Charity Shops (or Thrift Stores in the USA) Charity shopping can be a great way to style yourself on a budget, not to mention exciting. Charity shops offer you the chance to grab a hidden bargain, you won’t believe what some people donate! They also allow to design a look based on variety of times, mixing old school tees and jumpers with more contemporary shoes or belts.

General Money Saving Tips - Food Co-Ops are a great way to buy a lot of healthy food at a very affordable price. Prices range from around £1.50 - £4 for a carrier bag of fruit or veg, with most offering them for around £2.50 - £3. The food you get is proven to be cheaper than if you bought the same in a supermarket!

To find a Co-Op near you, go to: http://goo.gl/vnmJNN - The Economy of Scale. Buying things in bulk is more expensive at the start but works to be much cheaper in the end. Things like toilet paper you can buy heaps of when there is a good deal and keep them in your linen closet.

- Shopping at Farmer's Markets or Splott Market you can get lots of meat and cheese etc. very cheap and just freeze it for later use.

Tips for getting cheap or free clothes - Hold a swap party where every week/fortnight/month you and your friends or just locals in your area get together and bring all your unwanted clothes, books, shoes etc. to swap with other people. If you don't have anything to give why not help by cooking a meal and bringing it to share. Fabulous way to get free and funky clothing, great way to meet friends and get a strong support network and an excuse to have a party!!

- Don't throw away old clothes, shoes, bags, belts etc. If you have clothes that are just too broken to mend don't throw them away still donate them in a separate bag to your local charity as they can then get money for sending them to be used as rags. These clothes if they are good quality will get sent for free to those who need it most. If they are poor quality they will get ripped up and used to stuff furniture etc.

- If you're low on food and in real need you can apply for Food Bank Vouchers three times in a year period. Go to the Speakeasy on 166 Richmond Road (opposite NatWest) to enquire. They will give you four huge bags of tinned food, baby things and treats.

- If you find something in a shop and it's just that little bit too small it is very easy to make it larger. Either just add an inch of fabric at the waist line or fully unzip it and sew in fabric in that V gap, this will give you a good couple of inches.

- Speakeasy 166 Richmond Road can help with debt issues, benefit issues and all sorts. Well worth popping in.

- You can get ANYTHING second hand. If not from a charity shop try Freecycle. or Gumtree.com Often these sites have things for free and the people are open to haggling. It's a cheap and easy alternative to Ebay and Amazon.

- Advice Hub by the city centre if you go into the CAU they can help you with all kinds of debt and money queries.

- Don't be afraid to shop in places like Home Bargains. You can still get the same quality brands much cheaper.

- Enter competitions in stores. You'll be surprised at what you can get for free by doing really simple tasks. For example on occasions by tweeting positively about certain products you may get free samples or coupons.
