14th Annual Walk to End Domestic Violence By Cinthia Rodriguez El Observador

he City of San Jose is working together with different organizations to end domestic violence one step at a time. They all walked through and around San Jose State University to help raise awareness about the issue of domestic violence. “We all know that domestic violence is a very difficult problem to address. This problem is a dynamic and complicated one and there really is no one size fits all solution,” said City Manager Debra Figone. The city council encouraged the community to get involved in addressing and preventing domestic violence. The event also showcased the local resources that are available within the community. “I’m here to tell you there are so many people out there that are willing to help you, they are willing to love you and support you no matter what you’ve been through, no matter how long you’ve been through it,” said Connie, domestic vi-

olence survivor. Connie has struggled the majority of her life. As a child, she remembers her father physically abusing her. She also married an abusive man. Her husband physically and emotionally abused her and she finally divorced him only to marry another man like before. She attempted suicide. At her deathbed she realized she wanted to live and nothing would stand in her way including all the abuse she had lived with for 50 years.

“A lot of abused women don’t even realize, much like myself, what abuse is. They don’t understand because they are so emotionally numb and caught in the cycle of abuse,” said Connie. “So I urge you to reach out with compassion and with your heart and your minds and your action to save a life.” Now at age 56, Connie doesn’t give anything of herself up. She refers to many events as a privilege and is glad to be free for 6 years. She is thankful to all the doctors, friends, and family that helped her get through everything. “This little gathering and the march and the things we do around this, is our way of saying to our community that we do not tolerate domestic violence. That is below the standard in our community and there’s no

excuse, no justification, no reason for domestic violence in our community,” said Mayor Chuck Reed. “I think we can all be proud of the progress that we’ve made in our community by taking this stand and working on the issue.” Hundreds of people, including domestic violence survivors, held signs and marched along with city councilmembers and assemblymen and women. “All too often people sit by and stand silent. Today we are telling you, you cannot sit by and stand silent. We are asking you to speak up,” said Councilmember Pete Constant. The Past, Present, and Future with Edward Oates By Cinthia Rodriguez – El Observador

n October 17, over 100 students and community members eagerly waited for a San Jose State University (SJSU) alumnus to give a speech about the past, present, and future. That alumnus was Edward Oates, Co-founder of Oracle Corporation. Oates was born in Los Angeles and raised in Campbell. He is retired and is on the San Francisco Zoo board of directors and SJSU Tower Foundation board. He is also a musician. In 1975, he met future co-founders of Oracle while working at Ampex, they were all software engineers that disliked their compensation model. They thought tech wizards, as he calls them, were not being paid what they deserved. They also noticed that seniority was more important than skill. So they focused on database management and searched for contracts. The start up company began with $2,000. They were lucky enough to have IBM promoting their database management system. They soon established hardware and operating systems. Oracle was the name of a CIA project that the founders had worked on while at Ampex. They were given permission to use it and the rest is history.

The corporation was branded as a full service company. They quickly created Oracle consulting. By 1981, Oracle Europe was up and running and in 1983 so was Oracle Japan. Half of the sales are from outside of the US. Oates defined a major key to success was focusing on what they knew. They also shared the same business philosophy, planned for the tech future and expanded markets. They did “just in time” hiring and “just in time” expenses. Plus they each had a specific role. He remembers when start up models were able to get away with a drawing on a napkin, have some mugs with their logo and a bizarre name, but most of them were a bust. Funding sources used to include founders themselves and ‘angels’, people who believed on the idea and supported it by personally investing their money. Oates wrapped up his speech with the current challenges of today. One huge challenge is the lack of funding. Venture funds want business plans, expect to cash out, and, demand managerial oversight. Other challenges include work flowing to least costly locations wherever the internet allows information to flow. Angels are much more rare. Oates strongly recommends that start-ups have IP (intellectual property) legal counsels.

