¿VIPIZA?

Everybody is talking about the big change, things will be different, Ibiza is going to become something else, better, bigger, faster, more important and other expressions i never even heard before... Various openings of places that pretend to become the new glamorous face of Ibiza want to be the forerunner of a new Ibiza - maybe they should call it Vipiza?

Todo el mundo está hablando del gran cambio, las cosas van a ser diferentes, Ibiza se va a convertir en otra cosa, mejor, más grande, más rápida, más importante y otras expresiones de las que nunca he oído hablar antes… Diferentes inauguraciones de lugares que pretenden convertirse en la nueva cara glamurosa de Ibiza - ¿quizás deberían llamarla Vipiza?

A daytime party venue where women are denied entrance for not wearing high heels is definitely not a place to have fun, especially when those women are listed on the promoter’s private list, wtf? It is not about ‘I can get into that party however i look like’ but maybe, just maybe, with a slight sensitiveness one should judge a person by its appearance, not the outfit, because that is what makes the difference, all other is just money.

Una sala de fiestas diurnas que prohíbe la entrada a mujeres que no lleven tacones no es, indudablemente, un lugar para divertirse, especialmente cuando esas mujeres están en la lista privada de los organizadores, ¡qué coño! No se trata de ‘Puedo entrar en esa fiesta sin importar lo que lleve puesto’, pero quizás, sólo quizás, con un poquito de sensibilidad se debería juzgar a la persona por su apariencia, no por la ropa que lleva puesta, porque eso es lo que marca la diferencia, todo lo demás es simplemente un asunto de dinero.

In my humble opinion this is all not much more than a whole lot of hot air trying to blow up something that was, is and will always be here, the spirit of this island. We should not pretend to be something else but instead improve what we already have. Ibiza is NOT Miami, it is NOT Monaco and it is NOT St. Tropez, not even Marbella. And we should be very thankful for that, because what we got here is unique, it is not the playground of a few privileged but of a unique mix of people from all over the globe, coming together for only one reason - to have a good time. Our covershoot is a perfect example for taking oneself not too important, it is not the classic ‘I am a star’ shoot but doing things the ibiçencan way - thanks to M.A.N.D.Y. for this, we had so much fun doing it, as you will see in the ‘making of’ inside this edition. Now to the positive side, the music is better than ever, a bunch of high quality promoters came to the island for the first time and we are more than happy to welcome them and dance to their beat. And there is still enough space for all, you have to go out and explore the whole island, it depends on what you make of it. There is still places that offer quality partying for a reasonable price, and if you truly fancy paying a fortune for a night out then there is nothing wrong with it, just do not expect the ‘real’ Ibiza family.

En mi humilde opinión, todo esto no es nada más que mucha fanfarronería intentando destruir algo que aquí ha sido, es y siempre será el espíritu de esta isla. No deberíamos pretender ser algo diferente, sino que en lugar de eso deberíamos mejorar lo que ya tenemos. Ibiza NO es Miami, NO es Mónaco y NO es Saint Tropez, ni siquiera Marbella. Y deberíamos sentirnos muy agradecidos por esto, porque lo que nosotros tenemos es único, no es el patio de juegos de unos cuantos privilegiados, sino que es una mezcla única de gentes del mundo entero, que se unen por una única razón – pasarlo bien. Nuestra foto de portada es un ejemplo perfecto de no darse demasiada importancia a uno mismo, no es la típica foto ‘Soy una estrella’, sino un ejemplo de hacer las cosas al estilo ibicenco – gracias a M.A.N.D.Y. por esto; nos divertimos tanto, como podrás ver en el ‘making of’ que encontrarás en el interior de esta edición. Ahora, mirando el lado positivo, la música es mejor que nunca antes, un grupo de organizadores de gran calidad ha venido a la isla por primera vez y nosotros estamos más que contentos de darles la bienvenida y bailar a su ritmo. Y todavía existe suficiente espacio para todo, tienes que salir y descubrir la isla por entero, depende de lo que tú pienses. Todavía existen lugares que ofrecen celebraciones por un precio razonable y, si lo que de verdad te apetece es gastar una fortuna en una noche de fiesta, eso tampoco tiene nada de malo, simplemente no esperes la ‘auténtica’ familia de Ibiza.

Ups, we did it again, dub 1307 is in your hands, and what a ride... This time we had incredible mental support by the new album of Maya Jane Coles - Comfort - i guess we listened to it about 30 times and it still did not get boring in any way. OLIVIER, TELL US HOW YOU GOT TO KNOW SA TRINXA. OLIVIER: Many years ago i was walking along Salinas, passing Guaranรก and Malibu and i saw this Chiringuito at the end of the beach and fell in love instantly. It was the most authentic place offering good food. Those days Nito was the man in charge and Guillermo was still a boy with 12 years but he was already work-

ing there. We became friends and the place started to grow, we celebrated the first full moon and magic moon parties and all the Ibiza family came to celebrate with us until 10 in the morning. It soon became THE reference for good parties not only on the weekends but every day. The family grew and we were all very intimate, the first parades were held where the dancers would 7.1

give away free tickets to the crowd knowing that these are exactly the people they wanted at their parties. That is why i still love so much spending my time there, to see Guillermo working, now as the owner but still being the same as ever, now a real man with children and a marvellous wife, and Nito who was the owner in the first years and still is in a very good shape, all that gives me such pleasure as no other place on the beach on the island. today Sa Trinxa is not ‚only‘ a Chiringuito, it is a very good restaurant and a meeting point for many with the guarantee to have a perfect time, and more than that. All those new places, lots of them are built on commercial purposes without any beauty, with no contact to nature and without any style looking like they were teleported directly from Miami, St. Tropez or Marbella, those do not represent the image of Ibiza, as hard as some might try to make us believe. Ibiza is a magic island with magic people, you can not convert it in something that it is not. Nowadays the clubs do not interest me so much any more, so i move in places like Sa Trinxa at daytime or Km5 at nighttime to meet people and to have fun under the sky. I feel ashamed that many people take the commercial road, leaving behind the natural beauty and the magic. Guillermo and family are working hard since many years to make this place into what it is today, with a unique vibe. And i miss Dieter sin Plomo playing there, for me a DJ with an immense talent. For sure Jon sa Trinxa is a great artist as well and the other DJs spinning records there are of the finest too to enjoy unforgettable moments in peace with great ambiental sound. WHAT WAS THE IDEA BEHIND SA TRINXA? GUILLERMO: My brother Nito had the idea to create a place directly on the beach, that was in 1982 if I remember well. The 80s and 90s were a ‚little bit‘ crazy, when I was 12 years old my parents send me there to work alongside Nito and I thought ‚oh my god what‘s this?‘ but i loved it straight away, and now, since 14 years, I run the place trying to preserve the vibe, just adding a bit more seriousness but with the same spirit. It is this ‚just a bit more seriousness‘ that makes this place so special. When i came the other day and i saw you and Olivier i said 12

