l 1 6 d e septiembre, un terremoto con magnitud de 8.3 en la escala de Richter sacudió Chile, hasta el momento se han reportado 13 muertes. De acuerdo con la Encuesta Geológica de EE.UU, el terremoto fue seguido por varios temblores secundarios. Además, CNN reportó que se observaron grandes olas de tsunami a lo largo de la costa chilena. “En Coquimbo, Chile, una ola llegó a más de 15 pies de altura”, reportó CNN.

n Sept. 16, an earthquake registering 8.3 on the Richter scale struck Chile, killing 13 people by the latest count. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake was followed by several aftershocks. In addition, CNN reported that large tsunami waves were observed along the Chilean coast. “In Coquimbo, Chile, a wave was measured at more than 15 feet,” CNN reported. The earthquake overturned cars and destroyed homes and buildings. Many people were seeking safety, including some people who were running in the streets when it hit. “It was a horrible situation,” said Orlando Diaz, a Chilean resident, during a telephone interview. “I thought it was the end of the world. An hour after hearing the sirens, a news alert informed Lavadores that Mariana Hernandez-Gonzalez had sustained a fatal gun wound a short distance from the church. Hernandez-Gonzalez was a mother of six. Her children were injured in the events that ended in her death, but are expected to make full recoveries.
