Even though Diego was born in the United States, he lives with his mother in Mexico City. In the video uploaded by Diaz Hernandez, she asks the president for 5 minutes to discuss about the well being of their son. Diaz Hernandez talked about the relationship she started with the President 9 years ago (when he was still married) and the lack of attention he has had towards his son that allegedly he hasn’t seen in 17 months. Diaz Hernandez points out that she has gone to court and demand her child’s rights. She has approached and asked the support of Mexican authorities and the American Embassy in Mexico. However, there is a lack of support from them towards the case. “Before he (Enrique) used to take care of his expenses, he used to have communication with him. I decided to get on social networking sites to express the pending responsibilities he has,”

During a June 5 hearing in Dietz’s courtroom, lawyers for both the districts and the state said that evidence should be updated following a legislative session in which Texas lawmakers made significant changes to public education policy. The judge asked all parties to return on June 19 to present arguments over what the scope of those new hearings should be — including what issues they should cover and logistical questions, such as limitations on discovery and other procedural rules. Dietz warned lawyers against looking at the hearings as “a chance to clean up or make stronger” their arguments during the trial. “I really think that the consideration is, was there a material change in the circumstances, was there a substantial change in circumstances by reason of” the most recent legislature, he said. Sunday is Father’s Day, which has been a national holiday for several decades. In many Latin American countries, Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June. However, many Hispanics living in the United States celebrate Dad on the same day American people do. Regardless of the date of celebration, the observance of the holiday is the same; families reunite to eat, drink and have some fun. Some people whose father is in another country get in touch with their father to congratulate him and tell him how much they care about him. It’s appropriate that fathers are honored. Dad is more than a provider or someone who takes care of you. A father is a friend, a supporter – someone who’ll be there for you, no matter what. But Chris Diamond, who represents Texans for Real Efficiency and Equity in Education, an organization of parents, school choice advocates and business interests that intervened in the lawsuit to challenge the state’s statutory cap on charter schools and system for financial accountability, disagreed. Unprecedented in its scope—forcing all Americans to buy a product, and taxing them due to their very existence if they do not—the mandate will require Americans to submit their insurance information to the IRS. Section 1502 of Obamacare includes pages of requirements that insurers will have to submit to the IRS documenting people’s health coverage, including individuals’ names, Social Security numbers, whether or not the health plan is “government-approved” coverage complying with the mandate, and “such other information as the [Treasury] Secretary (i.e., the IRS) may require.” Individuals will also get copies of these forms, and have to submit them to the government with their tax returns. The IRS has yet to release the official copy of the mandate compliance form, but Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) prepared a projection of what the form might look like. Sadly, the ATR estimate of a one-page mandate form may actually underestimate the scope of the paperwork involved. Consider Massachusetts’s reallife example of the paperwork burdens necessary to ensure compliance with the mandate: A new three-page schedule had to be completed and filed with…the state tax return. In addition, a 10-page booklet with instructions and worksheets accompanies the other instructions and worksheets for the state income tax return. If the IRS mandate form is three pages long, it will be longer than form 1040, which most Americans use to file their taxes. Most Americans find completing their taxes every year difficult enough as it is. According to the National Taxpayer Advocate’s annual report: Individuals and businesses spend about 6.1 billion hours a year complying with the filing requirements of the Internal Revenue code. If tax compliance were an industry, it would be one of the largest in the United States. To consume 6.1 billion hours, the “tax industry” requires the equivalent of more than three million full-time workers. Given the onerous paperwork burdens our country already faces thanks to the tax code, Americans do not need or want to face more bureaucratic hassles to provide personal health information to the IRS.

n May 26, Erika Escarcega Brito graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHSC) of San Antonio School of Medicine with a concentration in family medicine. Escarcega Brito was born on Nov. 2, 1986, in Odessa to Hector and Rosa Angelica Brito. As a young adult, her Mexican-born father came to Odessa to broaden his horizons and better himself for his future family. Her Texas-born mother grew up working in the onion fields, which motivated her to become a well-respected teacher of 20 years. The second oldest child of a family of six, Escarcega Brito attended Noel Elementary and Ector Junior High and went on to graduate in 2005 from Odessa High School (OHS), where she participated in various clubs and activities. Her senior year, she was named Miss OHS and graduated sixth in her class. In 2009, she graduated from Rice University with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, where she also received the Sarah Betz Award. While studying at the UTHSC of San Antonio School of Medicine, she did volunteer work with kids of all ages. Upon completion of her studies at UTHSC, Escarcega Brito will commence her residency training at the Conroe Regional Medical Center.

