law on abortion was introduced for a final vote on the Texas Senate floor. In the end, the Democratic Party kept the Senate from successfully completing the vote. But in Texas, when the cause is just, nothing is over until only one side is left standing. This case is no different. As the clock struck twelve midnight, the vote to settle this question was declared after review to be invalid. But as in war, victory is won only after several battles are fought. This first confrontation, this first battle, served only as an indicator of things to come. The dawn of a new day found the Governor of Texas, Rick Perry, issuing new orders to the State Legislators to meet again on the battlefield of the Capitol by calling for a second session. As both sides convened once again, both the House and Senate immediately called for a recess until the 9th of July, which should give each side ample time to prepare their battle plans. Already supporters, too, from both sides of the issue, have been busy bringing in additional personnel from all 2>

So which part of Obamacare works, then? another major part of it. Just before the Independence Day (July 4) celebration, news broke that the administration is delaying the employer mandate, which would force businesses with 50 or more full-time workers to provide governmentapproved insurance, until 2015. When Obamacare was engineered, the administration and its allies in Congress made sure the major parts affecting all Americans would be delayed until after the 2012 presidential election. Now, however, the Obama administration is delaying one of the best-known elements of Obamacare until after the 2014 midterm congressional elections. Douglas Holtz-Eakin, the former director of the Congressional Budget Office, described the announcement as “deviously brilliant,” even as Valerie Jarrett, Obama’s senior adviser, assured people this merely means the administration is “listening” to

If you listen to one side, it is the taking away from the woman the right to determine if she wishes to have an abortion. The other side sees this as establishing a protective right to the unborn. However, the law is supportive of both; it adds protections for the unborn and the woman. How? By requiring that clinics and medical professionals upgrade their facilities to the same level required for emergency room care. Under this law, oversight by strict regulations of medical professionals would ensure that safeguards would be in place to protect the mother and the unborn. It is more complex than that, but in the end this is all the law will do, no more and nothing less.

or some time know I have been F thinking on how America will look like for young Americans in the future.

I am convinced that the future of young Americans depends on their understanding American principles. Some will say, “what are American principles?” that wide spread ignorance of American history is but one of the most recognized symptom of the troubling decline in young Americans knowledge of fundamental principles. We face an education system that upholds mediocrity in the name of believing in an ever-expanding and centralized government, free from constitutional limits; judges’ openly interpreting laws and shaping society based on pop-philosophy, rather than serious judicial prudence; and growing confusion over America’s legitimate role in the world. At the root of all these problems is a widespread doubt about the core principles that define America and ought to inform our politics and policy. As the moral and ethical challenges occurs from the growing entitlement mentality that is currently undermining our democratic system as more Americans become dependent on the government and ignore real priorities for growth that are automatically obstructed. When the government decides how many ounces in soft drink, we are allowed to drink, or mandates healthcare and then calls it a tax. A Republican Leader, Martin Luther King Jr. (Yes a Republican) believed in the critical importance of faith and moral character. He spoke of self-improvement and self-help in both moral and practical terms. He believed in work ethic and thrift and spoke against crime and disorderly conduct. In stark contrast to modern liberalism’s militant secularism, King explicitly ground his efforts in the Christian tradition. King believed that churches and other faith-based associations were necessary for a grassroots revival of American culture. “Services to their communities, country, and each other” Our Young must also assume a greater role for their foreseeable retirement needs through personal savings and insurance. These urgent steps will ensure a fiscally sustainable future and better stewardship for younger generations. The only conclusion I arrive to, is to orient Young American towards the First Principles of our founders. To reshape thinking, that reflects our constitutional framework of limited government. To unify and revive a robust Young conservatism around, and in defense of, these core principles. To provide the next generation of Young Leaders with a strong foundation for learning and promoting our nation is founding principles. President John F. Kennedy (Demarcate) Said “My fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country.” Most important we need to purge our liberal academia educators that like to paint America in a negative way but, rather teach them that though America is imperfect it continues to strive for what is right. Do not use the race card when this generation of America rights one of those imperfections by electing its first Black President. Yes, my young Americans you stand at this time in our History to shape the future of this Great United States of America.

