Dear Readers,
Welcome to August! While we do our best here at Energi Magazine to focus on the positive, the truth is that it’s not always sunshine and rainbows We all have things that we struggle with and obstacles that we overcome. One of the big ones for me is anxiety and over the past couple years I have worked at managing those heavy feelings of overwhelm that can sometimes be more of a hindrance than I care to admit
i
I have personally been exploring a variety of ways to not only manage the challenges I deal with when experiencing anxiety but also diving deeper into what might be causing the problem and how to help heal it.
This month we are looking at some of the strategies we can use to ease anxiety as well as trying to understand where it comes from and why it impacts us the way that is does.

Managing
By Chris Lee
Anxiety can often catch us off guard, leaving us feeling panicked and overloaded with fear. Have you ever experienced this scenario? You get so wrapped up in day-to-day tasks that you didn’t realize that stress was starting to build up Then one day, unexpectedly- BOOM! A negative experience triggers a wave of anxiety: Your heart starts racing, your breathing gets shallow and a flood of negative thoughts overrun what little bit of composure and decorum you previously had
High anxiety or a panic attack can leave us feeling emotionally exhausted and in many cases embarrassed at our lack of self-awareness and absence of coping skills. If this describes your experience with anxiety, fear not!
Your level of awareness along with a consistent self-care regimen can move things in the right direction. It’s true that the internet is filled with self-care blogs, articles, pintrests posts and videos. So you probably feel an internal collective groan whenever you hear that overused term. Yes, I do too But self-care is much more than just a new buzzword The essence of self-care is caring for yourself - getting to know what soothes, nourishes and heals your body, mind and spirit.
If we invest in our mental health with self-care habits, it can strengthen our minds and give us the tools we need to face anxiety and help us to better handle life’s challenges and uncertainties. To better understand the importance of self-care, let’s consider it from the standpoint of preventative care versus emergency care.
With Self-Care
Preventative Care vs Emergency Care
Imagine you have a car. Preventative maintenance would involve things like regular oil changes, tire rotations, and brake inspections to ensure the car runs smoothly and to avoid major breakdowns. Likewise, by engaging in daily self-care practices like mindfulness meditation and physical activity, we keep our mental health in check and reduce the likelihood and frequency of severe anxiety episodes.
Now, consider what happens if you ignore preventative maintenance One day (usually at the worst possible time), your car breaks down on the freeway because the engine oil leaked out Now this is an emergency situation that may require missed time from work and an expensive repair bill.
Relating this situation to mental health, this is like to having a severe anxiety attack because ongoing stress was not managed. You might need to take immediate steps like calling a therapist, using emergency calming techniques, or taking a break from work to deal with the crisis.
Preventative maintenance involves regular and proactive actions to keep systems running smoothly and prevent problems before they arise. In terms of managing stress and anxiety, this means incorporating self-care practices into your daily routine to maintain mental health and wellbeing For example, daily meditation, regular exercise, proper sleep, and healthy eating habits all build resilience and help manage our stress levels - thus preventing anxiety from becoming overwhelming.
Emergency maintenance, on the other hand, refers to actions taken in direct response to an immediate crisis In the context of stress and anxiety, this involves addressing intense stress or anxiety episodes as they occur. Wemay need to take a mental-health day, seek out immediate support from a friend or therapist during a panic attack, or use quick stress-relief techniques like deep breathing or grounding exercises to calm our nerves
A Starting Point
Begin by setting aside just a few minutes each day for a simple activity that brings you peace, such as deep breathing or a short walk. Gradually, you can explore other practices like meditation or journaling, starting with just five minutes and slowly increasing the time as you become more comfortable. It's important to be patient with yourself and recognize that building a self-care routine takes time. Celebrate small achievements and remember that every little bit helps boost your mental well-being By starting slow, you create a sustainable selfcare practice that can grow with you over time.
Here is the real “payoff” for a regular selfcare routine. These practices train the brain to manage stress more effectively, promoting a sense of calm and balance Meditation helps by increasing focus and reducing the reactivity of the amygdala, the brain’s fear center. Mindfulness encourages being in the present-moment, helping us to reduce anxious thoughts
Breath work activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which counteracts the body's stress response and induces relaxation. By incorporating these habits into our daily routine, we strengthen our mental "muscles," making us more adept at handling anxiety and maintaining overall mental well-being. With practice and a good self-care routine - our minds will begin to automatically revert to more positive thoughts instead of the thoughts that pushed us to our limits.
Self-Care Can Combat Anxiety 5 Things to Know:
Reduces Stress Levels: Self-care activities help lower cortisol levels in the body, which reduces overall stress and anxiety. Self-care practices promote relaxation and a sense of calm, making it easier to manage anxiety
Improves Mood: Engaging in activities that bring you joy can significantly improve your mood. This positive shift in mood can reduce the frequency and intensity of anxious feelings.
Enhances Mental Resilience: Regular self-care strengthens your mental resilience, making you better equipped to handle stressful situations. Mindful practices help build mental toughness, allowing you to navigate anxiety more effectively.
Promotes Better Sleep: Adequate rest is crucial for mental health Self-care routines that include winding down before bed, reading a book or taking a warm bath, can improve sleep quality, which in turn helps reduce anxiety.
Encourages Healthy Lifestyle Choices: Self-care often involves making healthier lifestyle choices, such as eating a balanced diet, staying hydrated, and getting regular exercise. These habits can improve overall well-being and reduce anxiety symptoms.
3 Signs That You Should Seek Professional Help
1. Persistent Anxiety: If you find that your anxiety is constant and doesn't seem to improve despite regular self-care, it might be time to seek professional help.
2 Physical Symptoms: Experiencing severe physical symptoms like chest pain, shortness of breath, or frequent panic attacks indicates that your anxiety might be beyond what self-care alone can manage.
3 Impact on Daily Functioning: When anxiety starts to significantly affect your ability to work, socialize, or maintain relationships, it's time to seek help from a mental health professional. They can provide strategies and treatments to help you regain control and improve your daily functioning.