ersonal directivo, así como docentes y estudiantes de la Universidad Tecnológica de Chihuahua (UTCH), se trasladaron recientemente a la ciudad de Ojinaga, con el fin de asistir a las Jornadas Académicas 2013 de su extensión en aquel municipio fronterizo, durante la primera semana de mayo. La ceremonia de apertura fue presidida por el rector de la UTCH, Pablo Espinoza Flores, y los directores de las carreras que la Tecnológica ofrece. También acudieron la representante del Presidente Municipal de Ojinaga, María Elena Armendáriz y el director del CETIS 98, José Simón Madrid. El evento se llevó a cabo en las instalaciones del CETIS 98, en la cual se mostraron trabajos y proyectos diseñados por estudiantes de la unidad Ojinaga de la UTCH. jinaga pronto conmemorará los 300 años de su fundación; y hay un impulso en marcha para marca la ocasión con una estampilla conmemoratirva. El 15 de mayo, David R Reynoso Atayde, Secretario General de la Federación Regional de Obreros y Campesinos CTM de Ojinaga, presentó una petición especial al gobernador de Chihuahua César Duarte Jaquez, para que él a su vez lo haga ante Correos de México para crear una estampilla especial con el escudo del municipio. Se espera que esta estampilla sea impresa en una edición especial y limitada, que se distribuya en todo el país. Reynoso Atayde refirió que a diferencia de lo que se creé sobre el envió de las cartas, por el uso del correo electrónico, es una actividad que se sigue realizando con regularidad. “Aunque se crea que la carta tradicional es un género en proceso de desaparecer, pero es una forma entre otras de homenajear a Juan Antonio Trasviña y Retes, fundador de esta población”, declaró Reynoso. Finalmente, el Servicio Postal Mexicano tendrá que aprobar la estampilla. La CTM informó a los medios, que si bien faltan dos años y dos meses para dicho acontecimiento, este tipo de peticiones llevan todo un proceso el cual se debe de realizar con el tiempo suficiente a fin de que las autoridades correspondientes revisen la petición y emitan un veredicto. El líder obrero en la región también informó que solicitó al Banco de México (Banxico) que pusiera en circulación una moneda conmemorativa del 300 aniversario. En este proyecto se han sumado personas que siempre colaboran y hacen equipo con la federación local como Karina Carlos, Félix Rodríguez, Héctor M Moreno y Perla Machuca, entre otros.

The CTM informed the media this kind of petition involves a process that must be carried out with enough time so that the appropriate authorities can revise the petition and submit a verdict. The CMT general secretary also said he requested that the Bank of Mexico (Banxico) put into circulation a commemorative 300th anniversary coin. To generate support, the CMT is work with such figures as Karina Carlos, Felix Rodriguez, Hector M. Moreno and Perla Machuca.

Dawn Carrell, 78, of Odessa died on May 17 in Odessa. She was born on Jan. 26, 1935, in Ringling, Okla., to Omar E. and Nell Mae Baucom, who preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by five brothers, Ashley, Lee, Leslie, O.E. and Leonard; two sisters, Sybil and Jessie; and an infant daughter, Jana. In 1954, she married Floyd Bennett Carrell. They were married for 59 years

before his death in March. Survivors include her children, Leslie Boggs (wife of Jimmy) and Steve Carrell; brothers, Cecil Baucom, Earl Bauscom (husband of Myrna) and Charles Baucom; and sister, Jo Williams. Other survivors include her grandchildren, Michele Barrow (wife of Brandon), Jason Boggs (husband of Dusti) and Ashley Cox (wife of Jefferson); and great-grandchildren, Faith and Haden Barrow, and Noah and Charlotte Cox.

