€270 million nature resort – including a five-star hotel and hundreds of apartments, townhouses and villas – is coming to life in the Eastern Algarve, just a stone’s throw away from Verdelago beach in Castro Marim. Named after the nearby beach and having changed considerably since it was first announced around 20 years ago, Verdelago Resort is being dubbed “the only five-star nature resort to be built on the coast of the Eastern Algarve.” The project has abandoned plans to build a golf course, having replaced it with a “Green and Leisure Park”, which developers say will become a natural sanctuary for 110 local species from frogs, toads and butterflies to kingfishers, ducks, hoopoes and white storks. The resort will also include a 197-room five-star hotel, over 340 residential tourism units, a lake, a sports complex, walking and cycling trails, and a “centre for environmental protection”, and will be built in an 85-hectare area with a “low construction density” of 8.7%. Verdelago Resort is being developed in phases and is, according to the developer (Verdelago – Sociedade Imobiliária, S.A), the “largest investment ever made in this area of the Algarve”. It is also expected to create around 600 “direct and permanent jobs”. Construction of the first phase started last year and is due to be completed in 2022. It will include 102 residential units, 57 of which are expected to be ready by next summer. These include 24 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, 26 townhouses and seven villas. The remaining 45 units are expected to be completed shortly after. Prices start at €450,000 for the apartments, €670,000 for the townhouses

6

and €1.5 million for villas. A date for the opening of the hotel and the remaining facilities has not yet been revealed. The 197-room hotel will feature a gym, restaurants, spa and “all the services and amenities associated with well-being, health and quality of life”, the developer says. Also planned is a centre for environmental protection and conservation, designed to promote the “protection of the area’s ecosystem and biodiversity”, as well as a 37-hectare green park, a two-hectare lake located in the heart of the park and several pedestrian and cycling paths. The project also features a sports complex consisting of four paddle tennis courts, two tennis courts, and a large area for sports activities, a village club where the resort’s main services will be based, three swimming pools, a kids’ club, and a concierge service. Miguel Saraiva from Atelier Saraiva + Associados, the architecture firm in charge of the project, says the resort is located in a “unique area of the Algarve, boasting a pristine white sand beach which is one of the jewels of the Algarve and, despite having one of the warmest waters along the whole coast, remains an exclusive location in a well-preserved area”. As he explains, the goal is to keep the resort fully-immersed in nature.

“The golf course has been eliminated, we placed bigger emphasis on recreational areas (pools and green areas), we reduced the hotel’s density and integrated it completely in the surrounding landscape,” he said. Meanwhile, the resort’s general manager Paulo Monteiro has highlighted the hundreds of jobs that will be created and stressed that Verdelago “is the only fivestar nature resort in the Eastern Algarve with a low construction density that is located near the sea and is completely integrated in the surrounding natural landscape”. “Verdelago is an extraordinary project on an international level. It is part of a new generation of resorts that respond positively in terms of social, economic and environmental sustainability,” he said.“We are not insisting on the topic of sustainability because it is appealing, but because we respect it. Nature as a new luxury is truly a reality in the lives of people, as proved in several economic sectors such as tourism and real estate. “This is frankly an area that has not been explored very much. Demand is higher than the offer, and the luxury options are practically inexistent.” According to the developer, Verdelago Resort is also the “first tourist resort in the country” to have committed to the Green Globe certification – described as one of the most demanding international certification programmes for sustainable tourism – from its construction phase. The resort will be managed by Blue & Green, which manages several five-star resorts and hotels in Portugal including Quinta das Lágrimas in Coimbra, Marriott Praia d’El Rey and WestCliffs Resort in Óbidos, and Vilalara Thalassa Resort in Porches (Algarve).

The wonderful world of fungi

id you know there are more than one hundred medicinal benefits attributed to consuming mushrooms? They’re known for being antioxidant, anti-cancer, anti-diabetic, antiallergic, antibacterial, antiviral, antiparasitic, and for providing cognitive benefits to learning, focus and memory! They’ve stood the test of time, with their history of medicinal use going back over 3000 years to Chinese and Ayurvedic Medicine. More recently, both Europeans and North Americans have also embraced mushrooms, taking them as dried supplements, or in the form of medicinal infusions or tinctures. Fungi are also a delicious edible food, rich in vitamins and minerals. Mushrooms are a part of the Portuguese culinary tradition, used to prepare appetisers and side dishes. like mushrooms sliced and fried with onions, as well as in oven roasted pork dishes. conducted throughout the year, but November to February are the season for the most edible species such as chanterelles, boletus, wood mushrooms and others. The Algarve is known for its diversity of mushroom species, but always remember to learn from an experienced forager before collecting any mushrooms for eating and properly identify species that you collect! As part of a healthy lifestyle, you may want to consume mushrooms in the form of a medicinal tincture. This is where the chemical constituents are extracted from the mushrooms and preserved in alcohol. Taken one to three times daily under the tongue can provide similar benefits to eating the mushrooms and help you with your overall health. Polycultured is a local reputable source for medicinal mushroom tinctures. See www.polycultured.com/portugal

Mushroom Rice

● 1 1/2 cups of rice, 6 cups Stock or water ● Salt, pepper & favourite herbs ● 2 tbsp coconut oil or Olive oil ● 1 1/2 lbs Mushrooms ● 2 Spring onions 1 clove of garlic (finely chopped) ● 1 Red or green bell pepper (finely chopped) To start Add the stock and rice to a large pot. The trick here is for the rice to keep bubbling in plenty of water until cooked. After about 10 minutes it should be ready. Once tender then carefully drain the water off the rice and set to one side. To continue Chop the mushrooms and fry in a large frying pan with the coconut oil until golden brown (Keep a little of the cooked mushrooms to the side for the topping) Season with salt, pepper and add your favourite herbs. Stir in the finely chopped spring onions and the red or green peppers. (These do not require cooking as can be eaten raw) Add the cooked rice and stir in well. Don´t miss out the tasty brown bits at he bottom of the pot To complete Serve in a bowl with the extra mushroom topping.

Medi-pedi at Mara's As theraputic as a pedicure may be, there is a lot that can be diagnosed during this procedure. Mara from the Alegria Beauty salon in Vila Real de Santo António explains.

