comment ΜΕΤΑ Διανύουµε τις πρώτες µέρες µιας νέας Μετά-εποχής. Ακολουθώντας κάθε µεγάλη µεταβατική περίοδο, στην οποία σφυρηλατούνται µε αργό, σχεδόν βασανιστικό τρόπο τα θεµέλια της αλλαγής παραδείγµατος που επίκειται, το πρόθεµα “µετά-” αναδύεται εµφατικά στη δηµόσια συζήτηση για να ξεχωρίσει τα πράγµατα του παρελθόντος από αυτά που θα ακολουθήσουν. Το επιτυγχάνει εκτελώντας µια χειρουργική τοµή ανάµεσα στο παρελθόν και το παρόν. Ακριβή και οριστική. Αδιαµφισβήτητη και µη αναστρέψιµη. Εστιάζοντας στην αρχιτεκτονική κάθε Μετά-εποχή αφήνει το µόνιµο σηµάδι της, τόσο στο design - που ορίζεται ως η τακτική για την αντιµετώπιση µιας προγραµµατικής πρόκλησης - όσο και στον τοµέα του styling, το οποίο έχει κυρίως να κάνει µε το χειρισµό του κτιριακού κελύφους ως φορέα µηνύµατος. Με την έλευση µιας Μετά-εποχής, η τρέχουσα σχέση ανάµεσα στο design και το styling ανατρέπεται, δηµιουργώντας µια αναταραχή στους χώρους της αρχιτεκτονικής διανόησης, όπου νέες ιδέες δοκιµάζονται ανελέητα. Σε αυτή τη δεύτερη δεκαετία του 21ου αιώνα είναι δύσκολο να διακρίνει κανείς αν η πρωτοκαθεδρία ανήκει στο design ή το styling, καθώς η µεταξύ τους σχέση ήταν ήδη αµφίσηµη πριν την εµφάνιση της νέας Μετά-εποχής. Ωστόσο, επιβάλλεται η προσαρµογή σε ένα νέο οικονοµικό υπόβαθρο, το οποίο απαιτεί µια περισσότερο ισορροπηµένη, χαµηλότερων τόνων και περιβαλλοντικά συνειδητοποιηµένη προσέγγιση του κτισµένου περιβάλλοντος. Την ίδια στιγµή βρισκόµαστε στο χείλος µιας τεχνολογικής έκρηξης, όπου οι συνέργειες ανάµεσα στις νέες τεχνολογίες της επικοινωνίας, στη διαχείριση της πληροφορίας και στη στροφή προς τις ανανεώσιµες πηγές ενέργειας θα οδηγήσουν σε ένα νέο τρόπο µη γραµµικής σκέψης, η οποία δεν θα αφήσει ανεπηρέαστη την αρχιτεκτονική. Αντίθετα, θα την επαναπροσδιορίσει ριζικά. Με αυτή την οπτική οι κατοικίες που περιλαµβάνονται στην έκδοση Villas 2014 θα πρέπει να θεωρηθούν σαν µια επιλογή από χαρακτηριστικά παραδείγµατα αυτού που η αρχιτεκτονική ήταν πριν το ξέσπασµα της νέας Μετά-εποχής. Πραγµατοποιούν ένα βήµα στο κενό, καθώς σχεδιάστηκαν πριν την εποχή της κρίσης και - κάποιες από αυτές - τελικά υλοποιήθηκαν σε ένα εντελώς διαφορετικό περιβάλλον. Ωστόσο, καταφέρνουν να µην είναι εκτός θέµατος. Κάθε µια µε το δικό της τρόπο, οι κατοικίες αυτές έχουν εµφυτευτεί µε το σπόρο µιας νέας θεώρησης της αρχιτεκτονικής, ετοιµάζοντας το πεδίο για ένα νέο, θριαµβευτικό ορισµό της. Σχεδόν 100 χρόνια πριν, ο Le Corbusier στην αναζήτησή του “Προς µίαν Αρχιτεκτονική” όρισε τις κατοικίες ως “µηχανές για να ζεις µέσα σε αυτές”. Από τότε η αρχιτεκτονική προσπαθεί ασθµαίνοντας να προσεγγίσει αυτό το πρότυπο. Εισερχόµενη σε αυτή τη νέα Μετά-εποχή αποµένει ένα µικρό βήµα πριν τελικά να το επιτύχει. Po s t We are living the early days of a new “post“ era. Following every major transitional period, in which the foundations of an imminent paradigm shift are slowly (almost painfully) forged, the prefix “post-“ emerges emphatically in the public discourse to distinguish things that were from those that will follow. It achieves that by performing an almost surgical incision between the past and present. Precise and definitive. Undisputable and irreversible. Focusing on architecture, every “post“ era leaves a permanent mark on both architectural design - defined as the tactics used to tackle a programmatic challenge - and architectural styling, which primarily has to do with handling the building’s shell as a container of meaning. When a “post“ era emerges, the current bias toward design or styling is reversed, creating an intellectual turmoil in which new ideas are relentlessly tested. In this second decade of the 21st century, it’s hard to tell whether architecture has become more design-led or styling-led, since their relationship was already ambiguous before the new era arrived. However, we must adapt to a new economic background, which requires a more balanced, low-profile and earth-conscious approach to the built environment. At the same time, we are on the brink of a technological outbreak: the synergies between new communication technologies, big data management and the shift to renewable energy will lead to a new way of lateral thinking that will fundamentally redefine architecture. In this context, the residences included in the Villas 2014 edition are a selection of typical examples of what architecture used to be just before the new era. T hey represent a step into the void, since they were conceived pre-crisis; some of them materialised in a totally different context. However, they manage not to be irrelevant. Each residence is implanted with the seeds of a new perspective on the field, preparing the path for a new, triumphant definition of architecture that is about to enter the scene. Almost 100 years ago, Le Corbusier, in his quest “Towards a New Architecture“, introduced houses as “machines for living in“. S ince then, architecture has struggled to reach that standard. Το γραφείο Pitsou Kedem Architects ιδρύθηκε το 2002 από τον Pitsou Kedem. Αποτελείται από µία οµάδα εννέα νέων, δυναµικών και ταλαντούχων αρχιτεκτόνων. Στα 12 αυτά χρόνια έχουν αναπτύξει ένα µινιµαλιστικό στυλ µε βάση τις αρχές του µοντερνισµού, εκφράζοντας µια αρχιτεκτονική που σχετίζεται µε το περιβάλλον και το χρήστη, ενώ παραµένουν σε συνεχή αναζήτηση για ξεχωριστά υλικά και πρωτότυπες λύσεις. Δουλεύουν συγχρόνως 60 - 70 projects, τα περισσότερα από τα οποία είναι κατοικίες, ενώ πρόσφατα ξεκίνησαν να δραστηριοποιούνται και σε εµπορικά έργα όπως εστιατόρια, showrooms και ξενοδοχεία.
The Pitsou Kedem Architects studio was founded in 2002 by Pitsou Kedem, and has evolved into a strong team of nine young architects. In 12 years, they have developed a minimalist style based on modernist principles, expressing an architecture that relates to the environment and the user, while always in a search of unique materials and unconventional solutions. The studio works on an average of 60-70 projects - mostly residential - at a time, and has recently been involved in commercial projects such as restaurants, showrooms and hotels.