Cornett, Carrol Jean

Carrol Jean Cornett, 75, of Odessa died on May 20 in Odessa. She was born on Sept. 18, 1937, in Lamesa to Archie and Imogene Gillit. They preceded her in death, as did her brothers, Eddie Gillit and Willie Gillit. She was a member of the Westside Baptist Church in Odessa. On Nov. 30, 1956, she married Carl Braxton Cornett. He survives. Other survivors her daughter, Donna Winkler (wife of David) of Ballinger; son, Jay Cornett (husband of Tonya) of Odessa; sister, Ernie Zimmerman (wife of James) of Odessa; and identical twin sister, Edna Peters, of Lubbock. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Jason and Tina Winkler, Davy and Lori Winkler, Alison Winkler, Michael Butler, Cliff and Krystle Butler, and Chase Butler; great grandchildren, Justin Winkler and Dave Weston Winkler; and her puppy dog, Rascal.

She was a homemaker and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was Wright, Geron Robert a pioneer of the church in Odessa Geron Robert Wright, 57, of Odessa died on May 20. and had many friends. He was born on May 2, 1956, in Bloomfield, Iowa, to Robert Charlene Ellard and Charles Mills preceded her in death. and Gertrude Wright. They survive. Layh, Daniel Clint

Daniel Clint Layh, 35, of Boulder, Colo., died on May 18. He was born on July 10, 1977, in Hobbs, N.M., to Mike and Mary Layh. They survive. He lived in Odessa for most of his youth, graduating in 1996 from Permian High School. He was a national champion gymnast on Permian’s 1994 and 1995 men’s gymnastics teams, specializing on the rings. He then moved to San Antonio, where he opened a successful smoothie shop, Fruit of the Isle, in the Ingram Park Mall. Before his death, he had lived near Denver for the past six years, working as a parts manager for Worldwide Machinery. He was considered a master mechanic. One of his greatest pleasures was his 1965 Ford Mustang, which he and his father restored. Other survivors include his brothers, Jason Layh and Scott Layh; his sisters-in-law, Christina Layh and Jennifer Layh; and his niece and nephews, Callison, Jonah, Grayson and Reagan Layh.

Doyle Stephen Dunn, 77, of Odessa died on May 12 in Odessa. He was born on Sept. 17, 1935, in Gravin County, Okla., to Oliver and Pearl Dunn. They preceded him in death, as did his sister, Loretta Bond; and daughter, June Renae Dunn. Survivors include his wife, Lois Dunn of Odessa; one daughter, Cheryl Hudson of Dwight, Kan.; one son, Douglas Dunn (husband of Shirley) of Arlington; brothers, Alton Dunn (husband of Peggy) of Jal, N.M., and Royce Dunn (husband of Glenda) of Kermit; and sister, Karon Moffett of Las Cruces, N.M. Juana H. “Juanita” Martinez, 94, died on May 25. She was born on May 16, 1919, in Valentine to Timoteo Hernandez and Sira Gonzales Hernandez – the first of five children. They preceded her in death, as did two sisters, one brother, her beloved husband, one grandson and one son-in-law. On Nov. 22, 1937, she married Marcelino Martinez. They had four daughters and were married for 64 years before his death on April 14, 2001. She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of San Juan Catholic Church and an active member of the Guadalupanas organization. She was known as being an excellent quilter and a great cook. Survivors include her four daughters, Nellie Zuniga of Anaheim, Calif., Tillie Trevino of Balch Spring, Cira Paz (wife of Luis) and Rita Perez of Odessa; 15 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 33 great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Secundino “Nino” Hernandez of Cerritos, Calif.; and many godchildren.