to myself ‚this is exactly the same as it ever was‘ as i got massive respect for you to know how to preserve it. GUILLERMO: We are no Beach Club, we are Sa Trinxa, here people of all ages, rank and nationalities come together, and we treat them all equal, there are no differences and especially no VIP areas. Here in Salinas you got something for everybody, we are the same as ever, improving in quality year after year, not in quantity nor price. WHAT HAPPENS TO THE NATURAL PARK OF SALINAS? GUILLERMO: For the moment i don‘t see that they do a lot for the park, we are the only ones that clean the beach and take care of the environment. But what really sucks is the problem of the ambulant sales. We got at least 40 of them going around Salinas selling everything from fruits, drinks, CDs, sunglasses, even drugs. They sell it in front of our eyes and this affects our service, our sales and the image. We spoke to the Government and the Mayor, we do not understand why we have to fulfill all sorts of restrictions when they sell hot fruit cut with an oxidized knife, premixed Mojitos and whatever more. Where are the sanitary controls for that, we have to pay for all and they for nothing. The answer from the Government is there is not enough money to get hold of them. In the beginning it was one or two, selling products from their home countries and we gave them water and bocadillos because we felt sorry for them, but today this is a real Mafia, an invasion. Another problem we got is that there are places who sell tickets for the dayparties in their Beach Clubs from 6 pm onwards and they take away our people, all of a sudden the beach gets empty because they offer them a reduced price if they come early. With this practice we loose a very good time slot, the cocktail hours, as we do not make much money on food because the quality is very good for a reasonable price. And finally I do not understand the politics of the opening hours of the clubs. Before you could go for dinner around 11pm, then have a few drinks somewhere else before going to the clubs, then in the morning to Space for a great after-hour before getting back to the beach, to sleep or directly to work. Today there is no official after hour in Ibiza, in any other place in Spain like Benidorm

or any village, or many other places on earth you can go partying for 24 hours however you want. If you tell this to anybody they stare at you with disbelieving eyes, having in mind that officially it was Ibiza who invented the after hour. You can not avoid that people make after hours, after leaving a club you just can not go home, and if they would let one club open its doors all the people would be in the same place, not distributed all over the island in private houses or wherever.

HOW DO YOU SEE SA TRINXA IN 20 YEARS?

OLIVIER, CUÉNTANOS CÓMO CONOCISTE EL SA TRINXA.

GUILLERMO: If we are still alive it will be pretty the same. You always have to improve, in fact this year we refurbished the whole kitchen, now we can truly work professional and productive, not to increase prices but quality and service.

OLIVIER: Hace muchos años, estaba pasando por Salinas, por el Guaraná y Malibú, cuando vi este chiringuito, al final de todo, y me enamoré instantáneamente. Era un lugar auténtico, con buena comida; y allí estaba Nito llevándolo y Guillermo era todavía un niño de 12 años, pero ya estaba trabajando allí. Me hice amigo de ellos y la cosa empezó a crecer; montamos las primeras fiestas de luna llena y luna mágica, donde se reunía toda la gente de Ibiza, vestida de blanco, festejando y bailando hasta las 10 de la mañana.

This is the direction which the island needs to follow, the rise of quality, not quantity. We live in such a privileged place we have to pamper the people who come, not steal from them. We are the place with the best prices in Salinas, we do not want to steal from the people, we live well and that is enough for me, if I see my clients smiling this is my biggest reward. I don‘t care for low class, middle class or high class tourism, we all have the right to go to the beach and have some great food. If you can then order a T-Bone Steak, if not then take a bocadillo, all for a reasonable price. OLIVIER: This is the secret of success, we have to give it all so people are happy and feel well-attended, we shall not attack each other to mark our territory trying to kill our neighbour. Freedom is possible, we achieve it from the inside and live and let live. THIS SEEMS TO BE THE PERFECT PHRASE TO END THIS CONVERSATION. THANK YOU SO MUCH BOTH OF YOU, YOU ARE OF THE GREATEST THIS MAGIC ISLAND HAS TO OFFER.

Se convirtió en un punto de referencia, no sólo en días de fiesta, sino todos los días. Ya empezaba a formarse una familia muy íntima, se hicieron las primeras paradas de bailarinas y bailarines de las discotecas, dejando invitaciones a toda la gente, porque sabían que esto es la familia de Ibiza, la gente que quieren que vengan a su club. Por esto hoy en día, para mí, ir allí, ver a Guillermo todavía trabajando, ahora como dueño, pero de la misma manera, hecho un hombre, casado, con hijos y una mujer maravillosa, y ver a Nito, su hermano mayor que llevó el Sa Trinxa en los primeros años y que está estupendo hoy en día, me da tanto gusto y alegría, más que ningún otro sitio en la playa. Hoy en día el Sa Trinxa no solo es un chiringuito, es un restaurante estupendo, un punto de referencia para muchos y, sobre todo, una garantía de pasárselo bien, más que bien. Todos los sitios nuevos, muchos de ellos auténticas horteradas hechas de forma comercial, sin belleza, sin contacto con la naturaleza y sin un estilo auténtico, que parecen sacados directamente de Miami, St .Tropez o Marbella, no son la imagen de esta isla, por más que algunos quieran hacérnoslo creer. 7.1

Ibiza es una isla mágica con gente mágica, no se puede convertir en algo que no lo es. Como a mí hoy en día las discotecas no me interesan tanto, pues hay que estar en lugares como Sa Trinxa por el día o Km5 por la noche para tener un punto de encuentro, de convergencia y de placer, estando a gusto al aire libre. Me da mucha lástima ver el camino que está tomando mucha gente por lo comercial, dejando atrás la belleza natural y la magia. Guillermo y toda la familia llevan trabajando muchos años para tener el local tal como lo tienen, con un ambiente único en esta isla. Echo mucho de menos a Dieter sin Plomo que, para mí, es uno de los DJs con un talento espectacular. Jon Sa Trinxa también es un gran DJ y un artista increíble, y los demás DJs que están allí ofrecen una música muy selecta y perfecta para el lugar, para disfrutar de días inolvidables en tranquilidad con un sonido adecuado. GUILLERMO, ¿CUÁL FUE LA IDEA (POR DETRÁS) DE SA TRINXA? GUILLERMO: La idea fue de mi hermano Nito, crear un sitio directamente en la playa, en 1982, si no me equivoco. Los años 80 y 90 fueron ‘un poco locos’, y cuando tenía 12 años mis padres me dijeron ‘tú, a trabajar al chiringuito’. Para mí fue una auténtica locura, yo dije ‘mama mia, ¿qué es esto?’ pero me encantó, y desde hace ya 14 años lo llevo yo siguiendo la misma línea, intentando darle un poco más de seriedad, pero con el mismo espíritu. Es este ‘solo un poquito más de seriedad’ que la da carisma a este lugar. El otro día, cuando me encontré con vosotros dos, me dije ‘esto es lo mismo desde tantos años’ y os tengo un cariño enorme por saber conservarlo. GUILLERMO: No somos un beach club, somos el Sa Trinxa, viene gente de todas las edades, de todas las clases y nacionalidades. Tratamos a todos igual, no hay diferentes zonas y ni hablar de Vip. En Salinas tienes de todo, para todos, y nosotros somos los de siempre, mejorando año tras año en calidad, no en cantidad ni en precio. Y ¿QUÉ PASA CON EL PLAN DEL PARQUE NATURAL? GUILLERMO: Por el momento no veo que hagan mucho por el parque, somos nosotros los que mantenemos la playa limpia y cuidamos del medioambiente, lo que está jodido es el tema de la venta ambulante. Tenemos al menos 40 personas vendiendo de todo, desde frutas y bebidas hasta gafas, CDs e incluso drogas, y esto molesta muchísimo. Primero a nosotros, que nos perjudica en la venta de nuestro servicio, pero sobre todo a nuestros clientes, que cada par de minutos alguien viene y les ofrecen sus productos. Hablamos con el Delegado del Gobierno, con la alcaldesa, no entiendo cómo nos piden tanto papeleo a nosotros y a ellos ninguno. Si pongo cinco hamacas de más me multan, pero ellos pueden vender lo que les dé la gana, frutas ardiendo cortadas con un cuchillo oxidado, mojitos de botella y cualquier otra cosa. ¿Dónde está Sanidad en estos casos?, me siento como un tonto pagando tanto y ellos cero. La respuesta del Gobierno es que no hay presupuesto para controlar esto. En un principio eran dos o tres negros que venían vendiendo cosas de su país y 14

