WHERE HAS ALL THE LIFE GONE? Not really knowing where to start and where to end i will try to concentrate on the obvious, although it influences so many things that i might have to jump around a bit. Watching a TV advert about a tablet with ‘parental control’ function in order to limit the usage for your kids so they got some time to experience ‘real life’ makes me realize how dominant these devices have become in our daily lives. Sitting at a coastline restaurant overseeing a beautiful seaside afternoon whilst having two teenagers ‘daddling’ with their smartphones in front of us without speaking a word or enjoying the moment has become a common scene, people walking into you whilst ‘checking’ their messages is another very annoying situation. But one of the worst moments you can possibly experience is the one where you really want to go out and have fun in a beautiful club dancing with others to music that turns you on and you realize that half of the people around you got their phones up in the air filming the moment to later enjoy it back at home to not fall into a deep depression because the holiday is over. ‘Hello? You did not enjoy it in the first place because you were busy recording! So why bother coming here? Just google it... And all the social networks are so ‘cool’ to share the moment with others that do not have the chance to be there - well you just ruined your own experience as well by not living it but ‘sharing’ it, ‘liking’ it, ‘posting’ it, WTF? Sometimes i see a sparkle of hope, especially as websites like ‘Second Life’ did not get the massive participation they probably expected (but definitely had in mind). If you can’t live your ‘First Life’ then what is it all about - a digital fantasy? OK, no problem with some gaming and diversion, but all at its time and definitely only in a certain dosage. ‘Have fun, don’t run, no photos’ is written all over a place called ‘Christiania’ in Copenhagen / Denmark, (go to our website and find out more about it ) and i can only agree with all three points.

Sin saber realmente por dónde empezar y por dónde terminar, intentaré concentrarme en lo evidente, si bien esto influye en muchas otras cosas por las que es posible que tenga que divagar un poco. Ver un anuncio de televisión sobre una tablet con la función de ‘control parental’ para limitar el uso de tus hijos, para que así tengan algo de tiempo para experimentar la ‘vida real,’ me hace darme cuenta de cómo estos aparatos se han convertido en algo tan dominante en nuestra vida diaria. Sentados en un restaurante costero, mirando un hermoso atardecer en el mar mientras a nuestro lado dos adolescentes ‘se entretienen’ con sus móviles sin decir una palabra y sin disfrutar del momento, se ha convertido en una escena de lo más común. La gente que se choca contigo mientras ‘mira’ sus mensajes es otra situación bastante irritante. Pero una de las peores situaciones que puedes vivir es cuando realmente quieres salir y pasarlo bien en un bonito club bailando con la gente al ritmo de la música que te pone y te das cuenta de que la mitad de las personas de tu alrededor está con los móviles en lo alto grabando el momento para disfrutarlo luego cuando vuelvan a casa, para no caer en una profunda depresión porque se le han terminado las vacaciones. ‘¿¡Hola!? ¡Pero si no lo disfrutaste en un primer lugar porque estabas muy ocupado grabando! Así que, ¿para qué molestarse en venir hasta aquí? Para eso búscalo en google… Y todas esas redes sociales son tan ‘geniales’ para compartir el momento con las demás personas que no han tenido la oportunidad de estar allí – bueno, tú también acabas de arruinar tu propia experiencia al no vivirla, sino ‘compartiéndola,’ ‘colgándola,’ dándole a ‘me gusta,’ ¿pero qué demonios? A veces veo una luz de esperanza al final del túnel, sobre todo cuando sitios web como ‘Second Life’ no consiguen la masiva participación que ellos probablemente esperaban (y que definitivamente tenían en mente). Si no puedes vivir tu ‘Primera Vida’, entonces de qué va todo esto - ¿una fantasía digital? Muy bien, no hay problema por jugar videojuegos y divertirse un poco, pero todo a su debido tiempo y, sin duda, sólo en determinadas dosis.

Life is not about sharing in the first place, it is about enjoying the ride at any moment without taking oneself too serious. ‘Think you’ is one of my favourite quotes lately, it is not about being egoistic but about being conscious, real or whatever you want to call it, definitely everything but seeking satisfaction behind a smart screen.

‘Diviértete, no corras, no fotos’ (‘Have fun, don’t run, no photos’) es lo que está escrito por todas partes en un lugar llamado ‘Christiania’ en Copenhagen, Dinamarca (ve a nuestro website para descubrir más info). Y no puedes sino estar de acuerdo con estos tres puntos. La vida no trata de compartir en primer lugar, se trata de disfrutar del viaje sin tomarse demasiado en serio a uno mismo. ‘Piensa tú’ es una de mis citas favoritas últimamente, no se trata de ser egoísta sino de ser consciente, verdadero o como quiera que quieras llamarlo. Sin duda, cualquier cosa menos buscar la satisfacción detrás de una pequeña pantalla.

‘ONLY AFTER THE LAST TREE HAS BEEN CUT DOWN. ONLY AFTER THE LAST RIVER HAS BEEN POISONED. ONLY AFTER THE LAST FISH HAS BEEN CAUGHT. ONLY THEN WILL YOU FIND THAT MONEY CANNOT BE EATEN.’ ― CREE INDIAN PROPHECY Living on Ibiza for many years definitely has a huge impact on one’s personality, some are more aware of it and some less. We got people here from all over the world, different cultures melt together creating multilingual future generations. When you sit in a bar drinking a coffee in the morning or midday there are no people having discussions about political issues. I wouldn’t say it is out of disinterest but living here is intense enough to not have to be informed all the time about what is going on in the rest of the world. But standing amongst another approx. 15.000 people on the Vara de Rey, half of them dressed in blue, we could feel the power of unity. ‘El pueblo unido nunca sera vencido’ is the spanish version of ‘people united can never be divided’. More than 130.000 signatures were collected, it more or less matches the number of inhabitants living on Ibiza, even if lots of the signatures came from the mainland and other countries this is still very impressive. On top so many people voluntarily participated in the whole process, you could get complaint sheets for free in many shops, bars and public institutions throughout the island and the social networks and websites were flooded with information. Lots of celebrities from all over the globe joined our fight and the local politicians finally stood up to show their solidarity leaving behind their biased daily issues. Vicent Serra, president of the local government in Ibiza, said ‘it is the first time i hear people speaking with one single voice against a project, i can not remember this happening ever. This might be the beginning of something big.’ The day the ‘Rainbow Warrior’, flagship of Greenpeace, visited the shores of Ibiza and showed their support was another emotional moment, only to set foot on this boat is amazing but much more is their commitment and dedication to environmental issues on a global scale. Ironic enough that the participating racecars of the Gumball 3000 were parked just in front of the ship - quite unique pictures... Even the government in Madrid have never experienced anything like it, and all the attempts of downscaling the environmental impact from their side or the company that wants to get a permission to start searching for oil were crushed down. Let’s face it, who seriously can pretend to ‘just look for oil’ when the only and mere purpose of this whole operation is to find and extract oil? Hundreds of thousands of acoustic bomb-like signals are emitted into the water only to find out if there is oil or not - it is not ‘just boats floating on water’ - as their spokesman said. Whales, dolphins and other sea dwellers would at least suffer from damaged drumheads losing their orientation not being able to live and reproduce themselves as they would naturally, amongst many other effects. 8.1

The mediterranean sea is in danger anyway, irresponsible overfishing, industrialization and flushing waste water into it already did great damage to it but even though this island and its shores are still a paradise with pristine waters and an intact ecosystem. This is our treasure, or, as Ramon Bauza, leader of the local Partido Popular who is in power says ‘our oils is tourism’. Who can seriously put on stake our economical future in order to maybe find oil that would not even cover 6 months of our national supply? We got more than 300 days of sun, solar power and alternative energy production plus recovery of inefficient energy consumption and a responsible and sustainable use of resources is proven to be enough and on top it lasts forever and the environmental impact is minimized.

Vivir en Ibiza durante muchos años tiene, sin duda, un enorme impacto en la personalidad de uno; algunos son más conscientes de ello, otros menos.

Sure, we all still drive cars fuelled by petrol but this is not our fault, the manufacturers didn’t do a lot to prepare themselves for the time after petrol, my car is 30 years old and consumes 10 liters of Diesel, so i ask myself ‘what have they done all those years to improve’? Ok we got cars now that realistically consume half of it but still... Hybrid and fully electric cars finally are on the rise, but damn, it’s about time!

Aquí tenemos gente de todo el mundo, diferentes culturas que se funden creando futuras generaciones plurilingües. Cuando te sientas en un bar para tomarte un café por la mañana o a mediodía, no hay gente discutiendo sobre asuntos políticos. Yo no diría que sea por falta de interés, pero vivir aquí ya es suficientemente intenso como para tener que estar informado todo el tiempo sobre lo que sucede en el resto del mundo.

Solar energy in Spain recently got an extra tax on it so you can not just install solar panels on your roof top but you have to pay taxes because you are not buying electricity from the companies - incredible but true. It can not be that for the greed of a few the future of all is endangered.

‘El pueblo unido nunca será vencido’ es la versión española del internacional ‘people united can never be divided’. Se recogieron más de 130.000 firmas, lo que más o menos coincide con el número de habitantes que tenemos en Ibiza, incluso aunque muchos de ellos procedan de la península y de otros países.

Mucha gente participó voluntariamente en todo el proceso, las hojas de reclamación se podian encontrar gratuitamente en todas las tiendas a lo largo y ancho de la isla y las redes sociales y sitios webs siguen inundados de información. Montones de famosos del mundo entero se han unido a nuestra lucha y los políticos locales por fin se han puesto en pie para mostrar su solidaridad, dejando de lado sus problemas partidistas del día a día. Vicent Serra, presidente del gobierno local de Ibiza, declaró ‘es la primera vez que oigo a la gente hablar con una sola voz en contra de un proyecto, no consigo recordar que esto haya sucedido nunca antes. Podría ser el comienzo de algo grande.’ Incluso el Gobierno central de Madrid nunca había experimentado nada igual y todos los intentos de reducir el impacto medioambiental por su parte o por parte de la compañía que quiere conseguir el permiso para empezar a buscar petróleo fueron aplastados. Vamos a ver, lo que yo digo es, ¿quién querría pretender de ‘sólo’ buscar petróleo cuando el único y mero propósito de toda esta operación es encontrar y extraer petróleo? Cientos de miles de señales acústicas parecidas a bombas se emiterán dentro del agua tan sólo para descubrir si hay petróleo o no – no son ‘simplemente barcos flotando en el agua’ – como dijo su portavoz. Ballenas, delfines y otros mamíferos sufrirán daños en los tímpanos, perdiendo su sentido de la orientación y, por tanto, no siendo capaces de vivir y reproducirse como lo harían normalmente. En cualquier caso, el mar Mediterráneo está en peligro; la pesca abusiva irresponsable, la contaminación y los vertidos de aguas residuales han causado ya gran daño a la flora y a la fauna, pero aunque la isla y sus costas son todavía un paraíso de aguas cristalinas y con un ecosistema bastante intacto, éste es nues-

tro tesoro o, como dice Ramón Bauza -líder del Partido Popular, actualmente en el poder- ‘nuestro petróleo es el turismo’. ¿Quién puede arriesgar seriamente nuestro futuro económico para tal vez encontrar petróleo que no cubriría ni tan siquiera 6 meses de nuestro suministro nacional? Tenemos más de 300 días de sol; se ha demostrado que la energía solar y la producción de energías alternativas, además de la recuperación del consumo energético inefectivo y un uso responsable y sostenible de los recursos serían lo suficiente y, además, duran para siempre y el impacto medioambiental es mínimo. Claro que los coches todavía funcionan con petróleo, pero esto no es culpa nuestra. Los fabricantes no han hecho gran cosa para prepararse para el día en el que se termine el petróleo. Mi coche tiene 30 años y consume 10 litros de diesel; así que yo me pregunto, ¿qué han hecho en estos últimos 30 años para mejorar? Muy bien, de acuerdo, ahora tenemos coches que, siendo realista, consumen la mitad de eso, pero aún así… Los coches híbridos y los coches totalmente eléctricos están por fin en alza, pero ¡maldita sea, ya iba siendo hora! La energía solar tiene un impuesto extra, así que no puedes simplemente instalar unos paneles solares en lo alto de tu tejado, sino que tienes que pagar, porque no le estás comprando electricidad a las compañías eléctricas. Increíble, pero cierto. No puede ser que por la avaricia de unos pocos el futuro de todos esté en peligro. La cereza en el pastel es que si Cairn consigue esta licencia hay cuatro proyectos similares esperando alrededor de las islas baleares pero esta informacion no se ve publicada para no crear resistencia publica por poder pararlo... 8.1

HOW ARE YOU!?!?!” FOLLOWED BY A LONG CONCISE LIST OF DEMANDS. IT USUALLY CONTAINS FREE ENTRANCE TO THE VIP SECTION IN EVERY CLUB, EVERY NIGHT WITH AS MANY FREE DRINKS AS THEY CAN POSSIBLY CONSUME. AND OF COURSE YOU ARE DRIVING THEM EVERYWHERE, RIGHT? WRONG! Now there was a time when I would stack my house full of friends from distant childhood and observe a 100 days party slowly deteriorating my house. I remember summers where I had over 250 different people stay at my house at some point or another. These days, however, I redirect them to various hotels and concierge services, and that seems to work fine. But there is one class of individual that refuses to go away: The Damned Wannabe Ibiza DJ Sensation. Now, I have a lot of DJ friends on this island, and they all know exactly what I‘m talking about. It‘s almost always some individual that used to be a follower on MySpace, or some other insignificant social network, who just happens to think that you have nothing else to do but to build this guy’s career up overnight. Huh?! Without fail, the conversation inevitably goes like this: 14