ugo Chávez odia Wall Street, la zona cero del “capitalismo salvaje”. Él soñará a diario con mercados bajistas que derrumben la economía de Estados Unidos. Sin duda alguna, le gusta el movimiento “Ocupar Wall Street”. Es que está hecho a medida para promover la “democracia participativa” al estilo de Chávez. No es de extrañar que haya enviado a su propagandista estrella a Nueva York. Eva Golinger es descrita como “abogada venezolano-americana y editora de la edición en inglés del periódico estatal Correo del Orinoco” (es decir, un brazo del régimen de Chávez). Apologista bien financiada por Chávez, al parecer Golinger se ha unido al movimiento de protesta anti-Wall Street, informando alegremente a Venezuela noticias sobre el creciente desorden, la inminente lucha de clases y el hundimiento del capitalismo en Estados Unidos. Golinger también es conocida por revelar nefastas iniciativas americanas para desestabilizar a Venezuela por el apoyo a grupos democráticos en peligro. Según la web The Commentator: [Golinger] está en los medios televisivos de Venezuela varias veces por semana dando los nombres de ciudadanos venezolanos que se han atrevido a defender los derechos humanos o la democracia en su país. Sus principales chivos expiatorios, al parecer, son la National Endowment for Democracy y la Agencia de los Estados Unidos para el Desarrollo Internacional (USAID), dos organizaciones del gobierno de Estados Unidos que brindan apoyo a la sociedad civil en el seguimiento del colapso democrático de Venezuela, un colapso en el que Golinger, por

supuesto, participa activamente. La presencia de Golinger en Nueva York no es ilegal, aunque como empleada del Gobierno de Venezuela, podrían surgir detalles técnicos en relación con la Ley de Registro de Agentes Extranjeros. Su presencia en suelo americano, no obstante, es un recordatorio de las constantes y bien financiadas iniciativas por parte de Chávez y compañía para agitar la marea “anticapitalista” en el extranjero, mientras que aisla a la oposición doméstica y democrática en Venezuela tras los muros de la censura, la ley, mentiras y difamación. hat small group of individuals who began ‘Occupy Wall Street’ has expanded to a multitude across the nation. Local cities such as San Jose, San Francisco and Oakland are experiencing similar efforts. Finally, the silent majority, made up of diverse individuals from all walks of life, have had enough. The ‘level competitive playing field’ does not exist for most. We have experienced no increase in the purchasing power of our wages since the1980’s/ Rather a reduction of income had happened. It now seems evident to all that the ‘military-industrial empire, the special interests lobbyists, and a corporate focus on ‘profits’ have all produced gridlock at the governance decision-making levels. Basic to all these happenings is the lack of application of core values of honesty, accoountability, and transparency. The transition from a domestic economy to a global economy has been used to focus only on profits. A former core value was keeping the local American worker employed and paid wages to enable the American consumer economy which made America the society and economy that was the envy of he world. Skilled immigrant’s major destination is to ‘come to America’ where they can strive creatively to develop innovations which benefit all. Today, skilled labor is a commodity which can be reached using information technology. This has enabled many manufacturing operations to be relocated to locations where skilled labor is available at lower costs. There are two outcomes: 1) certain manufacturing capability has been relocated and no longer exists in America and 2) local skilled labor has become unemployed. The outcome is that America’s middle class has been severely impacted by high levels of unemployment. Too many individuals and civic groups have suffered enough. Cash reserves have been depleted and sources of public assistance are no longer dependable because low tax revenues have diminished the ability of local government agencies to mitigate matters because of their own tax revenue shortfalls. Now, organizations and local governments are joining the ‘Occupy Wall Street’ movement by divesting their assets. Simply stated, nonprofits such as PACT, the City of San Jose, and many faith organizations, are closing their bank accounts at the Bank of America and Wells Fargo Bank in support. The community is finally trying to hold big banks accountable and responsible.

