Gonzalez Dominguez worked for the Ojinaga News. after Gonzalez Dominguez’s death, the organization made the following announcement online: “The director (of) and reporter for this news station has been executed. This is probably our last note. This attempt against journalism isn’t a true tragedy. Rest in peace, Jaime Guadalupe Gonzalez Dominguez.” Gonzalez Dominguez’s death came one week after the journal El Siglo from Torreon had suffered three consecutive attacks against federal agents in charge of the security of that media outlet, according to its director, Javier Garza Ramos. In protest of the homicide, the agreement for the Informational Coverage of Violence demanded “an unequivocal signal by the Mexican state that those who attempt (violence) against the (journalism) profession don’t get a free pass” and pointed out that this was the first assassinated journalist in Mexico during the current administration. “The constant omissions by authorities of the three branches of government have left this country’s press in a state of total defenselessness,” the organization stated through a press release. “It’s time to show the political willpower necessary to put an end to this cycle of violence and impunity.”

House close to immigration bill deal By Dos Mundos West Texas, based on reporting by the Associated Press
T
he associated Press is reporting a bipartisan group of U.S. House members are close to putting the final touches on a comprehensive immigration bill and have already met with party leaders to brief them, aides said on March 15. a spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner said the speaker had a good talk on March 15 with Republicans in the group and that the lawmakers have made progress. In addition, an associated Press report states the group’s four Democrats met on March 14 with Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi – and Pelosi’s spokesman said they were optimistic about the prospects for reform. It had been hoped that the bill would be released around the time of the last State of the Union address. Now, the bipartisan group is aiming for early april, once Congress returns from a two-week recess, an aide said. That’s the same timeline for a negotiating group in the Senate. The Senate group has received more attention because House GOP leaders are expected to wait to see what the Senate passes on immigration, if anything, before taking any action on the issue. a sweeping immigration bill is expected to be a tougher sell in the Republican-controlled House because of the Republican conference, and members of the House immigration group have struggled to write a bill with broad appeal. It remains unclear how they’ll handle a pathway to citizenship for the country’s estimated 11 million illegal immigrants. On a side note, Fox News Latino has reported that former U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez 6a>
