PRAYER TO THE GUARDIAN ANGEL O my dear guardian Angel, protect me from all dangers. Help me, so that I may remain a beloved child of my Jesus. Safeguard me from all dangers and bad dreams in this night.

PRAYER TO ST. MICHAEL, THE ARCH ANGEL St. Michael the Arch Angel, be our guide and our guard during the time of our spiritual warfare. Protect us from the evil designs of Satan, our enemy. We humbly pray that God rebuke him. O chief of the heavenly army, expel all the wicked spiritual forces that roam the earth with the intention of destroying souls. Drive them to the fires of hell by the power of God.

My Jesus, am I not Yours? "Oh, my little Jesus, will you give me that ball? Then, I will give you my shoes", said little Nellie innocently looking at the statue of Infant Jesus. Everyone was astonished by this friendly relationship she had with Infant Jesus. Little Nellie was born in a small village in Ireland. Though she was named 4

"Ellen" she was known lovingly as "Nellie". In her earlier years, her mother used to tell her about Jesus and Mother Mary. Her mother taught her to kiss the beads of the rosary each time she recited 'Hail Mary'. The sudden death of her beloved mother, the poverty at home and her illness brought her to a children's home run by Sisters. She

was only three and half years at that time. Whenever the sisters of the home narrated the passion of Christ to Little Nellie, she used to cry out "My Poor Holy God". At this time she was badly affected with tuberculosis and severe back pain. One day, the Mother of the home asked "My dear, you have severe pain". She answered, "It's okay, Mother. My Jesus had suffered so much for me. Poor Jesus!" Mother was astonished at her reply. In the beginning, when the pain was unbearable, she used to cry out aloud with tears streaming down her cheeks.

after receiving the Communion and she also expected a kiss in return. She used to say that it is Jesus who is kissing her. When somebody who did not attend the Holy Mass due to laziness came to her, she would say", Oh! You didn't receive the Holy God today? Poor Jesus! He must have waited for you and become sad!" Her friendship with Jesus was unexplainable. She used to take the little statue of

Infant Jesus and play whistle. She would scream "Look Jesus is dancing". She was very much attached to Jesus. She loved to be alone and if someone asked whether she gets bored she would reply "I am not alone. I am talking with Jesus". Because of her ardent desire, the Bishop permitted her to make her First Holy Communion at the age of four and a half. "Oh! The Holy God will come into my heart", she constantly repeated this aspiration throughout the day. Her joy was endless. We are left wondering, how such thoughts and words of wisdom can come forth from a little child? She reminds us how seriously we ought to look at the heavenly matters. She was taken to her heavenly abode soon. Many started seeking Nellie's intercession. When her coffin was opened one 6

and a half years later, the body was found incorrupt, except for a small cavity in the right jaw. The blue ribbon and the silver medal of Mother Mary were found unsullied as if it had been recently polished. Shall we also ask the intercession of Little Nellie? She will help us to be good friends with Jesus. Let this prayer be in our hearts after we receive the communion," Jesus, I am Yours, I love you!".

Mission Experience Seno Jose

A Vacation with Jesus My brother Ian and I study in Naipunya School, Thrikkakara, Kochi. I am in class II and Ian in UKG. We spent this vacation with tribals in Nagaland. Do you know where Nagaland is? It is in the north east part of our country, with beautiful hills and mountains. After 4 days of train journey from our home town, we reached Dimapur. The truck journey from there was very interesting. The place was fully surrounded by mountains. We travelled 10

JUNE 2014

from one mountain to the other. Sometimes there were road blocks due to landslides. After travelling for 18 hours by truck we reached a place called Shamatar. People living there belong to different tribes and they

live in mountains. After having food in the morning, they go for farming and return back by late evening. They have their second meal after this. Our parents have instructed us not to cause any inconvenience to those people and to help them in their work. Hence we helped them in farming and removing blocks from the road. Like them, we too ate only two meals a day. They use leaves, worms, snails, dogs etc for food. In the place where we lived they mainly eat steamed leaves and beans. We started eating food which we do not like. They get water once in four days only. They take

bath and wash clothes on those days. Water is ice cold. Our mother used to scold us for wasting water while taking bath at home. After living there, we do not waste water now. They had big families with 10-12 children. Parents are not able to provide food and clothing for all their children. There are very few schools and no play areas for children to play. Fr. Francis, priest in the nearby church, had made a shed near the school there. 12 children from LKG to class VI stay there and study. One JUNE 2014

girl in class VI cooks food and take care of all the other children. I celebrated my 7th birthday with them. We had chapattis, potato curry and boiled eggs on that day. That was the happiest birthday I ever had in my life. We gave the children our toys and dresses. Initially, Ian was reluctant to give his favourite pants to them. Later he himself gave it. We stayed in a school there. Daily they start their classes after celebrating Holy Mass. We started adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for 3 hours daily. My father, mother, me and Ian sat in front of Jesus singing, reading the word of God, reciting rosary and divine mercy chaplet for the people in that place. This was a new

experience for me. During breaks, the school children also came for adoration. We got many friends there. Together we played, prayed and worked. We changed a lot during this journey. Now, we do not waste water but use it with care.We started having food without complaining and wasting. We could also stop the practise of having snacks in between. We learned to share our toys, dresses and chocolate with others.More than anything, we love to spend time in prayer. Angels protected us during our journey. Jesus helped us to endure the cold weather and get used to the food.

YOUCAT 146 CCC 946-962 What does the “communion of saints” mean? The “communion of saints” is made up of all men who have placed their hope in Christ and belong to him through Baptism, whether they have already died or are still alive. Because in Christ we are one Body; we live in a communion that encompasses heaven and earth. [946-962]

Nana, why do we often pray to saints? Son, why do you seek your sister's help to learn Math? Oh! That's because my sister is thorough with my maths. She wants me also to get cent percent marks in Math like her; and so teaches me all the valuable tips. Son, haven't you learnt that all who receive baptism becomes God's children. Thus all the members of the Church are brothers and sisters. The saints are our big sisters and brothers who had passed the exam to reach heaven. Won't they have a deep desire that we also should reach heaven? They will help us for that. Isn't it nana? Yes indeed! Not only them, but all the holy souls who passed away from our family can also help us. Oh! that means all the members of the Church living or dead can help each other. Am I correct Nana? Absolutely dear. Whatever we do for Jesus will surely benefit others. When we pray for the souls in the purgatory we help them to reach the final destinationHeaven.

BIBLE STUDY Let's read the passage in silence

In that case won't papa and mama go to heaven?

18

JUNE 2014

little ones have you forgotten about our bible study with school reopening?

No papa, here we are all set

"Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."

Only the little children can enter the kingdom of heaven!

Ah... good question. Joel dear, as the word says, only little children will be able to enter God's kingdom, By little children the Word of God means to say that all who have a child-like attitude

What does that mean?

Danny, I too haven't understood it fully

Sweethearts, look at our little John, he cries out for his parents for all his needs. He seeks their help because he knows that he's helpless. Isn't it?

Like that, those who have a child-like attitude will depend on God for everything and trust in Him. They know that they cannot do anything without God Oh,that means we should hold God's hand for everything. Yes, Therese.Only such people will be able to enter God's kingdom. Because they hold His hand they will be able to do things which was thought as impossible otherwise.

Yes my angel. The child natured realizes that they are not able to do things on their own. They become aware of their helplessness and totally depend on God. Let's pray. Lord Jesus, please give us the grace to depend on You for everything. In reality they are truly the strong ones. Am I correct?
