Founded in 1975, the DeLorean Motor Company has been around for almost half a century. While the company did manage to develop a few concept vehicles, it was the DMC-12 that launched the automaker into stardom. With a futuristic design, the DMC-12 became an icon thanks to its inclusion in the Back to the Future films. Much to the dismay of fans and futurists, DeLorean went quiet after their ﬁrst and only fully realized vehicle ceased production. But recently, rumblings surfaced about a revival. These murmurs kicked when the famed automaker released teasers point ing toward a new future. All information revolved around an unknown vehicle that DeLorean Motor Company touted as its next-generation prototype, gar nering buzz throughout the automotive community.ThenewDeLorean Alpha5 has ﬁnally been unveiled. the DeLorean Alpha5 does boast some very impressive points. Being an electric model, one of the most important factors is the powertrain’s range. The range is estimated to be over 300 miles, DeLorean announced, thanks to a 100plus-killowatt-hour battery. In a press release, the automaker also says that the top speed is limited to 155 mph. Other meaningful features are the four-seat conﬁguration and the inclusion of only two gull-wing doors. Once each sizable door opens, passengers are greeted with ample space to get into or out of the seats. That’s quite the departure from the two-seater DMC-12.

“The Alpha5 is a representation of the past 40 years of DeLorean,” DeLorean Motor Company chief marketing o cer Troy Beetz said in the release. “There was this enormous responsibility to make sure we honored the history of the DeLorean brand but an even greater responsibility in curating its future. … I think we did both with the Alpha5.” With the DeLorean Alpha5 unveiling, the world eagerly tunes in to see what’s next, as the company hints that even more is on the horizon, giving us all hope for an exciting future. The Audi e-tron GT proves its subdued stats wrong.

Electric cars often sell by their stats. While range ﬁgures and charging curves are important, there’s more to these cars than their onboard tech. Some of the best EVs today aren’t segment leaders on paper. A perfect example is the 2022 Audi e-tron GT. With just 238 miles of electric range from a full charge, it’ll run out of steam while a comparatively priced Tesla Model S still has well over 100 miles in its hypothetical tank. If it’s far from the best on paper, how could Audi’s ﬁrst electric GT still be a winner? It’s simple. The e-tron delivers in the areas enthusiasts care about most: driver enjoyment, build quality, and on-road capabilities. The Tactical Green EV in the accompa nying gallery isn’t even the head honcho of its household. With a base price of $100,945, including a $1,045 destination fee, it’s $40,000 cheaper than the RS e-tron GT that outperforms every measurable metric.

The “base” e-tron GT’s secret weapon is that steep discount. Its 469 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque output still feel bonkers fast on public roads. Engage “Boost Mode,” and it’ll pump out up to 522 horsepower for brief periods. With the correct set tings, it’ll reach 60 mph in 3.9 seconds before hitting its top speed of 152 mph. The e-tron catapults itself out of corners thanks to instant torque delivery. It wouldn’t be surprising to learn that its stats are slightly underrated, as it never fails to pin you in your seat and draw out a proper grin. In the corners, the e-tron GT’s Porsche roots help it shine. Thanks to a shared architecture, wheelbase, and suspension setup, the Audi’s performance limits are nearly as high as its

Stuttgart sibling. For the most part, it’s a stable, capable sedan that’ll allow you to push it without defaulting to understeer. Even on its eco-friendly low rolling resistance tires, there’s plenty of grip. While the e-tron GT’s air suspension setup features softer tuning, limiting its high-speed capabilities, it surpasses the Porsche on the commuting comfort front. It still lags in the braking department, as it’s easy to overwhelm the “base” car’s brakes during a spirited drive. Inside, the e-tron GT is unmistakably a premium product. Whereas many new EVs lean on the futuristic, the Audi sticks closer to its roots. This means a traditional dashboard layout with a familiar 10.1-inch screen in the dash and a 12.3-inch unit in front of the driver. Haptic feedback buttons remain absent, favoring traditional buttons. Our tester’s cooled and heated 14-way adjustable seats proved comfortable on longer drives. From the nicely stitched black leather to the carbon ﬁber trim, everything in this six-ﬁgure EV’s interior feels worthy of the elevated price tag. As it focuses on on-road comfort and luxury supplemented by performance, the Audi e-tron GT won’t be the EV for a Sunday drive in the canyons. In its 2022–’26 strategic plan, Ferrari commits to preserving its heritage while bolstering its fleet andhigh-performancewithelectrichybridvehicles.

The Prancing Horse estimates that Icona and Supercar models will account for less than 5 percent of total sales, while its Special series will expectedly account for at least 10 percent. The most signiﬁcant unveiling of the plan is the brand’s first electric vehicle, set to debut in 2025. By 2026, Ferrari expects that 40 percent of its o erings will retain an internal combus tion engine while the remaining 60 percent will be either hybrid or fully electric. As with competitors like Lamborghini, Aston Martin, and McLaren, Ferrari plans to electrify most of its core models over the coming years. However, as of this writing, the carmaker has no plans to go fully electric. The strategic plan doubles down on the importance of the internal combustion engine as a vital element of the Italian marque’s heritage. Not even its EVs will use o -the-shelf parts. The carmaker plans to design and build its electric motors and battery packs in Maranello, incorporating as much motorsport knowledge as possible.

