2011 - supposedly one of the best years for our island so far - despite the crisis rolling over Spain like a firestorm everybody here on the island is more than excited about the rising number of bookings. Already june had an increase of up to 30% in the occupation of hotels and especially Ibiza town is having a rush. Let’s see how the season will progress but i am sure this will be the year of proof if Ibiza can stand up to the high expectations - and there is exactly the point where i guess a few things need to be clarified...

2011, se supone que uno de los mejores años para nuestra isla en los últimos tiempos. A pesar de la crisis que arrasa España como si fuera una tormenta de fuego, aquí todos están contentos por el aumento de reservas. Ya en junio la ocupación ha subido un 30% en los hoteles y en la ciudad de Ibiza ya es hora punta. Habrá que ver cómo progresa esta temporada, pero estoy seguro que este será el año que demostrará si Ibiza puede hacer frente a las altas expectativas, y supongo que llegado este punto hay que clarificar algunas cosas.

This rush is not caused by us being so much better than the years before - the main reason is simply caused by other countries being at war and political change like the whole arab world - that makes a quality tourism impossible and people will not take the risk to spend their hard-earned money in those countries.

Esta demanda no es fruto de una mejora sustancial por nuestra parte respecto a años anteriores, la razón principal es sencilla: hay otros países en guerra y el cambio político en el mundo árabe hace que el turismo de calidad no se desplace hasta allí; la gente no se arriesgará a gastar el dinero que tanto les ha costado ganar en esos países.

This is the year where lots of tourists will come back after a long break or visit the island for the first time and do not know anything about it, right now right here we have a unique chance to make those people happy and satisfied so they will mark Ibiza in their holiday calendar in a lovely red colour for the future.

Este es el año en que muchos turistas volverán tras un largo descanso o visitarán la isla por primera vez y no saben nada de ella. Ahora mismo tenemos una oportunidad única de hacer feliz y satisfacer a esta gente para que marquen Ibiza en su calendario vacacional en color rojo pasión para el futuro.

We have to be very aware of this fact and can not take things for granted, thinking that people will pay any price is the wrong way to prove that we are one of the world’s best holiday locations. Ibiza is NOT Saint Tropez or Miami - and will never be. Ibiza stands for a unique mix of Artists, Freaks, Neohippies, Celebrities, Partyanimals and other not so excentric species living alongside in harmony and peace. We do not have to prove anything, we simply have to preserve what we got and improve in terms of service and hostility, and charging a worthy price for it is the key to success. And when do we finally accept that this is a small island and can not be exploited to the maximum, it can not be that we still build more and more and expand our infrastructure to maximize the profits of a few at the cost of quality of life for all of us living here. If we work on improving and optimizing on what we have we will be safe for the next decades and people will love to come as Ibiza is strategically perfect, you can fly over from anywhere in Europe in less than 3 hours. Let’s not waste this chance in hard times like these, paradise is right in front of our eyes, we just have to appreciate it.

Tenemos que estar muy atentos a este hecho y no podemos darlo todo por sentado; pensar que la gente pagará cualquier precio es la forma errónea de demostrar que somos uno de los mejores lugares para ir de vacaciones. Ibiza NO es Saint Tropez o Miami y nunca lo será. Ibiza representa una mezcla única de artistas, fanáticos, neohippies, famosos, enfermos de fiesta y otras especies menos excéntricas con las que convivimos en paz y harmonía. No tenemos que demostrar nada, simplemente tenemos que conservar lo que tenemos y mejorar en términos de servicio y hostilidad, y la clave del éxito es establecer precios justos. ¿Cuándo aceptaremos definitivamente que esta isla es pequeña y no podemos explotarla al máximo? No puede ser que sigamos construyendo más y más y expandamos nuestras infraestructuras para potenciar al máximo los beneficios de unos cuantos a costa de la calidad de vida de todos los que vivimos aquí. Si trabajamos para mejorar y sacar más partido a lo que tenemos estaremos a salvo las próximas décadas y a la gente le encantará venir ya que Ibiza es estratégicamente perfecta: se puede volar aquí desde cualquier parte de Europa en menos de tres horas. No malgastemos esta oportunidad en tiempos difíciles como los actuales. Tenemos el paraíso justo delante de nuestros ojos, solo tenemos que apreciarlo.

It is sad but true that we human beings need massive tragedies to realize what is going on around us. The latest one was the earthquake in Japan that culminated in the demolition of several nuclear powerplants in Fukushima and the contamination of a whole country for decades.

Es triste pero cierto que el ser humano necesita grandes desgracias para darse cuenta de lo que sucede a su alrededor. La última ha sido el terremoto en Japón, que culminó con la demolición de varios reactores nucleares en Fukushima y la contaminación de todo un país durante décadas. A lo largo de días y semanas todos los canales de televisión siguieron en directo la destrucción que provocó el terremoto y la posterior inundación que arrasó con incontables poblaciones y dejó a miles de personas sin hogar. Pero lo peor aún estaba por llegar. Las centrales nucleares no estaban preparadas para tamaño impacto. Se construyeron junto al mar en un lugar conocido por su peligrosidad en caso de terremoto... Pasadas dos semanas el suceso dejó de ser noticia y ya no le importaba a nadie, pero tuvo un impacto tan grande que países como Alemania empezaron a plantearse seriamente el abandono gradual de la energía nuclear. De repente es posible eliminar las centrales nucleares del mapa energético e ir por un camino alternativo que garantice el suministro eléctrico con energías renovables; incluso empresas como Shell o BP han empezado a invertir en ellas. Durante años nos hicieron creer que el petróleo y la energía nuclear eran la única manera de generar suficiente combustible y energía para abastecer a todo el planeta.

For days and weeks all channels broadcasted live the whole process of the devastating earthquake followed by a flood that destroyed numberless villages and left thousands of people without their homes. But the worst was there to come, the nuclear plants were not prepared for an impact that strong, they were built next to the sea on a place known for its dangerous setting when it would come to an eartquake... After two weeks the news stopped and nobody took notice any more, but the impact was so strong that countries like Germany started to seriously discuss the nuclear phaseout. All of a sudden it is possible to take the plants off the electric grid and start an alternative way to guarantee the supply with renewable energies. Even companies like Shell or BP start now to invest in renewable energies, for years they made us believe that petrol and nuclear power are the only ways to generate enough fuel and energy to supply the whole planet. But the question is why they do it now? The reason is as simple as it can be - because it starts to be profitable. Anybody who thinks they changed their mind for a good cause is an idealist, sorry to say that but it is true. Another example is the explosion of the oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico, it seems like it never happened only because it is off the news, but the aftermaths are as terrible as they can be. To think that we can go on like we did during the last 50 years is coming to an end very soon, like it or not. Wherever the climate change comes from or how ever we contribute to it does not matter at all, it is not a question of not being so bad but a question of doing the best we can, and this starts with each one of us. People united can never be divided is the most effective way to show that we have the power, not the few that still dream their dream of world domination. We can never dominate this or any other planet, we are just tiny creatures given an intellect that could make us the most worthy creature on earth, instead we have nothing better to do than feeding our ego on any cost. But the price will be very high, if we do not stop to waste our lifes we will be banned from paradise and after a few years only our useless infrastructures will still be testimony of this frenzy we live. You may think why we publish this article in a small magazine that is supposed to give you a good time while your stay in Ibiza - i can tell you why because all of us can start any day to do better: stop throwing your fag out of the car window, reuse the plastic bags for your next shopping tour, help maintaining our beaches clean by taking your litter with you when you leave, buy organic food, seperate your waste and put down the aircon. How does Stimming say in his latest track: When do the days get better? When you decide them to get better. Sounds too simple for you? Then maybe you did not dig deep enough into your consciousness. Don’t stay a victim of mass manipulation and start to be responsible for your every day actions, together we can make a difference, and if we all do it then we will even satisfy our authorities because they then can finally produce consumer products that do not harm our planet and still make their profits.

Pero la pregunta es: ¿por qué ahora? La razón no puede ser más sencilla: porque empieza a ser rentable. El que crea que han cambiado de idea por una buena causa es un idealista. Siento ser tan claro, pero es la triste realidad. Otro ejemplo es la explosión en la plataforma petrolífera del golfo de México; parece que no haya pasado porque ya no sale en las noticias, pero las consecuencias son tan terribles como las que más. Pensar que podemos seguir viviendo como lo hemos hecho los últimos cincuenta años se acaba y pronto, nos guste o no. Venga de donde venga el cambio climático o cómo contribuimos al mismo importa poco. No es cuestión de no ser tan malos, sino de hacerlo lo mejor posible, y hay que empezar a nivel individual. La gente unida jamás será vencida es la mejor forma de demostrar que el poder es nuestro y no de los pocos que aún sueñan con dominar el mundo. Nunca dominaremos este ni cualquier otro planeta. Solo somos criaturas pequeñas que gozamos del don de la inteligencia, cosa que nos podría convertir en las criaturas más valiosas de la Tierra. Y, sin embargo, nos empeñamos en alimentar nuestro ego a cualquier precio. Pero el precio será muy alto. Si no dejamos de malgastar nuestras vidas se nos prohibirá la entrada al paraíso y al cabo de unos años nuestras inútiles infraestructuras seguirán ahí cual testigos de esta vida frenética. Os preguntaréis por qué publicamos este artículo en una revista pequeña que se supone que tiene que contribuir a vuestra diversión mientras estáis en Ibiza. Os diré porqué: porque cada uno de nosotros puede empezar a cambiar algo. No tiréis la colilla del cigarrillo por la ventanilla del coche, reutilizad las bolsas de plástico en la próxima compra, ayudad a mantener las playas limpias llevándoos la basura cuando os vayáis, comprad productos ecológicos, separad los residuos y apagad el aire acondicionado. Como dice Stimming en su último tema: “¿Cuándo llegarán días mejores? Cuando tú decidas mejorarlos.” ¿Os parece simplista? Entonces quizá no habéis ahondado lo suficiente dentro de vuestra conciencia. No sigáis siendo víctimas de la manipulación de masas y empezad a ser responsables de lo que hacéis a diario. Juntos podemos cambiar las cosas. Y si lo hacemos todos quizá logremos satisfacer a las autoridades ya que por fin podrán producir productos para los consumidores que no dañen nuestro planeta y a la vez obtener beneficios. 5.1