Heritage expert Robert Moffit listed only a few of the recent stops in this train wreck’s path when he wrote the following: “Last year, Health and Human Services Secretary Katherine Sebelius announced her department could not implement the longterm care component of Obamacare. Financially, she said, it was simply not workable. And (in April) Sebelius announced that she was postponing a program designed to allow small businesses to offer more than one plan for their workers. Meanwhile, more than half the states have declined to set up a ‘health insurance exchange’ under the burdensome terms and conditions of the law, leaving it to Washington to do it for them.” The pre-Independence Day news makes the countdown to the health insurance exchanges — which are supposed to open on Oct. 1 — all the more interesting. Will more employers drop coverage, telling workers they’ll be able to get coverage through the exchanges? Will the exchanges work? Don’t forget that the individual mandate still kicks in on Jan. 1, 2014. All Americans will have to buy government-approved health insurance or pay a fine. And the employer mandate won’t be there to force employers to provide it. Though the administration is running amok, Congress can do something to rein it in. As Heritage expert Chris Jacobs wrote recently: “It is hard to understate the impact of today’s devastating admission from the administration that, after three years, it still cannot implement Obamacare without strangling businesses in red tape and destroying American jobs. l gobernador del estado, César Duarte aseguró que los cambios climáticos en el estado de Chihuahua, han sido evidentes durante los últimos años; mismos que se pueden observar en la sequía y en las temperaturas congelantes durante el tiempo de frío. Aseguró que tras el último registro de lluvias hasta el mes de junio, se puede ver con claridad como Ojinaga ha sido el municipio más llovido con 78.2 milímetros y este se encuentra seguido por Coyame con 55.8 milímetros. Asimismo, dijo que San Francisco de Borja que es una región que capta mucha agua durante el tiempo de lluvias, en esta ocasión no se han registrado grandes cantidades de agua. En este sentido, dijo que también se percataron de algunos fenómenos como Casas Grandes, Janos y Ascensión donde últimamente se registraron lluvias y que anteriormente no contaban con este clima. Sin embargo las precipitaciones no han representado una mayor captación de agua en los pozos de la región, los cuales están totalmente abatidos. La región de Ojinaga, Manuel Benavides y Coyame enfrenta la peor sequía en 45 años, por lo que se tomó la decisión de que las poblaciones cercanas al Río Conchos sean abastecidas con el agua de la corriente, la cual deberá ser purificada para poder ser utilizada para el consumo humano. Se espera que las precipitaciones se generalicen en el próximo mes, para que exista la recuperación de los mantos subterráneos, de lo contrario los habitantes deberán ser abastecidos con pipas, pero se corre el riego de que el agua se agote.

According to Duarte, the changes have been noticed in the drought and the freezing temperatures during the cold season. The governor also discussed the amounts of rainfall various parts of the state have received. After the recording of the rainfall levels for the month of June, Ojinaga is the municipality that has received the most rain during the rainy season with 78.2 mm, followed by Coyame with 55.8 mm. Additionally, Duarte said that San Francisco de Borja, an area that receives considerable rainfall during the rainy season, hasn’t registered large amounts of water this season. On the other hand, he pointed out that places such as Casas Grandes, Janos and Ascension – which had not counted on rainy weather – have received rainfall. But rainfall has not led to a greater uptake of water in the wells in the region, which are fully depleted. Ojinaga, Manuel Benavides and Coyame are facing the worst drought in 45 years. Esto sin duda no implica que no pueda existir armonía entre los dos grupos. De hecho, el Presidente de los Católicos 7" Americanos por la Libertad Religiosa dijo en respuesta a las declaraciones del Presidente: “La agenda secular y anticonfesional del Presidente estuvo a la vista de todos cuando les dijo a los jóvenes de Irlanda del Norte que las escuelas católicas son divisivas y que son un obstáculo para la paz”. Con más del 35% de los católicos en Estados Unidos, la comunidad hispana se debería sentir ofendida por las declaraciones del presidente Obama. El Presidente debería reconocer que para muchos hispanos en este país, la fe católica y sus enseñanzas son muy importantes y forman la base de cómo muchos padres quieran educar a sus hijos. or many of us, faith is more than a saying. For many of us, faith is the foundation F of our culture and way of being. That’s why

those of us who are parents strive to be able to send our children to Christian schools. We do this for several reasons, including the fact that we want our children to receive a good education that includes the important teachings of our church. It’s our right. It’s too bad that, for President Obama, Catholic schools are places that “create separation and impede cooperation.” I’m not exaggerating. This is what President Obama said in Ireland during his recent tour of Europe. According to the president: “If the people remain divided – if the Catholics have their own schools and buildings and Protestants have theirs, if we cannot see a reflection of ourselves in each other and we allow fear and resentment to harden – this also encourages division and discourages cooperation.” It’s unfortunate the president didn’t know of the important theological differences between Protestants and Catholics and doesn’t respect the feelings of each family when it’s time to decide which school best suits the family. This doesn’t mean there cannot be harmony between the two groups. In fact, the president of the American Catholics for Religious Freedom said in response to the president’s declarations: “The secular and anti-confessional agenda of the president was in display for all when he told the young people of Northern Ireland that Catholic schools are divisive and are an obstacle to peace.” With the Hispanic community making up more than 35 percent of U.S. Catholics, we Hispanics should feel offended by President Obama’s statements. The president should recognize that, for many Hispanics in this country, the Catholic faith and its teachings are important and form the basis of how many parents want to educate their children. Everyone should be free to choose between schools that are public, semi-private, private or religious. And if we decide to put our children in a Catholic school, we shouldn’t have to feel that we create division, as President Obama has wrongfully stated.

It also outlines the process for contesting charges made to your account. The FCBA protection applies only to “open-end” credit account transactions, those involving credit cards or revolving charges (example: department store accounts). It doesn’t cover installment contracts you repay on a fixed schedule, such as car loans. Billing errors covered by the FCBA include the following: *Fraudulent or unauthorized use of your credit card, whether it was stolen or merchants have charged unapproved items to your account. *Charges that list the wrong date or amount. *Charges for goods or services you didn’t accept or that weren’t delivered as agreed. *Math errors, such as being charged twice for a transaction. *Failure to post payments or other credits.