San Jose churches, organizations, and residents are divesting millions of dollars from big banks due to their unethical policies and practices. The Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church is moving its accounts out of Bank of America. In keeping with its social responsibility investment policy, the City of San Jose has moved money out of Bank of America. People Acting in Community Together (PACT) is moving its money out of Wells Fargo Bank. In San Jose’s ZIP code 95122 (East San Jose/Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church) 3,535 foreclosures have already happened. An estimated 43,000 home foreclosures are expected by 2012. All this in addition to this Hispanic community’s high unemployment levels estimated at 18%. PACT faith and grassroots community leaders launched this bank accountability and divestment campaign nearly two years ago. From its start in San Jose this campaign has grown. Today it is a coalition of 4 national networks, 30+ local and regional organizations representing millions of people in 15+ states. The Big Banks have failed to respond in good faith. Our financial institutions must be held accountable and responsible. Its interest rates and credit card fees must be reasonable. These institutions must serve the people in a manner that creates and serves the greatest good. The U.S. Congress must begin to legislate in a manner that balances profit orientation of capitalistic minded financial leaders to a new equilibrium which favors the greater good. The policies of the past 40 years have slowly decreased the ability of the middle class to absorb further income reductions. Those who are living from paycheck to paycheck are the ones unable to make financial adjustments simply because their employment income has been curtailed or stopped. What will rectify matters as they now stand? Financial institutions need to serve all with honesty, integrity and full transparency. If oversight regulations are required to monitor how banks do business, so be it. Those who devised those ‘derivatives’ inserted dishonesty along with distrust. Many are now cynical and not confident that Big Banks and other large financial institutions are dealing with the rest of us in good faith. Therefore ‘Occupy Wall Street’ is a very good happening which expresses the deep frustration that exists in this nation.Δ

Ten Things to Know About Alabamaʼs New Immigration Law

n September 28th, 2011, the most sweeping anti-immigration law in the country went into effect in Alabama. The law, HB 56, has already had harsh and sweeping consequences—hurting not only undocumented immigrants but legal residents, native-born U.S. citizens, and the state’s reputation on the national stage. HB 56 has created a climate of hostility for Hispanics and immigrants that has caused many of them to flee the state or lock themselves in their houses, while devastating Alabama’s agriculture and construction industries and creating massive bureaucratic hassles for citizens who are just trying to get their vehicle tags renewed. While the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals ordered Alabama to stop enforcing two provisions of the law on October 14th, the damage they caused may be irreversible—and the rest of the law remains in effect. What’s truly shocking, though, is that not only have the law’s defenders failed to express concern about its consequences on Alabama families, but they’re proud of them—and say the law is working as intended.

Occupiers Hold Big Banks Accountable

n October 19, dozens of local occupiers marched to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) building in downtown San Jose in solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street action in New York City. Occupy Wall Street is a people-powered movement that began on September 17, 2011 in Liberty Square in Manhattan’s Financial District, and has spread to over 100 cities in the United States and now includes supportive actions in over 1,500 cities globally. Inspired by the Egyptian Tahrir Square uprising and the Spanish acampadas, they vow to end the very wealthy corruption of their democracy. Men and women of all races, backgrounds, political and religious beliefs, began to organize in very visible nonviolent protest. These men and women represent the 99%, with the goal of ending the greed and corruption of the wealthiest 1% of America. More and more people have joined these protests. “The fundamental reason is that being part of that 99% of the people who are getting hit, people who are unemployed, whose jobs are being outsourced, the fact that government employees are losing pensions when we have the 1%, people who are making the big money, corporations are not paying any taxes,” said Javier Perez, retired City of San Jose employee. “They get bailed out by us. They turn around (i.e., not go bankrupt). And they are not being benevolent about foreclosures. They are not making money (loans) available. People can’t even get loans so they’re sitting on a pile of all that money and they are not helping the citizens.” San Jose churches, organizations and residents are divesting millions of dollars from big banks due