T

he word pedicure is derived from the Latin words pedis, which means "of the foot", and cura, which means "care". Good foot treatment is heaven, but with so many different pedicure options out there it can be hard to know where to go and what to look for. Unlike regular pedicures, the medi-pedi focuses on your foot's health. The procedure is performed by a podiatrist who examines your feet and is able to diagnose and treat skin problems like infections, warts, athlete’s foot, ingrown nails, etc. The service includes a basic foot exam, which is helpful for anyone with tired, overworked feet, and ESSENTIAL for anyone with diabetes or peripheral vascular disease. Your neurovascular status is evaluated, your skin is examined for lesions, and you can consult with the doctor over your concern. A medical pedicure is definitely therapeutic for your feet but what you may not expect is the peace of mind it provides…. You can REALLY relax at a medi-pedi knowing you are in a clean environment, with no worries about picking up a toenail fungus or bacterial infection. All instruments are sterile, all files and materials are disposable and packed separately and all procedures are performed with aseptic technique. At Alegria beauty salon, Mara gets your feet dancing again.

Pedras d'el Rei Located next to the access point of Barril Beach, the beautiful resort of Pedras d'el Rei is not only the perfect place for a holiday, it's grounds, restaurant and pool bar are also open to the public.

O

pened in the late 1960's, Pedras d'el Rei, along with the sister resort Pedras da Rainha in Cabanas were the first resorts of their kind. Since opening they have had three different family owners, the current being from Lisbon who spend most of the year here and are very present at the resort, taking daily walks around the grounds. Set in 35 hectares (that's 35 rugby pitches, or larger than the average golf course), Pedras d'el Rei has over 900 accommodation units, two-thirds of which are privately owned. The company also owns the train that shuttles beach goers back and forth to Barril beach and also the restaurants on the beach, which are currently rented out. Barril beach was once the location of a small tuna fishing community, and the remnants of this bygone industry have been transformed into the beach's tourist facilities. The most notable feature of the Praia do Barril is the Cemitério das Âncoras (Anchor Cemetery), a rusting memorial to the abandoned fishing community. It has always had a blue flag status and also has the 'Gold quality' award from the environmental association Quercus. At Pedras d'el Rei you'll also find the Restaurant Vale d'el Rei, a Piano bar, Pool bar, Bar Nora, supermarket and news kiosk, which are all open to the public. The stylish Restaurant Vale d'el Rei has a small but beautiful terrace set amid old characterful trees, and a large interior space. The friendly atmosphere is paired with excellent service and international gastronomy, focusing on Portuguese cuisine by chef Armando from Tavira. Pedras d'el Rei is a beautiful place to visit, the restaurant if not already, will undoubtedly become one of your favourites. amily owned 'Typical Tandoori restaurant' really does offer something for everyone. Dawinder Singh and wife Mandeep Kaur take care of the service, brother Maninder is the chef and father Parminder Singh is always there to greet you. Originally from Pasla, a village in Jalandhar, a district of the Punjab State in India, similar to Tavira in size. Dawinder came to Portugal in 2011 and worked at the restaurant for the previous owners for 3 years. He eventually bought the restaurant in 2014, which is when his brother Maninder came to work at the restaurant, after working as a chef in Lisbon. Dawinder noticed that many families with young children would often ask if they could make something different for the children other than Indian food. This is where the pizza, pasta, and eventually kebabs made it onto the menu. Currently there is a selection of 125 dishes on the Indian menu, and 36 on the alternative menu. The restaurant now has an authentic pizza oven, kebab grill and a coal-fired tandoor for the freshly baked naan bread. Restaurant Typical is located close to the river in the very heart of Tavira, overlooking the bandstand and close to the new bridge. A great place to enjoy a light lunch or an evening meal, you'll be spoilt for choice. See 'Typical, Indian Restaurant, Tavira' on Facebook.

Guest Mar Olhão is fast becoming the 'place to be', with the rejuvenated boulevard and numerous trendy bars and restaurants. Why not book a night or two away at the beautifully restored Guest Mar, for a fabulous weekend away

G

uest Mar is located in the historic area of the city of Olhão. The building is from the XIX century and it was a gift from a fish canning businessman to his daughter. The building was carefully renovated to become a guesthouse, keeping the original architecture; the two cupolas, at 3 foot 10 high, an imposing central staircase, the original and elegant façade with the restored enchanting entrance door as well as the interior doors. The privileged Guest Mar’s location provides an authentic local atmosphere and a memorable experience to all its visitors. Located in one of the oldest neighbourhoods of Olhão, just 5 minutes walk from the market, the Marina, the traditional restaurants and

bars. The Ferry boat to the islands of Armona, Culatra, Farol and Deserta is also just a short walk away. It is the sea and fishing that motivates the detailed decoration of the guest house. The Guest Mar has 8 rooms with private bathrooms, air conditioning cable TV and free wi-fi. The fully equipped kitchen is a common area where breakfast is served with fresh local produce. You can also take advantage of the quiet reading area and the stunning roof terrace where you can enjoy the “Ria Formosa” and the countless rooftops of the city. Algar Vila A

We meet Patricia, owner of Algar Vila, one of the oldest Real Estate Agencies in Tavira.

lgar Vila first opened it's doors in January 1986, in Luz de Tavira by cousins Ricardo Martins and Cesariano Martins. In 1988 the company was bought by Patrick Bonadie and it was during this time Luisa Cabecudo worked for Patrick. When Patrick retired in 2000, he offered the company to Luisa, although as she was already working as a qualified lawyer, her neice Patricia was offered the managers role. The two now work together in harmony. Patricia says 'It is quite unique to have both lawyer and Real Estate working together in the same building. It saves a lot of time during the process of buying or selling a property'. Today, Patricia has been running the business for 21 years. In that time she has seen many people come and go, and recognises many faces around Tavira. In fact, she has 'bought and sold' the same properties several times, for different buyers and sellers. In 2009 Algr Vils saw its first big crash in the property market. Patricia managed to survive the crisis due to the fact that her costs were low, and staff were minimum. She has seen