Wannabe “Hey, so do you think you can get me a gig in one of the big clubs?” (remember that at this point I have no clue who this person is, but I do presume that they have never played a professional gig before) Me: “definitely not” Wannabe: “well ok then, so if you could then just give me any gig as long as they pay the flights and hotel, that should be easy, right?” followed by “do you think 500 bucks would be in order?” It is at this point that I loose my self containment, and proceed to supply them with the Secret recipe to absolute success in Ibiza: first to get on the plane and get your good self down here. Then you crawl around the bars like a leper, begging for a chance to play for free, until one day, like a miracle, you are right there, ready with your music, ready to replace the idiot that didn‘t show up. This is the moment you have been waiting for, and you better rock the house at least twice as hard the resident. You are now on the map. So you repeat this procedure over and over throughout the season(s) until one day you get a residence in a small insignificant bar. Here you will be grateful to receive 100 bucks a day for 12 hours work. You might even be asked to clean up the bar and carry beer crates. And then you simply keep doing that for some

years until things take off, no money somewhere between 5 to 12 years. Guaranteed to work every time. This is also the description of the classic pilgrimage of the artist or craftsman. It is the mythological journey that one must inevitably pass through in order to master the conceptual understanding of the art form in question. One must travel far from home and forward to a life through one‘s love for music. It‘s a code that cannot be broken: to live through music and through music only. If the mere thought of such a journey does not scare you, then you are not doing it right. Of course there are those who don’t want to put the work in, and some of them even have the nerve to ask me if I can just let them jump the queue, as if something like that was even possible. And it is at this point that I take the time to help them understand the situation by outlining the exact economic forces that are at work in our wonderful entertainment industry. For example: It has come to my attention during my time as an event organizer that a freestanding portable chemical festival toilet can command a daily rental price of more than 300 bucks... I then proceed to explain to this mislead individual that their future (even with instant success) cannot expect to earn more than 100 a day (the economic truth is that actually they would make three times more money if as a toilet). On top of that I point out that being a new resident starting up in Ibiza they should prepare themselves, on a daily basis, to deal with three times as much shit as a festival toilet would expect to encounter at Glastonbury’s. So, to crack the Ibiza conundrum is easy as pie: Just lay down your life, past, present and future, and it can all be yours. ;-)

EL MODUS OPERANDI ES MÁS O MENOS SIEMPRE EL MISMO: “¡HOLA AMIGO! ¿QUÉ TAL ESTÁS?!?!” SEGUIDO DE UNA LARGA Y CONCISA LISTA DE EXIGENCIAS. POR LO GENERAL, ÉSTA CONTIENE ENTRADAS GRATIS A LA SECCIÓN VIP DE TODOS Y CADA UNO DE LOS CLUBS Y CADA NOCHE CON TANTAS BEBIDAS GRATIS COMO PUEDAN CONSUMIR. Y, POR SUPUESTO, LOS LLEVARÁS EN COCHE A TODAS PARTES, ¿VERDAD? ¡NO! ¡FALSO! Hubo un tiempo en el que en mi casa se amontonaban los amigos de la lejana infancia y en el que observaba como los 100 días de fiesta continua deterioraban lentamente mi casa. Recuerdo veranos en los que, en un momento u otro, había en mi casa unas 250 personas diferentes. Hoy en día, sin embargo, los redirecciono a varios hoteles y servicios de conserjería y parece que funciona muy bien. Pero existe un tipo de individuo que rehúsa irse: El Dichoso Aspirante a Ser El DJ Sensación de Ibiza. Bueno, yo tengo muchos amigos DJs en la isla y todos ellos saben exactamente de lo que estoy hablando. Se trata casi siempre de una persona que solía ser un seguidor en MySpace, o en alguna otra insignificante red social, y que parece pensar que tú no tienes nada mejor que hacer que construir su carrera de la noche a la mañana. ¡¿Eh?! Sin duda, la inevitable conversación es algo como esto:

Aspirante: “Hola, entonces ¿crees que puedes conseguirme una actuación en uno de los clubs grandes?” (recuerda que en este momento yo no tengo ni idea de quién sea esta persona, pero presumo que nunca antes haya actuado profesionalmente) Yo: “desde luego que no” Aspirante: “vale, entonces si puedes conseguirme cualquier trabajito siempre y cuando me paguen los vuelos y el hotel, eso sería fácil, ¿no?” seguido de “¿tú crees que estarían disponibles unos 500 pavos?” Llegados a este punto es cuando pierdo mi autocontrol y procedo a pasarle la receta Secreta para el éxito absoluto en Ibiza: primero, meterte en el avión y traer a tu excelentísima persona hasta aquí. Entonces, te humillas por los bares como un leproso, mendigando por una oportunidad de tocar gratis, hasta que un día, milagrosamente, estás justó ahí, listo con tu música, listo para reemplazar al idiota que no ha aparecido. Este es el momento por el que has estado esperando y es mejor que revientes la casa por lo menos dos veces más fuerte que el DJ residente. Ahora ya estás en el mapa. Entonces repites este proceso una y otra vez a lo largo de toda(s) la(s) temporada(s) hasta que un día consigues una residencia en un pequeño e insignificante bar. Aquí estarás agradecido si ganas 100 pavos al día por 12 horas de trabajo. Incluso puede que te pidan que limpies el bar y que cargues cajas de cervezas. Y entonces, simplemente sigues haciendo esto durante algunos años hasta que la cosa empiece a despegar, nada de dinero entre algo así como de unos 5 a 12 años. Garantizado que funciona el 100% de las ocasiones. Esta es también la descripción del clásico peregrinaje de un artista o artesano. Es el viaje mitológico por el que uno debe pasar inevitablemente para poder dominar el entendimiento conceptual del la forma de arte en cuestión. Uno debe viajar lejos de su hogar y hacia una vida a través del amor de uno por la música. Es un código que no puede romperse: vivir a través de la música y sólo a través de la música. Si el simple pensamiento de tal viaje no te asusta, entonces no lo estás haciendo bien. Por supuesto que existen aquellos que no quieren trabajar duro y algunos de ellos incluso tienen el valor de preguntarme si puedo simplemente dejarlos que se salten todo esto, como si algo como eso fuera posible. Y es llegados a este momento que me tomo el tiempo de ayudarles a entender la situación resumiéndoles las fuerzas económicas exactas que funcionan en nuestra maravillosa industria del entretenimiento. Por ejemplo: Llegó a mis oídos durante mi época como organizador de eventos que un baño químico portátil para un festival podía suponer un alquiler diario de más de 300 pavos… Entonces procedí a explicarle a este confundido individuo que su futuro (incluso con un éxito instantáneo) no puede esperar ganar más de 100 al día (la verdad económica es que en realidad ganarían tres veces más como un wáter). Además de todo esto, señalo que siendo nuevos residentes empezando en Ibiza deberían prepararse, a diario, para tratar con tres veces más mierda de la que un baño de festival podría encontrarse en Glastonbury. En resumen, descifrar el misterio de Ibiza es pan comido: Simplemente entrega tu vida, pasado, presente y futuro y todo podrá ser tuyo ;-) 8.1

San Carlos hosts the classic Bar Anita, THE reference for breakfast, bocadillos, tapas etc… San Juan is just as original, there the place is called Vista Alegre, or try the Giri Café with their fantastic restaurant. In San Lorenzo La Paloma is where you should go, not just good breakfast but a fantastic brunch and buffet as well! In San Miguel you have to visit the ‘Café of the false teeth’ in the market place, coffee for 1 Euro!

Sta. Gertrudis, still my favourite, offers savoury breakfasts from 08.00h at Can Partit or fancy Musset, good breakfast, breads and midday menus are back. If you stay in San Antonio you should visit the very end of the port, there you find the Café des Port, best food at best prices. Or try Kumharas in the west end, they stay open the whole day, with breakfast, lunch, exotic dinner and unique Ibiza Spirit. In San Rafael you should try the Bar Cruce, THE place for a strong coffee and the latest gossip on the big terrace. Next to the hippodrome near San Rafael you find one of the coolest true ibiçencan bars with an incredible coffee and down-to-earth prices for drinks. Sta. Ines offers the famous Bar Cosmi, not just for Breakfast.

YOU BROKE-YOUR-FAST? Then let’s go and get some sun. If you are into sunbathing be very very careful, don’t stay too long, have a carrot juice before and use natural sun protection, if not your holiday can become a nightmare! In case you get sunburned you should use yogurt or fresh lemon juice to cool it, then fresh Aloe Vera to calm it down. In Salinas my first choice was, is and will always be the one and only Sa Trinxa unique crowd, Balearic Beats and high quality food for a reasonable price… and try the Sangria! Jockey Club, the adjacent Malibu and Guaraná are beautiful spots to disconnect and enjoy life. In Es Cavallet, on the other side of Salinas, you can find the Es Cavallet Chiringuito or the Chiringay further down the beach, the latter is home to the more colourful crowd a dream! In Playa d’en Bossa you find hot spots in its true sense, starting with Delano - fashionable music, cocktails and more. Nassau Beach is high quality service at a high price – but worth it. The former Sirocco became the beachbar of the new Hard Rock Hotel and Sands is just next to it. Ushuaia’s party hotel celebrates the second year of its existence and on the very end you find a refurbished Coco Beach – my tip is the Currywurst! And Bora Bora just goes on and on and on! Cala Nova behind Es Canar is a gorgeous beach to relax and sunbath, plus you will find Atzaro Beach, a perferct spot to dine, enjoy life and see and be seen. In Es Canar you find Nikki Beach, this year they add a new hotel to their resort as well. Chirincana in Es Canar is the best spot to do some water-sports in a most cool surrounding - but be aware of the prices for drinks! Enough tourists? Cala d’Hort offers the view to the legendary Es Vedra, 360 meters of magnetic rock – a must. Sa Caleta is a dream for bathing and you must try their Café Caleta, as is Es Codolar behind the airport, no sandy beach but inside the water yes, and this is just pristine - and you can take your dog even in high season! Cala Jondal presents Yemanja and Tropicana for food and Blue Marlin for drinks - very posh and perfect to spot, see and be seen. San Antonio is massive, but you have to know where to go. A must is still Café del Mar or the Golden Buddha around the corner, not to forget Kumharas, truly the best sunsets, a place you cannot miss to find the authentic Ibiza. Cala Moli is a secret tip, after San Antonio head south, follow the signs, it is worth the search! Cala Conta hosts the Sunset Ashram, a gorgeous beach club with a pictoresque sunset and good live-music. Cala Xarraca high up in the north is a must-see as well, or Cala Benirras next to San Miguel, once home to the legendary drum festival… There you find places like Elements, perfect to charge batteries. Aguas Blancas on the way to Cala San Vicente is a perfect spot to take a dip, clear water and relatively few people. One real secret tip is the El Bigote in the Cala Mastella (after San Carlos head north and follow the signs), most fresh seafood of your life. Between Sta. Eulalia and Jesus comes

Cala Llonga, follow the signs to Amante, a hidden spot surrounded by rocks, a perfect restaurant and perfect to relax and chill… We do not forget s’Estanyol, go half way from Jesus to Talamanca, take a left up the mountain and then follow the sign down to the beach to find PK2, a spot to disconnect and recharge your batteries with coolest beats. In Santa Eulalia on the way to Es Canar you find the beautiful Babylon Beach, turn right just before the big Eroski supermarket and head down. Cool atmo and chilled beats from George Solar + friends await you. In Es Figueral the crew of Las Dalias took over the beach chiringuito and converted it into a not-so-secret spot to relax and recharge - try it out!

SHOPPING? For sure, you are on holiday! The price range is enormous, but all named here are worth a visit: Las Dalias just before San Carlos is home to the one and only Hippie market, here everybody finds something really original. For leather you should go to Darío Bomé in San Miguel, see Manfred Postel’s shop in Sta. Ines, visit Te Cuero in Sta. Gertrudis or combine beach and shopping at Salinas parking place with Hecho A Mano, best leather garments ever. For souvenirs and fashion go to Histericcompliments on Vara de Rey. You can find all sport brands cheap in La Sirena, there are lots on the island. You have to visit the old town of Ibiza, this is the real deal, you just have to look around! Hippychic is another secret tip; you can find it in three places: c/Ses Figueres in Talamanca, Cala Vadella and the Dalt Villa in c/ Santa Cruz. In Fashion Pirate on the Vara de Rey you can get quality fashion for a reasonable price. ... A complete different experience is Vicente Ganesh in the Marina, vintage second hand designer clothings and incredible accessoires are just a few things to explore. The price spiral in Ibiza is very widespread, there are no limits. Possibilities for extreme shopping are e.g. Heaven in Marina Botafoch, the NIC in Vara de Rey, or EGB in c/ Bartolomé Rosello. The shop from Carhartt opposite the taxi stand in Ibiza town is another hot spot for the urban inspired, as is the Religion shop opposite of Vara de Rey towards the port - for the true stylish. HUNGER... a basic need, and here in Ibiza you should pay special attention to it, because the nights are very exhausting. There are so many incredibly good restaurants we can not mention because of the lack of space, but here are some of the best ones: Power food is available in various places such as Es Tap Nou in the center of Ibiza, fresh veggies and fruits become your juice or salad of the day. Next alternative is Passion in Playa d’en Bossa, homemade dishes and juices of all kind will refill your batteries. Cheap, good, fresh and fast? Comida San Juan and Los Pasajeros in Ibiza Town next to the Plaça del Parque. Bar1805 on top of the Dome is a real escape from the fast and perfect for french mussels and more plus you must try their absinthe cocktail - ye ha! Fresh fish? Hotel La Marina in the port of Ibiza. High quality french and international food? Pastis on the backside of the Plaça del Parque - a must. The refurbished Sushipoint in Marina Botafoch is a hotspot for sushi and more. Want some real Indian food? Try the Ancient People on the Avenida España, best food for best price, and the Dahl is a must! Thai fusion food is available at Bambuddha Grove on the road to San Juan or at the Banyan Palace on the San José – San An road. Last but NOT least try Casa Thai 2 on Avda. La Luna Nell’ Orto in San Miguel is one of the most authentic restaurants of all times. It is situated where the first hippie market in Ibiza used to be held! In Sta. Eulalia we recommend SomiArt by Foc y Fum on the esplanade, not just perfect food but performances in a special surrounding – a must. Casa Colonial on the road to Sta. Eulalia is a real escape in another world, best fusion food and service! In Km5 on the road to San Jose you can have fantastic meat in a unique atmosphere, a real trip. A great escape is the BHS (BoutiqueHotelSalinas) just after the roundabout of Salinas, high-quality tasty food in a beautiful setting, this year they got a new chef and offer specialties from the north of spain - a must! The Can Pilot in San Rafael serves the best ‘Entraña’ (Argentinean cut of meat) on the island. Great italian food? Try the Tomate Rojo next to the Mac Donalds in Figueretas, freshest italian food to take away or inhouse. If you want to eat a REAL chicken you have to go to Can Balafia on the road to San Juan, you’ve never tried one like this before, all homemade, from the potatoes over their very own chicken to their Hierbas. Or try Juanito’s chicken just opposite the road, also a legend! In San Antonio we have to mention Kumharas again and again, finest fusion food flavoured with easy beats, plus you have to try the Spareribs in the Golden Buddha on the sunset strip of San An. Sta. Eulalia is home to Es Rickshaw, which also does fusion food at a good price! Expensive and worth it? Sa Capella up in San Antonio, El Ayoun, Clodenis and L’Elephant in San Rafael, Las dos Lunas on the Ibiza – San An road or Ama Lur by the Sta. Gertrudis roundabout. Or try the new Sublimotion in the also new Hard Rock Hotel in Playa d’en Bossa, a unique experience for all senses, including your wallet. Definitely Atzaró on the San Juan road Km15, you never saw a garden more beautiful and the food is excellent. You prefer fast food? The Huehner Karl in Sta. Eulalia for German style, Mister Kebap also in Sta. Eulalia or Albertos Doener in Playa d’en Bossa opposite Sankeys. German saussages and lots of different beers offers Frankfurt’s Ibiza in Ibiza town - a must. Best Burger? Discoburger on calle Bartolome Rosello/Ibiza. Best Sunset Dinner? Definitely Kumharas in San Antonio, las Puertas del Cielo above Sta. Ines, Sunset Ashram in Cala Conta and, in some months, Cala d’Hort with the view to Es Vedra - or any other of the countless beaches on the west side of Ibiza, you just have to find it :-) SOMETHING MISSING? The only promoter staying on the same day is Supermartxé Thursdays, Mondays we got a new party called Neon Splash, a 3D paint experience that proved to be extremely successful in the EDM scene in Europe, Wednesdays local promoter Reverse brings fresh music to the crowd, Thursdays Mass Bass will amplify the rhythm structure of ibicencan nights by mixing lots of styles together, and local partyconcept The Pharm will take over the Vista Club on Saturdays, combining sound, light, visuals and animation in a new way. Pacha is again twisting around, after last year’s excursion into the more underground parties they are back with some heavyweights. Mondays Ibiza Rocks takes over, showing their danceable side with Ibiza Rock’s House and wednesdays Steve Aoki is taking over the club. Our fave remains Solomun + 1, one of the most beloved nights of last season, showing that you need only two masters at the decks to blow a floor. El Lio hosted by the Pacha Group offers high-level Cabaret and dining in the most stylish surrounding including live performances of big stars and the one or other DJ superstar is spinning as well. One confirmed party is Be Crazy by Jean Claude Ades + friends.