to their unethical policies and practices. Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church moved all of its accounts out of Bank of America. PACT is separating from Wells Fargo. Community members are moving their money to follow their values, closing their accounts with big, national banks that caused the economic crisis and have taken no responsibility or action to be part of the resolution. “We hope to get the attention of the 99% and the attention of the 1% so that there can be transparency with everything that is happening so everyone can become aware. Then they can make decisions based on that,” said Laura Allen, Occupy San Jose. On November 5th, citizens from all over the world are closing their bank accounts and transferring their money to a local credit union, to cripple the international banking cartels. Together they want to ensure that corrupt banking institutions will always remember the 5th of November. “Instead of investing its newfound wealth in productive enterprises in the United States, the top 1% moved it offshore or into financial speculation, which ultimately crippled the economy. The 1% also took large amounts of this money and poured it into a public relations effort to blame teachers and other public servants for the economic problems the 1% created,” stated the California Federation of Teachers. National banks have failed to respond to calls for action and good faith attempts like the ones by People Acting in Community Together (PACT) to negotiate for homeowners and the rest of the community. Los republicanos por su parte El presidente Obama por su parte le propuso al congreso un plan para tratar de negociar con este dilema y seguir adelante con su plan de trabajos el cual cobraría a los multimillonarios mas impuestos y a las personas

dueñas de negocios que contraten a una persona que tenga mas de seis meses sin trabajar. Ayudarles con bajar los Impuestos para que paguen menos y ayudarlas también con un estimulo. Pero los Republicanos por su parte le han puesto demasiados peros. Ya que aunque el presidente Obama dijo que su propuesta la pondría en partes para que sea mas fácil pasarla. Ellos por su parte pasaron esa ley de trabajo ya que para ellos suena mas como un paquete de estimulo. Y ellos ya están cansados de esa película la cual no ayuda a nadie la ultima vez. Cabe destarar que los hechos llevados a cabo el pasado fin de semana en donde policías atacaron a personas en la ciudad de New York. Por la cual las persona de #OCW (Twitter hashtag) dijeron que los policías empezaron agrediendo su marcha pacifica y que ellos no pusieron resistencia y nunca contestaron con golpes a los policías.

he Santa Clara County Library District has expanded its electronic book collection with its most recent addition of Kindle eBooks. With just the click of a button, members of the Santa Clara County Library District can now borrow from the library website ebooks that are compatible with a wide variety of electronic devices. “We are very pleased with the Library District efforts to provide services that are in sync with the needs and preferences of our diverse library users,” said County of Santa Clara Supervisor Mike Wasserman, Delegate of the Santa Clara County Library District Joint Powers Authority. “I am sure many library members appreciate the benefit of downloading eBooks and other resources without having to leave home.” The addition of Kindle eBooks to the Santa Clara County Library District started last September, when Overdrive and Amazon launched Kindle compatibility to approximately 11,000 United States public and school libraries in its network. With this significant step, Santa Clara County Library District members have gained access to an increasing eBook collection with a vast inventory of fiction and nonfiction titles. The ebooks are available to all ages and compatible on different e-readers, including all major Window and Mac desktops, and mobile devices such as the iPad, Sony Reader,

