It achieved this reputation due to many well-known artists living and painting or coming here on extended stays to paint. The first artist to visit was Norman St. Clair in the mid 1890s. Not long after that, Gardner Symonds, a nationally known artist trained at the Chicago Art Institute, visited and bought property in 1903. At that time, most of Laguna was undeveloped and Symonds had his choice of many exceptional view properties. He purchased land and built a home at 2419 S. Coast Highway. We can assume he chose this locale because it had the most scenic stretch of coastline. Probably the best known plein-air artist from California was Guy Rose. Rose was friendly with Symonds, as were many other accomplished artists. Many of these painters were guests of Symonds and painted this stretch of the coast. The Irvine Museum has spectacular paintings done by both Rose and Symonds of the Rockledge coastline.

t the pinnacle of the world’s most exclusive country clubs are those that have been awarded the elite designation: Platinum Clubs of the World. To achieve this honorable recognition, a club must excel in six categories voted on by Panel Members and approved by an Advisory Board. Only 100 clubs in the world are bestowed a Platinum title every two years. All 100 are ranked according to their combined totals in many categories including, Amenities, Facilities & Service Levels. Qualifying clubs must be private golf, country and city clubs defined as having an array of amenities in addition to golf.

Illustrating the standard of luxury, the 2018-2019 Platinum Clubs of the World represent 30 countries across the globe. Selected by the world’s most proficient connoisseurs, historians and experts, the list is celebrated for its international diversity and adaptation. Thirteen new clubs were admitted in this election, with Augusta National in Georgia taking the number one position for the first time in history.