Si quieres ‘DES-AYUNAR’ en Ibiza tienes varios sitios donde elegir, seguimos recomendando el Croissant Show. Desde las 7:30 en adelante puedes conseguir tu dosis de cafeína y la mejor bollería… en el Sunset Café no sólo puedes relajarte con un café, aperitivo, cerveza o lo que sea, también puedes elegir sandwiches riquísimos, pizzas y una amplia gama de cócteles y chupitos. Somos parte de la familia… En la parte de atrás, mirando a la muralla, encontrarás el Out of Time People, ¡no sólo un desayuno, sino un verdadero encuentro espiritual! Si quieres un desayuno barato y que te llene puedes ir al Hostal Parque, enfrente al Sunset Café, ¡siempre a tope e igual de bueno! ¿Estas fuera de la ciudad de Ibiza? En Jesús tienes que visitar el Bon Lloc o el San Francisco en la calle Talamanca, del lado izquierdo, o el Canadian, enfrente del Bon Lloc, con una gran variedad de cafés y bollería. Cana Negreta, en la Carretera de Sta. Eulalia, te proponemos el Bar Toni, ¡a precios muy accesibles! En Sta. Eulalia deberías visitar el Bar Cosmi, El Bueníssimo en la carretera principal o el Café Sidney dentro del puerto. San Carlos te ofrece el clásico de los clásicos - Bar Anita, punto de referencia para desayunos, bocadillos, tapas y más.… San Juan es igual de original, allí el lugar se llama Vista Alegre, o prueba el Giri Café, con su fantástico restaurante nuevo. En San Lorenzo deberías probar la Paloma, no sólo ofrece buenos desayunos, ¡también hacen fantásticos almuerzos y buffets! En San Miguel tienes que visitar el ‘Café de las dentaduras postizas’ en el mercado, ¡café por 1 Euro! Sta. Gertrudis sigue siendo mi favorito, ofrece sabrosos desayunos desde las 8:00 en Can Partit o Musset, están de vuelta los desayunos, panes y menús a mediodía. Si estás alojado en San Antonio por equivocación, o si reservaste un hotel ahí, deberías visitar el Café des Port al final del puerto, la mejor comida al mejor precio. O te vas al Kumharas, en el lado oeste, están abiertos todo el día… con desayunos, almuerzos, cenas exóticas y puro espíritu ibicenco. En San Rafael deberías probar el Bar Cruce, es EL lugar para un café cargadito y los últimos cotilleos en su gran terraza. Al lado del hipódromo, cerca de San Rafael, puedes encontrar uno de los auténticos bares ibicencos más cool, con un café increíble y precios razonables para las bebidas. Sta. Inés ofrece el famoso Bar Cosmi, no sólo para desayunos. ¿YA HAS DES-AYUNADO? ¡Pues entonces, vamos a tomar el sol! Si te gusta, ten mucho, mucho cuidado, no te expongas demasiado tiempo al sol y protégete bien tomando un buen zumo de zanahoria y usando protección solar natural, ¡si no tus vacaciones pueden convertirse en una pesadilla! En caso de que te quemes, deberías usar yogur o zumo de limón para refrescar la piel y después Aloe Vera fresco para calmarla. En Salinas mi primera elección era, es y siempre será el único e incomparable Sa Trinxa, una gente única, ritmos baleares y comida de calidad a precios razonables - ¡y tienes que probar la sangría! El Jockey Club, el Malibu y el Guaraná también son lugares muy bonitos para desconectar y disfrutar de la vida. En Es Cavallet, al otro lado de las Salinas, encuentras el recién renovado El Chiringuito o, bajando más por la playa, el

Chiringay, en este último es donde se junta la gente más pintoresca. ¡Un sueño! En Playa d’en Bossa encontrarás lugares de moda en el verdadero sentido de la palabra, empezando con Delano, música de moda, cócteles y más, La Plage de l’Elephant es igual de cool y el Nassau Beach ofrece excelente calidad a precios elevados – pero vale la pena. El antiguo Sirocco se ha convertido en el beachbar del nuevo Hard Rock Hotel y Sands está justo al lado de este. El party hotel de Ushuaia celebra su segundo año de existencia y justo al final de todo encuentras el renovado Coco Beach – ¡mi recomendación es el Currywurst! ¡Y el Bora Bora sigue y sigue y sigue…! Cala Nova detrás de Es Canar es la playa perfecta para relajarse y tomar el sol, además encontrarás Atzaro Beach, un lugar perfecto para cenar, disfrutar de la vida, ver y ser visto. En Es Canar encontrarás el Nikki Beach, este año han añadido además un nuevo hotel a su resort. Chirincana, también en Es Canar, es EL sitio para los deportes acuáticos en un entorno supercool - ¡pero ten en cuenta los precios de las bebidas! AMANTE

¿Has tenido bastante ya de turistas? Cala d’Hort te ofrece la vista a la legendaria Es Vedra, 360 metros de roca magnética – una visita obligatoria. Sa Caleta es un sueño para bañarse, y no te vayas sin probar su Café Caleta. Al igual que también es un sueño Es Codolar, detrás del aeropuerto. Está situado en una playa de piedras, pero sí hay arena debajo del agua, que es de lo más cristalina – ¡y puedes llevarte a tu perro incluso en temporada alta! Cala Jondal ofrece el Yemanja y el Tropicana para comer y el Blue Marlin para las bebidas - todos muy fashion y perfectos para relajarse, ver y ser visto. San Antonio es muy grande, pero tienes que saber muy bien adónde ir. Un sitio que no te debes perder es el Café del Mar o el Golden Buddha a la vuelta de la esquina, y no hay que olvidar Kumharas, sin duda las mejores puestas de sol, un lugar que no te puedes perder si quieres encontrar la verdadera Ibiza. Cala Moli es un consejo secreto - después de San Antonio, dirígete hacia el sur, sigue las indicaciones, ¡merece la pena buscarlo! Cala Conta alberga el Sunset Ashram, un maravilloso beach club con un pintoresco atardecer y buena música en directo. Cala Xarraca, en la punta norte, es otro sitio que deberías visitar o Cala Benirras al lado de San Miguel, donde antes se celebraba el legendario festival de tambores… Allí encontrarás lugares como Elements, perfecto para cargar las pilas. Aguas Blancas, de camino a Cala San Vicente es el sitio perfecto para pararse y darse un baño, la mejor agua y relativamente poca gente. Un consejo realmente secreto es El Bigote en la Cala Mastella (después de San Carlos ve hacia el norte y sigue las indicaciones), el marisco más fresco que hayas probado en tu vida. Entre Sta. Eulalia y Jesús está Cala Llonga, desde allí sigue las indicaciones a Amante, el restaurante perfecto, escondido entre las rocas, lo mejor para relajarse… No nos olvidemos PK2 de s’Estanyol, a mitad de camino entre Talamanca y Jesús, gira a la izquierda subiendo la montaña y luego sigue los carteles hasta la playa. Un lugar para desconectar y recargar las pilas al ritmo de los beats más cool… En Santa Eulalia, en el camino a Es Canar, encontrarás el hermoso Babylon Beach, gira a la derecha justo antes del gran supermercado Eroski y ve hacia abajo. Un ambiente cool y los relajantes beats de George Solar y amigos te esperan. . En Es Figueral la peña de Las Dalias se ha puesto al mando del chiringuito de la playa y lo ha convertido en un lugar no-tan-secreto para relajarse y recargar baterías - ¡pruébalo!