Barnes & Noble NOOK, Android and Amazon Kindle. “The demand for our online and digital services continues to grow,” said Santa Clara County Librarian and Executive Director Melinda Cervantes. “All of our libraries have sample e-readers and our staff is ready to assist those who want to learn how to download eBooks and other resources from our Library catalog.” The popularity of eBooks and e-audiobooks continues to increase throughout libraries that are part of Santa Clara County Library District. In May 2011, 2,938 eBooks were downloaded. The library also has downloadable audio eBooks in its collection. When e-audio books were added, downloads increased to approximately 5,300. The Santa Clara County Library District has over 8,000 eBooks, and it expects to more than triple the eBook budget for 2011. In the past three months, 390 new titles were purchased. The Library District’s eBook circulation for children’s eBooks increased 1,366 percent from 2008 to 2010, while the use among adults increased 1,846 percent. This leaflet does not take the place of talking with your doctor about your medical condition or treatment. If you have any questions about DIOVAN, ask your doctor or pharmacist. What is the most important information I should know about DIOVAN? Taking DIOVAN during pregnancy can cause injury and even death to your unborn baby. If you get pregnant, stop taking DIOVAN and call your doctor right away. Talk to your doctor about other ways to lower your blood pressure if you plan to become pregnant. What is DIOVAN? DIOVAN is a prescription medicine called an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB). It is used in adults to: U lower high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children, 6 to 16 years of age. U treat heart failure in adults. In these patients, DIOVAN may lower the need for hospitalization that happens from heart failure. U improve the chance of living longer after a heart attack (myocardial infarction) in adults. DIOVAN is not for children under 6 years of age or children with certain kidney problems. High Blood Pressure (Hypertension). Blood pressure is the force in your blood vessels when your heart beats and when your heart rests. You have high blood pressure when the force is too much. DIOVAN can help your blood vessels relax so your blood pressure is lower. High blood pressure makes the heart work harder to pump blood throughout the body and causes damage to the blood vessels. If high blood pressure is not treated, it can lead to stroke, heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure and vision problems. Heart Failure occurs when the heart is weak and cannot pump enough blood to your lungs and the rest of your body. Just walking or moving can make you short of breath, so you may have to rest a lot. Heart Attack (Myocardial Infarction): A heart attack is caused by a blocked artery that results in damage to the heart muscle. What should I tell my doctor before taking DIOVAN? Tell your doctor about all your medical conditions including whether you: U have any allergies. See the end of this leaflet for a complete list of ingredients in DIOVAN. U have a heart condition U have liver problems U have kidney problems U are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. See “What is the most important information I should know about DIOVAN?” U are breast-feeding. It is not known if DIOVAN passes into your breast milk. You and your doctor should decide if you will take DIOVAN or breast-feed, but not both. Talk with your doctor about the best way to feed your baby if you take DIOVAN. U For treatment of high blood pressure, take DIOVAN one time each day, at the same time each day. U If your child cannot swallow tablets, or if tablets are not available in the prescribed strength, your pharmacist will mix DIOVAN as a liquid suspension for your child. If your child switches between taking the tablet and the suspension, your doctor will adjust the dose as needed. Shake the bottle of suspension well for at least 10 seconds before pouring the dose of medicine to give to your child. U For adult patients with heart failure or who have had a heart attack, take DIOVAN two times each day, at the same time each day. Your doctor may start you on a low dose of DIOVAN and may increase the dose during your treatment. U DIOVAN can be taken with or without food.

U If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to your next dose, do not take the missed dose. Take the next dose at your regular time. U If you take too much DIOVAN, call your doctor or Poison Control Center, or go to the nearest hospital emergency room. What are the possible side effects of DIOVAN? DIOVAN may cause the following serious side effects: Injury or death to an unborn baby. See “What is the most important information I should know about DIOVAN?” Low Blood Pressure (Hypotension). Low blood pressure is most likely to happen if you also take water pills, are on a low-salt diet, get dialysis treatments, have heart problems, or get sick with vomiting or diarrhea. Lie down, if you feel faint or dizzy. Call your doctor right away. Kidney problems. Kidney problems may get worse in people that already have kidney disease. Some people will have changes on blood tests for kidney function and may need a lower dose of DIOVAN. Call your doctor if you get swelling in your feet, ankles, or hands, or unexplained weight gain. If you have heart failure, your doctor should check your kidney function before prescribing DIOVAN. Chicago, (Notimex) l 12 por ciento de los adolescentes estadunidenses que se identifican como tímidos padecen de fobia social, un trastorno siquiátrico que puede ser tratado, asegura un estudio de la Academia Estadunidense de Pediatría (AAP). Los resultados de la investigación, que se publicaran en la edición de noviembre de la revista Pediatrics, indican que la fobia social es un trastorno perjudicial, más allá del rango de lo normal, y que su medicación puede ser necesaria, además de útil para aliviar los síntomas. Los adolescentes con este padecimiento registran un mayor deterioro social, pueden experimentar transtornos siquiátricos como ansiedad y variación en el estado de ánimo, además de caer en el abuso de sustancias. Sin embargo, la principal dificultad es que la mayoría de los jóvenes no se identifica como una persona tímida, lo que hace necesario que los médicos cuenten con elementos para detectar algún indicio y determinar si hay timidez normal o fobia social detrás de ciertos comportamientos de sus pacientes. La investigación que difundirá la AAP se originó ante el debate médico surgido respecto a si la comprobación de fobia social, que parte del diagnóstico de una timidez humana normal, puede generar un tratamiento innecesario, especialmente en la juven-