Review all billing statements carefully upon receipt because in order to be covered under FCBA rules, most disputed transactions must be reported within 60 days of the statement date on which the error appeared. To dispute a transaction, first, try to resolve the dispute directly with the merchant. If that doesn’t work, you can escalate the process by filing a written report with your credit card issuer within the 60-day window. The card issuer is then obligated to investigate the dispute on your behalf. The issuer must acknowledge your complaint, in writing, within 30 days of receipt and resolve the dispute with the merchant within two billing cycles, but not more than 90 days. Send your letter via certified mail to the card issuer’s billing inquiry address, not the payment address. Include your name, address, account number and a description of the billing error. Include copies of sales slips or other documents that support your position. According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), you may withhold payment of the disputed amount and related charges during the investigation. Many card issuers may voluntarily remove the charge until the matter is resolved. If it turns out your bill contains a mistake, the creditor must explain, in writing, the corrections that’ll be made. In addition to crediting your account, the creditor must remove all finance charges, late fees or other charges related to the error. However, if the issuer’s investigation determines you owe part of or the entire disputed amount, the issuer must promptly provide you with a written explanation. If you disagree with the investigation’s results, you may further dispute your claim with the creditor, as outlined by the FTC at www.consumer. ftc.gov/articles/0219-fair-credit-billing. If you believe a creditor has violated the FCBA, you may file a complaint with the FTC or sue the creditor in court.

Here are three key things I’ve learned that hopefully will help the next person with a great business idea: *Have the right amount of cash: I struggled with keeping my business afloat, because I didn’t have the right amount of cash. Be prepared by saving from one to two years’ worth of business expenses. Those savings should help out while the business gets going. *Don’t go for the big loan at the start of the business: Luckily I avoided that, but a lot of small businesses owners haven’t. Bethany Laurence, a financial law expert who deals in a lot of bankruptcy cases, points out: “Because these business owners start off owing so much money, they feel pressured to make a profit immediately – and they may have to make high monthly payments on the loans.” The high monthly payments will start hurting the profits the business starts to bring in. Avoiding the loan is a great long-term reward. *Have the right cash flow: According to the National Federation of Independent Business, 30 percent of businesses’ cash flow problems are because of the difficulty of collecting on bills owed to them. That makes sense. At my old job, it didn’t matter if the company got paid for the job I performed. Why? Well, because I got paid regardless of the financial outcome the company had with its customers. Knowing how to do secure contracts and the proper steps on collecting bills is key to a new business success. To recap remember the three keys: 1. Have the right amount of cash; 2. Don’t go for the big loan at the start of the business; and 3. Have the right cash flow.

Desde 1983, cuando estuvo en Moscú, Fariñas no salía de Cuba. Ahora lo pudo hacer debido a una nueva ley que permite la salida a aquellos que consiguen una visa de visita. “Lo que más me ha impactado es la brecha tecnológica entre mi país” y el resto del mundo, me dijo durante una entrevista en Miami. “‘Cuba está en el siglo 17”. Literal y político: “Carretones de caballo en el interior y todas las estructuras destruidas”, es como Fariñas me describió la Cuba actual. Y más de medio siglo con una férrea y represiva dictadura. ¿Por qué en este 2013, cuando muchas naciones han dejado de tener dictaduras, Cuba sigue teniendo una brutal? Por tres razones, me explicó Fariñas: “La falta de unidad dentro de la oposición, el aferramiento de los gobernantes, y la indiferencia y complicidad de muchos gobiernos del mundo”. Fariñas es muy incómodo para el régimen de la Habana porque conoce al monstruo desde dentro. Es el “Coco” de los Castro. Y él está dispuesto a ser uno de esos mártires, me confirmó el ganador del Premio Sajarov, otorgado a defensores de los derechos humanos, y que por fin pudo recibir en Francia tres años después. “Si es necesario, sí”. Fariñas cree que hay que causar una conmoción a nivel internacional para que ael gobierno castrista se resquebraje. “Hubo momentos en que el mundo no escuchaba”, reflexionó. “Hoy escuchan. Pero lo que tiene que haber es una conmoción”. ¿Y esa conmoción la podrías lograr tú con otra huelga de hambre?, le pregunte. “Yo pienso que si el gobierno cubano deja morir a un Premio Sajarov, le causaría un daño al gobierno y tendría que hacer concesiones”, me respondió. Y de pronto, como si me entrara un escalofrío, me doy cuenta que estoy frente a un hombre que ha tomado la decisión de morir por la democracia en Cuba. Esta, pienso, puede ser la última vez que vea a Fariñas. Nunca dejan de sorprenderme los hombres y las mujeres que están dispuestos a morir por defender sus ideas. Son pocos y miran distinto al resto de los mortales, como si vieran dentro del alma. El sabe que criticar al régimen cubano en el extranjero puede tener terribles consecuencias para él y para sus hijas, Haisa, de 18 años, y Diosángeles, de 11. “Nos pueden asesinar en cualquier momento”, me dijo sin subir la voz y sin emoción, como si hubiera repetido esa frase un millón de veces. Pero Fariñas no quiere que su vida (ni su muerte) sea en vano. Antes de despedirme le digo que me parece extraordinario que esté dispuesto a dar su vida por su país. “Esa es su opinión”, me dijo respetuoso. “Pero nosotros consideramos que defender a la patria no es nada extraordinario”. Éste, concluyo mientras lo veo irse lentamente, es un hombre que ya decidió morir por Cuba.