22

incredibly low prices, back in the day when details had to be faxed and sent in the post. In her early years her main clients were English, German and Dutch. During 2005/06 the market was swamped by Norwegian, Swedish and Danish. Patricia says that 'Today, due to 'Brexit', the British are not buying so much, more are selling and we are seeing the German market increase again… many are cash buyers'. 'The Covid-19 pandemic does not seem to have affected property prices. More people are working from home and are realising they can do so from anywhere in the world. They are choosing to stay in the place they would usually holiday, and why not?' 'Also, people with smaller apartments are now looking to buy property with more outside space and selling up. The younger generation are buying these properties which is healthy for the market'. Patricia's only concern is that more people are trying to buy or sell their properties without using an agent or a solicitor. She says 'The risk in doing this is very high. It is the agents job by law to ensure all paperwork

is correct and the land/building is registered correctly. Also debts are checked to make sure the property is clear. These steps are taken before the property is listed, ensuring buyers don't waste a lot of time and money on what they thought was their dream home'. Algar Vila is a small family business. Their approach is not aggressive at all. Patricai says 'I see people first, then the business. I like to be as transparent and as honest at all times. It is for this reason I keep in touch with many clients, and most of our work comes through recommendations. Algar Vila is located in the centre of Tavira close to the Maritime Police sation. Why not pop in and say hello the next time you are passing. Contacts: Travessa das Cunhas, nº 29, 8800-372 Tavira. andemic or not, the Algarve is still one of the most popular holiday destinations in the World. You do not have to be rich to have a wonderful time here as there is something for all lifestyles. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic travel can be uncertain and often involves additional testing, which adds to the cost. When you are on holiday with children it can be tricky if you have to stick to a budget. You will be buying them souvenirs, going out for dinner and from time to time taking them to a theme park. It is all part and parcel of a family holiday. Here are some tips to save money whether you are on a budget or not. The best tip which can literally save you hundreds of Euros before going on holiday, we have saved for last. In the Algarve there are many theme parks, from Zoo-marine to the various water parks and they all have promotions to attract visitors. It is just a matter of knowing how to benefit from the discounted offers. You can pick up flyers with a discount coupon on arrival at Faro airport, if available. But you can already plan this while still at home. Local newspapers like The Portugal News and The Portugal Resident also have online versions where you can find promotions so you do not need to wait until you are at your destination to take advantage of promotional offers. Your family will have the same experience, it will just cost you less. Booking a hotel offers the benefit of access to their facilities. However, this often is a more expensive option versus private self-catering accommodation. The latter may have your preference because of Covid-19 as there are less shared spaces and no maids coming into the property to make the beds every day. In addition you have the benefit of your own equipped kitchen & facilities so you do not always have to dine out and you can prepare lunch for your family when you go to the beach. Make sure you make plenty. You do not want your kids to go into a tantrum which could end up in overspending just to keep them happy. When you are at the beach you will notice that some bars have happy hour at different times of the day, which means with a bit of planning you can save 50% on drinks. When it comes to eating out, as they say when in Rome, do as

www.eastalgarvemag.com

vacation and the Romans do. You do not have to go out for dinner every night, but when you do go out for lunch or dinner see where the locals are going. Sometimes these places may look a bit different than what you are used to, but here is where you will find genuine Portuguese cuisine at the lowest prices. Moreover, if you are planning an inland journey make sure you have lunch and/ or dinner in the area before heading home. This is an opportunity to mingle with people from the area, sample delicious Portuguese dishes while supporting both the local economy as well as your wallet as prices are noticeably lower than in coastal areas. There is a great variety of self-catering accommodation in the Algarve to choose from. Some with private or communal pools, located near the beach, in a sea side town or on a beautiful countryside location. Your choice depends on your preference and most likely your budget. This is where you can save hundreds of Euros and depending on the length of your stay and type of accommodation possibly over a thousand Euros without compromise! How is this possible? It is becoming increasingly popular to book accommodation online via holiday rental portals like Booking.com, VRBO, and Airbnb etc. As a renter you need to be aware that the portal charges the owner a commission, which is included in the rent you pay. In addition, some portals charge the renter a service fee too. These additional costs can easily be 15 to 25% percent of the price you are paying to the portal. In the end, whether an accommodation is booked via a portal or direct, you book exactly the same property with the same service provided by the friendly staff of the local property management company who will meet you on arrival and will be on hand during your stay. When hotels offer discounts, you may end up in one of the less desirable rooms with no view or even next to an elevator. This is not the case with private, self-catering accommodation; what you see is what you get. That is the reason why many families have chosen to book their family holiday with Happy Homes Algarve and have become repeat customers. When they make a booking they rest assured that their funds are safely held in an escrow account separate from the company´s day to day operations. It is what some call a third party account. Homeowners do not have access to these funds until after your holiday. You may ask why we are making an effort to point this out to you. Well, it is the best tip for you and your family to save money when planning a holiday. Equally important to us is that you are aware of your options. You may not be aware that the revenue of portals are taxed in tax havens like the Netherlands, Ireland, Luxembourg and Switzerland. The local economy does not benefit from this at all. By

www.eastalgarvemag.com

booking directly with Happy Homes you have more money to spend while on holiday which supports the local economy. This will give you that uplifting feeling of righteousness knowing that you are contributing to the well-being of all the friendly faces that you will meet during your stay. In addition you should also be aware that some portals allow for dynamic pricing, if the homeowner agrees. It is a practice that airlines and hotels have had in place for many years and is now implemented by holiday rental portals. What does this mean to you? The portal suggests that if there is little demand that the price for the property is lowered for a certain period, but if there is more demand they will increase the price. Their argument to homeowners is that it will increase their rental income. Schemes like these are never for the benefit of the consumer. When searching for accommodation on a portal, these properties show up on the top of the list. If you are new to the area you may not be aware of the going rate and book. So the portal who for years convinced you that they are looking after your interest is actually doing the opposite. Happy Homes Algarve has always strived to get homeowners and renters the best possible price. Over the years we have also supported various charities and will continue to do so. During the pandemic, Happy Homes Algarve has not asked for government support nor fired or furloughed any personnel. Our staff continue to work full time, either from home or in the office, offering stability and continuity for their families. They are all much appreciated members of the Happy Homes team. You can help by booking direct and spending the money you saved from not booking via a portal in the local economy during your vacation. It is a win-win situation for you and your family and doesn’t cost you a cent/penny more. It does not get any better than this! For us at Happy Homes Algarve booking direct is the biggest cost saving we can recommend to you. We keep prices fixed so you know what to expect. Having said this, should you prefer to book the same property via a holiday letting portal we are just as happy to welcome you on arrival and assist you during your stay! How you book your holiday makes no difference to us nor the home owner. The choice is yours and we respect this. We wish you a pleasant stay in the Algarve and we would love to personally meet you in the future at the check-in of one of our fine holiday homes. ON THE ROAD