tud. El estudio denominado “La timidez frente a la fobia social de la juventud en Estados Unidos” fue coordinado por Marcy Burstein, del Instituro de Salud Mental de Bethesda, Maryland, se centró en el análisis de la timidez y la fobia social, sus similitudes y diferencias de acuerdo con características sociodemográficas, así como el uso de medicamentos entre jóvenes con ambas conductas. Los especialistas analizaron los datos de la Encuesta Nacional de Adolescentes, una muestra representativa que contó con la participación de más de 10 mil 123 jóvenes de entre 13 y 18 años, con una serie de trastornos mentales que incluían la fobia social, así como más de seis mil padres El 62.4 por ciento de los padres dijeron que su hijo era tímido, pero sólo el 46.7 por ciento de los jóvenes se reportó como tal. El 12 por ciento de los jóvenes que se identificaron como tímidos también reunieron características de fobia a la vida social. Los adolescentes con este mal mostraron significativamente un mayor deterioro social y fueron más propensos a experimentar una gran variedad de trastornos siquiátricos, como ansiedad, variación en el estado de ánimo y comportamiento, así como el abuso de sustancias. Los resultados del estudio proporcionaron evidencias de que la fobia social es un trastorno psiquiátrico perjudicial, más allá de la timidez humana normal, y puede ser tratado por los médicos.

Asimismo, dijo, por tratar de desarrollar terapias celulares, químicas, farmacológicas para aminorar el efecto que tiene la degeneración nerviosa en esa enfermedad. Álvarez-Buylla ofreció una rueda de prensa en esta ciudad del norte de España, junto con los científicos Joseph Altman y Giacomo Rizzolatti, todos ganadores del Premio Príncipe de Asturias de Investigación Científica y Técnica. Aclaró que el tema del Alzheimer “no es directamente el campo de ninguno de nosotros pero sí entendemos mucho mejor la enfermedad de lo que hace solo 20 años, por lo que no se puede decir que no ha habido avances”. Para Altman, en cuanto al Alzheimer, el problema radica en que no sólo se trata del número de neuronas que van a determinar el fun-

cionamiento cerebral sino las conexiones que tienen entre sí. Explicó que a diferencia de mucho otros tejidos del cuerpo, las neuronas funcionan de manera colectiva, es decir interactúan las unas con las otras y crean circuitos complejos. “A diferencia de una computadora que se puede quitar un componente y meter otro, el cerebro funciona de otra manera, no se crea a partir de trozos de componentes sino que se va haciendo con una secuencia muy predecible y muy regular”, dijo. Altman, autor de libros como “Development of the Cerebeller System” y “Development of the Human Spinal Cord”, anotó que el desarrollo de la construcción de los circuitos no va a tener lugar si simplemente se introducen nuevas células. “Por eso tenemos grandes problemas, pues aún pudiendo añadir células nerviosas nuevas, se trata de cómo lograr estas conexiones de forma correcta para lograr circuitos funcionales y que yo sepa, esto no se ha logrado aún”, dijo. If breast cancer is found and treated early, most cases can be cured. Because women play such a major role in detecting breast cancer, it’s important for them to develop breast self-awareness, or an understanding of the normal appearance and feel of their breasts. Breast self-awareness differs from traditional breast self-exams in that it doesn’t require women to examine their breasts at specific intervals or with a precise method. Instead, breast self-awareness emphasizes having a solid sense of what is normal for your breasts so you are better able to recognize any changes, no matter how small, and report them to your doctor. Most breast problems, especially in young women, are not cancer. Common breast problems include: - Fibrocystic changes, which may make your breasts feel lumpy and tender and often

