March 2017 Dear Reader, The Scottsdale Auction Week was, as expected, over the top! Every auction day (or night) was punctuated by new records for all types of automotive art on wheels. When the records weren’t being broken, there were hangar parties, receptions, seminars, exotic car displays in VERY exotic locations and of course, the duPont REGISTRY™/LIVE “After Party” at the absolutely stunning W Hotel in downtown Scottsdale. Across all the auctions, the top 10 cars (all European marques) sold for a cumulative $44,000,000; averaging $4,400,000 per car. This was a staggering pace for the rest of the cars that followed, earning another $215,800,000 for the sellers (total $259,800,000). Surely, another $201,000 has sold off the block to break the $260 million ceiling. Total dollars spent were up over 2015 and 2014, remember 2015 was a down year due to a handful of very expensive cars auctioned in 2014. Top dollar cars, like the top ten, were strong with rarity and provenance capturing the buyer’s attention. The middle ground was soft due to an oversupply of average-condition cars (resulting in not as many record sales as expected). However, the enthusiast market was on fire with domestic marques countering the European lead in the high end by dollars and numbers. Barrett-Jackson lead the auction field in offering quantity—1,703 vehicles sold out of 1,719 offered—and dollars spent—$102 million at press time. It is important to note that Barrett-Jackson numbers include nine cars sold for charity, with no fees (zero) levied by the auction. One of the cars offered was for the benefit of Janie’s Fund—Steven Tyler’s 2012 Hennessey Venom GT Spyder. The rock star offered a week in his Maui home to entice more bidders. And, the duPont REGISTRY™ offered up an autographed guitar (signed by the whole Aerosmith band) to go with the car and the price immediately jumped by $50,000. Total for the sale was $800,000. All charity cars sold total $2.2 million raised for charity. Congratulations and a big thanks to Carolyn and Craig Jackson for all they do (at no charge) for so many worthwhile charities! There were several Celebrity Cars that crossed the auction block. The duPont REGISTRY™, once again, assisted in spirited bidding for Floyd Mayweather’s 2011 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport. It came on the block in front of a capacity crowd who cheered when several copies of the duPont REGISTRY™ with Floyd’s car on the cover were held up by Floyd and Craig Jackson. Floyd then autographed a copy for Craig and a large cover poster accompanied the gorgeous white Spyder off stage with a high bid of $1,900,000. We were glad to help… but a no-sale. Maybe it sold off the block later? Importantly, the weather was not Arizona-perfect, but that didn’t deter the excitement— the crowds were huge. Even the duPont REGISTRY™/LIVE AFTER PARTY gala at the W hotel was packed. Pool side and barely under shelter, it was another great finish to a very busy, and wet, Friday, followed by a super Saturday and the Sunday Finale in the Sun. Regarded as “The Ultimate Aston Martin,” the One-77 is and will forever be one of the finest English automobiles ever created. While Aston Martin has long been known for their luxury sports cars, the One-77 brought the manufacturer into the supercar realm for the first time. Now, one of the 77 examples of this supercar is for sale within the United States.

very car collector has one piece within their collection that stands out, and this automobile could be the star of even the finest collection. The U.S. has two One-77s that we know of residing within the country, which would make a collection that includes this car more substantial than ever before. If you’ve ever wanted to be a part of a very exclusive club and be the talk of the automotive community, this is your chance. The Aston Martin One-77 was first introduced to the world at the 2008 Paris Motor Show, where only a portion of the car was unveiled. It wasn’t until March 2009 at the Geneva Motor Show that a metallic blue concept of the One-77 was revealed in all of

its glory. Shortly thereafter, the finished car made its way to the Concorso dâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;Eleganza Ville dâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;Este in April 2009. It was on the shores of Lake Como that the One-77 won the design award for Concept Cars and Prototypes. From this point forward, the Aston Martin One-77 became regarded as automotive art. The One-77 is much more than rolling art, as it was also introduced as the fastest Aston Martin of its time. Under the hood rests an incredibly potent and naturally-aspirated 7.3-liter V12 engine (AM77/089) that is able to produce 750 hp and 552 lb-ft of torque. Mated to power plant is a fortified version

The exterior is an absolutely stunning Aviemore Pearl finish, which is rumored to have received its name from a town called Aviemore thatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s situated in the Highlands of Scotland. This blue finish rests upon a carbon fiber monocoque that is surrounded by an aluminum body shell. Every curve and surface found on this car is as reflective as they were when the car rolled off of the production line. The cabin of this One-77 continues the elegance introduced by its exterior thanks to a fine, dark leather that is highlighted by contrasting white stitching and carbon fiber trim. The color scheme of this interior blends perfectly with the hues found on the exterior, a feat that only an artist could achieve. The physical design of this cabin brings all of the focus onto the driver, allowing them to have every necessary control available at their fingertips. To say that this is one of the most exquisite and driver-focused automotive cabins would be an understatement. Every surface found within this English supercar remains virtually untouched, showing no wear.