¿NOS VAMOS DE COMPRAS? Claro que sí, ¡estás de vacaciones! La gama de precios es enorme, pero todos los lugares que nombramos a continuación merecen una visita: Las Dalias, justo antes de San Juan es el hogar del único e incomparable mercado hippy, ahí todo el mundo encuentra algo realmente original. Para cosas de cuero deberías ir a Darío Bomé en San Miguel, a la tienda de Manfred Postel en Sta. Inés o a Te Cuero en Sta. Gertrudis, o combinar playa y compras en el Salinas parking, con los mejores complementos de cuero de Hecho A Mano que hayas visto jamás. Para souvenirs y moda, visita Histericcompliments, en Vara del Rey. En la Sirena encuentras todas las marcas deportivas a buen precio, hay muchas en la isla. Deberíais visitar la ciudad vieja de Ibiza, esa es la verdadera Ibiza, ¡sólo tienes que mirar a tu alrededor! Hippychic es otro consejo secreto; hay tres en la isla que se encuentran en c/Ses Figueres en Talamanca, Cala Vadella y en el Dalt Villa en la c/ Santa Cruz. En Fashion Pirate en Vara de Rey puedes comprar artículos de moda por un precio razonable. Una experiencia diferente es Vicente Ganesh, en la Marina, moda vintage de segunda mano y accesorios increíbles son algunas de las cosas para descubrir. La espiral de precios en Ibiza es muy amplia, no hay límites, ejemplos de las posibilidades de compras extremas son: Heaven en Marina Botafoch, el NIC en Vara del Rey, o EGB en la c/ Bartolomé Rossello. La tienda de Carhartt, enfrente de la parada de taxis en la ciudad de Ibiza, es otro lugar clave para los de inspiración urbana, como también lo es para los rebeldes la tienda Religion, que se encuentra enfrente de Vara del Rey, dirigiéndose hacia el puerto. ¿HAMBRE? una necesidad básica, y aquí en Ibiza hay que prestarle especial atención, ya que las noches son muy exigentes. Para que las aproveches al máximo sin una resaca monumental, lee nuestra guía rápida para sobrevivir a una larga noche de fiesta en la página XX. Hay tantos restaurantes increíblemente buenos que no podemos mencionar debido a la falta de espacio, pero aquí tienes algunos de los mejores: Encuentras Power food en varios sitios, como el Es Tap Nou en el centro de Ibiza, donde verduras y frutas del día se convierten en tu zumo o ensalada. Otra alternativa es el Pasión en Playa d’en Bossa, platos caseros y zumos de todo tipo para cargarte las pilas. ¿Rápido, fresco, bueno y barato? Comida San Juan y Los Pasajeros en Ibiza ciudad, cerca de la Plaça del Parque. Bar1805 en lo alto del Dome es una auténtica escapada de las prisas y perfecto para unos mejillones a la francesa y mucho más, además deberías probar su cóctel de absenta – ¡ye ha! ¿Pescado fresco? Hotel La Marina en el puerto de Ibiza. ¿Cocina francesa de excelente calidad? Pastis, a la vuelta de la Plaça del Parque, es un indispensable. El nuevo y reformado Sushipoint en Marina Botafoch es un sitio de moda para sushi y mucho más. ¿Quieres comida india de verdad? Prueba el Ancient People en la Avenida de España, la mejor comida por el mejor precio, ¡tienes que probar el Dhal (lentejas indias)! Encontrarás comida fusión en Bambuddha Grove en la carretera a San Juan, tailandesa en Banyan Palace en la carretera de San José a San Antonio. Por último, pero no por ello menos importante, prueba la Casa Thai 2 en la Avda. Isidoro Macabich/San Antonio – mi favorito, así como el Chang Mai, en Santa Eulalia, en una carretera escondida cerca del puerto deportivo. ¿Carne? Es Canto en Sta. La Luna Nell’ Orto en San Miguel es uno de los restaurantes más auténticos de la isla. ¡Era donde antes se celebraba el primer mercado Hippy de Ibiza! En Eulalia recomendamos el SomiArt de Foc y Fum en el Paseo Marítimo, no sólo comida perfecta, sino también performances en un entorno muy especial – ¡imperdible! Casa Colonial, en la carretera de Sta. Eulalia, es un verdadero refugio, la mejor comida fusión y el mejor servicio. También encuentras carne fantástica en el Km5, en la carretera a San José, en un ambiente único, una pasada. Un buen refugio es el BHS (BoutiqueHotelSalinas) justo después de la rotonda de Salinas, comida de gran calidad en un ambiente bonito - este año tienen un nuevo chef y ofrecen especialidades del norte de España - ¡una visita obligada! El Can Pilot en San Rafael te sirve la mejor “entraña” (corte de carne argentina) de la isla. ¿Excelente comida italiana? .El Tomate Rojo, cerca del Mac Donalds en Figueretas, comida italiana recién hecha para comer o para llevar. Si quieres comer pollo DE VERDAD tienes que ir a Can Bafalia en la carretera a San Juan, nunca has probado un pollo así, todo casero, desde las patatas hasta las hierbas, pasando por su propio pollo o Juanito’s en frente, una leyenda. En San Antonio tenemos que volver a mencionar Kumharas una y otra vez; la mejor comida fusión condimentada con buena música. Además tienes que probar las Spareribs (costillas de cerdo) en el Golden Buddha, en la sunset strip de San An En Sta. Eulalia se encuentra Es Rickshaw, comida fusión también a un precio razonable. ¿Caro pero que merezca la pena? Sa Capella en San Antonio, El Ayoun, L’Elephant y el Clodenis en San Rafael, Las Dos Lunas en la carretera Ibiza – San Antonio o el Ama Lur en la rotonda de Sta. Gertrudis. O prueba el nuevo Sublimotion en el también nuevo Hard Rock Hotel en Playa d’en Bossa, una experiencia única para todos los sentidos, incluido tu bolsillo. Definitivamente tienes que ir al Atzaró en la Ctra. San Juan km15, nunca has visto un jardín más bonito y la comida es excelente. ¿Prefieres la comida rápida? El Huehner Karl en Sta. Eulalia para comida alemana, Mister Kebab también en Sta. Eulalia o Albertos Doener en Playa d’en Bossa detrás del Sankeys. Salchichas alemanas y montones de cervezas diferentes es lo que ofrece Frankfurt’s Ibiza en la ciudad de Ibiza – obligatorio. ¿La mejor hamburguesa? Discoburger en la c/ Bartolomé Rossello/ Ibiza. ¿Cena con puesta de sol incluida? De nuevo y sin duda, Kumharas en San Antonio, las Puertas del Cielo encima de Sta. Inés, Sunset Ashram en Cala Conta y, en algunos meses, Cala d’Hort con vistas a Es Vedra - o cualquier otra de las numerosas playas en el lado oeste de Ibiza. ¡Sólo tienes que encontrarla tú mismo! ☺ ¿FALTA ALGO? Pues claro que sí, lo que la mayoría de vosotros viene buscando: ¡FIESTAAAAAA! Las fiestas aquí son de las mejores del mundo… Más de 400 bares, 6 discotecas grandes y unas 5 a 10 pequeñas, como mínimo 300 cabinas de DJ esperando que alguien pinche. Para un perfecto comienzo de la noche visita el Mambo Bar en el puerto de Ibiza o ve al Bar 1805, la ginger beer (cerveza de jengibre) es legendaria, ¡como también lo es la absenta! En Sta. Al lado, el nuevo Hard Rock Hotel está preparado para alzarse en el horizonte del clubbing, ya veremos qué tal funciona la fusión de Rock y música electrónica. También deberías probar una de las numerosas fiestas en barco, algunas de ellas empiezan en Figueretas, al lado de Ibiza y van hasta Formentera y luego vuelven, y otras salen de San Antonio, llevándote alrededor de Es Vedra para una inolvidable experiencia al atardecer. Eden se ha convertido en Gatecrasher Club, quieren traer el ‘Future Sound of San Antonio’ con Créche los martes y Afrojack los domingos, entre otros. ¡Desde aquí les deseamos mucha suerte! When I was dancing to Sven Väth at his own club called ‘Omen’ in Frankfurt beginning of the 90’s there was this family vibe in the air, a feeling of unity, like-minded people coming together to celebrate a good party with no restrictions whatsoever, no matter where you came from or what you did, how much you possessed or not. End of the 90’s then Sven and his crew finally got the chance to do their own event in Amnesia, bringing exactly the same vibe to an island that in those days was very different to what it is today, people here had a very similar vibe, a party was celebrated for its music, its vibe and its originality. In fact, it was Cocoon who introduced the celebration of a long set to Ibiza, one DJ playing for several hours to be able to develop a story within his set, a single track was not as important as the whole trip. It was mainly Sven on the main floor and Ricardo Villalobos on the terrace, both masters of their own ceremony, lulling the crowd into a mental and physical voyage that had no comparison in Ibiza’s club culture at this time. At their side was the cream of German Techno and House, eager to play the decks at Amnesia and beyond. And it was Cocoon who managed to get their followers to faithfully take the long trip to Ibiza in order to celebrate this unique vibe, combining it with the island’s very own energy and crowd – out came unforgettable nights that simply did not want to end. In those days the clubs did not have to close at 6 in the morning but even when the party ended in Amnesia the crowd was still up for more and so the legendary Cocoon afterhours were born. In any possible and impossible location, with no previous announcement, the team had already set up the basics for those who wanted more - a table with two decks and a mixer, a proper soundsystem, some camouflage nets and enough drinks to keep going. I remember one afterhour where the people had to go from bar to bar or shop to get more information on where to find the afterhour, a whole village got invaded by pleasure seekers in order to find their holy grail, exchanging information equally because all wanted exactly the same thing – keep on dancing to those infective beats no matter what it takes to get there. Over the years their concept had many copycats but not one single promoter managed to create the same vibe, the same feeling of oneness within so many different people with one sole purpose – to celebrate an honest party. Today Ibiza is mainly about big name DJs celebrating their own name, massive PR companies and top managers take care of their ‘artists’, ensuring that as much money as possible is extracted of every event, often on cost of the crowd that seeks for a good party but has no clue on where to find it, instead they get attracted by big marketing campaigns and more and more often find themselves in something they would not have chosen if they would have known better. 48

Well, as I said ‘mainly’ there is still a few ‘old school’ promoters out there, and when I say ‘old school’ I say that with pride because in that context it means promoters that know how to serve their crowd in order to ensure their loyalty. Cocoon is one of those few left over, even if the clubs have to shut down the music at 6 am and people are forced to seek their urge for more somewhere private you still find those legendary afterhours, they are well-kept secrets as always but if you know you will find the way, and I can assure you that they did not change a single inch, in fact it is on those afterhours that this eternal vibe pours out of every corner, every body and every speaker, this feeling of unity, togetherness with only one single aim – to celebrate a perfect party. 15 years Cocoon, my deepest respect and congratulations to all the team around Grandmaster Sven who know better than ever on how to satisfy their faithful crowd, ensuring a bright future for many more years to come. En cualquier lugar, posible e imposible, sin previo aviso, el equipo ya había montado lo básico para aquellos que querían más – una mesa con dos platos y un mixer, un equipo de sonido como dios manda, algunas redes de camuflaje y suficientes bebidas para poder seguir. Recuerdo un afterhour en el que la gente tenía que ir de bar en bar o tienda para conseguir más información de dónde encontrar el afterhour. Todo un pueblo fue invadido por buscadores del placer en busca de su santo grial, intercambiando información equitativamente, porque todos querían exactamente lo mismo – seguir bailando al ritmo de esos ritmos infecciosos, sin importar lo que costase llegar hasta allí. A lo largo de los años, este concepto ha tenido muchos imitadores, pero ni un solo promotor ha conseguido crear el mismo ambiente, el mismo sentimiento de unidad entre tanta gente diferente con un único propósito – celebrar una fiesta honesta. Hoy en día, Ibiza es fundamentalmente sobre DJs de renombre celebrando su propio nombre, enormes compañías de RRPP y top mánagers cuidando a sus ‘artistas,’ asegurándose de sacar de cada evento tanto dinero como sea posible, a menudo a costa del público que todavía está buscando una buena fiesta pero no tiene ni idea de dónde encontrarla, en lugar de ello se ven atraídos por grandes campañas de márketing y con mayor frecuencia se encuentran metidos en algo que no habrían elegido si lo hubieran sabido. I am following Sven since the early 90´s … At some point i started to get closer to his circle and became a good friend of Talida who managed him and later Cocoon for almost 15 years. ANJA SCHNEIDER IS ONE OF THE BUSIEST AND MOST SUCCESSFUL WOMEN ON THE INTERNARTIONAL DANCE CIRCUIT, AND THIS YEAR SHE CROWNS HER CARREER IN IBIZA BY FINALLY HOLDING A RESIDENCY IN THUR MOBILEE STYLE AT SANTOS BAECH CLUB IN PLAYA D’EN BOSSA. ANJA, PLEASURE TO HAVE YOU IN OUR NETWORK, TELL US A BIT MORE ABOUT THE RESIDENCY AT SANTOS. The pleasure is mine. Yesterday i saw the club for the first time and i really love it. My partner Ralf Kollmann saw it already and was very happy as well so i knew it would be great. It is our first time having a regular event on Ibiza and we are very excited about it. We had some offers before but it was never something we felt very comfortable with. We are a strong brand so it was important to us to find the right venue, nothing too strong for us, and Santos reminds me a bit of the Hotel Diagonal in Barcelona where we celebrate our rooftop parties for the Off Sonar during the last 9 years. This year we will be present at the Hotel Diagonal every other saturday during the summer so we are around the corner and hope to be able to transport this vibe to Ibiza, it’s a bout a good mood, people dancing, a real party. IT IS THIS ‘NOT-SO-VERY-IMPORTANT-PEOPLE’ ATTITUDE THAT CAUGHT OUR ATTENTION, HOW DO YOU SEE THIS DEVELOPMENT FOR BIGGER, LOUDER, MORE EXPENSIVE AND MORE IMPORTANT EVENTS ON IBIZA? Honestly i was quite shocked last year when i came to the island and attended a few parties, i asked myself ‘Do we want to be a part of this’? I am coming from an underground scene, i come from these dark, sweaty stinky clubs and i love it as much as i love these rooftop parties, the sun, wearing sunglasses, see girls in Bikinis. This whole scene is becoming bigger and bigger and i am not sure how far it can go, being a part of the rave scene since the 90’s i survived this big bubble at the end of the 90’s when the rave society collapsed, so i am always careful and very aware of what is going on. Sure some of the people that are on top of it all worked very hard to get there, for example Richie Hawtin and his Enter event deserve every bit of their success because there is a vision behind it. TOTALLY AGREED, BUT SEEING SOME DJS GETTING PAID A FORTUNE FOR AN EDM GIG SEEMS COMPLETELY OUT OF PLACE... It is absolutely out of range and even more, it is disrespectful to our job because most of them don’t even mix while they ‘play’

music, it is all pre-recorded and prepared, and the music for me is not what i stand for but i am not in a position to judge them. IT SEEMS THAT ON ONE OF THOSE MASS EVENTS THE DJ IS ONLY UP THERE TO RAISE ARMS AND SALUTE THE MASSES, MUSIC IS BECOMING SECUNDARY AND NOBODY SEEMS TO CARE, THE ALL GOT THEIR SMARTPHONES UP IN THE AIR ANYWAY TO CATCH THE ‘UNIQUE’ VIBE. Totally, and i am quite sure this will not go on for long. TELL US ABOUT THE ARTISTS YOU INVITE. First and most important it is our complete roster of Mobilee artists becvause they do not play regularly on Ibiza and these are my boys, my family and it is really important to have them. I know exactly what the are playing and they fit perfectly in this environment, so everyone is coming from Igor Vincente, Lee van Dowski, Sebo K, And.Id, Roberto Rodriguez Jr., Re.You, Ralf Kollmann and Ray Okpara. Then we invite some special guests, friends of us who also do not play here regularly. Ah, and the most important thing about our Mobilee Pool Parties is the free entrance, no VIP area and reasonable drink prices! I have no idea how people are gonna make it, drinks are so expensive, entrance fees are sometimes ridiculously high and if you go for dinner before then it all sums up to a fortune... YOU AS WELL HOST A BI-WEEKLY RADIOSHOW ON IBIZA SONICA? It is on the same day as the event in Santos, and as you know radio is a big passion for me, radio is where i come from, that was 20 years ago. And everybody is doing radio today so it was obvious for me and i love it so much. SAME FOR ME, I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU TALK ABOUT! And i want to do it as i do my shows in Berlin, not having so much mixes but actually talk about the tracks, the producer behinf it and the story around it. There will be some mixes as well but i want to do it my style. TELL US ABOUT YOUR LATEST RELEASE ‘DUBMISSION’ ON MOBILEE, IS IT RELEASED YET? It is released since two weeks and i actually made it when i came back from the BPM Festival in Mexico, i went to so many outdoor parties on the beack and listened to this new deep house being super trancy and it was the first time i really liked it. I come from a time when Trance was the big thing and i said ‘you know what? i will try this in the studio, i will work with those sounds that i never touched before’ and i really liked it, i was full of energy having the old parties in my mind and finally i named it after a very successful Trance party that took place in the legendary E-Werk at the beginning of the 90’s when i moved to Berlin. was the residency of Kid Paul, Ellen Alien, also Paul van Dyk who i don’t like to name so much, but my hero was Kid Paul, he was 14 years old back in those days and he was the best DJ i ever heard, he had to travel with his father to be able to enter the clubs! Actually it is the same story as with the Martini Brothers now, one of them was so young that his father had to go with him. Me i am on the other side now, let’s see what happens if my son is getting into all this... Rio (Anja’s son) is always interfering the interview because he is bored, so we are having fun with him! He probably will find it all very boring, i remember when i was young and my parents were having parties i found it embarassing, i hated the music, them smoking cigars and being ridiculous in my eyes... TALKING ABOUT YOURSELF, YOU HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR SO MANY YEARS, STARTED YOUR OWN VERY SUCCESSFUL LABEL AND COLLABORATE WITH SO MANY OTHERS, WHERE DO YOU STILL FIND THE ENERGY TO GIVE 100%? Honestly right now i don’t feel like giving it 100% as i am a mother now, since Rio came into my life i feel like giving 50% here, 50% there and i can not really focus on something so time is not my best friend at the moment, i need much more than i have, not being able to really prepare myself for a gig, i do it on the plane. But anyway i don’t see it as a job, it is my passion so it is no stress for me, i am so blessed to be able to do what i am doing, it feels amazing and as long as i have this passion i will do it. It takes a lot of organization but this is something every mother has to go through and i am lucky anyway because during the week i have time for my family WHAT INSPIRES YOU? It sounds clichée but what inspires me most is travelling, meet new people, visit foreign countries, i always reload my batteries on my travels and get some creative input. As well listening to new music, the demos that we got sent to us and sometimes, very rare, when i go out and listen to other colleagues. Normally you go to the club a few minutes before you play and leave right after the gig which is not very nice, i like to stay and enjoy the party whenever i got the time for it. ANJA IN 20 YEARS? It is very difficult, especially for a woman, to get older in this or any other job, for men it is quite cool, if a DJ is over the 50s so what, but as a woman i don’t know... But honestly, i don’t care, because as long as i love doing it and it is authentic i will keep on. So there is nothing else i could imagine doing... Of course i got my radio shows but it also has to do with music! WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF MUSIC DID NOT EXIST? Music always was the biggest part of my life, but when i was a teenager i wanted to be a writer, i still write stories in my head so i would probably do this for a living. But as music exists all it is about is to give the people that listen to my music a smile, when they come out and go home and smile this for me is the biggest reward. ANJA SCHNEIDER ES UNA DE LAS MUJERES MÁS OCUPADAS Y CON MÁS ÉXITO DEL CIRCUITO DANCE INTERNACIONAL Y ESTE AÑO PONDRÁ EL BROCHE DE ORO A SU CARRERA EN IBIZA AL TRABAJAR, FINALMENTE, COMO RESIDENTE AL ESTILO MOBILEE EN EL SANTOS BEACH CLUB DE PLAYA D’EN BOSSA. ANJA, ES UN PLACER TENERTE EN NUESTRA CASA, CUÉNTANOS UN POCO MÁS SOBRE LA RESIDENCIA EN EL SANTOS. El placer es mío. Ayer vi el club por primera vez y lo cierto es que me encantó. Mi compañero, Ralf Kollmann, ya lo había visto y también estaba muy contento, así que yo ya sabía que sería genial. Es nuestra primera vez con un evento regular en Ibiza y estamos muy entusiasmados. Tuvimos algunas ofertas antes, pero nunca fue nada con lo que nos sintiéramos muy a gusto. Somos un nombre fuerte, así que para nosotros era importante encontrar el lugar ideal, nada demasiado potente para nosotros. Y Santos me recuerda un poco al Hotel Diagonal, en Barcelona, donde, durante los últimos nueve años, venimos celebrando nuestras fiestas en la azotea para la Off Week. Este año presentaremos en el Hotel Diagonal durante todo el verano, en sábados alternos, así que estaremos a la vuelta de la esquina y esperamos poder transportar este ambiente hasta Ibiza; se trata de buen humor, de gente bailando y de una auténtica fiesta. ES ESTA ACTITUD ‘NO-TAN- V.I.P.’ LA QUE HA LLAMADO NUESTRA ATENCIÓN, ¿CÓMO VES ESTE DESARROLLO HACIA MAYORES, MÁS RUIDOSOS, MÁS CAROS Y MÁS IMPORTANTES EVENTOS EN IBIZA? La verdad, me quedé bastante alucinada el año pasado cuando vine a la isla y asistí a unas cuantas fiestas. Me preguntaba a mí misma ‘¿Queremos formar parte de esto?’ Yo vengo de una escena underground, vengo de esos oscuros, sudorosos y apestosos clubs y eso me encanta, tanto como me encantan esas fiestas en la azotea, el sol, llevar gafas de sol, ver a las chicas en bikini. Toda esta escena se está haciendo más y más grande y no estoy segura de hasta dónde puede llegar. Siendo parte de la escena rave desde los 90, he sobrevivido a esta gran burbuja que hubo al final de los 90, cuando la sociedad rave se colapsó, así que siempre tengo cuidado y estoy muy al tanto de lo que sucede. Seguro que alguna de la gente que está en lo más alto ha trabajado muy duro para llegar hasta allí, por ejemplo Ritchie Hawtin y su evento Enter se merecen cada pizca de su éxito, porque existe toda una visión por detrás de ello. COMPLETAMENTE DE ACUERDO, PERO VER CÓMO A ALGUNOS DJS LES PAGAN UNA FORTUNA POR UN TRABAJO EDM RESULTA TOTALMENTE FUERA DE LUGAR... Está completamente fuera de lugar y, aún más, es una falta de respeto hacia nuestro trabajo, porque la mayoría de ellos ni siquiera mezclan cuando ‘tocan’ su música, está todo pregrabado y preparado. Y esa música no es la que yo defiendo, si bien yo no estoy en posición de juzgarlos.