WhenAnxiousTimesCallFor HarmoniousMeasures
By: Priya Ali
Anxiety, that unwelcome visitor, often sneaks into our minds unannounced, turning our peaceful moments into whirlwinds of worry. It seems to appear out of nowhere, but if we look closer, it usually has a more subtle beginning. Often, it’s born from our daily stresses, that long to-do list, or even the uncertainties of life. Our mind, which loves to be in control, gets thrown for a loop when it can’t predict what’s coming next, and voila! Anxiety makes its grand entrance.
So how do we escort this pesky guest out the door and reclaim our inner peace? One of the first steps is to anchor ourselves in the present. This can be as simple as taking a few deep breaths, it doesn’t have to be anything fancy, just a good old-fashioned inhale and exhale. Let's call it a 'sigh with purpose.' When we breathe deeply, we remind our body that right here, right now, everything is okay.
Next, consider shifting your perspective. Instead of viewing anxiety as a monster lurking under the bed, see it as a nudge from the Universe, encouraging you to pay attention to your needs. Maybe it’s a sign to rest, to play, or to reconnect with what brings you joy. Humour is a powerful antidote here. Imagine anxiety as a drama queen throwing a tantrum for attention. Acknowledge it with a playful eye roll and carry on with your day.
To nurture the mind, body, spirit connection, physical movement is a fantastic ally. Yes, even a little dance in front of your bathroom mirror counts! When we move our bodies, we shake off the stagnant energy and make room for vitality. Yoga, Tai Chi, or even a spontaneous shimmy or hip shake, can help shift our energy from tense to tranquil.
Our mind is a storyteller, always weaving tales, some beautiful, some terrifying By practicing mindfulness or meditation, we can gently guide our mind away from anxious narratives and towards more empowering ones. Picture yourself as the calm director of this mental movie, editing out the scenes of worry and replacing them with visions of peace and joy.
To spice things up, introduce rituals into your daily routine These don't have to be over the top ceremonies, just simple acts that you engage in with meaning. Perhaps a morning tea ritual where you savour every sip or an evening gratitude practice where you recount three things that made you smile that day. These rituals remind us that life is filled with moments of magic, even amid busyness.
Lastly, let's talk about spiritual states of being This is where the fun begins! Imagine transforming from an anxious mess into a serene sage, a joyful jester, or a whimsical wanderer. These personas, or whatever feels right to you, embody qualities that lift your spirit. You might find yourself laughing more, dancing freely, or simply feeling at peace with what is Embrace these states playfully and watch how they light up your life
So there you have it, anxiety may knock on our door, but we’re equipped to greet it with compassion, humour, and a transformative spirit. May this journey bring you closer to your heart and fill your days with light and laughter.

August Reading with Energi Empress Priya
Card: Eireen; Peace
The message from The COLE (The Council of Light and Energy) for this month comes through the peace card saying, “ there is no need to worry, as everything is working out beautifully”
For some of you, The COLE has observed you in extreme worry situations ranging from health, to relationships, to finances, uncertainty over the future, to finding happiness. They see you so deeply aligned with all the things that you do not wish to experience any longer However, when they look alongside the universe for what it is that you do wish to experience, those descriptions are vague to nonexistent. This leaves uncertainty as to what else to provide you with because your thoughts are solely focused on the things you do not want. You are encouraged, in the month of August, to create clarity for yourself as to what it is that you really wish to experience in this lifetime
With the cosmic alignment creating the Lions Gate portal opening on August 8, we will see an increase in the cosmic energies. This will provide a timeframe for you to move your spiritual growth forward with increased momentum from the energies and little, less or for some no effort required on your part, except expecting everything to work out in your favour
For some of you, the message is to advise that more pieces are needed within yourself before you can experience more peace from your surrounding world The COLE observes a very chaotic, busy and scattered mind amongst many of you that is preventing peace to reside within you or outside of you. They wish to remind you that it all starts with you.
For some of you, the message this month is one of encouragement to bring peace to a conflict that exists between you and friends or family members, which could include romantic life partners Well you may be able to continue a valiant fight, you need to be right is overshadowing the possibility of peace, resolution, and ultimately love.
The COLE are bringing you the message that the upcoming Lionsgate portal encourages, heart centered consciousness, and high vibrational living in order to develop your spiritual growth and enlightenment
With my pure love and appreciation, Energi Empress Priya