Bonny Jean Rogers Earnest, 86, of Odessa died on May 18. She was born on June 2, 1926, in Okemah, Okla., to Bonnie Luther Rogers and Florence Elizabeth Johnson. They preceded her in death, as did her sisters, Marcella (Thed) Dodson and Mary (Lavene) Pitts; stepmother, Nola Rogers Barnard; son-in-law, Darwin Brown; and infant triplet great-grandchildren, Noah, Ila and Isabella. She married J.R. Earnest on April 13, 1946, at Calvary Baptist Church in Okemah. He survives. Other survivors include her four children, Kathy Hoggatt of Albuquerque, N.M.; Virginia Lee (wife of John) of Aubrey; Gerald Earnest (husband of Pam) of Odessa; and Judy Brown of Springfield, Mo. Eleoweese Moss Elder, 86, died on May 21 in Odessa. She was born on Feb. 19, 1927, in Dallas to John and Virgie Moss. They preceded her in death. She graduated in 1946 from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas. She was a longtime local business owner for many years in Odessa. Her family built, owned and operated the Rivera and the Marquee West Apartments for many years. Survivors include her children, John Elder (husband of Michelle) of San Antonio, James Elder (husband of Hazel) of Odessa and David Elder of Uvalde; grandchildren, Melissa Freund, John Moss Elder, Katie Evans, Tiffany Walker, Blair Kellard and Michael David Elder; and nine great-grandchildren.

Hinkle, Billy Wayne

Billy Wayne Hinkle, 77, of Odessa died on May 20 in Odessa. He was born on Oct. 13, 1935, in Paint Rock to Charlie and Oma Hinkle. They preceded him in death, as did Geneva Hinkle, his wife of 53 years and the mother of his children; his brother, Dewey E. Hinkle; and his older sister, Lois. He graduated from Baird High School. From 1953 to 1956, he served in the Air Force. He worked as a lineman for TXU Electric for 40 years. He was a reserve deputy sheriff and he volunteered for Christmas in April. He married Sandra Freeman Hinkle on March 2, 2009, in Odessa. She survives. Other survivors include his daughters, Vickie Ramsay of Odessa, Teresa Isom of Bridgeport and Kathy Posey of Odessa; stepdaughters, Milinda Martin, Charlotte Davis and Leila Conklin; grandchildren, Brandi Yell, Bryson Isom, Billy T. South and Jerry South; and greatgrandchildren, Kelby Young, Ethan Yell, Alli Yell, Blake Smith, Asher Isom, Marilyn South and Corey South.

Billy Mack James, 82, of Odessa died on May 16 at Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness. He was born on July 15, 1930, in Guymon, Okla. In 1957, he moved to Odessa, where he worked and retired from the General Tire and Rubber Co. He was a charter member and deacon at Mission Dorado Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Sally James of Odessa; daughters, Cindy Sommerville of Big Spring and Karen James of Waxahachie; son, David James of Kaufman; brother, Gary James of Orange; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, along with a host of friends and church family.

Moises “Mo” R. Martinez, 72, of Odessa died on May 26, 2013, in Odessa, surrounded by his loving family. He was a cancer survivor. He was born on Feb. 20, 1941, in Toyah to Refugio Martinez and Benita Renteria. They preceded him in death, as did his brothers, Frank Martinez and Ruben Martinez. He served in the U.S. military from 1960 to 1966. His long-term career was as a meat cutter at various locations in surrounding areas, including Furr’s Supermarket

and Lowes Marketplace. He was a member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. On Nov. 17, 1962, he married Manuela Machuca. She survives. Other survivors include his sons, Moises Martinez (husband of Hilda) and Richard Martinez (husband of Maricella), all of Odessa; daughters, Arcilia Alvarado (wife of Joe) of Midland and Sandra Hatfield (wife of Jeff) of Odessa; grandchildren, Moises, Issac, Veronica, Felicita Maria, Julia, Marivel, Richard Jr., Ysenia, Anali and Victoria; great-grandchildren, Alan, Ethan Adalyn, Aryana, Nicholas, Jacob, Mariah, Isabell, Elijah and Lukka; sisters, Anita Pena of El Paso, Trini Velasquez of San Angelo and Delia Mckee of Chicago.