les dábamos un bocadillo y un vaso de agua, porque nos daban pena, pero hoy en día esto es una auténtica invasión, una auténtica mafia. Otro problema que tenemos es que hay sitios que, ya a partir de las 6 de la tarde, venden entradas a los beach clubs y nos quitan la gente. De repente la playa se vacía y todos se van a los beach clubs, porque si entran pronto les hacen un buen descuento en el precio que tienen que pagar luego. Con esto todos, nosotros perdemos la hora del coctel, que es una hora muy lucrativa, ya que con la comida no ganas mucho y ofrecemos una calidad muy buena por un precio accesible. Y por último, no entiendo la política de las restricciones musicales en torno a la hora de apertura y cierre de los locales. Antes se salía a las 23h a cenar y a tomar una copa, luego al club y a las 6 de la mañana al Space para el after hasta mediodía, y los que querían seguir se venían a las playas o se iban a dormir o a trabajar directamente. Hoy en día no hay after oficial en Ibiza, en muchos otros lugares, como Benidorm o cualquier pueblo español o a nivel mundial no existen estas restricciones, la gente se va de marcha 24 horas, como les da la gana. Si le cuentas a alguien que aquí esto no existe, te miran con cara rara, ¡ya que éramos uno de los sitios que inventaron toda esta marcha! No puedes evitar que la gente siga después de las 6 de la madrugada, y si abres un club, los tienes a todos juntos, controlados en un mismo lugar, no distribuidos por toda la isla en casas privadas o dónde sea. OLIVIER: A mí me encantaba salir por la mañana, recién duchado e irme al Space a bailar, ¡era una pasada! GUILLERMO, ¿CÓMO VES EL SA TRINXA EN 20 AÑOS? GUILLERMO: Si estamos vivos, lo veo igual que ahora. Hay que mejorar siempre, de hecho este año hemos reformado toda la cocina. Ahora sí que se puede trabajar muy bien y de forma muy productiva, no para incrementar el precio, sino la calidad del servicio. Es este el camino que debería coger la isla, no aumentar el precio, sino la calidad. Estamos en un lugar muy privilegiado y tenemos que mimar a la gente que viene, no robarles a toda costa. GUILLERMO: Somos el lugar de esta playa con los mejores precios. No queremos forrarnos a costa de la gente; vivimos bien y esto es bastante para mí. Ver la cara de los clientes contentos es el mejor premio que podemos tener. A mí me da igual el turismo alto, medio, bajo, todos tenemos derecho de ir a la playa y comer algo; aquí te puedes comer un chuletón o un bocadillo, todo por un buen precio. OLIVIER: Este es el secreto del éxito, tenemos que dar lo mejor de nosotros para que la gente se sienta bien atendida, no atacándonos el uno al otro para marcar terreno y matar al vecino. Who are we? Ibosim is born out of the vision of three friends who decided to join forces sharing their enthusiasm to create a beer of very high quality made out of natural ingredients. Their love for artisan beer and Ibiza fuse together in this project, giving birth to Ibosim Summer Ale, a genuine beer. Ibosim was the name that the Carthaginians gave our island and it means ‘city of the god Bes’. Bes is considered the god of good humor, diversity and joy, amongst many other skills, and the Ibosim beer is an authentic homage to him and the unique character of this island. Let’s clink our glasses and drink on his health! This beer of very high fermentation is an interpretation of the classic summer Ale, traditionally from England, and was especially elaborated to refresh us in the ibiçencan summer heat. With a medium grade of alcohol, a light bitter taste with a full aroma. Ibosim is elaborated from two types of malt (pale and cara munich), a slight touch of oat, three types of hop (simcoe, columbus and citra) and highly fermented yeast. This combination of elements, precisely balanced, gives birth to a beer of golden colour with a touch of copper and a creamy white spume. Aroma: The smell releases citric notes and mature fruits like mango or peach giving the beer a tropical touch. Taste: Once in the mouth it enters with a slight bitter but fresh note and the very subtle caramelized taste of malt appears. Those initial sensations give place to citric and spicy notes, maintaining an exotic character. The final taste is of a light bitterness but very refreshing. Altogether a beer you can not miss and once you’ve tried it you won’t stop, as we did when we tried it first. 10 of 10 points from the dubious!

Some of you might have already heard about the ‘Law of Attraction’ - there are several movies about it, several books talk about it and it all seems to be so easy, theoretically... The first appearance of this ‘law’ came from Phineas Parkhurst Quimby, a clockmaker in New England in the 19th century. His ‘new thought movement’ set the basic frames for this theory, saying that whatever your thoughts are will manifest. Wikipedia says about it: New Thought, sometimes known as Higher Thought, promotes the ideas that Infinite Intelligence, or God, is everywhere, spirit is the totality of real things, true human selfhood is divine, divine thought is a force for good, sickness originates in the mind, and “right thinking” has a healing effect. That might sound a bit presumptuous but if you think it over there lies a lot of truth within.

this thought with one possible explanation - it just can not grow any bigger in our skull. Now that we know that the thought is what moves the world around us it seems logic that we are able to influence actively what is and will happen to us in a certain way. In the movie ‘The Law of Attraction’ it is said that by imagining what you want it will manifest and you can achieve anything just by thinking of it. This is, as a matter of fact, not true, as is most of the movie itself. After watching it the first time i was deeply impressed but, after finding out that all characters in the movie are fictitious and played by actors, the disillusion was even bigger than the fascination in first place.

Let’s have a look on some facts first (for all you practicioners out there): As we know from quantum physics everything is connected, we are all the same yet different because everything vibrates on different frequencies. Everything is made out of the same elements, only the composition and frequency gives every thing its appearance, its identity. Just by accepting this fact you must admit that the biggest and smallest is the same, there is no difference in any of it, one for all and all for one.

What happens is that, even though you think of a specific wish to manifest you are actually moving away from its fulfillment, not towards it. This happens because you are perfectly aware of the lack of it and are manifesting its absence rather than moving towards its manifestation. This leads to disappointment and you are further away than ever of what you want to achieve. It is impossible to get where you want to be by being aware of its absence, you defeat your own purpose by sending out negative vibrations.

We as humans are made of the most complex combination of elements, but there is one factor that really marks the difference: The thought. In recent years the thought became the center of attention for many, we still know very little about how our brain works and what is it that makes it so powerful but as a fact we know that our brain is able to think, combine, create and manifest in a unique way like no other living organism on our planet. In fact, nobody knows exactly why our brain is so much more developed then the brain of other living beings on earth, it is of a far bigger size and wrinkled to still fit into our skull. Some say it was an injection of extraterrestrial ‘intelligence’ that made our brains grow to the actual size, some say it was a natural evolution to fit our needs. But why then does it not keep growing as we seem to get more and more intelligent? But this is not the topic of this article, i may refer to it on a follow-up online, so let’s end

The right way to do it is imagining the feeling of how it would be if you already achieved what you wanted, in other words do not say ‘I want (or need) money, imagine the feeling of financial wellbeing even before you get the money, like this you will attract it to get to this feeling, in any way. Another example is the thought of ‘I want (or need) a new car, it does not work because you think of you not having the car, if you instead like the feeling of security that comes with having a new car it will come your way, and even more, other things that match this feeling will come your way too. Sounds magic but is the result of pure quantum physics and, believe it or not (there we go!) for me it works perfectly. So next time you are in desperate need of something let go of the desperation, let go of the thought of ‘need’, instead imagine you already have it and it will come your way sooner or later. 7.1

This is not the key to everything you ever dreamed of, don’t get too excited, but by practicing it you will see that your life will move in the direction you imagine it to go. Conclusion? One of the oldest proverbs ever told: Be very aware of what you wish for, it could actually become true.

