August DWS - Concord Harvest Day Celebrating the Harvest with a Festival!Â
The August DWS was helping out at Concord Harvest Day which was located in Gehringer Park Recreation Club on August 19th, from 9am-3pm. People could work in three shifts; on the first shift, three out of ten people were from Deer Valley! During the first shift, we mainly helped people set up their booths because it was before the actual Harvest Festival. It was really nice getting to chat with the vendors and seeing what each of them were selling! We also helped out with the food preparations and we gave trash bags to each vendor so that they would throw trash away in the trash bags and not on the ground! The first shift was also pretty slow and easy-going, which was great because we got to walk around to see all the booths and all of the colorful, bountiful harvest. This DWS really helped us get to talk with the community, and we got to bond with our members! It also helped us give thanks to our community, and for us to recognize the beautiful harvest that everyone worked so hard to make. Thank you to all who attended!

Dog Toy Service Event Making Toys for All the Doggies!
We had a meeting on September 7, 2017, where we spoke to members about all the amazing upcoming events we have. Towards the end of the meeting, our officers Kareelyn DonJuan Fernandez and Tiara Thlang took charge of a service event. The service event was to make dog toys to give to our local animal shelter! Every single member who attended the meeting, helped with making the dog toys. In total, we had 34 members who helped, ranking in 56 service hours! Making the dog toys was very fun and there were never any boring moments. The energy was really high and everyone was very helpful. If one person didn’t know how to braid or tie a toy, someone else would step in to help! There were three people who were cutting up the old shirts which would be braided up into the toys. We made the dog toys for dogs of all sizes and ages! If we didn’t have such amazing members, officers, and advisors, this event wouldn’t have been possible! A special thanks to the Kiwanis Advisors, Angel and Argentina, for taking the precious pictures which capture everyone coming together during the event!