of options, we recommend the Croissant Show, from 07:30 on you can get your caffeine dose and the finest patisseries… In Sunset Café not only can you have a relaxed coffee, snack, juice or whatever, but you can also choose from different delicatessens to take away - We are family... On the backside, facing the old town wall, you will find Out of Time People, not just breakfast but a real spiritual encounter! If you want to have a good valued and filling breakfast you can go to Buenissimo in Vara de Rey, always packed and just as good! You’re staying somewhere outside Ibiza town? In Jesus you have to try the Bon Lloc or the San Francisco on the road to Talamanca on the left side. Cana Negreta on the road to Sta. Eulalia offers you Bar Toni, coffee for 1 Euro! In Sta. Eulalia you should visit the Croissant Show or the El Puntal in the Puerto Deportivo, or the Café Sidney inside the port of Eulalia. San Carlos hosts the classic Bar Anita, THE reference for breakfast, bocadillos, tapas etc… San Juan is just as original, there the place is called Vista Alegre, or try Eco with their new fantastic restaurant. In San Lorenzo La Paloma is where you should go, not just good breakfast but a fantastic brunch and buffet as well! In San Miguel you have to visit the ‘Café of the false teeth’ in the market place, coffee for 85 cents! Sta. Gertrudis, still my favourite, offers savoury breakfasts from 08.00h at Can Partit or fancy Musset, good breakfast, breads and midday menus are back. If you stay in San Antonio you should visit the very end of the port, there you find the Café des Port, best food at best prices. Or try Kumharas in the west end, they stay open the whole day, with breakfast, lunch, exotic dinner and unique Ibiza Spirit. In San Rafael you should try the Bar Cruce, THE place for a strong coffee and more. Sta. Ines offers the famous Bar Cosmi, not just for Breakfast. You Broke-your-fast? Then let’s go and get some sun. If you are into sunbathing be very very careful, don’t stay too long or use high quality sun protection or your holiday can become a nightmare! In Salinas my first choice was, is and will always be Sa Trinxa, unique crowd, balearic beats and high quality food… and try the Sangria! Jockey Club, the adjacent Malibu and Guaraná are beautiful spots as well. In Es Cavallet, on the other side of Salinas,

you can find the refurbished Es Cavallet Chiringuito or the Chiringuay further down the beach, the latter is home to the more colourful crowd - a dream! In Playa d’en Bossa you find hot spots in its true sense, starting with Delano - fashionable music, cocktails and more - La Plage by l’Elephant is just as cool and the new ultrsastylish Ushuaia Beach Hotel is just as hot… Nassau Beach is high quality service at a high price – but worth it. On the very end you find Coco Beach – my tip is the Currywurst! And Bora Bora just goes on and on and on…! If you like to sunbath and party have a look as well on the Club Punta Arabi in Es Canar, tuesdays the guys from The Pleiadians have an incredible line-up. Enough tourists? Cala d’Hort offers the view to the legendary Es Vedra, 360 meters of magnetic rock – a must. Sa Caleta is a dream for bathing, as is Es Codolar behind the airport with the Macao Café on the rocks. It is situated on a pebble beach, but has crystal clear water – dogs are welcome! Cala Jondal presents Yemanja and Tropicana for food, Blue Marlin for drinks - very fashion and perfect to spot, see and be seen. San Antonio is massive, but you have to know where to go. A must is still Café del Mar or the Golden Buddha round the corner, not to forget Kumharas (once more), truly the best sunsets, a place you cannot miss to find the authentic Ibiza. Cala Moli is a secret tip, after San Antonio head south, follow the signs, it is worth the search! Cala Xarraca high up in the north is a must-see as well, or Cala Benirras next to San Miguel, once home to the legendary drum festival… BUT DO NOT WONDER, DUE TO THE HELL FIRE WE HAD NOT LONG AGO MORE THAN 1500 HECTARES OF LAND GOT BURNED UP THERE IN THE NORTH... Aguas Blancas on the way to San Vicente is a perfect spot to take a dip, best water and relatively few people. One real secret tip is the El Bigote in the Cala Mastella (after San Carlos head north and follow the signs), the best seafood of your life. Between Sta. Eulalia and Jesus comes Cala Llonga, follow the signs to Amante (Ex Sol d’en Serra), a hidden spot surrounded by rocks, a perfect restaurant, best to relax and chill… We must not forget s’Estanyol, go half way from Jesus to Talamanca, take a left up the mountain and then follow the sign down to the beach, a spot to disconnect and recharge your batteries…

SHOPPING? For sure, you are on holiday! The price range is

enormous, but all named here are worth a visit: Las Dalias just before San Carlos is home to the one and only Hippie market, here everybody finds something really original. For leather you should go to Darío Bomé in San Miguel, see Manfred Postel’s shop in Sta. Ines or visit Te Cuero in Sta. Gertrudis. For souvenirs and fashion go to Histericcompliments on Vara de Rey. You can find all sport brands cheap in La Sirena, there are lots on the island. You should visit the old town of Ibiza, this is the real Ibiza, you just have to look around! Hippychic is another secret tip; you can find it in three places: c/Ses Figueres in Talamanca, Cala Vadella and the Dalt Villa in c/ Santa Cruz. In Fashion Pirate on the Vara de Rey you can get quality fashion for a reasonable price, as well as in the Elements from Ibiza shop just next door. 50 meters to the right you find Uma y Leopold, designer fashion for the stylish! A complete different experience is the Vicente Ganesh in the Marina, vintage second hand designer clothings and incredible accessoires are just a few things to explore. The price spiral in Ibiza is very widespread, there are no limits. Possibilities for 12

There are so many incredibly good restaurants we can not mention because of the lack of space, but here are some of the best ones: Power food is available in various places such as Es Tap Nou in the center of Ibiza, fresh veggies and fruits become your juice or salad of the day. Next alternative is Pasión in Playa d’en Bossa, homemade dishes and juices of all kind will refill your batteries. Cheap, good, fresh and fast? Comida San Juan and Los Pasajeros in Ibiza Town next to the Plaça del Parque. Fresh fish? Hotel La Marina in the port. High quality french and international food? Pastis on the backside of the Plaça del Parque - a must. The Sushipoint in Marina Botafoch is a hotspot for sushi, as is Wok&Roll in Sta. Gertrudis. Want some real Indian food? Try the Ancient People on the Avenida España, best food for best price, and the Dahl is a must! Thai food is available at its best in Bambuddha Grove on the road to San Juan or at the Banyan Palace on the San José – San An road. Last but NOT least try Casa Thai 2 on Avda. Best Jamon Serrano-Bocadillo? Bar Costa in Sta. Gertrudis. The s’Altra Banda, also in Sta. Gertrudis, offers best fusion food. German food by the seaside? Café Sydney in Marina Botafoch is a classic for all lovers, this year they offer music played by DJs on all 7 days of the week as well. La Luna Nell’ Orto in San Miguel is one of the most authentic restaurants of all times. It is situated where the first hippie market in Ibiza used to be held! In Sta. Eulalia we recommend SomiArt by Foc y Fum on the esplanade, not just perfect food but performances in a special surrounding – a must. Casa Colonial on the road to Sta. Eulalia is a real escape in another world, best fusion food and service! In Km5 on the road to San Jose you can have fantastic meat in a unique atmosphere, a real trip. A great escape is the BHS (BoutiqueHotelSalinas) just after the roundabout of Salinas, high-quality tasty food in a beautiful setting, and if you can’t drive afterwards you got a room offered for 40 euros, if available – killer! The Es Tanco in San Rafael serves the best ‘Entraña’ (Argentinean cut of meat) on the island. If you want to eat a REAL chicken you have to go to Can Balafia on the road to San Juan, you’ve never tried one like this before, all homemade, from the potatoes over their very own chicken to their Hierbas. In San Antonio we have to mention Kumharas again and again, finest fusion food flavoured with easy beats. They opened another restaurant called Mumak with mediterrasian food opposite Fun Café in Playa d’en Bossa, we from dub wish all the best! Sta. Eulalia is home to Es Rickshaw, which also does fusion food at a good price! Expensive and worth it? Sa Capella up in San Antonio, El Ayoun, Clodenis and L’Elephant in San Rafael, Las dos Lunas on the Ibiza – San An road or Ama Lur by the Sta. Gertrudis roundabout. Definitely Atzaró on the San Juan road Km15, you never saw a garden more beautiful and the food is excellent. You prefer fast food? The Huehner Karl in Sta. Si quieres ‘des-ayunar’ en Ibiza tienes varios sitios donde elegir, seguimos recomendando el Croissant Show. Desde las 7:30 en adelante puedes conseguir tu dosis de cafeína y la mejor bollería… en el Sunset Café no sólo puedes relajarte con un café, aperitivo, cerveza o lo que sea, también puedes elegir entre una gran variedad de productos gourmet para llevar. Somos parte de la familia… En la parte de atrás, mirando la muralla, encontrarás el Out of Time People, ¡no sólo un desayuno sino un verdadero encuentro espiritual! Si quieres un desayuno barato y que te llene (alto en calorías) puedes ir al Buenissimo en Vara de Rey, ¡siempre lleno e igual de bueno! ¿Estas fuera de la ciudad de Ibiza? En Jesús tienes que visitar el Bon Lloc o el San Francisco en la calle Talamanca. Cana Negreta en la Carretera de Sta. Eulalia te propone el Bar Toni, ¡café por 1 euro! En Sta. Eulalia deberías visitar el Croissant Show, El Puntal en el Puerto Deportivo o el Cafe Sidney dentro del puerto. San Carlos te ofrece el clásico de los clásicos - Bar Anita, punto de referencia para desayunos, bocadillos, tapas y más.… San Juan es aún más original, allí el lugar se llama Vista Alegre, o el Eco con su nuevo restaurante. En San Lorenzo deberías probar la Paloma, no sólo ofrece buenos desayunos, ¡también hacen fantásticos almuerzos y buffets! En San Miguel tienes que visitar el ‘Café de las dentaduras postizas’ en el mercado, ¡café por 85 céntimos! Sta. Gertrudis sigue siendo mi favorito, ofrece sabrosos desayunos desde las 8:00 en Can Partit o Musset, están de vuelta los desayunos, panes y menús a mediodía. Si estás alojado en San Antonio por equivocación o reservaste un hotel ahí deberías visitar el Café des Port al final del puerto, la mejor comida al mejor precio. O te vas al Kumharas en el lado oeste, están abiertos todo el día…con desayunos, almuerzos, cenas exóticas y puro espíritu ibicenco. En San Rafael deberías probar el Bar Cruce, es EL lugar para un café cargadito y más. Sta. Ines ofrece el famoso Bar Cosmi, no sólo para desayuno.