The ﬁrst key strategy in Ferrari’s plan in volves product diversiﬁcation. The Italian carmaker intends to launch 15 new vehi cles between 2023 and 2026. The recently unveiled Purosangue is part of this count.

Ferrari expects its most practical prod uct to account for less than 20 percent of total vehicles sold by limiting production. However, close competitor Lamborghini has seen its comparable Urus SUV dominate as its most sold vehicle year after year.

Ferrari’s latest strategy follows the con clusion of its 2018–2022 plan, which also aimed to launch 15 vehicles and increase its customer base. Despite the global pandemic, the brand saw a 25 percent increase in its customer base, who are on average eight years younger than its existing buyers. The Purosangue will likely bolster this trend, as added practicality opens it up to a broader market. As this latest plan gets underway, it’s clear that Ferrari is diving head first into its electrified future. While current models such as the SF90 Stradale and 296 GTB already count on hybrid technology to boost performance, the brand’s commitment to manufacturing significant components such as electric motors and battery packs should give it greater flexibility when designing its upcoming releases. That said, there is no mention of any intent to eliminate the brand’s most important engine, its naturally aspirated V12. While it may not rely on pure internal combustion forever, it seems the brand’s core product will live on.

For a Sunday drive, the buckets make a strong case for themselves, keeping the driver in place while delivering relative comfort. That comfort level does not live up to daily driver status, though, and you lose the middle seat in the second rowtransaxle gearbox.

“It’s almost like fashion. In summer, we’re thinking about fall. We’ve checked with purveyors, so we know what’s coming,” Bradley explains. “I’ll think about what we’re looking for in a specific dish, how it’s going to fit within the menu. A lot of development goes into it. I usually draw a sketch … so I can understand how it’s going to look and come together.” After procuring the ingredients, Bradley and some of his 14-member kitchen team will test di erent cooking techniques, playing with time and temperature and most important: how to execute it during service. “Cooking a dish once while you’re experimenting is one thing, but being able to replicate it every single night over and over takes a lot of organization and testing at this level,” he shares. “If all goes well, it takes about a month, but it depends on so many things aligning. If it struggles, it may never see theOncemenu.”adish is a go, there’s still a long road ahead. “We start to refine the way the actual dish looks by repetition,” Bradley says. “The vessel it’s served in can alter that, so we do a lot of research to find the right porcelain and pieces.”

Standing in the the Ferrari work shop in the middle of the Italian town of Maranello is like nothing else you could imagine. Big open spaces, quiet corners, and gardens with towering trees in vite workers, and the rare guests who are allowed to enter (always without cameras), to be part of an environment designed to achieve exceptional performance. The reason for this particular visit: the unveiling of the new world-recordbreaking watch that comes as a result of the partnership between Swiss independent watch brand Richard Mille and Ferrari. The joint unveiling of the world’s thinnest mechanical watch — the RM-UP 01 — took place in a Ferrari building alongside the Ferrari museum, a few blocks from the factory. It was the perfect setting to make a statement about the relationship between Richard Mille, which bills its watches as “racing machines for the wrist,” and the Prancing Horse. For this project, Richard Mille collaborated with the creative laboratory of Audemars Piguet in LeLocle, Switzerland. According to Yves Mathys, general director of the Richard Mille factory in Les Breuleux, Switzerland, the inde pendent maker had to set aside all previous knowledge of big complications aside to compete in the ultra-thin realm.

“Like Ferrari, which continu ously seeks to gain another few thousandths of a second while racing, we fought to shave o the last hundredths of a millimeter to achieve the flattest possible watch,” Mathys says. “But those last dozen or so micrometers were hard won in a long and arduous process.”Morethan 6,000 hours of re search, development, and testing went into the making of the RMUP 01. A daring departure for Richard Mille, whose signature aesthetic usually results in inyour-face tonneau-shaped skele ton watches with ingenious cages and high-tech materials. The RMUP 01 watch is none of that, and its unveiling was met with gasps from a stunned audience, most likely expecting anything but ultra-thin. Typically using advanced hightech materials and outrageous sizes meant to go the distance with its sports ambassadors (Bubba Watson’s $750,000-dollar watch on the golf links, or Rafael Nadal’s $1 million watch on the tennis courts), Richard Mille slimmed way down for this marvel. It flipped the vertical tonneaushaped case onto its side to form a horizonal playing ﬁeld across the wrist (measuring 51 millimeters in diameter) and elongated it in order to set what may well be an unbreakable record. The watch is also as toundingly lightweight at less than 3 grams, or a tenth of an ounce, slightly heavier than a penny. Naturally, Ferrari weighed in on certain aspects of the watch, including typeface for the numer als, hand styles, case material (titanium), and the alluring laserengraved stallion on the right side of the dial that is so exact you can see the horse’s muscles. The time indication of the watch appears in a subsidiary dial, centered at the top center, and the balance wheel on the top-right has been ﬂattened and enlarged to allow for greater thinness while still delivering an acceptable power reserve. Unlike other watches, there is no middle case in this time piece. There is a front, a back, and a gasket that holds the movement in place within the allotted space. The only crystals are the tiny round ones that protect the time indication and the balance spring, whose unique ultra-flat escapement system is patented.