COMO CONSEGUIR LO QUE REALMENTE QUIERES Es posible que algunos de vosotros ya hayáis oído hablar de la ‘Ley de Atracción’ – existen varias películas sobre ella, varias libros hablan sobre ellas y todo parece ser tan fácil, en teoría… La primera aparición de esta ‘ley’ proviene de Phineas Parkhurst Quimby, un relojero de Nueva Inglaterra, en el siglo XIX. Su ‘nueva corriente de pensamiento’ marcó las líneas generales de esta teoría, afirmando que cualesquiera que sean tus pensamientos, estos van a manifestarse. Wikipedia dice sobre esto: El Nuevo Pensamiento, en ocasiones conocido como Pensamiento Superior, promueve las ideas de que la Inteligencia Infinita, o Dios, está en todas partes, el espíritu es la totalidad de las cosas reales, la verdadera personalidad humana es divina, el pensamiento divino es una fuerza del bien, la enfermedad se origina en la mente y el “pensamiento de bien” tiene un efecto curativo. Esto puede sonar un poco presuntuoso, pero si lo piensas un poco hay un montón de verdad en todo esto. Primero echemos un vistazo a algunos datos (para todos los profesionales ahí fuera): Como sabemos gracias a la física cuántica, todo está conectado, todos nosotros somos iguales pero diferentes, porque todo se mueve en diferentes frecuencias. Todo está creado a partir de los mismos elementos, solamente la composición y la frecuencia le proporciona a cada cosa su apariencia, su identidad. Simplemente al aceptar este hecho debes admitir que lo más grande y lo más pequeño son lo mismo, no existe ninguna diferencia en ninguno de ellos, uno para todos y todos para uno. De hecho, nadie sabe con exactitud por qué nuestro cerebro está mucho más desarrollado que el cerebro de los otros seres vivos de la Tierra, es de un tamaño mucho más grande y arrugado para caber en nuestro cráneo. que nuestro cerebro creciera hasta su tamaño actual, algunos dicen que fue una evolución natural para ajustarse a nuestras necesidades. Pero, entonces, ¿por qué no sigue creciendo, una vez que parece que nos estamos volviendo cada vez más y más inteligentes? Sin embargo, éste no es el asunto de este artículo, puede que haga referencia a esto en un próximo artículo online, así que concluyamos este pensamiento con una explicación posible - no puede crecer más dentro de nuestro cráneo. Ahora que sabemos que el pensamiento es lo que hace girar el mundo, parece lógico que seamos capaces de, en cierta manera, influir de forma activa en lo que nos sucede y lo que nos va a suceder. En la película ‘La Ley de la Atracción’ se dice que al imaginar lo que deseas, esto se manifestará y podrás alcanzar cualquier cosa simplemente con pensar en ello. Esto, de hecho, no es cierto, como tampoco lo es la mayor parte de la película en sí misma. Después de verla por primera vez, estaba sumamente impresionado, pero después de saber que todos los personajes de la película son ficticios** y están interpretados por actores, la desilusión fue incluso mayor que la fascinación inicial. Lo que sucede es que, aunque pienses en un deseo específico para que se manifieste, tú estás en realidad alejándote de su cumplimiento, en lugar de ir en dirección a él. Otro ejemplo es el pensamiento de ‘Quiero (o necesito) una bici nueva’, no funciona porque piensas en que tú no tienes una bici, si en lugar de esto te gusta el bienestar que procede de tener una bici nueva, esto te sucederá y, más aún, otras cosas que corresponden con esta sensación también te sucederán. Suena a magia, pero es el resultado de pura física cuántica y, lo creas o no (¡otra vez lo mismo!), conmigo funciona a la perfección. Así que la próxima vez que tengas la necesidad apremiante de algo, olvídate de la desesperación, olvídate del pensamiento de ‘necesidad’ y, en su lugar, imagina que ya lo tienes y lo conseguirás tarde o temprano. Esta no es la clave para todo lo que has soñado, no te alegres demasiado, pero al practicarlo vas a notar que tu vida se moverá en la dirección que te imaginaste que lo haría. ¿Conclusión? Uno de los proverbios más antiguos jamás dichos: Ten cuidado con lo que deseas, porque puede hacerse realidad.

San Carlos hosts the classic Bar Anita, THE reference for breakfast, bocadillos, tapas etc… San Juan is just as original, there the place is called Vista Alegre, or try the Giri café with their new fantastic restaurant. In San Lorenzo La Paloma is where you should go, not just good breakfast but a fantastic brunch and buffet as well! In San Miguel you have to visit the ‘Café of the false teeth’ in the market place, coffee for 1 Euro! Sta. Gertrudis, still my favourite, offers savoury breakfasts from 08.00h at Can Partit or fancy Musset, good breakfast, breads and midday menus are back. If you stay in San Antonio you should visit the very end of the port, there you find the Café des Port, best food at best prices. Or try Kumharas in the west end, they stay open the whole day, with breakfast, lunch, exotic dinner and unique Ibiza Spirit. In San Rafael you should try the Bar Cruce, THE place for a strong coffee and the latest gossip on the big terrace. Sta. Ines offers the famous Bar Cosmi, not just for Breakfast.

In Salinas my first choice was, is and will always be the one and only Sa Trinxa (read our article in this edition to find out the story behind the legend), unique crowd, balearic beats and high quality food for a reasonable price… and try the Sangria! Jockey Club, the adjacent Malibu and Guaraná are beautiful spots to disconnect and enjoy life. In Es Cavallet, on the other side of Salinas, you can find the refurbished Es Cavallet Chiringuito or the Chiringuay further down the beach, the latter is home to the more colourful crowd - a dream! In Playa d’en Bossa you find hot spots in its true sense, starting with Delano - fashionable music, cocktails and more - La Plage by l’Elephant is just as cool and the Nassau Beach is high quality service at a high price – but worth it. Sirocco is a real beauty and very reasonable plus you got a great range of high quality dayparties there. Ushuaia added a new party hotel to their existing venue, worth a visit but not for everyone, ukwis... On the very end you find Coco Beach – my tip is the Currywurst! And Bora Bora just goes on and on and on…! Cala Nova behind Es Canar is a gorgeous beach to relax and sunbath, plus you will find Atzaro Beach, a perferct spot to dine, enjoy life and see and be seen. In Es Canar you find the new Nikki Beach, a franchise from Miami, in front of the Hotel s’Argamassa. Chirincana in Es Canar is the best spot to do some water-sports in a most cool surrounding - our tip! Enough tourists? Cala d’Hort offers the view to the legendary Es Vedra, 360 meters of magnetic rock – a must. Sa Caleta is a dream for bathing, as is Es Codolar behind the airport, no sandy beach but inside the water yes, and this is just crystalline - and you can take your dog even in high season! Cala Jondal presents Yemanja and Tropicana for food, Blue Marlin for drinks - very posh and perfect to spot, see and be seen. San Antonio is massive, but you have to know where to go. A must is still Café del Mar or the Golden Buddha round the corner, not to forget Kumharas, truly the best sunsets, a place you cannot miss to find the authentic Ibiza. Cala Moli is a secret tip, after San Antonio head south, follow the signs, it is worth the search! Cala Xarraca high up in the north is a must-see as well, or Cala Benirras next to San Miguel, once home to the legendary drum festival… There you find places like Elements, perfect to charge batteries. Aguas Blancas on the way to San Vicente is a perfect spot to take a dip, clear water and relatively few people. One real secret tip is the El Bigote in the Cala Mastella (after San Carlos head north and follow the signs), most fresh seafood of your life. Between Sta. Eulalia and Jesus comes Cala Llonga, follow the signs to Amante, a hidden spot surrounded by rocks, a perfect restaurant and perfect to relax and chill… We do not forget s’Estanyol, go half way from Jesus to Talamanca, take a left up the mountain and then follow the sign down to the beach, a spot to disconnect and recharge your batteries with coolest beats. Santa Eulalia has a new entry as well, the beautiful Babylon Beach on the way to Es Canar, turn right just before the big Eroski supermarket and head down. You can find all sport brands cheap in La Sirena, there are lots on the island. You have to visit the old town of Ibiza, this is the real deal, you just have to look around! Hippychic is another secret tip; you can find it in three places: c/Ses Figueres in Talamanca, Cala Vadella and the Dalt Villa in c/ Santa Cruz. In Fashion Pirate on the Vara de Rey you can get quality fashion for a reasonable price. 50 meters to the right you find Uma y Leopold, designer fashion for the stylish! A complete different experience is the Vicente Ganesh in the Marina, vintage second hand designer clothings and incredible accessoires are just a few things to explore. The price spiral in Ibiza is very widespread, there are no limits. Possibilities for extreme shopping are e.g. Heaven in Marina Botafoch, the NIC in Vara de Rey, or EGB in c/ Bartolome Rosello. The new shop from Carhartt opposite Teatro Pereyra is another hot spot for the urban inspired, as is the Religion shop a bit further into the port for the true stylish.