Exactamente y estoy bastante segura de que esto no seguirá así por mucho tiempo. HÁBLANOS DE LOS ARTISTAS QUE HAS INVITADO. Para empezar y más importante de todo, está nuestro listado completo de artistas de mobilee, porque no tocan regularmente en Ibiza y estos son mis chicos y mi familia y es realmente importante tenerlos aquí. Sé exactamente lo que van a tocar y ellos encajan a la perfección en este ambiente, así que todo el mundo viene, desde Igor Vicente, Lee van Dowski, Sebo K, And. Id, Rodriguez Jr., Re.You, Ralf Kollmann y Ray Okpara. Después tendremos a algunos invitados especiales, amigos nuestros que tampoco tocan aquí regularmente. ¡Ah! ¡Y lo más importante sobre nuestras fiestas en la piscina de mobilee es la entrada gratuita, sin área VIP y con precios razonables por las bebidas! No tengo ni idea de cómo la gente lo consigue, las bebidas son tan caras, los precios de las entradas en ocasiones son ridículamente altos y si vas a cenar antes, entonces todo junto suma una fortuna… ADEMÁS DE LAS FIESTAS, ¿ESTÁS PRESENTANDO UN PROGRAMA DE RADIO QUINCENAL EN IBIZA SONICA? Es el mismo día que el evento en Santos y, como sabes, la radio es mi gran pasión; la radio es de donde vengo, donde empecé hace 20 años. Hoy en día todo el mundo hace radio, así que era algo evidente en mi caso y es algo que me encanta. ¡SÉ EXACTAMENTE DE LO QUE ESTÁS HABLANDO! Y quiero hacerlo, al igual que hago mis shows en Berlín, sin muchas mezclas, sino más bien hablando de las pistas, del productor por detrás de ellas y de la historia que las rodea. También habrá algunas mezclas, pero quiero hacerlo en mi propio estilo. HÁBLANOS DE TU ÚLTIMO LANZAMIENTO EN MOBILEE, ‘DUBMISSION,’ ¿HA SALIDO YA? Hace dos semanas que salió y en realidad lo hice cuando volví del Festival BPM en México. Acudí a tantas fiestas en la playa al aire libre y escuchar este nuevo deep house ha sido super trance y, por primera vez, realmente me ha encantado.Yo vengo de una época en la que el trance era lo máximo y me dije, ‘¿sabes qué? Voy a probar esto en el estudio, quiero trabajar con estos sonidos que nunca he probado antes y que de verdad me gustan; Me sentía llena de energía, con todas aquellas fiestas todavía en la mente y al final le puse el nombre de una exitosa fiesta trance que tuvo lugar en el legendario E-Werk a principios de los años 90, cuando yo me mudé a Berlín. Era la residencia de Kid Paul, Ellen Allien y también de Paul van Dyk, a quien no me gusta nombrar demasiado; pero mi héroe era Kid Paul, en aquella época él tenía 14 años y era el mejor DJ que había escuchado. ¡Tenía que viajar con su padre para que le permitieran entrar en los clubs! Lo cierto es que ahora es la misma historia con los Martinez Brothers, uno de ellos era tan joven que su padre tenía que ir con él. Yo, ahora estoy justo en el otro lado, así que ya veremos qué pasa si mi hijo se mete en todo esto… 58

A él probablemente le parecerá todo muy aburrido; recuerdo cuando era joven y mis padres hacían fiestas y a mí me parecía muy embarazoso. Yo detestaba la música, a ellos fumando cigarros y, a mí modo de ver, siendo ridículos… HABLANDO SOBRE TI, LLEVAS TRABAJANDO DURANTE TANTOS AÑOS, COMENZASTE TU PROPIO Y MUY EXITOSO SELLO Y COLABORAS CON MUCHOS OTROS, ¿EN DÓNDE SIGUES ENCONTRANDO LA ENERGÍA NECESARIA PARA DAR EL 100%? Sinceramente, ahora mismo no siento que esté dando el 100%, ya que ahora soy madre. Desde que Rio llegó a mi vida siento como que doy el 50% aquí, el 50% allí y lo cierto es que no puedo enfocarme en algo, así que en estos momentos el tiempo no es mi mejor amigo. Necesito mucho más del que tengo; en realidad me veo sin tener tiempo para prepararme para un trabajo, lo hago en el avión. Pero, en cualquier caso, yo no lo veo como un trabajo, es mi pasión, así que para mí no significa ningún estrés. Soy tan afortunada por poder hacer lo que hago, es maravilloso y mientras sienta esta pasión seguiré haciéndolo. Requiere mucha organización, pero eso es algo que cualquier madre tiene que afrontar y, en cualquier caso, soy afortunada porque durante la semana tengo tiempo para mi familia. ¿QUÉ TE INSPIRA? Suena a cliché, pero lo que más me inspira es viajar, conocer a gente nueva y visitar otros países. Siempre cargo las baterías viajando y consiguiendo algún input creativo. Así como escuchar nueva música, las demos que nos mandan y a veces, muy raramente, cuando salgo y escucho a otros colegas. Por lo general, vas al club unos minutos antes de tocar y te vas justo después de tu actuación, lo cual no es muy agradable. A mí me gusta quedarme y disfrutar de la fiesta siempre que tengo tiempo para hacerlo. ¿QUÉ TIENE ANJA PREPARADO PARA LOS PRÓXIMOS 20 AÑOS? Envejecer en esta profesión es muy difícil, sobre todo para una mujer. Para un hombre es bastante cool, si un DJ tiene más de 50, ¿qué pasa?, pero como mujer, no sé… Pero, sinceramente, no me importa, porque mientras me siga gustando hacerlo y sea algo auténtico, seguiré adelante. No hay nada más que me imagine haciendo… Claro está, tengo mis programas de radio, ¡pero eso también tiene que ver con la música! ¿QUÉ HARÍAS SI NO EXISTIERA LA MÚSICA? La música siempre ha sido la parte principal de mi vida, pero cuando era adolescente quería ser escritora y todavía tengo historias en la cabeza, así que probablemente me dedicaría a eso. Sin embargo, como la música sí existe, de lo que se trata es de ponerle una sonrisa en la cara a la gente que escucha mi música, cuando vienen y que se vuelvan a casa sonriendo; esto para mí es la mejor recompensa. ESTAMOS MUY SEGUROS DE QUE NOS IREMOS DE TU EVENTO INAUGURAL EN EL SANTOS CON UNA ENORME SONRISA, AL IGUAL QUE EL RESTO DEL PÚBLICO PRESENTE. ¡MUCHÍSIMAS GRACIAS POR HABERNOS RECIBIDO Y HASTA PRONTO! THIS YEAR PRIVILEGE COUNTS ON A NEW GENERATION OF PROMOTERS LIKE YOU, SOMETHING THAT IS MISSING IN IBIZA, NO? We can only admire that Privilege works with Spanish Promoters. There was definitely a demand and we got a great potential in Spain to have a better representation in Ibiza. We from Reverse count on several national and international artists like Uner, Cristian Varela or Dosem, but apart from that we give 6 local and national artists the chance to express themselves. We care about our national roots.

WHO ARE YOUR HEROES? This is an indefinite list…but we love all those that had to work their way up without having things too easy and those who fight for their dreams.

WHERE DOES THE NAME ‘REVERSE’ COME FROM? The name comes from ‘being upside down’ or ‘twisted’, it is that easy, something that happens at almost any party. And therefrom our mascot got the two ‘X’ in his eyes.

WHEN YOU ARE NOT PARTYING, WHERE CAN PEOPLE FIND YOU ON THE ISLAND? Definitely in our office - we practically spend seven days in there, but to relax we go to Lips Reartes or Blue Marlin.

HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE THE PARTY? Reverse is an abduction. A trip where you really can have a break and disconnect form your daily routine and leave problems behind.

WINTER PLANS? Preparing the next season, travelling with our artists Uner, Technasia and Cristian Varela and developing new concepts.

HOW DID YOU TWO COME TOGETHER AND WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN COMMON? We both were Promoters in Madrid and founded our company MG group straight after knowing each other. Since 2009 we are promoting festivals like Day One, Free Live, Amnesia Festival and clubs like Reverse or the X Club. And we host more than 50 DJs in our booking agency, Magnum Bookings and DJ Mag Spain.

HOW IS THE SEASON SO FAR? We put lots of work into this project during the last months and we are sure we will succeed in our first season. People like our concept and the opening was definitely a huge success.

La apuesta que ha hecho Privilege por el promotor Español es digna de admiración. Es algo que escaseaba y tenemos un potencial muy grande en nuestro País como para que hubiese una representación algo mayor en Ibiza. Desde Reverse, además de contar con varios de los artistas nacionales más destacados (UNER, Cristian Varela, Dosem) damos cada noche la oportunidad a 6 artistas locales y algún dj nacional para que se exprese. ‘IF ALL MONEY IS GIVEN TO THE DJ WHAT MONEY IS LEFT FOR THE PARTY?’ INTERVIEW WITH MIKE & CLAIRE

