Fantastic chillout, deepest house, classic strings and spherical sounds make you dive into another world, trying to bring together two worlds that seem to be so different – but they are not!
Mixed by good fellow Dieter sin Plomo, this CD transmits our beloved Sa Trinxa feel perfectly, bringing us back to this unique beach in the south of Ibiza. Easiest beats meet beautiful voices, spherical grooves lull you into a deeper universe you can only reach if you got to know this unique spot at least once in your life!
Islands is a already very succesful series of easy listening sounds, taking you by the hand to take you on a journey through deep grooves, friendly beats, most eclectic strings in order to make you swing, wherever you are. At home on your sofa, a nice beach club, the terrace of a beautiful finca in Ibiza or wherever you like to dream of this wonderful holiday you just get back into your mind.

VINYL REVIEWS 06.07 K3 – PLAY TO WIN – RADIOSLAVE DUB Whatever this guy touches becomes a real killer. Strange enough that he never produced a track himself, no, he is mister remix himself. A track that builds up slooowly, culminating in something that can only be described as an attack on your dance genes. Ideal to build up a night, best just after a mellow warm-up to prepare the crowd for what is there to come.
IBITRONIC – SA VEIT Maurizio Begotti, Max Lanfranconi and Hofer66 sign responsible for this very first release as ‚Ibitronic’ and it seems like they found the right ingredients for a real classic. It is always the same story, if you sit together in the studio and all are talking the same language and heve the same roots, something good will come out. Sounds from oldschool trance meet Harthouse-style acid melodies meet phattest beats, accompanied by sweet melodies. Highly addictive!
DJ T – JAM POT Thomas Koch aka DJ T is finally on the search for the ultimate groove, best proof is this release. It builds up quite simple, but the rhythms are so well elaborated that you automatically start to move. Then comes the melody, and this grin creeps up your face, and you just want to do one thing – play it again! And again…
KRAMER – SONNE IST DA Sonne ist da means the sun is here, if you start to listen to the track it seems quite melancholic, but when all of a sudden this sweetest melody comes in you can not resist to feel good. Best played on 124, a cool warm-up is guaranteed, or for a sophisticated crowd you can even play it at peak time. WOW!

SOLOMUN + STIMMING – FEUERVOGEL RMX
believe that this works together. Well, let me tell you: it does work.
Wow, wow, wow… The strange thing about this track is that some do not like it at all, but most completely adore it. Like i do… A melody that could come out of a real classic meets most easy grooves, a beat that is impossible to resist, and when the big break comes and seems to end the track, just before it comes back again, leaving the crowd breathless.
JEFF SAMUEL – LOST
PABLO BOLIVAR – WORLD COMMUNICATION This spanish producer is a real killer, he seems to have found the holy grail to help him mix a perfect deep house track. His sounds are so well elaborated, it is pure pleasure to listen to each one of them, and his latest release follows the same line. A perfect build-up, followed by most beautiful melodies, leaving you behind with a broken heart full of joy. Sounds strange? Well, try it out yourself.
DENNIS FERRER – SON OF RAW (LOCODICE REMIX) And again and again and again… Locodice is magic, that is for sure. This track has all ingredients to become a summer’s anthem, builds up quite minimal, to then become a real balearic monster. It got a bit of everything, ldschool trance meets minimal meets tech-house meets ‚shake that booty’. Go get it where ever you can, on vinyl it is really rare… But not impossible to find.
BOOKA SHADE – KARMA CAR Those two guys are the brain of Get Physical, and with their own releases they always crown their work. So groovy, so positive, so tribal, impossible not to move. And when the man’s chords come in you are about to say ‚I can not
I am sure he is not as half as lost as this track’s name, he knows exactly what to do in order to make you dance. Not a peak-time track, but house for adults. Close your eyes and let him take you into a world of arabian ambiental sounds behind a solid beat, tribal grooves and spherical strings. Killer!
ERIK PRYDZ – ARMED Something for primetime? Here it comes, a stomper hard to resist, for all thos of you liking it a bit more spicy. Perfect setup meets sirenes, meets ‚kick-your-ass’, leaving you behind breathless. In urge to get more. Best played at 128 – 132, everybody who stays besides the dancefloor should immediately leave the club. Basta.
MYMY – FAST FREEZE The title is not what will happen to you, it is the other way round. You will immediately fall in love with this track, and everybody who knows MYMY will really enjoy thisa killertrack, as it is for me their very best one. Influenced by the sun, the sea, the clubs in the south of Europe and, first of all, by a hell of a lot of experience. Please more of this style, guys!
RAZ OHARA – WHITMEY YA (RAZ INSTRUMENTAL) Completely crazy track, starts harmless but drills your ears and melts in your brain like good old vinyl in the mediterranean sun. The melody is so schizophrenic and completely off the hook, you will love it straight away. It is one of those tracks that are so unique to become a classic straight away.