En San Miguel tienes que visitar el ‘Café de las dentaduras postizas’ en el mercado, ¡café por 1 Euro! Sta. Gertrudis sigue siendo mi favorito, ofrece sabrosos desayunos desde las 8:00 en Can Partit o Musset, están de vuelta los desayunos, panes y menús a mediodía. Si estás alojado en San Antonio por equivocación, o si reservaste un hotel ahí, deberías visitar el Café des Port al final del puerto, la mejor comida al mejor precio. O te vas al Kumharas, en el lado oeste, están abiertos todo el día… con desayunos, almuerzos, cenas exóticas y puro espíritu ibicenco. En San Rafael deberías probar el Bar Cruce, es EL lugar para un café cargadito y los últimos cotilleos en su gran terraza. Sta. Inés ofrece el famoso Bar Cosmi, no sólo para desayunos. ¡A TOMAR EL SOL! Si te gusta, ten cuidado, no te expongas demasiado tiempo al sol y protégete bien con un buen zumo de zanahoria, y usa protección solar natural, ¡si no tus vacaciones pueden convertirse en una pesadilla! En Salinas mi primera elección era, es y siempre será el único e incomparable Sa Trinxa (lee unestro artículo en esta edición para conocer la historia detrás de la leyenda), la mejor gente, música y comida de gran calidad a precios razonables - ¡y tienes que probar la sangría! El Jockey Club, el Malibu y el Guaraná también son lugares muy bonitos para desconectar y disfrutar de la vida. En Es Cavallet, al otro lado de las Salinas, encuentras el recién renovado El Chiringuito o, bajando más por la playa, el Chiringuay, en este último es donde se junta la gente más pintoresca. ¡Un sueño! En Playa d’en Bossa encontrarás lugares de moda en el verdadero sentido de la palabra, empezando con Delano, música de moda, cócteles y más, La Plage de l’Elephant es igual de cool y el Nassau Beach ofrece excelente calidad a precios elevados – pero vale la pena. Sirocco es una auténtica belleza y muy razonable, además allí tienes una gran variedad de fiestas diurnas de calidad. Ushuaia añadió un nuevo party hotel a sus instalaciones existentes, merece una visita, pero no es para todo el mundo, ukwis(?)... Al final, encuentras Coco Beach, yo recomiendo la Currywurst… ¡Y el Bora Bora sigue y sigue y sigue…! Cala Nova detrás de Es Canar es la playa perfecta para relajarse y tomar el sol, además encontrarás Atzaro Beach, un lugar perfecto para cenar, disfrutar de la vida, ver y ser visto. En Es Canar encontrarás el Nikki Beach, una franquicia de Miami, enfrente del Hotel s’Argamassa. Chirincana, también en Es Canar, es EL sitio para los deportes acuáticos en un entorno supercool - ¡nuestro tip! Cala d’Hort te ofrece la vista a la legendaria Es Vedra, 360 metros de roca magnética… Sa Caleta es un sueño para bañarse, al igual que Es Codolar, detrás del aeropuerto. Está situado en una playa de piedras, pero el agua es cristalina – ¡y puedes llevarte a tu perro incluso en temporada alta! Cala Jondal presenta el Yemanja, el Blue Marlin y el Tropicana, todos muy fashion y perfectos para relajarse, ver y ser visto. San Antonio es muy grande, pero tienes que saber muy bien adónde ir. Un sitio que no te debes perder es el Café del Mar o el Golden Buddha a la vuelta de la esquina, y no hay que olvidar Kumharas (de nuevo), obligatorio para las mejores puestas de sol, ¡¡un lugar que no te puedes perder si quieres encontrar la verdadera Ibiza!! Cala Moli es un consejo secreto - después de San Antonio, en dirección norte, sigue las indicaciones, ¡merece el trabajo que cuesta encontrarlo! Cala Xarraca, en la punta norte, es otro sitio que deberías visitar, aunque después del fuego está bastante quemado, o