READERS CARS

W

e love cars... and by the response we've had from our new motoring section, so do our readers. We bumped into Paula from Loulé who has this lovely Mini Moke. It has been in the family since new when Paula's mother drove it out of the showroom in Lisbon 32 years ago, and drove it down to the Algarve. The car is still in the original colour, and in order to keep it in the family, Paula's son is buying it. Today the Mini Moke is considered a classic. The prices of these cars are set accordingly and you can buy one for something in the region of €14,000-€16,000. The Mini Moke is a

www.eastalgarvemag.com

small, front-wheel-drive utility and recreational convertible, manufactured and marketed originally by British Motor Corporation (BMC), and subsequently marketed under the Austin, Morris and Leyland brands. Designed by Sir Alec Issigonis and John Sheppard, the Mini Moke is noted for its simple, straightforward, doorless design, and its adaptability. Originally prototyped as a lightweight military vehicle using the engine, transmission and suspension parts from the Mini van, the design's small wheels and low ground clearance made it unsuitable as an off-road military vehicle. The design was subsequently offered in civilian form as a lowcost, easily maintained vehicle, achieving

global popularity for being lightweight and recreational. The first Mokes were manufactured at BMC's Longbridge, Birmingham plant, with 14,518 produced in the UK between 1964 and 1968. 26,000 vehicles were manufactured in Australia between 1966 and 1981, and 10,000 in Portugal between 1980 and 1993 when production ended. The name combines Mini with Moke, an archaic term for "mule. If you would like to have your pride and joy featured next month please contact us at info@eastalgarvemag.com Happy motoring!

Costa Car Clean Not just a place to have your car cleaned, Costa Car Clean in Olhão offer much more for your car care

Y

our car is a major investment and you spend a ton of money maintaining it — oil changes, tyre rotations, brake pads. But have you ever considered something as simple as washing your car as an investment, too? Just how often do you need to do it and how important is it? Sometimes it's obvious when your car needs a wash. After a long day of driving down a dusty, gravel road, for example. Or when that flock of birds takes aim at your car's bonnet while you're parked under what you think is an ideal shaded tree. But what about washing your car as part of its general maintenance schedule? Whether you do it to protect the paint and minimise rust so you can drive it forever, or to keep the car in pristine condition for higher resale value later, there are several reasons to wash your car regularly.

36

How Often Is Enough? Most experts recommend washing your car every two weeks or so throughout the year as a general rule. If you live in an area with a lot of salt — either from a nearby ocean or from salt trucks on the winter roads — you probably should wash it more, as salt can corrode the metal and cause rust. Those who spend a lot of time driving in the countryside, should give their car a little more TLC, as well. The aforementioned bird business is acidic enough to eat through your car's paint job if it's left too long. Same goes for dead bugs and tree sap, so they should be washed off as necessary. Your car can go longer between washes depending if you don't drive it every day, or you keep it in a garage and out of the elements. Leather seats need to be cleaned and conditioned to keep the leather from cracking and aging, at least every three months or so. If

you drive a lot (say for a living) or the interior of your car is exposed to the sun, condition the leather every two months. Costa Car Clean offer a simple wash (Vacuum interior and boot, wheel wash and body wash and dry) from only €14, up to a full Valet including engine clean and waxing. They also offer many other services including oil changes, headlight polishing, brake pads and disc replacing as well as car sales. They are based in Olhão, coming from Tavira at the second roundabout (with the cube). You'll need to continue to the next and come back on yourself, take the slip road on the right just off the cube roundabout. People

Sara de Melo Castanheira is an expert in Occupational Therapy and Quality of Life. She is also the Technical Director of SER Igual, an Association of special rehabilitation services in Tavira

Summertime rest for caregivers S ince last year, for summer vacations in 2020, SER Igual have promoted the Intensive Rehabilitation Programs for kids and teenagers with all kinds of disabilities. We are promoting these programes in order to give some rest to caregivers, especially for caregivers who come to East Algarve on vacations. These programs are made of different therapies depending on the necessities of each child and their family. Normally these intensive rehabilitation programs can be of two types: ● Intensive rehabilitation with conventional therapies such as Occupational Therapy, or Physiotherapy and Speech Therapy. This year we also included Personal Training in these programs based on evidences of some scientific studies made in Europe. These intensive programs can work for maximum 4 hours per day, 5 days per week, depending of the age of the child and their disability; Normally lasting for 1 or 2 weeks depending on the needs of the family too. These kind of programs are specific for families who aim to have some rest during a period of the day for one or two weeks and are great for kids and teenagers with motor delays, sensorial disorders and communication or relational difficulties like autism. ● Pediasuit program and Padovan program that consists of 4 completed weeks of 4 hours per day, every weekday, using special suits and specific equipment. These programs have a specific evaluation schedule to be applied in the beginning and in the end of the program in order to check the specific goals of each child. This program is specific for kids with motor delays and neuromotor diseases. Both of these programs start with an interview done by the clinical director of SER Igual, where I will check the most important priorities of the family, the abilities and the difficulties of the child/ teenager and also to analyse what is the best program for each family and their child/teenager. After the first interview I will have a meeting with the team of therapists and together we decide

www.eastalgarvemag.com

what are the best therapies and we amend a previous program with some goals for the child/ teenager and her family. We also decide which therapist is going to be the manager of the program (the person that will talk directly with the family explaining day by day the results and goals of their child/teenager). After this procedure the senior therapist spends the first hour of the program with the child/teenager and the family showing them around the Association and the equipment. After the first day we can have the evaluation completed and we elaborate the intervention plan where we set the main goals, and then we continue with the reahbilitation plan. These programs are very expensive for all families. Having a kid with special needs in health and education brings a lot of challenges to many families in Portugal and world wide. The therapies are very expensive, specially for kids that need more than two therapies per week. And many of the main caregivers do not rest as they should. Having a disabled child brings a lot of mental, emotional and physical stress. Many parents are in a burnout state and are surviving just to keep all the necessities for their child. These parents are heroes and need help. Especially the caregivers of children with low function and autonomy. Since 2020 we have helped families to have their deserved rest from differents parts of Portugal namely from Porto, Lisbon, Alentejo and the Algarve. We help these families and also we promote the East Algarve as a great place to stay and enjoy some beautiful days of rest. If you want to be part of these community and help these parents to have some deserved rest, dear reader you can act in two ways: - You can advertise these rehabilitation programs to other parents that you think that are in need and that could come to Tavira and nearby for holidays in order to have some rest, and or, - Sponsor one intensive rehabilitation program to one kid/teenager and help them grow and live healthier and with more autonomy. If you are interested in more information about these Intensive Rehabilitation Programs and about our Association SER Igual, please feel invited to

come along in Mato de Sto Espirito, Tavira, or to contact us by our email geral@seronline.pt, by our facebook page @SerIgualPT or by phone 918 18 020. Thank you for your time. Stay safe and stay tuned for next month's article.