A TOMAR EL SOL! Si te gusta ten cuidado, no te expongas

tanto tiempo al sol y protegete bien con una buena crema solar! En Salinas mi primera elección era, es y siempre será Sa Trinxa, la mejor gente, música y comida de gran calidad - ¡y tienes que probar la sangría! El Jockey Club, el Malibu y el Guaraná al lado también son lugares muy bonitos, la mejor comida y bebida acompañada de música de ambiente. En Es Cavallet, al otro lado de las Salinas, encuentras el recien renovado El Chiringuito o bajando más por la playa el Chiringuay, este último es donde se junta la gente más pintoresca. ¡Un sueño! En Playa d’en Bossa se encuentran múltiples lugares bonitos, por ejemplo el Delano,

música de moda, cócteles y más, La Plage de l’Elephant es igual de cool y el nuevo super estiloso Ushuaia Beach Hotel igual de ardiente, el Nassau Beach es alta calidad por altos precios – pero vale la pena. Al final encuentras Coco Beach, yo recomiendo la Currywurst… ¡Y el Bora Bora sigue y sigue y sigue…! Otro sitio perfecto para tomar el sol y escuchar buena musica es el Club Punta Arabi en Es Canar, los martes hay fiesta de Los Pleiadians con un line-up increible. Cala d’Hort te ofrece la vista a la legendaria Es Vedra, 360 metros de roca magnética… Sa Caleta es un sueño para bañarse, al igual que Es Codolar, detrás del aeropuerto, con el Macao Café “on the rocks”. Está situado en una playa de piedras, pero el agua es cristalina – y se puede venir con perros! Cala Jondal presenta el Yemanja, el Blue Marlin y el Tropicana, todos muy fashion y perfecto para relajarse, ver y ser visto. San Antonio es muy grande, pero tienes que saber muy bien donde ir. Un sitio que no te debes perder es el Café del Mar o el Golden Buddha a la vuelta de la esquina, y no hay que olvidar Kumharas (de nuevo), obligatorio para las mejores puestas de sol, ¡¡un lugar que no te puedes perder para encontrar el verdadero Ibiza!! Cala Moli es un consejo secreto - después de San Antonio, en dirección norte, sigue las indicaciones, ¡merece el trabajo que cuesta buscarlo! Cala Xarraca en la punta norte es otro sitio que deberías visitar aunque despues del fuego esta bastante quemado, o Cala Benirras al lado de San Miguel, donde antes se celebraba el legendario festival de tambores… NO TE ASUSTES CUANDO VAS POR EL NORTE, DEBIDO AL TERRIBLE INCENDIO SE HAN QUEMADO MAS DE 1500 HECTARES ALLI ARRIBA ENTRE SAN JUAN Y PORTINATX... Aguas Blancas, de camino a San Vicente es el sitio perfecto para pararse y darse un baño, la mejor agua y relativamente poca gente. Entre Sta. Eulalia y Jesús está Cala Llonga, de aquí sigue las indicaciones a Amante (ex Sol d’en Serra), el restaurante perfecto escondido entre las rocas, lo mejor para relajarse… No nos olvidemos de s’Estanyol, mitad de camino entre Talamanca y Jesús, gira a la izquierda subiendo la montanya y luego sigue los carteles hasta la playa.Un lugar para desconectar y recargar las pilas…

¿Vamos de compras? Claro que sí, ¡estás de vacaciones! Nombrar todos los sitios es imposible así que haremos nuestra selección: Justo antes de San Carlos te encuentras con Las Dalias que es donde está el único mercado hippy, ahí todo el mundo encuentra algo realmente original. Para cosas de cuero deberías ir a Darío Bomé en San Miguel, a la tienda de Manfred Postel en Sta. Ines o a Te Cuero en Sta. Gertrudis, para souvenirs y moda a Histericcompliments en Vara del Rey. En la Sirena encuentras todas las marcas deportivas a buen precio, hay muchas en la isla. Deberíais visitar D’alt Villa de Ibiza, esa es la verdadera Ibiza, ¡sólo tienes que mirar a tu alrededor! Hippychic es otro consejo secreto; hay tres en la isla que se encuentran en c/Ses Figueres en Talamanca, Cala Vadella y en el Dalt Villa en la c/ Santa Cruz. En Fashion Pirate en Vara de Rey puedes comprar artículos de moda por un precio razonable, igual que en el nuevo elements from ibiza al lado. A 50 metros a la derecha encuentras Uma y Leopold, moda de diseño muy guapa. Una experiencia diferente es Vicente Ganesh en la

Marina, moda vintage de segunda mano y accessorios increibles aparte de otras joyas. La espiral de precios en Ibiza está muy extendida, no hay límites, ejemplos de las posibilidades de compras extremas son: Heaven en Marina Botafoch, el NIC en Vara del Rey, o EGB en la c/ Bartolomé Rossello. Tambien contamos con las cadenas grandes gracias a la UE, primera entrada es la nueva tienda de Zara, detrás de la Vara de Rey.

¿HAMBRE? una necesidad básica, y aquí en Ibiza hay que prestarle especial atención ya que las noches son muy exigentes. Hay tantos restaurantes buenos que no podemos hablar de todos pero aqui tienes unos muy buenos: Power food hay en varios sitios como el Tap Nou en el centro de Ibiza, verduras y frutas del dia se convierten en tu zumo o ensalada. Otra alternativa es el Pasión en Playa d’en Bossa, todo casero de altisima calidad. ¿Rápido, fresco, bueno y barato? Comida San Juan y Los Pasajeros en Ibiza ciudad. ¿Pescado fresco? Hotel La Marina en el puerto. Cocina francesa de alta calidad? Pastis a la vuelta de la Plaça del Parque es una obligacion. Si quieres conocer a una leyenda busca El Bigote en la Cala Mastella, el mejor consejo secreto. El Sushipoint en Marina Botafoch es un punto caliente para Sushi, tanto como el Wok&Roll en Sta. Gertrudis. ¿Quieres comida india de verdad? Prueba el Ancient People en la Avenida de España, la mejor comida por el mejor precio, ¡tienes que probar el Dhal (lentejas indias)! Lo mejor de la comida tailandesa lo encuentras en Bambuddha Grove en la carretera a San Juan, o en Banyan Palace en la carretera de San José a San Antonio, tambien en el Chang Mai en Sta. Eulalia cerca del puerto deportivo y, por último, mi favorito - la Casa Thai 2 en la Avda. Isidoro Macabich/San Antonio. ¿Carne? Es Canto en Sta. Gertrudis tiene los mejores filetes. ¿El mejor bocadillo de jamón serrano? Bar Costa en Sta. Gertrudis. S’Altra Banda, también en Sta. Gertrudis, ofrece buenissima comida de fusión. Comida alemana al lado del mar? Café Sidney en Botafoch es un clasico, este año tambien cuentan con DJs todos los dias. La Luna Nell’ Orto en San Miguel es uno de los restaurantes más auténticos de la isla. ¡Era donde antes se celebraba el primer mercado Hippy de Ibiza! Si quieres comer pollo DE VERDAD tienes que ir a Can Bafalia en la carretera a San Juan, nunca has probado pollo así, todo casero, desde las patatas hasta las Hierbas pasando por su propio pollo. En San Antonio tenemos que volver a mencionar Kumharas una y otra vez; la mejor comida fusión condimentada con buena música. Tambien han abierto un restaurante mediterrasian en Playa d’en Bossa, el Mumak, en frente del Fun Café. Suerte de parte de dub! En Sta. Eulalia se encuentra Es Rickshaw, comida fusión también a un precio razonable. ¿Caro pero que merece la pena? Sa Capella en San Antonio, El Ayoun, 18

Eulalia Mister Kebab o Albertos Doener en Playa d’en Bossa detrás del Sankeys. ¿La mejor hamburguesa? Discoburger en la c/ Bartolomé Rossello/Ibiza. ¿Cena con puesta de sol incluida? De nuevo Kumharas en San Antonio o el Golden Buddha en la otra punta de San Antonio, las Puertas del Cielo encima de Sta. Inés, Sunset Ashram en Cala Compte y, en unos meses, Cala d’Hort con vistas a Es Vedra, o cualquier otra de las numerosas playas en el lado oeste de Ibiza. ¡Sal a encontrarla tu mismo!

Eulalia tienes que ir al Guarana, los domingos hay música en directo, los otros días podéis disfrutar de lo mejorcito del house. De camino a San Juan tienes Aura, con su clientela mayormente inglesa, allí encontraras por ejemplo a Antz, Ernesto Altes con Extremely House Music y los Nightmares on Wax. El Bambuddha en la misma carretera también nos prepara algunas sorpresas. ¿Los orígenes de Ibiza? Las Dalias de camino a San Carlos ofrece sus buenas fiestas de siempre con unos cambios en el restaurante y el club recien reformado. Nuestro amado Underground en la carretera Ibiza – San Antonio es otra de nuestros hogares, los mejores beats por Juanito, Justin Fields e invitados. El Km5 en la carretera de San José decididamente tiene el jardín más bonito, aquí te encuentras con todos en el entorno perfecto. Novum en la carretera Sta. Me I’m Famous sigue los jueves, los viernes ha vuelto Pete Tong y los domingos siguen los Vagabundos de Cadenza Records - marcan la diferencia! El antiguo Lucifer en el Hotel Corso ha reabierto sus puertas bajo ‘Ibiza Station’, es un club muy guapo que abre todo el año con una programacion para destacar. El Divino ha desaparecido, ahora es El Lio de Pacha, Cabaret y dinner de altisima calidad en un entorno superestiloso. DC10 es mas fuerte que nunca, Circo Loco los lunes y los viernes se celebra Pandemonium de Tania Vulcano y su banda. En San Antonio hay dos clubs que valen la pena: Las mejores fiestas de Eden son Mondo Loco los sábados y el Judgement Sunday los domingos. Es Paradis sigue con su legendaria Fiesta del Agua los miercoles y Hed Kandi los sabados. IT IS AN HONOUR TO HAVE YOU IN DUB MAGAZINE. HOW MANY YEARS HAVE YOU BEEN ON THE ISLAND? Almost thirty years. I arrived in 1982 on vacation and I returned here in 1984. Back in 1982 I wanted to stay three weeks and I ended up staying three months. I found a dog in Ibiza, I took it with me to Italy and I wanted to return as soon as possible because I felt the island was my place. You could walk down the street without being bothered and dress as you wanted. There was an incredible sense of freedom, respect and a beautiful environment; the island had everything. WHAT LED YOU TO THE ISLAND? As I said, I was living in Rome and for years people had been telling me: “You have to go to Ibiza; it is totally your place.” And I could only think that with so much talk about Ibiza, I didn’t want to go ever. But finally, in August 1982 I found myself in Rome with all the streets deserted, an oppressive heat, working in a club... And a friend of mine tells me that he is looking for people to carpool. Another friend of mine, a black dancer, would also come with us. We travelled in an old Mercedes to Ibiza! When we left the ship at the port of Ibiza, I saw many people at a lock in, Marysol, totally crazy at 8 am. I was amazed. WAS IT LIKE YOU HAD IMAGINED? No, I didn’t expect something like that. I knew that here there was a lot of partying and craziness, but this was unimaginable. IF YOU LOOK BACK AND COMPARE IBIZA IN THE OLDEN DAYS AND NOW, WHAT DO YOU SEE? It is only natural to see changes because all things change. People who say: “Everything was much better before” live in the past, I don’t like that. Also, each one of us changes. Nowadays I don’t go out as much as I used to, but young people who come here have fun like we used to. I can’t say whether now is better or 48