Cala Benirras al lado de San Miguel, donde antes se celebraba el legendario festival de tambores… Allí encontrarás lugares como Elements, perfecto para cargar las pilas. Aguas Blancas, de camino a Cala San Vicente es el sitio perfecto para pararse y darse un baño, la mejor agua y relativamente poca gente. Entre Sta. Eulalia y Jesús está Cala Llonga, desde allí sigue las indicaciones a Amante, el restaurante perfecto escondido entre las rocas, lo mejor para relajarse… No nos olvidemos de s’Estanyol, a mitad de camino entre Talamanca y Jesús, gira a la izquierda subiendo la montaña y luego sigue los carteles hasta la playa. Un lugar para desconectar y recargar las pilas… Santa Eulalia tiene también un nuevo lugar, el hermoso Babylon Beach en el camino a Es Canar, gira a la derecha justo antes del gran supermercado Eroski y ve hacia abajo. Un ambiente cool y los relajantes beats de George Solar te esperan. ¿Vamos de compras? Claro que sí, ¡estás de vacaciones! Nombrar todos los sitios sería imposible, así que haremos nuestra selección: Justo antes de San Carlos te encuentras con Las Dalias, que es donde está el único mercado hippy, ahí todo el mundo encuentra algo realmente original. Para cosas de cuero deberías ir a Darío Bomé en San Miguel, a la tienda de Manfred Postel en Sta. Inés o a Te Cuero en Sta. Gertrudis, o combinar playa y compras en el Salinas parking, con los mejores complementos de cuero de HechoaMano que hayas visto jamás. Para souvenirs y moda, visita Histericcompliments, en Vara del Rey. En la Sirena encuentras todas las marcas deportivas a buen precio, hay muchas en la isla. Deberíais visitar D’alt Villa de Ibiza, esa es la verdadera Ibiza, ¡sólo tienes que mirar a tu alrededor! Hippychic es otro consejo secreto; hay tres en la isla que se encuentran en c/Ses Figueres en Talamanca, Cala Vadella y en el Dalt Villa en la c/ Santa Cruz. En Fashion Pirate en Vara de Rey puedes comprar artículos de moda por un precio razonable, igual que en el Elements from Ibiza, justo al lado. A 50 metros a la derecha encuentras Uma y Leopold, moda de diseño muy guapa. Una experiencia diferente es Vicente Ganesh, en la Marina, moda vintage de segunda mano y accesorios increíbles, aparte de otras joyas. La espiral de precios en Ibiza está muy extendida, no hay límites, ejemplos de las posibilidades de compras extremas son: Heaven en Marina Botafoch, el NIC en Vara del Rey, o EGB en la c/ Bartolomé Rossello. También contamos con las grandes cadenas gracias a la UE, la primera entrada es la tienda de Zara, detrás de la Vara de Rey. La nueva tienda de Carhartt, enfrente del Teatro Pereyra, es otro lugar clave para los de inspiración urbana, como también lo es para los modernos la tienda Religion, que se encuentra un poco más adelante en el puerto. ¿HAMBRE? una necesidad básica, y aquí en Ibiza hay que prestarle especial atención, ya que las noches son muy exigentes. Hay Power food en varios sitios, como el Tap Nou en el centro de Ibiza, donde verduras y frutas del día se convierten en tu zumo o ensalada. Otra alternativa es el Pasión en Playa d’en Bossa, todo casero de buenísima calidad. ¿Rápido, fresco, bueno y barato? Comida San Juan y Los Pasajeros en Ibiza ciudad, cerca de la Plaça del Parque. Bar1805 en lo alto del Dome es una auténtica escapada de las prisas y perfecto para unos mejillones a la francesa y mucho más, además deberías probar su cóctel de absenta – ¡ye ha! ¿Pescado fresco? Si quieres huir del furor de la EDM, entonces Ibiza Rocks es tu elección. Los miércoles presentan su propia fiesta Ibiza Rocks y los viernes We are Rockstars, ambas con grandes grupos y nuevos talentos de Ibiza para una experiencia única. La última entrada es el Gala Night en Benimussa (San Antonio), los sábados se celebra el Zoo Project, unas de las últimas fiestas de Ibiza que son de día. Tienen unos line-ups muy interesantes….

¿FIESTA POR EL DÍA? Las fiestas diurnas también tienen una nueva dimensión, el Ushuaia Beach Hotel y el nuevo Tower Hotel, en Playa d’en Bossa, proporcionan uno de los eventos diurnos más exclusivos, como el Be Crazy, los miércoles y Loco Dice’s Used & Abused, los jueves. Pero ten cuidado en la puerta, a veces pueden ser un poco complicados… También deberías intentar una de las numerosas fiestas en barco, algunas de ellas empiezan en Figueretas, cerca de Ibiza, van hasta Formentera y vuelven, otras empiezan en San Antonio, llevándote alrededor de Es Vedra, para una puesta de sol inolvidable. El BHS en Salinas también acogerá algunos eventos diurnos muy underground, nosotros de dub presentaremos un evento especial el domingo 18 de agosto, justo antes de que Lo Cura se apodere del lounge en Space, ¡estáte atento, más información dentro de poco! En San An los clubs son Eden y Es Paradis – las mejores fiestas de Eden son el regreso de Toolroom Knights los lunes, Our House los martes y Judgement los viernes. Es Paradis continúa con su famosa Fiesta del Agua los miércoles y con Hed Kandi los sábados. IO prueba su nuevo lugar El Destino, un paraiso cerca de Ibiza con vistas a Formentera en un entorno privilegiado. El Urban Space Art Hotel, en la ciudad de Ibiza, es otra nueva incorporación, alojamiento en un ambiente artístico, cada habitación está diseñada por un artista diferente. From July 12th to October 4th Sankeys will play host to 13 provocative parties that take guests on a journey through Audiofly’s Flying Circus Party concept. SVEN, IT IS A PLEASURE AND AN HONOR TO FINALLY WELCOME YOU IN DUB, AS ONE OF OUR FIRST AND MOST LOYAL CLIENTS AND AS ONE OF MY ROLE MODELS AS DJ. IF THEY WOULD HAVE TOLD YOU WHERE YOU STAND TODAY WHEN YOU STARTED PLAYING RECORDS, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE SAID? I would have laughed but at the same time i would have been very happy as it sounds fantastic. WHAT DO YOU SAY ABOUT THE MODERN TECHNOLOGICAL TOOLS OF A DJ? Regarding the players the spectrum is very wide. The amount of equipment in a booth looks more like a recording studio. But i have to say that this is in no way a reference for quality of a performance or the music itself. Quite the opposite: Many times it seems that the equipment takes too much off the attention of the DJ and leads to not taking care of the crowd. Even more, today a DJ seems to be more of a producer then a DJ. The tracks are not respected as a whole, they get mashed up. This leads to what we call functional sound: superficial cheap showmanship or razzmatazz and white noise breaks with idiotproof hands-upguarantee! WHAT IS IMPORTANT IN A DJ SET? For me the most important is the good vibe on the dancefloor. Depending on the length of the set i love to vary working slowly towards peaktime. Magic in music and on the floor, this is my credo! YOU LOVE LONG SETS, WHAT WAS YOUR LONGEST? More than 30 hours! This happens every season. WHAT IS IMPORTANT IF ONE WANTS TO START DJING? That you like to dance and make people dance, because it is of the most beautiful in this world. WHERE DO YOU GET THE ENERGY TO START OVER AGAIN EVERY YEAR? The love of music and the ritual of dancing. YOUR PERFECT DAY? There are various perfect days for me. Ultimately getting up and looking into the eyes of my son is the most precious for me. I like to start the day swimming or running. To spend a day with family and friends on the beach, including a late-lunch, or staying at home listening to the latest releases, it depends on my mood.