Morton, David Michael

David Michael Morton, 64 of Odessa died on May 13. He was born on Oct. 23, 1948, in Oakdale, Calif., to Letha and J.E. Morton. In 1967, he graduated from Odessa High School. He served in the Air Force for 18 years, doing tours of duty in Germany, Turkey and at Edwards Air Force Base in California. He worked for several companies in the Permian Basin before retiring and spending time running a booth at one of the local flea markets and donating his mechanical skills to anyone who required them. He volunteered for AmVets in Odessa with friends who had served in the military. On June 22, 1971, he married Elisa Meade in San Antonio. His former wife survives. Other survivors include his daughters, Natasha MortonCarmichael and Vanessa Morton; and brothers, James A. Morton (husband of Jouree) of Cibolo and Richard L. Morton (husband of Gloria). He also leaves behind his sister and brother-in-law, Elsie and Bob Long; brothers and sisters-in-law, Anthony and Veronica Meade, Albert and Laurie Meade, and Henry and Mary Meade; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Selby, William “Bill” Henry

William “Bill” Henry Selby, 87, of Odessa died on May 22 in Odessa. He was born on Jan. 26, 1926, in Walters, Okla., to Jasper and America Selby. They preceded him in death, as did five sisters; two wives; one brother; his son, Pete Spurrier; and his daughter, Carolyn Thorton. He was a World War II veteran and served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946. He worked in the oil Industry, both on-shore and off-shore. In 1985, he retired as a tool pusher for Sharp Drilling. He married Rosa Spurrier on March 21, 1949, in Anson. She preceded him in death on Jan. 26, 1985. He married Enid Fish on April 19, 1986, in Lake Tahoe, Nev. Survivors include his daughters, Tanya Thomason (wife of Mark) and Nancy Martin (wife of Don); stepdaughters, Janice Hack and Eleanor Newell; stepsons, Joe Ross, Frank Loosli and Chuck Loosli; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and his beloved dog, Tippy.

Beatrice Horton Pruett, 94, of Odessa died on May 16 at Deerings Nursing and Rehab in Odessa. She was born on Jan. 10, 1919, in Bridgeville, Ark., to Bud and Alma Horton. Survivors include her son, Joe Trammell; and daughter, Glenda Kay Mace.

Windel LaRoy Richmond, 46, died on May 25. He was born on Oct. 5, 1966, in Odessa to Winfred and Ozelle Roan Richmond. His mother preceded him in death, as did his grandparents, G.A. Richmond (husband of Ethel) and William Roan (husband of Mary); uncles, Edward Roan, Grover Richmond and Attrel Richmond; and aunts, Clara Richmond and Virgil Lane. He graduated in 1985 from Permian

Angelica Contreras, 68, of Odessa died on May 31 at Hospice House. She was born on Aug. 3, 1944, in Mexico to Luis and Petra ( Serrano) Contreras. She spent much of her life in Ojinaga and Presidio. She was known for her love of her community and serving others selflessly. Survivors include her son, Fernando Contreras (husband of Stephanie) of Haltom City; daughter, Imelda Contreras of Odessa; and three grandchildren, Gabriel Fernando Contreras, Amelia Ann Contreras and Elias Luis Contreras, all of Haltom City.

Why do we get sick all the time? ¿Por qué nos enfermamos continuamente?

onoces tu organismo y el gran daño que le puedes hacer por desconocimiento? De nuevo, aquí algunas reflexiones que te ayudarán a reorientar tu vida. A veces tomamos a la ligera recomendaciones médicas o de personas amigas, que suponen tener la respuesta adecuada a nuestras preocupaciones de salud. Surge entonces la organización “Una Mano Amiga para Todos” cuya finalidad es brindar apoyo integral (psíquico y orgánico), al núcleo familiar, con jornadas de bienestar y nutrición, educación en valores a parejas, adolescentes y adultos, problemas como depresión, estrés, crisis de pánico, entre otros. Es así como queremos fomentar y fortalecer el respeto a nosotros como seres humanos, con la esperanza de promover en un futuro no lejano, una convivencia mucho mejor de la que tenemos. Por ejemplo: Hoy día, con los avances tecnológicos se ha perdido la comunicación al interior del hogar, salimos —disque a cenar en familia—, pero nada de eso; cada uno está inmerso en su mundo, ya sea en su Ipad, celular o tableta. ¿Qué nos está pasando? Estamos desintegrando la unidad familiar que se traduce en el comportamiento de los hijos. Atravesamos por una incertidumbre de ser o no ser con nuestros semejantes, lo cual está provocando una inseguridad de vida que altera los valores del ser humano a todo nivel. Para concretar estas acciones me he propuesto formar una ONG (Organización No Gubernamental) a través de la cual se puedan desarrollar todas las propuestas planteadas, para dar cumplimiento a esta gran cruzada que se ha propuesta “Una Mano Amiga para Todos”. Como en mis crónicas anteriores, he manifestado mi preocupación por este sentimiento, razón por la cual, les invito de nuevo, para que se contacten con nosotros, JUNTOS SI PODEMOS, cuidar el mundo físico, emocional y espiritual.

