Unfortunately, the number shouldn’t have come as a surprise. America’s debt has grown rapidly. How bad is America’s spending problem? The Heritage Foundation’s Alison Fraser, patrick Knudsen and Mackenzie eaglen put it into context: At $1.3 trillion, the deficit for fiscal year 2011 was the third consecutive year of deficits exceeding $1 trillion. These deficits are larger than the largest deficit during World

From there, the president’s proposed deficits would rise back into the trillion-dollar range by decade’s end. According to Fraser, total national debt has increased by almost $700 billion since the first of August (the heat of the debt limit debate). This new $15 trillion debt milestone has particular relevance headed into next week when the congressional “super committee” faces its deadline for finding $1.5 trillion in budget savings by Thanksgiving. Washington has brought the nation into a fiscal nightmare. Now, this committee is tasked with finding ways to pare that spending back. Some are calling for tax increases as a way to solve this problem, but inadequate revenue isn’t the issue — too much spending is. And The Heritage Foundation has set forth three pillars pAGe 2>

hihuahua Gov. Cesar Duarte and New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez were recently in Coyame, a small community in the Mexican state of Chihuahua, to commemorate the 1910 uprising in Cuchillo parado, which is considered the beginning of the Mexican Revolution. Both governors also attended a solemn Mexican Revolution commemoration ceremony held by the Chihuahua Congress. The event was attended by residents of neighboring cities, including Ojinaga and Manuel Benavides. Governor Duarte recalled how Governor Martinez’s great-grandfather, Toribio Ortega – accompanied by 70 men, many of them unarmed – began the struggle. Ortega’s involvement, he suggested, reflects the nature and value of Chihuahua. “Along with the general pancho Villa and … Francisco I. Madero, Toribio Ortega was one of the most important leaders of the Northern Division,” he said. “(He was a man) who, from Cuchillo parado, launched cries of democracy and freedom to the country. The quest that began here gave meaning to the Mexican Revolution and nurtured a valid claim for justice.” Regarding the visit of his New Mexico pAGe 2A>

“Who Cares”

What about the other side, the government side? Well, they too are about MONEY. You see, they need MONEY to pay for hiring and training personnel. They need MONEY for equipment to enforce immigration laws. They need MONEY to remove people from the United States. They need taxpayer MONEY – and lots of it – to protect not just the people of this country, but also the thousands of people who enter and live among us without legal status. I’m not just talking about immigration officials; I’m talking about all the public service professionals who choose to dedicate their lives serving all the people, not just the pAGe 2>