HOW IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE GERMAN GEMA? The GEMA is very important, it preserves the author’s rights. But unfortunately the whole association is completely out of date and most of the time very unfair. Especially our music is not captured the right way. This needs a complete reformation. But how? DOES THE GLOBAL EDM HYPE DAMAGE OUR SCENE? I don’t think so. But the business created around it is scary. I can’t displace any pleasure from this hype, it is all too superficial for me. The image of a DJ is seriously damaged, let me just mention rubber boats, sync buttons, premixed sets fitting into the ‘pyromanic’ show and being celebrated for all this squealing and scrambling. But finally the one or the other might get to the core: Techno, hehehe... we will see. WHAT MEANS IBIZA FOR YOU? It is a part of me and means very much to me. IF YOU WOULD HAVE A MAGIC WAND AND COULD CHANGE THREE THINGS ON IBIZA, WHAT WOULD THEY BE? First i would improve all means of transportation from, to and on Ibiza. Then no more off-times. And last a bit more hippie spirit, like in the old times. WHAT MEANS VIP FOR YOU? Very Important Person. But nowadays it seems to be enough to book an expensive table in a club to be important. The significance of the VIPs is a wrong signal for our scene. Especially here in Ibiza it was never about elitary behaviour but unity and tolerance. COCOON IS A BIG FAMILY, HOW DO YOU KEEP IT TOGETHER? With ideas, visions and passion! We got a big family of dedicated colleagues and friends who love to take care and preserve the good quality in our scene. WHAT MUSIC DO YOU LISTEN TO IF IT IS NOT CLUB MUSIC? SVEN, ES UN PLACER Y UN HONOR DARTE POR FIN LA BIENVENIDA EN DUB, COMO UNO DE NUESTROS PRIMEROS Y MÁS LEALES CLIENTES Y COMO UNO DE MIS MODELOS A SEGUIR COMO DJ. SI CUANDO EMPEZASTE A PINCHAR TE HUBIESEN CONTADO DÓNDE ESTARÍAS HOY, ¿QUÉ HUBIERAS DICHO? Me hubiese reído, pero al mismo tiempo me habría sentido muy contento, porque suena fantástico. ¿QUÉ ME DICES DE LAS MODERNAS HERRAMIENTAS TECNOLÓGICAS DE UN DJ? En relación a los reproductores, el espectro es muy amplio. La cantidad de equipo en una cabina se parece más a un estudio de grabación. Pero debo decir que esto no es, en absoluto, un sinónimo de calidad en el desempeño o de la música en sí misma. Todo lo contrario: Muchas veces parece que el equipo le roba demasiada atención al DJ y lo lleva a no encargarse del público. Más aún, hoy en día un DJ parece que sea un productor más que un DJ. Las pistas no se respetan como un todo, se mezclan. Esto lleva a lo que llamamos sonido funcional: ¡dotes escénicas o teatralidad superficial y barata y cambios con effectos de sonido con garantía de manos arriba a prueba de tontos! ¿QUÉ ES LO IMPORTANTE EN UNA SESIÓN DE UN DJ? Para mí, lo más importante es el buen ambiente en la pista de baile. Dependiendo de la duración de la sesión, me encanta ir variando lentamente hacia el momento cumbre. Magia en la música y en la pista, ¡ese es mi credo! TE ENCANTAN LAS SESIONES LARGAS, ¿CUÁL HA SIDO TU SESIÓN MÁS LARGA? ¡Más de 30 horas! Sucede cada temporada. ¿QUÉ ES LO IMPORTANTE SI UNO QUIERE EMPEZAR A TRABAJAR COMO DJ? Que te guste bailar y hacer bailar a la gente, porque es de lo más bonito de este mundo. ¿DE DÓNDE SACAS LA ENERGÍA PARA EMPEZAR DE NUEVO CADA AÑO? El amor a la música y el ritual del baile. ¿TU DÍA PERFECTO? Existen varios días perfectos para mí. Básicamente, levantarme 56

y mirarle a los ojos a mi hijo es lo más valioso para mí. Me gusta empezar el día nadando o corriendo. Pasar el día con la familia y los amigos en la playa, incluyendo un almuerzo tardío, o quedarme en casa escuchando los últimos lanzamientos, depende de mi estado de ánimo. ¿CÓMO ES TU RELACIÓN CON LA GEMA (SOCIEDAD DE DERECHOS DE AUTOR) ALEMANA? La GEMA es muy importante, mantiene los derechos de autor. Pero, por desgracia, la entera asociación está completamente anticuada y la mayor parte del tiempo es muy injusta. En especial nuestra música no se trata de la manera adecuada. Necesita una reforma completa. Pero, ¿cómo? ¿HA DAÑADO NUESTRA ESCENA LA MODA MUNDIAL DE EDM (ELECTRONIC DANCE MUSIC)? No creo. Sin embargo, el negocio creado a su alrededor es escalofriante. No consigo sacar ningún placer de esta moda, para mí es todo demasiado superficial. La imagen de un DJ se daña seriamente, permíteme sólo mencionar los botes neumáticos, los botones de sincronización, los sets premezclados encajando en un espectáculo ‘piromanico’ y siendo celebrados con todos estos gritos y desorden. Pero, al final, uno u otro puede ser que llegue al asunto: Techno, jejeje... bueno, ya veremos. ¿QUÉ SIGNIFICA IBIZA PARA TI? Es una parte importante de mí y significa mucho para mí. SI TUVIERAS UNA VARITA MÁGICA Y PUDIERAS CAMBIAR TRES COSAS DE IBIZA, ¿CUÁLES SERÍAN? Primero, mejoraría todos los medios de transporte hasta, desde y en Ibiza. Después, no más días libres. Y, por último, un poco más de espíritu hippie, como en los viejos tiempos. ¿QUÉ SIGNIFICA VIP PARA TI? Personaje Muy Importante (Very Important Person). Pero, hoy en día, parece que es suficiente con reservar una mesa cara en un club para ser importante. La importancia de los VIPs es un indicador equivocado en nuestra escena. Especialmente aquí en Ibiza, nunca se ha tratado del comportamiento elitista, sino de unidad y tolerancia. COCOON ES UNA GRAN FAMILIA, ¿CÓMO OS MANTENÉIS UNIDOS? ¡Con ideas, visiones y pasión! Lo Cura Lounge is the baby of Lo Cura, one of the most original and true bars in Ibiza, located in Ibiza Town. The idea behind Lo Cura is as simple as it can be - quality service for a reasonable price escorted by the beats of Ibiza’s finest residents and the latest insider news. The place is all but posh, it maybe fits 40 people and the DJ booth is definitely one of the smallest on the whole island but who says size does matter? Nevertheless, whenever you enter Lo Cura you will have a good time, you never know what expects you and anything can happen in there. So it was a logical step to take things a bit further and Lo Cura Lounge was born. It is situated in the other establishment run by the ‘trio infernale’ Anita, Düsi and Dave Phillips, the Boutique Hostal Salinas, just after the roundabout of Salinas on the right side. Lo Cura Lounge means again high quality service, this time in a beautiful setup which is the refurbished garden of the Boutique Hostal Salinas. Once more you never know what awaits you but you will always leave it with a smile on your face. Still not enough, this year the Lo Cura Lounge is teaming up with best mates Sarah And Mark Broadbent from We Love, taking over the infamous El Salon in Space every other Sunday, bringing the unique Lo Cura vibe to this very special place. Special because it got the perfect size, it is the only designated smokers area and the sound system is just good enough to not blow off the roof. The reason for this cooperation is to bring back the local crowd to space, something that them three ‘manage perfectly’ as Lo Cura is known as THE place to meet the real residents of Ibiza every ever since. Music wise you can expect finest beats from the likes of Daisy Heartbreaker, Dave Phillips, Jon Woodall (Basics), Big L (We Love) and Karlos Sense amongst many others, all tailored for only one aim - the ultimate party. Doors open from 11pm until 6am but you are strongly advised to come as early as possible because word has spread that this is one of the hotspots this summer to meet the real Ibiza, the authentic lovers of a perfect party where there is only one slogan: ‘Don’t ask what the party can do for you, ask what you can do for the party’! As you can see in the pictures the opening was even more than everybody expected, and this was ‘just’ the beginning. Last year it was the simple concept of painting people’s faces (and some bodies) with finger neon colors that made other parties with a much larger budget look like fools. Where it all happens: The Vista Club, a part of Privilege, a joining together of the former Music Box and Coco Loco. Vista has become a staple of the Ibiza scene and a beacon for those who prefer the smaller sized venues on the island. Another year has flown by and it’s time once again for Cocoon Recording’s annual in-house mix compilation, this year reaching the auspicious number of eight, or Acht as it is in German. a journey through some of the imprint’s recent highlights compiled and mixed once again by the man whose name is also as synonymous Cocoon as Mr Vath himself, Chris Tietjen.

Different Marks is a collaborative project between M. Dawson (King Roc, Two Armadillo), G. Demiañczuk and V. Tarañczuk (Catz N’ Dogz). The album features a sample of some of the most talented singers and songwriters who manage to perfectly compliment the productions, including B. Westbeech, P. Randolph, J. Yuill, and C. Golden amongst others. It was finished just before the tragic death of Martin Dawson - R.I.P.

The 13 track album is one that explores the Greek’s usual signature sound – warm 4/4 beats, involving bass and cute sampling – but also leans on a whole lifetime of influence from jazz to funk, hip hop to dub to disco. Though offering plenty of dance floor dynamite along the way, No School also stands up to home listening or Sunday driving sessions.