We go out for dinner pretending to have a family meal, but none of that is accomplished; each of us are immersed in our own world, whether it’s our Ipad, cellular phone or tablet. What’s happening to us? We are destroying the family unit, resulting in bad behavior from our children. We are crossing into an uncertainty of being or not being with our neighbors, which is causing insecurity and life-altering human values at all levels. I plan to form a non-governmental organization through which we can develop all the proposals necessary to comply with this crusade that we have proposed: A Helping Hand for All. As in my previous chronicles, I express my concern, which is why I invite you again to contact us. TOGETHER, WE CAN care for people’s physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

Roberto Palazuelos Un villano más para el Diamante Negro

oberto Palazuelos siempre se ha caracterizado por sus papeles de villano. Sin embargo, detrás de él existe un R hombre sencillo y simpático que simplemente sabe darle vida a

los papeles que interpreta en las telenovelas. Su trayectoria de más de 20 años lo han consolidado entre los favoritos del público. Actualmente Palazuelos da vida a Giuliano en la telenovela Que Bonito Amor, de Salvador Mejía. En su última visita a Estados Unidos, platicó con nosotros acerca de su último proyecto y de su personaje en esta telenovela. Dos Mundos: Platícanos un poco de tu personaje, ¿qué significa para ti?, otra vez un villano. Roberto Palazuelos: Yo soy villano, a mí me encantan los villanos, soy el “antagonic” y me encanta ser el malo de las películas y bueno yo disfruto mucho hacerlo. DM: ¿Por qué los disfrutas, te sientes identificado con ellos? RP: Sabes que es lo que pasa, que en la vida real yo soy muy bueno y me gusta hacer cosas contrarias a lo que yo soy en la pantalla. No me gusta interpretarme a mí mismo, y… Ay, el galancito y el amor y llorando por la novia….. me aburre. A mí me gusta en la tele tener muchas novias tener 10 ó 15, y los únicos que pueden tener 10 ó 15 novias son los antagónicos. DM: Este personaje “Giuliano”, de Que bonito amor, platícanos de él: RP: Es un abogado italo-americano que vive en Los Ángeles que se dedica al lavado de dinero; él también abusa mucho de su mejor amigo, Jorge Salinas, hasta que le cae la DEA y descubre todo el rollo y le hecha la culpa a Salinas, quien tiene que escapar en su avioneta y cae junto al Río Bravo, y de ahí se tiene que venir a México y ahí se enamora…y bueno así está la cosa. DM: Dijiste algo curioso, vas a representar un abogado cuando tú también eres abogado: RP: Así es, eso me ha permitido enriquecer muchísimo el personaje y también eso hizo que éste creciera como lo hizo porque yo me contraté por 45% de la novela; yo moría luego luego, pero después decidieron los escritores y el productor Chava Mejía que me quedara porque lo estaba hacienda muy bien y el abogado creció, creció, creció… a tal grado de lo que van a ver aquí en Estados Unidos es que él va a tomar una fuerza impresionante. DM: ¿Crees que de alguna manera el haber estudiado derecho te haya ayudado a enriquecer al personaje y hacerlo crecer de esta manera? RP: Yo creo que el hecho de ser abogado y haber estudiado derecho, sí; pero también, el hecho de que yo veo muchas películas de mafiosos italianos y libros y bueno me encanta todo ese rollo y pues eso me ha ayudado a

