a Familia Dean-Lozoya Foundation presented a check donating $10,000 to J.C. Harmon High School in Kansas City, Kansas, during a small ceremony Oct. 14 in the high school’s cafeteria. The funds will provide J.C. Harmon’s families with a resource room equipped with technology and access to community resources. The money also will offer English classes for non-English speaking parents. “The money is going to be used to buy different types of literature to help parents assist their students to be on a college and career pathway,” said Stephen Linkous, Kansas City, Kansas, Public Schools (KCKPS) chief of staff. he Samuel U. Rodgers Cabot Westside Clinic in Kansas City, Missouri’s Westside area has a long history of serving minority communities, including the Hispanic community. During the early 1900s, as Mexican immigrants arrived in Kansas City, they started looking for jobs and settled in the Westside. “However, they did get met with a lot of discrimination and poverty, and (they) were just lacking access to basic social services when it … (came) to health care,” Dr. Catricia Tilford, leading pediatrician at Cabot, said. Cabot was founded in 1906, starting as a four-bed ward for impoverished children. The increasing immigrant population led to the city’s health department to ask Cabot if the facility could