occur near the time of your period. Fibrocystic changes may also cause breast pain, itchiness, and swelling. - Cysts, or small sacs filled with fluid, which can be almost any size, on your breasts. They usually develop in women ages 25–50 and in women who are taking hormone therapy after menopause. Cysts are benign in most cases. - Fibroadenomas, or solid, non-cancerous lumps, which occur most often in young women. These lumps appear in both breasts, usually in an even pattern. If you have felt a lump, you should be examined by your doctor even if your last mammography result was normal. Most women who experience fibrocystic changes, cysts, or fibroadenomas do not have a greater chance of developing breast cancer. In addition to the symptoms of these common breast problems, you should tell your doctor if you experience nipple retraction (nipple turns in), redness of nipples or breast skin, and scaly nipples or breast skin. Possible warning signs of breast cancer include a lump in only one of your breasts, dimpling or other changes in the skin on your breasts, and spontaneous nipple discharge. If you see a change in your breasts at any time, your doctor should examine them. He or she will review when you first had symptoms and how long they have lasted. Your doctor will also ask questions about your medical history to check for other factors that could point to an increased risk of breast cancer. Pecan Rice Stuffing 3 cups cooked white or brown rice 1/4 cup margarine 3/4 cup chopped onion 3/4 cup chopped celery 1/2 cup chopped pecans, toasted 1/4 cup chopped parsley 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste) 1/4 teaspoon pepper 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning (or to taste) In large skillet, sauté onions and celery in margarine until tender. Stir in remaining ingredients, mixing well. Spoon into casserole; cover tightly and bake at 375 degrees for 15-20 minutes.

Cranberry Pecan Rice Pilaf 2 tablespoons butter or margarine 1 cup uncooked white rice 1 3/4 cups chicken broth 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese 1/2 cup dried cranberries 1/2 cup chopped pecans, toasted 1/4 cup sliced green onions Salt and ground black pepper, to taste Melt butter in 2-quart saucepan over medium heat. Add rice; cook and stir 2 to 3 minutes. Add broth and heat to boiling; stir once or twice. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 20 minutes or until liquid is absorbed. Remove from heat. Stir in cheese, cranberries, pecans and onions. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

l destino pone bandas extraordinarias por épocas y generaciones. En mi época la banda que cambio el rumbo de la música en español es Caifanes. Caifanes llego a revolucionar el rock en español. Con letras tan psicodélicas como su vestimenta y un sonido crudo y melódico comenzaron su carrera como “Las Insólitas Imágenes de Aurora”. Caifanes fue una de las primeras bandas en contar con fans que se sabían las canciones mucho antes que saliera algún LP o casete. Ellos llegaron a influenciar a más de una generación y para todas esas personas que se enamoraron de esas canciones, la tristeza de su separación los llevo a pensar nunca más los volverían a ver. La causa de la separación fueron las diferencias entre Saúl Hernández y Alejandro Marcovich, dicha separación dejaba un fondo negro en la historia de la música. Un accidente sufrido por Marcovich motivó a los integrantes a unirse nuevamente. Los festivales Coachella y Vive Latino, tuvieron ventas record por la presentación de dicha banda, en cuestión de minutos los boletos se agotaron. El éxito de dichas presentaciones y los numerosos comentarios en la red social de Twitter, obligaron a Caifanes iniciar una gira por los Estados Unidos y México, siendo el cierre de esta gira una presentación gratuita en el zócalo. La pregunta que nos hacemos los seguidores de esta legendaria banda es, ¿Esperaremos un DVD de la gira o nuevo material? ¿O es mucho pedir?

Morelia, (Notimex) ncansables y dispuestos a seguir con su “guacarock”, Botellita de Jerez prepara la secuela de la docu-ficción “Naco es chido”, con la cual pretende seguir escribiendo su historia, “aún hay mucho que contar”. La banda integrada por Armando Barrios “El Mastuerzo”, Armando Vega Gil y Sergio Arau dio a conocer algunos pormenores de esta secuela, que es planeada luego del éxito de boca en boca de “Naco es chido”, filme exhibido en el marco de las actividades del Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia (FICM).

“Queremos hacer una secuela de ´Naco es chido´ para seguir con el cotorreo autobiográfico, pues aún hay mucho que contar de los botellos a su consideración”, comentó Francisco Barrios, conocido como “El Mastuerzo”. Reconoció que pese a que no contaron con una gran taquilla cuando se estrenó este proyecto, eso no los desanima, sino al contrario ahora más que nunca están seguros de que deben continuar con la realización de lo que creen que puede gustar a quienes los siguen.
