RI’s president to open WGC 2010 Indonesia has 40 percent of world geothermal potency IBP

DENPASAR – The potency of geothermal in Indonesia estimated around 28,000 MW or 40 percent from all the potency in the world. Unfortunately, from those potency that existing in Indonesia only 1,189 MW that being used as power plant. Chairman of The Organizing Committee World Geothermal Congress (WGC) 2010 Herman Darnel Ibrahim accompanied by President Indonesian Geothermal Association (INAGA) Dr. Ir. Surya Darma, MBA stated that during the press briefing of WGC 2010 on Sunday. Herman said these days Indonesia hoped to increase their geothermal power plant by adding around 4,000 MW until 2015. It

is also estimated that by 2025, Indonesia will increase the geothermal use as electricity to 9,500 MW. To know the latest technology about this renewable energy, said Herman, the international geothermal association held the world geothermal congress every five year. This year, the WGC is held in Bali and around 2,500 participants from 85 countries will attend this five days meeting. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to open this world congress today. ‘’During this five days meeting we will sign contracts on geothermal projects around the world. There are several projects in Indonesia that also will be signed in this meeting,” explain Herman. Continued on page 6