Nothing you can hear on the album is edited or post produced – it all sounds exactly like it was when the atoms of these two individuals danced together. The result is a record with no real beginning or end. An album that tells unconscious an epic story about the path it took to make it. With each atmospheric turn it blooms like an unreal sound fairytale which leaves much space for the listeners individual imagination.

Pablo Bolivar tips a nod to his love of dub but from the opening track onward we see true reflection of his wide-ranging influences. ‘Must’ is an accomplished, cohesive LP that sees Bolivar at the height of his deft and subtle yet compelling writing. Paired with exceptional production values that give appropriate space and cosseting warmth, this writing really shines.

After burning the candle on both ends together for 3 consecutive years, Smash TV step in the arena to make a statement. It’s an album about the duality of life, the (at least) two sides to every story; it’s about 2 very different characters sharing the love for this musical niche. It’s about trying to keep out of the mental asylum as long as possible, not as easy as it sounds if your job is the best invitation for a long term stay there.

Like his first album, ‘Liquorice’, ‘Stimming’ is a clever integration of found-sounds, traditional instruments and modern technology, featuring especially tactile percussion. Since ‘Liquorice’, however, Stimming’s sound has mellowed and, though still wonderfully creative, is packaged in a more conventionally palatable form. Catch him live at Neon nights in Sankeys at some of their dates!

YouaND:THEMACHINES is the solo project of Martin who is a part of youANDme. “BEHIND” is his longplayer debut on ORNAMENTS and is a mirror of all his influences from dub techno, ambient, downbeat, Detroit techno and house music. One of his main ideas was to use no samples and generate every sound with a range of classic analog instruments using modern techniques of the year 2013 without loosing the old spirit.

Agraba is Murzaev Aramat, a young russian from Krasnodar. his track ‘Do it again’ is the incarnation of sexy, starting with a dubstyle broken beat featuring the incredible voice of Escenda. A groovekiller tailored for any warm-up to heat up the crowd instantly. Definitely one of THE tracks of this summer.

Who does not remember the great original, so the boys from Get Physical were happy to receive a great remake, very close to the original as it is hard to beat anyway, bringing back this urge to be part of a great party, listening to blissed sounds embedded by a great swinging vocal. A track every DJ should have in his set, just in case you need to make people smile at any point of your trip.

BEN PEARCE / JUST ENOUGH Well-known for his hit ‘What i might do’, Ben returns with this deep groover to conquer your heart and hips in an instant. Building up slowly, followed by a killer beat and a strong bassline, it propels any set directly to dance heaven.

MANTU FEAT. ADELINE / NEXT GEN Mantu is a fresh face in our circuit, here he teams up with Adeline, wellknown for her track ‘Love handels you’. Out comes a heavy groover building up in the most classic way, dedicated to bring you in dance mode whatever is your emotional state.

STACEY PULLEN / ANY WHICH WAY - M. BUTTRICH GREEN MIX Stacey Pullen is known for his stripped down heavy groovers somewhere settled between techno and house. This track undergoes the treatment of master Martin Buttrich, presenting two versions, the ‘red’ and ‘green’ remix. both are a real trip, but the ‘green’ mix is my fave, taking you on a journey with no return. Perfect to blend over from a smooth warm-up into the middle part of a groovy set.

SOLOMUN / YESNOMAYBE Some might say the vocals are a bit chauvinistic, i say they are just right and should not be taken too serious. Others say they are too cheesy but they are not right either. Anyway, a most heavy summer anthem for the big floors, and if you do not like the vocal version then there is the tripped out instrumental, featuring a twisted version of the vocals. The build-up is genious, it is settled somewhere between tech and house, adding even some oldschool trance elements. Definitely one of the tracks of the summer.

M.A.N.D.Y. VS. LOPAZZ F. N. MAURER / FEEL IT IN YOUR BRAIN Three versions of the same track, all very different but with one common factor - the ultimate good feel. Few manage to bring such sex into a track like M.A.N.D.Y., and when Lopazz comes in you can be sure to get all the girls on the floor, followed by the boyz. The perfect track for a hot summer night, never fails and you can even play them one after the other without getting bored for a split second.

MR. C / I’M GONNA GIVE YOU SOME Whatever Richard West aka Mr. C had in mind when he started this vical is up to each one’s imagination, i would round it up with ‘perfect beats’ or ‘satisfaction’, becaus that is what this track is about. In classic MR. C style he uses trippy elements, synths and strings to create his unique vibe somewhere between oldschool and future beats with a touch of indie.

FOREMOST POETS / REASONS TO BE DISMAL RMXS Poker Flat roar back into action with a remix package for Foremost Poets’ classic club track, ‘Reasons to be Dismal?.’ Originally out in 1989, ‘Reasons to be Dismal?’ gets three slamming new takes courtesy of some of the biggest names in the underground. My fave is the dixon update, pared down, driving house music that maintains the classic vibe of the Poets original.

ADELINE / WHAT YOU GOT The three originals on her Culprit debut speak to all these strengths. ‘What You Got’ is that appealing combination of sensuously soft vocals and “muscular” rhythm and low end that many a standout track is made of. ‘Under The Moon’ goes deeper and a bit sideways, but successfully so. GEORGE MOREL / LET’S GROOVE RMXS GPM have a special feel for ttracks that need to reappear, and this one is no exception. The original is one of the most played tracks from George, and the remix package honors the original in the most respectful way. My fave is his own remix, keeping the original vibe but adding a clean soundstructure making it a true dancefloor weeapon for those who know. A must.

BURNSKI + MANIK / YLG ‘Yellow Jacket Girl’ takes the duo´s retro house inspired sound palette and takes into a deeper and more sultry territory, with suggestive lyrics penned and sung by M A N I K adding a subtle element of sleaze to the song´s low slung groove. The perfect track to blend over a groovy warmup into a heavy floorburning set without putting the pace too high. It’s a groove thang.

JESSE MONROE / DON’T MAKE ME WAIT FOR YOU The massive ‘Don’t Make Me Wait For You’, featuring Jesse Monroe is a wonky slice of pent up tension and swelling moods, reminiscent of proto garage house classics with a touch of modern slinkiness. As the diva vocal narrative builds with a dirty bassline groove, hypnotic echoes of “Don’t Make Me Wait For You” propel the track higher to truly captivate the dancefloor. The more tangled ‘5am remix’ comes courtesy of Rebel wunderkind Subb-an.

JACK FELL DOWN / ALL WE GOT The EP’s opening track ‘All We Got’ with considered synths and tactile percussion riding on an elastic beat. ‘Just Begun’ is a little more playful. The drums ping that bit more and the synths are a little more restrained. ‘No Way’ steps it up again. It has a well rounded analogue baseline riding up and down beneath squelchy details. Stee takes the vocals on again and sings with more fluidity up top. Closing out the EP is a dub mix of ‘Just Begun’, this is the most jackin’ track on the EP and without the vocals exhibits more of a neck snapping groove.

KATE SIMKO / YOUR LOVE ‘Your Love’ sees Kate pair up once again with vocalist Jem Cooke for a beautifully balance slice of deep vocal house that shimmers and shines with a raw intensity, as Cooke’s ethereal vocals soar into the heavens. This is an outstanding production that highlights just why Kate Simko has been in such constant demand over the last few years and has all the hallmark’s of being one of the summer’s deep House hits.

Rounding of the EP with an energetic track is the way DEAF PILOW do it. ‘Can’t Stop’ opens right up with a crunchy beat and lays down some vocal cuts to widen the track and raise the energy further into the night.