The charming boutique based in Tavira is known for its quality ranges of both vintage and new furniture, however, this seems like just the beginning for this business as they exclusively announce to us their ‘Made in Portugal’ concept. We are regularly asked for a particular style of table, chair, cabinet and other types of furniture and, whilst we stock a wide range of vintage and new furniture, sometimes a customer’s specific requirements cannot be met by these. With our ‘Made in Portugal’ service we can make many of the items our customers are asking for. The dining table featured on the opposite page is the perfect example: One of our customers asked us if we could supply a solid oak table with curled metal legs to complement the four beautiful dining chairs they already owned and intended to keep. The Gleam Team 2 years on and still going strong – The EA Cleanup Team

T

he 29th July marked the EA Cleanup Team’s 2 year anniversary since the group first formed, and what a past 2 years it has been! 50+ events later, the majority amidst a global pandemic, the group which has a core number of about 10-12 regular volunteers continue to do their utmost to keep the Sunday morning voluntary litter pick on-going and a regular occurrence in the East Algarve weekly calendar. From Olhão right up to the Portuguese border of VRS Antonio the EA Cleanup Team managed to recommence the litter pick-ups for 2021 in early June. Tavira based Daniel Fox, who originally created the group said:- I am so proud of the effort and commitment shown by everyone who has attended any of the events since we first arrived by boat on Cabanas Island 2 years ago, especially during Covid-19 and it has been an absolute pleasure to get the team up and running again this year post the winter lockdown.” Despite the pandemic, Covid-19 rules and restrictions the EA Team have strived to continue their good work that has seen them visit the Tavira Mercado, Skate Park, Gran Plaza, Conceiçào Station, Santa Luzia and Cabanas on two occasions since ‘Project Relaunch 2021’. All Covid-19 rules have been followed at all times during the events and volunteers have been advised that masks and social distancing

44

guidelines must be adhered to, but this hasn’t stopped the good work that keeps ongoing, with the stand out event taking place at Conceiçào Station (pictured) which was attended by 14 volunteers – 6 of whom – for the first time. “When we first started the group we focussed on collecting the debris washed up on the beaches as I think we have all become more aware of the pollution in our seas. However we soon came to realise that there were other parts of the Eastern Algarve that required our attention and these were the areas that the Tavira Verde do not reach - away from our streets and footpaths that they do clean regularly” says Sheila and Gilroy Coleman of Conceiçào. “We have lost count of how many beer bottles we have picked up in recent times.” “We see ourselves as complementing Tavira Verde and with the support of the local community we hope to encourage more Portuguese to join us. Mindful of the need to avoid contravening pandemic regulations we shall be waiting until the end of the holiday season before we return to the beaches.” Vanessa and Steve Deacon, who moved to the East Algarve in September 2020 and have been ever-present since this year's relaunch added “Litter is a real problem to our environment, water ways, the sea and all that inhabit our beautiful planet. We hope to inspire others to join an organised litter pick like EA Cleanup but if you can't perhaps you can start one in your local area or street.”

“Remember it is not about picking up others mess but about stopping rubbish entering the habitat and water ways where it does damage to wildlife and the ecosystem, eventually entering the human food chain. Litter picks bring communities together, joining in a common goal in the fight against pollution and keeping our local area clean and beautiful for us all to enjoy.” Daniel concluded “The work we do is incredibly satisfying, especially in this summer heat. It is a great opportunity to give something back to the local environment we love. The team has really come together and also formed a good social crowd which plays an important part in ones health and well-being, especially in these difficult times we currently live in”. “We are really looking to expand - what is already quite a diverse group of all ages over the coming months and get more local community groups on-board so if anyone has any suggestions please do get in touch!” So why not join the EA Cleanup Team one Sunday morning, it is a great social occasion and all for a great cause – the environment of our beautiful Eastern Algarve! HYDRANGEAS Something we all remember growing in our grandmother’s garden.

H

ydrangeas are workhorses in the garden. They produce sumptuous petals of colour to add beauty to your garden. But they need not be forgotten once their flowers have died. Hydrangeas can be captured easily in dried flower arrangements, providing the last gasp of the summer garden. Pick the blooms on a clear dry day in late summer and hang to dry. H. macrophylla and H. paniculata 'Grandiflora' are especially good for

drying. Most species of hydrangeas can be grown in either full sun or partial shade. They are resistant to most insects and diseases. They can be grown in a wide range of soil but prefer a rich, moist soil and should be planted where watering will not be a problem. Avoid dry windy sites, as their large, soft leaves lose water quickly, especially on hot, windy days, causing the foliage to wilt. Flowers are produced on the new growth; therefore, it is important that hydrangeas be given some care each season to ensure that vigorous new growth occurs. Irrigate plants weekly to replace moisture loss. Prune flower stems after they have bloomed. Fertilise hydrangeas in early spring with a complete granular fertiliser at the rate of 2 pounds per one hundred square feet. Apply fertiliser as broadcast top dressing. During long periods of drought, water thoroughly each week.

Pruning: There are many different types of hydrangeas; many require different methods of pruning. First, one must know the identity of the hydrangea in the landscape, so the proper pruning procedure can be implemented. Hydrangea arborescens 'Grandiflora' -Hills-of-Snow Hydrangea Prune hills-of-snow hydrangea to the ground line each winter or early spring because it flowers abundantly on new growth, and is frequently killed back during winter. If a larger shrub is desired (3+ feet) and/or it is not killed back over the winter, prune less severely. Remove certain branches to the ground; cut others back at varying heights from 1 to 3 feet. Hydrangea paniculata 'Grandiflora' -- Pee Gee Hydrangea This is the most commonly planted hydrangea because of its massive displays of large white flowers in mid-to-late summer. They gradually turn to pink and remain on the plant in a semi-dried condition long after the leaves have fallen. Pruning involves the removal of dead flowers, if unattractive, and an annual corrective pruning of vigorous shoots. Thin and/or cut back the previous season's growth in late winter or early spring, since flower clusters occur on newly developing branches. Without regular pruning, this hydrangea can rapidly become quite overgrown and out of scale in the landscape. It can, however, be developed into a single or multi-stemmed tree form. Hydrangea macrophylla -- Hortensia or Florist Hydrangea

46

this is a commonly grown hydrangea with large globe-shaped flowers. It is frequently forced by florists and sold as an indoor pot plant during the spring season. Once moved outdoors, however, colour is dependent upon the pH of the soil in which it is grown: blue if acid; pink if alkaline. There are also several white-flowered cultivars. Pruning can be accomplished at two different times. Late summer is more desirable, since most Hortensia types flower only from the end buds of upright or lateral shoots produced during late summer and fall of the previous season. Prune as soon as the flowers have faded and strong shoots are developing from the lower parts of the stems and crown. Remove at the base some of the weaker shoots that are both old and new. Always try to keep several stems of old productive wood, with a sufficient number of stout new stems that will flower the following season. Early spring pruning (March), although acceptable, will result in the sacrificing of bloom for that growing season. Pruning this species too late in the fall (after September) is harmful. New growth, both vegetative and reproductive, will not develop proper maturity. Hortensia is a good seashore shrub; flowering is more profuse in an open, sunny location. This, however, increases its vulnerability to bud killing. Winter protection of the plant should be initiated in December to preserve buds for next year's flowering. Tie the shoots together and wrap with burlap. If left unprotected, delay any spring pruning until the buds swell in order to determine which wood needs to be removed, and then cut back to below the point of injury.