Farinas believes that, if he loses his life in an act of protest, he might finally bring down the Castro dictatorship after 54 years in power – or at least convince other Cubans to rise up against it. His relentless efforts to bring attention to the Communist regime’s oppressive rule and its imprisonment of political opponents, usually by embarking on hunger strikes himself, have gained the world’s attention – and the Cuban government’s. “With me, there is no middle ground,” he told me during a recent interview in Miami (the Cuban government granted him a travel visa recently, after many years of rejections). “I go on a hunger strike when the government commits an inhuman act. That’s when I take the self-destructive measures, which put the government up against a wall.” Farinas is one of the Cuban regime’s worst nightmares: a political activist who knows the monster’s weaknesses from having worked within the system. As a young man, Farinas was a member of the Young Communists Union and enlisted in the Cuban army. He was wounded in 1980 during Cuba’s military intervention in Angola. Later, he went to the Soviet Union to receive training as a military officer. He was a trusted supporter of Fidel Castro’s government until 1989, when he broke ties with the Communists and protested the execution of Gen. Arnaldo Ochoa, who had been convicted of conspiring to traffic drugs to the United States and was sentenced to death by a firing squad. Afterward, Farinas worked as a psychologist at a Havana hospital. In 1995, he accused the hospital’s director of corruption and reported her to the police, but in a Kafkaesque turn of events, the police arrested Farinas and kept him in jail for 20 months. It was his first arrest. Many more followed. Altogether, Farinas has spent more than a decade behind bars. The first time Farinas went on hunger strike was in 1997, after he had been arrested for supporting a group of political dissidents in the Cuban city of Santa Clara. Since then, he has gone on another 22 hunger strikes, which has taken a toll on his health. In 2010, while fasting to protest the death of Orlando Zapata – a political dissident who died in prison after refusing to eat for more than 80 days – Farinas suffered a thrombosis on the left side of his neck, but that hasn’t deterred him from speaking out against political oppression in Cuba. He’s a spokesman for the Patriotic Union of Cuba, a political opposition group that claims it has about 6,000 members on the island. During our interview, Farinas said he plans to return to Cuba by mid-July – and staying in the United States isn’t an option. “I respect my brothers who are here,” he said. “But in this historical moment, a group of brothers and sisters must be fighting in Cuba.” Farinas once said, referring to his hunger strikes, that there are moments in history when martyrs are necessary to bring about change. I asked him if he was willing to die for his cause. “If it is necessary, I will,” he said. Farinas recently picked up the Sakharov Prize in France, which is awarded to human rights advocates every year. He actually won the prize in 2010, but hadn’t left Cuba since 1983. I asked him what surprised him about the outside world. “What has shocked me the most is the technological gap,” he said. “Cuba is still in the 17th century.” In the 21st century, after so many other nations have overthrown authoritarian regimes, why is such a brutal and repressive dictatorship able to hold onto power in Cuba? According to Farinas, there are three reasons: “A lack of unity within the opposition, the stubbornness of leaders and the indifference, even complicity, of many world governments.” Farinas believes the Castro government won’t crack unless there’s a large-scale “commotion.” I asked if that commotion could be achieved by another hunger strike. “I believe that if the Cuban regime were to let a Sakharov laureate die, that would harm the government – and it would have to make concessions,” he said. I realized this might be the last time I would see Farinas. He knows that he and his two daughters, Haisa, 18, and Diosangeles, 11, might face terrible consequences for criticizing the Cuban regime abroad, yet he refuses to be silenced. “They might kill us at any moment,” he said, without raising his voice or showing any emotion, as if he had repeated that phrase a million times. As the interview was ending, I told Farinas that I found his willingness to die for his country to be astonishing. “That is your opinion,” he said, respectfully. “But we consider nothing extraordinary about defending your fatherland.”

Bates, Dorothy “Dot” Kelley Dorothy “Dot” Kelley Bates, 88, died on June 14 in Boerne. She was born on Nov. 17, 1924, in Port Neches to Rev. Robert Lee Herring and Carrie Carr Herring. In 1942, she graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Port Arthur. She was an Eastern Star member for 40 years. She was Beta Sigma Phi and was crowned Valentine Queen in 1961 in McCamey. In 1962, she moved to Odessa. She worked for Key, Rhodes & Jenkins until becoming a secretary in 1963 at the National Bank of Odessa, where she worked for 21 years, retiring as assistant vice president. On Feb. 26, 1943, she married Leon Ferrell in Port Acres, with her father performing the ceremony. Leon was shot down on Jan. 17, 1945, over Hamburg, Germany. The couple had one son, Leon “Lonnie” Ferrell Jr., who preceded her in death. In 1963, she married Coach Euwell D. Kelley of Monahans, Texas. He died in November 1994 after 32 years of marriage. In January 2002, she married Dennis “Mooch” Bates of Odessa. He died in the spring of 2004. Survivors include her brother, Brig. Gen. Robert L. Herring (husband of Mary); niece, Cindy Bates Muir; grandniece, Lauren Bates; granddaughter, Stephanie Brown (wife of Robert); grandson, Jason Ferrell; and two great-grandchildren, Chaz Andrew Ferrell and Holden Chay Brown.