worse than before. Although I’m older, I still go out sometimes, I dance and I like what I see. Ibiza will always be a very special spot and is one of the places, at least in Europe, with most freedom and where one can have loads of fun. This will never change. SPEAKING OF THE YEARS THAT HAVE GONE BY, HOW HAVE YOU KEPT SO INCREDIBLY WELL? WHAT IS YOUR SECRET? I honestly don’t know. I have never done anything special and I eat everything I want. The important thing is to stay in control of what you do. I have never abused anything. I can say I have tried everything, but you have to keep control. Even good things, if you abuse them, are not so good. Physically, I have worked hard. I’ve been a dancer for many years. When I was living in Rome I used to work in the best clubs, and when I got to Ibiza I also ended up dancing in a nightclub. It was the first night we went to Pachá. I started dancing and immediately they asked me if I wanted to work as a dancer. I thought: “No, please. Enough.” I wanted to change my lifestyle, to work during the day, to sell bikinis... But, you know, I knew how to do it, I had my clothes and I was a natural. It was my passion. That is how I have kept my body for many years. I started when I was 22, when I started dancing at Pachá I was 32, and I finished when I was 40. It was also because of my dancing style: it was very different from the others, very dynamic and very classy. I have never dressed in miniskirts to show everything, that is not my style. I always used to dance with baggy trousers and hats. My dancing style was different; I gave myself completely to the music. But one day it was time to stop dancing. SO HOW DO YOU KEEP YOURSELF IN CONDITION NOW? I KNOW YOU ARE VERY GOOD AT BEACH PADDLE, I HAVE SEEN IT FIRST HAND WHEN WE HAVE PLAYED TOGETHER. After I quit dancing I started playing the drums. The djembe is my instrument. I spent my Sundays at Benirràs and I loved it. My style

is also very powerful; again I give myself entirely to the beat. And, of course, the beach paddle. I love to play. I can’t go to the beach and sunbathe, it bores me, I have to move and playing beach paddle is the best way for me to stay fit until today. I have never been as good as I am now. I spend hours and hours playing. The artistic and creative part of my life, like painting, is also essential for me and every day I have to play my guitar a few hours to compose and sing. All this gives me the peace I need and that is how I can keep my inner balance.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO COME TO IBIZA TO LIVE? Ibiza is a very small island and you have no room for error. If you make one or piss someone about, word spreads quickly and you get burnt. You have to be humble and polite if you want to keep working. If you come to piss about, you will last two or three years at most and you will have to leave. You also have to protect yourself because a lot of people want to meddle too much in your private life. I’m very selective when it comes to choosing who I let into my life. If you lead a public life here, you have to have your private space, somewhere to retire to. Everyone is on vacation and they ask you for favours or to show them all the sites and organize something for them. You also have to be very strong mentally. It is easy to get lost on the island and end up being an alcoholic or a junkie who does nothing and abuses others.

ES UN HONOR TENERTE EN DUB MAGAZINE. ¿CUÁNTOS AÑOS LLEVAS EN LA ISLA? Casi treinta años. Llegué en 1982 de vacaciones y volví por aquí en 1984. Ya en 1982 quería quedarme tres semanas y me acabé quedando tres meses. aEncontré un perro en Ibiza, me lo llevé a Italia y quería volver lo antes posible porque sentí que la isla era mi sitio. Podías andar por la calle sin que te molestaran y vestirte como te daba la gana. Había un sentido de libertad increíble, respeto y una naturaleza bonita; o sea, la isla lo tenía todo.

ARE YOU GOING TO STAY IN IBIZA FOREVER OR DO YOU FEEL LIKE RELOCATING? I can imagine dying here. The island is my home. I feel great at home, in my world. Of course, you can see a lot more and you can spend a lifetime travelling, but what I value most now is my inner peace, which I have found here. I have my own house, my animals, and a beautiful garden that I work in every day. I will stay

¿Y QUÉ TE LLEVÓ A LA ISLA? Como he dicho, vivía en Roma, y durante años y años la gente me decía: “Tienes que ir a Ibiza, ese es tu sitio”. Y yo pensaba que tanto hablar de Ibiza, no quería ir nunca. Pero al final, en agosto de 1982 me vi en Roma, todo desierto, un calor impresionante, trabajando en una discoteca... Y un amigo mío me dice que busca gente para compartir el viaje; otro amigo mío, un bailarín negro, también vendría con nosotros. ¡Viajamos en un Mercedes viejo hasta Ibiza! Cuando salimos del barco en el puerto de Ibiza vi a mucha gente en el Marysol de after, todos totalmente locos a las 8 de la mañana, y aluciné. > 5.1

¿ERA COMO TE LO HABÍAS IMAGINADO? Pues no, no me esperaba tanto. Sabía que aquí había mucha fiesta y locura, pero esto es inimaginable. SI MIRAS LA IBIZA DE ANTES Y LA IBIZA DE HOY, ¿CÓMO LA VES? Es de lo más normal que haya cambios porque todas las cosas cambian. La gente que dice: “Antes todo era mucho mejor” vive en el pasado; eso no me gusta. Cada uno también cambia. Hoy en día no estoy tanto en “la movida”, pero los jóvenes que llegan hoy se divierten igual que nosotros. No puedo decir si hoy es mejor o peor. Siendo más vieja todavía a veces salgo, bailo y me gusta lo que veo. Ibiza siempre va a ser un sitio muy especial y, al menos en Europa, es uno de los lugares con más libertad y diversión; esto nunca cambiará. HABLANDO DE LOS AÑOS QUE PASAN, ¿CÓMO TE HAS MANTENIDO TAN INCREÍBLEMENTE BIEN? ¿CUÁL ES TU SECRETO? La verdad es que no lo sé. Nunca he hecho nada especial; como lo que me da la gana. Creo que lo importante es que no exageres en lo que haces; nunca he abusado de nada. Puedo decir que he probado de todo, pero tienes que mantener el control. Aun las cosas buenas, si abusas de ellas no son más buenas. Físicamente sí que he trabajado mucho. He sido bailarina muchos años. Ya viviendo en Roma trabajaba en las mejores discotecas, y al llegar a Ibiza al final también estuve bailando en una discoteca. Fue la primera noche que fuimos a Pachá. Empecé a bailar y enseguida me preguntaron si quería trabajar de bailarina. Pensé: “No, por favor. Basta”’. Quería cambiar de vida, trabajar de día, vender biquinis... Pero, ya sabes: sabía hacerlo, tenía mi ropa y me salía fácilmente; era mi pasión. Así he mantenido mi cuerpo durante muchos años. Empecé con 22, cuando empecé a bailar en Pachá tenía 32, y terminé con 40. También fue por mi estilo de bailar: era muy distinto al de las demás, muy dinámico y con mucha clase. Nunca me he vestido con minifalda para que se vea todo; no era mi estilo. Yo siempre iba con pantalón bombacho y sombreritos. Bailaba de forma diferente, me entregaba mucho a la música. Pero un día llegó el momento de dejar de bailar. ENTONCES, ¿CÓMO TE MANTIENES AHORA? SÉ QUE JUEGAS MUY BIEN A LAS PALAS, LO HE EXPERIMENTADO YO MISMO JUGANDO CONTIGO. Después del baile pasé a tocar el tambor. El djembé es mi instrumento. Estaba los domingos en Benirràs y me encantó. Mi estilo es también muy potente; de nuevo, me entrego totalmente al ritmo. Y, por supuesto, las palas; me encanta jugar. No puedo ir a la playa y tomar el sol; me aburro, me tengo que mover. Y jugar a las palas es para mí la mejor forma de mantenerme, hasta hoy. Nunca se me ha dado mejor que ahora. Me paso horas y horas jugando. También es imprescindible para mí la parte artística y creativa, como la pintura, y cada día tengo que tocar mi guitarra unas horas para poder componer y cantar. Es a través de esto que encuentro la paz y puedo mantener mi equilibrio interior. ¿QUÉ CONSEJO DARÍAS A UNA PERSONA QUE QUIERE VENIR A IBIZA PARA GANARSE LA VIDA AQUÍ? Ibiza es una isla muy pequeña, no tienes derecho a error. Si cometes uno o puteas a alguien, enseguida se corre la voz y estás quemado. Tienes que comportarte con humildad y corrección si quieres seguir adelante. Si vienes a putear, durarás como mucho dos o tres años y te vas a tener que ir. 50

También hay que protegerse porque mucha gente se mete demasiado en tu vida privada. Soy muy selectiva a la hora de elegir a quién dejo entrar en mi vida. Si aquí llevas una vida pública tienes que tener tu espacio privado donde retirarte. Todo el mundo está de vacaciones y te pide cualquier favor o que les lleves a todos los sitios, y les organizas cualquier cosa. También hay que ser muy fuerte mentalmente. Es fácil perderse en la isla y terminar siendo un alcohólico o un drogadicto que no hace nada y abusa de los demás. ¿TE VAS A QUEDAR PARA SIEMPRE EN IBIZA O TE APETECE CAMBIAR DE LUGAR? Me puedo imaginar morir aquí. La isla es mi hogar, me siento muy bien en mi casa, mi mundo. Claro que se pueden ver muchas cosas más y se puede gastar una vida viajando, pero ahora lo que más valoro es mi paz interior, y esta paz la he encontrado aquí. Tengo mi propia casa, mis animales, un jardín muy bonito que me trabajo cada día. Así que hasta que pueda voy a quedarme en mi casa, aunque a veces el mantenimiento es duro: cuesta mucha energía, pero es positiva. Y si un día no puedo hacerlo todo yo sola, espero tener amigos más jóvenes que me puedan ayudar con ciertas cosas.