Hydrangea quercifolia -Oak leaf Hydrangea This plant is grown primarily for its handsome oak leaf-shaped foliage, excellent fall colour, attractive flowers and interesting winter bark. It is ideally suited to a lightly shaded or protected location, and if grown in an exposed site, it is subject to some winter dieback. Prune back in early spring to remove dead wood. Cut back to below the point of injury and remove old wood to the base. Hydrangea anomala petiolaris -- Climbing Hydrangea Climbing hydrangea is a desirable midsummer flowering woody vine that attaches itself by aerial roots to brick, masonry or wood. It requires little or no pruning. If certain shoots have grown out of bounds, reduce their length in summer. Frequently, concern is expressed about climbing vines that may be inundating a tree and causing irreparable damage. There has never been a proven case of damage occurring from climbing hydrangea, however. Colour Confusions: The colour of the pink and blue varieties is determined by the degree of soil acidity. Pink varieties develop colour best in the greenhouse at a soil pH of 6.5 to 7.0., while the best blue colour occurs at pH 5.0 to 5.5. The hydrangea flower is small and insignificant but is surrounded by showy bracts. The anthocyanin pigment will be pink or blue, depending upon the incorporation of either iron or aluminium in its molecules. Insufficient aluminium is absorbed by the plant at a pH of 6.5 to 7.0 so iron is used. As the pH drops to 5.0 to 5.5, aluminium

becomes more soluble, is absorbed by the plant and becomes part of the anthocyanin molecule resulting in blue coloration. White hydrangeas contain no pigment in their sepals (although some may develop as the blossom ages). They may be grown as either pink or blue, the only indication being given by the small petals. Common white varieties are Sister Therese and Regula. Rose Supreme, Merritt's Supreme and Merveille are examples of varieties which can be blue or pink depending on soil conditions. To maintain pink coloration, enough limestone should be incorporated in the soil at the time of planting to keep the pH at the above levels. The aluminium necessary for blue colour will become soluble in nearly any soil at a pH of 5.0 to 5.5. Depressing the pH with aluminium sulphate will also supply soluble aluminium. Since soluble phosphates precipitate aluminium, a fertilizer containing low phosphorous or none at all should be used (13-0-20 and 15-0-15 are examples). While these methods of changing the flower colour can be used, it's not a wise idea to do it indefinitely. You risk severely altering the soil pH thereby making it difficult for the plant to utilize nutrients. Always get the soil tested before altering it. If you really like different colours in your hydrangeas then get many different cultivars!

E

Readers Q&A

ach month we receive different questions from our readers, although some of these questions are related to specific situations, sometimes the answer may help you to better understand the tax system in Portugal and answer the queries from other readers.

Q

We probably have to move back to Switzerland at the end of this year. We will keep the house, the apartment, the boat and the car. Is that possible for a nonresident? There is no problem in having those assets in Portugal, while being a non-resident. Once you are ready to move, you need to change your address at the tax office. If the new address does not belong to the EU, then you are obliged to appoint a fiscal representative. The tax bills referring to the properties (IMI council tax) will be sent to the address registered at the tax office or to the address of your fiscal representative. Please note that the vehicle tax and boat tax are not issued automatically. You need to issue theses taxes each year at the tax office (currently closed due to Covid) or at the tax portal. To make it easier and assure that you don’t miss the payment deadline, we advise to appoint a fiscal representative who will take care of that on your behalf. Please note that if you decide to move during the year, you will still need to submit the IRS tax declaration for the months that you were resident (from 1st of January 2021 untill date of departure). The IRS will need to be submitted from 1st of April 2022 to 30th of June 2022.

Q

I am currently considering moving back to the UK. What are the consequences about the taxes we will pay in Portugal, what are the consequences if we want to sell our house when we are not resident, what are the other administrative consequences? If you decide to move back to the UK, you need to change your address at the tax office and appoint a fiscal representative. The fiscal representative can be an individual or a company resident in Portugal. In terms of capital gain taxes when selling your property, you will be liable for tax on the full gain at 28%. If you were to sell while you were resident and only change the address after the sale, you would normally pay a lot less tax. In fact the capital gain tax for residents, is only levied on half of the gain, at the progressive tax rates.

48

So even if you make a big gain and pay the maximum tax rate, as this is levied on half of the gain, it is less than 28%.

Q

I am a Portuguese resident and currently self-employed as I teach some yoga classes. I will start working for a real estate company next month as an independent consultant. Can I just open a second activity as self-employed? What is the limit for the IRS and social security payments? Would it be worth registering a company just for this activity? I suggest that you start as self-employed and then when things progress and you become more successful, you set up the company. The reason is that there are costs associated with the company set up, also the accountancy fees are higher and as a director of the company you are obliged to pay social security each month. You can add that activity code to your selfemployment register at the tax office and continue working as you have been doing with your yoga activity. As you may be aware, there’s a social security exemption but just for the first twelve months of activity. The social security payments are assessed each quarter based on the declaration you need to submit each quarter. Depending on your income, you may pay the minimum of 20€ per month or an average of up to 15% of your gross income for the quarter. In terms of VAT, please note that the threshold is very low, only 12.500€ per year and this is from the combined income of all selfemployment activities. Therefore, if you start earning commissions as a real estate and surpass this threshold then all your income, including the yoga classes, will start to charge VAT from February of following year. This is because you will only change your VAT status in January of next year, and not during the year when you surpass the 12.500€ threshold. Obviously, this means that you will need to start paying VAT on your sales, but will also start deducting VAT on your

purchases. It also means that you may need to employ an accountant to deal with your VAT declarations. Finally, in terms of IRS threshold, this is not an easy concept, but we will try to give you some examples depending on your income. For instance, for a single person, unmarried and with no children, if you invoice 6.000€ per year, your IRS liability can be as much as 625€. However as you have tax allowances you will pay no tax in most cases. If for instance you invoice 12.499€, in the same circumstances, your tax liability can be in the region of 1.500€. Again as you may have tax deductions, such as medical expenses and others, you can a lower amount of tax. For the tax deductions, it is essential that you ask for the relevant invoices with your fiscal number and register them at the tax portal, in the adequate sections, before February 15th of each year.