Bratton, Allen Bob Bob Allen Bratton, 85, of Odessa died on June 9 in Crane. He was born on Dec. 1, 1927, in Floydada to Robbie and Arthur Bratton. They preceded him in death, as did his sister, Janette Lackey. He graduated from high school in Floydada. He eventually made his career working in the oil fields. He was a member of Highland United Methodist Church in Odessa. He married Nelda Huckabee

on Sept. 28, 1948. She survives. Other survivors include his daughter, Vicky Bratton; sons, Allen Bratton and Barry Bratton (husband of Lori); grandchildren, Kelly Bearman, Robert Bratton, Jennifer Bratton, Paul Mooney, Jessica Bolton, Daniel Bratton, Marissa Bratton, Alyssa Bratton and Lindsey LaRoque; and four great-grandchildren.

Biddy, Leola Mae Leola Mae Biddy, 77, of Odessa died on June 21. She was born on May 2, 1936, in Portales, N.M., to William Perry Bunch and Stella Mae Owens Bunch. They preceded her in death, as did her husband, Robert Henry Biddy Jr.; two sisters, Leanora Bunch and Kathleen Smith; a brother-in-law, Johnny Smith; and a sister-in-law, Betty Bunch. She was a longtime Odessa resident, working for many years as a waitress. On Nov. 25, 1957, she married Robert Henry Biddy Jr. They were married until his death in 1972. Survivors include her daughter, Kay Canales (wife of Sisto); son, Robert Henry Biddy III (husband of Julia); daughter, Paula Doss (bride-to-be of Steve Eades); daughter, Pamela Albritton (wife of Ronny); and son, Roger Biddy, all of Odessa. Other survivors include 12 grandchildren, Billy Wadle (husband of Toni), Chris Wadle (husband of Carrie), Melinda Wadle Chavez (wife of Reggie), Brittany Biddy, Robert Henry Biddy IV, Danielle Biddy, Tiffany Biddy, Jeffery Dughman, David Dughman, Brian Dughman, Ashley Albritton Davis (wife of Jordan) and Shelby Albritton; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Coffman, Edith Edith Coffman, 96, died on June 28. She was born on Jan. 1, 1917, to Milton and Polly Smith of Kiblah, Ark. She grew up in Arkansas and Louisiana with her two older brothers and older sister. She married young and raised three young children through the end of the Great Depression and World War II. After that she met and married the love of her life, T.G. (Glenn) Coffman and moved to Odessa with her three children. Another child was born to complete the family. Her places of employment included Basin Music Center and Cloth World. She attended Eisenhower Church of Christ and was a member of Gardendale Church of Christ at the time of her death. She loved her children, Ronald Crain (husband of Pat); Rhuine McDonald (wife of Neil); Gary Crain (husband of Dianna); and Mike Coffman. Her legacy and joys include her 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson, Tanner.

Crone, Hazel L. Hazel L. Crone, 96, died on June 17. She was born on July 14, 1916, in Hollis, Okla., to Goldie and Frank Lockwood. They preceded her in death, as did her husband, L.D. Crone; two sisters, Maudie Lockwood and Lola Palmer of Amarillo; and two brothers, Dalton Lockwood and Milton Lockwood of Altus, Okla. She operated an in-home child daycare center for more than 40 years. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church and CrossRoads Fellowship for 43 years. She had lived in Odessa since 1959. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Bolden and Diana Allen, both of Odessa; three grandchildren Larry Bolden and Dr. Edward Allen of Odessa, and Chloe Allen of Austin; one great-grandchild, Krysten Bolden of Odessa; one brother, James Lockwood of Altus; many nieces and nephews; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