Ο Μιχάλης Αναστασιάδης είναι γνωστός για τα κοµψά φωτιστικά του, που ακολουθούν µια πολύ καθαρή, αλλά και ιδιαίτερη αισθητική. Στις δηµιουργίες του περιλαµβάνονται, µεταξύ άλλων, ένα φλιτζάνι που του ”µιλάς“, ένα φωτιστικό που σβήνει όταν µιλάς, καθρέφτες που µοιάζουν να λιώνουν στο έδαφος και ένα κρυστάλλινο φωτιστικό, το φως του οποίου διαχέεται στον τοίχο θυµίζοντας την ίριδα του µατιού. Τα έργα του παραπέµπουν σε ποιητικές αναφορές ενσωµατωµένες σε σενάρια γεµάτα χιούµορ και πρακτικότητα. Έχει πτυχίο µηχανικού από το Imperial College του Λονδίνου και µεταπτυχιακό στο βιοµηχανικό σχέδιο από το Royal College of Art. Ζει και εργάζεται στο Λονδίνο. Το 1994 ξεκίνησε το δικό του studio, ενώ το 2007 τη δική του εταιρία, δουλεύοντας σε projects τόσο περιορισµένης παραγωγής όσο και µαζικής. Έχει συνεργαστεί µε εταιρίες παγκοσµίου φήµης, ενώ η δουλειά του έχει εκτεθεί σε περισσότερες από 10 χώρες σε όλο τον κόσµο.
A n a s t a s s i a d e s
Michael Anastassiades is known for creating elegant light fixtures that follow a very pure but purposeful aesthetic. His long portfolio of creations includes a cup you can talk to, a light you can’t talk under, mirrors that seem to start melting into the ground and a crystal light that projects the pattern of the iris of an eye onto the wall. His works are poetic references embedded in scenarios full of humour, practical efficiency or both. He has an engineering degree from the Imperial College in London and a Masters in Industrial Design from the Royal College of Art. He lives and works in London, where he established his design studio in 1994. In 2007 he launched his production company, where he works on both limited and unlimited pieces. He has collaborated successfully with highly established firms from all over the world and his work has been exhibited in more than ten countries.

Η µελέτη αφορά µία διώροφη κατοικία µε πισίνα και υπόγειο υποστηρικτικό χώρο, στο Λαγονήσι. H αρχιτεκτονική σύνθεση του συνόλου της µελέτης επιχείρησε να ορίσει µία αισθητική µε βιοκλιµατικούς όρους, µέσω µιας δυναµικής γεωµετρίας. Το επίπεδο του ισογείου µε το living room και τους κοινόχρηστους χώρους “αγκαλιάζει” τη λίµνη - πισίνα. Παράλληλα, τα µεγάλα ανοίγµατα του επιπέδου αυτού διαµορφώνουν µια αµεσότητα µε το νερό και µία αίσθηση φυσικού δροσισµού.
The project involves a two-storey house with a swimming pool and an auxiliary basement space in L agonissi. The architectural study attempted to define an aesthetic with bioclimatic conditions through a dynamic geometry.
Τhe ground-floor areas, which include the living room and public spaces, surround a swimming pool. L arge openings form an immediacy with the water and provide a sense of natural cooling.

Η κατοικία είναι κτισµένη σε πευκόφυτο οικόπεδο µε έντονη κλίση στο Διόνυσο. Η πρόσβαση στο επικλινές οικόπεδο γίνεται από το χαµηλότερο σηµείο του. Έτσι, το κτίριο τοποθετήθηκε στο ψηλότερο σηµείο του οικοπέδου ώστε να αξιοποιείται η θέα και για να αποκοπεί, όσο το δυνατόν περισσότερο, από το επίπεδο του δρόµου. The residence is built on a steep slope in a pine-wooded area in Dionysos, a northern suburb of Athens. The property is accessed at the lowest point of the plot. The building was placed on the highest point in order to exploit the view and isolate it as much as possible from the street.
