Splish Splash Spring Break Camp at the Aquatic Center gives campers plenty of pool time, crafting opportunities, movies, and even swimming lessons. This camp is open to all children from five to thirteen years of age. Campers must be able to swim 25 yards unassisted to attend camp. SWIMMING LESSONS
Swimming Lessons for All Ages
Cherokee County Aquatic Center swimming lessons emphasize water safety and skill development in a safe fun environment. Group swim lessons and private lessons are offered.
Group Lessons: The American Red Cross and Water Safety program is offered at the Cherokee County Aquatic Center. The different courses seek to help participants of all ages and varying abilities develop familiarity with being in the water and learning basic skills for aquatic safety, survival, and recreational swimming while developing an awareness of how to stay safe in, or around water. Levels Offered: Parent/Child 6 months to 3 years, Preschool 3 years to 5 years, ARC Levels 1-5 6 years to 12 years, Adult 12 years and up. Aquatic CENTER
SWIM TEAMS The Aquatic Center is the home to the Pelicans Summer Swim Team, the Pelicans USA Club Swim Team, and the Pelicans Developmental Swim Team. Each team provides a fun and safe environment for young swimmers. Tryouts are required for each group—see below for minimum qualifications. We also provide the opportunity for swimmers to get ready for the summer swim season with our Dive Certification and Stroke Clinic programs.

THE GREAT CHEROKEE SINKAPALOOZA
Grab 4 friends and enough supplies to fit into 1 plastic grocery bag and join us for a cardboard boat build and race where the only goal is to get across the pool and not sink. There will be 2 divisions: Youth only teams (5yrs-12yrs), family teams and adult only teams. Teams will be allowed to bring in 1 plastic bag of items to help you build your boat. World’s Largest Swim Lesson
Saturday, July 17 • 12:00 p.m. Help us break into the Guinness Book of World Records! According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the largest swimming lesson class included 1,308 students. On Thursday June 25 (noon) the Aquatic Center swim instructors need you to help break that record. With your help, it will be accomplished (safely, of course). See ya at the pool!

Prerequisites:
The American Red Cross Lifeguarding classes are designed to teach you the basics in water safety and the proper protocol when dealing with any emergency in and around water. The Red Cross blends both traditional lecture style along with crucial hands-on training in order to teach you effective techniques to deliver prompt care to those in need. This course will teach you to respond safely and efficiently to water emergencies with lifeguard classes from the American Red Cross. Students passing this class successfully will be lifeguard certified.

BABYSITTING + PEDIATRIC CPR CLASSES
The course provides aspiring babysitters with the knowledge and skill set necessary to safely and responsibly care for children and infants. This training helps participants develop leadership skills; learn how to develop a babysitting business; keep themselves and others safe; help children behave; and learn the basics of childcare and first aid. This course will also certify participants who meet the requirements in pediatric first aid and CPR.

The Cherokee Youth Basketball Summer League is a basketball program designed to help promote the game of basketball during the off season. This league will help participants learn to score and play defense in a fast-paced environment.