Whitley of Lovington, N.M.; daughter, Shari Gardenhire of Emory; and his beloved dogs, Katie and Tubby. He was raised by his grandparents. He was an active volunteer with Citizens on Patrol. Glassock, Roy “Brownie” Brown Roy Brown “Brownie” Glasscock, 88, of Odessa died on June 14. He was born on May 10, 1925, to Stacy Pinkney and Dolly Stokes Glasscock in Sonora. They preceded him in death, as did his wife, Barbara Glassock; three brothers, Jamie, Melvin and Hayden “Chinky”; two sisters, Ernestine and Alma Lou; and a son, Keith Hardin. He became a truck driver when was a teen-ager and stopped driving trucks when he was 80 years old. He married Barbara Glasscock on April 7, 1962. They were married for 26 years until her death. Survivors include her children, Roxie Garner (wife of Mike) of Poteau, Okla.; Johnny Glasscock (husband of Teri) of Desert Hot Springs, Calif.; Sally Griffith (wife of Buddy) of Sumter, S.C.; Roy Glasscock of Odessa; Teresa Ninov (wife of Mike) of Syracuse, Utah; Charlotte Tongate (wife of Jim) of Early; Kenneth Hardin of Odessa; and Dixie Mercy (wife of Jim) of Cleburne. Other survivors include 32 grandchildren, and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Krugman, Anita Anita Krugman, 89, died on June 28 in Odessa. She was born on May 24, 1942, in Groesbeck to Ernest and Winnie Gill. She attended Waco High School. On Feb. 21, 1942, she married Charles Krugman Jr. in Waco. They founded Krugman Camper Sales in 1966. He preceded her in death, as did a son, David Krugman. Survivors include her sons, Charles W. Krugman (husband of Casandra) of Midland, and Micheal D. Krugman (husband of Pamela) of Breckenridge, Colo. Other survivors include her grandchildren, Charles J. Krugman and Leslie K. Krugman, both of Dayton; Molly T. Krugman and Matthew T. Krugman, both of Breckenridge, Colo.; and great-grand children, Amber, Kirstyn and Shelby Krugman.

Lopez, Margarito C. Sr. Margarito C. Lopez Sr., 79, died on June 28 in Odessa. He was born on June 2, 1934, in La Esparanza to Manuel and Victoria Lopez. They preceded him in death, as did his brothers, Jose, Victor, Inez and Manuel Lopez; and sister, Rita Galindo. Survivors include his wife, Rafaela C. Lopez; children, Oscar Lopez (husband of Linda), Terri Vasquez, Maria L. Olivas, Tanya Laynette Tanya Laynette Olivas, 51, died on June 29. She was born on Sept. 14, 1961, in Odessa to Pedro Quintela and Dolores Ybarra Quintela. Her mother survives. She was a nursing assistant for many years. Her last job was office manager at Cris Wray State Farm, where they called her “Mamma Bear.” On June 1, 1982, she married Porfirio Olivas. He survives of the home. Other survivors include her children, Desiree Aguilar (wife of Manuel Aguilar), Chesiree Olivas and Elijah Olivas, all of Odessa; brothers, Rudy Portillo, Luis Portillo, Manuel Portillo, Pete Quintela and Joe Quintela; sister, Sonya Chacon; and grandsons, Josiah and Nehemiah Aguilar.

Pando, Velma Sanchez Velma Sanchez Pando, 54, of Odessa died on June 26 in Odessa. She was born on Aug. 2, 1958, in Odessa to Cipriano Sanchez and Bernarda Gonzales Sanchez. Her father preceded her in death, as did her motherin-law, Emma Pando; and her aunt Maria. She grew up in Odessa and went to grade school here. She graduated from Ysletta High School in El Paso and graduated from University of Texas Permian Basin with a bachelor’s degree. She was an educator for 17 years for Ector County Independent School District and MISD. Survivors include her husband, Gustavo P. Pando; son, Gus Pando II; daughter, AnnMarie Pando; and mother, Bernarda Sanchez, all of Odessa. Other survivors include her siblings, Olga Sanchez of El Paso, Robert and Miguel Sanchez of Odessa, Rosemary S. Andros of San Angelo, Cecilia Sanchez of Odessa; father-in-law, Alonzo Pando Sr. of Kermit; brother-in-law, Alonzo Pando Jr. of El Paso; and sister-in-law, Corinna Pando Garcia of Wink.

Benjamine Corlun B.C. “Benny” Ridener, 85, of Odessa died on June 10 in Odessa. He was born on July 15, 1927, in Pershing, Okla., to Fred Ridener and Mary Margaret Corbin Ridener. They preceded him in death, as did his wife, Alice “Marie” Cheek Ridener;

siblings, Juanita Bell Ridener and Mary “Arlene” Rhodes; and greatgrandchildren, Jayden Thomas Ridener and Benjamine George Ellis. He went to school in Blackburn, Okla. He served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged. Benny married Alice “Marie” Cheek on May 26, 1951, in Maysville, Okla. He worked as a field service representative in the oil and gas compression industry. He retired in 1995 from Cooper Energy Services. Survivors include his children, Sherry Ellis (wife of Jimmy) of Odessa and Robert “Bob” F. Ridener (husband of Pamela), all of Odessa. Other survivors include his grandchildren, Tricia Ridener Plumley (wife of Aaron) of Amarillo; Christopher A. Ellis of Odessa; Joshua C. Ridener (husband of Angela) of Pampa; Amanda R. Ridener of Lubbock; Casey Ellis (husband of Sheena) of Ridgecrest, Calif.; Linda Brown of Odessa; and Gus Hagopoylos of Lubbock. Riley, Caroll Sue Caroll Sue Riley, 82, died on June 23 at home in Odessa. She was born on March 25, 1931, in Sapulpa, Okla., to Carl George and Elva Gladys Anduss. When she was young, she and her family moved to Crane County, where they lived in the heart of the Sandhills at the Phillips Petroleum Crane Water Station and attended Crane schools. After moving to Goldsmith, she attended Odessa High School, where she played clarinet in the band. She later attended Odessa College, where she studied medical transcription and worked at Midland Memorial Hospital. On July 3, 1948, she married W. T. “Dub” Riley at the Goldsmith Methodist Church. He survives. Other survivors include three children, Deana Caroll Riley and Bruce Alan Riley, both of Midland; and Ronald Dale Riley (husband of Charlotte Riley) of Lubbock. He was born on July 9, 1961, in Glendale, Calif., to Delmer Franklin Scott and Patty J. Rogers Scott. His father preceded him in death. On June 26, 2009, he moved to Odessa and worked as a handyman, doing odd jobs. Survivors include his mother, also of Odessa; brothers, Kyle Smith of Dallas and Michael Smith of Carencro, La.; and sister, Alisa Smith, also of Carencro, La.