If you own a property and this is deemed as your main residency, you may apply for exemption on the IMI (Council Tax). Depending on your income and on the tax valuation of the property, you may have a 3-year exemption.

Q

We moved from the UK to Tavira in March. We have NHR, what are the tax benefits available if I own a property, as I am planning to purchase one within the next few months. If you own a property and this is deemed as your main residency, you may apply for exemption on the IMI (Council Tax). Depending on your income and on the tax valuation of the property, you may have a 3-year exemption. Besides this, the other exemption can be the capital gain taxes when you sell. However, this is only applicable in case the house you purchase is used only as your main residency and when you sell it, you will need reinvest the full proceedings of the sale, into another main residency, anywhere in the EU. Please feel free to send us the questions you may have to helpdesk@allfinance.pt. We will select some of these to be published.

Expert financial advice By Andy Oliver, CEO of Private Client Consultancy

A

Happy Anniversary!

s we head into the month of August, I decided that my article for this edition would be less about specific financial advice or indeed guidance on a particular aspect of finance, but rather as a way to thank all of our clients, both local, and throughout Europe. I would also like to use this opportunity to thank those same clients, both old and new, for the fantastic support you have shown me personally on this journey, and indeed as a company, in what has undoubtedly been a first anniversary year unlike any other for myself, Private Client Consultancy – and for all, the world over. It was as little as one year ago that Private Client Consultancy was no more than an idea. An idea devised by a handful of senior managers working within the financial services industry. And it was at this time that we agreed without doubt that what we ultimately wanted was to stand a cut above the rest in this industry.

So, after countless late nights, careful planning, and a clear understanding of what we wanted to achieve - we agreed that we couldn´t reach the heights we were ultimately striving for while shackled as we were at that time. So, without hesitation a decision was made, and on July 20th, 2020, Private Client Consultancy was born, and a simple mission statement of commitment made. And we stand by that statement today. “We believe in the importance of values and delivering what we believe In. The world is a different place now, and we understand that we too must deliver change in many ways, but values… more importantly core values, those should never change.” Of course, that decision meant that we needed to find office space. And the hectic search for our new premises began. After viewing several rather disappointing locations, not to mention a few dilapidated ones, we seized upon the opportunity to base our operation in the perfect location of Jardin Botanico in La

Looking back, none of this could have been achieved without the loyalty and support of our wonderful clients, old and new. BAD ADVICE...

Ask the

Expat

Not all advice is good and not all people are as genuine as you may think. Enjoy our 'bad advice' column from the expert we have all met, know and love... the Expat.

W

ho said there is no more romance in the world? No fish in the sea? No way back from a rocky road after an avalanche? This is why this month we are joined by our relationship and dating experts for ExPats in the Algarve. Terry and Terri of “Algarve Advanced Relationships, Dating, Crisis Management and Peoples’ Technologies” join us to discuss living, loving and laughing in the 21st century! We are pleased to meet you Terry and Terri! First of all, why did you set up your dating and relationship agency? Terry: Moving from Chigwell, Essex to the Algarve, our single friends would often say, “Terry and Terri”, “how do you do it”? Being so romantic, in love, wise and beautiful and buff in your fifties”! “If only we could be like you”... Terri: Yes, so we self-qualified ourselves as experts and thought after a stretch of motivational love talks, how we could help our feeble minded, lonely and unlucky in love friends”! Oh, wonderful! And the technologies description in your company description, what does that mean? Terri; “Oh darling! We are always on the lookout for new technologies to help relationships and the lonely. We find if people are in conflict in their relationships, a good behavioural technique is using shock collars with your partner, when you are mutually annoyed by each other. The shocking becomes so frequent that we induce a Stockholm Syndrome of fatigue and fear, so people learn not to shock each other and cower rather than argue. That is when true romance can begin when people are nearly ready to divorce! The collar cannot be removed unless by a surgeon. Terry: And for other customers, ones that fail our single nights and our dating agency and have a litany of failed relationships are are, well getting less attractive, advances in

52

AI and sex dolls can really help! Recently, during the Euro football tournaments, we had many rave reviews from male customers. We present them with our authentic Japanese sex dolls who are programmed to cheer to their partners team and reward them with a beer out of their advanced refrigerated torso and flatter them whatever the result! It is very advanced stuff! Wow, I like the sound of that! Sign me up! But I also read about your incredible single events. Why would you advise lonely ExPats to attend? Terri: Well we know it is hard for people to find a soul mate so perfect such as my Terry Teddy Bear, the rarest form of love. Terry: I love you babes…! Terri: You too squidgy bear! Well, our friend Captain Eddy has a boat, we literally call our love boat! Through our advanced interrogations and Cosmo quizzes, we match singles by whoever signs up and put them on our sensual, sensuous boat tour experience. Anyone who hasn’t copped off by the end of the night is thrown overboard! And we all cheer! Wow, that must be a challenge for some people! Terry: We do give them life jackets! Oh, er… OK and we hear you run other events that are more spiritual? Terri: Yes, our good friend Beanie Kundalini runs naked Yoga sessions, ending in a very liberal form of intoxicated ayahuasca ecstatic dancing that commences after the vomiting. We also do past life regression events, where we bring forward matches from the past life, be they were Marie Antoinette, Cleopatra or Hercules or maybe Braveheart in their past lives. We find people find love when they release the shackles and go back a few centuries under hypnosis to the clichés of who they were before! Like true soulmates who knew each over centuries back, every time! That sounds, well, beautiful.