The Cherokee Youth Lacrosse program is a member of the Metro Atlanta Youth Lacrosse Association (MAYLA). Children between the ages of five and fourteen are encouraged to participate. The season will consist of regular practice sessions and eight regular season games—four at home and four away. Participants are asked to register in accordance with the high school district in which they live. Small Group Personal Training (perfect for the 50+ age group) This is your chance to get on track with a certified personal trainer in a fun, energetic, semi-private setting. Gina Baumgartner is a certified NASM Certified Personal Trainer, SFS, and always takes into consideration your current medical conditions. Gina carefully evaluates your fitness level and helps you set achievable goals. Training sessions are carefully designed for each group based on the current level of fitness of each participant. Enjoy a different functional training workout during each session as you incorporate flexibility, core, balance, stabilization, fall prevention, strength, and power. You will increase good health, longevity, and harbor more energy to better enjoy daily activities, travel, and your family. Tai Chi for Health
Our Tai Chi for health programs are a good introduction to Tai Chi. Jocelyn Simpson is a Board-Certified Instructor and Master Trainer through Dr. Paul Lam and the Tai Chi for Health Institute. Tai Chi for Health is designed to improve the quality of life for people with arthritis and other chronic conditions. The goal is to improve balance and mobility while preventing falls. Our unique teaching method makes it easy and fun to learn. Tai Chi for Health is an enjoyable exercise that improves nearly all aspects of health including muscle strength and flexibility, fitness, relaxation, balance, posture, immunity, and stress relief. Participants are welcome to engage while standing or sitting. Advanced classes also available with instructor approval. Gentle Joints
Gentle Joints is a low impact aerobics and strength training class designed specifically for mature adults and individuals with joint challenges. Class format will vary among instructors. The class may include the use of hand weights, stability balls, and various resistance equipment such as bands, Pilate’s circles, and mini balls. The class is geared toward balance, flexibility, strength, posture, cardio-pulmonary fitness, and exercises to target bone density, mobility, and joint issues. Veterans Adaptive Fly Fishing
If you’ve ever wanted to learn the art of fly fishing, this is your chance. You’ll learn the basics of fly fishing and how to cast. Participants are introduced to flies, lines, leaders, knots, and a variety of equipment options. In addition, the course includes educational topics such as clean water conservation, insect life, fly tying, and places to fish. This course is offered in part by the Cohutta Chapter of Trout Unlimited. Equipment and lunch will be provided. The class is limited to twenty participants. Registration & More Registration Information
Summer Camp Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. on April 19, 2021. Most other registrations begin at 9:00 am on February 1, 2021. Registration takes place at the Recreation Center or online at PlayCherokee.org.
General Information
u Registration is available online or in-person at
the Recreation Center or the Aquatic Center.
u Cash, credit cards, and debit cards welcome
forms of payment.
u ALL debit/credit card purchases will incur a
small transaction fee. u Returned checks are subject to a $35 fee.
Cancellation Policy
u All classes falling short of minimum enrollment will
be postponed or canceled.
u In the event of class cancellation on the part of CRPA,
all registered students will receive a notification. Class cancellations may be due to low enrollment, inclement weather, or instructor unavailability. u A full refund will be granted upon class cancellation by CRPA. u Programs, events, and classes missed due to personal reasons will not be refunded. Neither will such absences be granted make-up opportunities.
Credit/Refund Information
u All refund/credit requests must be completed in
person during regular business hours and at least five (5) working days prior to the beginning date of the program. u Refund/credit requests must be in writing and are subject to approval by the Cherokee Recreation & Parks Agency staff. u Refunds make take up to thirty (30) days for processing. There are no cash refunds. u Participants requesting a refund will incur a $5 administrative fee. u Transaction fees will not be refunded. u Credit agreements will not incur a $5 administrative fee. u For Aquatic Center fund policies, please see our website.
Registration Requirements
u If a participant requires special accommodations, the
Program Coordinator must be notified fifteen (15) business days before the beginning of the program to attempt accommodation. u Please find specific age and gender requirements under the program description on each page. u All participants (or their parents/guardians) must complete a waiver/release form before participating in any program.
Open Gym
The Recreation Center gymnasium is available for open-play when scheduled programs and rentals are not occupying the facility. Call before you visit to request open gym hours. The fees for utilizing the open gym are $2.00 per day for people thirteen (13) years of age and older and $1.00 per day for children twelve (12) years of age and younger.

Advisory Board
A Recreation Advisory Board has been appointed by the Board of Commissioners to act as a guide for CRPA planning and implementation of public recreational activities and programs as well as offering advice on a system of parks and facilities that will accommodate the needs of the public. Board members’ terms run concurrently with appointing Board of Commissioners.
Photography & Video Policy
On occasion, CRPA may photograph or videotape registrants, participants, and spectators in Agency programs, special events, or facilities. Such photographs are for Agency use only. Agency reserves the right to print and publish said pictures and videos in publications, brochures, pamphlets, flyers, websites, or video productions.