Von Hollen, Irene Helen Irene Rollman von Hollen 74, of Odessa died on June 20 in Odessa. She was born Irene Helen Laffery on June 25, 1938, to George and Mary (Scheideman) Laffery in Clay Center, Kan. They preceded her in death, as did two brothers, George Jr. and LeRoy Laffery. She was raised, and attended schools and church in Clay Center. In February 1980, she moved to Odessa and worked for Marklyn Controls, Delta X, Kaiser, Ameripol and Midco Machine until her retirement. She was a devout Christian and involved in various activities at Redeemer Lutheran Church and was involved in the West Texas Kennel Club. In 1965, she married Harold Rollman. They divorced. On Oct. 11, 1997, she married David von Hollen. He survives at home. Other survivors include her brother Bruce Laffery (husband of Lanita) of Clay Center; three children, Bonnie Girard of Salina, Kan., Don Girard (husband of Debbie) of Omaha, Neb., and J.R. Rollman of Odessa; daughter-in-law, Brinda Rollman of Odessa; stepson, Don von Hollen (husband of Melissa) of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; and stepdaughter, Heidi von Hollen of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, Canada. She also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren, Cristian, Destany, Kaiya, C.J., Serenity, Faith, Hope and Keiton; and many nieces and nephews. She was born on Dec. 25, 1936, in Mexico to Gaspar and Aurelia (Lopez) Delgado. Her husband, Ermilo Ramirez, preceded her in death. Survivors include her sons, Raul Ramirez of Midland, Roberto Ramirez of Odessa, Oscar Ramirez of Midland, Ezequiel Ramirez of Odessa, and Gerardo Ramirez and Rogelio Ramirez, both of Midland; daughters, Maria Rodriguez, Beatriz Jaramillo and Norma Uticia Ramirez, all of Midland; 27 grandchildren; and 15 greatgrandchildren.

Stewart Erma Jo Erma Jo Beckwith Stewart, 90, of Odessa died on July 1. She was with her daughter in Meridian, Miss., at the time of her death. She was born on March 13, 1923, to Henry and Ethel Richardson Beckwith of Cotulla. She later moved to San Antonio and stayed there until receiving her high school diploma. She later attended and graduated from MeHarry Medical College, School of Nursing in Nashville, Tenn., with an R.N. degree. After moving to Odessa from Greenville, she became an active and instrumental member of the Business Women’s Club. She also was among the founders of the Phyllis Wheatley Day Care Center. With her husband of 54 years, Dr. Wheatley C. Stewart, she served the medical needs of the citizens of Odessa from 1948 until 1998. He preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter, Ethel Stewart Beasley, M.D., of Meridian, Miss.; and one son, Luther Henry Stewart, M.D. (husband of Genevieve), of Baton Rouge, La. Other survivors include five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Urias Maria Dolores Maria Dolores Urias, 68, of Odessa died on July 2 at her residence. She was born on Jan. 12, 1945, in Marfa to Fernando and Sabina (Herrera) Sosa. They preceded her in death. Sur vivors include her husband, Florentino Urias Sr. of Odessa; sons, Florentino S. Urias Jr. of Mustang, Okla., and Luis Urias of Odessa; daughter, Maria Cristina Urias Mancha of Odessa; sister, Lupe Soza Brito of Presidio; mother-in-law, Manuela G. Urias; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Guadalupe Ramirez, 68, of Odessa died on June 30 at Hospice House. He was born on Jan. 29, 1945, in Marfa to Guadalupe and Paula (Estrada) Ramirez. They preceded him in death, as did a brother, Sammy Ramirez; and his sisters, Ida Rivera and Irene Bernard. He served God and his community through New Life and Kairos prison ministries, the Cursillo movement, St. Mary’s bereavement and his friends at

Southside Senior Citizen Center. Survivors include his wife, Monica Lopez Ramirez of Odessa; sons, Robert Ramirez of Midland, and Paul and Ralph Ramirez, both of Odessa; daughters, Lena Gomez (wife of Javier) of Midland and Morena Ramirez of Odessa; brother, Michael Ramirez (husband of Glenda) of Cleburne; nine grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; five nephews; and six nieces.