Terry: Yes and for our introduction services, we use a Photoshop wizard and recommend plastic surgery to the ugliest of ducklings. We do say however, if there is a photo discrepancy from the photo, it is best to join our ‘dating in the dark’ evenings! Thereby the only image the date has in their mind is the one they show and we can mutually disappoint them both! Terri: Oh and Terri don’t forget to highlight our Gold-diggers Platinum service. We give our Platinum Members a full financial and health itinerary of their prospective ‘Millionaire’ date as well as legal support to avoid prenups. We find these younger clients, like older clients with complicated health issues and a preparedness to change their wills! That sounds very romantic! What if people want real love and the spark back in their relationship? Terri: We advise them to have things like naked Sushi nights eating off each others body. Though the pandemic has stopped that for a while, so as sex therapists, we Zoom them and advise them on all sorts of Kink and sex therapy. Terry: Yeah I really enjoy that bit! Terri: It is very edifying and it does please Terry’s inner voyeur! (Terry looks flushed and starts salivating). So how do people find you for this invaluable service? Terri: Well aside from the escort agency we run, our therapeutic services can be found on www.lovetechnology.orgasm because we have many happy clients who are happy they have fit us into the agendas of love and filled themselves with our overflowing advice! We always say “Terry and Terri square is the root of love” so take a shot!

Meet the member Meet Club captain of Tavira Golf, June Scott

L

ast month I met up with this years Captain of Tavira golf club June Scott to hear about her thoughts on the course and to find out a bit more about what it's been like being a club captain. June, thank you for coming along this morning, tell me, how long have you been a member here? Under various options about 16 years. Wow... that's a long time, you must know the course well! Well... you would like to think so! What was your home course? A small gem, a bit like this one, called Carnwath in south Lanarkshire, Scotland, it's a bit like this course in as much it's not a long course, but if you are out of position you pay for it. How many years have you been playing golf? About 18 years OK, so what's your current handicap? Currently 21.6 And your lowest handicap?

I got down to twenty, my aim is to get to 18. What's your favourite hole here at Benamor? I think it would probably be 14, I know it is difficult for the guys, but because of the position of the red tee's I can get there in two. And the one that you dread? Well, I go between 6 and 16, 16 is long for a par 4, and I am tired by the time I get to 16, especially in this weather. How does this course compare to others in the Algarve? Well as I have said, it is not the longest course but because of the positioning of the tree's, it is tight. I have played a lot of the courses and they are quite open, here you have just got to be fairly accurate. What advice would you give someone who hasn't played this course before? Stay straight... it does not matter if you are short, just stay straight. What do you think makes this course in particular, successful? I think it is the whole ambiance of the place,

the staff, you can not fault the staff, they are all so friendly and helpful. When we had our presentation day, I came in early with the polish for the trophies, but they had already cleaned them for us, it was a lovely touch, they are like a family. Have you been a captain anywhere else? Yes, I was Ladies captain at Carnwath, at the same time my husband was Gents captain, a first for the club. How has your captaincy been here? Well obviously last year was very, very difficult because of the Covid situation, we did not manage any fundraisers, so hopefully this year... we have had one already and we are hoping to get captain's day and Charity day to raise as much money for the charities, because that's the whole point of the captaincy, so fingers crossed we can go ahead with that. Thank you so much for your time June, it has been a pleasure meeting you, hopefully we will get a game together soon.

with printing techniques on various materials, such as different fine art papers, aluminium and glass. Their inspiration comes from their travels. Arnell says "All our travels in about 40 countries have inspired us very much. Especially the time we spent in Brazil, where we also have lived for longer periods. This has influenced our work". The equipment they use is a full frame, digital small format camera (Sony Alpha 7ii) with a premium 55mm (Carl Zeiss) lens. They have a gallery in the Swedish real estate Fastighetsbyrån in Tavira, in front of the river at rua Jacques Pessoa 26. Normally you can meet them there on Fridays and Saturdays, 19.00-22.00 (subject to restrictions). Arnell & Micael will have their annual "Autumn Salon" in Tavira, on Friday 10th of September at 19.00. Sport

Padel

A game for all ages! Jake Fox from Break Padel & Tenns Co. tell us all we need to know about Padel

P

adel is a racket sport which mixes physical activity with social interaction. It is a fun game for players of all ages and skill sets. It is easy to pick up and once you have picked up the basics you are set to enjoy exciting long rallies! Padel is a mix between tennis and squash, it is played in a doubles format on an enclosed court surrounded by walls of glass and metallic mash. The court is only a third of the size of a tennis court, so you won’t spend all your time picking up balls! The ball can bounce off any wall but can only hit the turf once before being returned. The point and scoring system is the same used in regular tennis. The rules allow for the use of the back and sidewalls, which results in longer rallies than in a conventional tennis match. You must be clever; strength is not an important factor in padel. Padel has enjoyed tremendous growth in Portugal over the last couple of years, there are now 244 registered padel clubs in the country, over twenty of which are in the Algarve! The Algarve has become a hot spot for padel and a number of prestigious international events have taken place in Vilamoura and Vale do Lobo. Now I am going to take you through what I believe are the five main benefits of playing padel!

58

It is for all ages and levels Padel is a sport which adapts to the characteristics of each player and can be thoroughly enjoyable for all players of any age or level. Due to the recent growth of the sport you will always find other players of the same level to book a game! The game is as simple or as complex as you want it to be! Padel is a sport which is easy to begin playing and where players quickly improve. Social benefits on mental health The social aspects of padel are extremely beneficial to your mental well-being. Time to schedule a match with three games where you meet, have fun while being physically active. It is extremely beneficial to meet up with friends and play sport. Overall Fitness Padel boosts your overall fitness. Long points get your heart pumping, burningly approximately between 400 and 700 calories during a game. Other key factors worked on in padel are agility, balance, and explosiveness. Improves coordination and reflexes Padel is based on coordination and quick reflexes, these qualities will vastly improve and quickly become visible in other areas of your life. Enjoy the company Padel is an extremely social sport which will always feature four friends, it is a platform which works as a getaway in good company.

Padel will make you laugh while staying fit and is a fantastic way to play sport and have fun with friends. BREAK PADEL & TENNIS CO. Break was born because three tennis players and coaches from Tavira got tired of the same old fashioned, standard, traditional tennis sportwear. After finding a recent passion for padel tennis, the boys came up with the idea to create a brand like none other which compliments both sports. To us, the court is our playground, we inspire creativity in every movement, stroke and shot. Break offers stand out, limited edition, ethically sourced racket sports inspired athleisure. The perfect hybrid between high performance and casual fashion. We strive for our customers to tear it up on the court and in the clubhouse! While other brands focus solely on the sporting action, break aims to make you feel confident in any social situation. Break recognises that padel is a platform consisting of two main factors; Physical activity and social interaction. Our mission is to promote a healthy lifestyle fuelled by mental and physical well-being. It is clear to us that both exercise and the social aspects of sport are vital to overall health. Take a break with your friends, while having fun and staying active! We cater for your action on the court and compulsory postmatch drink! We promote swinging hard, while having fun with your buddies. Swing hard, feel good, have fun. www.breakpadeltennis.com