UP IN THE NORTH OF THE ISLAND I AM SITTING WITH MIKE & CLAIRE, MANUMISSION CREATORS, NOW BEING ON ANOTHER QUEST TO FINALLY REINVENT THEMSELVES AND THEIR UNDERSTANDING OF HOW TO CREATE THE PERFECT PARTY. LET’S FIND OUT WHAT THIS IS ALL ABOUT. 20 YEARS MANUMISSION - HOW DOES THAT FEEL? MIKE: Hard to believe no? What do you think? CLAIRE: Yeah... It really feels like from another time... It was such an intense part of our life, an all-consuming experience. I don’t think we could have done what we did without the passion for it. YOU DEFINITELY CHANGED THE PARTY LANDSCAPE OF IBIZA... MIKE: Well, we’d better apologize for what has come after Manumission - (big laughs!). We were very [very] happy with what we did but i guess we are partly to blame for what has come out if it. YOU PROBABLY PUT THINGS IN PEOPLE’S MINDS THAT THEY LATER MISINTERPRETED OR OVERDID IN A CERTAIN WAY, WITHOUT MENTIONING ANY NAMES... HOW DID YOU COME TO IBIZA IN THE FIRST PLACE? MIKE: We met the first year in 1994 - i literally came on holiday after starting Manumission in Manchester. I came her for a break, did not want to visit any clubs at all - that lasted for about one week, the second week we wandered around the clubs and i thought wow - imagine we could stay and do Manumission here? Then we spoke to Brasilio and managed to get a deal, he offered us Monday nights just to do a small party in the Coco Loco bar... CLAIRE: And it grew and grew and grew quite quickly until we filled up the whole club and it went on for years until José Maria literally locked the doors up on us on August 4th 2007. IT SEEMS TO BE AN OUTSTANDING DATE IF YOU KNOW IT STRAIGHT AWAY! MANUMISSION IS AS FAR AS I KNOW STILL THE PROMOTER WITH THE BIGGEST NUMBER OF PEOPLE VISITING THEIR EVENT UP TO PRESENT - THAT IS AMAZING! CLAIRE: We kind of reinvented Manumission every year and i guess that is one of the reasons why we stayed on top. And we only did parties here. Many people use Ibiza as a platform to tour the world, so how ever successful they were in Ibiza they can go on tour after, using the name of Ibiza for themselves. We found that it is our mission to bring people to the island, if you wanted to come to Manumission you had to come to Ibiza. And this was the perfect place for Manumission, what a playground, all that freedom, the cool international crowd and we could invite people down here to give them the most incredible time, taking them to Sa Trinxa and all our other favorite places to have this wild 36 hours adventure. DO YOU MISS THE OLD TIMES? CLAIRE: Well, it was so intense at the time, then we changed to a family life and it took us seven years to write the film script and to develop our new show so that has been an amazing change for us and it was really necessary. Of course we miss it because it was

so much fun. What we are creating now is again on another level, the team we work together with now comes from the cinema world, you don’t see those people in nightlife. WHEN MANUMISSION STOPPED DID YOU ALREADY HAVE THE IDEA OR HOW DID THAT COME TO LIFE? MIKE: For the last six years of Manumission we already wanted to make the film we are making now. We are on it probably for the last thirteen years. I found the book that the film is based on at the Strand bookstore in NYC, our plan was to finish Manumission in 2007 but then, before the end of the season, José Maria literally closed the doors on us. It would have been our most successful year but then we were in a different situation, and in order to keep our team employed we moved to Amnesia which was a mistake - It would’ve been better to finish in the middle of the season. TALKING ABOUT EGOS AND THE ACTUAL PARTY SCENE, WHAT IS IBIZA RIGHT NOW FOR YOU? CLAIRE: What baffles me is all those people holding their smartphones in the air and i ask myself ‘what are they going to do with that footage?’ Do they sit at home and enjoy what they should have enjoyed in the actual moment? And who made the DJs so important? Of course the DJ is an integral part of a good party, he or she is definitely essential but to only worship that one element puts the whole system in question. MIKE: 20 years ago, when we first came to the island, it was a very cosmopolitan group, very international crowd, a rebel scene, the people that came here have all chosen to leave where they were from in order to break free, come here and live a free life. And when you tell people about Ibiza at that time they didn’t know, e.g. Americans didn’t even know where Ibiza was, for the English Ibiza was San Antonio so lots didn’t want to go thinking it was all drugs so the island had a really bad reputation and we had to explain that Ibiza is much nicer than they had imagined. So to get through that and come here you had to be a braver kind of person to ignore all of that and come down. So it was a kind of filter and therefore it was a very special group of people whereas nowadays it is so much more mainstream and all those rebel characters are probably still here and do the same as what we do, living in the countryside and not going out, or at least so much. And i totally understand it, what is there to go out to that we would really enjoy? We do go out from time to time but i guess we need to make a party for us to fully enjoy it. The clubs back in the old days didn’t used to be full but they were great, e.g. Pacha was a fantastic club, very glamorous and international, now it’s just a packed club full of smartphone holders - so where is all the glamour gone? TODAY THE BILLBOARDS ARE FULL OF DJ FACES CELEBRATING THEMSELVES... MIKE: exactly... Maybe he is a really nice guy but he is definitely overpaid. The club is obviously making good money if not they would not pay this price, but if all the money is given to the DJ what money is left for the party? There was a shift around the year 2000 when Pacha did direct deals with the DJ’s and cut out the promoter. That model got taken on across the whole island or let’s say in most of the places but actually the promoters were there for a reason, sure the DJ is the carrot to get the people to a party but there is an art to throwing a good party and that is 8.1

what’s missing. And fun! SO LET’S TALK ABOUT THE NEW PROJECT CALLED ‘PHANTASMAGORIA’! CLAIRE: Phantasmagoria is set in the future in the year 2034 and the world is so devoid of culture that the citizens go to a club called ‘Sexus’, they are all cinephiles getting dressed as characters out of the movie. MIKE: This summer we will be holding five events on Fridays in August starting on Claire’s birthday which is the 1st of August. What we are trying to create is something that we would enjoy to go to. License pending we will turn the car park next to Boom into a drive-in Movie theater with food and drinks. CLAIRE: We are talking to Seth Troxler regarding his London eatery restaurant ‘Smokey Tails’ which pays homage to his Detroit roots, where they do fantastic Spare Ribs on a barbecue so we would love to have them do a pop-up restaurant here in one of those super cool jet stream caravans to feed this massive drive-in so people can have a picnic with their cars in the back. And we have chosen five of our favourite directors so each week we want to celebrate the work of one of those directors so what we are planning to do is to show one of their films.Then we go over to Phantasmagoria where we have this amazing visual artist and in addition Craig Richards in residency.. MIKE: His only residency outside of Fabric London.. He will create a strong musical backbone along with inviting very special guests to play alongside him. He is going to work with the visual artist which you could call a VJ but i prefer to call him an artist, it will be like being in the mind of the film director. CLAIRE: We sourced these super cool blues songs that were banned in the 30s so they will be the basis for the soundtrack of the shows. We have the best dancers trained in classic ballet doing this sexy choreography, bringing those two worlds together, who normally would never meet. MIKE: This is where we wanted to go with Manumission, I always wished i could have lived in Paris in the 20s with all these great thinkers and artists and poets and writers, if you got them all together in one place, the outcome must be very special when you mix the best talents of different fields. So we try to mix the best of film, the best of music and the best of dance, and we are pretty sure something will happen, and we don’t even know what that is. It could have an effect on culture in general because of going that extra distance. Right now there is a cultural void, as long as the formula of paying off a big DJ and filling the club works none of the club owners will change this formula... CLAIRE: Ibiza is such a special place, the parties here need to be on another level and they can be, it has been done before so why not do it again? MIKE: We should not be imitating Las Vegas and i think it should be an honor and a privilege to play in Ibiza so people should not get stuck in paying those outrageous wages but investing it in the culture of the party, as a reinvestment in the scene. Right now there is too much service towards the VIPs and we hear people say that this service isn’t even good enough for the VIPs, they charge VIP prices but do not deliver VIP service which those clients want. Before we had rich people as well but they would hide 66

their money and drive around in a shitty old car, hang out on the beach smoking joints trying to blend in with the others enjoying their anonymity within genuinely cool people. MIKE: We love the logo, but more important is you are the only un-corporate magazine, almost all the other magazines are about promoting themselves or their brand. EN LA PARTE NORTE DE LA ISLA, ESTOY SENTANDO CON CLAIRE + MIKE, LOS CREADORES DE MANUMISSION, QUE SE ENCUENTRAN AHORA EN OTRA AVENTURA PARA REINVENTARSE A SÍ MISMOS Y SU CONCEPTO DE CÓMO CREAR LA FIESTA PERFECTA. VEAMOS DE QUÉ VA TODO ESTO: 20 AÑOS DE MANUMISSION - ¿QUÉ SE SIENTE? MIKE: Es difícil de creer, ¿verdad? ¿Qué opinas? CLAIRE: Sí… De verdad que parece como de otra época… Fue una parte tan intensa de nuestra vida, una experiencia que absorbía todo nuestro. No creo que pudiéramos haber hecho lo que hicimos sin sentir la pasión que sentíamos por ello. SIN LUGAR A DUDAS VOSOTROS CAMBIASTEIS EL PANORAMA DE FIESTAS DE IBIZA! MIKE: Bueno, será mejor que nos disculpemos por lo que ha venido detrás de Manumission – (¡risas!). Estábamos muy muy contentos con lo que hicimos, pero supongo que tenemos parte de culpa por lo que ha originado todo esto. PROBABLEMENTE LE METES COSAS A LA GENTE EN LA CABEZA QUE MÁS TARDE SE MALINTERPRETAN O SE EXAGERAN DE CIERTA MANERA, SIN MENCIONAR A NADIE… ¿CÓMO OS VINISTEIS A IBIZA PARA EMPEZAR? MIKE: Nos encontramos por primera vez en el 1994 – literalmente me vine de vacaciones después de empezar Manumission en Manchester. Me vine para tomarme un respiro, no quería visitar ningún club- eso duró durante más o menos una semana, la segunda semana me di una vuelt por los clubs y pensé ¡Guau! ¿Imagínate si pudiéramos quedarnos y hacer Manumission aquí? Después hablamos con Brasilio y nos las arreglamos para conseguir un acuerdo; nos ofreció las noches de los lunes, sólo para hacer una pequeña fiesta en el bar Coco Loco… CLAIRE: Y creció y creció y creció bastante rápido hasta que llenamos el club al completo y siguió así durante años, hasta que José María literalmente nos cerró las puertas el 4 de agosto del 2007.

SI LO PIENSAS BIEN, PARECE UNA FECHA ESPECTACULAR. MANUMISSION, POR LO QUE YO SÉ, TODAVÍA ES EL PROMOTOR CON EL MAYOR NÚMERO DE PERSONAS QUE VISITAN SU EVENTO HASTA EL DÍA DE HOY - ¡ESO ES INCREÍBLE! CLAIRE: Reinventamos Manumission cada año y supongo que esa es una de las razones por las cuales nos mantenemos en la cima. MIKE: Y sólo hemos hecho fiestas aquí en Ibiza. Mucha gente usa Ibiza como una plataforma para su gira mundial, así que dependiendo de cuánto éxito tengan en Ibiza se pueden ir de gira después, usando el nombre de Ibiza para su propio beneficio. Nosotros sentimos que nuestra misión es traer gente a la isla, si quieres venir a Manumission tienes que venirte a Ibiza. Y este fue el lugar perfecto para Manumission, menudo patio de juegos, toda esa libertad, ese genial público internacional. Y podíamos invitar a la gente a venir aquí para ofrecerles momentos increíbles, llevarlos al Sá Trinxa y a todos nuestros otros lugares favoritos para tener esta aventura salvaje de 36 horas... ¿ECHÁIS DE MENOS LOS VIEJOS TIEMPOS? CLAIRE: Bueno, era tan intenso en aquellos tiempos, después nos cambiamos a una vida familiar y nos llevó siete años escribir el guión de una película y desarrollar nuestro nuevo show, así que ha sido un cambio fantástico para nosotros y era realmente necesario. Por supuesto que lo echamos de menos porque era muy divertido.

MIKE: Ahora, cuando salimos también es divertido, pero la fiesta perfecta para nosotros, para divertirnos, era la que hacíamos en aquellos días… Lo que estamos creando ahora es, una vez más, un nuevo nivel, el equipo con el que trabajamos ahora viene del mundo del cine, no ves a esta gente en la noche. CUANDO SE TERMINÓ MANUMISSION, ¿YA TENÍAIS LA IDEA O SABÍAIS CÓMO HACERLO POSIBLE? MIKE: Durante los últimos seis años de Manumission ya queríamos hacer esta película que estamos haciendo ahora. Hemos estado trabajando en esto durante, probablemente, los últimos trece años. Encontré el libro en el que se basa la película en la librería Strand, en Nueva York. Nuestro plan era terminar Manumission en el 2007, pero entonces, antes del final de la temporada, José María literalmente nos cerró las puertas. Habría sido nuestro año de mayor éxito, pero cuando nos encontramos en una situación diferente y para poder mantener a nuestro equipo empleado y trabajando, nos mudamos a Amnesia, lo cual fue un error… Hubiera sido mejor terminar en la mitad de la temporada. HABLANDO DE EGOS Y DE LA ESCENA DE FIESTA ACTUAL, EN ESTOS MOMENTOS, ¿QUÉ SIGNIFICA IBIZA PARA VOSOTROS? CLAIRE: Lo que más me alela es toda esa gente sujetando los smartphones en lo alto, yo me pregunto ‘¿qué van a hacer con ese vídeo?’ ¿Se van a sentar en casa y disfrutar de lo que debe8.1

rían haber estado disfrutando en el momento real? ¿Y quién ha convertido a los DJs en gente tan importante? Por supuesto que el DJ es una parte integral de una buena fiesta, él o ella es sin duda esencial, pero solamente alabar a este único elemento pone en duda al sistema al completo. MIKE: hace 20 años, cuando llegamos a la isla por primera vez, era un grupo muy cosmopolita, un público muy internacional, una escena rebelde, la gente que venía aquí había elegido dejar su lugar de origen para poder liberarse, venían aquí a vivir una vida libre. Y, en aquella época, cuando le hablabas a la gente sobre Ibiza, no la conocían; por ejemplo, los americanos ni siquiera sabían dónde estaba Ibiza, para los ingleses Ibiza era San Antonio, así que muchos no querían ir, pensando que todo eran drogas. Así que la isla tenía una reputación muy mala y teníamos que explicar que Ibiza era mucho más agradable de lo que ellos se imaginaban. Así que, para pasar por todo esto y venirte hasta aquí tenías que ser una persona bastante valiente, para ignorar todo eso y venirte. Así que era una especie de filtro y, por lo tanto, era un grupo de gente muy especial, mientras que hoy en día es mucho más convencional. Y todos esos personajes rebeldes probablemente siguen por aquí, haciendo lo mismo que hacemos nosotros, viviendo en el campo y sin salir, al menos no demasiado. Y yo lo entiendo totalmente, ¿qué es lo que hay ahí fuera para poder salir que nosotros vayamos realmente a disfrutar? Nosotros sí que salimos de vez en cuando, pero supongo que tenemos que hacer una fiesta para nosotros mismos para realmente disfrutarla. En los buenos tiempos, los clubs no solían estar llenos, pero eran estupendos; por ejemplo, Pacha era un club fantástico, muy glamuroso e internacional, ahora es tan sólo un club lleno, repleto de dueños de smartphones –así que, ¿adónde se ha ido todo el glamour? HOY EN DÍA LAS LISTAS DE ÉXITOS ESTÁN LLENAS DE LOS ROSTROS DE DJS CELEBRÁNDOSE A SI MISMO... MIKE: exacto... Quizás sea un tío estupendo, pero desde luego está sobrevaluado. Sin duda, el club está haciendo un montón de dinero, porque sino no podrían pagar este precio. Pero si todo el dinero se le da al DJ, ¿cuánto dinero queda para la fiesta? Hubo un cambio alrededor del milenium, cuando Pacha trataba directamente con los DJs quitando el promotor del medio. Este modelo se extendió por toda la isla, o digamos en la mayoría de los lugares. Pero en realidad los promotores estaban ahí por un motivo, sin duda que el DJ es el cebo para atraer a la gente a una fiesta, pero existe todo un arte para organizar una buena fiesta y eso es lo que está faltando. ¡Y diversión! HABLEMOS DEL NUEVO PROYECTO, LLAMADO ‘PHANTASMAGORIA’. CLAIRE: Phantasmagoria tiene lugar en el futuro, en el año 2034, y el mundo esta tanto en falta de cultura que los habitantes van a un club llamado ‘Sexus’ donde todos son cinéfilos vestidos como personajes de la película. MIKE: Este verano estaremos presentando cinco eventos los viernes de agosto, empezando el día del cumpleaños de Claire, que es el 1 de agosto. Lo que estamos intentando crear es algo adonde nosotros disfrutaríamos ir. Dependiendo a las licencias 68