HOW DO YOU SEE THE ACTUAL MUSIC SCENE - IS MUSIC FIRST OR ITS COMERCIALISATION? “Well, music is business. I don’t do it for the money and therefore I don’t see it as a job but love to make and let people listen to my music during my performances.” DO YOU STILL USE VINYL OR DID YOU ADAPT TO NEW WAYS OF DJING? IF SO, WHICH ONES? “I still use vinyl and I love it cause it is an artform. And I don’t have any problem with the new ways of djing. Although it is hard to find new releases on vinyl and that is the reason why I am using CD’s next to vinyl during my sets.” WHAT CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT TRANSMAT, YOUR LABEL? “We have new releases coming out. We are doing vinyl and digital. The vinyl is selling quite well. Two releases from Greg Gow, one Zak Khutoretsky. And a new release from John Beltran.”

FUTURE PROJECTS? “Right now we are working on a few thing but cannot announce anything at the moment.” IS THERE ANYTHING NEW COMING MUSICWISE OR ARE ALL SOUNDS AND STYLES ALREADY DISCOVERED? “Yes, there is always something new and it happens by surprise. The next time the scene changes it’s probably gonna come from a kid around 12/14 years old who is gonna be 18 one day and who will by then make a change. But there is nobody now who will be able to change anything. Usually things like that happen every 30 years.” HOW IS THE DETROIT SCENE EVOLVING? “NOT.” WHAT ADVICE DO YOU GIVE SOMEBODY WHO WANTS TO BECOME A DJ? “Music has to be your passion, you have to spread your feelings in what you do - not be there just to make the dancefloor burning. It is your own tastes and feelings that must be the revelation for people who are listening to you… DJ is a true job.” HOW WAS THE OPENING OF WE...LOVE? “It was a great night and i had much fun.” WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT WE... Normalmente estas cosas pasan cada treinta años.” ¿CÓMO EVOLUCIONA LA ESCENA DE DETROIT? “No evoluciona.” ¿QUÉ CONSEJO DARÍAS A ALGUIEN QUE QUIERE SER DJ? “La música tiene que ser tu pasión, tienes que impregnar todo lo que haces con tus sentimientos y no estar allí simplemente para quemar la pista de baile. Tus gustos y sentimientos tienen que ser como una revelación para la gente que te escucha... Ser DJ es un trabajo de verdad.” ¿CÓMO FUE LA INAUGURACIÓN DE WE...LOVE? “Fue una noche genial y me lo pasé en grande.” ¿QUÉ TIENE DE ESPECIAL WE...LOVE PARA QUE SIGAS VOLVIENDO? “Es la única fiesta de Ibiza en la que quiero actuar.” ¿HAS TENIDO TIEMPO DE CONOCER IBIZA? Y, SI ES ASÍ, ¿CUÁL ES TU LUGAR PREFERIDO DE LA ISLA? “Sí, llevo diecisiete años volviendo a Ibiza. Ricardo and I met in 1994 in Frankfurt playing together in a club called Box, where Patrick Monza was the manager, and a year later we met again in Ibiza at a party at Guaraná Salines. That was one legendary party, one of those that no longer exist because of its innocence and purity. In 1996 I moved to Ibiza and Ricardo came a year later. Soon we ended up living together in a huge apartment with four other crazy guys. Ricardo set up his studio in the cleaning room, which had no windows, and he never opened the door, even for breathing. He lived entirely for his music, sitting on the floor surrounded by analogue machines. Thanks to this state of total surrender he produced, among other familiar tracks, his first hit: 808 the Bassqueen. The problem was that he lived so devotedly to his music that he was a disaster at home and it became almost impossible to live with him. He said the reason was because of his South American culture because people there are not as sociable as in Europe, there are many more singles and the issue of family and home is not as important as it is here. That didn’t excuse him, but explained a bit why he lacked the common and social sense one needs when sharing a flat.

After having found his wife, who supports him in everything she can, and had two children, he says he has learned the importance of having a social life. He has also learned that in a time when society tries to break up the unity that family represents to end up with individuals who are easier to manipulate, one must preserve the common sense that distinguishes us from most animals. Our contributions to society help us find our place in it and there is no doubt that Ricardo wasn’t born to wash dishes, but to make us happy with his unique talent combining frequencies. All of this has led him to his latest project: the production of a remix album of jazz and electronic music. “When I play as a DJ I sense a rhythmic formula. It doesn’t matter if it is techno, house or whatever, but apart from the rhythm there is a formula, something which is true on the dance floor. The rhythm is understood in all parts of the world, but what’s missing is the melody. I try to include other instruments, a choir or other elements, and I have used a lot of stuff from the ECM label that was not quantized. The only thing you need to do is to harmonize all the sounds. One day I met a distributor from this label and, as I have said many things about ECM in previous interviews, we came up with the idea of producing something in collaboration with Max Loderbauer, a music professor with great talent and a great friend. Electronic music has its limits and this music doesn’t; it is much more open, has more space and uses other ways to expand the frequencies. After having produced four tracks with elements from the label, we had a meeting with Manfred Eicher, the owner of ECM, who gave us carte blanche to use whatever we wanted from his label. We had to connect the different music worlds. There is a lot of prejudice and there are still some people who say that electronic music is not music. Projects like this will help to build bridges to encourage more producers to try to combine these worlds to create something together. “ When I ask him if this is something very underground and what is the difference between a commercial production and an underground one, he replies that for him there is no such difference. “Music is something for everyone. If this music is made with innocence instead of being calculated and then it becomes music for eve-

ryone, there is no one in the world who can criticize that. Art begins to be art when it interests more people than just you. That is why it can’t be classified as underground or commercial. What normally happens is that if someone has been successful and tries to recreate that success in a commercial styly, then he blows it. Success has to be born from the innocence of creating something, it is as simple as that. One of the most important things for a man is trying to avoid competition. We have to try not to compete. When we compare ourselves to other people and try to be more successful than them, it leads us to creating works of lesser quality. “ Speaking of quality, we tackle another important issue in the music field: whether to use vinyl or digital music. Ricardo says that the most important reason why he is still using vinyl is because a physical product is the ultimate proof that you have contributed with some money, even if it is very little, to the artist, the label, the distributors, the graphic designers and even the people who create the machines to produce the music. Someone who is used to only using music recorded into a hard disk loses the value and the respect for the product and the creation work itself. With this practice, we are going to lose an entire culture and it will die. It is the classic phenomenon of “cut and paste.” “Luckily, the use of vinyl in jazz and classical music, what we could call hi-fi, is increasing more and more. There is an appreciation for physical things; there is a culture that keeps it alive. Most people who support it are people who have grown up in an analogue world, a world without computers. We, who have witnessed both worlds, have the responsibility to preserve these values among those who can’t live without a computer. That is why it is important to keep record stores open, that the global network of dance continues to grow, that people come together to celebrate and dance in a positive and nonaggressive way, and that we live together for a while. We must have a social life and try to weave a network of friends instead of being alone and wanting to take advantage of others. “ I ask him that if he wasn’t a musician, what would he do. “Music. I think we all have to find a language to communicate and have a good relationship with the rest of the people. Anyway, I am a person who likes to translate, help and simplify my views and help people who have a more complicated view. If I didn’t do music, I would be a teacher or something like that. Whatever the case, it would be a social thing.” You once played at Albert Hofmann’s birthday party, right? “I played for his birthday a year before he turned a hundred! There were a bunch of old guys with white beards, all aged between eighty and a hundred, in the audience. It was in a hotel or rather in a castle on top of a rock in some lost mountains of Switzerland. To get there we had to catch a train that passed through a tunnel and reached the “val Sinestra.” Different DJs like Sammy Dee and Zip, which are some of the best, performed. Zip owns the label Perlon, which for me is the most important in our business. But suddenly a set would be interrupted and Tangerine Dream would play live. There was also a stone fountain filled with liquid LSD. I did not try it because I have tremendous respect for this thing and its doses, and also because I had to play. However, it was incredible. They were all on acid and suddenly you would hear some jokes from Otto (a German comedian) and you would hear about fifty children laughing while their hippie parents were sleeping. It was a unique experience. “

How do you make a good ceviche? (For those who don’t know it, it is one of the tastiest and healthiest cold dishes in the world.) “First of all, you have to get a firm fish. It may be tuna or sea bass, what is important is that the flesh is firm. Cut the fish into small cubes; they have to be small because later the meat is cooked with lemon, which destroys the Proteus structure. Then squeeze the lemon (or lime or a mixture of both) and add the juice to the fish until it floats in it. Then thinly slice onion -enough, but not too much-, quite a bit of coriander, and add it to the fish with some sea salt. It’s even better if it is from the Himalayas because treated salt is poor in mineral structure (it has only two elements and it is toxic). Then add pepper and a bit of olive oil or vegetable oil. You can also add a little orange peel, maybe some cinnamon and hot peppers (just a little) finely chopped. You can also add some chop tomatoes. Leave it marinating for at least half an hour in the fridge in order for the flavours to develop. And if you have some leftover for the next day it is even better. The important thing is that it floats in lemon, this way it is perfectly preserved. “ What can you tell us about Ibiza? “When I arrived in Ibiza in 94 I was totally fascinated with Space, Privilege and Amnesia. The music was very commercial, rather obvious. In Space there were only two speakers and the DJ played at the bar looking out and no one could see him; those were the best parties. Music was not as important. People had loads of fun and there was a lot of communication. What also made it special was the mixture of people: chic people and people that worked. Today you have to save money to come. It is a giant machine and there is tension between the promoters because the market is so big. A party is successful because of the quality of its music and its people; that has been the secret to success for many years. To play obvious or commercial music doesn’t do it anymore. For me, the best parties are in Amnesia and DC10. I think in Cocoon we have integrated the issue of sets. Before they didn’t exist, it was a series of orgasms one after another. We introduced the sets creating stories for several hours. Instead of focusing too much in a song, what counts is the different coloured sets and the mix between tension and energy. One has to bear in mind that people pay big money to come to Ibiza, so a party must always be interesting. Luciano, for example, has also managed to make people listen to great quality music and he has to keep on doing it. It still lacks some melody (there’s a mission for Ricardo :-)) in order for women to dance to it. Besides music, I see that Ibiza has a mix of celebration and peace. That to me is a perfect combination.” One last thing: it is said that you have a magic machine to produce unique sounds, is it true or is it a myth? “In my studio I work with a modular system: a combination of mixers that have different sounds. It is a giant system of small modules that are not very expensive. Each module is worth between one and three hundred Euros at most. Amongst these modules there are some frequency producers, oscillators and random things. I have turned all this into a set of sounds that makes its own decisions and has a life of its own. When you turn the machine off and then you turn it on again you get something completely different.” YOU WILL HAVE NOTICED BY NOW THAT HE IS A GENIUS AND THAT THANKS TO PEOPLE LIKE RICARDO VILLALOBOS ELECTRONIC MUSIC WILL HAVE A VERY LONG LIFE. 60