“THE WORLD WE CREATED IS A PRODUCT OF OUR THINKING, IT CANNOT BE CHANGED WITHOUT CHANGING OUR THINKING.” TEXT: WILLIAM DE WORDE
There are moments in the life of a journalist where you think this is something you have to write about, and as my big model William de Worde from a book of Terry Pratchett said: ‚there is nothing worse in this world than a journalist that can not speak free’... So i will try to find the right words for the headline that crowned the ‚Diario de Ibiza’ on the 8th of June, telling that 2 of the big clubs and another beachclub will be closed for ‚tolerating the sales and consume of drugs’ inside their businesses for 1 – 2 months. First of all i want to say that i totally agree that any abuse or ignorance of the consume of drugs that can have lethal consequences has to be condemned. No doubt. But... Let’s cut the bullshit and be honest, it is like in the bible, as Jesus said ‚Who is free of guilt can throw the first stone’, and there is nothing worse in this world than hipocracy. To close down those 3 places and threaten the others is like just watching one side of the medal, and ignoring the other. For sure there has to be found a solution to get this problem under control, but what i really do not understand after living 11 years in this country is the spanish way of thinking, just black and white. All or nothing? This will never work out... 116

Since the end of prohibition so many ears ago it is completely legal to drink as much as you can take, as long as you have enough money to pay for it in any gastronomic place in this world. Or you can go to any supermarket or gasstation and carry out big bags of more or less high voltage alcoholic beverages. That is one side of the problem. The other is all the numberless jobs that are threatened by this decision, and to say that this whole machinery is focused on enticing people to get wasted is as false as it can be. Let’s first just focus on the people being directly involved, there might be around 500 to loose their jobs, wherever they came from to contribute in one or the other way. From the cleaning personel to the promoters, the consequences are unpredictable. Not to mention the amount of people that work in their country to promote our island. Or at least one part of this little paradise, the nightlife with all its colours. Tourists?? From the estimated 1.2 million tourists at least 60% come to Ibiza to live their passion for electronic music, and all those who pretend to believe that music and drugs are unseperately connected are basically wrong. Sorry, but if those would open their minds and hearts, they could see the enormous effort, absolute dedication
UPDATE and professionality of the biggest part of all people involved in this peaceful movement. It is not for nothing that this style of music with all its philosophy behind it is constantly evolving and became one of the biggest musical movements ever, and there is no end in sight. And, as the ‚Diaro de Ibiza’ said, it is a wonder that with a minimum of 15.000 partypeople walking through a club in 24 hours there is ‚just’ 11 incidents happening in Can Misses, Ibiza’s main hospital. Let’s face it, this is the wrong way, the solution is not to cut off the tail of a deadly poisonous animal, if not its head in order to survive. The so-called democratic and tolerant society should be able to deal with its problems in a different way, just as Einstein said: “The world we created is a product of our thinking, it cannot be changed without changing our thinking.” I could get very philosophic now, but this is not what i want to say, i only ask for communication, to sit together and work out why people come to this island to keep it attractive for all kinds of tourists, whatever effort it might take. And that a good part of the problem is maybe not our attitude here in Ibiza if not in the countries where all those come from
to forget their sorrows for a short period, go out and dance the night away. And that they can find anywhere any possible substance to burn their brains is not a problem of the clubs but our whole society. The solution? We, the free spirits, should break up the ignorance and work on educating everybody towards more self-res ponsibility, to learn how precious life can be if you are conscious of what you do, to be able to smile in the mirror and faces of others, and respect one another. I could go on forever, but let’s finish with the imaginary picture of the typical party-tourist that comes to Ibiza, not being able to go to some of the world’s best clubs, and in daytime one can not even go to the beach and have a swim, because it’s all full of medusas. Would you come back to Ibiza? P.S: This was a complete very last minute entry in dub magazine, so there was no time to correct my english or, even worse, to translate it. 06/07