convertiremos el aparcamiento que hay al lado del Boom en un autocine con comida y bebidas. CLAIRE: Estamos hablando con Seth Troxler con referencia a su restaurante en Londres llamado Smokey Tails que es fruta de sus raíces de Detroit en el que hace unas costillas a la barbacoa estupendas, así que nos encantaría que ellos nos hicieran un restaurante aquí, en una de esas super geniales caravanas, para alimentar a este gigantesco autocine, para que la gente pueda hacer un picnic con sus coches a la espalda. Y hemos elegido a cinco de nuestros directores favoritos, para que cada semana podamos festejar el trabajo de uno de estos directores; lo tenemos planeado hacer es pasar una de sus películas. Después, volvemos al Boom, donde tenemos este increíble artista visual, además de a Craig Richards en residencia… MIKE: Su única residencia fuera del Fabric London... El va a crear una fuerte red central musical jounto con invitados especiales para tocar junto con él. Él va a trabajar con el artista visual, al que podrías llamar VJ, pero al que yo prefiero llamar artista, podría decirse que es como meterse en la mente del director. CLAIRE: Hemos encontrados esos blues super geniales que estaban prohibidos en los años 30, así que serán la base para la banda sonora de los shows. Hemos intentados conseguir que los

mejores bailarines de ballet clásico hagan estas coreografías sexy, juntando estos dos mundos que nunca se juntarían. MIKE: Aquí es adonde queríamos ir con Manumission, siempre he deseado haber podido vivir en París en los años 20 con todos esos grades pensadores y poetas y escritores. Si los pudieras juntar a todos en un sólo lugar, el resultado sería muy especial, cuando juntas los mejores talentos en diferentes campos. Así que hemos intentado mezclar lo mejor del cine, lo mejor de la música y lo mejor de la danza, y estamos bastante seguros de que algo va a suceder. Aunque no sabemos qué será. Podría tener un efecto en la cultura en general por ir ese poco más allá. En l actualidad hay una falta de cultura, mientras l formula de pagarle a un gran DJ y llenar los clubs funcione, ninguno de los propietarios de clubs va a cambiar esta fórmula… CLAIRE: Ibiza es un lugar tan especial, aquí las fiestas necesitan estar a otro nivel y pueden estarlo, se ha hecho antes, por qué no hacerlo otra vez?

Yes, I dedicated all my life to music, I would say I was born with disco blood in my veins. I started really early, at the age of 13 I was already playing at clubs in Italy, then I continued to play while studying at school. HOW DID IT COME YOU PARTICIPATED IN THE DMC MIXING CHAMPIONSHIP 1987? At the age of 18 I was very attracted by the DMC Scratching Championship, this was in 1987, and I used to practice for 8 to 9 hours a day in order to be as precise as possible in scratching and spinning records. You know it was a natural thing for me, I used to play with 4 decks simultaneously, my friends used to call me ‘The Surgeon’ for my precise mixing skills ahahahah. Let me also add that I have a collection of 22,000 vinyls therefore I spent lots of time at the record shops around Europe, mainly London and Amsterdam... AND TO PLAY THE FIRST DAYS OF THE INFAMOUS SPACE TERRACE? I REMEMBER BEING THERE WITH ALL THE OTHERS DANCING TO THOSE BEATS... In 1987 my girlfriend at that time brought me to Ibiza and I suddenly fell in love with the island as I really wanted to play. Ibiza at that time was full of DJs playing for free, lining up for their turn to play - and when my turn came, the crowd really exploded and I realized that party people loved my funky soulful Disco style so I started playing everywhere, on many parties. Then in 1991 I was invited to play at Space and that was the key point for me because I was nominated the best DJ on the island, so I continued playing in 1992 with Alex P and Brandon Block at Space and also Amnesia, the legendary Aqualandia parties and practically everywhere. About Space, there was this idea of turning the terrace being just a chill out area without music at that point into a terrace with music, so Pepe Roselló, the owner of Space, allowed us to place speakers on the terrace, and magic happened because most of the people were loving it, so we decided to have the Sundays meeting at Space terrace raving all day long, and this Sundays at Space became Legend on the Island. You have to bear in mind that no mobile phones were available so people used to meet each other on Sundays at Space! It simply happened and trust me it was so cool and freaky that everybody wanted to experience it. I continued playing both inside and on the terrace for the next years with my old friend DJ Daniele Poli and I was playing the morning time 8am at Amnesia then immediately over to Space with

people praying and cueing up asking if they could play, nd if only for 1 song … it was funny because these DJ in the cue back in the days are now the famous ones. So I kept on playing everywhere on the island until 1998. I then had gigs in the most cool clubs in Europe - London, Amsterdam and mainly England and Holland for a few more years. I forgot to say that I was also taking a degree in Economy in Milan University while I was DJing - so it was really funny switching back and forth from crazy rave life to regular university routine. AFTER RETURNING TO IBIZA YOU AND LENNY IBIZARRE MET AND DECIDED TO JOIN FORCES CREATING A STUDIO COMPLEX AND A MUSICAL PROJECT, THE ARISTOFREEKS. LET’S START WITH THE STUDIOS, LOOKING AROUND I SEE ONE OF THE MOST BREATHTAKING INSTALLATIONS I HAVE EVER SEEN, THIS MUST BE THE DREAM OF EVERY PRODUCER, NO? 7 years ago I recovered from a personal issue and decided I wanted to produce music again (I also did some records in late 80’s using a black and white Atari system, making some releases etc) so I started over again to study sound engineering and 4 years ago I met Lenny Ibizarre who was interested in producing Disco music so we decided to build one of the best sounding studios in Europe. AND THE ARISTOFREEKS, THE NAME ALREADY IS VERY SPECIAL, WHAT IS THE IDEA BEHIND IT? We teamedup and built the studio and created the name ARISTOFREEKS for us, which for me represents people who are well educated, smart but with their own craziness they can’t get rid off. I mean I am what I am .... an intelligent and Party guy with style. And also because my family come from an aristocratic background. So for me the name ARISTOFREEKS was a great match. YOU WORKED WITH MANY KEY PLAYERS OF THE MUSIC INDUSTRY ALREADY AND RECENTLY HAD THE ORIGINAL CHIC SINGERS (NORMAJEAN WRIGHT, LUCI MARTIN AND ALFA ANDERSON) IN THE STUDIO AND AS WELL KATHY SLEDGE. WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM THIS COOPERATION? Yes we started working with Giorgio Moroder 2 years ago doing Donna Summer remixes with the original multi tracks, but then she died and her husband didn’t want to proceed. We were also DJing with Giorgio at the Cannes Film Festival two years ago and this gig he did with us became his first ever. Talking about Kathy Sledge - first of all let me tell you how much I like to work with her, we are musically exactly on the same page, she gets immediately what we want and vice versa, working with her is a pleasure. She is super cool, fun, and magic happens always during the studio sessions. We are currently doing a bunch of great new music in our studio, so stay tuned, killer tracks are on the way! Luci, Norma, Alfa, the original Chic singers are amazing as well, super smart, and their performance is awesome. We have just finished a 1 week session for new songs with them in our studio and trust me, magic happened on all the new songs with them. It is going to be a priceless awesome song we did with them for the 35th anniversary of the Disco Demolition day - kind of “We are the world we are the children” thing. I can’t say more due to agreements we have, but this is going to be HUGE! A UNIQUE MOMENT WAS AT THE OPENING OF THE HARD ROCK HOTEL WHEN NILE RODGERS CALLED THE LADIES ON STAGE PERFORMING 8.1

YES It was exciting to be on stage with Nile, Kathy, Alfa, Luci and Norma - we had a great disco time altogether - BIG FUN! HOW DO YOU SEE IBIZA TODAY IN COMPARISON WITH THE ‘OLD TIMES’ BACK IN THE 90’S? Ok Ibiza now I call the supermarket of fun for tourists . Before it was a super exclusive funky place for serious ravers. A mix of local hippies and VIP actors having real and not just showing off. It was spontaneous where people could express themselves in every way, now it turns out as a globalized pop superstar DJ place where they press tync buttons instead of decent mixing. Sí, me he dedicado a la música durante toda mi vida, yo diría que nací con sangre disco en las venas. Empecé muy temprano, a los 13 años ya estaba tocando en los clubs en Italia, después continué tocando mientras estudiaba en la escuela. ¿CÓMO FUE QUE PARTICIPARAS EN EL CAMPEONATO MIXING DMC EN 1987? A los 18 me atraía mucho el Campeonato Scratching DMC, esto era en el 1987, y solía practicar durante unas 8 o 9 horas al día para poder ser tan preciso como fuera posible haciendo scratch y pinchando discos. Sabes, para mí era algo natural, solía tocar con cuatro platos simultáneamente, mis amigos me llamaban ‘El Cirujano’ por mis precisas habilidades mezcladoras jajajajaja Déjame añadir también que tengo una colección de 22,000 vinilos, por lo tanto me paso montones de tiempo en las tiendas de discos de toda Europa, sobre todo en Londres y Amsterdam… ¿Y PARA TOCAR LOS PRIMEROS DÍAS DE LA INFAME TERRAZA SPACE? YO RECUERDO ESTAR ALLÍ CON TODOS LOS DEMÁS BAILANDO AQUELLOS RITMOS... En el 1987, la que era mi novia en la época me trajo a Ibiza y me enamoré repentinamente de la isla, ya que de verdad me apetecía tocar. En aquella época Ibiza estaba llena de DJs tocando gratis, haciendo cola esperando su turno para poder tocar – y cuando llegó mi turno, el público realmente reventó y me di cuenta de

que a la gente fiestera le encanta mi estilo funky soulful disco, así que empecé a tocar en todas partes, en muchas fiestas. Entonces, en 1991, fui invitado a tocar en el Space y ese fue el momento clave para mí, porque me nombraron el mejor DJ de la isla. Así que, en el 1992, continué tocando con Alex P y Brandon Block en el Space y también en Amnesia, en las legendarias fiestas Aqualandia y prácticamente en todas partes. Sobre el Space, había esta idea de convertir la terraza, ya que por aquel entonces era una zona chill out sin música, en una terraza con música. Simplemente ocurrió y, créeme, era tan genial y tan freaky que todo el mundo quería experimentarlo. Durante los próximos años, continué tocando en ambos, dentro y en la terraza, con mi viejo amigo el DJ Daniele Poli. Y tocaba por las mañanas a las 8 en el Amnesia, entonces inmediatamente iba al Space, donde la gente rezaba y hacía cola para poder tocar, aunque sólo fuese una canción… Es gracioso, porque esos DJ haciendo cola de aquellos tiempos, hoy en día son los DJs famosos. Así que continué tocando en todos lados por la isla, hasta el año 1998. Entonces me salieron trabajos en los clubs más cool de Europa, Londres, Amsterdam y sobre todo en Inglaterra y Holanda durante algunos años más. He olvidado decir que mientras estaba trabajando de DJ también me estaba sacando la carrera de Economía en la Universidad de Milán – así que era realmente divertido cambiar de una a otra, de la loca vida de rave a la rutina normal de universidad. DESPUÉS DE REGRESAR A IBIZA, TÚ Y LENNY IBIZARRE OS ENCONTRASTEIS Y DECIDISTEIS UNIR FUERZAS PARA CREAR UN COMPLEJO DE ESTUDIOS Y UN PROYECTO MUSICAL, LOS ARISTOFREEKS. Hace 7 años me recuperé de un problema personal y decidí que quería volver a producir música (también hice algunos discos en los 80 usando un sistema Atari blanco y negro, haciendo algunos lanzamientos, etc.). Así que volví a empezar a estudiar ingeniería de sonido y hace 4 años me encontré con Lenny Ibizarre, quien estaba interesado en producir música disco, así que decidimos construir los mejores estudios de grabación de Europa. Sí, empezamos a trabajar con Giorgio Moroder hace 2 años, haciendo remixes de Donna Summer con las multipistas originales, pero entonces ella falleció y su marido no quiso seguir. También estuvimos tocando con Giorgio en el Festival de Cine de Cannes, hace dos años, y este trabajo que hizo con nosotros se convirtió en el primerísimo. Hablando de Kathy Sledge – antes de nada, decirte lo mucho que me gusto trabajar con ella. En lo musical estamos justo en la misma página, ella entiende de inmediato lo que yo quiero y viceversa, trabajar con ella fue un placer. Es super cool, divertida y durante las sesiones de estudios siempre surgió la magia. En la actualidad estamos haciendo un montón de excelente nueva música en nuestro estudio, así que permanece atento, ¡estupendas pistas están en camino! Luci, Norma y Alfa, las Chic Singers originales también son fantásticas, super inteligentes y sus interpretaciones son increíbles. Not knowing where to start and where to end i will just say it’s 20 tracks you must have, covering all shades of dance music for lovers, groovers, dreamers, beautiful minds. Timeless tracks to be found on fine floors all over the globe for a long time to come, and this is only the first half of the year, more to follow!

Double pack mixed by Popof and Mathias Kaden, two of Cocoon’s finest artists. After 15 yearts cocoon manages to maintain a level of music that finds its admirers amongst many different floor addicts. For me bothmixes are more groovy, more diverse than former ones, easier to get hooked yet richer and more intense. Around 30 artists of highest level get melted to the soundtrack of the season so far.

Compiled by Jonathan Grey, he is one of my all-time favourite DJs, he embodies soulful, timeless, open-minded music in all its colours, blending it in finest balearic tradition into something that is hard to describe. 11 out of 10 was my first reaction on this incredible album, interviewing both was a pleasure and the album is still going up and down in our offices. The voice of Chris James made this album possible, Chopstick + Johnjon together are great but the three got the license to thrill. My album of the month if not the year. Incredible.

Pablo is a master of intense sounds, he can go as deep as very few without loosing track. The remixes from his ‘must’ album come from Soulphiction, Fosky, Vidall, Dactilar and more, taking the originals to a more groovy level, still veeeeery deep but danceable - somehow. Ideal to blow any afterhour in a private house overlooking the sea or warming up a skilled crowd to go onto a looong trip through music.