LA MUSICA ES ALGO DE TODO EL MUNDO

Ricardo y yo nos conocimos tocando juntos en un club llamado Box en Frankfurt, donde Patrik de Monza era el encargado, en el año 1994 y un año más tarde volvimos a encontrarnos en Ibiza en una fiesta en el Guaraná de Salines. Aquella fue una fiesta legendaria, una de esas que hoy en día ya no existen por su inocencia y pureza. En 1996 me trasladé a vivir a Ibiza y Ricardo vino un año más tarde. Pronto acabamos viviendo juntos en un apartamento gigante con cuatro locos más. Ricardo instaló su estudio en el cuarto de limpieza, que no tenía ventanas, y nunca abría la puerta ni para respirar. Vivía enteramente para su música, sentado en el suelo rodeado de máquinas analógicas. Gracias a este estado de entrega total salió, entro otros temas conocidos, su primer “bombazo”: 808 the Bassqueen. El problema era que vivía tan entregado a la música que era un desastre en el tema del hogar y se hacía casi imposible vivir con él. Según él, la razón había que buscarla en la cultura sudamericana, ya que la gente no es tan sociable como en Europa, hay muchos más solteros y el tema de la familia y el hogar no tiene tanta importancia como aquí. Eso no le servía de excusa, pero explicaba un poco porque tenía un sentido común y social tan pobre, pero tan necesario cuando compartes piso. Después de haber encontrado a su mujer, que lo apoya en todo lo que puede, y de tener dos hijos con ella dice que ha aprendido que es importante tener vida social. También ha aprendido que en tiempos en los que la sociedad trata de romper esa unidad que es la familia para acabar teniendo individuos más fáciles de manipular hay que conservar este sentido común que nos distingue de la mayoría de los animales. El hecho de contribuir a la sociedad aportando alguna cosa hace que uno encuentre su función dentro de la misma, y sin duda la de Ricardo no es la de lavar platos, sino la de hacernos felices con su talento único: el de combinar frecuencias. Todo esto le ha llevado al que es su último proyecto: la producción de un álbum de fusión de jazz y música electrónica. “Cuando toco como DJ percibo una fórmula rítmica. Da lo mismo si es techno, house o lo que sea, pero aparte del ritmo hay una fórmula, algo que es como una verdad sobre la pista de baile. El ritmo se entiende en todas las partes del mundo, pero lo que falta es la melodía. Intento incluir otros instrumentos, un coro u otros elementos, y he usado muchos del sello ECM que no están cuantizados. Lo único que hace falta es que todos los sonidos estén en harmonía. Entonces, un día conocí a alguien que trabajaba en la distribución de este sello y, como he dicho bastantes cosas sobre ECM ya en entrevistas anteriores, surgió la idea de producir algo junto con Max Loderbauer, profesor de música, gran talento y gran amigo. La música electrónica tiene sus límites y esta música no; está mucho más abierta, tiene más espacio y tiene otra forma de expandir las frecuencias. Después de haber producido cuatro temas con elementos del sello tuvimos una cita con Manfred Eicher, dueño de ECM, que nos dio carta blanca para usar lo que quisiéramos de su sello. Había que conectar los diferentes mundos de la música. Hay mucho prejuicio y todavía hay algunos que dicen que la música electrónica no es música. Proyectos como el nuestro ayudarán a crear puentes que animen a más productores a intentar combinar estos mundos para crear algo juntos.” A la pregunta de si esto es algo muy underground y de cuál es la diferencia entre una producción comercial y otra underground me responde que para él esta diferencia no existe.

“La música es algo de todo el mundo. Si esta música se hace con inocencia musical y no con tanto cálculo y luego se convierte en música de todos, no hay nadie en el mundo que pueda criticar eso. El arte empieza a ser arte cuando le interesa a una persona más que a ti mismo. Por eso no se puede clasificar en underground y comercial. Lo que suele pasar es que si alguien ha tenido éxito y trata de recrearlo en clave comercial, entonces es cuando la caga. El éxito tiene que nacer de la inocencia de crear algo, ni más ni menos. Una de las cosas más importantes para el hombre es tratar de salir de la competencia. Hay que intentar no competir. El hecho de compararse con otras personas y tratar de tener más éxito te lleva a hacer un trabajo de menos calidad.” Hablando de calidad, llegamos a otro tema importante en el campo de la música: el tema de tocar con vinilos o con música digital. Ricardo dice que la razón más importante por la que aún toca con vinilos es por el hecho de que un producto físico es la prueba definitiva de que se ha aportado algún dinero, por mínimo que sea, al artista, al sello, a los distribuidores, al diseñador gráfico y hasta a la gente que crea las máquinas para poder producir esta música. Una persona que está acostumbrada a consumir solo música grabada en un disco duro pierde esta valoración y el respeto al producto y a la misma obra. Así se va a perder toda una cultura y se va a morir. Es el clásico fenómeno de “copiar y pegar”. “Por suerte, el vinilo en el ámbito del jazz y la música clásica, digamos en la alta fidelidad, está aumentando cada vez más. Hay un aprecio por las cosas físicas, hay una cultura que lo mantiene vivo. La mayoría de la gente que lo apoya es gente que ha crecido en un mundo analógico, un mundo sin ordenador. Se puede decir que nosotros, que somos testigos de los dos mundos, tenemos la responsabilidad de conservar estos valores entre los que no saben vivir sin ordenador. Por eso es importante que haya tiendas de discos y que la red mundial del baile siga creciendo, que la gente se reúna para celebrar y bailar de forma positiva y no agresiva, que convivamos juntos un tiempo. Hay que tener vida social e intentar tejer una red de amigos en vez de estar solos y querer sacar ventaja a los demás.” Le pregunto que si no hiciera música, qué haría. “Música. Yo creo que uno tiene que encontrar un idioma para comunicarse y estar en buena relación con el resto de la gente. De todas maneras, soy una persona a la que le gusta traducir, ayudar y simplificar mis puntos de vista, y ayudar a la gente que tiene un punto de vista más complicado. Si no hiciera música, sería profesor o algo parecido. Fuera lo que fuera, sería una cosa social.” Una vez tocaste en el cumpleaños de Albert Hofmann, ¿no? “¡Toqué por su cumpleaños un año antes de que cumpliera cien! Me encontré con un montón de ancianos con barba blanca; todos tenían entre ochenta y cien años. Fue en un hotel, o mejor dicho, en un castillo encima de una roca en unas montañas perdidas de Suiza. Para llegar tuvimos que coger un tren que pasaba por un túnel y llegamos al “val sinestra”. Tocaron diferentes DJs como Zip y Sammy Dee, que son de los mejores. Zip es el dueño del sello Perlon, que para mí es el más importante en nuestra cultura. Pero también de repente se interrumpía un set y tocaba Tangerine Dream en vivo. También había una fuente de piedra que estaba llena de LSD líquido. Yo no lo probé porque le tengo un respeto tremendo a esta cosa y a sus dosis, y también porque tenía que tocar. De todas formas, era increíble. Toda la gente estaba con el ácido y de repente pinchaban unos chistes de Otto (un humorista alemán) y venían unos cincuenta niños que se oían y se reían mientras sus padres hippies estaban durmiendo. Fue una experiencia única.” 5.1

¿Cómo se hace un buen ceviche? (Para los que no lo saben, es uno de los platos fríos más ricos y sanos del mundo.) “Primero hay que conseguir un pescado firme. Puede ser atún o corvina, lo importante es que sea de carne firme. Cortas el pescado en cubitos pequeños; tienen que ser pequeños porque luego la carne se cocina con limón, que destruye la estructura de proteo. Después exprimes el limón –también se puede usar lima o una mezcla de ambos– y añades el jugo hasta que el pescado flote en el jugo. Luego picas cebolla –bastante, pero sin pasarse–, bastante cilantro y lo añades junto con sal marina, o mejor del Himalaya porque la sal tratada es muy pobre en estructura mineral (tiene solo dos elementos y es toxica). Después añades pimienta picada y un poco de aceite de oliva o de maravilla. También puedes añadir un poco de cáscara de naranja, igual algo de canela y pimientos picantes, pocos, picados bien finos. También puedes picar un poco de tomate. Luego se deja media hora en el frigorífico como mínimo para que coja sabor. Y si te sobra algo para el día siguiente es aún mejor. Lo importante es que flote en limón, así se conserva perfectamente.” ¿Qué nos cuentas de Ibiza? “Cuando llegué a Ibiza en el 94 estaba totalmente fascinado con Space, Privilege y Amnesia. La música era un poco comercial, mejor dicho, obvia. En Space solamente había dos altavoces y el DJ tocaba en el bar mirando hacia afuera y nadie le veía; esas eran las mejores fiestas. La música no tenía tanta importancia, la gente se lo pasaba muy bien y había mucha comunicación. También era especial la mezcla de gente: había gente chic y gente que trabajaba. Hoy tienes que ahorrar dinero para venir. Es una maquinaria gigante y hay tensión entre los promotores porque el mercado no es tan grande. Lo que define el éxito de una fiesta es la calidad de la gente y de la música; eso garantiza el éxito durante muchos años. Lo de tocar música comercial u obvia ya no te lleva al éxito. Para mí, las mejores fiestas están en Amnesia y también en DC10. Creo que nosotros en Cocoon hemos integrado el tema de los sets. Antes no existían, era una serie de orgasmos uno detrás del otro. Nosotros introducimos los sets creando historias durante varias horas. No damos tanta importancia a cada canción, sino que lo que cuenta es el conjunto de diferentes colores, el juego entre tensión y energía. Uno tiene que tener en cuenta que la gente paga mucho dinero para venir a Ibiza, y por eso una fiesta tiene que ser siempre interesante. Luciano, por ejemplo, también ha conseguido que la gente escuche música de mucha calidad y tiene que seguir así. Todavía le falta algo de melodía (he ahí la misión de Ricardo :-)) para que las mujeres bailen. Aparte de la música, veo que Ibiza tiene esta mezcla entre fiesta y tranquilidad. Eso para mí es una combinación perfecta.” Una última cosa: se dice que tienes una maquina mágica para producir sonidos únicos, ¿qué hay de esa leyenda? “En mi estudio trabajo con un sistema modular, una combinación de mezcladoras que tienen diferentes sonidos. Es un sistema gigante de pequeños módulos que tampoco son muy caros. Cada módulo vale entre cien y trescientos euros como máximo. Entre estos módulos hay productores de frecuencias, osciladores y cosas aleatorias. Y he convertido todo esto en un set de sonidos que toma sus propias decisiones y tiene vida propia. Cuando uno apaga la máquina y la enciende de nuevo tiene algo completamente diferente.” YA OS HABRÉIS DADO CUENTA DE QUE ES UN GENIO Y QUE GRACIAS A GENTE COMO RICARDO VILLALOBOS LA MÚSICA ELECTRÓNICA TENDRÁ UNA VIDA MUY LARGA. 62