enriquecerlo mucho. DM: ¿Cómo recibiste la propuesta de Chava Mejía para participar en esta novela? RP: Pues Chava y yo queríamos trabajar desde hace muchos años, pero yo había estado muy activo con otros productores y como que no me soltaban y se dio el espacio; y aunque era un papel chico lo decidí tomar y el personaje se convirtió en el antagonista principal de la novela. DM: Estás rodeado de un gran elenco, ¿qué significa para ti? RP: Increíble, además con todos me llevo súper bien, son gente divina, nunca ha habido ninguna fricción, estamos muy a gusto. DM: ¿Qué puede esperar la gente de Que Bonito Amor, aquí en Estados Unidos? RP: Se va a poner impresionantemente fuerte la novela cuando la mafia italiana se transporte a México para acabar con Santos, ahí se va a poner la cosa buena… cuando la mafia entre a México. DM: Mándales un mensaje a la gente de KC y Odessa, Midland y West Texas: RP: Un saludo muy grande a toda la gente de KC y Odessa, Midland y West Texas, a toda la gente que tiene identidad latina, todo mi cariño y apoyo a cualquier persona que esté leyendo esto y haya sido separado de su familia, espero que esa reforma migratoria venga pronto y que los latinos puedan vivir en paz, pues han contribuido mucho a la grandeza de este país.

l pasado mes de mayo, se llevó a cabo el “10th Annual Senior Celebration” en el Ector Coliseum de Odessa, Tex., para celebrar a las personas de la tercera edad. Según el informe, los ingresos promedio por hogar de estas madres solteras que son el sostén de sus familias no son ningún motivo de alegría, pues están muy por debajo de los de las madres casadas ($23,000 frente a $80,000). Además de todo esto, casi un tercio de estas madres “que sustentan a sus familias” no tiene trabajo. Unos matrimonios y familias fuertes dan como resultado que sus hijos tengan mayores oportunidades de prosperar. Most – two-thirds, in fact – are single mothers. According to the report, the average household income of these single breadwinner mothers is nothing to cheer about – far below that of married mothers ($23,000 compared to $80,000). It’s also far below the overall average U.S. household income ($57,000 in 2011). On top of this, nearly a third of these “breadwinner” moms aren’t working. Low-income levels and high unemployment among single mothers means they are more likely to be on welfare compared to married-parent families. Data shows that of welfare families with children, approximately three-quarters are headed by a single parent, most of whom are women. Today’s historically high rate of unwed childbearing – more than 40 percent of all children today are born outside marriage – combined with a high divorce rate, contribute to a growing number of households headed by single moms. As the Pew data would suggest – and as other data show – children in single-parent families are more likely to live in poverty. In fact, they’re five times as likely to be poor compared to their peers in marriedparent households. Overall, 71 percent of poor families with children are headed by a single parent. Children not raised in intact families are not only more likely to be poor, but also are less likely to graduate from high school and college, which would help them thrive down the road. They’re also more likely to participate in delinquent behaviors and become single parents themselves. Earnings aren’t the only difference between the married and single mothers, as the Pew report explains: “Compared with all mothers with children under age 18, married mothers who out-earn their husbands are slightly older, disproportionally white and college educated. Single mothers, by contrast, are younger, more likely to be black or Hispanic and less likely to have a college degree.” The differences between these groups mirror the social divide taking place in the United States. As Heritage Foundation expert Robert Rector explains: “The U.S. is steadily separating into a two-caste system with marriage and education as the dividing line. In the high-income third of the population, children are raised by married parents with a college education; in the bottom-income third, children are raised by single parents with a high school degree or less.” That more mothers end up going it alone means that more children are at risk for poverty and other negative outcomes. Strong marriages and families mean children have greater opportunities to thrive. Leaders at every level of society should make efforts to support and strengthen marriage, to promote strong families, communities – and ultimately, a stronger America. n June 7, we watched the Odessa City Little League majors division baseball O championship game at Sherwood Park.

The Southside Giants defeated the West End Marlins 12-2. The winning pitcher was Abraham Rodriquez. Congratulations to the team and coach Mundo Tavarez on winning the city championship. On a side note, the city instructional and minor-league division championships also were won by the Southside Little League district. Congratulations all round.