MERCEDES-BENZ UNVEILS AMG GT C EDITION 50

he new Mercedes-AMG GT C Coupe will be launched as the “Edition 50” model. The “50” comes from the 50th anniversary of the company, which was founded back in 1967, according to Daimler. This new variant will be available in the exclusive designo Graphite Grey Magno finish, mixed with black chrome highlights. To match the exterior finish are the cross-spoke AMG forged wheels. Inside, the black and silver theme continues with the nappa leather in silver pearl/black. From the looks of it, the star of the car’s cabin would have to be the black AMG Performance steering wheel covered in DINAMICA microfiber with “Edition” lettering on it. Also, the AMG Interior Night Package comes standard, which includes black steering wheel spokes, paddle shifters and door sill panels.

AUTOFLUENCE LAMBORGHINI AVENTADOR S REVEALED: MORE POWER AND FOUR-WHEEL STEERING

ven the best knives need occasional sharpening. It’s no surprise that Lamborghini has rolled out an updated version of their flagship:

the Aventador S. Recently a teaser video was released on YouTube which piqued our curiosity as to what was coming. By carefully studying the efficiency of the engine’s air flow, the variable camshaft timing and intake manifolds have been massaged to deliver 740 horsepower. The Aventador S arrives with 740 hp and 509 lb-ft of torque. A top speed of 217 mph is achieved by raising the red line from 8,350 to a screaming 8,500 rpm. The engine enhancements are a logical evolution of their potent V12, but other changes took us by surprise. It will be Lamborghini’s first production car with rear wheel steering. While they didn’t go into specifics on how many degrees the rear wheels will be able to move, it is a clear response to another Italian flagship with a similar system.

BENTLEY UNVEILS THE WORLD’S FASTEST FOUR-SEATER

entley has just announced what they’re calling the “world’s fastest and most powerful luxury four-seat car.” The new Continental Supersports returns with more power, a faster top speed and quicker 0-60 mph time, all while having four doors and four seats. According to Bentley, the top speed of the new Continental Supersports is now 209 mph. Additionally, the luxury sedan can rocket from 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds (the new Continental Supersports Convertible will complete the sprint in 3.7 seconds). These advancements in speed are thanks to Bentley’s W12 engine, which has been modified for the new Continental Supersports. The changes made to the car’s heart includes new turbos, engine hardware and a torque vectoring system. All of the modifications result in an increase of 79 hp and 160 lb-ft of torque over the 2009 Supersports model. Altogether, the new 2017 Supersports has 700 hp and 750 lb-ft of torque on tap.

ow that production has ended on the Hennessey Venom GT, the car will become harder to find. Fortunately, for one bidder, a Venom GT went up for auction at the 2017 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale event. And, what’s more, this was actually Steven Tyler’s personal car. Yes, THE Steven Tyler from Aerosmith. The car sold for $800,000 when it crossed the block at roughly 9 P.M. EST on Friday. Included in the lot was a week’s stay at Steven Tyler’s house in Maui and a guitar signed by the entire band (which was donated by none other than duPont REGISTRY). These models are the handiwork of SAPOR Modelltechnik, a small shop in Ingolstadt, Germany, that produces - or, at least, produced - exquisite 1/8th scale model classic cars from 1992-1994. SAPOR’s models aren’t anywhere as large or as fast as the actual cars but are impressive nonetheless. Though it won’t actually run, engines still crank over, while steering, brake, and gearbox, mechanisms are also workable. Plug it into an electric power source, and both lamps and horn spring to life. SAPOR’s models consists of nearly 3,000 parts - many of them handmade. The finished products measure in at about 21 inches long, 8 inches wide, and weighs approximately 11.5 pounds - and that’s without the custom wood display stand.