FOLLOW MY LIEBE INTERVIEW WITH AUDIOFLY TEXT:HOFER66 // PHOTO: PHRANK

IT IS A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN APRIL AND I HAVE THE PLEASURE TO TALK TO ANTHONY MIDDLETON AND LUCA SAPORITO, BETTER KNOWN AS ‘AUDIOFLY’, ABOUT THEIR LATEST RELEASE, THE ALBUM ‘FOLLOW MY LIEBE’. H: THIS ALBUM IS YOUR FIRST LONGPLAYER EVER, NO? In fact it is our second one but we dropped the first as we couldn’t find the flow in it. There is a difference in - let’s say - writing a comic or a whole novel. H: THAT MAKES SENSE. SO TALKING ABOUT THE ‘SECOND’ ONE - WHY THE NAME ‘FOLLOW MY LIEBE’? The name is a game of words which we very much like to play - you can say ‘follow my love’ but as well ‘follow my leader’ which is a kid’s game. And our friends immediately liked the name - that’s the whole story behind it. H: AND THE STORY BEHIND THE COVER? We have a very good friend of us, Michele Tabucci who is a great photographer in Barcelona, and we always wanted to do something together so we went up that mountain - Mont Zenith - near Barcelona in the end of fall last year and we took some pictures there. The problem was it was so cold and the whole set up did not work so they seem to not come out as we wanted, you could see we are freezing - but at the end they were really ‘cool’. 66

H: HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE SOUND OF THE ALBUM? We did not want to do what we always do, we tried to create a story with the tracks so you can listen to them anywhere, not necessarily in a club. We like to call it ‘house for the mind’. Starts very disco, later come some female vocals that are almost pop, followed by some Massive Attack-style 80 bpm track feat. Sean Parks playing the DJ in the movie ‘Human Traffic’... H: ...AND THE ‘6 DEGREES’ TRACK.... That is the vocal track - made with Fiora’s voice - this track will be remixed soon by the likes of Booka Shade- Martin Buttrich and Guti. This is a proper song so we let the remixers do what they like to do - take it more into the dancefloor. H: HOW LONG DID IT TAKE TO PRODUCE THE ALBUM? From start to finish it was almost a year but let’s just call it nine months, a proper pregnancy and the birth of the baby ‘follow my liebe’, being the fruit of a nine-year-friendship.... We try to keep business out of our friendship in order not to spoil it but sometimes you have to sort out things. It is a kind of creative friction that brings out the best in both.

H: HOW DO YOU FIND TIME TO PRODUCE IN BETWEEN ALL THE GIGS? The only way to work is on your laptop using some good headphones to collect first ideas while you have the inspiration. So at home when going to the studio you are already half way into the track. Producing an album is different yet - you don’t have another choice - the problem is by the time you get into the studio you lost the feeling with the tracks and it is very hard to find the flow. That is why we stopped the first album - the flow was broken so many times that it was impossible to get a story out of it. So finishing this album was a level of satisfaction that is hard to imagine. It won’t be a number one hit album but it is our first album soever - and we are very proud of it. H: AND SO ARE WE :-) TALKING ABOUT IBIZA, WHERE CAN WE ENJOY AUDIOFLY THIS SEASON? We will certainly play Space a few times this year and would like to do some label showcases this year as well - we are into the bookings right now. Everything will come together very soon. H: TALKING ABOUT SHOWCASES - HOW IS YOUR LABEL ‘SUPERNATURE’ DOING? We are very happy how it develops into a fully mature label - the roster is getting bigger and we have artists covering a wider range of music - not just house but something more deeper, more musical. We are happy to have signed an EP from James Teej, another one form Jay Haze and one more from Solomun. We work as well wit Fabio Giannelli, so we opt for quality more than for names as we want to present different shades of our music. H: WHO IS BEHIND THE WEB DESIGN OF YOUR PAGE? I HAVE TO SAY IT IS REALLY DIFFERENT AND VERY AUTHENTIC. That is our friend Pilar from Madniacs, she is with us for a long time and is nowadays doing a lot of stuff for other labes as well like Mobilee, Visionquest etc. - she is on fire right now. H: SHE SURELY IS... LAST QUESTION - WHAT DOES AUDIOFLY DO IF YOU ARE NOT AUDIOFLY? MEANS HOW DOES YOUR PERFECT DAY-OFF LOOK LIKE? Luca: Eat some great food, go to the beach, do some exercise and enjoy my freedom. Anthony: I would produce music as well - - - big laugh... I walk around and drink coffee, take pictures and enjoy my day off.... Both: Serioulsy, we just try to sleep as much as possible, after 3 months on tour you just want to have a complete day off and sleep. Imagine all those different beds, no matter how amazing they are, no one comes close to your very own one even if its not so good. H: ESTE DISCO ES EL PRIMER LP QUE HACÉIS, ¿NO? De hecho, es el segundo, pero el primero nunca vio la luz porque no nos acababa de convencer. Digamos que es diferente escribir un cómic o toda una novela. H: TENÉIS RAZÓN. PUES HABLANDO DEL SEGUNDO DISCO, ¿POR QUÉ SE TITULA FOLLOW MY LIEBE? El nombre es un juego de palabras con el que nos encanta jugar. Puedes decir “follow my love” (sigue mi amor), pero también “follow my leader” (sigue al líder), que es un juego de niños. Y a nuestros amigos enseguida les gustó el nombre. Esa es la historia detrás del título. H: ¿Y LA HISTORIA DETRÁS DE LA PORTADA? Un buen amigo nuestro, Michele Tabucchi, es un gran fotógrafo establecido en Barcelona y siempre habíamos querido hacer algo juntos. Así que subimos a la cima de esa montaña –el monte Tibidabo– cerca de Barcelona a finales de otoño del año pasado y tomamos algunas fotos. El problema es que hacía tanto frío que la composición no funcionó y no quedaron como nos hubiera gustado. Se ve que nos estamos helando, pero es que somos muy “frescos”. german escandell and jaime irles are the two members of known rebel, presenting their first lp with a collection of ambiental lounge dub trax for those easy afternoons to relax and sit back, close your eyes and let it go. watch out for them in the future, their depth is already remarkable.

when frank zappa talks truth comes out of his mouth, and marcello and francisco convert the vocals into a deep psychedelic trip taking its content almost too serious. guess this is one of those tracks that should only be enjoyed as sober as possible, it could convert into a neverending trip.

tale of us is carmine conte and matteo milleri, both currently living in the outskirts of berlin - they put hands on thomas koch’s great release ‘sense’ featuring james teej - out comes a highly hypnotic trip to your inner core. the track has it all, innovation, emotion, vocals and melodies, a killer groove plus the urge to daaaance.

the original is a deep house weapon full of tricky sounds and vocal bits reigning on a massive kick and a solid rhythm arsenal, but the real hitman is the remix by manu l and javier - fits in any club on any time only depending on the speed you play it - if you have a cool crowd in front of you.

m.a.n.d.y. and mathew dear form m.a.n.d.e.a.r., together they sign responsible for this track, and my fave is the remix by radioslave - a forward thinking house monster par excellence. it combines the genious of mathew with the irresistible groove of philipp and patrick, out comes a track best played just before peak time.

kenny glasgow and jonny white created another most beautiful track after the incredible ‘without you’ - title is program, what they call love is indeed love. a blend of reggae, midtempo, addictive melodies, deep bass and killer groove - altogether an addictive dish nobody can resist. one of those that could last forever, putting a big smile on your face, love in your heart and rhythm in your hips.

jamie is globally respected for his unique way to build up tracks, and this one can easily be described as one of his masterpieces. Unlike the original, being a discoish housetrack with little depth, jamie manages to take it into another sphere, leaving out the obvious parts and adding his addictive beats and bits.

AKI BERGEN FEATURING LAZARUSMAN / GET BETTER aki bergen joins the lazarusman who is a writer from johannesburg, out comes a killer housetrack with a clear message: the days get better when you want them to get better - it is that easy if you focus. wherever i play the track people come and ask to hear it again, and not for the message.

NIMA GORJI / BROWN BABEY / EVOLUTION

nima is on the peak of his carreer, the groove he has is simply irresistible. brown babey is a groovemonster that comes in so easily you don’t even notice how it conquers your heart, and evolution is the deeper side of the ep. both together are a real doodlebug in the hand of all house djs. 74

MACEO PLEX / YOUR STYLE / MAYA JANE COLES RMX born in texas, this artist got it all. your style is 100% addictive - deep house at its best. and maya jane coles makes this track definitely a weapon to let you dive deep into the fields of heavenly house, converting the floor in a sea of lovely beats and grooves, flavoured with addictive melodies and vocals.