Timo is exploring once more the depths of electronic music in his own very sensitive way, always ready to blow your mind. Tracks from Eric Volta (incredible intro!), Igor Vicente, Martin Buttrich, Pezzner and more blended masterfully into an exquisite excursion into grooves. Something for your mind, body and soul. Definitely no fishing for compliments, therefore one of my favourites, all my respect.

Richie Hawtin aka Plastikman is back with a bang after a decade in a very special way, leaving no prisoners behind. All tracks are performed live at the Guggenheim NYC recalling the past for an avantgardistic moment converting it into futuristic states of groove able to reprogram your mindset at any time. Six trips on one LP, each one takes you an inch deeper into his very own reign of frequencies.

Fifteen killer grade dubs from the imprint’s rich back catalogue describe it best, stripped down versions of anyway great tracks make this selection a must for all skilled selectors, best played in no particular oder as they are very versatile and can be implemented in many ways - if you know what you are doing… Compilations like these make the future sound more groovy.

One of my favourite albums this month, ‘my favourite addiction’ as one of the tracks is called. Extremely danceable yet mystic, a romantic rollercoaster through various soundscapes. Made for the floor but you can easily take a fast ride with this sound into some other dimension. more of this please.

Darius Syrossian is in charge of compiling this 2 part collection of dance tracks to showcase the sound of Sankeys, ready to conquer the world from the three headquarters of Sankeys, Manchester, Ibiza and new entry New York. Darius’ trademark is 100% floor-oriented gems to trigger your urge to move on the floor but in his very own style, it is more likely an artist album within a mix album.

Mexican Louie fresco presents an ubercool album with some of the freshest tracks i have heard in a long time. My fave ‘Do Ya’ is a perfect example of his outstanding talent, cooking a floor at 118 bpm is not only difficult but only possibe if you know exactly about how to cook it the right way. Enough sex to fill three albums, this is definitely another sure shot from No. 19 music.

Labelowners Jaymo & Andy George take the decks to mix the third edition of highly acclaimed Moda Black longplayers featuring future stars and big fish in perfect harmony. Groove Armada, Alexis Raphael, Darius Syrossian or Manik welcomeSidney Cgharles, Ejeca, Marco Faraone and many more, out comes a highly attractive mix.

Another ‘not-so-new’ album but another killer, Frisco three piece live act Pillow Talk’s take on dancefloor gems is so fruitful that i see hope to hear more of that. Pop, classic R&B, soul and boogie rhythms melt to timeless groove anthems one after the other, out comes a killer album. Respect.

German duo D. Varga + M. Kübler deliver their third albu,, probably the most grown-up and definitely more floor-orientated yet still playful with the voice of Sascha Hedgehog still reigning most of the tracks. ‘Indie House’ as they tag this album themselves, and i can only agree.

An honest trip to the roots of house music, no fishing for compliments although it does not reinvent the wheel either. He himself says the idea behind it is to educate EDM fans about where electronic music really comes from. The vocals sometimes feel a bit disturbing because its tuned but that is what it might take to make those fans listen.

Ste Gould sent me a double pack of remixes from the album and while listening i already fell in love with most of them. The original album is fine chill to drum n’bass, lounge to easy listening - the remixes go one step further, from finest spheric deep house to weird drum n’bass interpretations everybody will find something on it. My fave is their own take on the title track, a fine deep journey leaving you in outer space with an eternal smile.

Margeir is Iceland’s favourite DJ and one half of Gluteus Maximus together with President Bongo. 2 mixes, both are intriguingly intense, music to take you on a mental trip, from island’s folcloric over classics like Recondite’s ‘tie in’, Luomo’s Tessio or DJ Koze’s ‘La Duquesa’, it is as unique as the Blue Lagoon itself, a man made lagoon in island containing hot water and mud rich in silica thanx to a geothermal powerplant nearby.

Another Late Night Tale, from the hands of Bill Brewster’s Nightshift, second in his After Dark series on LNT. Once more he showcases his sensitivity and unique style when it comes to compiling music of the likes of The Grid & Robert Fripp, The Gino Fontaine or The Detachments. Slow cooked music stews with the emphasis on funk, soul, grits and corn fried chicken.

The debut album shows clearly the incredible bandwith of this maltesan artist, so rich in sounds, textures, frequencies brought together in a masterful way forming a unique trip into our electronic universe. Crossing borders, tearing down boundaries exploring the unexplored in a deep, sublime way using multiple ways and instruments as if they were made for each other. Please much much more of this.

Tayi Bebba is a highly conceptual work that manages to balance a highly cerebral concept with making some good old fashioned bangers. Tayi Bebba is an album tour of an imagined island each song representing a location, event or ritual. Flavours of house, Footwork and Hip Hop punctuate your migration with a very specific sound palate giving this amazing work a cohesive feel.

A healthy dose of disco never goes wrong, and if the dose is measured by norwegian Disco King Prins Thomas then the output is as spetacular as thisd album. Not really danceable but definitely superfunky yet always surprising. For his fans another must, for newcomers maybe too advanced, ukwis.

FEW NOLDER / CLOUDS

Few Nolder (inspired by creating a new folder i guess :)) is a new kid on the block but already creating a big fuzz. This EP i would call nasty house, especially Chall - a tricky track that just keeps getting more intense at any moment without being overloaded at all but for the ones who like to move definitely a killer track. The others are almost as good, very groovy, tricky yet very sexy. A master tool in any skilled DJ’s hands.

The original already created a big fuzz, it is one of those tracks that instantly become anthems because of its originality. Different melodies create a tension that is geniously released with one dominant bassline resulting in a heavy groover. The remix from Subb-Ann takes it to another level, straight kick and a light melody prepare the crowd for something i would call wonderful obsession. Wow.

JEY KURMIS / LIL’ NICK FRENCH

SAILOR & I / TURN AROUND

Jey Kurmis is also fresh, this is the first EP i hear from him and he got me by the balls immediately. The track ‘Lover’ is frightingly addictive, starting in an off beat and rollin into an instant booty shaker, adding freaky sounds and vocal bits as if he invented the manual to dance. Title track ‘Lil Nick French’ is just as good, pumping kick meets rolling bass line, freeky synths twiggle in to be torn apart and reconstructed to a must-dancethang, and when the filtered vocal jumps in you are left shaking on the floor. Just the right dose of everything necessary to trap you on any floor. More if this please, Mr. Kurmis.

Title track and the b-side are kind of new wave-pop-fuelled tracks with a rich package of sounds, only for the skilled dj - but the cherry and outstanding track is delivered by Kristian + Frank aka Âme - almost 4 minutes of intro to finally lead the listener into a frenzy desperation to enjoy an addictive beat. It introduces itself as it would be the most normal thing to happen - that is what makes it a hymn. Played it as last track finishing a long set to end a night, the result was nobody left but all were begging for more...

BAMBOOK / HEARTS & ROADS

He is the man for obvious but always surprising floor killers, always delivering, always on the edge, always good. Title Track Persistence of Vision is one of those tracks you think you know for your whole life as it is so intense yet light at heart, addictive bass line meets phat kick, addictive melodies and a killer vocal split in a deep and a childish copy twirling together as one. ‘Mustang’ is more floor orientated and driving whilst ‘Aldebaran’ is the more spacey one, containing old Video game sounds. Re.You add a remix of the title track, converting it into a floor monster with darker atmospheres, triggered melodies and phat bass lines.

Loving all the tracks but the Finnebassen remix from ‘Humble Hearts’ is a killer. He is having an incredible phase in my humble opinion, his sounds just blow you away. Best played towards the end of a warm up or a great afterhour track for those who know. The original gave me the sensation of driving at 200 mph through a desert - don’t know why... His way to combine melodies, synths and rhythms in an always surprising hypnotic way asure him a place amongst the best producers of 2014. Full stop.

LAURA JONES / EMBRACE

RODRIGUEZ JR. / PERSISTENCE OF VISION

Laura has a special talent for creating atmospheres that catch your attention immediately, the way she builts up her tracks is highly evasive. my fave on this ep is ‘Bright Lights’ - constantly evolving, always deep and smart in a way, intensely groovy leaving you no choice but to move and follow her story until the end. Embrace, the title track, is another deep beauty, rich in sounds, a quite oldschool rhythm pattern in perfect balance with its melody. The whole EP is pure listening pleasure and a great tool for a sophisticated set.

EDU IMBERNON / FADING DOWN

The album was running for 3 consecutive days in our offices and i would have repeated it maybe forever but i was told off... This is the second remix package, ‘Run Slowly’ is the chosen track and remixes come from Andre Lodemann, Few Nolder and Quarion. All three go the 4x4 way, all are very beautiful, Few Nolder is a bit more nasty & twisted and Quarion’s take is very sweet - but my fave is Andre’s version, he leaves the track in its own atmosphere, adding an addictive beat and supporting melodies to it - simply breathtaking i would say. An outstanding EP for the most beautiful moments, best played whenever you got an awake crowd in front of the speakers, they will love every split second of it.

The original is a tribal monster with heavy basslines, tricky rhythms and few space for imagination, Avatism turn it into a deep ‘Marschmusik’ frenzy par excellence whilst Atelier Francesco dig out the beauty in it before turning it into another floor burner using more heavy duty lines in order to make youj dance. ‘Midnight roller’ as the original is a bongo baby with a heavy overdose of sex appeal, twisted bass lines, classic built-up and vocal bits for the light seekers, and Nicson turns it into some more spheric, schizo version yet again very sexy.

Edu has had a great development as a producer, this EP finally sets him amongst the big shots at the tender age of 25. ‘Fade it all out’ is a hymn, tattoing its theme into your mind for a long time without fading out. The vocal does a great part of the job, almost left original yet very intense, and the melodies and synths do their job at just the right time at the right dose. ‘At dawn’ is more dynamic, synth-driven and heavy, at full volume this track is set to burn any floor.

STEVE BUG / LION ON THE HUNT

Another new kid on the block, presenting his version of dirty, twisted house almost reaching a dryness coming out of technoid setups.. ‘No one’ counts on a driving kick and bass line, big room-delayed and -filtered vocals and heavy bass lines, enclosed by dry synths and repetitive melodies. ‘Little Mama’ is not as little as it seems, a sub bass drills into your brain, heavy sounds twirl around an even heavier bass line. #something for the later hours, people jumping and sweating to this addictive groove as there would be no tomorrow.

Poker Flat head honcho Steve Bug as guest on GPM, presenting a track that definitely sounds like its name, african feeling while moving to a strong kick and basslines, heavy melodies drill your neurones as you urge for more. Smash TV’s take is ma favourite, rich in sounds, grooves, basslines and most cool vocal bits, willingless shaking of extremities is guaranteed while a biig smile comes over your face. Matthias Tanzmann takes it deeper, much deeper, strings and hihats dominate the reduced setting.

WANKELMUT / WASTED SO MUCH TIME

Vale is back on Cadenza, three tracks in finest tradition, ‘Agosto’ helps you leave planet earth in a smooth way, Viole(n)t thoughts take you into deeper space while PsiAmsterdam gets your ass on the floor at the end of the universe. A careful dosification of sounds are his trademark for me, always enriching sounds, building up constantly, harmonic yet surprising, charming and addictive.

This young artist is one to watch, his output is enormous and the quality is always outstanding. Here he presents a track together with Lohn La Monica, one of those that push you with every second, driving yet sexy, the vocal is very intense and you can feel the desperation the title contains. My fave is the extended vocal mix, perfect for prime time on any sexy floor. Remix duties come from Kiwi, N’to, Jacob + Koelsch, all search a different take on the original, and all are great.

NEVERDOGS / HALL 9000 Italian duo Neverdogs are having a great time, definitely on the rise and having a lot of fun. Title track Hall9000 uses a sample of the infamous ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ and is simply great. Supergroovy from the bottom up and the sample fits perfectly. Leon takes it a step deeper and more spacey, better for the late late hours. B-side ‘I took a lot’ is another groovy gem from deep down under, and S-Press 2 take it to the danceflor, rough and very groovy. Hall9000 is definitely one of the highlights this summer in underground clubs - yes we still got them - and the one or other great after hour. Lecka!

LEE VAN DOWSKI & DEAN DEMANUELLE / THE IMPOSSIBLE Great teamwork, leading to four floor weapons par excellence, dry as hell and groovy as heaven. Nothing for the faint-hearted, from detroit to germany, straight to the legs. If played in the right moment each can take any crowd higher. My fave is ‘Inside Out’, smooth, relaxed but very effective, solid house kick meets deep rolling bassline, spheric sounds take away all irrelative in your mind, leaving space to feel free and move. Slow and deep, best played transitting a warm up to the next level. All together a great release from Mobilee, proof that they are at the right moment with the right sound.

DAVID MARSTON / THE JAMAICALIA

VALENTINO KANZYANI / ANALOG SUM

PALERIDER / THE OTHERS the original is a spheric track with chillstep rhythms creating a mystical atmosphere, Hding Jekyll takes it to the 4/4 world and creates a driving deep house track with great bassline and filtered voices whilst Jelly & Fish bring a fresh dose of disco melodies to the house. DJ Sweep finally combines the two other remixes to a pure house gem cracking melidies and vocals, rebuilding it 4 by 4.

LOST APES / APESHIT Brother Barefoot is back with his new partner xxxxx, together they form ‘Lost Apes’ and release their first output. 4 tracks with genuine atmospheres, ‘Robots’ is a funny, minimalistic groover with a message, ‘So beautiful’ takes things more serious, storming rhythms and a driving voice. “Passing Clouds’ creates a mental atmospere, swirling snares flirt with a dry kick, various basslines play with each other, and finally ‘Marry Me 4 1 Night’ lives of its dynamic setup, alarming sounds and lots of hats claps and snares.

BENEDETTO & FARINA / YOUR SMILE the original is finest deep house feat. the voice of jaw, addictive melodies meet solid setup. M. Tolfrey + F. Lombardo pull out some acid melodies playing with the other ingredients, the dub versions reduce it but for me the killer is Barem’s take - one of those ubercool tracks you could herar for hours, rolling bassline, supersexy take on melodies and the right dose of jaws great voice - out comes this genious remix.

Fantastic ep for conaisseurs, name is program as jamaican vibes flirt with deep sexy house grooves as if they always were in love with each other. Crossing borders is just one effect this EP has, best heard in Sa Trinxa or any similar beach vibe (definitely hard to find anywhere…) from the hands of Jon Sa Trinxa, it definitely makes your day.
