FROM THE PUBLISHER July 2017 Dear Reader, Summer is here, marking the time for vacations and family fun! Exotics and convertibles come out of their garages, and road trips begin, boats hit the water and people start jetting to more remote locations. At this time of year, I often fancy myself as a meteorologist because of my intense interest in the weather when thinking about cars, events, travel and all seasonally related things. During the summer travel scene, the weather becomes a hot (HOT!) topic because even the most ferocious pilots want to avoid offending a line of summer thunderstorms. Well, over the years, I have never, ever gotten it right...on the weather. The marketplace for classic, luxury and exotic cars is a whole different story. That environment, believe me, is hot, very hot. There are more cars for sale, more buyers available and in a rising economy, both forces (buying and selling) are clashing like a wonderful summer thunderstorm rolling through the neighborhood causing no damage (except a good soaking) and resulting in a champagne sunset. So it is with car sales for the rest of the summer. The one-off, bespoke, “private treaty” marketplace is loaded, the high end, luxury and exotic car dealers are intensely busy, the auctions are chock-full of offerings…and there are more auctions than ever. This is a little bit of short notice, but for those of you who have not yet planned your travel for the last weekend in June you should definitely plan to go to the second annual Barrett-Jackson Northeast, held at the Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino in eastern Connecticut (June 21-24). This is a beautiful setting in the rolling hills just north of New London. Our friends at Barrett-Jackson have strategically set up this venue for the desires of buyers and sellers, and all types of auto enthusiasts, to be fulfilled. The venue has been totally rearranged to accommodate even more enthusiasts, more cars and more sales! We hope to see you there! The bespoke, “private treaty” marketplace has two really unusual offerings that are fresh to the market. This issue’s Publisher’s Showcase specifically focuses on a Squadra Lupo Praga and a Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo. n the fourth day of July, American citizens around the globe celebrate our country's independence. Whether they do it with a BBQ, setting off ﬁreworks or buying an American car, there are so many different ways we all celebrate Independence Day. Every year for our July issue of the duPont REGISTRY™, we make sure that we feature cars on the cover of our magazine that represent our country. This year we have a classic 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird, Yenko Corvette and the brand-new Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. 1970 PLYMOUTH HEMI SUPERBIRD The famous Superbird is the result of Plymouth taking the Road Runner and modifying it for NASCAR. The example of the Superbird featured on the cover of this magazine is a special one that will be offered up at Mecum Auction's Harrisburg event which runs August 3-5. What makes this Superbird so special is the fact that it's one of 58 Hemi examples that were produced with the four-speed transmission. This impeccable piece of American automotive history comes with 17,000 miles on its odometer, the original window sticker, warranty card, IBM punch card and more.

Along with physical items, this car also comes with prestige as it won Best American Muscle Car at 2003 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance and OE Silver Certiﬁcation at 2002 Mopar Nationals. 2017 YENKO/SC™ SUPERCHARGED CORVETTE Back in 1969, Chevrolet produced a limited run of Camaros that housed the ZL-1 all-aluminum big-block engine. Joining these Camaros were just two ZL-1 factory-built Corvettes. In honor of these ZL-1 Corvettes, Specialty Vehicle Engineering (SVE) has introduced the 2017 Yenko/SC™ Corvette. At the heart of these supercharged Corvettes is SVE's custom-built 416 6.8-liter LT-1 engine. This engine produces a massive 800 horsepower and 750 lb-ft of torque. Only 50 examples of these Limited Edition Yenko Corvette Specialty Vehicles will be built, so if you're interested, act fast. 2018 DODGE CHALLENGER SRT DEMON The automotive world has been fawning over the new Dodge Challenger SRT Demon since it was released. Why? To put it simply, this super-muscle car produces an overwhelming 840 horsepower and 770 lb-ft of torque. To make this much power 24

possible, Dodge installed a massive supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI® engine. This may be the same engine found in the well-known Hellcat, but Dodge has included 25 major component upgrades for the Demon including the larger 2.7-liter supercharger. Want to face your own Demon? The MSRP is set at $84,995 (excluding the $1,095 destination charge, but including the $1,700 gas guzzler tax). However, for $1 extra you can purchase the ability to unlock the car's full potential through the Demon Crate. That isn’t a typo, it actually costs $1, as do the options to include the passenger seat, rear seat and trunk carpet kit. These three automobiles are just a taste of what the American automotive industry has to offer. Nowadays, America is producing a wide array of cars, from the most popular electric cars to supercars that are competing against Europe's most iconic exotic car manufacturers. We can't wait to see what next year brings for the American automobile.

The reason for the party is the completion of the one-millionth Porsche 911. What began in 1963 has continually evolved, and raised the bar for all other sports cars. Only a few models in history have made it to middle age, which is a testament to the engineers. Dr. Wolfgang Porsche reminisces about his first experience in his father’s car: “Fifty-four years ago, I was able to take my first trips over the Grossglockner High Alpine Road with my father.