LAYO AND BUSHWACKA / SUMMER GONE the only thing i do not get on this track is the title - this is the beginning of all summer and its positive vibes! building up slowly, followed by one of the most genious breaks ever programmed to finally peak in a high voltage house track that is meant to conquer all clubs on this planet.

BURNSKI / THERE IS A CULPRIT james burnham aka burnski delivers a track looking for the guilty one - the culprit. i guess he does not need to find it - the track is a bomb anyway - bulding up slowly and hypnotic, taking you on a looped trip to housebeats flavoured by lethal bass drums and this melody that loops in your head on and on. if it only would not end at some time... a must in all house sets.

greek import 9west deliver one track after the other, with this release on dessous they deliver another oh-so-loving deep house killer ready to boost their number of fans even higher. one could say it is a bit obvious - i say it is just damn right. moments is my fave on the ep and i can not stop playing it.

JAMES TEEJ / SEVEN DAY MEND / PARKERS A GUN FOR HIRE

james is well known for his unique way of integrating deep house grooves into an avantgardistic setup, and seven days mend is one of his masterpieces so far. the remix from spencer parker does not only make it a lot longer but as well even deeper, already the intro makes you go scuba diving. if only the 12 minutes would not pass so fast...

SIOPIS / STINKY SOCKS greek siopis is another highlight in the gpm family, and with stinky socks he once more cements his position as one of the most funny and innovating producers in the current floorscene. acid beeps meet deepest bassdrum, freaky melodies and a ripped vocal, breaks and loops complete this finest track to a perfect tool to prepare any crowd for higher purposes.

LAID BACK VS. SOUL CLAP / COCAINE COOL / SOUL CLAP DUB

the original is a sweet-as-candy housetrack á la audiofly, tale of us takes it the deep hypnotizing way and booka shade puts their distinctive mark on it, converting it into an irresistible floormonster. there will be more to come from the likes of martin buttrich and guti - can’t wait!

ANDRE CROM + MARTIN DAWSON / WHAT WE DO TODAY offspin is one of my favourite labels, they developed into a full monster over the past months. labelhead andre crom joins master dawson to create a housetrack out of the almanac. most cool male vocal meets heavy bassline meets addictive melody and hats and strings fit perfectly into each other.

DENIZ KURTEL FEAT. MYKLE ANTHONY / BEST OF RMX Deniz delivered an outstanding album with ‘yours and mine’, now she released the remake of one of the tracks, ‘best of’. berlin’s dixon delivers a cool housetrack but her own freestyle version is the one that moves me, a disco-dubbish crossover that just screams for a minimal bassline to be mixed underneath.

COCO DA SILVA / DON’T SAY NOTHING - SAY SOMETHING

two killer acts come together - out comes a track that is as (cocaine) cool as it can be. some might prefer the bakerman remix, but i honestly do prefer this one as it really kicks off on the floor - hands in the air guaranteed a summer hit par excellence with no need for further examination.

chris coco and rui da silva build coco da silva and they really go well alongside each other. don’t say nothing is my fave, a deeper track with a heavy bass, smooth kick, addictive vocal and sophisticated melodies and strings - taking you on a trip to 80’s influenced deepest house for any early or very late hour of a set.

OSCAR G + L. CASANOVA FEAT. LESLIE CARTAYA / ALONE

my granddad would say she is screaming because she is hungry... i say the vocal bit is only one part of this house stomper from leftroom celebrating 5 years. looong intro, great build up, culminating finally with a phat kick that leaves no doubt of what is there to come - a schizo vocal taking you to another world.

a trippy vocal, house beats and techno synths build the fudament to this great release on mobilee, and all who know exercise one will be positively surprised about this release. perfect for late hours when u got the crowd by the needle, following you wherever you want to go.

PAN POT / CAPTAIN MY CAPTAIN / RODRIGUEZ JR. RMX another not-so-brand-new track that needs to be reviewed. my studiopartner ingmarlo is going mad on this one as its production is of the best we ever heard. rodriguez takes it to a completely new sphere, whenever you want to rock the crowd you will navigate them to their very orgasmic state-of-dance.

AUDIOFLY / BLACK CAT luca saporito’s voice is as sexy as it can be, it reigns almost unfiltered over this deep house killertrack. you find the review of the whole album in the lp section, but this one is my fave as it perfectly reflects the team’s outstanding quality when it comes to sexy grooves. best played to warm up and make the girls drop.

H.O.S.H. FEAT. OST + KJEX / HAMBURG NIGHTS

the original is already as candy as it can be, but mladen solomun takes it to a deeper level, stripping it down to its core an therefore making it even more addictive. perfect to warm up, sweeten, fade out or heat up any afterhour, beachparty or even your bedroom to tickle your senses.

diynamic made hamburgs scene so much richer it is unbelievable. holger behn aka h.o.s.h. is one of the best, and when he teams up with his mates the expectations explode. hamburg nights is a true house track with all ingredients necessary, and the prince-like voice lifts it into dancefloorheaven.

DEADMAU5 / RAISE YOUR WEAPON / STIMMING RMX

STIMMING + DAVID AUGUST / SEXY BIEST

now that is a rare one - stimming is deadmau5’s favourite producer (!) so he got hands on the original and converted it into an innocent track á la stimming, making it impossible not to dance - and the vocal is so sweet it almost hurts. this track will connect two worlds that are not so far away as they seem - fantastico!

more diynamic! one of those trax that hypnotizes you from the first splitsecond, with no guarantee of a return from planet xtc. crazy sounds meet massive kick, underlined by a five-tone bassline climbing up and down, crowned by a mini vocal. a secret mass destructor of all boredness on any floor, a perfect tool.

’me again’ is the title of paul’s newest longplayer and the name says it all - a typical lp with more of what we love so much. my fave is ‘kruppzeug’, a brain flyer par excellence, beaming you directly into party heaven. lovely melody meets phat kick, deep bass and trippy loops and strings. all you need is there.

born in korea converted into a berliner, jin choi is truly an explorer of deeper sounds. his treatment on vocals and instruments make his music remarkable, and when maceo plex puts hand on it you should definitely fasten seat belts and stop - äh - start smoking. tribal vocals meet looped synths and well-dosed hihats.

ZOO PROJECT CONQUERS PRIVILEGE AND ESTABLISHS SNP AS THE MOST INNOVATIVE PARTY HELD IN THE WORLD’S BIGGEST CLUB. THIS WILL SHAPE SATURDAY NIGHTS IN IBIZA FOR A LONG TIME TO COME... What started in 2007 as a bunch of wildly ambitioned party lovers coming together to celebrate a party in a place that seemed forgotten to the rest of the island developed soon to one of the most talked-about gatherings - the Zoo Project. The spirit and charm of this event is based on the non-commercial ambitions of the founders Ady + Lubka, supported by a huge number of collaborators that make this project so special. There is no hierarchy, whatever you contribute is highly appreciated, no matter where you come from - as long as it helps to make the difference. Now, in its 4th year, Zoo Project proudly maintains this spirit and has naturally grown adding SNP to their events - the Saturday Night Project. There is still no big sponsor involved who tells them what to do, no brands can put their stamp on the image and, as we from dub say since 11 years, this is the formula for legend. What starts as Zoo Project in the hills of Benimussa carries the party to one of the big five clubs in Ibiza, the Privilege. Does not fit? Well, you should definitely think twice about that, normally a party adapts to the massive space that is Privilege, but SNP turns Privilege upside down. And there is the cherry on the cake, the Coco Loco space in Privilege, where people enter the club, not as usual through the big door but via the back door - even the DJ in Coco Loco is at a different place, next to the stairs down to the toilets, to be closer to the crowd. ZOO PROJECT CONQUISTA PRIVILEGE Y ESTABLEZA SNP COMO LA FIESTA MÁS INNOVADORA EN EL CLUB MÁS GRANDE DEL MUNDO. VAN A CAMBIAR LAS NOCHES DEL SABADO EN IBIZA POR UN TIEMPO INDEFINIDO... Lo que empezó en 2007 como una reunión de un grupo de enfermos de fiesta con ambiciones salvajes para celebrar una fiesta en un sitio que parecía olvidado por parte del resto de la isla pronto evolucionó hasta llegar a ser uno de los encuentros de los que más se habla: el Zoo Project. El espíritu y encanto de este evento se basa en las ambiciones no comerciales de sus fundadores, Ady + Lubka, que reciben el apoyo de un gran número de colaboradores que convierten este proyecto en algo tan especial. No hay jerarquías, sea cual sea tu aportación es bienvenida y no importa de dónde vengas siempre que ayudes a marcar la diferencia. Ahora, en su cuarto año, el Zoo Project mantiene con orgullo este espíritu y ha crecido de forma natural; todavía no tiene un gran patrocinador que marque los pasos, ninguna marca puede poner su sello en la imagen y, como llevamos diciendo en dub desde hace once años, esta es la fórmula para convertirse en una leyenda. Lo que tiene de nuevo el concepto es que no acaba en las colinas de Benimussa, sino que la fiesta continúa en uno de los cinco grandes clubs de Ibiza, el Privilege. ¿No os cuadra? Bueno, deberíais pensároslo dos veces. Normalmente una fiesta se adapta al enorme espacio que tiene Privilege, pero SNP (Saturday Night Project) revoluciona Privilege. Después del Zoo Project la multitud viaja en autobuses hasta Privilege para seguir haciendo lo que más les gusta: disfrutar de una buena fiesta. SNP crea en el espacio que hay detrás de la piscina un ambiente íntimo, algo que parece imposible si se tiene en cuenta el tamaño del club. El DJ está lo más cerca posible de la gente y la combinación de grandes elementos visuales, mayoritariamente artistas locos y arte, equipados con un sistema de sonido impresionante que solo admite la mejor música house underground y el tech house dirigido por DJ de nombres no muy conocidos que tienen la mejor reputación del mundillo hace que sea un cóctel adictivo difícil de resistir. Y queda la guinda del pastel: el espacio Coco Loco en Privilege donde la gente entra al club no por la puerta grande, sino por la trasera. Incluso el DJ en el Coco Loco está en un sitio distinto, junto a las escaleras de los baños, para estar más cerca del público. Como veis, todo es especial en este evento, así que si os gustan las fiestas como Cocoon, Circo Loco o Monza, sin duda deberíais probarlo; os prometemos que no os decepcionará. Los trabajadores y los ibicencos no pagan por entrar y la fiesta empieza a medianoche, así que nada de comerse la cabeza con “quécoño-hago-hasta-las-tres”.
