THINK AND CREATE YOUR OWN HOBBIES

2021-2022 THIRD TERM

SCIENCE CLUB

NTRA. SRA. DE LA VICTORIA - SPAIN –

Hello friends! Here we are now with the new club: SCIENCE CLUB. This club will be developed next December when you all come to visit us to Spain But until then, I will show you what my students have been worked during this third term of the second year of our KA2 project THINK AND CREATE YOUR OWN HOBBIES.

Let us show you our main entrance mini garden. You saw it already last year when we were working on the Environment and Gardening club, but those plants needed to be replaced as they died. In that previous entrance garden we had aromatic, spicy and medicinal plants.

So that, these are our new plants: mint and the others we do not know their names, so sorry, our secretary Mariví took them from her garden.

During this new Science Club, we have worked on indoor and outdoor laboratories (Sciences, mathematics and physics), and because of this, students have carried out experiments related to water, light, forces and movement experiments in indoor and outdoor spaces.

In cultural week in April, our students started this new club, and in this line, first graders did a workshop with teacher Alicia, in which they draw trees using paint and finger-painting technique.

Also, during our Cultural week, all groups of our school carried out a workshop in which different types of flowers were planted recycling old tires, previously painted This workshop was led by our headteacher Cristina. The main aim of this activity is that all of our students take care of them.

Also, first graders, with teacher Olimpia, are working on a project about the growing of the avocado. Students put the seeds in the cup with water using wooden sticks, and experimentally, they will get their own conclusions.

These students, with teacher Lucía, are also working on the plants and their parts in a global way, not only in Sciences, but also in Arts, Maths and Spanish language, as the avocado project is lead by Olimpia, the Spanish teacher. Here we have an example:

Our second grade students, with teacher Candelas have presented different experiments about inventions, machines and materials. Here you can see some interesting examples that students have presented to their mates: the floating of a ship, how pulleys work, the telescope, the microscope, simple machines such as hammers, levers and wheels; complex machines like cars and trains.

Also, these students made different experiments about the plants’ necessities to grow: sunlight, soil, air and water.

Third graders, with teacher Maricarmen prepared different experiences about conductivity and the states of matter. Students got their own conclusions about their practice.

Fourth graders, with teacher Miguel, worked on an experimental workshop about different types of levers.

Fifth graders with teacher Lidia, in Science lessons, have done different experiments to observe the changes of volume in matter, how and when it is reduced or expanded depending on the temperature to which this is exposed.

With this English activity, fifth grader students looked for information about uncommon animals and they prepared a worksheet for each of them. They used tablets to look for data such as scientific name, habitat, food, size, weight and other curiosities.

Here we can see some examples of the Natural Science proyects that fifth graders prepared about electrical circuits.

Sixth graders with teacher Almudena are learning about matter in Science lessons too. They carried out different experiments related to state and type of matter. The work on differentiating pure substances and mixtures as well the methods to separate homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures.

In order to deep in the Scientific land, different groups of students did an excursion to the Science Museum of Castilla-La Mancha, in Cuenca, in this sense, fourth and fifth graders enjoyed the visit doing different experiments there

Here you can see a video about their visit in the Science Museum and some of the experiments they did in the classroom.

Dear friends, this is all up to now, I hope we all learned from all our activities. This was a super experience for my students and I hope it was for yours too. We cannot wait to continue with our mobilities and we are waiting for you next December!
