n Sunday (Nov. 11), millions of AmeriO cans will observe Veterans Day to honor those Americans who’ve served in the
military, particularly those who’ve served during wartime. Roque Riojas is among those they’ll honor. born on Aug. 22, 1922, and proud of his Mexican heritage, Riojas served during World War II when he was 20 years old. “I was drafted and ready to go,” Riojas said. For Riojas, wartime produced unpleasant memories. He recalls fighting to stay alive and watching after his battle buddies. He recalls staying in combat for more than 600 days. He recalls that he and his buddies couldn’t take a shower during wintertime.