Me encanta la comida casera de mi abuela Martha, su pollo y papas fritas. Recientemente terminé mi último año de t-ball y empecé el aprendizaje de béisbol para el verano. Juego en un equipo mixto y soy la única chica. También estoy involucrada con las Girls Scouts y toco el violín y participo en danza en mi escuela. Mi héroe es mi papi. No puedo estar sin él. Me fascina bailar y estar con él, sin importar nada. Él es mi príncipe. Cuando crezca quiero ser veterinaria. Adoro a los animales y quiero recoger todas las camadas.

que salió a la venta el pasado 25 de junio ha logrado la colocación de varios sencillos en los primeros lugares de popularidad. Day 1 y Be My Baby han abierto gran camino a esta americana con raíces dominicanas que se siente orgullosa de poder dar voz a una generación. En entrevista para Dos Mundos, Leslie Grace nos habló de su incursión al mundo artístico y de sus planes. Dos Mundos: Platícame un poco de ti, y cómo te iniciaste en la música. Leslie Grace: Desde muy pequeña siempre tuve inclinación hacia la música, en mi casa siempre había música. Cuando tenía 6 años, mi mamá me preguntó qué quería ser de grande y le dije que yo quería ser cantante. Ella me miró como… tú no sabes cantar y se rieron de mí; pero le dije te voy a enseñar que de verdad lo quiero hacer. Entonces un día en la escuela una maestra me vio escribiendo una canción y me preguntó que estaba haciendo y yo le contesté que era una canción y me dijo, ‘cántasela a la clase” y lo hice. Ella me mandó con la directora que me hizo cantar a toda la escuela entera. Después de ahí, mi madre y mi padre dijeron esto no es broma, ella lo quiere hacer y ellos decidieron apoyarme. Así que a los 14 años hice mi primera producción, que fue la primera vez que grabé en un estudio y ese disco fue uno cristiano y de verdad ahí fue un tiempo de vida en el que estaba entendiendo quién era yo y estaba aprendiendo como usar mi talento; y todo el trabajo de entrenamiento valió la pena para saber cómo vivir el futuro que ahora estoy viviendo. Cuando conocí a Sergio George hicimos historia con una canción y después de ahí he seguido con la canción ‘Be My Baby’, parte de mi álbum que salió el 25 de junio. DM: Platícanos de tu álbum. LG: Tiene un poco de todo porque yo soy un poco de todo, nacida de padres dominicanos en Nueva York, creciendo aquí en Estados Unidos pero en una casa hispana. Allá afuera hay una generación que es como yo, reflejan esa mezcla, las dos culturas. Mi música es eso, refleja ambas cosas, va a tener mis raíces latinas, las canciones

tienen una influencia entre bachata, pop y R&B. Hay canciones sólo en español, sólo en inglés, otras en spanglish; y hay otras que son techno-pop. Por eso digo que verán un lado de mí que no han visto. Yo creo que a la gente le va a gustar porque hay un poquito de todo para cada gusto. DM: ¿Cómo te has sentido con la aceptación que el público ha tenido de todas tus canciones? LG: Me siento muy bien. Sabes que en las redes sociales siempre estoy al pendiente de lo que me dice la gente, me dicen mis fans, de cómo se sienten con cada canción que lanzo y las han aceptado muy bien. Tengo seguidores que me siguen en todo lo que hago. En verdad me siento muy honrada por poder ser una voz de mi generación. Es un honor que la gente me mire así y que pueda expresarme a través de mi música y lograr inspiración. Y bueno, ése es mi trabajo, poder inspirar a la gente que oye mi voz. Ha sido un camino largo pero tenemos mucho más que caminar. DM: ¿Tienes alguna canción favorita? LG: Sí, tengo unas cuantas porque cada una tiene su historia, pero creo que mi favorita es una canción que se llama Hoy que habla de una situación emocional, de cuando necesitas a alguien. Creo que cuando la escuchen les va a llenar mucho. Esa canción la escribí con un amigo que se llama Israel Mercedes y es una que cuando la canto la gente se queda ¡wow! porque es una canción con mucha emoción. DM: ¿Cómo te sientes de la comparación que se ha hecho con Prince Royce? LG: Me siento muy honrada, es un honor que me comparen con él. Tenemos mucho en común, somos de padres dominicanos, nacidos en Bronx y ahora vivimos aquí. Somos parte de esa generación que refleja esa mezcla, entonces nuestra música refleja nuestra crianza, raíces. Él es un muchacho que trabaja muy fuerte, muy humilde y que me ha dado algunos consejos, en verdad me siento honrada. DM: Mándale un mensaje a la gente de KC. LG: Claro que sí, a toda la gente de KC gracias por apoyarme, seguirme. El equipo Jaish SC de la Liga de Fútbol de Qatar anunció en su página oficial la llegada del delantero ecuatoriano Christian Benítez, quien firmó un contrato por las próximas tres temporadas. “La junta directiva informa que existe un acuerdo formal con el Club América para hacerse de los servicios del delantero ecuatoriano Christian Benítez, para reforzar al equipo en la próxima temporada 2013-2014”, informó.
